Happiness overwhelmed the Cloud. The dog jumped, somersaulted and sang merrily until he collapsed in exhaustion, and no one was surprised at this. Why? Everything is simple. The miracle happened! After endless weeks of waiting, the sparrow brought good news: Cloud’s mother was found in the city.

The next morning the dog washed himself thoroughly, combed his hair, put the map in his backpack and was about to leave the house when there was a knock on the door. Raising his eyebrows in astonishment, Cloud hurried to find out who had come at such an early hour, and when he saw his friends in full force, he was even more surprised and worried.

– Oh! Not expected. Yesterday we said goodbye. Or did something go wrong?

– Good morning. Mom baked a kulebyak for you on the road, – Zaya greeted and held out a weighty bag of pies.

– Please accept a detailed map of the city as a gift from me. Such a thing is indispensable on a journey,” the owl said solemnly and thrust a folded paper sheet into the paws of a friend.

Wishing good luck, the Fox hugged the giant and promised to dedicate a new song to Cloud’s mother. Only the duck and the bat stood quietly aside, watching the farewell ceremony. When the dog approached them, Utya asked:

Soon, Utya convinced the bat of the superiority of her favorite detective, Mrs. Martha, over the cunning Twig, and sang, pleased with herself. Utya was immediately supported by the satellites, and a wonderful trio turned out. The melody flew up to the heavens, spread through the forest, making everyone who heard it smile and echo the words of the song.

Before the dog had time to finish, everything around changed dramatically. The sky was covered with black shaggy clouds, and the sharp wind that rose with each new gust whistled more and more terribly and howled angry, gloomy melodies. When the last glimpses of the sun disappeared, a hostile leaden haze reigned.

The changes happened so quickly that the travelers were confused. Moreover, the path broke off, there was no further way.

– Simply amazing! What’s happening? Cloud, look on the map, where should we go now? Utya was puzzled.

The duck didn’t like to be idle, so she immediately left the broken path and stuck her curious nose into the thickets of hazel growing nearby. To her amazement, she found a heap of stones behind a tall bush. Without hesitation, Utya fluttered onto one of the huge boulders and saw a reservoir.

– Guys! I found the lake! Cloud, is it on the map? Uta screamed.

– Strange. There is nothing like it, – the mouse was surprised.

– Green trees! We got lost, – the dog was upset. – Looking around the area? – he turned to the Cloud, and without a word she rushed up like an arrow.

Bad weather, a mischievous old woman, interfered with the mouse with all her might, but Cloud still looked around the neighborhood. An impenetrable, dense forest stretched around without end and edge, inside which a small lake was hidden, surrounded by a fence of stones of different heights.

– Some kind of fantasy! An unknown lake appeared, and the path along which we walked disappeared! How can this be? The path calculation is correct. I checked several times,” the bat said in confusion, returning to her friends.

Large drops drummed on the foliage. The piercing wind became more and more ferocious every minute, bent the trees, driving the travelers away. A real storm was expected. All living things fell silent and hurried to hide.

– I don’t like horror like a thunderstorm! I just want to howl. We need to find a secluded place as soon as possible, – Cloud whined, but instantly stopped and forgot about his fears.

A strong gust of wind broke the hazel branches that the bat and duck were holding on to. As soon as he had time to pick up his friends, the dog sat them on his back and commanded:

– Hold on tight to the wool! You will be my navigators. And without wasting a minute, Cloud hurried to the lake.

Lost in the forest, a reservoir, picturesquely framed by stones and long stalks of coastal grass, resembled a precious ring with sapphire. At other times, travelers would certainly admire its beauty, but the storm was gaining strength every minute. Now even the big man Cloud could hardly resist the heavy gusts of wind. Moving along the stone fence, the dog was looking for a suitable shelter. Soon, luck nevertheless smiled at the travelers: in one place, the stones formed a rather spacious grotto, suitable for shelter.

– Good. Here the wind does not walk, – brushing off the droplets, the duck said when the friends ended up in the cave.

“Yes,” Cloud agreed, chattering his teeth from the cold, and began to shake off the water from his furry fur coat.

– Noooo! Wait a minute! Utya screamed in fright, looking at the giant, but she was too late. She was engulfed in such a fountain of spray that she felt like diving into a river.

– Thank you, atonement! I was lucky that the feathers do not let water through, otherwise it would dry out only after a few days, – the friend laughed.

And the mouse, as soon as it flew into the cave, not paying attention to its comrades, first of all examined the shelter. After a while, she exclaimed in surprise, pointing to a recess in the wall:

– Someone was here before us! Look, some box! I wonder what’s inside?

– Oh, Tuchenka, wait a bit. What if there is something bad and terrible? – and hastened to add, so that they would not take her for a coward: – I was not scared, but let me at least warm up. I would not want to run away after your interest, there is a serious storm behind these walls.

The mouse stopped, thoughtful: “Utya is talking business, there is a doomsday in the street. I didn’t really study the place, but here we, apparently, spend the night. She put down the box and hugged her friend affectionately:

Having neither the strength nor the desire to explore the shelter, the duck and the dog huddled in a far corner and gradually began to warm up. Poor dog! The cloud did not like what they saw very much – it smelled of witchcraft. – In the morning, which way shall we go? Cloud asked, but no one had time to answer him. Water rushed into the cave, rapidly filling the space, with a powerful stream. It seemed that an unknown force was pouring the ocean here.

The bat and the duck grabbed things and hurried to carry them as high as possible under the very vault, and the Cloud was left alone with the mad element, sweeping away everything in its path. Accepting the blows of a viciously hissing whirlpool, the unfortunate dog, digging its claws into the stone, tried with all its might to hold on to the makeshift table, but its paws slipped treacherously. The monstrous water hydra tried to suck the dog into its gluttonous gut, in order to gnaw it and throw it onto sharp ledges.

The cave was flooding with incredible speed. Only the curly head of a dog was already visible above the water, howling annoyed by the beast. The stream did not stop, and the duck panicked: if this continues, then they will not be able to pull out the heavy Cloud. Forcing herself not to think about the bad, she, resisting the onslaught of the elements, dived and pushed the giant up. The cloud was floundering, paddling with its paws, trying to keep its head above the water, but the wave that rolled again pulled the dog to the bottom. A cloud from above, Ucha from below fought for a friend, but they clearly lost the fight with a formidable enemy.

Unwilling to accept the inevitable, the Cloud frantically searched for a way to save his friend. And as a drowning man clutches at a straw, so she clutched at the thought of a recent discovery. Casket! What’s in it? After all, everything suggests that there is magic here! The mouse hurried to the place where the things lay, since the water had not yet reached there. Trembling with impatience, she hurriedly opened the box. One quick glance was enough for Cloud’s heart to sink into the abyss.

The casket was, in fact, empty, only a small piece of paper, yellowed from time to time, was pressed lonely against one of its walls. The cloud wanted to close the lid, but at the last moment changed its mind and took the scrap. Immediately, as if by a wave of a magic wand, the words on it, written in something scarlet, like blood, shone like New Year’s lanterns.

“Well… well… Boo-boo…” the shaggy friend gurgled barely audibly as he went under the water. The duckling managed to grab the giant by the withers, and then Cloud, raising his head with all his strength, whimpered with hopeless despair:

– Duck-I-I!

Already not understanding anything, the duck dived and dived like a clockwork, but the dog remained at the bottom of the cave.

– No, no, Cloud! Please! Do not give up! Cloud pleaded, already firmly believing that the note was miraculous. Her intuition did not fail her.

– I hope I’m in dog heaven? Please, don’t go to hell!

– Alive, dear, alive! Nothing hurts? – Utya asked, almost crying with happiness, and began to feel her friend. When she was convinced that the Cloud was not hurt, she attacked the bat: – Well, quickly explain everything!

After reading the note, Utya was not afraid, but chattered, indignant at the insidious fate and the behavior of her big-eared friend:

– Tasks?! Curious what? And where are these feather, bead and wool? You found them and kept quiet?! Ugliness! No justice in life: first a path, then a lake, a storm, a flood – and it all ended with unknown tasks, and not something pleasant. A mountain of sweets, for example! No, don’t wait. And how clever! You noticed?! I made only one wish, and that’s it – here are three tasks for you, dear! In fairy tales, one task is assigned for one wish, but here one to three goes! Super! Magic was just not enough for us to be completely happy!

During her friend’s monologue, the dog kept nodding, supporting her every word, and the mouse, hovering on the ledge of the grotto, blinked guiltily. The duck fell silent. Carefully examining the walls of the cave, she folded her wings on her chest and muttered in displeasure:

“Sorcery, no doubt! Around everything is written in incomprehensible squiggles. Cloud, don’t say you didn’t notice. I will not believe. Why did you hide?

– I thought we’d sleep and leave. Sorry.

– What is it?! howled Cloud and immediately offered: – Let’s wish to be at my mother’s house. How do you like the idea? And then we will deal with the tasks.

– That’s a thought! I like your suggestion. We will look for information about the lake in the city. Wow, what do you say?

– I agree. Think cloud.

From the importance of the moment, the dog closed his eyes, then took the note and said:

The trinity woke up in front of the gate of a house surrounded by dense greenery. A metal plate hanging on it read: 13 Tsvetochnaya Street.

– How is it – 13 Tsvetochnaya Street? Sparrow said that my mother lives on Gornaya, 25, – the frustrated Cloud spread his paws. – Here trust after this witchcraft charms! Oh, as if it was difficult to deliver to the address! If I knew, I would say out loud the desired street and house. Then, for an inaccurate throw, no one knows what will be demanded. Arbitrariness! I refuse to complete tasks. We will annul the contract, and we owe nothing to anyone, – the dog was inflamed.

At the last words, three large drops from the clearest blue sky fell on the dog’s nose. Cloud brushed them off and fell silent.
