All natural oils have some antioxidant effect – meaning they can help fight off the damage caused by ultraviolet light which ultimately leads to spots, age spots and wrinkles (we salute that).

Oil can aid absorption

Because oils are lipophilic, they dissolve and pass though the lipid layer of your skin more easily than water-based moisturisers, which can help stop water loss and in turn plump your skin (especially important when you’ve reached your late 30s and your wrinkles can start to look deeper as natural oils decrease – boo). This makes them especially effective for body moisturising too.

  • A little goes a long way – just two or three drops will do. You can mix it in with your usual moisturiser and voila! But remember, don’t mix your face oil with an SPF moisturiser as it can dilute the sunscreen’s effectiveness.
  • Alternatively apply the oil directly to your face (that’s the way we do it), after cleansing and toning, then follow with your usual moisturiser or serum.
  • Never rub, press the oil gently into your skin.
  • When using a body oil, apply it after a bath or shower to slightly damp skin – it’ll help lock in moisture.

What to look for when you’re buying an oil

  • Look for pure organic oils to get the most benefit.
  • As always, avoid added nasties like synthetic fragrances, often listed as “parfum” or “fragrance”, and try to opt for unscented, or scented with cold-pressed essential oils.
  • It’s important to know how your oil is extracted, because you don’t want it exposed to high temperatures or extracted using harmful chemical solvents. Cold-pressed is perfect, and CO2-extracted oils are also allowed in certified-organic products.

Many girls are afraid to use oils because of their heavy texture that easily clogs pores, but it’s how you use it that matters. For example, mineral cosmetic oils are best avoided, because they are highly comedogenic and carry the risk of oversaturation of the skin with moisture. Such oils create a fairly dense film on the skin, which, on the one hand, retains moisture, and, on the other hand, prevents the skin from “breathing” and naturally cleansing, which also leads to clogged pores and inflammation. It is extremely important to choose a natural oil that is right for you, that is, focus on the type of skin and its needs.

How to use face oil?

Various natural oils are suitable for use on the face: jojoba, olive, almond, wheat germ, rosehip, avocado, grape seed, coconut oil, etc. By the way, it is jojoba oil that perfectly removes makeup and cleanses the skin, because it is an excellent fat and dirt dissolver.

Moisten cotton pads with water and apply a few drops of oil, wipe face until make-up is removed. Next, wash your face as usual with your favorite gel/foam. If you remove eye makeup, be prepared for the formation of a characteristic “film”.

Method #1: neat

The oil itself should be applied to clean, damp skin. This will ensure even distribution of the product, as well as help retain moisture in the skin. Remember that applying oil to dry skin can lead to overdrying of the epidermis.

Method #2: oil + skincare

If you want to combine oil with your skin care products, water-based cream must be applied before oil, as water will not be able to penetrate the oil layer and the action of the cream substance will be ineffective. An oil-based cream can be applied both before and after applying the oil. In this way, it will be able to deeply saturate the skin and enrich it with its beneficial properties ( see also : “How to apply skin care products to enhance their effect”).

The oil must be warm. Put 2-3 drops on the palm of your hand and warm between them. Then apply with light pressing on the face and lightly rub along the massage lines. If there is a pipette in the jar, be sure to make sure that it does not touch the skin – she does not need extra microbes.

Facial oil massage is one of the most pleasant and effective beauty rituals for the winter period. One of the options for moisturizing the face is oil masks. After steaming your face, apply oil on it, and then place a very warm, damp towel on it. Keep for 10 minutes, then cleanse your face.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that facial oils can only be used for dry skin types. Oil face masks are very easy to use. You just need to slightly warm it, if necessary, and apply to the skin. After 20-30 minutes, the remnants are removed with a napkin with gentle absorbent movements. If you didn’t follow the time a little and overexposed the mask on your face, nothing bad will happen. (Or you can apply the mask to cleansed, damp skin and cover your face with a cotton towel slightly dampened with clean warm water).

Auxiliary oils are not recommended to be applied to the skin in a pure, undiluted form. Use another foundation oil – any base oil that suits your skin type. By the way, this way the effect will be even better – oils in combinations only multiply their properties.
