Surgeon Putilova named 2 markers of the general blood test, which doctors look at first of all

  • Health

Clinical, or general, blood test is one of the most common types of research. It is almost always prescribed when a person comes to the doctor with some kind of complaint.

According to Ekaterina Putilova, head of the blood service at Pokrovskaya Hospital, clinical blood test gives doctors detailed information about the cellular composition of blood – about what cells are present there, in what quantity, what size and with what features.

Typically, the patient’s blood is taken from a vein for this test, so it gives more accurate results. Although sometimes they can take it from the finger.

“Pingle blood testing is relevant for, for example, rapid glucose tests, especially since patients have to do them often. As for clinical and biochemical analysis, of course, it is better to take blood from a vein,” said Ekaterina Putilova.

If a person is not particularly worried about anything, such a study is still worth having at least once a year – for prevention. And if there are any complaints about well-being, a clinical blood test is the first thing to start with and what the doctor will prescribe for you.

Ekaterina Putilova named two markers that doctors look at in a clinical blood test in the first place.

1. Erythrocytes

It is good when there is a normal concentration of hemoglobin in a clinical blood test with a normal number of red blood cells. If a patient has these indicators reduced, doctors talk about anemia – anemia. At the same time, the analysis can also suggest its cause.

  • If a person has small red blood cells with low hemoglobin content , most likely iron deficiency anemia.

  • If large erythrocytes with elevated hemoglobin content are detected , differential diagnosis will be carried out between B12-deficiency anemia, folate deficiency anemia and myelodysplastic syndrome (impaired function of hematopoietic stem cells).

There are a number of diseases that can be accompanied by blood loss and impaired absorption of vitamins and microelements, resulting in anemia. Among them is cancer. Precisely therefore it is better not to diagnose yourself – this can only be done by a doctor who, if necessary, will prescribe additional studies to determine the true cause of iron deficiency in the body.

2.

Leukocytes

Leukocytes can show an inflammatory response in the body, an immune response. These blood cells are able to recognize and remember foreign agents, produce antibodies, destroy bacteria and their own mutated and old cells.

Leukocytes include neutrophils, lymphocytes, basophils, eosinophils and monocytes.

“When studying the results of the analysis, the doctor evaluates not only the total number of leukocytes, but also the leukocyte formula — the ratio of different types of leukocytes, the presence of myelocytes, metamyelocytes, blast forms in the peripheral blood, which may indicate a severe pathology ,” adds Ekaterina Putilova .

If the leukocyte count is less than normal , this may indicate the development of a viral infection. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention not only to leukopenia – a decrease in the total number of leukocytes, but also to lymphocytosis – when, with a decrease in leukocytes, the number of lymphocytes (white cells), on the contrary, is higher than normal. This is a sign that the immune system is fighting the disease.

With an increase in the number of leukocytes – leukocytosis – inflammation of a bacterial nature is suspected.

“This is, of course, an oversimplified approach. In order to make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the right treatment, it is imperative to consult a doctor in such cases, ”concluded the specialist of the Pokrovskaya hospital.

Even if you feel absolutely healthy, this no reason to ignore a preventive appointment with a doctor

Share

Most of us do not like to go to the doctor: it takes a lot of time, and why, if nothing bothers. And this is the main mistake, because it is easier to prevent a disease than to treat it, spending a lot of money and nerves. You can go through a free medical examination at a state clinic or go to a private one – this is already to your taste and wallet. The main thing is to know which doctor to go to.

Therapist Alena Smirnova and general practitioner Elena Szymanski told about which specialists should be visited regularly and which tests should be taken.

Calendar youth, alas, does not mean the absence of sores. Even if there are no complaints, a simple medical check will help avoid problems in the future.

— The disease can be detected when the symptoms are still absent and there will be more chances for a cure, — explains the therapist Alena Smirnova. “Therefore, young people need to undergo a full examination every two to three years. After 40 years – annually.

— Ideally, find your own trusted therapist who will observe you year after year, know your individual characteristics, history, heredity, etc., — adds general practitioner Elena Shimansky. — It is extremely important that the doctor work on aspects of evidence-based medicine — such a doctor minimizes the number of unnecessary tests and appointments. After talking with you, clarifying complaints and examining the doctor will make you an examination program.

If you decide to start a checkup not with a therapist, but immediately with tests, below is a list of the most relevant studies.

Do not be intimidated by such a large list: in fact, you can donate everything in one day

Clinical blood test (every 2-3 years)

9 0008 Most common a research method that will tell about inflammation in the body and the state of the blood. According to its indicators, it is possible to determine the presence of infection, hidden internal bleeding, anemia, oncology and other diseases.

– Today, many people do not consume enough iron with food, some adhere to vegetarianism. A certain percentage of women have abundant monthly blood loss, which can be interpreted as normal (although it is not always the case), says Elena Shimansky. — If there are no complaints, a routine clinical blood test is not required, however, annual screening for the same hemoglobin indicator is advisable, since anemia significantly affects the quality of life and requires additional additional examination.

Urinalysis (every 2-3 years)

Helps to detect kidney or bladder dysfunction, as well as some systemic diseases – diabetes, hepatitis, intoxication after taking drugs or toxic substances, metabolic diseases.

Examination of glucose and cholesterol levels (every 3 years)

— Glucose is a simple carbohydrate (monosaccharide) that is the main source of energy, — Alena Smirnova explains. – By the level of glucose, a specialist will be able to diagnose a lot: diseases of the pancreas, liver, kidneys and adrenal cortex, hypothalamus, the development of diabetes mellitus, endocrine diseases, liver dysfunction, active inflammatory processes in the body.

By the degree of cholesterol concentration, one can determine the beginning of the development of such a serious pathology as vascular atherosclerosis, and assess the risks and prognosis of diseases of the cardiovascular system and others.

Fluorography (every 2 years)

Many serious, deadly diseases, including lung cancer and tuberculosis, can be secretive for a long time. Therefore, it is necessary to undergo a fluorographic examination.

Physician check-up (every 3 years)

If you have symptoms of the disease, then everything is clear – we make an appointment with a specialist. But many diseases are hidden with might and main and appear already with complications. A planned therapeutic examination will allow early identification of pathologies and taking measures.

Dental check-up (annual)

If you make a habit of visiting the dentist once a year, you will identify problems with your teeth in the early stages and get rid of them with minimal time and money.

For women: examination by a gynecologist with tests (annually) and control of ferritin levels (every 3-5 years)

— Most women have long learned a simple rule about a gynecologist: come to the chair once a year. Even if you are uncomfortable. Many infections are hidden, let alone oncology, the therapist warns.

Ferritin is a protein responsible for the storage and transport of iron in the body. The state of health is negatively affected by both the lack of ferritin (weakness, fatigue, headaches, etc.) and its excess, which indicates inflammation, the oncological process, and damage to internal organs.

ECG (after 35 years – annually)

Of course, the state of the whole organism depends on the work of the heart. Even if nothing bothers you, do an electrocardiogram every year. The study of the heart rhythm reveals a violation of the heart, a tendency to myocardial infarction and coronary heart disease.

Vitamin D test

Vitamin D is produced in the skin by exposure to sunlight, which we so often lack. Vitamin deficiency is accompanied by a decrease in appetite, irritability and a “tearful” state. You may have insomnia or interrupted sleep. Fatigue increases.

— Before starting prophylactic administration (up to 1500 IU/day), vitamin D blood levels are not required. Another question is if there are complaints: increased fatigue, a feeling of constant weakness, fatigue, a constant lack of strength, sleep problems, a tendency to depressive thoughts and hypochondria, says Elena Szymanski.

Tests for infections (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis)

These infections are primarily dangerous because they may not manifest themselves for a very long time. Doctors note that more and more often hepatitis and HIV are caught by ordinary people, and not marginalized people and drug addicts, as many people think. Just because you’re married or in a long-term relationship doesn’t mean you don’t need it.

Additional

If there are a lot of moles on the body, write the examination of a dermatologist in the check. An optional but desirable test for Helicobacter pylori (C13 breath test or stool test). Scientists have long proven the connection of this bacterium with peptic ulcer of the digestive tract. Therefore, the treatment of ulcers and other diseases of the digestive system may not be effective without the detection of Helicobacter pylori.

— The susceptibility to chronic diseases increases after 40 years, but the mentality remains the same: as long as there is no acute pain, I will not go to the doctor! – explains Alena Smirnova. – Whereas many serious diseases remind of themselves with acute pain too late.
