Composition and formulation

1 coated tablet contains metronidazole 250 mg; 10 pcs in a blister, 2 blisters in a cardboard box.

1 vaginal suppository 500 mg; in a blister 5 pcs., in a cardboard box 2 blisters.

100 ml 0.5% IV solution – 500 mg; in bottles of 100 ml, in a cardboard box 25 pcs.

Pharmacological action

Pharmacokinetics

Rapidly and completely absorbed. T 1/2 – 8-10 hours, binding to plasma proteins does not exceed 10-20%. Easily penetrates into tissues (lungs, kidneys, liver, skin, bile, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, seminal fluid, vaginal secretion), into mother’s milk, overcomes the placental barrier. It is excreted by 40-70% (about 20% in unchanged form) through the kidneys.

Indications

Amoebiasis, urogenital trichomoniasis, nonspecific vaginitis, giardiasis (intestinal and hepatic), surgical infections caused by anaerobes.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Use with caution during pregnancy, stop breastfeeding during lactation.

Dosage and Administration

Are you a healthcare professional?

For amoebiasis, by mouth, 1.5 g/day in 3 doses (adults) and 30–40 mg/kg/day also in 3 doses (children) for 7 days. With giardiasis – adults – 750-1000 mg / day, children 2-5 years old – 250 mg / day, children 5-10 years old – 375 mg / day, 10-15 years old – 500 mg / day for 5 days. With trichomoniasis in women (urethritis and vaginitis) – once at a dose of 2 g or as a course of treatment for 10 days – 250 mg 2 times a day and 1 vaginal suppository per day. With trichomonas urethritis in men – once at a dose of 2 g or as a course of treatment for 10 days, 250 mg 2 times a day. With nonspecific vaginitis – 500 mg 2 times a day for a week. For anaerobic infections, adults – 1-1.5 g / day, children – at the rate of 20-30 mg / kg / day. In / in the introduction is shown only if it is impossible to take it in another way or in severe forms of the disease. 100 ml (500 mg) of the drug is administered over 30–60 minutes.

Side effects

Nausea, metallic taste in the mouth, anorexia, epigastric pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, allergic reactions (urticaria, itching), leukopenia, peripheral neuropathies; urine staining.

Compatible with sulfonamides and antibiotics. The combination with disulfiram, anticoagulants of indirect action and non-depolarizing muscle relaxants is undesirable. Incompatible with alcoholic beverages. Increases the concentration of lithium in plasma.

Precautions

Long-term treatment is preferably carried out under the control of the blood count. A false-positive Nelson test is possible because treponema is immobilized. Combine with caution with indirect anticoagulants, non-depolarizing muscle relaxants. At the time of treatment, the use of alcoholic beverages should be excluded.
