Calamine lotion has been used for centuries to relieve itchiness and discomfort from minor skin conditions, such as hives or mosquito bites.

It also has drying properties, and it’s often used to dry out rashes caused by poisonous plants.

For this reason, calamine lotion may be used as an acne treatment. It can dry out a pimple, eventually making it disappear. However, calamine lotion isn’t a primary treatment for acne.

Calamine lotion has shown some benefit in treating acne. However, it doesn’t deal with underlying causes of acne, and it can’t prevent breakouts from happening.

Using calamine lotion as spot treatment can help. Because calamine lotion has drying properties, it can help dry out pimples caused by excess oil faster.

But overdrying acne can cause irritation and make acne worse, so calamine lotion should be used sparingly. Always use it with a moisturizer.

Itching, especially on the stomach, is a very common pregnancy symptom. Calamine lotion is generally considered safe to use for itch relief during pregnancy, but it hasn’t been well-studied. Talk to a doctor before using calamine lotion while pregnant.

For most babies, calamine lotion is safe to use. It can relieve general itchiness, eczema, sunburn, and other common skin conditions.

However, you should talk to your child’s pediatrician before using calamine lotion. Some babies – especially those with other skin conditions – have skin that’s too sensitive for most lotions.

Calamine lotion is considered safe to use topically, and very few side effects have been reported.

Allergies to zinc, one of the key components of calamine lotion, haven’t been reported. Some people may be allergic to the inactive ingredients in calamine lotion. Check these inactive ingredients if you have any allergies, especially to some medications.

Signs of an allergic reaction include:

  • your rash getting worse and itchier
  • swelling around where you applied calamine lotion
  • trouble breathing

Medical Emergency

If you’re having trouble breathing, call 911 or see your doctor immediately. You could be experiencing a life-threatening reaction.

If you have other signs of an allergic reaction, see your doctor as soon as possible.

Calamine lotion can also interact with other skin medications. If you use other topical medications, ask your doctor if calamine lotion is safe before applying it to the same area.

Be sure to only use calamine lotion on your skin. Don’t ingest it or get it near your eyes.

To use calamine lotion on a pimple, first wash your face with warm water. Shake the bottle, then apply the calamine lotion to your pimple using clean fingers, a cotton ball, or a Q-tip. If using your fingers to apply, be sure to wash your hands when you’re done.

Let the calamine lotion dry to a light pink. Be careful not to touch the lotion with clothing as it dries, because wet calamine lotion can stain. To remove it, rinse with warm water.

You can keep calamine lotion on a pimple as long as overnight. But if you have sensitive skin, you may want to keep it on for less time.

Calamine lotion can be used for most skin conditions or irritations that make you itchy. It won’t cure underlying conditions, but it can treat symptoms. To use calamine lotion, dab or spread it on the affected skin areas.

Conditions typically treated with calamine lotion include:

  • chickenpox
  • poison oak
  • poison ivy
  • poison sumac
  • mosquito bites
  • hives
  • heat rash

Calamine lotion dries out the rashes caused by poison oak, ivy, and sumac, which may ooze as they develop.

Calamine lotion is available over the counter. You can find it in most drug stores or grocery stores. Or you can check out these products available online.

Calamine lotion can help make a single pimple or small rash go away faster by drying them out. But it doesn’t treat underlying causes of acne, such as bacteria, clogged pores, or hormones, nor does it prevent breakouts.

The lotion can also dry out your skin, so if you do use it to spot treat a pimple, don’t use it too often.

CALAMINE LOTION

Important Always read and follow the care instructions and any warnings provided by the carpet manufacturer. Rugs and carpets with natural fibers and/or certain dyes may require special treatment. If in doubt contact a cleaning professional for advice/service. Also follow these General Rules for stain treatment.

  • Remove as much of the lotion as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or by scraping with a dull knife.
  • Apply isopropyl rubbing alcohol to a clean white cloth, white paper towel or cotton ball. If the spot extends deep into the pile use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no color is transferred to the cloth. Do not allow the alcohol to penetrate into the backing as this will destroy the latex bond. If the spot is on the surface only, rub in one direction at a time. Never us a circular motion to remove spot as this may destroy the texture. Stop if spot is removed. If not, go to the next step.
  • Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a hand dish washing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 quart of water; examples of safe detergents are Dawn® and Joy®.) Use a blotting motion to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting with a white paper towel until spot is removed.
  • Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture.
  • Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.

Growvit Calamine Body Lotion – “At first I thought my daughter had overeaten sweets. The next day I called an ambulance and … chickenpox was stunned!

In my 27 years, I didn’t know what chickenpox was. I didn’t know what she looked like. Every quarantine in the garden and at school, I left my daughter at home.

She was vaccinated against chickenpox by the way! She is generally vaccinated against everything, I am alogical, and similarly managed to go through a full revaccination for all the vaccinations that are needed.

But today I will tell you about one thing that was advised to me in an ambulance – Calamine.

😁😁 Lyrical digression.

It turned out that when I was 27 I didn’t get chickenpox, I didn’t get sick at all, and I don’t know what herpes is. This experience was given to me personally just kick as hard, firstly because I stupidly did not know what it was. And secondly, because I get sick – write wasted.

For me, the canvas thing is like a plague, and in principle I am afraid of this just to the point of horror. I personally got vaccinated in childhood, with my daughter a year ago. Everything is complicated by the fact that I did not get vaccinated. Because 2 days before the first bubble I got 4 vaccinations (measles, hepatitis, tetanus, diphtheria – revaccination). That is, my immunity is reduced and so decently, which means that the chance of getting sick is a whole bunch of times higher!

⌛️ ⏳ Days one and two.

I am a crazy alarmist in principle, especially lately. In general, the doctor was even surprised they say how you managed to induce panic in three blisters.

And I’ll tell you how. At first I thought she had a cold. Just a little snot. Then her throat tickled, but she went to school because training is more important to her.

One evening she found a pimple on her back – it was the first one, it looked like a blister. I think, well, maybe I overate sweets, with whom it doesn’t happen. but it seemed strange to me and I immediately took a photo. Including if that would not forget where it started, measles is everywhere!

Coming home from school – two more. On the leg and on the side. These are:

I understand that this is not the norm, I google measles / rubella / chicken pox spots to compare visually. I think chickenpox, I call to call a doctor. Call the doctor until 14.00, I call an ambulance. reassured, said what to treat advised the doctor to call tomorrow. While calling still appeared …

I wrote down what to treat, I’m going to the pharmacy. Daughter gives out:

A classmate had the same spots, he walked with them for a long time … in the sense ??? I am writing to the teacher, she confirms that she went and was sick (hello and quarantine ?!), but in early May she recovered and could not infect. But nothing that the incubation period is up to 21 days ???

I run to the pharmacy, I buy everything on the ambulance list. Antihistamine inside, fenistil and calamine, so that it would not be brilliant green and not fukartsin and that there would be no stains left, I buy fresh antipyretics for everyone. Rushing home…

More and more spots. I undress the child every hour, I smear what has appeared.

Lots of warm tea, she’s like a vegetable in the evening. No temperature. The blessing will be able to feed dinner – already a victory.

Before going to bed she looked like a leopard, but with white spots.

⌛️ ⏳ Day three.

More spots. Howls that itch. I got up at 8:00 to call the doctor. Saturday! Call from 9.00, ok waiting for 9.00, calling. Damn his robot. Like called? Or didn’t you call? What to do then?

I smear new stains. There are already 25-30 of them.

10.00 a call at the door, I thought food delivery, no, the doctor. Promptly!

The doctor praised that everything needed had already been bought, but also advised Acyclovir inside. I was surprised – how did you understand that at the stage of three spots? What am I? This is my panic. She said that just in case the doctor would still arrive tomorrow, she asked not to smear a couple of pimples (yeah, it’s difficult!). They said that they are contagious until the 12th and come on the 12th. Checked – 12 Friday. No, I don’t want it on Friday, maybe on Monday? Well, to be exact. Moved the sick leave until Monday, super.

They said that yes, the name and surname of a classmate is on the control, he actually went with chickenpox. He himself recovered, everyone at home is sick, including parents, and there are a lot of children there. That’s it, that’s it, well done parents. Damn, how can you not see a rash in a child, can you send everyone to infect about it ???

I took a picture of the appointment and the doctor went off into the sunset.

I’ll immediately note the plus of the drug – unlike brilliant green and fucorcin, it does not leave stains. In the photo, if you look at the hands, you can find white spots. It’s just calamine. Water with shower gel is washed off with a bang, which is also a plus!

🗓️🗓️ Days go on.

In addition to calamine, they also used loratadine by mouth one tablet a day, Acyclovir 4 tablets a day, and calamine 1-2 times a day.

Manganese baths also saved. Potassium permanganate was sent to us by familiar doctors, but there is still no potassium permanganate in pharmacies.

The strangest place for the bubble was the foot. It turned out to be useless to smear it, because the calamine peels off from there already 10 minutes after drying.

The first 3 bubbles turned out to be the most difficult and painful. They were as if with pus … they burst painfully and, although they were not combed, traces remained in their place.

Such white dots remained on all bubbles instead of crusts. More precisely, the calamine itself seemed to form crusts. Not the most aesthetic of course, but definitely better than brilliant green.

🖤🖤 My opinion.

400-500₽ for peace, for a remedy that will not be equipped with stains longer than there will be blisters from chickenpox – this is not much.

I can’t say that the remedy greatly removes itching, but it dries very well. Among the shortcomings, I also cannot fail to note that the product dries up with a crust on the neck and often, while squeezing it onto a stick, it drips on everything around.

Of course, it washes off easily, but still, getting everything dirty and then washing it is a drawback. The bed where the daughter slept became covered in white specks, as if soiled with putty.

Nevertheless, this thing is better than fukortsin or brilliant green, and therefore, yes, it is definitely worth its money.

Calamine lotion: latest reviews

Most people survive chickenpox successfully during childhood. Some, of course, encounter this disease as adults, so their treatment requires more care and attention. You can get rid of the rash with the help of Calamine Lotion. Recently, a large number of people have resorted to this remedy.

“Fighter” against chicken pox

About the use of such a medicine as “Calamine lotion”, reviews are only positive. The drug perfectly treats a rash all over the body. It is known that chickenpox is accompanied by the appearance of small bubbles on the skin. If they are scratched, the disease will spread throughout the body, and ulcers will appear in place of the scratched bubbles. To prevent this from happening, you need to cauterize all wounds and blisters. Calamine Lotion will do this task best of all, consumer reviews are evidence of this. Unlike brilliant green, this tool not only dries the blisters, but also promotes their rapid healing.

“Calamine lotion”: instructions must be read carefully

Before use, as always, consult your doctor. The drug has a wide spectrum of action. It is multifunctional and can be used in the treatment of various skin diseases. “Calamine lotion”, reviews of which also confirm that this is a universal medicine, is effective for cuts and burns. It has, in addition to drying, also a cooling and soothing effect, eliminates itching and redness. In addition, it is able to relieve swelling, effectively fights inflammatory manifestations on the skin. The lotion has an antiseptic effect, prevents the growth of bacteria and reduces the risk of developing pathological processes. With the help of lotion, regeneration functions are activated. Although it is a drug, it is often used to treat minor cosmetic problems (acne, pimples, redness, irritation from insect bites). Some women use the drug as a face mask in the fight against age spots. At the same time, “Calamine Lotion” (reviews are a vivid confirmation of this fact) is perfectly perceived by the skin. After a ten-minute procedure, the face is noticeably fresher, pigment spots become lighter, and wrinkles are barely noticeable.
