The Rise of Organic Body Oils in Skincare

Organic body oils have gained significant popularity in recent years, particularly among those who prioritize natural skincare solutions. Unlike traditional lotions and creams, these oils offer a pure and potent way to deliver moisture and nutrients directly to the skin. But why have they become such a staple in many people’s skincare routines?

Organic body oils are often preferred by skincare enthusiasts for several reasons:

  • They are free from synthetic additives and preservatives
  • They provide concentrated nourishment without dilution
  • Many offer additional benefits beyond simple hydration
  • They can be more environmentally friendly due to minimal packaging

As we explore the world of organic body oils, we’ll discover why they might be the missing piece in your skincare regimen and how they can transform your skin’s health and appearance.

Understanding the Benefits of Organic Body Oils

Organic body oils offer a myriad of benefits that set them apart from conventional moisturizers. These natural elixirs are packed with essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants that work in harmony with your skin’s natural processes. But what makes them so effective?

The key advantages of using organic body oils include:

  1. Deep hydration without clogging pores
  2. Improved skin elasticity and firmness
  3. Protection against environmental stressors
  4. Enhanced absorption of nutrients
  5. Potential reduction in the appearance of scars and stretch marks

One of the most significant benefits is the absence of water in these formulations. May Lindstrom, a natural beauty product developer, explains, “When you’re using creams or lotions, you’re getting a diluted product: oil, plus water, plus preservatives. Frankly, I don’t want you to be putting your dollars into paying for water when your shower takes care of that quite nicely.”

How to Properly Apply Organic Body Oils

The application technique for organic body oils can significantly impact their effectiveness. To maximize the benefits, follow these expert-recommended steps:

  1. Step out of the shower with your skin still damp
  2. Apply the oil immediately to lock in moisture
  3. Gently massage the oil into your skin using upward strokes
  4. Allow the oil to absorb before dressing

This method, championed by both May Lindstrom and Osmia founder Sarah Villafranco, MD, ensures that the water on your skin acts as a carrier, driving the oils and nutrients deep into your skin. This technique also helps the oil absorb faster, dispelling the myth that body oils leave you feeling greasy all day.

Organic Body Oils vs. Traditional Lotions: A Comparison

When it comes to moisturizing, many people automatically reach for a lotion. However, organic body oils offer several advantages over their creamy counterparts. Let’s break down the key differences:

Organic Body OilsTraditional Lotions
Pure, concentrated ingredientsOften diluted with water and fillers
No preservatives neededTypically contain preservatives
Deeper penetration into skinMay sit on the skin’s surface
Often multifunctional (skin, hair, nails)Usually designed for specific use
Minimal packagingOften comes in plastic containers

While lotions have their place, many skincare experts argue that organic body oils provide superior nourishment. They deliver concentrated nutrients directly to the skin without the need for artificial preservatives or fillers.

The Science Behind Organic Body Oils

Understanding the science behind organic body oils can help us appreciate their effectiveness. These natural products work in harmony with our skin’s biology, offering benefits that go beyond simple hydration.

Key scientific aspects of organic body oils include:

  • Similarity to skin’s natural sebum, allowing for better absorption
  • High concentration of essential fatty acids that support skin barrier function
  • Presence of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) that nourish skin cells
  • Antioxidant properties that combat free radical damage

The molecular structure of these oils allows them to penetrate deeper into the skin compared to water-based products. This means they can deliver nutrients to the deeper layers of the epidermis, promoting long-lasting hydration and skin health.

Customizing Your Organic Body Oil Routine

One of the beauties of organic body oils is their versatility. You can easily customize your skincare routine to address specific concerns or adapt to changing seasons. Here are some ways to personalize your body oil regimen:

Layering for Intense Hydration

For extremely dry skin or during harsh winter months, try layering your body oil. Apply a lightweight oil first, followed by a richer formulation to lock in moisture.

Mixing with Essential Oils

Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your base body oil to create a custom aromatherapy experience. Lavender can be calming for nighttime use, while citrus oils can be invigorating for morning applications.

Seasonal Adjustments

Switch up your body oil based on the season. Lighter oils like grapeseed or jojoba work well in summer, while richer oils like avocado or coconut are perfect for winter hydration.

Targeted Treatment

Use specific oils for targeted concerns. For example, rosehip oil is excellent for reducing the appearance of scars, while argan oil can help with skin elasticity.

By tailoring your organic body oil routine, you can address your unique skin needs while enjoying the luxurious experience of natural skincare.

Sustainable and Ethical Considerations in Organic Body Oils

As consumers become more conscious of their environmental impact, the sustainability and ethical sourcing of organic body oils have come into focus. When choosing a body oil, consider the following aspects:

  • Sourcing practices of the brand
  • Fair trade certifications
  • Packaging materials and recyclability
  • Company’s commitment to sustainability

Many organic body oil brands prioritize sustainable harvesting methods and support local communities. For instance, argan oil production has become a significant source of income for women’s cooperatives in Morocco. By choosing ethically sourced oils, you’re not only benefiting your skin but also supporting sustainable practices and fair labor.

Additionally, look for brands that use recyclable or biodegradable packaging to minimize environmental impact. Some companies even offer refill programs to reduce waste further.

Incorporating Organic Body Oils into Your Wellness Routine

Organic body oils can be more than just a moisturizing treatment; they can become an integral part of your overall wellness routine. Here are some ways to incorporate these nourishing oils into your daily life:

Post-Workout Recovery

After exercise, apply a light body oil to soothe tired muscles and replenish moisture lost through sweating. Oils with anti-inflammatory properties, like calendula or chamomile-infused formulations, can be particularly beneficial.

Mindful Massage

Use your body oil application time as a moment for mindfulness. As you massage the oil into your skin, practice deep breathing and focus on the sensations. This can turn a simple skincare routine into a calming ritual.

Aromatherapy Benefits

Choose body oils with natural scents that align with your mood or needs. Lavender can promote relaxation, while rosemary might enhance mental clarity. The olfactory experience can complement the physical benefits of the oil.

Nighttime Ritual

Incorporate a body oil massage into your bedtime routine. The act of massaging oil into your skin can help you unwind, while the nourishing properties work overnight to rejuvenate your skin.

By integrating organic body oils into various aspects of your daily life, you can enhance both your skincare results and overall well-being.

Addressing Common Concerns About Organic Body Oils

Despite their many benefits, some people hesitate to try organic body oils due to certain misconceptions. Let’s address some common concerns:

Will body oils make my skin feel greasy?

While it’s a common worry, most high-quality organic body oils are formulated to absorb quickly without leaving a greasy residue. The key is to apply them to damp skin and use the right amount for your skin type.

Are organic body oils suitable for acne-prone skin?

Contrary to popular belief, many organic oils can be beneficial for acne-prone skin. Oils like jojoba and grapeseed are lightweight and non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog pores. Some oils, like tea tree, even have antibacterial properties that can help combat acne.

How long do organic body oils last?

Most organic body oils have a shelf life of 6-12 months when stored properly. To extend their lifespan, keep them in a cool, dark place and avoid contamination by using clean hands or a pump dispenser.

Can I use body oils if I have sensitive skin?

Many organic body oils are gentle enough for sensitive skin. Look for single-ingredient oils or blends specifically formulated for sensitive skin. It’s always a good idea to patch test a new product before full application.

By understanding these aspects of organic body oils, you can make an informed decision about incorporating them into your skincare routine and enjoy their numerous benefits with confidence.

12 Best organic body oils you need to try| Well+Good

Is this you? You spend tons of time researching, testing, and obsessing over the best skin-care oils for your face (and are often willing to invest some serious cash in the right one, too), but then kind of ignore your skin from the neck down? (Guilty.)

Those who are a step ahead on the moisturizing game (the French, the organic beauty obsessed), however, are crazy into body oils: They’re the purest and most potent way to deliver high-quality moisturizing goodness straight to your skin, say formulators and fans.

May Lindstrom, a veteran natural beauty product developer, may be body oil’s head cheerleader. “When you’re using creams or lotions, you’re getting a diluted product: oil, plus water, plus preservatives,” she explains. “Frankly, I don’t want you to be putting your dollars into paying for water when your shower takes care of that quite nicely.”

Her application technique—also championed by Osmia founder Sarah Villafranco, MD—is simple.  First, step out of the shower with your skin still soaked; then, apply your oils immediately. [Water on your skin] is the perfect carrier to drive gorgeous oils and nutrients deep into your skin, they say, helping it to soak in much faster. So, myth busted, you don’t have to worry about getting it all over your hair, clothes and anything else you touch.

Still feeling loyal to your Lubriderm? Many drugstore lotions use alcohol and preservatives which end up further drying out already thirsty skin, so watch out for those. “I prefer to skip all this and get straight to the good stuff,” says Lindstrom (hence the name of her own body oil).

Related Stories

Here, we’ve assembled 12 of the least greasy, most deliciously moisturizing body oils around. They’re so awesome, in fact, that you just might be convinced to kick your lotion habit for good.

For this oil, MyHavtorn blended its signature firming and antioxidant-rich sea buckthorn oil with rapeseed, sesame, safflower, and avocado oils. And despite how lush the combination feels, it soaks in quickly, making it a great oil to use after a morning shower. Plus, it has a gingery scent (thanks to a blend of lemongrass, rosemary, juniper, and ylang ylang oils) that is uplifting and energizing.

This oil is a bit of a luxury, but True Nature Botanicals is definitely worth the splurge. It’s formulated with apricot kernel, sesame seed and watermelon seed oils so it goes on ultra-light and helps to plump cells, restore skin’s elasticity, and form a protective barrier to lock moisture in. Plus, it’s scented with tuberose, neroli, rosewood, and star jasmine, so it leaves a subtle floral fragrance on your skin (a body oil and perfume in one!).

Rich in omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, sweet almond oil moisturizes while cherry seed oil nourishes the skin from the outside in. (Keep this in your bag as an on-the-go hand and cuticle treatment.) Aura Cacia’s new line of fruit seed oils also includes one with blueberry seed oil, perfect for after-sun recovery.

If you’ve got stubborn sun damage or stretch marks that you’re looking to heal, this soothing serum delivers. It’s got a special Moroccan olive oil rich in polyphenols (which are anti-inflammatory and packed with antioxidants), along with detoxifying cucumber seed oil and prickly pear seed oil for “faster” skin cell turnover. The best part, though, is that it gives your skin an all-over golden glow, making it the perfect oil to apply before a night out.

By now, we all know the many benefits (and myriad uses) of coconut oil. It’s a potent moisturizer, a non-toxic eye make-up remover, great alternative to shaving cream—and it tastes great in your stir fry. (Just saying.) Cocovit’s coconut oil is made with ultra-fresh Indian coconuts and is totally organic. Apply it liberally to your body for seriously smooth, conditioned skin and if a little gets in your hair…lucky you, it’s a natural conditioner, too.

While some body oils are utilitarian, others are best reserved for special moments. Such is the case with Jiva Apoha’s beautiful healing oils, infused with seriously good vibes from Brooklyn founder Angela Shore. Amma, made with sesame and sunflower oils and combined with sandalwood, palmarosa, and jasmine essential oils, is meant to honor the “nurturing and protective feminine spirit.” Use this before meditation or when you need a little love during a long workday or times when you’re able to set an intention for your morning beauty ritual.

There are a few things to love about this oil, first of which is the chic packaging that will look great on your bathroom counter. Of course, there’s also the fact that it is formulated with camellia flower oil (high in omega-6s and omega-9s said to increase skin’s elasticity and promote a healthy glow), grapeseed oil (high in linoleic acid and vitamins to help tone and tighten skin), and jasmine sambac oil (which deeply moisturizes and boosts elasticity…while also providing an intoxicating fragrance).

Made from a combination of sunflower, camellia seed, argan, avocado, and shea oils, this luxe Osmia concoction is majorly moisturizing (and made by a genius MD, Sarah Villafranco). However, what makes it particularly special are the high-vibe, therapeutic essential oils that scent it. Spicy ginger and cardamom mix with organic (and rare) rose otto and vetiver for a scent that’s both grounding and energizing. It’s also a natural aphrodisiac…just sayin’.

While many of the other oils on this list are designed to energize, this one from Indie Lee is all about relaxation. Made with fast-absorbing jojoba oil (known for being closest to the skin’s natural sebum), this soothing blend is perfect to apply to sore, tired muscles or to help you chill out after a long day. Bonus: it’s an all-purpose oil that can be used on hair, face and body. And the scent is not a bit floral, which is great for those not looking for anything too girly or heady.

The first thing you’ll notice about this handmade, ultra-concentrated oil is the delicious scent of sweet almonds mixed with uplifting citrus notes. The second thing? The insane velvety texture created by the combination of moisture-locking jojoba and baobab seed oils, plus omega-rich echium and chia seed oils, which help reduce inflammation—so it’s also a practical purchase for those with freak-out prone skin and shaving irritations.

For a body oil that will get the job done (and not break the bank), S.W. Basics should be your pick. In the unscented version, the mix of sesame, macadamia, and avocado oils means that it smells deliciously light and nutty (like peanut butter, in a good way). There’s also a lemongrass option that is lovely and refreshing. The ultra-simple blend (combined with its ability to penetrate deep) makes this one a budget-friendly choice that feels like a splurge.

For treat-yourself moments, May Lindstrom truly knows what she’s doing. A super rich and decadent body treatment combining hard-working oils like jojoba, macadamia, and sea buckthorn (plus aromatic extras like cocoa, ylang ylang, and rose absolute), this is the product to have on hand when you want to dole out some self-love in the form of a body care ritual. Lindstrom calls this her “fabric-free lingerie”—trust us, your skin will thank you.

Now that you’re well-versed on body oil, here’s how to wash your face with cleansing oil, choose the right facial treatment oil (Kate Middleton loves this one), and apply it like a pro.

The Best Natural Body Oils

This post has been months in the making. If you watch my empties videos on YouTube you know that one of the products I go through the fastest is natural body oils. That’s because I use a ton of it every.single.day. I am convinced I have the world’s driest skin. If I don’t use body oil after I shower I get super itchy and flakey. It’s a life-long battle but thankfully body oil almost always does the trick! I asked you guys if you wanted to hear about my love of body oil and the best natural body oils and you guys gave me a resounding yes. So with that, my obsession with body oils is being put to good use…Let’s chat!

Body Oil vs. Body Lotion

Let’s break down the differences between body lotion and body oil… Lotion is made up of water, oil and an emollient to hold the mixture together. It’s mostly water and because of that, it needs a preservative because bacteria can grow in water. Lotion penetrates the skin because of the water content. Body oil on the other hand is just oil. No preservatives or emollients are needed so there are generally less ingredients in body oils. Body oil seals in the moisture rather than penetrating the skin. But not all body oils are created equal…a discussion on all natural body oils below.

Why use a body oil?

If you feel like you lather on lotion every night but your skin is still dry, it might be time to switch to a body oil. Like I said, lotion absorbs into the skin while body oil seals your skin and can help improve the natural barrier. The best way to use a body oil is to apply it on damp/wet skin. The body oil will lock in the moisture that is already on your skin.

Ingredients to Look For

Not all natural body oils are created equal, however they’re generally more effective than body lotions (as discussed above). Some oils are better than others so we’re listing some of the best body oil ingredients to look for in your products:

Almond Oil – Almond oil is an amazing oil for the skin (and scalp!) It helps prevent water loss from the skin and is extremely hydrating. It’s packed with vitamin E which can help protect the skin from sun damage, aging, and stretch marks. (Source)

Evening Primose Oil – Helps to balance fatty acids on your skin and is super moisturizing. More often than not, I see evening primose oil in face oils but it is a great ingredient for body oil as well. Some have reported mild irritation with this oil so it’s recommended to spot test before coating your whole body! (Source)

Sunflower Oil – Sunflower oil is also packed with vitamin E. Studies have shown that it helps maintain the skin’s barrier and can help heal wounds. Look for organic, cold-pressed oil if you can! (Source)

Grapeseed Oil – The base of my current favorite body oil. Grapeseed oil can help improve your elasticity, even out skin tone and can protect your skin from sun damage. Again, packed with vitamin E (seeing a theme here?!) and vitamin C to protect your skin. (Source)

Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil is a super common oil used in both facial and body oils. It promotes wound healing and can help with different skin issues like dryness and itching. (Source)

You also can’t go wrong with coconut oil! It can just be a tad greasy so try not to overdo it.

Best Natural Body Oil : Gurl Gone Green

Sharing the best natural body oil products in this post!  I’ve been testing and testing for quite some time and I’ve rounded out the best of the best when it comes to natural body oil products.  I have luxe options as well as some budget friendly options that won’t break the bank.  Before we dive into my top recommendations I wanted to share the importance of choosing a natural body oil.

Often people assume a body oil contains just a few random natural oils and there isn’t much to be concerned about.  It’s true that a body oil contains much simpler ingredients than a body lotion. A body oil doesn’t typically require a preservative because it doesn’t contain water. However, some companies might include a preservative in the oil when it’s diluted with water.  This is a red flag in my opinion when you see water in a body oil as it’s not a true oil moisturizer and usually is a cheaper body oil that’s trying to cut corners.  When you add water to formulas it poses the risk of bacteria growing that is why you see preservatives always in a body lotion, more than a body oil since body lotions contain water.  Unless you’re actively reading the labels of all your products, body oil can actually contain a list of harmful ingredients you don’t want to be slathering on your body everyday.

For me that’s where the real harm comes in.  The consistency in which you use a product.  When you’re using a body oil everyday, the toxic load can build up.  This can have a big impact on your overall health if you’re not careful.  Since body oil and body lotion is applied on a large portion of our bodies, the exposure can be that much greater due to the surface area.  Add that in with how a body oil is applied everyday and you’ve got a recipe for harmful chemicals to build up.

According to the CDC:

Dermal absorption is the transport of a chemical from the outer surface of the skin both into the skin and into the body. Studies show that absorption of chemicals through the skin can occur without being noticed by the worker, and in some cases, may represent the most significant exposure pathway. -CDC

I think we often think about exposure in terms of food or even cleaning chemicals, but not the everyday products we put on our skin- like body oil.  This can present a problem as these are the products we are literally touching with are hands and applying to our bodies everyday.  As you can see, the importance of reading labels becomes even more important when it comes to our beauty products.

You may have heard the quote:

Your skin absorbs 60% of whatever we put on it.

Some say it’s not exactly 60% others say more.  Whatever exact number it is, we know one thing is for sure, our body does absorb some of what we put on it.  There have even been studies done on the umbilical cords of newborn babies that have found over 200 harmful pollutants and chemicals in the umbilical cord according to the Environmental Working Group.

In a study spearheaded by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) in collaboration with Commonweal, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in U.S. hospitals. Tests revealed a total of 287 chemicals in the group. The umbilical cord blood of these 10 children, collected by Red Cross after the cord was cut, harbored pesticides, consumer product ingredients, and wastes from burning coal, gasoline, and garbage. -EWG

Are bells going off in your head?  Did you see where they found consumer product ingredients in the umbilical cord?  Pretty crazy.  That means not only did the products the mother applied to your body, cross her skin, but all the way into the umbilical cord.  There are many chemicals made today that are specifically put in a product because it helps other ingredients penetrate even further into your skin.  Let’s deep dive into some of the ingredients you don’t want to see in your body oil or body lotion.

Ingredients to avoid in body oil-

  • Parabens-(This includes methyl-, propyl- ethyl-,butyl-) Pretty common in most skincare products.  Hormone disruptor also known as endocrine disruptor.  Has been found in breast cancer tumors, may cause male infertility and early puberty. They are added to body lotions to help preserve the product.
  • Petroleum/Mineral Oil- Reports they are cancer-causing. Can be found in body oil products and lotions. Can cause skin irritation from rashes and has been linked to cancer.
  • Fragrance- Can cause photo-toxic reactions and can be photo-allergic.  Skin irritant, and has been known as a neurotoxin. Can really be found in anything if you don’t read the label but especially common in body oil and lotion.  This word alone can contain up to 700 chemicals.  The FDA doesn’t regulate it, all they ask is that companies list fragrance.  With fragrance also comes phthalates
  • Propylene Glycol & PEG’s-(This includes -4, -6, -8…etc) Has been found to be contaminated with 1, 4 dioxane, which is cancer causing.  Can cause acne, skin irritant. This ingredient actually helps other ingredients penetrate your skin more.  So not only are you getting exposed to this harmful chemical but you’re also helping other harmful chemicals dive deeper into your skin!
  • BHA & BHT– Are known hormone disruptors, carcinogen, and have been linked to liver damage.  They are in body oil products or lotion to preserve the product.
  • Canola Oil- Now this might not be toxic to your body topically but most canola oil produced is genetically modified(GMO) and is inflammatory when ingested.  I’ve seen this on so called natural brands.  If you see this on a label be weary of a company.  This is cheap way to produce a body oil.  Who wants to be rubbing GMO’s all over their skin?  Not me!
  • Stearalkonium Chloride– Reproductive toxicity, potential negative effects on the nervous system and cause irritation to the skin and eyes.
  • FD&C Dyes(artificial dyes)- This is a little bit of a grey area.  I wanted to address it because I’ve actually seen artificial dyes in body products and it concerns me.  I do use some products with artificial dyes, however it’s only with makeup- a body lotion does not need color!  But again it’s important to know the sourcing and to consider the amount.  Many makeup colors cannot be made without the use of synthetic colors.  The amount in most formulations is literally less than 1%- if you think of how big a tube of lipstick is that means the formulation contains less than 1% of synthetic color.  I’m ok with a little synthetic color.   I know some people aren’t.  You have to make that decision for yourself.  I wanted to bring it up because I don’t want to be rubbing synthetic dyes over my whole body- there’s no need.  The reason it’s in makeup is because it serves a purpose.

Body Oil Vs. Body Lotion + Application-

Now you might wonder why you should use a body oil over a body lotion, or what the difference is?  Allow me to explain.  A body oil is similar to what are own skin naturally produces to hydrate our skin. It basically mimics our own skin oils, so as we apply body oils to our skin.  An oil is best after you shower and your skin is still slightly damp.  It will help lock in moisture and really seal it in. If water isn’t on your skin when you apply an oil it will likely sit on top of the skin and feel greasy.  That’s why it’s important to add an oil to slightly damp skin.  Also, be sure you’re not using too much!  Often people complain of greasy skin after applying a body oil but it’s because they’ve applied too much.  A little goes a long way when using a body oil.

A lotion is going to penetrate the skin deeper because of the water content in them.  As they go deeper into the skin they are able to bring other nutrients with them.  It really comes down to personal preference on whether you prefer a body oil or body lotion.  I like using a combination of both.

Also, different oils are meant to do different things for the skin.  Some absorb more easily, others can take a little more time.  Bottom line is not every oil is created equal.  Body oils can also be very relaxing and calming too.  Many of them contain essential oils that help to calm and soothe the skin.  A body oil can also repair the skin too.  Many oils are known for helping to fade hyperpigmentation, stretch marks and redness.  Body oils can also be used as a natural perfume.  Many of them contain essential oils and as the essential oils are diffused in the oil it really prolongs their scent, compared to if the essential oils were by themselves.  This is one of my favorite ways to add a little scent to myself without spritzing on a traditional perfume.  It is lighter overall.

Best Body Oils For Skin-

What are the best body oils for your skin?  I get this question a lot.  There are definitely some oils that are made specifically for the skin.

  • Jojoba Oil- This oil is so similar to our bodies own oils that it’s a perfect skincare oil.  A very hydrating oil, plus it contains Vitamin E too.  This oil is also non-comedogenic so it’s not going to clog your pores.
  • Rosehip Oil- This oil is naturally very soothing. It contains both Vitamins C and A.  It helps reduce redness, help fight sun damage, and brightens skin.
  • Argan Oil- Known for evening oil skin tone, hydrating, help improve overall elasticity.  Good for stretch marks and scars.
  • Sesame Oil- It’s anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, also an oil filled with antioxidants.  Vitamin E is rich in sesame oil which can help with free radical damage from environmental factors.
  • Avocado Oil- Rich in chlorophyll which naturally brightens the skin.  Very hydrating and helps relieve inflammation.  Also, can speed up wound healing.
  • Olive Oil- Great for sensitive skin.  It is rich in fatty acids, it is a natural humectant that draws moisture to your skin. Contains antioxidants Vitamin E and K.
  • Sunflower Seed Oil- Contains stearic acids which are great for toning and tightening the skin. Great for sensitive skin and very hydrating.
  • Almond Oil- Has Vitamins, A, E and B which help to help to seal moisture into the skin.  Very hydrating and nourishing oil.  It also is anti-inflammatory and can help reduce puffiness around the eye area.  Also, great for skin tone.
  • Macademia Nut Oil- A great rich oil that doesn’t feel greasy, melts right into the skin.  Also, anti-inflammatory.  It has linoleic acid in it which helps to restore skin’s barrier function.

This is definitely one of my very favorites.  I’ve gone through several bottles and I’m always sad when it’s gone.  If you’re into luxe products then you need to snag some Osmia Night Body Oil.  A blend of lavender, chamomile and cedar wood overtake your senses.  It’s meant to be applied after you shower on damp skin and at night.  The combination of the essential oils help you drift off into a blissful sleep.  With a combination of almond oil, jojoba, rosehip seed oil and hemp- to name a few, this oil will take your skin to a new level of hydration and tone in a couple weeks.  I can’t get enough!  I also love how they have small bottle- perfect for travel.  If you prefer to have an essential oil free body oil, check out their Naked version.  Equally delectable but free of any scent but the oils.  Get them here.

Maya Chia The Revitalizer-

This body oil smells heavenly.  I apply it right after the shower and it soaks right into my skin.  The moisture lasts too!  My skin feels hydrated throughout the day.  Did I mention the packaging?  Dark glass pump bottle-swoon worthy. I do love that it comes in a dark glass bottle as it protects the oils from light.  I’ve been using this non-stop and can’t get enough. I love how I smell afterwards, a mixture of rose and neroli, but not strong at all.  This oil really contains ALL the things!  From essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins- it helps to protect, hydrate and tone your skin all at once.  Get it here.

Pure Radiance Body Oil

I’m obsessed with this body oil!  It literally is so luxurious.  It smells like sandalwood, cedarwood and orange.  I love how it comes in a pump form- easy application.  It is filled with so many antioxidants and fatty acids that make this a power packed oil, while at the same time a very nourishing and hydrating oil.  But get this- it doesn’t feel greasy, not at all!  It glides on your skin effortlessly but doesn’t leave that slimy feeling.  Once you try it, you’ll be hooked!  A great natural perfume too. Grab it here!

Khus Thus Body Wax-

Can I be honest, I really thought I had tried all the body oils/lotions out there…then I tried this body wax by Khus+Khus and I was quickly mistaken.  This isn’t like a typical liquid oil, but comes in a wax form that melts into an oil when applied to the skin.  I love the texture!  First off it smells amazing.  I’m not into super fragrant products and this product is the perfect balance(I tried the Bleu Body Wax).  With ingredients of blue tansy, and blue yarrow this wax is perfect for helping with inflamed skin, as both are anti-inflammatory.  The Blue Tansy is especially great for bringing relief to tired sore muscles, strains, etc. If you have eczema or irritated skin, this is a great way to soothe your skin. A little goes a long way.  It instantly absorbs into your skin, no greasy feeling and leaves you hydrated the whole day.  I have to say the wax is really more of an experience from start to finish.  It awakens me in the morning and soothes me at night.  I can’t get enough!  Plus, can we talk about the luxe packaging?  It’s housed in a dark glass jar.  Get it here.

Khus Khus Body Serum-

This is another product from Khus Khus and smells amazing!  I love Blue Tansy if you can’t tell.  An amazing oil that really helps to calm and soothe the skin.  This soaks right into the skin and leave my skin feeling hydrated for days!  It makes me feel overall calmer when I use it too.  Blue Tansy just has that affect on me.  I can’t get enough of it.  It feels very rich, especially great if you have very dry skin and it’s sensitive or prone to redness.  This will help to calm and soothe it.  Get it here.

Max & Me Circle Of Protection Body Oil-

It’s a body oil, but it’s hard to even call it “just” a body oil.  It really is something so much more.  The ingredients include some of the best organic oils.  From argan, rosehip, marula and magnolia, just to name a few.  The oil is thicker in consistency but not greasy feeling at all.  It goes on smooth and doesn’t leave a weird residue.  Your skin feels perfectly hydrated and not wet feeling.  I have to tell you about the smell-so wonderful!  With notes of jasmine, geranium, and rose that literally awaken your senses and uplift you.  I’ve done through two bottles.  It’s so good!  A serious skin luxury. Get it here.

Leven Rose Rosehip Seed Oil-

This is actually one of the very first organic oils I ever bought when transitioning to natural beauty over 10 years ago.  It isn’t expensive yet it does the job and does it well.  With one singular oil, it isn’t complicated, but a simple oil that leaves your skin feeling hydrated and not greasy.  Jojoba oil is such a great oil to use on the skin too, as it’s the closest oil to what your skin naturally produces.  What makes this jojoba oil great too is it’s cold pressed, so they’re not using heat to extract it, so the oil is left intact.  Better yet you can get it from Amazon!  Get it here.

African Botanics Marula Firming Botanical Oil-

I started using this after my third baby and let’s just say I noticed a difference after using it!  Any other mamas want a little firming action post baby?  Yeah, me too.  Marula oil is known for it’s tightening and firming abilities.  This marula oil is wild harvested and then cold-pressed, keeping the oil intact.  The combination of the marula oil, plus the pinotage grapeseed oil gives your skin a serious dose of skin firming help by addressing skin dryness, aging, slackness and elasticity.  It’s a one-two punch for your skin!  I applied this after showering while my skin was still damp and massaged in circular motions.  It really helped to plump up my skin, but didn’t feel greasy.  This would be a great gift for any new mom!  Get it here.

Free + True Body Prophet

It wouldn’t be right not to include this product in the best body oil, even though it’s technically not a body oil!  Obsessed with it!  They actually call it a body serum.  In my mind it’s a cross between a body oil and a lotion- it’s like a creamy lotion/oil.  Whatever, you want to call it, it’s so good.  I was introduced to the brand in a Beauty Heroes box this year and fell in love with the product.  For a beauty blogger to go through a product you know it’s a big deal!  I literally am currently scraping the bottom of the bottle- it’s that good.  I love how it comes in a glass pump bottle, makes it so easy for application.  I also love how it smells.  Such a light scent, nothing overwhelming.  Plus, it has antioxidants that help to protect your skin.  The overall feel is so lightweight.  It absorbs instantly into the skin and doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue.  I want another bottle stat!  If you’re looking for a new body lotion- this is it.  Get it here!

OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil–

This body oil is full of antioxidants!  It has Undaria seaweed which is then mixed with a ton of skin loving oils like açaí, babassu and passion fruit.  This combination helps to smooth and firm skin from stretch marks, as well as tone your skin.  It doesn’t feel too heavy or greasy.  It absorbs nicely into the skin.  The Algae alone is soaked in barrels for 6 months in order to extract all the rich vitamins and minerals from it.  It’s basically a living oil that transforms and treats your skin!  It feels very energizing too with an overall citrus scent.  Great for in the morning after your shower and you want a little zesty pick me up!  Get it here.

OSEA Anti-Aging Body Balm

This is another favorite body product of OSEA!  It is the perfect mix of a serum and a lotion.  So while it technically may not be a “body oil” it’s technically not a body lotion either.  Plus, it’s too good to not share! You get the hydrating benefits of a lotion but also the anti-aging benefits of a serum.  The best of both worlds- who doesn’t want that?  Coconut oil and Gigartina Seaweed help give the skin it’s elasticity, while Alaria Seaweed gives the skin a tighter feeling all over.  Plus, you get a full range of antioxidants in the lotion, Omega-fatty acids and sea minerals.  It takes your skin to the next level.  I love knowing I’m being proactive about my skin and helping it age gracefully.  I apply it on my skin while it’s still slightly damp after showering.  It has an almost tart sweet smell to it, which I love!  The essential oils in it are passionfruit, jasmine, lavender, and rosemary.  Get it here!

Agent Nateur holi(Body) Ageless Body Serum-

This body serum is unlike any body serum I’ve used in the past.  It is filled with superpower ingredients from argan, jojoba, rosehip, rose, sandalwood and so many more.  It doesn’t feel greasy when applied!  I repeat doesn’t feel greasy when applied.  Not only does it help to restore moisture balance but it also helps to tone and firm the skin with caffeine and theobromine.  I love that the scent isn’t too powerful. You get notes of rose mainly with hints of sandalwood mixed in.  Your skin will feel all kinds of soft when using this after you shower!  Get it here.

Detox Mode All Together Oil-

This oil is a newer find for me.  It comes in plastic, which I’m not crazy about but I do like the oil and the price isn’t as steep as the others.  A nice option, especially on a budget or if you’re traveling and don’t want to take glass.  It also comes in a spray form which I love.  It feels light on the skin and absorbs quickly.  I like the scent, a mixture of citrus, twig and cardamom, it is a great scent for wearing as a natural perfume.  It really lingers and makes me feel fresh all day.  It has blend of macadamia, jojoba and grapeseed oils.  Taking your skin’s hydration to the next level!  A great morning oil after you shower to wake you up and get you smelling fresh!  Get it here.

I hoped this help you find a natural body oil that you love!

Natural Body Oil | Pure Grade Essential Oils Blend

Body oils offer a luxurious and indulgent way to moisturize the skin. Not only do they make the skin feel soft to the touch, but they also prevent moisture loss to give you hydrated skin from the inside out.

After showering, our skin can often feel tight. Most people reach for either a body oil or body lotion to soothe and hydrate. These oils have gorgeous fragrances that can prolong the scent of your body wash and offer a pleasant scent that lasts through the day.

If you choose a body oil infused with essential oils, the fragrance can leave you feeling more balanced. Different scents offer varying mental benefits. Herby scents like basil can help you feel more grounded and alleviate stress.

Citrusy scents like grapefruit energize you and make your feel more awake, making them perfect for after your morning shower. Warm scents like nutmeg uplift your mood and go deep into the skin to relieve joint and muscular pain. Cool scents like peppermint are refreshing and give the skin a pleasant tingly sensation.

The scents and physical benefits of these essentials oils make them ideal for massages. However, regular essential oils need to be mixed with a carrier oil that makes them difficult to use. With a body oil, there’s no need to do any prior preparation. Simply pick it up and start your massage, whether you’re treating a loved one or doing it as part of a post-workout routine.

Here at Way of Will, all our natural body oils are infused with essential oils and nourishing ingredients that your skin will love. Best of all, everything’s free of parabens, artificial coloring, synthetic oils, aluminum, and more.

We want you to shop with confidence that Way of Will has your safety in mind. Our products aren’t just kind to your skin, but kind to the planet and everything that lives in it, too. Yes, we’re proudly vegan and cruelty-free, with a commitment to eco-friendliness.

What’s the Difference Between Body Oil and Body Lotion

When it comes to moisturizing the skin, there are two main options — body oils and body lotions. You might be wondering how these differ from one another. Let’s find out.

Body oil is oil-based and sinks right into the skin. It replaces the oils that have been lost during cleansing and has a light texture. Lotions, on the other hand, contain water and different emulsions. They’re often used to treat skin concerns, from dryness to itchiness.

There’s no proof that one is better than the other. And you don’t need to choose between them. However, most people have a preference. You can switch between body lotions and body oils depending on the season or your skin needs. Body oils are great during humid weather since they’re not as thick or creamy. In extra-dry weather, you can even layer your body oil and body lotion for a super-soothing combo.

It’s all up to you and your personal preference. But if you’ve never tried a body oil before, we recommend adding one into your routine for those days when you want intensely moisturized skin without the added weight of a lotion.

The Benefits of Natural Body Oils

There are so many benefits to using a body wash infused with essential oils. These are some of our favorites.

Light Feel

As body oils contain just the oil and no extra water or emulsions, they feel light on the skin. Plus, a little goes a long way when applied with warm hands. Perfect for those warm days when you don’t want to feel sticky.

Glowy Skin

Wanna bring some healthy radiance to the skin? Body oil is known for giving a hydrated and natural-looking glow.

Perfect for Massages

All-Way of Will Body Oils are infused with essential oils that make them ideal for sports or aromatherapy massage. Simply warm them with your hands, then glide across the tense parts of your body for a soothing release.

Multipurpose

Body oil is more than just a moisturizer. Since it also doubles up as a massage oil, you can save space in your beauty cabinet. There’s no need to run out and buy lots of products for your self-care nights. Just use your body oil!

Skin Boosting Ingredients

Every Way of Will Body Oil is packed full of skin-loving ingredients such as vitamin E, linoleic acid, omega-3, and more. Plus, essential oils are also kind to the skin.

Skin Feels Sooo Moisturized

The essential oils within the body oils add an extra layer of hydration. Essential oils come from plants, so they don’t have the harsh chemicals found in regular fragrances. These work together with the oils to provide a gorgeous scent and leave skin feeling more soft and nourished.

Lock in Moisture

By simply applying your body oil to damp skin after your bath or shower, you’ll trap moisture in.

All-Natural Body Oils

Essential oils contain no chemicals and their natural properties have more benefits than you might imagine. Some are anti-inflammatory and some have anti-oxidant properties. When applied topically like this, it can help boost your skin health and even calm down any flare-ups on the surface of your skin.

FAQs

What is Body Oil

Body oils are a type of moisturizer made from oil alone. They don’t contain water or emulsifiers like body lotions, so offer purer and deeper hydration.

How Do I Use Body Oils?

Use as a massage oil or apply to damp skin after showering to lock in moisture.

What Is Body Oil Used For

Body oil can be used to nourish skin that’s been stripped of its natural oils. It can also double up as a massage oil to soothe aches and pains, particularly after a workout. And, if you want to add a subtle sheen to your skin, this is a great go-to!

When Layering Body Oil and Body Lotion, Which Do I Put On First?

When layering any products, the general rule of thumb is to go from light to heavy. Oil is much denser and more moisturizing than lotions, which have a high percentage of water. So, it’s best to apply the lotion first and then lock it in with the body oil.

If you have extra dry skin, try adding some body oil to your body lotion, then layer more oil on top for an ultra-hydrating treat!

Will Body Oil Make My Skin Greasy?

Not at all! Body oils sink into the skin and leave you with a hydrated glow – no oil in sight!

Can I Use Body Oil on Oily Skin?

Yes, body oil is helpful for oily skin. As counterproductive as it may sound, your skin can overproduce sebum if it’s stripped of its natural oil. Body oil can help your skin regulate its natural oil balance.

Do Your Body Oils Contain Any Harmful Ingredients?

Our body oils are free from parabens, aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum zirconium, artificial coloring, synthetic oils, and sodium lauryl sulfate. We’re committed to offering a safe and healthy shopping experience, so you’ll never find these ingredients in any of our products.

Do You Have Vegan-Friendly Body Oils?

Yes, our body oils are vegan and cruelty-free. They’ve not been tested on animals and we do not sell them in countries that continue to require animal testing.

The Best Body Oils for Dry Skin, Ingrown Hairs and Stretch Marks

How To Make A DIY Body Oil Recipe At Home

It’s extremely quick and easy to mix up a simple, therapeutic, totally pure, additive-free, non-irritant diy body oil recipe with maximum benefits that are tailored to your very own needs and all at a very low cost, in minutes!

However, as with all homemade moisturizers, diy body wraps and other natural skin care recipes making a homemade body oil isn’t just about getting a quality product at a low price; it also enables you to have total control of what goes in it, so you can target those problem areas such as cellulite, Stretch marks or rough cracked skin.

Here’s How Body Oils Work

  • All moisturizers work by sealing the skin’s surface and trapping the body’s natural water within the skin’s tissue, as oil is far more effective in sealing and moisturizing than water, the more oil your moisturizer contains the better it will work.
  • DIY body oils that have been made with pure essential oils then diluted with the appropriate carrier oil won’t contain any hidden water, and has to be one of the best body treatments you can use.

How To Make Body Oil

To make a good body oil recipe we should be looking at around 97% carrier oil, 1 to 2% essential oil (depending on its dermal limits), and 1% Antioxidant.

To make it easier I’ve worked out the recipes bellow using teaspoons and drops, however, if you are thinking of getting into this in a big way I recommend getting a digital scale that can weight out extremely small quantities such as 0.01g

As we are talking drops and teaspoons the maximum recommended amounts we will be working with are 2 drops essential oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. Never use more than the suggested quantities, essential oils do not become more effective by using extra, in fact it may even have a negative effect.

Dermal Limits

Have a look at each essential oil on my essential guide. I also recommend checking the dermal limits for – Irritation, Sensitisation, and Phototoxicity when formulating.

A prime example of this would be Rose essential oil, it smells wonderful, and has fantastic values (defiantly in the top 10 best oils you can buy for skincare), however, it should only be used on average between 0.01 % to 0.04% in a body or face oil. Which is a maximum of 2 drops per 100g (3.5 oz) so please be wary of any online recipe that suggests using more.

Selecting The Right Oils

Try to make your body oil in small batches so that they are always fresh if however you really must make up a large batch, adding 1% of vitamin E or Rosemary CO2 extract. This will help to preserve the oils and stop them from oxidation or going rancid.

Choosing the right oils to match your skin type is particularly important as to how quickly the oils are absorbed into the skin. Below is a list of the best carrier oils and essential oils to use for different skin types and individual problem areas.

However, this doesn’t mean that you are limited to using just the oils listed in the categories below. The last thing you want to do is smother yourself in an aroma that doesn’t smell nice to you. After all, our mental health can also play a large part in improving our body and skin. All essential oils have value, so adding a few drops of your favorite scented oil can vastly change a dull smelling DIY body oil into something special.

Rich Moisturizing Body Oil Recipes:

Recipes are for 2floz/ 60mls and are best stored in a glass dropper bottle or a PET bottle with a serum or flip lid easy application.

For Mature Skin

Frankincense will always be my first go to in any mature body oil. It has some fantastic rejuvenating values that can help encourage new cell growth to keep our skin looking young and healthy. There’s a reason why the Egyptians used this oil to mummify!

Frankincense also has a nice spicy aroma that blends beautifully with the sweet citrus scents of sweet orange and neroli or fresh peppermint essential oils.

The carrier oils are interchangeable in these recipes. They all have a mild scent, along with superb moisturizing and cell renewal benefits. I’ll begin by showing you the one I use most often, my Orange Bliss body oil

MetricUS Customary

  • Put all of the carrier oil into your glass beaker, and add your essential oils.

  • Pour the contents into your bottle and shake it to combine ingredients before use

The following recipes all use the same method as above.

Minty Mornings – For Mature Skin

  • 8 drops Frankincense essential oil, 8 drops Orange essential oil, and 4 drops Mint essential oil.
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Pomegranate oil, 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Sweet Almond oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E.

For Dry Skin

Lavender is one of the most versatile essential oils on the market, it works well with all skin types but is particularly good on dry or sensitive skin.

Lavender has excellent anti-inflammatory properties to soothe and calm any dry or itchy areas. The mint might seem a strange one for dry skin, but it works perfectly with the lavender, and it has a lovely cooling effect on contact.

Mint essential oil is also a very good anti-aging oil and who would say no to that?

Once again the carrier oils are interchangeable in these recipes. They all have a mild scent, and superb moisturizing and cell renewal benefits.

Lavender Mint

  • 8 drops Lavender essential oil, and 5 drops Mint essential oil.
  • Blended in 12 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Apricot Kernel, 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Sweet Almond, and a few drops of Vitamin E.

Overnight Moisture Boost

  • 5 drops Lavender, 5 drops Neroli, and 5 drops Jasmine essential oil.
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) of Apricot Kernel oil, 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Meadowfoam oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E oil.

For Sensitive Skin

It’s no surprise that Chamomile essential oil features in both of these sensitive skin body oils. It has exceptional healing and calming benefits which is exactly what you want in a sensitive skin recipe.

The Lavender and rosemary essential oil are both known for their gentle nourishing values whilst the peppermint and neroli give these oils a welcome uplifting scent.

The Avocado oil can be purchased in a refined form which is a pale golden color and carries little or no odor, or in its unrefined form of deep green and nutty aroma. Given the choice, I’d go or the more natural one (unrefined) as it contains more therapeutic properties.

Cooling Soother

  • 8 drops Chamomile essential oil, 4 drops Lavender essential oil, and 4 drops Mint essential oil.
  • Blended in 12 teaspoons (2oz/60ml) Sunflower oil and a few drops of Vitamin E.

Green Calmer

  • 10 drops Chamomile essential oil, 5 drops Neroli essential oil, and 2 drops Rosemary essential oil.
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Avocado oil, 6 teaspoons (1oz/30ml) Calendula infused oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E OIL.

For Oily skin

Even oily skin needs to be moisturized to keep its fresh youthful appearance.

The great thing about using a homemade body oil here is that you can help balance the skin’s natural oiliness and target those problem areas that are prone to breakouts due to excess oil. Citrus oils are particularly good at this and have a beautiful uplifting aromas.

I think its important to use lightweight oils, that will glide easily but don’t feel heavy on the skin. the oils I’ve chosen here, also have oil moderating and anti-inflammatory qualities.

Bergamot Hydration

  • 10 Drops Bergamont essential oil, 5 drops Lemon essential oil, and 5 drops Patchouli essential oil.
  • Blended in 12 teaspoons (2oz/ 60ml) Safflower oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E oil.

Citrus Refreshment

9 drops Grapefruit essential oil, 6 drops Petitgrain essential oil, and 3 drops Lemon essential oil.
Blended in 12 teaspoons (2oz/ 60ml) Jojoba oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E oil.

For Problem Areas

There may be times when we need oil to target specific areas. Fresh is defiantly better here, so I strongly suggest making up a little at a time and storing them in a 1oz (30ml) dark dropper bottle.

Cellulite

  • 3 drops Rosemary essential oil, 2 drops Lavender essential oil, and 3 drops Sweet Orange essential oil
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1oz/ 30ml) Grapeseed oil and a few drops of Vitamin E.

Stretch Marks

  • 6 drops Frankincense essential oil, and 3 drops Lavender essential oil, and 3 drops Lemon essential oil.
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1oz/ 30ml) Rosehip Seed oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E.

Scars

  • 4 drops Sweet Orange essential oil, 4 drops Geranium essential oil, and 2 drops Frankincense essential oil.
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1oz/ 30ml) Rosehip Seed oil, and a few drops of Vitamin E oil.

Spots and Oiliness

  • 5 drops Tea Tree essential oil, and 5 drops Lavender essential oil.
  • Blended in 6 teaspoons (1 floz/ 30ml) Jojoba oil.

Adapting Your Body Oils

Now you’ve got the hang of how to mix up your own homemade body oil you can use them to create some other fantastic treatments such as body exfoliates, body packs and body soaks.

I’ve covered the basic methods on each of these treatments bellow but it really is down to individual needs and preferences, so get creative and custom build your own.

Exfoliation

For very rough areas (Sea Salt)

Use sea salt for very rough areas such as heels knees and elbows.

  1. Place 6 tablespoons of Sea Salt into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid, and sprinkle over 1 teaspoon of your chosen moisturizer mix.
  2. Place the lid on the jar and give it a good shake then leave it overnight before using it.
  3. Rub over damp skin in circular motions, rinse off with warm water and then apply a homemade skin moisturizer afterward.
For dry course skin (Almonds)
  1. Blend or finely crush 2 tablespoons of fresh almonds then add just enough of your chosen moisturizer mix to make a nice smooth paste.
  2. Coarsely chop another 2 tablespoons of almonds and stir into the paste.
  3. Then use immediately. Rub over damp skin in circular motions, rinse off with warm water and then apply a homemade moisturizer afterward.

Body Packs

Why Body Oils Are The Real Secret to Silky Smooth Post – Shower Skin

Not sure whether body oil is for you? News flash: it probably is. Here’s why you should consider this body care essential if it’s not part of your beauty routine yet.

If you have visions of yourself slipping and sliding around your bathroom trying not to break a bone after slathering on body oil, you’re probably not alone. But fear not: today is the day you learn about the benefits of adding body oil to your routine, and how to apply it so that everything goes smoothly.

Here’s why you should consider this body care essential if it’s not part of your beauty routine yet.

Why Body Oil?

If you’ve ever wanted soft, perfectly moisturized skin, then the question should be “Why not?” Although there is a body oil suited to every skin type, people with dry skin tend to benefit from its use the most. And contrary to what you might think, it can be used in any type of climate, all year round. “You may want to use a lighter oil in summer, and a richer one in winter, but you can play with textures for optimal effect,” notes Dr. Sarah Villafranco, Founder and CEO of Osmia Organics, which offers an array of top-rated body oils. On top of their superior moisturizing properties, many body oils offer a delightful aromatherapy experience, making them a joy to apply—not to mention that certain oils also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, “delivering vitamins and nutrients to the skin,” adds Dr. Villafranco.

How Does Body Oil Compare to Lotion or Cream?

You (hopefully) already moisturize your body regularly, so why would you use body oil instead of your regular body lotion or cream? According to Dr. Villafranco, lotion is made up of roughly 65% water and 35% oil, and is held together with an emulsifier. “By using oil on wet skin, you’re providing the water component, and you do the emulsifying with your hands as you rub the oil in,” she explains. You also end up getting more for your money, since a little bit of “oil goes a long way on wet skin,” she points out. Interesting! That would explain why a bottle of body oil tends to last me longer than other body moisturizers.

Oil goes a long way on wet skin.

How To Apply Body Oil

Apparently, this is the most important part of using body oil—and it’s also why people sometimes give up on it, as using it on dry skin is likely to make it feel greasy. “The way to use body oil is to apply it on sopping wet skin after bathing or showering,” reveals Dr. Villafranco. The key: not drying off at all before reaching for your favorite bottle, so that the oil mixes with the water left on your skin as you massage it in. “If you can handle air drying for a few minutes, it helps the oil sink in so you don’t end up wiping it all off with your towel,” she notes. It may take a bit of getting used to this way of moisturizing, but after a few days, you’ll be glad you stuck with it!

Different Oils, Different Benefits

Most body oils are a blend of different kinds of oils. Some of the most common: sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, and jojoba oil. “Some of my favorite less common ones are kukui and camellia seed oil,” shares Dr. Villafranco.

  • Sweet Almond Oil is high in oleic acid and omega-9 fatty acids, which can penetrate deeper into the skin than other fatty acids. It also has potential anti-inflammatory as well as antioxidant properties due to its high levels of vitamin E.

  • Sunflower Oil is high in vitamins A and E, absorbs easily, and leaves a soft finish on the skin.

  • Jojoba Oil isn’t a “true oil,” but rather a liquid wax akin to the sebum naturally produced by the skin—which makes it effective for softening both the skin and hair.

  • Kukui Oil comes from the candlenut tree, and has a high vitamin A, C, and E content.

  • Camellia Seed Oil is a popular ingredient in Asian skincare that comes from tea plants and is high in antioxidants. It can do wonders for your hair and skin.

What to Look for in A Body Oil

Dr. Villafranco recommends looking for certified organic ingredients, as well as a mix of oils that contains richer oils (almond, jojoba, and kukui), as well as lighter ones (fractionated coconut, rose hip seed). “You may have to try a few brands before finding the one that works best for your skin type,” she advises. Scent is also important, but highly personal: “Our popular Osmia Organics Night Body Oil is a lavender-cedar blend that is amazing after a pre-bedtime shower, and our Light Body Oil has a bright, lemongrass scent that is better than coffee in the morning!” promises Dr. Villafranco. Explore different scents and find one you like, or opt for an unscented oil to avoid it clashing with your perfume, or if your skin is particularly sensitive to fragrance.

It is almost impossible to repeat the production of a quality ester oil by a synthetic method.

Especially often it is used after scrubs, which can contribute to the flaking of the skin.

Massage is also effective, but it is absorbed best when the body is warmed up, which also helps to eliminate muscle spasms

I often use it.tons of essential oils in cosmetology. It is added to cosmetics, it is important to add it in the correct proportions, especially in facial treatments, as the skin of the face is especially sensitive.

90,000 how to apply firming oils for firmness and skin tightening

Skin care is very important, especially when it comes to hydration and nutrition. Essential oils are rightfully considered the best remedies for this.About what they are and what functions they perform, and will be discussed in this article.

How to receive

The choice of essential oil for your body’s skin care determines what benefits it will bring, and whether it will bring any benefits at all. Unfortunately, today there are a lot of fakes that not only will not lead to the expected results, but can also harm. Therefore, you need to know how natural oils are obtained so that when buying, you can make the right choice and do not purchase a synthetically produced product.

First of all, essential oil is considered the heart, the center of any plant from which it is obtained. It is a complex substance, and it can only be obtained from plants that are carriers of ethers, that is, they have a pungent, rather specific smell.

It is almost impossible to repeat the production of a quality ester oil by a synthetic method.

That is why it, obtained in an unnatural way, can cause allergies and other negative consequences for the human body.

Useful properties

Since ancient times, essential oils have been used to maintain the beauty and health of the body. But then people could not even imagine how much benefit they bring to the body.

The following properties stand out today:

  • Antimicrobial
  • Maintaining immunity
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Disinfecting
  • Antioxidant

With regard to the cosmetic benefit to the skin, the following properties should be noted:

  • Anti-cellulite
  • Power
  • Humidification
  • Softening
  • Tonus

In addition to all of these properties, it has long been known that certain essential oils have a calming, relaxing and stress-relieving effect.

These include, first of all, laurel and sandalwood. Due to this property, they are often used when doing massage or taking a bath. However, sometimes the smell is enough for the body to relax a little.

Application advice

Before use, it is best to determine the tolerance of the fragrance, since the essential oil is concentrated and has a specific odor, it can cause discomfort on the skin or even an allergic reaction. To avoid this, you need to mix 2 drops of an essential oil and 20 drops of a vegetable, then apply the mixture to the ears or on the wrist area and wait for about 12 hours. In order to make sure that the result is correct, you can repeat the same thing every other day.

Regarding the application itself, its features depend on the way of use.

For the bath, the agents are added directly to the water to relax or tone the muscles, depending on the properties of the oil used. They are also smeared directly on the skin after a shower, but in this case it is necessary to apply correctly: not in pure form, but a mixture with vegetable oil.

It is possible to use oils in compresses to relieve pain in muscles and joints in specific places.

Popular types

In this section you can familiarize yourself with different types of essential oils, which are divided into groups depending on skin problems.

  1. Dryness. The dry type is more susceptible to external influences (sun, severe frost, wind), which is why peeling and a feeling of tightness are more common. For this problem, mixtures based on vegetable and the following essential oils are best suited: chamomile, jasmine, myrtle, orange, geranium, sandalwood, incense.
  2. Fat content. Excessive work of the sebaceous glands leads to it, which provokes the appearance of an oily sheen and, in some cases, inflammation. In the fight against oily skin, essential oils will help: mint, lemon, grapefruit, rosemary, ylang-ylang.
  3. Sensitivity. Such skin requires special attention when choosing the right product, so as not to cause irritation and allergies. In this case, tea tree and tangerine oils are suitable.
  4. Age skin. It requires special care, namely, strong hydration and skin renewal. In this case, patchouli oil will help restore and tone.
  5. Flabbiness. The most effective skin firming agents are almond, shea and jojoba essential oils.
  6. Stretch marks. In order to prevent or reduce existing stretch marks, citrus fruits (tangerine, orange) and floral (jasmine, patchouli) are ideal.
