Excedrin Migraine Discontinued Until Further Notice

What does the temporary pause in production of Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine mean for those living with migraine? (UPDATE: Available once again)

UPDATE July 2020: According to Excedrin®’s website, Excedrin® Extra Strength and Migraine products are headed back to retailer shelves after supply issues removed the caplet and gel-tablets from the market. To find products near you and to learn more about the products, visit their website.

Original article:

Those living with migraine may have to find an alternative over the counter treatment to Excedrin Migraine as it is discontinued until further notice.

Both caplet and gel-tablets of Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine will be temporarily unavailable as GlaxoSmithKline works to resolve an inconsistency in how the ingredients are weighed. The company said in a statement that the production halt is a “precautionary measure” and that there are no safety risks associated with either product. However, both will be temporarily off the shelves until the issue is resolved.

For people using Excedrin to relieve recurring migraine attacks, this news may be concerning. But what sounds scary, could actually be the ticket to reducing the frequency of your migraine attacks.

Why? Because taking over-the-counter or prescription medications too frequently can actually cause Medication Overuse Headache. Overstimulating the brain pathways involved in reducing pain can create a dependence on medication. Not only does overuse make the medication less effective over time, it also causes pain between attacks and may trigger more frequent attacks. Overuse may even have a hand in progressing the disease from episodic to chronic.

The warning signs of medication overuse include taking acute medications more than two to three days per week or having an acute medicate wear off before the pain has subsided. People who reach this stage should contact their physician to schedule an evaluation.

If you rely on these Excedrin products for relief from migraine, the American Migraine Foundation recommends you schedule an appointment with your headache specialist to determine an alternate course of treatment.

Migraine Sufferers Alert: Two Popular Excedrin Products Temporarily Discontinued

Two over-the-counter medicines that many headache and migraine sufferers rely on, Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine, will be hard to find in the coming days.

According to a statement from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the company that makes the drugs, production and distribution have been temporarily halted because of “inconsistencies in how we transfer and weigh ingredients.”

These inconsistencies were uncovered during routine quality control and assurance measures, according to a statement the company made to CNN. The products include Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets and Geltabs and Excedrin Migraine Caplets and Geltabs.

GSK has voluntarily taken the measures to suspend production and distribution as a precaution. Based on the available data, they do not believe the products pose a safety risk to consumers, according to a company spokesperson in an email to Everyday Health.

Still, that’s little consolation to people who have come to rely on these products to relieve pain.

“Millions of migraine sufferers use Excedrin, which is a combination of commonly available acetaminophen, aspirin, and the stimulant caffeine, which so many people consume in their coffee every day and in chocolate,” says Nauman Tariq, MBBS, associate professor and director of Johns Hopkins Headache Center in Baltimore. “Halting its production, although temporarily, will increase the anxiety and frustration in people with migraines.”

Patient advocate Paula K. Dumas, founder, CEO, and managing editor of MigraineAgain. com, agrees.

“Many people with migraine consider Excedrin Migraine to be a ‘first-line’ treatment. They’ll take it first and hope it knocks out the pain before using a more sedating medication,” says Dumas. “Running out will only boost anxiety levels, which can make migraine attacks even worse.”

No Excedrin Available? What Do You Do?

The company views this halt as a “short-term issue,” and production is expected to begin again shortly. But there is no definite date as to when that will happen, according to the GSK spokesperson.

Excedrin Extra Strength is used for temporary pain relief due to headaches, arthritis, and muscle aches; and Excedrin Migraine claims to help relieve pain in as little as 30 minutes.

Other Excedrin products are still available. These include Excedrin Tension Headache, which does not contain aspirin, and Excedrin PM, which also contains a sleep aid.

For many migraine and headache sufferers, Excedrin is their go-to medication. “If I was to buy a different brand, it doesn’t even touch it. I haven’t seen it empty like this [on store shelves]. It’s kind of scary,” Excedrin-user Ashleigh Eldred told ABC-affiliate WSYR. “If I have a migraine attack, I’m not sure, if I was to not have any on me, what I would do.”

Eldred is not alone. “Excedrin is a very effective drug that people really like,” says Natalia Murinova, MD, neurologist with UW Medicine in Seattle. “It’s great if it’s used sparingly, which means not more than four to six days per month. If someone has headaches one or two days per week, Excedrin is safe and effective.”

RELATED: A Personal Battle With Chronic Pain Gives Rise to MigraineAgain.com

Dr. Tariq points out that consumers have options. “Migraine patients who respond well to Excedrin can easily make a combination of separately available aspirin close to 250 mg strength, acetaminophen [brand name Tylenol close to 250 mg strength], and add a small cup of coffee, which should contain close to 65 mg of caffeine,” he says.

Excedrin Overuse: Too Much of a Good Thing?

Excedrin is one of the top drugs people use on their own, but it can lead to trouble with overuse, says Dr. Murinova. “This is a drug that, if people are taking it 10 days a month or more, they can get into a condition called medication overuse headache,” she says. “If a person is treating three or more headaches a week with Excedrin and have stress, they could very easily be causing themselves to have more headaches.”

In addition to more headaches, long-term use of Excedrin or a “replacement combination” on a frequent basis can also result in damage to kidneys, liver, and stomach, according to Tariq. Patients who take Excedrin or combine drugs as a replacement for Excedrin should not use them frequently, he adds.

Migraines: A Disabling Illness

The World Health Organization (WHO) named migraine as one of the 10 most disabling illnesses. Along with the pain of a migraine, many patients live in fear of the next attack, known as cephalalgiaphobia.

“Typical best practice convention among headache specialists is to prescribe a ‘backup rescue or abortive drug’ to patients,” says Tariq. “In case the first-line drug fails to help or if it’s not available, patients can use a second-line drug.”

There are different types of drugs available to help treat migraines. Some examples include:

  • Triptans, which work by constricting specific blood vessels that help block pain pathways in the brain
  • Dihydroergotamine (DHE), which helps narrow the blood vessels around the brain and is typically used to treat migraine pain that persists for two or more days
  • Gepants, which inhibit the protein calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Ubrelvy (ubrogepant), the first gepant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), should be available later this year.

Migraine sufferers who need an alternative or additional treatment should talk to their doctor, neurologist, or a headache specialist about these medication options, says Tariq.

Although it might be challenging for patients to be without Excedrin, it could be a good time to step back and look at the root causes of their migraines, especially if they are having more than one a week, says Murinova.

“For the majority of people, the headache is primary, meaning it’s not a brain tumor. It’s their brain giving them the alarm because they’re stressed, sleep deprived, not getting adequate nutrition, or a combination of those factors and more,” she says. “This could be an opportunity to explore ways to take good care of yourself and take a look at other options to help with headaches.”

“This temporary recall may leave people digging through backpacks and medicine chests to count just how many pills they have left,” says Dumas. “Maybe that’ll make people re-evaluate how they’re treating attacks in the first place.”

How Many Excedrin Can I Take?

So I found myself with an incredible headache last week that was sucking the will to live right from very soul. Okay, slight exaggeration but it hurt. I took two Excedrin Migraine. Hours later the headache was still pounding the life out of my productivity so I wondered if it had been long enough to take two more Excedrin. I thought I remembered Excedrin having a maximum dosage of two pills/caplets every four hours (with six or eight pills total for 24 hours) but I wasn’t sure. Since I have a history of liver issues, I checked the label to be sure.

First, I was a little annoyed that the dosage information seemed “hidden” behind a peel-back label on the smaller Excedrin bottle. To my extreme disappointment, I couldn’t take any more Excedrin until the next morning since I had already reached the maximum daily dosage. The label said I could only take two caplets every 24 hours! WAIT, it gets better…

I was sure it wasn’t like that in the past so I asked several people throughout my day how many Excedrin Migraine caplets they thought an adult could take and how often. The answers ranged from two every four hours to two every eight hours. Most of the people thought it was two every six hours. NO ONE remembered it being two pills a day.

When I got home I looked at a larger bottle but this one was Excedrin Extra Strength. The larger bottle of Excedrin Extra Strength shows a maximum of two caplets every six hours and no more than eight caplets every 24 hours for adults and children 12 years old and older. WTH?

The active ingredients for both of these products are the same per pill:

  • Acetaminophen 250 mg.
  • Aspirin 250 mg.  (NSAID – (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug))
  • Caffeine 65 mg.

The EXACT same active per-pill ingredients and drug amounts (mg) are identical for both bottles; the Excedrin Extra Strength and the Excedrin Migraine.

WHT Excedrin?

So, tell me Excedrin, which amount is correct? How many Excedrin can we SAFELY take in 24 hours and how often? Can we take more if we buy bigger bottles?

Several Brand Name Humidifiers are Recalled as a Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) ordered Gree Electric Appliances to initiate a recall of 2.5 million dehumidifiers following a reported 450 fires related to the products overheating, smoking and catching fire.

Specific Models Being Recalled

The recall consists of units manufactured by the following companies: SuperClima, De’Longhi, SoleusAir, Fedders, Seabreeze, Fellini, Premiere, Danby, Frigidaire, Norpole, GE, Gree and Kenmore. The size of the manufacturer models includes: 70, 65, 50, 45, 40, 30, 25, and 20-pint dehumidifiers.

To find out if your unit is included in the recall, check the model numbers and date codes found on stickers on the front, back, or side of the unit. They come in gray, white, beige and black plastic housings. The units can measure from 19 to 24 inches in height, 13 to 15 inches in width with a 9 to 11 inch in depth. To determine if your unit is among those affected by the recall contact the manufacturer or the CPSC for details.

Dangers of Fire and Smoke

Many dehumidifiers are used in in workshops, garages, cellars and damp basements or other less inhabited areas of the home that are susceptible to moisture. The dehumidifier aids as a means of reducing the humidity in an affected area which in turn reduces the risk of mildew and mold formation that can trigger allergic reactions to those exposed. For this reason, if a unit overheats and catches fire it may not be immediately noticed which can lead to destructive fires. Additionally, the defect can be responsible for producing smoke in a fire which raises the risk for smoke inhalation related health problems and potentially death from oxygen deprivation. This situation becomes even worse if it happens at night when people are asleep and may take longer to react and get to safety.

Smoke inhalation can be a health danger as it causes irritation to nasal membranes, eyes, alveoli and brachii and other lung tissue. Smoke inhalation causes upper and lower respiratory irritation and infection and may exacerbate existing pulmonary conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bronchitis. In people with seasonal allergies, this can adversely affect the natural recovery from infections brought on by pollen and other allergens that lead to colds, sinusitis or other respiratory conditions.

Damages Due to Defective Dehumidifiers

Over 2000 incidents have been reported on these products leading to over 400 injuries and more than $19 million in damages. The manufacture is offering refunds. If your unit is among those affected, you should initiate contact with them for a refund. This product is in its fourth recall since September of 2013. To eliminate your concerns of a fire, immediately unplug your dehumidifier and search for the manufacturer and the model of the unit.

These units were sold at several department stores, including Walmart, Sears, Sam’s Club, Mills Fleet Farm, Menard’s, Lowe’s, Kmart, Home Depot, HH Gregg and Aafes. Online these units were sold at Amazon and Ebay. All of these units were manufactured in China by Gree Appliances.

If you are concerned that your unit may be on the list of the makes and models being recalled, you can contact your manufacturer or the CPSC to verify if your unit is included. For additional information, you may contact Gree, Toll Free at 866-853-2808.

90,000 A Brief Guide to Stephen King’s Universe – Weekend – Kommersant

Castle Rock. Created by Sam Shaw, Dustin Thomason, 2018–2019

HBO is about to end the series hit “Stranger” – a film adaptation of a relatively new novel by Stephen King, which, however, is not much different from the old ones. Unhappy children, baseball coaches, a disappointing diagnosis of the institution of family and power, a twisted plot – King’s universe has not changed for many years, and perhaps this stability is the secret of his success. She is reproduced not only in the endless film adaptations of King, but also in TV shows that formally have nothing to do with him, such as “Stranger Things” or “I Don’t Like This.” Nikita Soldatov studied the main elements of Stephen King’s world and compiled a short guide to it

She didn’t want to move to Maine and protested when Vic put the idea to her. Despite the fact that they had vacationed here more than once, she had always considered this state to be a wilderness, where snow lies twenty feet deep in winter and people are cut off from the outside world. She was frightened by the thought of moving to such a place with a small child. Donna said that in such a situation she would only have to swallow pills or stick her head in the oven.

“Kujo”

It’s time for a werewolf to show up right here – in this small Maine town, where once a week there is a church dinner with fried beans, where little boys and girls still bring apples to their teachers and where the local weekly weekly reports country walks with religious trepidation organized by the Club of Senior Citizens. The newspaper will report on other, much less pleasant things next week.

Map of Maine based on the works of Stephen King

Stephen King was the first to see the horror of quiet backwater towns and moved the action from metropolises habitual for thrillers to the provinces. And not just to the province, but to his home state of Maine. Before King Man, he was a blank spot on the literary map of America: he was remembered only by the fans of Lovecraft, who occasionally settled their monsters there. That there was no better place for a thriller, King realized at the beginning of his career – the action of his first published novel “Carrie” (1974) was already set here. One of the most sparsely populated states in the United States, almost 90% forested, Maine is made up of many small cities so isolated from each other that anything can happen there without anyone knowing about it.As King remarked in an interview: “In Maine, people easily disappear and easily come back – sometimes the living dead.” The Shawshank prison, the pet cemetery, the town of Castle Rock, where the rabid St. Bernard Cujo lives, the school where Carrie goes to school, the sewers where the clown devouring children lives – all these places are in Maine. King himself loves Maine not only for the ideal scenery for thrillers: only in this dense wilderness he can write calmly, without fear of annoying fans.

Everything is different in Maine, you know those who come up for an autograph, but the further from home, the more places where people simply cannot believe that I exist. You feel like some kind of freak.

“The heart in which fear dwells. Stephen King. Life and work “(2010)

One of the reasons why I live in Bangor is its remoteness: if someone wants to get to me, they must show remarkable perseverance. You need to really want to get here.

“I saw that you have a manuscript there,” she continued, slowly tilting her open right hand. The capsules finally slid off her and fell into her left hand.

“This is not about Misery, I get it.” She looked at him with a slight disapproval, though mixed, like the last time, with love. She looked at him like a mother.

– What if I read it? Do you mind if I read?

– No … – His bones were smashed to smithereens, and countless shards of broken glass stuck into his legs.

“The fact is, I would never have dared to do this without your permission,” she said seriously.“I respect you too much. Truth be told, Paul, I love you.

– Your imagination, – she said. – Your creativity. I just meant it.

He muttered in despair, though he could only think of one thing:

– I know. You are my biggest fan of .

Stephen King with a fan, 1985

The most widely read writer in America, if not the world, in the mid-1980s, Stephen King became the object of a real cult: obsessed fans were ready to buy any book with his name on the cover, as one of his publishers said – even a telephone directory. After the release of the new novel, fans flooded the publishing house with letters, and the most persistent called King right at home and asked him to attach a 1000-page novel about werewolves, then expel evil spirits from a neighbor, or send money. The matter was not limited to requests: one reader sent King a parcel with the skeletons of kittens, another publicly accused him of murdering John Lennon, the third even climbed into his house, accused King of plagiarism and threatened to burn everything. There were no casualties: the police arrested the violator, and King – almost the first in the entire state of Maine – installed surveillance cameras.King was especially frightened that fans want him to reckon with their demands, and show aggression when he refuses to give an autograph or rewrite the ending where the child dies. Such a disgruntled fan, forcing the writer to finish the novel, he made the main character of “Misery” (1987). Over time, however, fear for himself was replaced by fear for the family: in 2006 he wrote The Story of Lizzie, in which a crazy fan pursues the relatives of a deceased writer.

The danger facing a successful writer in America is that as soon as you become famous, they want to eat you up. Here a kind of cannibalistic cult of stars has developed: 90,036 first a person is lifted to a pedestal, and then are eaten.

Probably, I again got sick with the disease of a sophomore: it always seems to them that after the first success is inevitable failure. By the way, at one of the lectures on the course of American literature, the professor said that of all American writers, only Harper Lee managed to avoid panic for the second book.

Most often, King’s protagonists are writers on the verge of a nervous breakdown, disappointed in their works or suffering from a writer’s block. According to King, the life of a writer is not just a torment of creativity, but a real torment: crazy fans, evil critics, accusations of plagiarism, nervous breakdowns. Hated by his sentimental bestsellers, Paul Sheldon (Misery); Jack Torrance (The Shining, 1977) going crazy in a prolonged creative crisis; trying to regain inspiration with ghosts Mike Noonan (Bag of Bones, 1998) – all different the degrees reflected King’s own anguish.King decided to quit literature for the first time when he got started when 30 publishers refused to print his novel Carrie. She was forced to continue by her wife, who took the manuscript out of the trash heap and sent it to another publishing house, where she was accepted. The next crisis came when, after the release of two novels about writers – “Lot of Salem” (1975) and “The Shining” – critics announced that King’s books were not literature, but chewing gum for the brain. King himself agreed with this thesis, calling his works “the literary equivalent of a big mac” and giving up writing, then argued, calling the main American critics Harold Bloom and Michiko Kakutani short-sighted snobs who only contribute to the “strengthening of the caste system” in literature.

“I can’t write”, – I said to a voice in my sleep. The voice answered that I could. The voice said there was no more psychological barrier.

– I was afraid to write, – I heard my own voice. – I was afraid even to try to write.

This revelation escaped me in the evening, on the eve of the day when I finally flew away to Maine, when I already had a hard time typing. By the end of vacation , I drank almost every night.

– It is not the psychological barrier itself that scares me. His scrapping scares me. I’m in a complete ass, boys and girls, in a complete ass.

Drugs are part of the negative experience. It seems to me that this is the dark side of the obsession that makes us writers, prompts us to pour out feelings on paper. For me, writing is also a kind of drug. If I don’t write … I have cats scratching my soul at the thought.

God, how he needed a drink. A glass of booze. Just one glass to bounce back. And in the whole hotel there was nothing stronger than culinary sherry. Now he needed alcohol as a medicine, nothing more. After severe shocks, alcohol in small doses is even recommended by doctors. As anesthesia. He had done his duty and deserved a dose of medicine to relieve stress. Something stronger than Excedrin. But there was nothing.

In every second novel, Stephen King – an alcoholic and a drug addict – talks about the fight against addiction. This struggle rarely ends in victory: in The Shining, evil spirits interfere with drinking, vampires in The Lot of Salem, and the hero of 11/22/63 (2011) generally finds it easier to go back in time and save Kennedy than to quit smoking. If addiction can be dealt with, it is a miracle: in Under the Dome (2009), an invisible dome cut off the city from the rest of the world and at the same time from the supply of opioid painkillers; in Renaissance (2014), heroin addiction was cured with the help of magical electricity. An alternative to a miracle – the mafia: in “Corporation” Quit Smoking “” “(1978), she promised to kill the family of the protagonist, if he does not get rid of the addiction.King himself had tried everything by the late 1980s – from mouthwashes and cough syrup to LSD – but preferred beer and cocaine. King wrote his main novels – “The Shining”, “It” (1986) and “Misery” – drunk or high, “Tomminokers” (1987) printed, stuffing his nose with cotton so that after cocaine there was no blood, but how the novel was created. Kujo ”(1981), he just doesn’t remember. It is not surprising that he was not only in no hurry to quit, but he was also afraid – so as not to jeopardize the very ability to write. External forces helped: in 1987, his wife gave him an ultimatum, and over the next two years he stopped drinking and using drugs.King did not disclose the details of the transition period, but says that for him, the fight against addiction was worse than any horror.

Cocaine was like a switch for me. I started around 1979 and have been sniffing for eight years. Not to say that I sat on it for an insanely long time, but this is longer than the Second World War lasted. And it felt like a war.

Every alcoholic can tell a story about how he hit rock bottom. It happened to me when I came to my son’s match in Minor League Baseball with a can of beer in a paper bag, and his coach told me: “If there is alcohol, you have to leave.” And then I thought: “You should never tell anyone about this.” I remembered this.

To keep himself busy by giving up alcohol and drugs, in the late 1980s, King got a job coaching the city’s children’s baseball team.He adored baseball since childhood, but he was embarrassed to go to baseball games alone, and even more so with his mother, where all the other guys came with their fathers, who also taught them how to play on weekends. His father left the family when King was two years old: unable to practice his favorite game, King spent his childhood studying the theory and history of baseball. In adulthood, baseball not only helped to cope with withdrawal symptoms, but also with another professional crisis: his essay on how the Bangor children’s team is preparing for the state championship was published by The New Yorker, recognizing the writer in King and ending his unanimous contempt among intellectuals.King’s fee donated to his charges, adding another $ 1.5 million to build a new stadium. Baseball-related trappings are scattered throughout King’s novels: In Needful Things (1991), the enchanted baseball card becomes a symbol of shattered teenage hopes, in Stranger (2018), the life of an innocent person collapses at a baseball stadium, in Kujo, a baseball bat becomes a vehicle. rescue, and in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (1999), the protagonist makes an imaginary friendship with a Boston Red Sox player. The last novel, by the way, is not divided into chapters, but – like a baseball game – into innings. But this is not King’s most baseball book. Co-written with Stuart O’Nan, The Fan (2004) is a stacked diary of two Boston Red Sox fans from the 2004 season. The novel is documentary – the diaries belonged to King and O’Nan themselves.

To distract herself from the verbal skirmish in the front seat, Trisha plunged into her favorite daydream. She took off her Red Sox baseball cap and looked at the sweeping print on the visor. This painting helped Trichet to tune in to the right wave. Painting by Tom Gordon.

Before falling asleep, Mark Petrie found the strength to be surprised once again at the strangeness of adults. They suppress with alcohol or drive away with sleeping pills such mundane, simple fears, as work, money, whether my wife loves me, do I have friends. They do not face the fears of any child lying awake in a dark room. No one believes a child, and no one will cure him of the fear that someone is looking at him from the ceiling. Or hiding under the bed. He must fight his battle alone, night after night, with the only hope of a gradual fading of imagination, which is called growing up.

When King was either four or five, one of his few friends was hit by a train right in front of him. After that, King believed for a long time that he himself would soon die – either from polio, with which his suspicious mother constantly frightened him, or from the hand of a maniac who dreamed of him in every bushes. In addition to diseases and maniacs, King was also afraid of spiders, drowning in the toilet, clowns and a Soviet nuclear bomb.Little Stephen coped with fears, writing stories – mainly about the Sly Rabbit, who, together with a team of friends, drives an old car and helps children in trouble. In an adult King, children help each other out on their own: uniting in groups, even obvious losers become heroes, as in “Tel” (1982) and “It”. (Netflix’s “Stranger Things” originate precisely in King’s novels.) The downtrodden, lonely, left to their own devices the King’s children defeat the killer clown (“It”), devouring the space of the Langolier monsters (“The Langoliers”, 1990), government special agents experimenting on humans (Eyes Ignite, 1980), vampires (Salem’s Lot), and werewolves (The Werewolf Cycle, 1983).And all this almost without the help of adults who, suffering from depression and alcoholism, not only ignore childhood fears, but also become monsters themselves. An abuser father, according to King, is more terrible than an ancient evil that has settled within the walls of a hotel (“The Shining”), and a hyper-caring mother is worse than a clown devouring children (“It”).

The writer has to be a little nuts to imagine non-existent worlds. You hear voices, make up all sorts of things, do everything that we were not told in 90,036 childhood. We were taught to distinguish between the real world and the imaginary. Adults will say: “You have an invisible friend, how cute, soon you will grow up and forget about him.” The only thing is that writers do not grow up, they remain children forever.

I lived an unusual, ragged childhood, was raised by a single parent who wandered around the country a lot and who – I’m not entirely sure of this – at times attached my brother and I to one of her sisters, because economically or emotionally she could not drag us.Maybe she was just chasing after our father, who accumulated a bunch of all kinds of bills and then scrambled when I was two years old.

Family problems

A faithful family man, from novel to novel, King debunks the myth of the ideal American family, whose members support each other in everything. In his works, the desire to preserve the family at all costs leads to an uprising of the dead (“Pet Cemetery”, 1983), and the inability of the spouses to find a compromise leads to death (“Children of the Corn”, 1978). In The Almighty Text Processor (1983), the hero uses a supercomputer to “erase” his unloved wife and son; in The Good Marriage (2010), only murder saves from the boredom and routine of family life. The main horror about a dysfunctional family and domestic violence was “The Shining”: a worthless father and husband cannot leave his wife he does not love, the wife continues to indulge her husband’s demands, even when she realizes that this threatens her, and their little son is afraid to upset his parents a message that evil lives nearby. It all ends, of course, badly. King got the idea for the novel when, in the midst of another creative crisis and depression, he suddenly caught himself thinking that he was ready to hit a child who annoyed him.The Shining, incidentally, was Stephen King’s first publicly censored book: in the late 1970s, it began to be removed from US school libraries for defiling traditional family values and portraying his father “in the form of pure evil.”

It was a vicious vicious circle: the more I worried and the more inadequate I behaved due to the fact that, as it seemed to me then, I did not succeed as a writer, the more often I sought refuge in a bottle, thereby only aggravating the already tense situation in the family, and from this even more worried.

She looked at the bathtub, at the blue curtain pushed to the far edge, and forgot how to finish her husband’s name. She just stared at the bathtub with a solemn expression on her face, like a child who comes to school for the first time . In a moment, she will start screaming, and Anita Mackenzie, who lived in the next house, will hear her. It is Anita Mackenzie who will call the police in full confidence that someone broke into the Uris’ house and now people are being killed there.

School

Carrie. Directed by Brian De Palma, 1976

School is hell. A clumsy, always sick bespectacled man, during his school years, King preferred Lovecraft to his classmates, who teased and beat him. However, according to King himself, his school years were still nothing compared to what his classmates went through, who were really bullied: the memories of what girls had to face at school formed the basis of Carrie. Bullying, lack of sex education, hormonal changes and teenage depression – in Carrie, King described all the horrors of high school that he knew very well. These horrors in his eyes justified everything – and the desire to destroy the school itself, as in “Carrie”, and the desire to get even with classmates, taking them hostage and shooting them, as in “Rage” (1976).The latest novel caused King a lot of trouble: in 1997, he was found in the locker of 14-year-old Michael Carneal, who set up a shooting at a school, which killed three people. It soon became clear that this was the fifth time that King’s novel was found on a school shooter. After that, King ordered the publishers to withdraw the novel from sale and henceforth not print it again – until the US reformed legislation on the acquisition of weapons.

I hated school.I felt that I was not dressed that way, then I thought that I had too many pimples on my face. I don’t trust people who fondly remember high school; this is a sure sign that at school they were part of the “elite”, they were not bullying them, but they.

“The heart in which fear dwells. Stephen King. Life and creation”

However, all those years did not pass without a trace, all those years that contained “let’s pull off the sheet from Carrie” in the summer camp of Christian youth, and “I found her love letter to Bobby Pickett, let’s multiply it and distribute it to everyone”, and “let’s hide it somewhere her panties “, and” let’s put a snake in her shoes “, and” drown her, drown. “Carrie, who in her sophomore year of high school , school , stumbled in a modern dance class, sprawled on the floor and chipped a tooth. Carrie, who always has wet spots under her armpits … All of this suddenly came together, and the mass became more critical. The last killer joke, the last straw in the cup of patience – and that’s it. Explosion.

“Carrie”

It is unlikely that one little romance made the school shooters do what they did. These were unfortunate boys with great psychological problems, whom were bullied at school and who, if not were beaten at home, at best were ignored. They were not broken by my book, it was not she who made them murderers, they simply found something close in her, because they would have been broken already.

In our enlightened age, everyone knows that psychiatry is God’s gift to the unhappy mankind, tormented by anal fixation, because it allows one to get rid of the fear of sinning by breaking the commandments of the Old Testament. Suffice it to say that as a child your father hated you, and you can terrorize the entire district, rape women, set fire to bingo clubs and still count on an acquittal.

Church

King had problems with the church as a child: he grew up in a Methodist family, he had Catholic relatives, and the abbot of the Methodist church promised that these relatives would burn in hell. The situation worried little King and subsequently led to a skeptical attitude towards religion. Distrust of the church is a sure sign of a positive hero in his novels. Churched believers are either disillusioned with the faith, like the Reverend Jacobs in Renaissance, or they turn out to be religious extremists, ready to justify any madness by serving God. In Children of the Corn, everyone over 18 is sacrificed to God, Mrs. Carmody in The Mist (1980) declares the invasion of ancient monsters to be God’s punishment and prepares the murder of all infidels, the Reverend Gardner in Talisman (1984) tortures and kills children in the church school.King himself claims that he is not against God, but only against the church. However, he does not persist in this either: for example, he is quite tolerant of the Unitarian Universalist Church, of which his daughter Naomi became the priest.

As a child, I heard a lot of stories about hellish torment. Somewhere in me, in the depths of my soul, there will always be that 90,036 little boy from the Methodist Church, 90,037 who were taught that it is not labor alone that man will be saved and that hell awaits sinners forever.

“The heart in which fear dwells. Stephen King. Life and creation”

The attraction of religious mania is that it can explain everything. As soon as God (or the devil) is mistaken for the root cause of everything that happens in the perishable world, nothing is left to chance … and there is no point in trying to change anything.

As I stood in the back room of Peabody’s funeral home and looked at the mutilated remains of my son, who was much more eager to go to Disneyland than to heaven, I had a revelation. Religion is the spiritual equivalent of an insurance company, where you transfer your contributions year after year, and when it comes to receiving the compensation that you paid with such – pardon the pun – religious zeal, it turns out that the offices that took your money for doesn’t really exist.

Roy Easterbrook stood up in the rapidly emptying hall.

– Reverend, – he said. – I heard that in the glove compartment of your car they found a bottle of drunk. And Mert Peabody said that when he bent over your wife’s body, she smelled of booze. Here’s the reason. Here’s your point. Don’t you have the heart to accept God’s will? Fine. But leave the others alone.

Like most Americans who spent the 1970s recovering from the consequences of the next oil crisis and expecting a nuclear war, King is not a big fan of technology: in his novels, cars are deadlier than crazy female fans, mad dogs, husbands-abusers and killer clowns. They destroy relationships (Christina, 1983), open portals to another dimension (Almost Like a Buick, 2002) and threaten uprising (Trucks, 1973).Ordinary cars are also dangerous: King is generally convinced that Americans have an unhealthy relationship with cars. Car accidents happen in his novels regularly: in the “Dead Zone” the protagonist becomes a psychic after a collision with a truck, in “Misery” a writer who got into an accident turns out to be a hostage of a fan, and in “Pet Cemetery” a child dies under the wheels (but then comes to life). King’s superstitious fans are sure that the cars did not forgive him for the constant insults and took revenge: in 1999, King, walking on a highway in Maine, was hit by a van.The result was a shattered thigh, cracks in the spine, multiple bone fractures – King spent several weeks on an artificial respirator, it took another year to learn to walk again. After his recovery, King bought and destroyed the van that hit him. Worse, the driver who hit him was found dead on King’s birthday.

Truck crept up to us, huge wheels rolling silently over the gravel. Hidden to jump on us now, catching in a circle of light. The enormous chrome grille didn’t growl. The roar of the engine was filled with anger and frustration.

School is evil, church is evil, let alone politics. In King’s novels, government officials don’t care about citizens at best. Quite often – either out of stupidity or intentionally – civil servants literally bring death to Americans. In “The Fog,” a secret government laboratory, in the process of a failed experiment, releases prehistoric monsters into the wild, and the authorities ignore the catastrophe and simply observe how the monsters devour people. In “Confrontation” (1978), after the leak of biological weapons, people who were found to have immunity were tortured at all. However, today the most important political revelation of King is recognized as the novel “The Dead Zone” – it is believed that in 1979 King predicted Trump’s victory. The novel’s protagonist, former Bible salesman Greg Stilson, makes a fortune from illegal real estate deals and then pursues a political career through blackmail and populism.During the election campaign, he throws hot dogs to the crowd, promises to drain the Washington swamp and send all the polluted air into space, collecting it in plastic bags, and during his presidency almost starts a nuclear war. Stilson’s resemblance to Trump has impressed not only King’s fans, but also himself: he now runs an anti-Trump campaign on Twitter, where he has over 5.5 million followers.

Richard Bachman

King, who since childhood adored The Strange Story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the film I Was a Werewolf Teen, has a special interest in doppelgangers and the topic of reincarnation in general – in his works, people suffer from multiple personalities, and monsters transform into other monsters. King himself once also reincarnated as another person. In 1976, when publishers refused to print more than one of his novels a year in order not to oversaturate the market, King began writing under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The novels of Bachmann, a former sailor who miraculously recovered from brain cancer and raised chickens on his farm in New Hampshire, were much darker than King’s novels and were not in demand among readers until their true author was revealed in 1985. Bachmann was buried (the publishers reported that he died of “pseudonym cancer”), and four years later King dedicated his novel “The Dark Half” to him.The main character – a former alcoholic living in Maine and author of third-rate intellectual novels – takes a pseudonym to write detective stories, and all goes well until the pseudonym comes to life. By the way, Bachman managed to release two novels after his death – in 1996 and 2007 they were accidentally discovered by his “widow”. Parting with King’s alter ego was not easy.

Writing under the pseudonym is like becoming invisible. The more I thought about it, the more it seemed to me that it would be … how should I put it … as if I would reinvent myself.

Pain Relief Novartis Excedrin

I have been suffering from headaches since adolescence. For a long time this pain was my only ailment, but with its strength, alas, it compensated for a dozen others. I cannot confidently call my headache a migraine, because half of my head could hurt, and not only. There was no aura. But the rest of the spectrum manifested itself with might and main – pain, intolerance to light, sounds and smells, pallor, nausea, dependence on overexertion, weather, hunger ….

In his youth, simple “Citramon”, sometimes even half a pill, helped perfectly. Then either I or Citramon changed and I had to look for other medicines.I tried “Pentalgin”, “Analgin”, “Nalgezin”, “Solpadein”, “Nurofen” – all of them could help, but could remain the very poultice for the dead, for inexplicable reasons. About all kinds of “folk remedies”, such as walks in the fresh air, light massage and herbal tea, I do not even say, I tried everything – I sincerely envy the zealous preachers of such treatment – they just never had a headache.

Therefore, I was very skeptical about the Excedrin advertisement. The composition is the same as that of Citramon, which stopped helping – acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), paracetamol, caffeine. The proportions are slightly different – more paracetamol (180/250 mg), more caffeine (30/65 mg). But it didn’t seem significant. The beautiful box also did not convince me that it is worth overpaying for the new-old miracle cure 10 or more times.

But I bought it anyway. Just for the company with other means, out of curiosity.

And I was very surprised that the medicine suddenly helped! During another headache attack, after a couple of other uselessly taken pills…. Relief comes in 20-30 minutes.Unpleasant symptoms also go away, and somehow immediately, and not gradually weakening over time. Helped “Excedrin” and my family.

I will rate it “good”, because this medicine is not a panacea, sometimes the pain still does not go away to the end. In addition, I do not know if it helps with a real migraine, as the advertisement boldly promises – this is too serious a problem, much more serious than just a headache. But it helped me. Even if the pain persists, it greatly diminishes. So much so that you can feel human again. While I will buy.

Migraines, headaches with and without…. Sometimes it’s just insulting to tears – I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I try to get enough sleep, not get nervous, but still every two weeks, sometimes SHE comes more often! knocks me out of a rut, steals the days of my life, spoils my character and takes away my health. Regarding my headaches, I was examined more than once: tomography, computed and magnetic resonance imaging, REG, well, the fundus of the eye by itself. After examining the results of the examinations, the neurologist said: Yes, now I see that you really have a headache! But the nature of migraine is not fully understood, so choose pain relievers by trial, as they say, help yourself! Menopause will come – it will be easier! – thank you, made me happy and encouraged! I went to look for another specialist, I can’t say what I found.it was more useful to talk to pharmacists. This is how I discovered cofetamine and sumatriptan. This is what really works for migraines! Seeing an advertisement on TV about a new miracle drug, I naturally jumped and ran to the nearest pharmacy, and there “ended, everything was dismantled!” and so in five nearby. in the sixth ordered, they said it will be tomorrow. Here it is, my salvation, in my hands! I came home, I read the instructions and quietly slide out of my chair, it’s almost Askofen !,

HERE IS THE COMPOSITION OF ASCOPHENE:

acetylsalicylic acid 250 mg.

caffeine 65 mg,

In case of migraine, it is recommended to lupanut 2 tablets of Excedrin, my mother is helped by 2 tabs of Ascofen, well, if you eat 2.5, you get the same Excedrin, only 5-6 times cheaper!

Personally, neither Askofen nor Excedrin helps me, but I know many people who are helped by 2 Ascofen tablets, try it! As for Excedrin, for me this is a promoted askofen, just another marketing ploy! Do not be ill!

Preparations containing probenecid may delay the elimination of ibuprofen.

Antiplatelet agents and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (for example, clopidogrel, ticlopidine)

When using NSAIDs, the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding increases.

Acetylsalicylic acid

As with other drugs containing NSAIDs, the simultaneous use of ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid is not recommended, as the likelihood of unwanted effects increases.

Experimental data show that the simultaneous use of ibuprofen can inhibit the effect of low doses of acetylsalicylic acid on platelet aggregation. However, due to the limitations of these data and inaccuracies in the extrapolation of ex vivo data to the clinical situation, reliable conclusions regarding the continuous use of ibuprofen cannot be drawn. The development of clinically significant effects is considered unlikely with the occasional use of ibuprofen.

Lithium preparations

NSAIDs can reduce the excretion of lithium.

Antihypertensive drugs, beta-blockers and diuretics

NSAIDs can reduce the antihypertensive effect of antihypertensive drugs, including ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists, beta-adrenoblockers and beta-adrenergic urethra.

Diuretics can also increase the risk of nephrotoxic effects of NSAIDs.

Methotrexate

NSAIDs can inhibit the tubular secretion of methotrexate and reduce the clearance of methotrexate.

Cyclosporin

When using NSAIDs, the risk of nephrotoxicity increases.

Tacrolimus

With the simultaneous use of NSAIDs and tacrolimus, the risk of nephrotoxicity may increase.

Zidovudine

With the simultaneous use of NSAIDs and zidovudine, the risk of hematological toxicity increases. There is evidence of an increased risk of hemarthrosis and hematomas in HIV-positive patients with hemophilia who received concomitant treatment with zidovudine and ibuprofen.

Quinolone antibiotics

Animal studies indicate that NSAIDs may increase the risk of seizures associated with quinolone antibiotics.Patients taking NSAIDs and quinolones may be at increased risk of developing seizures.

Inhibitors of the isoenzyme CYP2C9

The simultaneous use of ibuprofen and inhibitors of the isoenzyme CYP2C9 can enhance the effect of ibuprofen (a substrate of the isoenzyme CYP2C9). In a study using voriconazole and fluconazole (inhibitors of the isoenzyme CYP2C9), an increase in the content of 8 (+) – ibuprofen in the body by approximately 80-100% was shown. With simultaneous use with inhibitors of the isoenzyme CYP2C9, the possibility of reducing the dose of ibuprofen should be considered, in particular when using ibuprofen in high doses with voriconazole or fluconazole.

Sulfonylureas

NSAIDs can enhance the effect of sulfonylureas. Rare cases of hypoglycemia have been reported in patients taking simultaneously sulfonylureas and ibuprofen.

Cholestyramine

The simultaneous use of ibuprofen and cholestyramine can reduce the absorption of ibuprofen in the gastrointestinal tract. However, the clinical significance of this phenomenon is unknown.

Aminoglycosides

NSAIDs can reduce the excretion of aminoglycosides.

Herbal extracts

The simultaneous use of NSAIDs and ginkgo biloba extract may increase the risk of bleeding.

Mifepristone

Due to the antiprostaglandin properties of NSAIDs, including acetylsalicylic acid, it is theoretically possible to reduce the effectiveness of the drug. Limited evidence suggests that concomitant use of NSAIDs on the day of prostaglandin intake does not adversely affect the efficacy of mifepristone or the effect of prostaglandins on the cervix or uterine contractions, and does not reduce the clinical efficacy of medical termination of pregnancy.

Composition of the preparation

The composition of the drug Excedrin is not particularly complex. It contains three active components:

  1. Acetylsalicylic acid (250 mg / tab.).
  2. Paracetamol (250 mg / tab.).
  3. Caffeine (65 mg / tab.).

Used as auxiliary components:

  • stearic acid;
  • hyprolosis;
  • microcrystalline cellulose.

Excedrin is a drug for migraine, the therapeutic effect of which is based on a combination of several components at once. Each substance that is part of the product has certain properties and has a special effect on the human body. Together, these elements relieve unpleasant sensations, and the head will stop hurting.

Description of each component of Excedrin:

  • acetylsalicylic acid – has a large number of useful properties: it reduces inflammation, brings down body temperature, relieves pain and much more. If discomfort and discomfort are caused by inflammation, then the effect of inhibiting such reactions appears quickly due to the special influence of this element.

    Action of acetylsalicylic acid

    In addition, the aggregation of platelets decreases, the process of formation of blood clots or thrombi also slows down.Getting into the zone of inflammation, the substance improves blood microcirculation;

  • paracetamol – good pain relief, lowers temperature and inhibits inflammation. Such properties are due to the ability to affect the hypothalamus, which is the center of thermoregulation, as well as the ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins found in the fibers of peripheral tissues;
  • caffeine is a drug that can serve as a reflex stimulus to the spinal cord, as well as the respiratory system and vasomotor centers.Additionally, the substance expands the lumen of the vessels located in the muscles of the skeleton, as well as in the arteries of the heart, brain, renal region, and reduces platelet aggregation.

    Effects of caffeine

Affects human performance, both mental and physical, fights drowsiness. As part of Excedrin pain pills, this element has a weak effect on the nervous system, but normalizes the tone of the arteries in the brain, increasing blood circulation in this organ.

Treatment with such a drug allows you to eliminate migraine in a short time. Before taking any medication, it is imperative to consult a doctor, since there are certain contraindications to the remedy and side effects that can occur in humans.

What is the reason for the effect of the medication?

They drink Excedrin for migraines, but no one thinks about what happens in the human body after this pill gets there.Acetyl is absorbed into the tissues of the gastrointestinal tract in full, entering the blood and liver cells. After a while, salicylates are produced, which continue to be broken down in the liver.

When the drug is taken in the vessels, paracetamol binds to the protein compounds of the blood plasma. At normal dosage, this process is not hazardous. When this dosage is increased, the interaction between the elements of the drug and the blood will increase.

Therefore, before drinking the medicine, you need to make sure that the dose is safe, since paracetamol, if used in large quantities, can cause serious liver damage.

Caffeine is similar in its mechanism of action to acetyl – it is absorbed into the cells of the body quickly and in full, spreading throughout all its liquid areas. If you drink the substance on an empty stomach, then 10-80 minutes after ingestion, the maximum concentration of this element in the blood is observed. It easily penetrates into all parts of the digestive system, and is excreted through the kidneys.

In the case of prolonged pain that persists for more than 6 days, you must definitely go to the doctor to find the cause of this condition.

Do not forget about the possibility of drug overdose. In such a situation, a person’s well-being deteriorates sharply, vomiting, pallor of the skin, abdominal pain and many other disorders appear. This state cannot be ignored, it is life-threatening.

It is known that the negative effects that appear after taking Excedrin are rare.

In order to reduce the risk of developing such conditions, it is necessary to observe the dosage of the medication and the duration of the course of treatment. In case of an overdose, to eliminate negative symptoms, it is necessary to drink as much water as possible and induce vomiting. You can also take Enterosgel or Activated Carbon.

Special instructions and effectiveness

The body of each person has individual characteristics, therefore, it can react to the most common drug in a special way, which must be taken into account. If, after taking the Excedrin tablet, a person feels worse or have additional symptoms, you should immediately contact a medical facility.

The caffeine content in one tablet is the same as in one cup of coffee. This fact must be taken into account and it is better to refuse the use of caffeinated beverages during treatment with the drug.

Exceeding the permissible levels of caffeine leads to the development of certain disorders in the well-being and condition of a person.Such unpleasant moments can be increased irritability and nervousness, sleep disturbances, heart rhythm disorders and other manifestations.

Alcohol is incompatible with Excedrin, because with the simultaneous use of this substance in the body, the possibility of damage to the hepatic region and bleeding in the digestive system increases.

The property of acetyl acid to prevent blood clotting makes this drug banned for use by patients who are about to undergo surgery. When people drink these pills for a long time, they need to regularly examine their liver and control the composition of their blood.

The medicine for migraine Excedrin is quite effective, but it cannot be considered a panacea. Reviews of the drug are often polar:

Maria Korneeva, 45 years old: “I drink Excedrin recently. I was tormented by headaches that did not allow me to work, and indeed to live normally. I bought the drug myself at the pharmacy, the pharmacists advised. The pain began to appear less frequently, but did not completely disappear.

Maybe I’m taking the wrong pills, a small dose or something. To be honest, ordinary Citramon acts on me in the same way, reduces headaches, but not for long. Excedrin is more expensive, so I prefer not to spend extra money. ”

Vladimir Malyshev, 59 years old: “The doctor prescribed Excedrin to me when I complained to him of pain in my back and head. Judging by the diagnosis, these pills do not suit me at all and do not help much. With my neurological disease, a stronger drug is needed. Moreover, side effects appeared, everything was poured out and it was terribly nauseous. I do not advise people who have nerve problems to drink this medicine.

Irina Polushkina, 27 years old: “I am delighted with Excedrin. I have migraines since my early youth, from about 14 years old. Only recently I heard about this tool in advertising. To be honest, I did not hope for an effect, since I had already tried a bunch of drugs.

Earlier I thought that migraine could not be eliminated by anything and that you just have to endure it until the attack itself goes away.I have been using Excedrin for a month now, as soon as this terrible throbbing pain in one temple begins, I immediately drink 2 tablets of this medicine, and after 25-30 minutes I forget about the unpleasant sensations, there is no trace of them. ”

Indications for use or prescription of Excedrin include pains of different etiology and localization. Doctors often use this medication to treat migraine patients, as a result of which it is possible to reduce the intensity of such unpleasant sensations. However, it is worth remembering that in case of severe attacks, this drug is ineffective and its reception should be accompanied by the appointment of additional funds.

90,000 Review of Novartis Excedrin Pain Relief by Angelica | Angelica

So the first pack of Excedrin has been drunk, for the purity of the experiment. We look at the result: out of 16 taken pills, migraines were slowed down or stopped by 8, which is 50% (4 more pills were lost somewhere in the pockets).

I have had migraines for over 15 years. It is migraines, not headaches. Many do not distinguish one from the other. In a nutshell, with a headache, the vessels usually narrow, and with a migraine, they dilate. In practice, if triptans help you, it’s a migraine. So, as an experienced migraine sufferer who has tried every conceivable remedy, I did not really believe in the action of Excedrin, but in fact paracetamol with aspirin, of which it consists. Since both, I have already tried it separately. The fact is that you cannot eat triptans without limit, it is believed that if you take more than 10 tablets a month, then the triptan itself will provoke a migraine. Therefore, whenever possible, it is necessary to replace triptans with something at least sometimes. As a substitute, paracetamol (pure, with caffeine, with codeine, caffeine and codeine) and NSAIDs (ibuprofen and the like), or a combination thereof, are usually recommended. And then someone dodges how. For example, I drink either 1000 mg of paracetamol with 60 mg of codeine, or 400 mg of ibuprofen, and sometimes both at once, on the 3-4th day of the attack, when it seems to have already subsided. I “jump” off the triptan like drug addicts from a syringe. Efficiency about 70% (no pain or tolerable pain for more than 6 hours).Or I “catch up” with paracetamol-codeine-ibuprofen when the triptan did not work enough (here triptan + paracetamol + ibuprofen – the effectiveness is close to 100%).

That is, what we have: Excedrin 500 mg, containing 250 mg of paracetamol and 250 mg of aspirin, acts worse than paracetamol 1000 mg or ibuprofen 400 mg. But at the same time, we see that the dose of paracetamol is 4 times lower. I tried to drink 2 tablets of Excedrin – a failure. In principle, a 50% positive result is, of course, not bad.Again, provided that the pills were taken at the end of the attack, and not in full swing. But more was expected.

Finally, about the packaging. The fact that you can tear off along the dotted line and take the pill with you is definitely a plus. But the fact that to take out the pill you need to apply the force of seven heroes, since the shell is very difficult to break, is a fat minus. I do not know from what external influences paracetamol is so protected.

And I have never seen such a long instruction (for comparison – an A4 envelope, i.i.e. 210 mm)

90,000 Unregistered medicines allowed to be imported into Russia | News from Germany about Russia | DW

The law allowing to import into Russia consignments of unregistered drugs containing narcotic and psychotropic substances came into force on Sunday, March 1. At the end of December 2019, the document was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and it was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

Amendments to the Law “On Circulation of Medicines” suggest that unregistered medicines can be imported into Russia to provide assistance for vital indications. To do this, it is necessary to obtain the conclusion of the medical commission that the drugs registered in the Russian Federation are ineffective or their use is impossible.

For the first time, the law introduced clear criteria for determining the status of a drug (original drug, generic, reference drug), and also established principles by which it is possible to determine whether certain drugs are interchangeable.

In recent years, the attention of the public has been repeatedly attracted by the arrests and initiation of criminal cases in connection with the purchase by parents abroad of drugs unregistered in Russia for their sick children.
