Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder of the muscular movement in the digestive tract. Physicians are unsure of what causes it but believe there is a problem with the signals between the brain and intestines. Symptoms may include belly pain, bloating, cramping, diarrhea and constipation. IBS is a long-term condition, but symptoms can be controlled with diet and lifestyle. The primary way to manage symptoms is to replace trigger foods with healthy alternatives that promote smooth, painless digestion. There is no better way to initiate control on a daily basis than to eat a healthy IBS breakfast.

Choose the Best Cereal for IBS

When choosing the best cereal for IBS, look for high-fiber content. High levels of fiber in the diet keep the colon slightly distended, which may help to reduce or alleviate muscular spasms that cause IBS pain. Whole-grain breads and cereals, as well as fresh fruit, are excellent high-fiber foods to start the day. High-fiber foods supply at least 20 percent of the recommended daily allowance (RDA). According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the RDA for fiber, based on a 2,000-calorie diet, is 25 grams. Whole-grain bread selections may include toast, bagels or bran muffins. Examples of popular high-fiber dry cereals are All-Bran, Fiber One and Grape Nuts. Fruit selections with high-fiber content include raspberries, pears, apples, strawberries, bananas and oranges.

Select Dairy Products Carefully

Dairy products, such as butter, cheese, milk and yogurt, are an important part of a healthy breakfast due to their protein and calcium content in particular. However, dairy products are common triggers of IBS symptoms. While some form of dairy should be consumed each day, sufferers should choose a single type to enjoy with their IBS breakfast. If milk is eaten with dry cereal, for example, peanut butter, honey or jelly should be eaten with a side of toast, rather than butter or cheese.

Avoid Fried Foods

Fried foods are high in fat and are particularly problematic for IBS sufferers. Starting the day with fried foods is a bad idea, as the digestive system gets bogged down and irritated right away. Therefore, eating sausage, bacon or ham as a source of protein for breakfast is not a wise choice for your IBS breakfast. Spread peanut butter on a whole-grain mini-bagel, English muffin or piece of toast instead. Egg whites, oatmeal or cereal bars are better choices as well.

Limit High-Sugar Foods

According to a study published in 2014 by Gastroenterology and Hepatology, research suggests that IBS sufferers often have a sugar intolerance. IBS sufferers frequently have difficulty digesting high-sugar foods as well as sugary beverages. Given this, make sure to choose high-fiber, high-protein breakfast cereals rather than sugary ones, such as Frosted Flakes, Corn Pops, Froot Loops or Apple Jacks. Be careful not to add multiple teaspoons of table sugar to your bowl of cereal or oatmeal either. Replace soda or flavored fruit juice with water or 100 percent fruit juice for breakfast to complete a healthy start to your day.

IBS diet: what to eat

It’s unclear why IBS affects some people and not others. While symptoms vary, they usually include diarrhoea, constipation and bloating. Common triggers include stress or disruption to the good bacteria in the gut.

Some sufferers can manage their symptoms with diet and lifestyle changes, which include eating at regular times and cutting back on coffee, tea and alcohol. It’s also a good idea to replace roughage like bran with gentler, soluble forms of fibre found in bananas, apples, pears, oats, rye and barley. This may help to alleviate bloating and regulate bowel movements.

An example of a beneficial breakfast for IBS sufferers is our Apple & linseed porridge, which may help ease symptoms thanks to some key ingredients.

Discover our full range of health benefit guides and find lots more information on digestive health recipes and tips as well as the low FODMAP diet.

As well as oats and apples, this porridge uses linseeds (also known as flaxseeds), which is another good source of soluble fibre. It’s worth grinding linseeds before using (or buy the ready-ground variety) as this helps your body to absorb all their great properties, including omega-3 fatty acids, which can help to soothe irritation. Linseed also supplies the types of fibre that your good gut bacteria thrive on; other foods with these prebiotic properties include ground almonds and chia seeds. This porridge is finished with a generous dollop of probiotic yogurt, also useful for keeping the gut healthy. Eating naturally fermented foods like yogurt, which contain ‘live’ cultures, may help restore healthy levels of gut bacteria.

Remember, you should make dietary changes gradually so you don’t aggravate an already sensitive system, and it’s important to visit your GP to rule out any other health issues as soon as you experience a change to your bowel habits.

Before you try this recipe…

Our cookery team, supported by our nutritionist, devised this recipe after discussing this issue with a GP. Unfortunately, IBS is a condition where one dietary approach does not suit all sufferers. That’s because symptoms vary considerably and because there is no definitive cause. Our aim was to devise a single recipe that would meet the most common needs as highlighted by our discussions with the GP. With this in mind some IBS sufferers certainly achieve relief from the inclusion of the gentler soluble fibre like the pectin found in some fruit like apples, the fibre in oats and ground seeds – these sufferers find that including soluble fibre helps regulate their system. Other sufferers are advised to follow a low-fibre diet for a period of time, as this can calm an overactive digestive system and alleviate some of their symptoms.

The low FODMAP approach is an interesting development and appears to be proving successful but it can be confusing and the dietary changes really require personalised professional advice. Many IBS sufferers find that including probiotic or live yogurt can help relieve symptoms potentially by improving the health of the gut environment – more studies are needed to identify the specific species and strains of bacteria which may lead to these benefits. If in doubt, always talk to your GP.

The Best IBS Diet To Prevent Flare-Ups

Living with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is frustrating, especially when it comes to mealtimes. You often can’t enjoy your meal because you’re so worried about whether your food choices will trigger an episode of bloating, gas, cramps, diarrhea or constipation.

You’re not alone. An estimated 10 to 15 percent of people have IBS, which is twice as common in women, and it often goes undiagnosed. (Learn the 5 signs you may have IBS.) While the exact cause unknown, it’s clear that multiple factors – including the foods you eat – play a role in exacerbating symptoms.

Be Your Own Nutrition Detective

Get to know your body. Record your food intake and symptoms for one week. Record when and how much you ate and drank. At the same time, record your gastrointestinal symptoms. Noting the onset, reaction and severity of the symptoms will you identify the “trigger” food that may not be kind to your gut.

Food And IBS

Everybody responds to foods differently. A food that triggers an IBS attack in you may not be an issue for someone else. Figuring out what’s “safe” for you to eat and what to avoid is often a case of trial and error.

But there are some foods that are easier to digest – and others that are more likely to aggravate an already sensitive digestive system.

IBS Diet: Kitchen Staples

Stock your pantry and fridge with foods that are gentle on your system. You can use these foundational foods to create satisfying and healthy meals and snacks without causing stomach upset:

  • Poultry and fish: High-fat foods, including red meat, overstimulate the gut. Instead, opt for chicken, turkey or fish.
  • Cooked vegetables: Cooked vegetables are easier to digest than raw ones. However, you may still want to avoid cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts, which can cause bloating and gas even when cooked.
  • Certain grains: Gluten-free oatmeal and brown rice are usually well-received by people with IBS and provide soluble fiber, which helps regulate bowel movements.
  • Low-fat yogurt: Some people with IBS have worse symptoms after eating dairy foods. But if you aren’t sensitive to the lactose in dairy, low-fat yogurt is filling and contains probiotics. Preliminary research suggests that these good bacteria may even help reduce IBS symptoms.
  • Egg whites: Eggs are an excellent source of protein and don’t typically provoke IBS attacks. If fat is a trigger for you, use just the egg whites.

Foods To Avoid

These foods commonly spark a cascade of symptoms for people with irritable bowel syndrome:

  • High-fiber products, found in cereals, grains, pastas and processed foods
  • Gas-producing foods, like beans, lentils, carbonated beverages and cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower
  • Gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and many processed foods
  • Fried foods, which often cause gas and bloating especially in those who have reflux
  • Coffee, which stimulates bowel activity in some who have reflux symptoms
  • Spicy foods, which can worsen IBS symptoms for some people who contend with reflux

Low FODMAP Diet For IBS

Some people who have irritable bowel syndrome symptoms still do not feel well despite trying the basic ideas above. Luckily, researchers in last few years have determined a more specific diet therapy that has been helpful to those who require a more rigorous approach to get the response desired. Because of the complexity, it is best to enlist the help of a registered dietitian to implement the FODMAP diet.

Doctors frequently recommend the low FODMAP diet for those with IBS. FODMAP stands for fermentable oligo-saccharides, di-saccharides, mono-saccharides and polyols, specific types of carbohydrates that are more difficult for some people to absorb.

FODMAPs may lead to increased gas formation. Research indicates that following a low FODMAP diet reduces abdominal pain and bloating for the majority of people with IBS.

The Low FODMAP Diet:

Eliminates foods, including some fruits and vegetables, dairy, beans, wheat and a variety of condiments and other foods.

Is a temporary solution until gut bacteria is under control, and you can tolerate these foods again.

Works best with nutritional counseling.

A dietitian can create a low FODMAP meal plan that provides all the necessary nutrients and is personalized to your food preferences.

Find Your IBS Treatment Solution

IBS treatment focuses on addressing symptoms. In addition to diet changes, other lifestyle factors like stress and sleep quality can also affect the disorder. The good news is that you can often manage IBS through lifestyle adjustments.

A gastroenterologist, a doctor that specializes in the digestive system, can help determine what factors have the most significant impact on your gut health and the treatments that will help you feel better. Improve your quality of life by finding a doctor today.

I have irritable bowel syndrome.

What can I eat to reduce the pain?

The question: What foods should I avoid if I have irritable bowel syndrome?

The answer: Altering your diet can definitely help reduce or eliminate the uncomfortable, and sometimes painful, symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Which foods you should avoid – and which ones you should eat more of – depends on the IBS symptoms you are experiencing.

Doctors refer to IBS as a functional disorder, since there is no sign of any abnormality when a person’s large bowel, or colon, is examined. It’s thought that symptoms result from overly reactive and/or extra sensitive nerves that control muscles in the bowel.

Story continues below advertisement

Most people with IBS experience either diarrhea (IBS-D or diarrhea-predominant) or constipation (IBS-C or constipation-predominant), but some people alternate between diarrhea and constipation (IBS-A). People with IBS may also experience abdominal pain and bloating.

Start by assessing your diet for certain foods that set off or worsen your symptoms. I advise my clients to keep a food and symptom journal to determine if any foods bother them. In many people with IBS-D, fatty foods, caffeine, chocolate, alcoholic beverages, carbonated beverages, sorbitol (an artificial sweetener used in sugar-free gum and diet candies) and fructose (the simple sugar found in honey and many fruits) can worsen cramping and diarrhea.

People with IBS-C should include good sources of insoluble fibre such as wheat bran, 100 per cent bran cereal, whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables in their daily diet to promote regular laxation. If you have IBS-D, it’s best to consume more soluble fibre – the type in oat bran, barley, psyllium husks, citrus fruit and legumes – which helps bind intestinal contents.

Increase your fibre intake gradually over a period of two to three weeks. Drink at least 9 cups (2.2 litres) of water each day. Fibre needs to absorb water so it can function effectively in the body.

Another dietary approach to treat IBS is to follow the FODMAP diet for one to two weeks. FODMAP stands for the names of five fermentable carbohydrates found in foods that have been shown to increase abdominal pain, gas and bloating. Foods high in FODMAPS include certain fruits and vegetables, rye, wheat, milk, yogurt, legumes, fructose and sugar alcohols.

If high FODMAP foods cause symptoms, eliminating them can cause relief within days. After the elimination period, foods are added back gradually, one at a time, to determine the foods you can tolerate with the goal of finding the most varied diet possible. I strongly recommend people work with a registered dietitian knowledgeable about the FODMAP approach.

Taking a supplement of probiotics, or so-called “friendly” bacteria, may also help treat IBS. It’s been suggested that people with IBS don’t have enough friendly bacteria in their digestive tract. A few studies, but not all, suggest that consuming foods or supplements that contain Bifidobacteria reduces abdominal pain and bloating in people with IBS.

Finally, don’t skip meals. Eat well-balanced meals at the same time each day to promote regular bowel function. People with IBS-D may find eating smaller meals more frequently reduces symptoms.

What to eat in a day if you have irritable bowel syndrome

Get your gut in order for good.

Despite affecting so many Australians (five million), IBS is often misunderstood and mismanaged. For the patients I work with, restoring balance in their digestive system is the first step. It’s important to consider all of the things which will help or hinder your gut, including introducing a clinically proven probiotic into your daily routine with the help of a healthcare professional and cutting down on foods which can aggravate symptoms.

Probiotics are increasingly recognised for their role in overall health and wellbeing and in particular for maintaining a healthy digestive system. The body needs good bacteria (“probiotics”) for a number of things, however, these bacteria are often fragile. Common lifestyle issues such as diet, changes in routine, travel and stress can disrupt the natural balance of intestinal flora. For those suffering with IBS, symptoms can often be triggered by many of these factors, making the delicate balance of bacteria key to managing the illness.

Probiotics, which contain Bifantis® (Bifidobacterium infantis 35624) have been clinically proven to help relieve symptoms of IBS, including abdominal pain, gas and bloating. There’s no right or wrong time of day to take probiotics, but I recommend making it the same time every day – so that it becomes part of your routine. For some, that is first thing in the morning, before breakfast; for others it is last thing at night.

When it comes to choosing foods to help with managing IBS symptoms, it’s easy to focus on everything you can’t have. However, there are still so many delicious options to include. Here’s my guide for the best gut-friendly foods to eat to beat IBS symptoms.

Breakfast:

Lean protein and low GI carbs are still on the menu, and important for staying satisfied over the day. Scrambled eggs with zucchini and quinoa, or rolled oats with pumpkin seeds, berries and goat yoghurt are both winners.

Lunch:

Getting plenty of veggies in is still important at lunch, just as it is for people without IBS. This chicken salad with blueberry and walnut dressing, or smoked salmon salad with orange and rocket are both delicious, easy choices.

Dinner:

Consuming enough low GI carbohydrate with adequate prebiotic fibre is important, but it is also important to not overdo it. This Spinach and Basil Rice is a great choice (and a fun way to get the kids to eat more veggies) served with grilled meat and salad, or this Turmeric and Ginger Salmon is a great, anti-inflammatory option (and actually works really well with the rice dish!).

Snacks:

Some people find eating less often helps with managing their IBS, however if snacking is part of your routine, some great options to include are:

  • Raw walnuts, macadamias, pecans and brazil nuts
  • Carrot and cucumber sticks
  • Olives
  • Coconut yoghurt/Goat yoghurt
  • Low FODMAP fruit, such as banana, berries or pineapple
  • Boiled eggs
  • Rice cakes with natural peanut butter

7 tips to help improve your gut health:

  • Restore digestive order: Taking a probiotic supplement regularly can help to restore the natural balance of bacteria in the digestive system.
  • Be sure to drink lots of water: Do this every day, as staying adequately hydrated helps your body systems function more effectively.
  • Stay active: By participating in regular exercise, you will improve blood flow through the body and help with digestion in the gut. Embracing mindfulness and meditation practises, such as yoga, will allow you to alleviate stress and relax both the body and mind.
  • Eat smart: Fermented foods are great for helping to maintain a healthy gut (though often high FODMAP, small quantities are likely to be beneficial). Research shows that following a diet low in FODMAPs can help relieve symptoms of IBS. Avoid the types of carbohydrates that act as a food source to bacteria that live in the large intestine including onions and garlic. When they are not absorbed properly, they are fermented, producing gas and additional symptoms of IBS, including bloating, pain and constipation. By eliminating high FODMAP foods in your diet, you will alleviate the strain on your digestive system and minimise the chances of developing IBS.
  • Eat slowly: Really take the time to eat your food. Take the time to smell and see the food before you eat, and think about the different flavours and the textures. Most people don’t know this but digestion begins before you actually put food in your mouth! Just the smell alone can trigger the digestive enzymes to start working in the mouth.
  • Try disconnecting from devices, leaving your desk at lunchtime and eating more mindfully to help you feel more satisfied – you will enjoy the food more too!
  • Get plenty of sleep: Not getting enough sleep stimulates the production of certain hormones in the body, sending messages to the brain that you are hungry, even if you don’t actually need more food. As well as making you feeling sluggish and unable to concentrate, it causes a lower stress-tolerance level, making you more susceptible to IBS symptoms.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Recipes, Indian Diet

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a disorder of the colon, characterized by irregular bowel patterns. The exact cause of IBS is unknown, but the major symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating accompanied with bouts of diarrhea and/or constipation. These symptoms tend to come and go.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Recipes, Diet

Managing your diet well and modifying your lifestyle is the best way to control IBS. Fiber is the buzz word for those affected with IBS, but it can be confusing at times. The fiber intake needs to be adjusted according to personal symptoms. The best is to use a diary with clear notifications of symptoms that triggered due to intake of a particular food.

Palak, Kale and Apple Juice

In general Insoluble Fiber helps to relieve diarrhea while Soluble Fiber helps to relieve constipation. But remember to not go overboard on fiber.

Limit the intake of fruits to 2 to 3 per day and veggies to 3 to 4 servings per day.

Oats Roti, Ibs Recipe

Try and increase your daily fiber intake gradually, because any sudden increase may make the symptoms worse. Rely on whole grains like oats, barley, quinoa.

You can try simple healthy variants like Oats Roti and Mini Quinoa Pancake.

Foods to limit consumption of with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Since constipation and diarrhea occur alternately to most people, certain general food guidelines to be followed unmistakably are as follows:

10 Points you must follow with IBS condition

1. Avoid processed foods like maida, semolina and rye.

2. Keep a check on the amount of wheat intake. It may not suit most people.

3. Cut down on fat intake. Avoid the deep fried goodies.

4. Keep a check on the consumption of dairy products. Milk may suit at times and may not sometimes. Avoid the full fat milk and opt for low fat milk instead. Curds are a better option amongst dairy products. You can try almond milk instead. Also restrict the use of butter, mayonnaise and cheese.

Almond Milk, Homemade Pure Almond Milk

5. Avoid biscuits, cakes, sweets, confectionaries, mithais, pastries etc.

6. Drink plenty of fluids. If suffering from diarrhea, the lost water needs to be replenished and if suffering from constipation, water will help to bind stools and help in its elimination.

7. Avoid fruit juices as they are devoid of fiber and are high doses of fructose. 8. Limiting honey might also be helpful as it is high in fructose too.

9. Avoid sugar substitute or artificial sweeteners as they contain some amounts of sorbitol which can cause bloating and diarrhea.

10. Prefer to avoid tea, coffee, aerated drinks, alcohol, MSG, vinegar, chocolate, chocolate powder and chewing gum.

Here are some absolutely reliable recipes for IBS.

Fiber, Prunes, and More Good Foods

If you have IBS-C, you may be concerned about what to eat. You need to keep a balanced diet while you avoid foods that trigger symptoms for you. Try a few simple tips to make your diet work better for you.

Keep a Symptom Journal

An IBS symptom journal can help you and your doctor figure out which foods may trigger your symptoms. Make a habit of writing down any symptoms you might have, along with what and how much you ate beforehand. If you see a pattern with certain foods, see if you feel better when you don’t eat them, or cut back on how much of them you eat. But cut foods one at a time. If you cut several foods at the same time, you won’t know for sure which one may be causing your symptoms.

Build a Diet That Works for You

These tips can help you come up with your own healthy new meal plan:

Limit highly refined foods: These foods lose some important nutrients in the process of making them. They fill you up but don’t give you the fiber, vitamins, and minerals you need. Think twice before you eat:

  • White bread
  • White rice
  • Chips
  • Cookies and pastries

Boost fiber: Fiber makes stool easier to pass. It helps many people with IBS-C symptoms, but not everyone.

Too little roughage in your diet can make it hard to have a bowel movement. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends 25 grams of fiber for women and 38 grams for men each day. People over age 50 may need a little less fiber (21 grams for women and 30 grams for men).

Here are some foods that can help you get enough fiber:

Whole-grains: First, make sure you aren’t gluten sensitive. If unsure, stop eating gluten for 3 weeks and use alternatives instead (such as rice, quinoa, potato, and flax). You can get 4 grams of fiber easily with a serving of whole grains, such as

  • 1 to 2 slices of whole-grain bread (depending on the brand)
  • 1 cup of brown rice
  • 9 Reduced-Fat Triscuits

Cereals: Some contain 5 or more grams of fiber per serving. Here are a few examples:

  • 1 cup of Raisin Bran = 8 grams of fiber
  • 1/2 cup of All-Bran = 10 grams
  • 1 cup of Shredded Wheat Spoonsize = 5 grams
  • 1 1/4 cups of cooked oatmeal = 5 grams

Fruits: Fruits are great choices because they include both fiber and extra water. Here are a few examples:

  • 1 apple = 3.7 grams of fiber
  • 1 banana = 2.8 grams
  • 1 pear = 4 grams
  • 1 cup of strawberries = 3.8 grams

Vegetables: Vegetables offer loads of fiber plus antioxidants that can help fight heart disease and some types of cancer. Here are a few examples:

  • 1 cup carrot slices, cooked = 5 grams of fiber
  • 1 cup cooked broccoli = 4.5 grams of fiber
  • 1 sweet potato = 4 grams of fiber
  • 1 cup cauliflower, cooked = 3 grams of fiber
  • 2 cups raw spinach leaves = 3 grams of fiber

Beans: Just 1/2 cup can get you to 6 or more grams of fiber in a snap. Here are a few examples:

  • 1/2 cup of Ortega Fat-Free Refried Beans = 9 grams of fiber
  • 1/2 cup of canned kidney beans = 6 grams
  • 1/2 cup of S&W Chili Beans Zesty Sauce = 6 grams

Although meeting your daily fiber needs is best accomplished by eating the right foods, taking a fiber supplement can also help. Examples include psyllium, methylcellulose, wheat dextrin, and calcium polycarbophil.

Don’t shock your system with a sudden increase of fiber, though. Your body will need time to get used to it, so add a little each day. Too much at once may make you feel worse.

Try increasing your intake by 2 grams to 3 grams per day. For example, if you normally eat 5 grams of fiber, try getting 8 grams on your first day and go from there. If it helps, stick with it until you’re getting as much as experts recommend.

Try prunes and liquids: Some fruity foods that are higher in the sugar sorbitol, such as prunes, dried plums (another name for prunes), and prune juice, can loosen bowels. But again, too much can cause gas, bloating, cramping, and diarrhea.

Add ground flaxseed to your diet: Some people find it helps ease their IBS-C symptoms. You can sprinkle it on salads, cooked vegetables, and cereals. Ground flaxseed also provides fiber, about 4 grams per 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons (depending on the brand).

Stay well-hydrated: Drink plenty of liquids like water and juice. But coffee, carbonated drinks, and alcohol can dehydrate you and make your IBS-C symptoms worse.

Keep some carbs: Be mindful of low-carb diets. A high-protein and low-carb diet can cause constipation. You need protein, but don’t cut out the carbs from fruits and vegetables. They’ll help keep your digestive tract working.

Change the Way You Eat

Some simple changes may help you gain control of your IBS-C symptoms.

Eat smaller meals more often. Some people with IBS-C find it helps to eat five or six smaller meals throughout the day, rather than three large ones.

Don’t skip breakfast. This meal, more than any other, can get your colon active.

Dine at leisure. Too often we eat on the run or at our desks. But eating in a rush can trigger IBS-C symptoms. Try not to do other things while you’re eating, such as drive or sit in front of the computer. The stress of multitasking may trigger symptoms, and if you eat quickly and swallow air, it can cause gas or bloating.

Relax and enjoy your food.

On May 26, 2018, within the framework of SPIEF 2018, a traditional Saturday IT breakfast was organized by RUSSOFT, RAEC, RVC. This year’s event was dedicated to the topic of digital business transformation.

During the IT breakfast, participants and experts discussed what digital transformation is, how it is implemented at the business and government level, what is the role of the IT industry in the digital transformation of the economy in Russia and in the world, what are the obstacles to digital transformation of the economy in Russia and the ways to overcome them, what is the practice, and what are the prospects for international cooperation. The participants also answered the question of to what extent the Russian IT industry and the Russian state are ready to interact with the common goal of widespread implementation of digital transformation technologies in our country.

First of all, the organizers of the IT breakfast noted the growth of digitalization in the Russian and global markets, as well as the contribution of digital transformation at the level of business and government to the country’s economy.

“Currently, there is a successful practice of digital transformation in many areas – digitalization has ceased to be an abstract concept and has become a reality. The Russian IT industry today is one of the active players in the global digital transformation market. At the end of 2017, RAEC estimates the contribution of the digital economy to 2.42% of Russia’s GDP. The influence of Internet markets on the economy is growing at 10% per year. Today we will discuss digital transformation – international experience, best Russian practices, the role of state support for digital transformation – in areas that are tightly integrated into the life of modern society, ”said Sergei Plugotarenko, Director of RAEC , to the participants of the IT breakfast.

“I can say that last year has significantly changed the situation on the market for Russian companies’ software sales abroad. In 2017, we saw a 16% increase in overseas sales to $ 8.5 billion, with sales expected to be $ 10 billion in 2018, up 15%. Digital transformation, along with security systems, is one of the main areas of activity of Russian service and product IT companies in the world market ”, – noted the President of RUSSOFT Valentin Makarov .

General Director of RVC Alexander Povalko noted that digital transformation is being carried out in all directions – from the creation of educational programs to the support of IT developers: “We have an understandable financing tool – venture funds created by RVC that work with IT solutions. Within the framework of NTI, we support the formation of centers of competence on the basis of universities and scientific organizations, whose task is to create consortia for the development of end-to-end technologies corresponding to NTI. It will bring organizations and people together to overcome the technological barriers of the digital economy. A preliminary selection scheme for leading technical centers developing new solutions has been formed. These do not have to be government agencies, we rely on commercial companies. Starting next year, we will start supporting them. ”

The first topic of discussion was the issue of digital transformation within large companies. The speakers noted the importance of exchange of experience and cooperation with competent leaders of the IT industry to implement the necessary changes.

Vice President for Information Technology of PJSC Rostelecom Kirill Menshov said that Rostelecom is currently in the process of establishing itself as a carrier of an ecosystem in the field of digital transformations. “Rostelecom has recently rethought its position in the Market, having formed a new strategy in which we are a digital partner of society and the state. We are a technology infrastructure provider for companies with industry expertise. Our further development – strategic alliances, the organization of joint ventures to create common solutions – will radically change our life with you, ”he concluded.

“It’s great to see many companies embark on their own digital transformation. Here it is interesting to see the differences in approaches between foreign and Russian companies. Russian companies do not have sufficient competencies that digital transformation requires, since business processes and basic approaches to activities are changing in parallel. The combination of these factors creates a demand for rethinking work at all levels. That is why it is necessary to seek the help of companies with extensive foreign experience in the field of digital transformation, including in terms of project management. In addition, at the level of regulators, it is necessary to improve the work with reference documentation and the regulatory framework, ”said General Director of Reksoft Alexander Egorov .

General Director of IBS Svetlana Balanova noted the importance of effective organization of processes for digital transformation. “The IT business market has changed a lot. If earlier system integrators followed a vendor who was a “window to the market”, today it will be difficult for system integrators who do not undergo transformation to survive in the market. There will simply be no non-digital businesses in the world. It is necessary to have strategic partners in the form of IT companies, for which the main business is understanding and tracking all digital trends. Outsourcing companies have vast experience in transferring transformations across industries, and also allow the customer to focus as much as possible on their own business, ”she emphasized

Head of Internet of Things Security at Kaspersky Lab JSC Andrey Tikhonov spoke about the “formula for success” of digital transformation.“Today, IT security issues are receiving significant attention all over the world, as the security of the“ Internet of things ”is entering a new stage, becoming the subject of legislative regulation around the world, which in fact equates the IoT with a critical infrastructure. Security by design is becoming a leading requirement. Practices that used to be the prerogative of space and the military are now entering the infrastructure of the Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems that surrounds us. With the advent of the Internet of Things, the concept of security has become more complex, including a wide range of risks. At the moment, all countries are looking at technological sovereignty in terms of trust, while international cooperation in the direction of the security of the “industrial Internet” and “Internet of things” is expanding. The formula for success is a combination of Russian technologies and international standards, ”he noted.

Experts shared their experience in the development of digital transformation in the global and Russian markets. They also discussed whether the “Russianness” of IT companies is an advantage when entering global markets.

“Digital transformation for us is the need for an independent transformation in the direction of working with data. Data usage is a key driver of transformation. We draw on the expertise of large digital companies around the world. We are actively investing in Russia. We are engaged in artificial intelligence technologies, blockchain, we develop software and we do it in Nizhny Novgorod. Similar programs can be extended to other regions of Russia. We want to efficiently use the data we receive, so transformation is critical for us, ”said Shannon Powlin , Vice President, Director of New Technologies for Global Markets, Intel Corporation.

COO of Microsoft Rus LLC Pavel Ershov spoke about the main directions of digital transformation. “It was noticed that digital transformation is so active that in a few years there will be no businesses left that would not have gone through this process. When we talk about digital transformation, we distinguish four main areas: changing processes, changing the way they interact with customers, transforming products, and how to ensure that customers’ employees can take advantage of this process. Our research has shown that, unfortunately, only 17% of Russian companies are at a sufficient level of development of digital culture. Essentially, digital culture is about making the most of technology. It is necessary to train employees not only in the IT sector, to tell them about digital transformation, ”he explained.

“I would like to highlight the changing role of vendors and systems integrators as these concepts are blurring. In the era of digitalization, change permeates all departments of companies. We must support several key areas of digitalization: the development of civrophization standards based on open data, participation in them and the joint creation of technologies useful for use within the framework of these standards “, – noted Kirill Korniliev , Vice President of Sales, Head of Industrial Solutions IBM in Central and Eastern Europe.

“The digital economy is impossible without human interaction with machines. The emergence of a digital personality will be impossible without means of reliable identification of a person based on biometric data. Increased efficiency also entails new challenges and threats. There are serious biometric developments in the field of security in Russia – this is a significant step towards the formation of the digital economy, ”said Dmitry Dyrmovsky , CEO, member of the board of directors of MDG .

“If we hope that we can acquire all the necessary digitalization technologies abroad and can count on their continued support, then we will be at significant risk of sanctions. On the other hand, we will not be able to create all new technologies solely on our own. It just wouldn’t be possible. But in the process of gaining experience in creating digitalization technologies, we came up with several ideas. The first way is the creation of open source products by joint efforts, the second is a deep technology transfer. By creating in this way sanction-resistant products in all technological segments, it is possible to successfully engage in digital transformation, ”said Vladimir Rubanov, Managing Director of Rosplatforma LLC .

General Director of SPB TV Kirill Filippov shared his experience of interaction with the Chinese market: “Our experience of working with China is quite successful, although they and we are working under sanctions. A large number of Chinese partners want to enter the Russian market. Cooperation between Russia and China in the field of IT is very promising, extremely useful and effective. ”

General Director of ABBYY Russia Dmitry Shushkin answered the question of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation are combined.“Not only Russia, but the whole world is sick of digital transformation, as this is a way to do more and more efficiently. Artificial intelligence is a tool for achieving progressive goals. We see, for example, that with the help of these technologies, banks can issue loans in a robotic manner, chat bots are used everywhere, procurement operations are automated, and much more. There is such a trend as the automation of routine business processes by robots due to the fact that people must focus on intelligent tasks. As part of digital transformation, the use of such technologies allows companies to achieve competitive advantages. Russian companies need to share experience in the field of digital transformation in order to achieve high results. ”

The next topic for discussion was the creation of country alliances of states to develop joint solutions against the background of tougher sanctions and trade wars, in order to achieve group sovereignty by increasing competitiveness. This idea was emphasized by Valentin Makarov, speaking about the strategic partnership agreement concluded within the framework of the SPIEF between LINAGORA (France) and AstroSoft (Russia) IT companies

Co-founder and CEO of LINAGORA Alexander Zapolsky noted that “LINAGORA develops open source software. We develop a large number of software products, we have a successful history of working with governments and large organizations in different regions of the world. Now there is active competition between the American and Chinese IT giants. But there is also a third way associated with cooperation in the development of open source software. France and Russia can go together along this third digital path associated with digital sovereignty. That is why we have signed a document on strategic partnership with the Russian company Astrosoft. “

Founder of AstroSoft LLC Pavel Vasiliev added that “achieving technological independence is possible in cooperation, where everyone brings their strongest qualities – this is how synergy is achieved. The strong point of AstroSoft is, first of all, mathematics as the basis for a deep understanding of programmable processes. Today, more and more specialists are needed who are able to solve problems with a high level of uncertainty of input parameters and manage multi-agent environments (= IoT), that is, the business itself requires a solid mathematical foundation. That is why Russian mathematicians are more competitive and in demand than ever, and mathematics is a new global trend. The signing of a strategic partnership agreement with France is the groundwork for the implementation of our ambitious plans in the field of digital development “

Participants of the IT breakfast also discussed the topic of the intersection of digital transformation and the Internet.

Is the Internet a Prerequisite for Transformation? This question was answered by David Konrad , Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of ICANN : “When it comes to the Internet and digital transformation, it’s all tied to the concept of networks. For digital transformation to be successful, you need to take advantage of the network effect. It is necessary to use the environment in which this transformation takes place. This ecosystem must have certain properties associated with transformation. This presents great prospects. However, there are problems that need to be solved – these are security, political influence on the functioning. ”

Leading Information and Communication Technology Specialist, World Bank Regional Coordinator Carlo Rossotto emphasized that digital transformation is the key to competitiveness. Countries need to create policies that can quickly adapt to technological change, including the digital economy. “Our organization is closely following the development of the digital economy and digital transformation processes. The World Bank is seizing the power of digital transformation, and we understand the risks that can arise from doing so. We must work with initiative. It is necessary to develop tools and approaches to digitalization that could reduce or mitigate existing risks, all processes need to be improved and accelerated. It is necessary to continue developing the infrastructure for developing technologies, ”he said.

Executive Vice President for Government Relations, VimpelCom PJSC Mikhail Yakushev noted the need for effective government regulation of digital transformation processes. “Digital transformation cannot take place in isolation from all processes that take place at the global level. For effective transformation, first of all, you need knowledge, experience, skills in using complex technical systems. There is a need for training and self-study. All this also applies to government bodies. In our country, unfortunately, many decisions are made without taking into account the opinion of business professionals and without taking into account the necessary globalization of the developed solutions. What was said here testifies to the high level of expertise of Russian professionals and Russian business. The state should listen to us, ”he concluded.

Director of the Coordination Center for the National Domain of the Internet Andrey Vorobyov said that now a necessary condition for digital transformation is to involve not only the IT industry, but absolutely all categories of people in this process.“Digital transformation involves a huge number of people in the use of information technology from industries that were not previously associated with the Internet. This process requires a fundamental change in the regulatory process and taking into account the views of an increasing number of stakeholders. In addition, a wide involvement of young people, comprehensive educational programs and international exchange of experience are required, ”he said.

IRI Director Sergey Petrov explained the importance of involving government agencies in the digital transformation process: “For digital transformation, it is necessary to create a favorable environment – legislation, judicial, law enforcement and tax systems must support these changes.Market players and government officials are still speaking different languages. Our main task is to support an open interindustrial dialogue. The second direction on the road to digital transformation is the readiness of the public administration system for transformation. We need to single out guides, agents of digitalization – in this direction we are carrying out the Digital Region project ”.

Deputy General Director of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovations Pavel Gudkov spoke about financial instruments to support and develop the digital transformation process in Russia. “Today there was a lot of talk about digital transformation, but small businesses and startups were not mentioned. We believe that new ideas, new people and new companies must play a key role in digital transformation. The foundation that I represent has been providing grant support to startups for a quarter of a century. International cooperation is also an important aspect for our foundation. We have a number of agreements with a number of countries, including France. I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that the more projects in the field of digital transformation, the easier it will be to move in this direction, ”he said.

At the end of the event, the speakers discussed the possible consequences of digital transformation: massive job cuts, risks of transferring control to artificial intelligence, requirements for changing personnel training.

Vice President for Corporate Relations, Yandex Marina Amelina noted that “the scale of digital transformation is difficult to assess. In our country, different companies have all the technologies necessary for digital transformation and the entry of these companies to a new level. But the legislation is colossally late. Without this, nothing will happen – no transformation, no breakthrough. I propose next year, as part of the IT breakfast, to measure the level of real transformation – both digital and legislative. ”

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of BlaBlaCar Nicolas Brousson clarified that digital transformation is a major topic today. “I am often surprised at how we underestimate the speed of change. In just 10-12 years, we managed to create a network of trust so that people travel between cities more efficiently. We were able to bring tens of millions of people together, taught them to trust each other. Changes in technology are accelerating their growth, ”he said.

“All that needs to be done by both enterprises and the country to ensure digital transformations is to create comfortable conditions for people who keep pace with the times,” said Alexey Katkov, managing partner of AFK Sistema .

General Director of OJSC MGTS Andrey Ershov explained that “the main thing that needs to be changed in traditional businesses is people’s attitude to digital transformation. If they do not want to switch, use these technologies, we will not succeed. The DNA of innovation within the company is the absolute key to success. However, digital transformation requires a fundamental restructuring of the business, which does not always suit business owners. In addition, digital transformation is necessary so that we do not lose touch with our customers. ”

The President of the Board of Directors of The Saloniki International Fair Helexpo SA Anastasios Tzikas relied on the lack of cooperation between ICT Greece and Russia.“For us, ICT is a strategic direction due to the crisis. Now conditions are improving, and we need to ensure the development of the country. We have invested heavily in ICT in Greece. After two years of hard work, we see growth in this area. We create clusters and incubators for young companies. I think we need to look for ways of cooperation between Russian and Greek companies, ”he said.

Based on the results of the It breakfast, experts agreed that the main factors in the development of digital transformation in Russia are:

  • attention to the problems of digitalization on the part of the state at the maximum level, establishing a dialogue with public authorities;
  • the need for digital transformation companies to work with industry experts;
  • improving corporate culture for digital transformation within companies;
  • Mandatory work with users.Users must be able to consume the services that the company creates;
  • Emphasis on the fact that the digital economy is global.

Event history

For 7 years RAEC, RVC and RUSSOFT have been organizing and conducting the traditional Saturday “IT breakfast” within the framework of the SPIEF. The format is very popular and successful both among experts and in the media. Over the past years, within the framework of the IT breakfast, all problems of the development of online markets, software markets and IT segments were discussed: from personnel issues for the industry to the specifics of the entry of Russian IT companies into international markets.

The focus of 2018 is the successful experience of digital transformation in Russia and the world: opportunities for international cooperation

Business breakfast of information security | IBS DataFort

On June 19, 2018, IBS DataFort held an interactive business breakfast on information security for its key customers. The meeting was attended by technical and financial directors of 35 Russian companies.

The event began with a presentation by Ivan Guzev, Information Security Director at IBS DataFort. The expert said that over the past year, the number of information security events (hacker attacks, hacking, blocking, etc. ) has increased tenfold compared to the previous year.

The IBS DataFort experience shows that the problem, as a rule, is not in a large number of vulnerabilities in the infrastructure, but in the fact that traditional information security strategies become outdated too quickly against the background of an avalanche-like increase in traffic volumes and development of technologies – and, consequently, cyber threats. At the same time, the competencies of IT specialists are developing much more slowly. IBS DataFort sees a solution to the problem in the use of professional information security services provided on the basis of a secure certified cloud platform.

The audience quickly joined the dialogue and actively asked questions. They asked about the cloud infrastructure: how much it meets the reliability requirements, what is the speed of response to incidents, is it possible to use industrial solutions, etc.e. The second block of questions was devoted to how to build an effective team of IT specialists. They were answered by independent business analyst Alexander Paramonov, who also conducted a small interactive game that simulates the work of a project team. After that, the official part of the program ended and informal friendly communication of people united by similar interests began.

The distinguished guests highly appreciated the organization of the meeting and thanked IBS DataFort for their hospitality.Perhaps holding such business events will eventually develop into a good tradition and will serve to develop and strengthen business ties.

Ivan Guzev, Director of Information Security at IBS DataFort:

– IBS DataFort always starts communication with a new client with an information security audit. Our tests often reveal serious infrastructure vulnerabilities. That is why, now that remote access to office systems has become a part of almost any business, companies must ask themselves questions: is the corporate infrastructure securely protected? Will the existing means be able to withstand new vectors of threats? Are the funds involved in line with the current requirements and objectives of the business? Are staff able to provide and maintain the required level of protection? This is the only way we can develop a scenario for countering cyber threats and a plan for the development of information protection systems for a fairly long period.

Alexander Paramonov, independent business analyst at Personal Development Architect, Ph.D., MBA IT Management:

– Of course, the well-being of any modern company is directly related to the professionalism of IT specialists. Moreover, it’s not just about high-quality system support. Business continuity largely depends on how competently the interaction of IT department specialists with other divisions of the companies is.It is not enough to test knowledge of new technologies and methods of fighting cyber threats alone. It is necessary to identify the behavioral and communication skills of professionals. Today we have shown this with an example of a simulation game. It is not surprising that the team with strong communications showed the best results. Perhaps our guests, heads of IT departments, will want to assess the competencies of their employees and check how well they have developed teamwork skills and leadership abilities. And we, in turn, are ready to help with this.

A new advertising campaign of the federal trade network and PepsiCo in the style of “retrowave” with the participation of Buzova, Vaserman and Vorobyov

PepsiCo and Perekrestok launched an unusual advertising communication, which was developed for them by the team of the BBDO Moscow agency. She shows that the chain stores have breakfasts for every taste and urges: “Choose the right breakfast at Perekrestok!”

The campaign promotes a variety of breakfast products from the PepsiCo brand: J7, Village House, Miracle, Bio Max. Therefore, such different stars as Olga Buzova, Alexey Vorobyov and Anatoly Wasserman became the faces of the campaign.

Heroes appear before consumers in unusual ways – each of them has its own superpower, which they receive from their breakfast.Anatoly Wasserman, who prefers “Smart Breakfast”, overcame gravity and levitates in the lotus position. Olga Buzova with her “Cheerful breakfast” manages everything – from shopping to blogging, as if she had six hands. And Alexei Vorobyov deftly wields nunchucks (in fact, bottles of juice) thanks to the “Quick Breakfast”.

To make the communication brighter and more viral, to emphasize the self-irony of the heroes, the original retro-wave style of action movies from the 80s was used.

As part of the campaign, a video was released, POSM and UN materials were created and PR activities were launched. The main task of the video is to introduce the heroes to the consumers and acquaint them with the idea of the campaign.

“A tasty and healthy breakfast is the right start to the day. What do I want today? Quick breakfast, Quick breakfast, Smart breakfast . .. We offer our clients ready-made solutions for different tastes and lifestyles. The PepsiCo product line presented at Perekrestok is good in that it allows you to customize breakfast to suit any needs and mood, or to remain faithful to one “chosen” product, as the heroes of our campaign. It seems to us that this campaign is an excellent collaboration of different brands, which, in addition to direct benefits from the purchase, gives customers the opportunity to win valuable prizes “- notes Head of the Department for work with partners and suppliers of the Perekrestok retail chain Alena Khetagurova .
