Rogaine cost. Comparing Hair Loss Treatments: Rogaine, Propecia, and Alternatives
How much do hair loss treatments cost. What are the most effective options for treating male pattern baldness. Which medications are FDA-approved for hair regrowth. How do Rogaine and Propecia compare in effectiveness and side effects. What are some more affordable generic alternatives to brand-name hair loss drugs.
Understanding the Cost of Hair Loss Treatments
Hair loss treatments can range widely in price, with most common options costing between $30-$70 per month. The two primary FDA-approved medications for male pattern baldness are Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). Let’s break down the typical costs:
- Propecia: Usually $60-$70 per month for a 30-day supply of prescription pills
- Rogaine: Typically $30-$40 per month for a 30-day supply of topical solution
It’s important to note that hair loss treatments are generally considered cosmetic and not covered by health insurance. This means the full cost is usually paid out-of-pocket by patients.
How Propecia and Rogaine Work to Combat Hair Loss
Propecia and Rogaine work through different mechanisms to address male pattern baldness:
Propecia (Finasteride)
Propecia is an oral medication taken once daily. It works by blocking the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp. DHT is a hormone that can shrink hair follicles and impede hair production. Results from Propecia typically take at least 3 months to become noticeable.
Rogaine (Minoxidil)
Rogaine is a topical solution applied directly to the scalp twice daily. It comes in 2% and 5% strengths, with the stronger 5% version recommended only for men. Rogaine stimulates shrunken hair follicles to enlarge, allowing for potential hair regrowth.
Do these treatments work for everyone? Unfortunately, neither Propecia nor Rogaine is universally effective. Results can vary significantly between individuals.
Exploring Generic Alternatives and Cost-Saving Options
For those looking to reduce the cost of hair loss treatment, generic alternatives can offer significant savings:
- Generic finasteride (Propecia alternative): Usually about 25% less expensive
- Generic minoxidil (Rogaine alternative): Can cost up to 50% less than brand-name Rogaine
Some men have found additional cost savings by using Proscar, a higher-dose version of finasteride used to treat prostate issues. By carefully dividing Proscar pills, they can achieve a similar dose to Propecia at a lower cost. However, this approach comes with risks and should not be attempted without medical supervision, especially in households with women who are or may become pregnant, as finasteride can cause birth defects in male babies.
Effectiveness and Safety Considerations for Hair Loss Medications
When considering hair loss treatments, effectiveness and safety are paramount concerns. How do Propecia and Rogaine measure up?
Propecia (Finasteride) Effectiveness
Propecia is FDA-approved for treating mild to moderate male pattern baldness on the top and middle front of the head. It has not shown significant effectiveness for receding hairlines at the temples. While generally considered safe for men, potential side effects include:
- Allergic reactions
- Breast tenderness and enlargement
- Testicular pain
- Sexual side effects, including erectile dysfunction
Rogaine (Minoxidil) Effectiveness
Rogaine is FDA-approved and available in 2% and 5% solutions. The 2% solution is considered safe for both men and women, while the 5% solution is approved for men only. The most common side effect reported is scalp itching.
Are these treatments equally effective for all types of hair loss? Studies have shown varying degrees of success. For Rogaine, research indicates that 40% of men experienced moderate to dense hair growth in the vertex of their scalp. Another study involving nearly 1,000 men reported that 62% noticed a reduction in hair loss.
Comparing Hims vs. Rogaine: Modern Alternatives in Hair Loss Treatment
In recent years, new players have entered the hair loss treatment market. How do newer options like Hims compare to established treatments like Rogaine?
Hims offers minoxidil solutions similar to Rogaine, which should theoretically provide comparable effectiveness when used alone. However, Hims distinguishes itself by also offering finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia). This combination approach may provide enhanced results for some users.
Studies cited by Hims suggest that using minoxidil over a 48-week period can result in a 12.7% to 18.6% increase in total hair count. When combining minoxidil with finasteride, some research indicates the likelihood of positive results may increase to over 90%.
Navigating the Purchase of Hair Loss Treatments
When shopping for hair loss treatments, it’s crucial to make informed decisions. Here are some key points to consider:
- Propecia requires a prescription, necessitating a doctor’s consultation
- Rogaine is available over-the-counter
- For online purchases, verify the legitimacy of the pharmacy. Resources like PharmacyChecker.com can help compare prices from licensed online pharmacies
- Consult with a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment for your specific situation
The Future of Hair Loss Treatments: Emerging Technologies and Research
While Rogaine and Propecia have been the mainstays of hair loss treatment for years, research into new therapies continues. What emerging technologies and treatments are on the horizon for those battling hair loss?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
PRP therapy involves injecting a concentration of a patient’s own platelets into the scalp to stimulate hair growth. Early studies have shown promising results, with some patients experiencing increased hair count and thickness.
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
LLLT uses red light wavelengths to stimulate hair follicles. Some studies suggest it may improve hair density and strength, though more research is needed to fully understand its long-term efficacy.
Stem Cell Therapy
Researchers are exploring the use of stem cells to regenerate hair follicles. While still in early stages, this approach could potentially offer a more permanent solution to hair loss.
Gene Therapy
Advances in genetic research may lead to treatments that target the specific genes responsible for hair loss. This personalized approach could revolutionize hair loss treatment in the future.
As research progresses, it’s likely we’ll see a broader range of treatment options become available, potentially offering more effective and personalized solutions for those experiencing hair loss.
Lifestyle Factors and Natural Remedies for Hair Health
While medical treatments like Rogaine and Propecia are often the go-to solutions for hair loss, lifestyle factors and natural remedies can also play a role in maintaining hair health. What non-medicinal approaches can support healthy hair growth?
Nutrition for Hair Health
A balanced diet rich in certain nutrients can support hair growth and strength. Key nutrients include:
- Protein: Essential for hair structure
- Biotin: A B-vitamin that may promote hair growth
- Iron: Necessary for hair cell protein production
- Vitamins A, C, and E: Antioxidants that support scalp health
- Omega-3 fatty acids: May improve hair density
Stress Management
Chronic stress can contribute to hair loss. Implementing stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, yoga, or regular exercise may help maintain healthy hair.
Scalp Care
Proper scalp care can create an optimal environment for hair growth. This includes:
- Regular shampooing to keep the scalp clean
- Gentle massages to stimulate blood flow
- Avoiding harsh chemical treatments that can damage hair follicles
Natural Remedies
While scientific evidence is limited, some natural remedies have been traditionally used to support hair health:
- Saw palmetto: May help block DHT production
- Pumpkin seed oil: Contains compounds that may support hair growth
- Rosemary oil: May improve cellular generation
It’s important to note that while these natural approaches can support overall hair health, they are not FDA-approved treatments for pattern baldness and may not be as effective as medical interventions for significant hair loss.
Psychological Impact of Hair Loss and Treatment
Hair loss can have significant psychological effects on individuals, impacting self-esteem and social confidence. How does hair loss affect mental health, and what role can treatment play in addressing these issues?
Emotional Impact of Hair Loss
Many people experience negative emotions related to hair loss, including:
- Decreased self-confidence
- Anxiety in social situations
- Depression
- Feelings of loss or grief
Psychological Benefits of Treatment
Successful hair loss treatment can have positive psychological effects:
- Improved self-image
- Increased confidence in social and professional settings
- Reduced anxiety about appearance
- Greater sense of control over one’s body
Coping Strategies
In addition to medical treatments, coping strategies can help individuals deal with the emotional impact of hair loss:
- Seeking support from friends, family, or support groups
- Exploring different hairstyles or head coverings
- Focusing on overall health and well-being
- Considering professional counseling if hair loss is causing significant distress
Understanding and addressing the psychological aspects of hair loss is an important part of comprehensive treatment. While medications like Rogaine and Propecia focus on the physical aspects of hair regrowth, a holistic approach that considers both physical and emotional well-being can lead to the best outcomes for individuals dealing with hair loss.

Hims vs Rogaine: What’s the Best Topical Treatment for Hair Loss?
Which is more effective for hair loss, Hims or Rogaine?
Studies have shown Minoxidil to be effective. The study that led to Rogaine, the first brand of minoxidil to be approved, showed that 40% of men exhibited moderate to dense hair growth in the vertex of their scalp. A different study of close to one thousand men showed that 62% reported a reduction in hair loss. And Hims quotes a study that shows that use of minoxidil over a 48-week period results in a 12.7% to 18.6% increase in total hair count.
By itself, Rogaine’s or Hims’ minoxidil should be equally effective. However, Hims is one of the easiest ways to get another drug proven to help proven to help prevent hair loss, finasteride. Combined with minoxidil, this could be a more powerful solution. Finasteride is the only other medicine to be FDA approved to treat male pattern baldness. It works – studies have shown that when you combine the two drugs you push the likelihood of positive results (that means keeping your hair!) up to over 90%. You can see a long list of clinical studies on Fin here. The reason why some men are worried about using the second medicine is possible side effects.
However, Hims now has a topical combination of 6% Minoxidil plus Finasteride! This topical is applied just how you’d put on traditional Rogaine, but with the added benefit of the second drug. While Fin isn’t FDA approved to be used as a topical, several studies have shown it to work when applied directly to your scalp – and it is believed that there is a lower change of getting side effects if you put it on your head instead of taking a pill. So if you are interested in using the two medicines but are worried about the possible side effects, check out the new, combo drug offered by Hims now.
Personal Anecdote: When I was in my twenties, I noticed that my hair was starting to thin. I used the liquid Rogaine for a number of years, and I credit it with helping me keep my hair. I did experience some irritation on my scalp, but was able to keep this under control using dandruff shampoo. I stopped taking it when my wife and I were starting to get ready to have our first kid, and I began to notice my hair loss starting up again. So minoxidil did work for me, and I’m starting it up again. I’ve also just gone through the Hims doctor’s visit to get Finasteride, and will update this post after I give it a shot. One of my co-authors of this site has been using Finasteride since his early twenties, and he still has a great head of hair, so I’m very optimistic.
Which do we recommend, Hims or Rogaine?
Both Hims and Rogaine offer their own brand of minoxidil. Which is right for you?
First of all, we highly recommend that you purchase this online instead of going to the pharmacy. Since shipping is included with both Hims and Amazon (assuming you have Prime), why wait in line? And more and more pharmacies have their expensive items behind those annoying, shoplifting prevention plastic barriers – who wants to have to talk to someone in person about how you need to grab a bottle of the “I’m going bald” stuff?
If you want to do every single thing you can to prevent hair loss, then we recommend you try a company like Hims. Hims is one of the first companies to offer a complete hair loss package full of medicines proven to help you keep your hair. Minoxidil plus Finasteride is currently the state of the art in terms of hair loss prevention. With Hims, you get an online doctors visit (super fast, right through your browser – and in most states, you don’t even have to talk to the doctor, you just fill out a form/answer basic health questions), prescription, and a subscription to the medicines. I’ve just gone through the doctor’s visit, and it is very simple – I didn’t have to talk with anyone, and got a notification on my phone that I was approved to try Finasteride.
Plus, Hims has a special offer right now where you can get a free doctor’s visit to find out if you’re approved for prescription hair loss treatments.

This observational study compares the prices of minoxidil products for men and women at retail pharmacies.
Minoxidil is a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved over-the-counter topical medication for androgenetic alopecia marketed and sold to men and women. Approximately 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States have androgenetic alopecia, and hair loss treatments represent a global market valued at $7.2 billion in 2015. Minoxidil is available as a 5% solution to be applied twice daily for men, 2% solution applied twice daily for women, and 5% foam applied twice daily for men (FDA approved in 2006) and once daily for women (FDA approved in 2014). Gender-based price differences have been well documented in consumer products: one 2015 report found that women’s personal products were 13% more expensive than equivalent men’s products. However, to our knowledge, gender-based price differences for medications have not been previously studied. We aimed to investigate price differences by gender for minoxidil products.
Methods
We collected data on minoxidil products from July 22 to November 28, 2016, at 6 of the largest national-chain pharmacies (CVS, Kroger, Rite Aid, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart) in 4 states (Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and Indiana). For each product, we collected retailer, brand, vehicle, price (original, excluding sales price), percentage of minoxidil, volume, application directions, gender specification, and inactive ingredients. This study was institutional review board exempt.
Prices per 30 mL were compared for (1) women’s (minoxidil, 2%) and men’s (minoxidil, 5%) solution and (2) women’s and men’s (both minoxidil, 5%) foam. Products were matched by brand, retailer, and inactive ingredients, and compared using paired, 2-tailed t tests (eg, Rogaine foam for men sold by CVS vs Rogaine foam for women, with identical inactive ingredients, sold by CVS). For each product, the largest volume available for sale was used. When prices differed for the same product at varied locations of the same chain, the mean price was used. Analyses were performed using Stata, version 12.1 (StataCorp). Two-sided P values <.05 were considered significant.
Results
At 24 pharmacies in 4 states, 41 unique minoxidil products were identified: 14 for women and 27 for men. For 16 matched minoxidil solutions, price per 30 mL of product was not significantly different between women’s (2%) and men’s (5%) products with identical inactive ingredients () ($7.61/30 mL vs $7.63/30 mL; P = .67). For matched minoxidil, 5%, foam products with identical inactive ingredients, there was a 40% mean increase in price per 30 mL of the product sold to women compared with men ($11.27/30 mL vs $8.05/30 mL; P < .001) ().

Discussion
These findings show that women pay a price per 30 mL for 2% “regular-strength” minoxidil solutions similar to the price that men pay for 5% “extra-strength” minoxidil solutions. This variation could be a result of differential pricing by gender or could reflect production costs that are not related to medication strength. However, minoxidil, 5%, foams with identical active and inactive ingredients are priced significantly more per volume of the same product when sold to women compared with men. Although women use minoxidil foam once daily compared with twice daily for men, the group of people (women) who require the same medication less often are paying more for each dose.
Gender-based pricing discrimination in retail settings has been recognized for decades, and several state laws and local ordinances prohibit it, although these laws may be difficult to enforce. Whereas other consumer products might be differently formulated by gender, minoxidil foam products are identical medications sold to women and men separately. There are surely differences in costs of product testing, approval, and marketing between genders; however, it remains that women are paying significantly more than men for an identical medication.
Our study demonstrates differential pricing of minoxidil for men and women, even in the absence of ingredient differences. This may reflect the larger issue of gender-based pricing, which, to our knowledge, has not been previously shown for medications.

The Best Hair Loss Treatments That Come in the Mail
The decision to start using a hair loss treatment is a big one. If given the choice, it’s safe to assume that most of us want to keep our hair. Wouldn’t it be nice to opt out of receding hairlines, general thinning, and patchy crowns? Thankfully that’s more affordable than ever, thanks to generic drug offerings (think Propecia and Rogaine, but a fraction of the cost). It’s also becoming easier to actually obtain these drugs, thanks to the world wide web. Companies are connecting customers directly with doctors, cutting out the in-office appointments, pharmacy commute, and days of waiting for your appointment. Now you can simply order everything online, get video consultation on your particular case, then receive your pills and potions in the mail.
The pills are finasteride (the generic for Propecia), which fights the hormone byproducts (DHT) that lead to hair loss. The potion is minoxidil (the generic for Rogaine) usually in a 5% concentration. It increases blood flow and nutrient delivery to your follicles, which in turn strengthens and fortifies them, thus preventing further shedding. Both finasteride and minoxidil can resuscitate existing, dormant follicles as well as prevent or slow future loss. Combined, they are doubly potent.
Before we highlight the best brands offering hair loss treatment subscriptions and services, we’d be remiss not to cover a few bases. Primarily the fact that, with these drugs, you really need to educate yourself on the prescriptions themselves, as well as the potential side effects. That’s why you need to rely on these companies’ doctors. (For example, a very small percentage of men who take finasteride experience a sharp decrease in sex drive, or in their ability to get or stay erect during sex. So please monitor that with your doctor.)
And don’t expect an overnight miracle: You can only regrow and strengthen the follicles you still have. This means that if you lost any hair in the past couple years, it’s likely you can restore some of it. But if it’s been long gone or never existed in the first place, well, that ship has sailed. Secondly, it takes 3-6 months to see results of either remedy, and you’ll need to maintain the daily habit in order to keep your hair. If you stop, then your body will resume thinning and shedding.
So, with all of that said, here are our favorite brands who help cut out the wait and the cost on hair loss remedies. And, even if hair lost is only just starting, you’ll be eternally grateful to your present self by taking a proactive approach.
hims
Hims has become a one-stop shop for all kinds of grooming and self-care needs, offering heavy-duty skincare, sex drive solutions, health supplements, anti-anxiety and depression meds, all sent to your door. They even offer a telehealth primary care appointment for $39 if you’d rather not visit the doctor’s office. They launched their men’s care empire, however, with that hair loss range, which includes DHT-fighting shampoo ($19), biotin gummies ($16 monthly), plus generic options for finasteride ($28.50 monthly) and minoxidil ($15 monthly). After enrolling, you’ll fill out a personal hair loss profile, to be reviewed by a doctor who can prescribe as needed. You’ll then complete periodic check-ins to track progress and possible side effects before renewing your finasteride prescription, if it’s been prescribed. (The rest is all over the digital counter.)
Keeps
Keeps was one of the first brands in this generic prescription hair loss game, and its offering has stayed focused on that: After signing up and speaking with a board-certified dermatologist, you can get subscriptions for finasteride ($25 monthly) and minoxidil ($10 monthly for drops, $15 monthly for foam—we highly recommend the drops for an easier experience). They recently added a 2% ketoconazole shampoo as well, which combats dandruff and dry, itchy scalp (which is a great tactic for promoting healthy hair growth). You’ll track progress quarterly with the on-staff doctors and make sure you are experiencing all of the benefits and none of the possible side effects. If all looks good, you’ll renew and get your next shipments. Any follow-up consults cost $5 per “visit”, but those are not typically necessary unless you’re using finasteride or have (very rare) side effects to minoxidil.
Roman
Roman’s hair-loss prescriptions and enrollment are in the same vein of Keeps’ and hims’, but its overall prescription model expands on the sexy stuff. They provide consultations, prescriptions, or supplements for premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, cold sores, genital herpes, testosterone boosts, as well as for common conditions like an enlarged prostate or smoking cessation. As for hair loss, you can get your first three months of finasteride for $40 ($20 monthly after that), and three months of minoxidil for $32 ($16 monthly after that).
Nutrafol
While it may not be “prescription-grade,” Nutrafol carries top-shelf, drug-free products. You can subscribe to a DHT-inhibiting supplement, rich in saw palmetto, which helps prevent the formation of testosterone into DHT. Nutrafol’s core product, though, is the nutraceutical supplement, which harnesses the powers of stress adaptogens, super antioxidants, and hydrolyzed collagen, as well as hormone-supporting herbs, all to strengthen and preserve the health of your hair and follicles. A subscription to this supplement ($79 monthly) gives you access to Nutrafol’s on-staff doctors for individual consultations, plus the added benefit of lowered stress, fortified hair, better sleep, and clearer skin—all happy effects of these super-packed pills.
Viviscal
Viviscal is another renowned supplement for hair growth, proudly touting its proprietary AminoMar blend of ingredients (including oyster extract powder and shark cartilage, of all things). It’s a biotin-free approach that still prioritizes vitamin c and zinc, and promises denser hair growth beginning at 3 months. You can get a monthly supply starting at $45, or opt into a 3-month supply for $120 (if you enroll in auto shipments).
Blink Health
Blink partners with pharmacies in all 50 states—chief among them Walmart, Kroger, Safeway, Albertsons, and Publix—to give customers easier and cheaper access to generic drugs like finasteride. As Blink’s customer base grows, their prices get lower, too, since they work by negotiating rates with drug companies. (A month of finasteride will only run you $8.95 at present.) You simply need a prescription from a doctor, and can file it with your pharmacy, or enroll in an at-home delivery service.

Is Rogaine Worth It? – Budgets Are Sexy
By J. Money – Last updated .
(Guest post by Charlie while J$ reads The Millionaire Next Door to his baby ;))
I suffer from what people call male pattern balding. My grandpa was completely bald by age 30, my dad is 59 now and doing everything he can to “comb over” the problem, and then there is me. I’m 35 and I’ve still got a lot of “crops” left on the upper dome, but let’s be honest – it’s thinning! (Insert Homer Simpson “DOH” here..)
Thinning hair is something I can’t do much about… at least that’s my philosophy. It’s not like something you can control. However, when I was just out of college I noticed my widow’s peak was beginning to be more pronounced. I’d heard a little about Drug_XYZ (a little pill for hair growth), and I’d seen some commercials for its competitor Rogaine, so I decided to contact my doctor about both of them and see if I could get a prescription.
I came into the doc’s office, and here’s how the conversation transpired:
Doc: Hey, Charlie, what are we seeing you for today?
Charlie: Doc, I feel like my hair is starting to thin, and I’m only 23. I was wondering if you recommended Drug_XYZ (which I need a prescription for) or Rogaine?
Doc: Ok, well let me have a look. (Doc examines my scalp)
Doc: So, Charlie, how old are you?
Charlie: Um… 23. (Doc pauses for a second, and thinks)
Doc: So let me get this straight. You are 23 years old and you are contemplating going on a hair growth drug for, let’s just say, until you are 65?
Charlie: Well…I was just looking into it.
Doc: Let me give you little piece of advice before you dive into this. Take Drug_XYZ for example. It costs about $50/month. If you were to go on this drug for 42 years, how much do you think it would cost in the end? (Doc gets out his calculator)
Charlie: Um…$10,000?
Doc: Try $25,200 (as he pridefully shows me the calculator). Have you considered Rogaine? It’s a lot less expensive and doesn’t require a prescription.
Parting with $50/month at 23 years of age is hard to do. Especially when you aren’t making much just out of college. So I looked at what the difference would be between the little pill drug and Rogaine. Being the “thrifty guy” I am, I naturally had to break down the cost vs benefits between the two:
Like for many things in our life, parting with money is a tradeoff.
Is the money in my wallet worth X amount satisfaction. In this case, is $150/year worth X number of new hair follicles? Or for Drug_XYZ, is $30,000 over 50 years worth more to me than an equivalent 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe?
Personally I don’t care what people say, and would give anything to look like my Grandpa at 92 years old!
He lived through the Great Depression, and would make fun of me if he ever heard I had thought about buying Rogaine or Prescription. Our conversation would go something like this:
“What? Hair growth drugs? Why would you spend your money on that? You know how long it would have taken me to save $50 during the depression, Charlie? 50 days! When I was making $1/day on the farm I thought I was living large. Don’t be a fool, and spend your money on crap!”
With our society so stuck on looks, perfumes, makeup, laser hair removal, liposuction, and countless beauty products it makes you wonder. What are we thinking? Is temporal “beauty” worth X number of dollars for a particular beauty product? Here are a few alternative options to consider spending your money on.
- Donating $50 a month to a local single moms shelter – instead of investing in your personal beauty consider giving the money you’d spend on makeup to a single mom’s shelter.
- Vanguard Managed Payout Funds – invest in a payout fund that will pay you monthly for your investment.
- Serve at a local food bank – instead of spending or giving money have you thought of investing your time? Call a local food bank and consider giving time to people less fortunate.
- Setup your Living Will to give back to a certain cause for 50 years after you’re gone – have you considered setting up an annuity that will payout after you’re dead? Consider setting up an annuity towards your alma mater, church, food bank, or national charity.
So bring on the rockin’ bald dome! I’m ready to drive my shiny new 1965 Mustang!

ROGAINE OVER-THE-COUNTER SEEN RAISING A CROP OF SALES
A new product will bring growth to supermarket health and beauty care shelves — hair growth, that is.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration this month gave approval to Pharmacia & Upjohn, Kalamazoo, Mich., to market Rogaine, a 2% minoxidil prescription hair regrowth treatment, over-the-counter. It is scheduled to ship in April at a suggested retail of $29.50, almost half the prescription cost.
Though the $29.50 price tag may be high for supermarkets, several retailers interviewed by SN don’t think it will hamper sales.
“The price point won’t matter to somebody who doesn’t have hair, and who will do anything to get it,” said Jim Denny, nonfood buyer at Dierbergs Markets, Chesterfield, Mo. “I think they will pay whatever it takes.”
But retailers are concerned that Rogaine’s high price point could lead to shrinkage. As a result, several plan to be cautious with their merchandising programs.
“Pharmacy may be the best place for Rogaine because other high- ticket products are there,” said Chuck Witt, director of general merchandise and HBC at Certified Grocers Midwest, Chicago. He added that having a pharmacist nearby to answer any questions consumers have could help sales.
A 2-ounce, one-month supply of Rogaine will come in light blue packaging for men, and salmon for women. Each package will feature different illustrations and slightly different copy that addresses the
gender-specific hair loss patterns, a spokesman at Pharmacia & Upjohn told SN. Available by prescription since 1988 for men and 1991 for women, Rogaine is directed at people who experience baldness. It has OTC clearance in 12 countries.
Because the prescription and OTC formulations are identical, prescription Rogaine will be discontinued once the OTC version becomes available.
Denny of Dierbergs may merchandise it in hair care, where he feels it will gain attention from both men and women. “A lot of women have the [pattern baldness] problem. Many have dyed their hair too often, which has caused their hair to fall out,” he said. Dierbergs also may cross-promote prepacks of Rogaine on the counter at pharmacy.
Not all retailers are optimistic about Rogaine’s success. Although Mike Kilgallon, category manager for HBC at Genuardi’s Family Markets, Norristown, Pa., hasn’t had a manufacturer presentation yet, he is uncertain about how customers will respond to the OTC form of the product. “I think it will have a limited market, appealing basically to people who were already using it,” he said. Kilgallon plans to carry Rogaine in the hair care section. Through the first nine months of 1995, U.S. sales of Rogaine reached $72 million. Arvind Desai, an analyst with Mehta & Isaly, New York, predicts that OTC Rogaine will have about 15% to 20% higher unit sales, which he attributes to greater awareness and accessibility of the product.
Desai said he doesn’t think Pharmacia & Upjohn will promote Rogaine as heavily as SmithKline Beecham and Johnson & Johnson/Merck did for Tagamet HB and Pepcid AC. (Each company reportedly spent $100 million to support the products.) But he said it would have to spend at least $50 million to have a significant effect.
Rogaine Hair Re-Growth Foam Treatment Costs 40 Percent More for Women, Report Finds
Here’s some upsetting news to kick off your workweek: Gender bias doesn’t just fall within the realm of the workplace. It’s an issue that is highly prevalent in an unexpected area of economy — the personal care product market — where many of your everyday essentials (think: razors, facial cleansers, and deodorant) are marked up in price, thanks to the so-called pink tax. This means that women pay more for nearly identical products than men do just because. And thanks to a recent study, we now have conclusive evidence that the pink tax is alive and thriving. (Ugh.)
It’s been reported that approximately 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. have androgenetic alopecia (male- and female-pattern baldness), and one of the largest forms of treatments is minoxidil, a topical treatment that fights hair loss and promotes re-growth. According to a report published online by JAMA Dermatology, researchers discovered that women pay, on average, a whopping 40 percent more for over-the-counter hair growth products, including Rogaine and similar minoxidil–based products, than men do to combat said hair loss.
After realizing there may be price discrepancy in the market, the authors of the report decided to launch an investigation to find out if hair re-growth products for women are, in fact, priced higher than the formulas targeted to men. The group of researchers compared the prices of Rogaine and similar minoxidil-based products from 21 different mass-market retailers — CVS, Kroger, Rite Aid, Target, Walgreens and Walmart — in four states (New York, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) from July to November 2016.
The results concluded that women’s FDA–approved 5 percent foam formulas averaged $11.27 per ounce, while the men’s products were priced at $8.05 per ounce. Given these findings — which unmask a 40 percent increase on average in women’s products when compared to the men’s counterpart — it’s clear that there’s a glaring markup.
When asked about the price differences, a Rogaine spokesperson told Time that both foams — for men and women — are priced the same per ounce when purchased directly from the company’s website, as well as when the products are sold wholesale to pharmacies.
In addition to Rogaine, the researchers also surveyed prices of topical liquid minoxidil, a hair loss treatment that’s only been approved at two percent strength for women and a 5 percent strength for men. Unlike the Rogaine findings, though, these products were priced roughly the same — at an average $7.61 for women and $7.63 for men — even thought the women’s formula differs in strength.
When asked why he believes there’s a price discrepancy between the men and women hair re-growth products, Neil Sadick, a New York City–based dermatologist was confused — just like us. “There is no good rationale as to why 2 percent versus 5 percent minoxidil products should be comparably priced, because they are using more of active ingredient in the 5 percent preparation,” he tells Allure. “One would think it is either a marketing decision made by the pharmaceutical company, or a gender-related strategic decision.”
Suffice it to say, if you’re in the market for a hair loss treatment, it may be in your (and your wallet’s) best interest to avoid the labels.

Rogaining
I have been participating in rogaining for 5 years now.
Rogaining is a sport close to orienteering. Participants move around the area and “collect” checkpoints, marked by the organizers on the map. The cost of each CP in points is known in advance and indicated on the map. The task is to get the maximum number of points faster than your opponents in less time.
Rogaining is always an adventure.Even in familiar terrain, this is improvisation and fun, patience, overcoming and freedom, not limited by a predetermined route. These are emotions – from happiness to despair, joy from the simplest things – mugs of hot tea in the middle of the night, when it’s very cold, or dry socks. And it is also an intellectual sport: you need to think a lot in it, analyze the possibilities – both your own and the area. Rogaining is an adventure for everyone, even if 300 people start at the same time. Being responsible for your own path and your mistakes is the philosophy of rogainers.
In this article I will tell you how rogaining differs from orienteering, what equipment, clothing and footwear is needed for it, and how to go to your first amateur start.
And rogaining, like orienteering, is a stunning nature.
What is rogaine and how does it differ from orienteering
Rogains are similar to orienteering, but they are not the same thing.
Orienteering is a sport in which, with the help of a map and a compass, participants also find checkpoints, placed in advance on the ground and marked on the map.But if in rogaining you need to score more points in a set time, then in classical orienteering it is the time during which the athlete overcomes the distance is more important, that is, how fast he moves.
Rogaining is named after the first rogaining athletes who first organized a round-the-clock hike in 1976, they were called Rod, Gail and Neil – Rod, Gail, Neil
The use of navigators is prohibited in orienteering and rogaining – only a map and a compass.
In orienteering, the winner is the one who collects all the control points faster, and in rogaining, the winner is the one who scored the most points and met the target time.
Orienteering courses rarely take longer than three hours. And rogains can have distances from three hours to two days. If the rogainer does not fit into the control time, he is fined for every minute of delay, that is, points are deducted from the total. Usually, if they are more than half an hour late, the participants are disqualified, and their result is not taken into account in the final protocol – even if they took all the control points and scored the most points.Specific penalties are always prescribed in the competition regulations.
There are different disciplines in orienteering – classic, sprint, choice. In classical orienteering, the CP must be taken in a strictly established sequence. That is, you do not come up with a route and tactics yourself, but simply move from point to point. Distance in the classics is overcome by running. Sprint is short, 3-4 km, and fast, 15-20 minutes, distances. The choice is closer to rogaining – here the participant chooses which control points to take.
Unlike orienteering, Rogaining focuses on strategy and tactics. That is, the participants themselves need to think over the optimal plan for taking control points, taking into account the peculiarities of the team or personal preferences. For example, I do not like swamps and in advance I refuse complex control points in swamp wilds, even if they are expensive. Someone is strong in running through a dense forest, while others, on the contrary, find it easier to run long runs along paths – all this must be taken into account when planning a route.
In addition, it should be borne in mind that all control points in rogaining are worth a different number of points. How much depends on their complexity: points that are simple in orientation and close to the starting point are estimated cheaper, complex and further located – more expensive. The cost of the commercial proposal is determined by the first digit. For example, KP 80 is scored at 8 points, and KP 36 at three. In this case, there is no need to wait for the consecutive numbering of paragraphs. That is, it is normal when after control point 22 there is immediately control point 30, after control point 71 – 80, but there is no control at all 1-19.
Here is an example of a map for rogaining with a legend in the upper right corner, in which the description of the control begins at 20, and after control 22, control is immediately followed by control 30
they give out the card a few minutes before the start and do not give time for preparation. During this time, you need to figure out the procedure for taking the checkpoint, calculate the mileage and find the optimal and most profitable option for movement. For example, sometimes cutting a path directly through the forest can be more difficult and longer than running around the trails – this needs to be thought out by carefully studying the map.
As a result, the participant or the team that planned the most accurate and economical route in terms of the effort expended, scored more points and met the control time wins in rogaining. Just physical endurance is not a guarantee of victory: here you need to be able to think, read the map and look for the shortest possible real path.
You can participate in rogaining alone, together or in a team of three to five people. But for long distances from 5-8 hours, individuals are not allowed.
For beginners, I recommend rogaining, not orienteering. So you will have the opportunity to carefully study the map, independently think about the route and build your own path. Flexibility and teamwork are also about rogaining, as well as the ability to abandon an expensive checkpoint and change the route if you realize that otherwise you will not meet the control time. To spend 1.5 hours, to fall waist-deep into the swamp and never take the command post – you also need to be able to accept such situations.
This is orienteering: the route has already been laid and drawn on the map – you got the map and you run. Source: orient-murman.ru Rogaining is an intellectual sport, you have to think a lot here. At major competitions, a special copy of the map is sometimes issued – a draft, in order to think and try on different route options
This is how the participants of rogaining competitions think over the routes and mark them on the map Here we made a mistake with the choice of the road – we had to drag the bicycles through a bunch of fallen trees and branches, lost a lot of time and energy
How rogainers are marked on KP
Checkpoints in rogains are electronic stations to which participants apply special chips, and prisms – orange-white or red-white triangles visible from afar.On night and long rogains, reflective tape is also attached to the checkpoint.
KP can be placed on trees, rocky ledges, tops of mountains and hills, in swamps, pits, along the banks of rivers and reservoirs, on bridge supports and on cell towers – the organizers’ imagination is limitless. Usually, organizers choose beautiful places or local attractions for KP.
This is a checkpoint. To the left of the tree is a station for an electronic mark with a number, and to the right of it you can see an orange-white prism And this is a checkpoint with a prism – this orange-white thing behind the tree – and a photo mark – I’ll tell you about them further
Rogaining participants find checkpoints on the ground and mark on them. The marks come in three different ways.
Electronic tag. In this case, before the start, a chip is fixed on the hand of each participant with a special control tape. If a competitor removes the chip or breaks the control tape, he will be disqualified.
To get a mark, the chip on the checkpoint is applied to the station until the sound signal. If teams are competing in rogaining, each participant must check in. Moreover, between the marks of the members of one team there should be no more than two minutes: according to the rules of rogaining, the team should not be divided.
Chips are in the form of a card or a key.
Chip card. The white strip is the tape used to attach the chip to your wrist. Black – a duplicate rubber band, so as not to lose the chip for sure
It is a chip key and an electronic punching station. It is convenient to attach it either on the wrist or directly on the finger. At the command post, he “sticks” into the nest at the station. Source: sportidentsiberia.ru
Photo tag is a photograph of a rogaining participant at a checkpoint – as a rule, a selfie by the whole team.Such marks instead of electronic ones are usually used in training or small local competitions.
KP with a photo mark is also denoted by a prism, but instead of a station, an A4 sheet with the KP number and / or a control word is used – if the phone has sat down and there is no way to take a photo, you need to write down the control word in a special field on the map.
In competitions with photo tags, you are guaranteed to have a photo. True, sometimes with a tortured face. For example, once I was photographed in a spring rogaining, standing ankle-deep in ice water mixed with ice, but I will not show this photo. The command post stood on the shore of the opened lake – the water melted and flooded all approaches to the command post. Let me remind you that the white and orange pieces in the photo are prisms.
The composter, or clothespin, is a special plastic clip with different needle configurations. Each rogaining participant puts a mark for them in a special field on his card.
Composters are rarely used in large competitions.
On the left is an electronic punching station, on the right is a composter. Sometimes they are duplicated – if the chip does not work, the participant makes a mark with a puncher.Source: turclub-pik.ru
Where to look for rogaining, training and like-minded people
In recent years, there has been a real boom in rogaining: many different competitions have been held – classic running rogaining, cycling, water, ski, night rogaining. Athletes from related disciplines actively participate in them – cycling, trail running, kayaking, cross-country skiing, as well as tourists who just want to walk in the forest. Often whole families with children can be seen at the starts. And sometimes in the position they even prescribe a separate category of participants with small children – a sling.
Here is an example of the Kama Bike Adventure 2021, which has a sling for parents with children under three and a junior for parents with children under 14. Source: vk.com
As a first experience, I advise you to participate in an open training in orienteering – it can be a city or park start. For example, in Yekaterinburg they are organized by the Think and Run group. The cost of training is 150-200 R, orienteering is calculated including for beginners, the mileage is 4-6 km.
For residents of Moscow, information about such trainings can be found on the websites of the Orienteering Federation and the Moscow Compass.
In Yekaterinburg, “Think and Run” training is popular – often in the process, more experienced participants help beginners work with a compass and a map. Source: vk.com At the request of “rogaining” in “Vkontakte” 117 communities – and not only in the capitals. Source: vk.com The website of the Russian Rogaining Federation has a calendar of Russian and foreign competitions. Not only running, but also water rogains are indicated
In the Chelyabinsk region at the end of May, a traditional spring water rogaine is held – participants compete on kayaks and kayaks on the Argazinskoye reservoir. For beginners who already know how to use a map and a compass at least a little, such competitions are also suitable – it is clear that you will not get into the prize-winners, but you will have time to take a few control points and feel the atmosphere of adventure. The boat can be rented on site. Participation fee – 4600 RUR for a team of 2-3 people.
“Ring-24” is popular in the Urals – a competitive weekend hike, rogaine with a control time from 6 to 24 hours. Entry fee 300-1200 R from each participant.
If you are training recently, enter the minimum distance – orienteering there is more difficult than in parks. If you already feel confident in the forest or have an experienced partner, try longer routes. Even if something goes wrong or you realize that there is not enough strength yet, there is always an opportunity to leave the distance in an emergency azimuth – this is the direction of the shortest path to civilization and / or the place of start / finish, it is always indicated on the maps for rogaining. And if you get completely lost, the organizers of the competition will save you – their phones are also always indicated on the map.
Near Yekaterinburg, on July 17, 2021, a rogaine “Across the swamps and over the hills” from Nikolai Bondar took place. This is a traditional summer competition, two years ago they were held as part of the Russian Rogaining Championship. This year, the second name of the rogaining is “Shaitan Tin”, the participation formats are 4, 8 and 18 hours running. My partner and I participated in the 18-hour rogaining. The entry fee is 1500 RUR per participant.
And I think this was the last time I chose the long format. To plan the route, we had two hours – and we did not have enough time, because there were too many options on the map. Usually you choose to go north or south, clockwise or counterclockwise. There was also a choice between three islands surrounded by swamps and ambiguous roads. The organizer also warned that when crossing the swamp between checkpoints 71 and 75, one could fall up to the neck.
In the end, I still fell into the swamp so that I barely pulled my leg out, I was bitten by a moose fly – even Refamid did not save me from it, I erased my legs to pain and at half past three in the morning I almost met a bear – it was scary. My partner and I covered 48 kilometers and scored 100 points. In total it was possible to score 398 points, but no one did it – the winning team collected a CP of 302 points.
My partner suggested not to take risks and go on good roads, but that would have scored 20 points less, so I insisted on a risky option with swamps
Newcomers can also participate in the Russian Rogaining Championships – it is enough to pay the starting fee. There is no preliminary selection of participants yet. In 2019, the championship was held in the village of Verkh-Neyvinsk, 70 km from Yekaterinburg, my partner and I chose the daily option. The entry fee was 2500 RUR per participant, and if they had registered earlier, they would have paid 2000 RUR
Of course, we did not run all 24 hours – this is the choice of strong rogainers, we just walked at a brisk pace. In 23 hours my companion and I covered 71 km, fell into the swamp up to the waist, climbed the hills and windbreaks, ate hot soup at night at the checkpoint, performed our entire repertoire of songs, planted a couple of lanterns and almost fell asleep at the checkpoint at 5 am. It was especially fun to go at night – in order not to fall asleep, they sang songs on the go.I recommend it as a great leisure and way of meditation.
Our track from the championship of Russia And the final points – for almost 23 hours we scored 162 points out of 573 and took 7th place. The women’s leader team scored 289 points
It makes sense to follow not only rogaining, but also march-throws, multi-races and adventure races held in your region – often these names hide a multi-day rogaining or rogaining with additional stages: rowing, rock climbing, rope stage, coastering is orientation along the coastline, etc.d.
For example, the legendary Petersburg and Moscow throw marches are a two-day orienteering competition. A couple of years ago they were joined by the Yekaterinburg Throw March, the Zavolzhye March and others. The distance of the march-throw is held autonomously, that is, the participants need to carry all the necessary equipment for the night, food and warm clothes, and outside help or the transfer of things is prohibited.
The throw-march consists of two orienteering stages with an obligatory overnight stay at the intermediate finish – and then it’s up to you: to carry the tent for two days and sleep comfortably or to restrict yourself with an awning from the rain. These starts are popular not only with orienteers, but also with hikers and nature lovers, attracted by the opportunity to walk in beautiful places with a map, compass and goal.
In Tatarstan, the Kama Bike Adventure race has been held twice a year for 14 years already, the spring race was supposed to take place on May 29-30, but due to the ban on visiting forests, it was postponed to the end of September – so you still have a chance to participate. A great map, a warm camp atmosphere and beautiful scenery are guaranteed.Participation formats – jogging or cycling, from 3 to 24 hours non-stop. The entry fee is from 700 RUR per person.
The most famous adventure race in Russia is the Red Fox Adventure Race. It is traditionally held in Karelia. This is a competition for experienced and enduring participants, which includes, along with orienteering, water and bicycle stages, as well as numerous special stages. For example, a rappelling is a descent on a rope along a steep rock, coastering and others. Formats – 12, 24 and 48 hours.
Entry fee from 4000 to 8000 RUR per participant, depending on the class and time of registration. I wouldn’t recommend this race for beginners, but the long journey begins with the first step, so who knows where your passion for rogaining will lead you.

Rogaining Equipment
To enter your first rogaining training session, you only need one piece of special equipment – a compass. The organizers will give the card and the chip.
Compass is the main attribute of a rogainer. It is used to determine the cardinal points: the magnetized compass needle with the letter N (Nord) points to the north. South is marked with the letter S (South, Suid). To the left of the north W (West) – west, to the right E (East) – east.
The rogaining compass is used like this:
- First, the cardinal points are determined.
- Then they look in which direction the checkpoint is and what landmarks there are near it, for example, a mountain, rocky outcrops, a lone tree in a field or a fork in the road – everything that will help you to become attached to the terrain.
- Further, holding the compass horizontally, remember the direction, mark a point on the map and roughly calculate how many meters to it.
It is important not to forget about the map scale. But I usually conventionally consider that one step is equal to one meter, and in difficult cases I count the steps so as not to miss a turn.
An important rogainer skill is the ability to walk in azimuth. The azimuth is the angle between the direction to the north and any object on the ground, in orientation it is most often the CP.To go in azimuth means to determine the desired direction relative to the north and stick to it until you reach the designated point. This way of orientation is used on hard-to-read terrain, poor in landmarks, for example, in a dense forest without paths or in swamps without noticeable landmarks.
This is how the azimuth is schematically depicted
This is how the azimuth is schematically depicted
In addition to the actual navigation functions, the compass can also contain a ruler and magnifying lenses.
There are two types of sports compasses that are most often used in training and competitions:
- On a platform or on a board – a massive option, but due to the large platform it is convenient to follow the azimuth with it.
- Thumb – Compact version with special thumb loop. There are left and right hand compasses – choose which one suits you best.
It is more convenient to use finger compasses – they can be applied to the map on the run. If you use a compass on a board, try not to lose it while moving and be careful about the lace, if you hang the compass around your neck or a backpack – it clings to branches.
This is what the compass looks like on the platform. Source: ozon.Common crawl en I use a hand-held compass for my right hand
You can buy a compass in sports stores: Sport-Marathon, Alpindustriya, Trial-sport, Decathlon, Manaraga, Kant. Prices – from 350 RUR to 8000 RUR for models from Suunto – a Finnish brand that makes premium high-precision compasses, they are expensive but very reliable.
To begin with, you can take a basic model of a hand-held compass for 950 R – it is enough for the first steps in orienteering. The compass on the board will cost a little less – from 400 R.
Map is a scaled terrain plan with start, finish, intermediate finish points, if specified in the competition rules, and control points. The map is always prepared in advance by the organizers of the competition – and this is a colossal work.
The scale of the map for rogaining, that is, the ratio of the distance on the map to the real terrain, is quite large – usually 1:15 000 (in 1 cm – 150 m) or 1:20 000 (in 1 cm – 200 m).
A legend is attached to the map – a description of the landmarks of the control points.North on the map is always up.
At major competitions, the card is printed on banner fabric – it does not get wet. At trainings and smaller competitions, the maps are usually paper, and they are either given a file or a zip-packet, or the participants themselves, after drawing the route, seal the map with wide tape.
To read the map, you need to know the signs and conventions. But I do not recommend that beginners memorize all the signs at once. For a start, it is enough if you learn to distinguish a dense forest from a field, a mountain top from a ravine, and you can recognize relief features and local landmarks on a map – lakes, rocks, glades.
It’s like reading in a foreign language – you may not know the translation of all the words in a sentence, but understand its general meaning. For the first short workouts, this will be enough, besides, it is at workouts that you can always ask to explain an incomprehensible sign of the organizers or other participants. For example, a long time ago I was taught to walk in azimuth in a training session, so don’t be afraid to ask for advice.
A red triangle on the map denotes a start, a double circle denotes a finish, a single circle with a number denotes a checkpoint.
For me, the best way to memorize conventions is to participate in training. Source: o-rostov.ru
It’s not scary if at first you confuse a micro-well with a micro-tubercle
It’s not scary if at first you confuse a micro-well with a micro-tubercle
But it is better to remember the horizontal lines right away, so as not to storm steep mountains in vain.
Curvimeter is a special device that measures the length of the route laid. This is necessary in order to understand the real length of the route – there is a difference whether you run 70 km or 82 km.
The curvimeter is used as follows: put the wheel to the start and “drive” along the proposed route to the finish. Depending on the scale of the map, they look at the desired scale and determine how much the arrow has run – this will be the length of the route.
How to use the curvimeter – video on YouTube
Instead of a curvimeter, you can use buttons and an ordinary thread – the needles are stuck in key points of the route, the thread is wound and then its length is measured.
The cost of the curvimeter starts from 300-450 R and goes up to 2500 R for universal models. For example, here is a suitable model for three map scales for 360 R, but the Silva Map measurer Path for maps with eight different scales for 2390 R. You can find a curvimeter in sports stores, construction and repair shops, or online hypermarkets.
When using the curvimeter, do not forget to take into account the scale of the map – here it is indicated on the right tip of the arrow
Clothes for Rogaining
If you run, hike, even yoga or fitness, you probably already have all the basic wardrobe for rogaining and orienteering training. Most of the rogains are held during the warm season – from April to October, although there are also ski rogains.
Trekking trousers, tights or leggings – what exactly depends on the weather on the day of the start. I do not recommend running through the forest in shorts or breeches – you will scratch your legs, and it will not be so pleasant to wade through the nettles.
If you do not have the right sweatpants, choose a lightweight and quick-drying model – rarely on which rogaine you can not get your feet wet, or even wander knee-deep in water.Stretch fabrics are great – usually cotton with an addition of elastane, nylon or spandex.
Budget options can be found in Decathlon: Quechua cropped tights cost from 700 R, trousers are slightly more expensive – simple models from 1200 R, different from 2200 R. In Sportmaster, pay attention to Outventure – suitable trousers cost from 1800 R. Running brands, for example Asics, are more expensive – on average 3000-4000 RUR if you buy without discounts.
This is a great version of the Quechua trousers – stretch, lightweight, with profiled knees, quick dry and with a hip pocket for your phone.Source: decathlon.ru
I run rogaining in touring clothes. My practical main option is pants from RedFox, I bought them three years ago for 3000 R at a sale, now they cost 6200 R. They are light, with darts on the knees, stretch well and dry quickly. Plus there is a convenient pocket on the hip for the phone – which you, of course, will pack in an airtight bag or plastic, so as not to get wet.
Another favorite in the trousers category is the model from the Nepalese brand Sherpa. They understand exactly what it takes to walk in the mountains and run through the forests.
Very soft and comfortable trousers from Sherpa. I wore out my first Sherpa trousers on trekking and cycling trips literally to rags. In the photo there are new ones, bought in pre-pandemic times for 8,315 Nepalese rupees (5,187 R). Now they cost $ 80 (5829 R), but it is difficult to buy them: there is no delivery to the Russian Federation on the official website
T-shirt made of quick-drying materials, a T-shirt, top or thin summer thermal underwear. I recommend at least buying short and long sleeved T-shirts. The first is suitable for rogaining in city parks, the second – for forest ones, because running with bare hands through a dense forest is unpleasant – you will all be scratched and bitten by mosquitoes.
It is better to choose modern synthetic fabrics or combined versions of synthetics and cotton that wick moisture well. Pure cotton quickly removes excess moisture from the skin, but does not distribute it, but accumulates and retains – accordingly, the T-shirt will dry longer.
Prices for T-shirts start at 400 RUR in budget stores, on average for 1200-1500 RUR you will buy a beautiful and functional thing. For example, here is a T-shirt for 799 R – it does not have flat seams, inserts for headphones and reflectors, but it must remove moisture due to special ventilated zones. In the 849 R model, the seams are already flat – and there is less chance of rubbing the skin. And the model for 1390 R has a reflective logo on the sleeve – useful if you plan to run, including in the dark.
I run in a Molon Labe T-shirt – I got it two years ago. It has mesh inserts for better ventilation, reflective elements, a pocket for a player and a convenient headphone outlet, and an insert for cleaning glasses.
If it’s hot, I put on the top of the Hawaiian brand Zoot – they make amazing clothes for runners, cyclists and triathletes.A small part of the collection can be found in “Trial-sport”, the complete collection – in foreign online stores. My top in 2020 cost 35 $ (2550 R), now you can buy it on sale for 28 $ (2040 R). It’s not hot for me to ride a bike even in +35 ° C.
Molon Labe makes cool tees for warm weather and running workouts
I use this top in all outdoor activities in the summer.
I also use regular quick-drying T-shirts from various competitions where I participated or was a volunteer – usually this is the Ural Adventure Race, a collection of which I have been collecting for several years. This is me at the finish line of the August rogaining “Along the valleys and over the hills” from Nikolay Bondar
For cool weather and night adventures, light summer thermal underwear made of knitwear with elastane, polyester or cotton is suitable. The task of thermal underwear is to retain the heat that a person generates and effectively remove moisture. Suitable options cost from 1400 R for one item from the kit.
I prefer synthetics and wear Polartec clothes – this is a two-layer material: the inner layer draws moisture away from the skin and allows it to pass through, while the outer layer absorbs, distributes and evaporates it.Polypropylene is also a good material, but with prolonged wear it can dry out the skin too much.
Top Sivera I bought 10 years ago for 1200 R and am still happy with it – I am warm and comfortable. The composition contains Polartec, so the sweaty back dries quickly, and the mesh structure of the fabric is pleasant to the touch. Now suitable models of the top from Polartec cost 2000-3500 R. Thin bottom can be purchased from 2100 R.
In the summer top, I run rogains and go hiking all year round
Light membrane jacket, windbreaker or windbreaker is relevant in spring, autumn and on long rogains.A windbreaker is useful for protection from cold wind, and a membrane jacket will save you from rain. You can use combined options, for example, from softshell – this material combines a membrane with insulation and is pleasant to the body, or buy two jackets.
What is softshell
You can buy a windbreaker for running with a water-repellent impregnation that can withstand light rain from 2000 R in budget stores like Decathlon and from 4000-6000 R in stores with an assortment of running brands – Salomon, Asics, Bjorn Daehlie, Muzino.
An example of a suitable windbreaker that will withstand drizzling rain. Source: decathlon.ru Another budget option. Source: decathlon.ru A more expensive option – with mesh inserts, good ventilation, convenient pockets and reflectors. Source: runlab.ru And this is a stunning color jacket of the Japanese sportswear brand Asics – a lot of reflections, light weight and protection from moisture. A good choice for running on rainy and dark evenings. Source: kant.ru
As a windbreaker, I use a membraneless model from Sivera.I bought it four years ago during the sales period for 3600 R. It weighs a little, is not blown by the wind, keeps light rain – what you need with unpredictable Ural weather and cold summer. Updated models of this windbreaker now cost from 8900 R to 10 600 R.
Membrane jackets are a more versatile option for rain protection used in mountaineering, cycling and hiking, so it’s not only available from running brands. When choosing, pay attention to the characteristics of vapor permeability and water resistance.
Water vapor permeability, that is, the ability of a material to pass steam, is measured in g / m² / 24. The higher the value, the greater the vapor permeability of the material, and the better for us – this will avoid overheating and stay dry. For not very intense loads, choose jackets with vapor permeability parameters of 10,000-15,000 g / m2 / 24. If you are going to set records, see options from 20,000 g / m² / 24.
Water resistance from 10,000 to 20,000 mm will be enough, I do not advise taking less than 10,000 mm – it will quickly get wet, and Rogaines do not always fall out in dry weather.Moving around the forest at night in wet clothes is a dubious pleasure, fraught with health problems.
Budget versions of membrane jackets can be bought from 5000 R, top-end – for 12 000-20 000 R. Look at Salomon, Asics, Bjorn Daehlie, Nike, Muzino. In allied sports, look for models for climbers and extreme sports from Sivera, Bask, Arcteryx, RedFox.
Water resistance – 10,000 mm, vapor permeability – 10,000 g / m2 / 24. The jacket is suitable for medium-paced jogging in the rain.Beginners are unlikely to be able to quickly run through the forest and navigate right away – so you can safely take this option. Source: kant.ru A variant with a laminated membrane from Asics, similar in terms of moisture and vapor permeability. Source: sport-marafon.ru In this model, moisture resistance is already 14,000 mm – it will withstand good rain. Source: manaraga.ru You can run in a storm jacket from Sivera even in the pouring rain – it will be dry and comfortable, the water resistance is 20,000 mm. Source: sivera.ru
I usually wear a Sherpa membrane jacket.I use it for protection from rain and as insulation at night when it gets very cold. The jacket can be conveniently folded into its own pocket for transportation, takes up little space and, despite its venerable age, still keeps rain out. I bought it in 2012 in Nepal for 7600 R, a similar model is now being sold for 100 $ (7195 R). Last year, on the march, a downpour began at about 12 at night, and we arrived at the intermediate finish only at three in the morning – the membrane saved me.
When it’s really cold, I use a softshell.I have had different softshell models from Sivera, I can safely recommend them as a universal option for all types of outdoor activities. For me, softshell is an indispensable option for trekking and tourism in the off-season, for cycling and travel, and also as a top layer in cold summers. Just as good is the Windstopper – this fabric is warm and soft like a fleece, but at the same time protects from adverse weather conditions and quickly evaporates excess moisture. Sometimes the linings to the membrane are made of fleece for better insulation, sometimes – from elastic knitwear.
In the summer of 2020, I bought Skvara for 5400 R, with delivery from the manufacturer, it cost me 6280 R. In the fall, I went on several hikes in it and am very pleased – it combines a softshell with a Shell-Ter Neo pore membrane, beautiful and light , and there is also ventilation in the armpit area and a convenient pocket on the sleeve. I wore it in the spring in the forest and in the city and continue to wear it in the summer on cool days.

Rogaining Shoes
Sneakers are chosen depending on the terrain on which the rogaining takes place.
For urban training workouts, sneakers for running on asphalt or everyday wear are suitable. For example, in the spring I bought the Asics Patriot 10 GS running shoes for 1845 R. So far I have only run in them a six-hour spring rogaine through the forest and about 200 km through the city and parks. Although they are designed for asphalt, they run well in the forest, and they are also very light, especially when compared to the Salomon trekking ones.
My favorite sports shoe manufacturer is Salomon, I wear their shoes in winter and summer, in the city and on all my adventures. For walks and rogaining in the forest, I use trekking models, for example, from the latest light options – Salomon XA PRO 3D. They hold their feet well, are stable on wet stones and protect from the blows that you definitely get when moving through the forest, especially at night. I also wear them in the city and on short hikes. I bought three years ago for 6000 R, now this model can be found at a discount of 3500 R
After the first rogaining and mud, the sneakers lost their beautiful salmon color, and the fabric on the toes has already begun to tear, but for this price it will go for one summer Compare with the tread on the outsole of Asics Patriot
For long rogaining in the forest or on rough terrain, it is better not to choose heavy trekking and trail running shoes. They are distinguished from asphalt by a more aggressive tread, and from trekking ones – by less weight, they are light and tenacious.
I wear the legendary Salomon Speedcross Vario 2. I bought them a couple of years ago for 5500 R, now these can be found at a discount of 4000 R. They are very light, fit the foot well, due to the tread they perfectly hold the grip, and a special tape between the sole and the upper of the sneaker protects the foot from bumps, dirt and moisture.
You can buy sneakers in “Kant”, “Sportmarathon”, “Trial-sport” or “Alpindustria”.Decathlon has running shoes from 1600R – but I don’t wear them and I can’t say anything. When choosing shoes, carefully look at weight, tread, foot protection and reviews.
Speedcross is popular with runners, including professional ones. Salomon is constantly updating this line, bringing the shoe to perfection for the best results
What else to bring along
For a one- or two-hour city workout, you don’t need to take anything other than a compass. For forest competitions from 3 to 8 hours, be sure to take:
- Minimal first aid kit with pain reliever and plaster.
- Water reserve or isotonic is a drink that maintains the water-salt balance in the body – 1-1.5 liters per person.
- Nutritious snack – sports gels, energy bars, chocolate, nuts, sandwiches.
High5 is my favorite manufacturer of sports gels and isotonics. I usually buy it on ChainReactionCycles, but since June 2021 they have lost delivery to the Russian Federation
All equipment can be easily folded into the running vest backpack. If you don’t have one yet, a regular small backpack will do.It is good if the backpack is compatible with the hydrator, that is, there is a pocket for the container and an opening for the tube to go outside. The hydrator is put into the backpack, and the tube is taken out and attached to the shoulder strap with a special rubber band. This allows you to drink on the go without unnecessary movement.
A hydrator is a container for a liquid, usually a bag with a lid or clip, with a tube and a valve
My Deuter hydrator is already 12 years old, I bought it a long time ago for 900 R. Now you can buy a hydrator from 800 R. The volume depends on your training plans, but you shouldn’t take more than 1.5 liters. This should be enough for the distance – taking into account the replenishment of supplies at the springs and drinking points.
Just remember to wash and dry your hydrator after each use. For cleaning the pipe, special thin brushes are sold.
This is what my hydrator looks like In the frame there are two backpacks and two hydrators – notice the blue tubes. The hydrator itself is removed inside the backpack, and the tube with the valve is brought out to the strap and secured with a special elastic band
For long and night food rogains, lard or sausage is already appropriate, and a flashlight and a life blanket are required from the equipment – this is a piece of thin foil film that helps to temporarily stop heat loss and avoid hypothermia or save from overheating and heatstroke.
The rescue blanket has two sides – silver and gold. The first keeps you warm, the second keeps you cool. It costs from 99 R, weighs 60 g, but in the event of an emergency it will help maintain the health of the injured participant until help arrives.
And on the march, the life blanket replaced my sleeping bag – in June it was warm enough to sleep under it. Source: decathlon.ru
Also, do not forget spare clothes – thermal underwear, a light jacket, a buff – a tube scarf made of fabric, socks and even gloves.
In the Urals in the summer we have a lot of ticks and mosquitoes, so for long rogains I also take Refamid and, in case the tick does bite me, a tick beetle and small zip packets. For night rogains, I additionally take a couple of ampoules of guarana – it helps not to fall asleep on the go. I buy for 160 R apiece at a local bike service. Guarana can also be bought in sports nutrition stores, at Sbermarket and in various service and outfitting centers.
Bike and water rogains will have a slightly different list of equipment. Usually, all the required equipment is spelled out in the competition rules – it is convenient to simply gather according to the list.
This is guarana from my old stock.Cola flavored – tastier This is a flare for scaring away wild animals. You can buy it in hunting shops or at Ozone. Sometimes hand flares are sold right at the start of the rogaining. Source: vk.com
If you plan in advance not to run all 8/16/24 hours, but to walk, think about trekking poles. Sticks will come in handy when crossing rivers and measuring the depth of swamps, and in the end it will just be easier to walk with them. I try to take one light pair for two when participating in walking daily rogains.
I have an old model of Black Diamond Distance FL poles, I bought them in 2013 in Nepal before the track for 7000 R.A similar model now costs 15 590 R. For many years of active use, they did not do anything, even the joints between the knees did not fray, which I was initially afraid of. Before that I tried to buy cheap sticks for 1000-1500 R, but they could not withstand even one trip, despite their decent weight.
The weight of my pair of Black Diamond together with a cover in the size of 95-110 cm is only 440 g – and when folded, the poles can be easily removed into the side pocket of even a small backpack. In general, I recommend – they definitely cost their money and will serve for many years in hiking, trekking, rogaining and trail running.
Black Diamond has models that are heavier and have two sections, they cost from 6500 R. Less well-known brands sell sticks from 2000 R. Sometimes at competitions I see people with ordinary wooden sticks cut off right there in the forest – so, in principle, this is not a compulsory expense item.
My poles are folded – they are three-section, which means they are compact and take up little space in the backpack
Getting ready for the rogaining start will cost from 10 044 R 90 113

Forest Rogains
The international standard provides for participation in rogaining competitions for teams of two to five people who are not allowed to split at a distance. The main task is to score for a limited period of time (usually 24 hours, but competitions are also held in a shortened format – 6, 8, 10, 12 hours) the maximum amount of points that are awarded for visiting checkpoints established on the ground. This is the general definition of the sport – rogaining.
Rogaining distance is a choice! This means that participants can collect checkpoints on the ground in any order. Participants choose their own route based on their technical and physical skills. The main task is to meet the control time. Indeed, for each subsequent minute of being late to the finish, the participants are awarded a penalty of one minute.
You can get acquainted with the rogaining rules by following the link: Rules.
On rogains, the start and finish are always in the same place. Perhaps this is the only difference between rogaining and extreme tourist hiking.
The cost of control points (CP) on forest rogains varies from 1 to 10 points.Depending on the area of the competition, this gradation can be reduced to create a tighter fight. In forest rogains, there can be long distances between control points (in contrast to orienteering). These distances can range from 500 meters to several kilometers. This is one of the features of the forest classic rogaining.
Once in the Siberian region, the Siberian Rogaining Cup was held, which included 4 stages: Omsk, Tomsk, Minusinsk, Krasnoyarsk. But in 2018, the Cup was no longer held due to the fact that almost no one could take part even in 3 of the four stages. The cup was canceled, but the rogaining did not stop!
Map of Rogaine on Lake Small Kyzykul (Minusinsk region).
The team of organizers “Krasnoyarsk Rogaine” in Krasnoyarsk holds only one rogaine a year with the same name “Krasnoyarsk Rogaine”. The format of the competition is 24 hours (teams) and 6 hours (in person). These competitions are held in accordance with all rogaining rules. At the Krasnoyarsk Rogaining competition, teams must plot their route on the terrain during the day. At the same time, participants can always go to the base camp, where the organizers organize meals.
However, this service is only for daily rogaining formats. In short format rogaining, the competitors are responsible for taking care of their own diet throughout the competition. And only at the finish line, the organizers provide food, if it is prescribed in the regulations.
Rogaining map in Krasnoyarsk.2017 year.
Omsk, Tomsk, Minusinsk can be considered the nearest cities in Krasnoyarsk, where forest rogaining is carried out.
In Omsk, the Federation of Sports Tourism conducts extreme trips 2 times a year (in spring and autumn). The KP gradation on the Omsk extreme hike is insignificant. But the number of command posts on the ground is enormous. The format of these competitions is 24-26 hours. Previously, start and finish were spaced apart. But over the past few years, the start has been combined with the finish. So now it can be considered rogaining. In the spring, this extreme hike takes place in mid-March, so you can participate at least jogging (if you can), at least on skis, at least on snowshoes. In autumn (mid-October), this extreme hike is overcome by running. The area in Omsk can be described as “Table”. Almost flat landscape, a huge number of open spaces with numerous forest entrances. This is the main specificity of this area. Everything is clearly visible. But in foggy or rainy weather there is nothing to do without a compass!
Maps of one competition “Spring Omsk extreme hike”.2017 year.
Tomsk Rogaining is held annually in Tomsk in August. The format of the competition depends on the competition map. The team format is 4 or 6 hours. Personal format – from 2 to 3 hours. Tomsk maps have their own specifics. As a rule, they have a decent amount of marshland, which, in the dry season, simply turn into lowlands with high hummocks! This competition is held by the Tomsk Orienteering Federation.
Rogaining map in Tomsk.2017 year.
In Minusinsk, forest rogaining is carried out in the vicinity of Lake Maly Kyzykul. The dates run from July to August. For the past few years, the formats have remained unchanged: 8 hours (teams) and 4 hours (in person). Beautiful places. The lake is in the center of the map. Dune relief, cut by a grid of paths and trails, as well as moss. And, perhaps, moss is a very significant factor. Running on it is not easy.

Urban Rogains
The international standard provides for participation in rogaining competitions for teams of two to five people who are not allowed to split at a distance. The main task is to score for a limited period of time (usually 24 hours, but competitions are also held in a shortened format – 6, 8, 10, 12 hours) the maximum amount of points that are awarded for visiting checkpoints established on the ground. Urban Rogaining , differs from the classic Forest Rogaining in several ways.
The first is, of course, the temporal extent of city rogains. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the duration of city rogains is from 2 to 8 hours.
The second aspect is the format of participation. You can participate in a personal format (one participant), or in a team format (two participants). These formats correspond to the time limit on the rogains. Typically, team formats are twice as long as personal formats.
Rogaining map in Zheleznogorsk. year 2014.
The third aspect is the map of the competition. Unlike classic forest rogaining, urban rogaining takes place within the city limits. Most of the control points are located among houses, but there are always control points that are located in the forest (so to speak, for advanced rogainers). Due to the fact that most of the control points (CP) are located among the houses, this greatly simplifies the orientation and search for the CP. And this, in turn, allows people who do not have much experience in orienteering and navigation to take part in these competitions.
Rogaining map in Solnechny microdistrict (Krasnoyarsk).2017 year.
Surprisingly, in urban rogaining, advanced orienteers can compete with ordinary runners. Indeed, with simple orienteering, the speed of overcoming the route is the main component of the race.
Of course, city rogaining maps vary widely. There are small towns with relatively little development. Then many points are located in the woodlands. There are big cities in which competitions are held only in certain districts, then almost all control points are located among houses. This fact undoubtedly affects the cost of checkpoints, their number, as well as route planning.

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, city rogains are held in Krasnoyarsk, Sosnovoborosk, Zheleznogorsk and md. Sunny. The plans are to draw a map of the city of Divnogorsk, so that the city rogaining can be carried out there too.
Participating in urban rogaining can be a good starting point for those who are still hesitant to take part in serious forest rogaining.
The City Rogaining Cup has been held for several years in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, which includes 5-6 stages. You can get acquainted with the general information on the Urban Rogaining Cup on the website: Urban Rogaining Cup.

Rogaining is an exciting sport similar to orienteering. The goal of the competition is to gain the maximum number of points for visiting checkpoints while passing the distance. Sports insurance for rogaining should include the maximum number of insurance risks, because athletes experience significant stress during competition.
Common Rogaine Injuries
Taking into account the fact that athletes involved in rogaining have to perform the main complex of cyclic exercises, namely running, walking and cycling, most often their injuries are associated with injuries of the back and lower extremities.
Most common rogaining injuries:
- Dislocation of the ankle joint;
- Contusions of toes;
- Knee injury;
- Muscle strain;
- Injury to the back.

Rogaining is a sport in which teams of 2 to 5 people compete for a set time limit, trying to score the maximum amount of points that are awarded for visiting checkpoints established on the ground. The cost of the checkpoints is different, so the teams themselves choose which points to take is advisable and which are not. To successfully solve this problem, you need good endurance, the ability to navigate, strategy, tactics, team coordination, and mutual assistance.
Rogaining competitions have recently become more and more popular among orienteers, multisport athletes, runners, cyclists, skiers, hikers and everyone who wants to actively and interestingly spend time in nature. The growing popularity of rogaining can be explained by the fact that rogaining is essentially a sport for everyone. All rogaining competitions, including high-ranking competitions (Championships of Russia, Europe, and even the world) are open to any participants – from professional athletes seeking to win a champion title, to people who simply want to relax and spend time actively in nature, and even beginners. for the first time picking up a map and a compass. The rogaining competition format, in which points in the competition area are selected by choice, allows any team to plan a route according to their strengths and capabilities.Rogaining competitions are arranged in such a way that it is impossible to leave the race, going out into the forest with a map, any team will certainly find several checkpoints, feeling pleasant fatigue and satisfaction from what has been done. Each participant will have a set of unforgettable impressions from the competition!
Rogaining is sport, active recreation, extreme and adventure.
A new accurate map has been prepared specially for the competition, which will be the main tool for athletes during the competition.A good card means a high class of competition, fairness of the struggle, and just pleasure from the very process of taking control points.
About 400 people from Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan, Tver, Ivanovo and other cities of Russia are expected to participate in the 4th stage of the Moscow Region Rogaining Cup. Among them are both experienced athletes, prize-winners of the Russian, European and world rogaining championships, and simply lovers of an active lifestyle, seekers of new experiences.
An electronic punching system will be used for the competition. All teams will have a fixed time for marking the checkpoints they visited. This will allow you to quickly take stock and identify winners in all formats and categories.
We invite all participants to the 4th stage of the Moscow Region Rogaining Cup!
Rogaining. Championship of the Far Eastern Federal District – yasinkov – LJ
Rogaining – This is a kind of orienteering, but the fundamental difference is that here you need to score points by collecting control points, which, depending on the distance and complexity of the location, have a different point value. For everything about everything, they give a limited amount of time, every minute of delay is punishable by a fine.
Since 2015, rogains on Russian Island are held twice a year. In May – the Primorsky rogaine and in October – the Far Eastern Federal District championship. I like Rogaining even more than classical orienteering. Firstly, because of the format itself, where the route must be drawn up independently. And probably because earlier bicycle orienteering was carried out on the ground and with maps sharpened for running distances, and on the island the conditions are perfect for a bicycle format.
I myself am taking part in rogaining only for the second time. For the first time it was in the spring of 2016. Then I took a high fifth place, gaining the same points as the leaders, but being late by 8 minutes, received a huge penalty. This time, I managed to win !!! Yes, there were no such strong bike-orientators as Nurmukhametov, Grinev, Shostak, Umnikov, Trudkov … But there were Taranov (Candidate Master of Sports and champion 2016), Barley (1st category and winner of Primorsky Rogaining 2017), Kaganovsky (1st rank and bronze of the championship 2016) and the guru of Primorsky bike orienteering Slava xauc (silver championship 2015).And also two MCs in running orienteering, it is clear that they are not cyclists, but the guys are strong and very experienced. In addition, ShAO with their students. There are 21 cyclists in total. And to stand on the first step of the podium, in such a company, which is much more pleasant than two weeks earlier at the FC in the absence of competition. It’s funny that taking part in the competition twice this October, both times became the winner. And in general, remembering my few podiums (silver in the MTBO sprint – 2012 and bronze at the XCM MI – 2014), they all happened exclusively in October.Oktyabryonok I’m shorter))
We started and finished at the Voroshilov battery in the Patriot Park. Contrary to the misconception that if I live in Russian, then I know everything here like the back of my hand, then this is not so. About 60% of the tracks I have visited on this rogaine have never been seen or driven by me before. Nevertheless, the tactics of collecting CP, this time, were significantly different from all the others.
So I’m the only one who went to take 50KP. I spent quite a lot of time there.First, I drove along the road along the power line very far to the north and noticed this only when I saw a turn to the oceanarium. Then he rushed straight to the west through the forest, got on his own road and drove in the opposite direction. Secondly, I lost a lot of time in the search for the command post itself. On the map and according to legend, it seems to be at the top of the trail, but it turned out to be below in a caponier.
After 50 kp, 13, 15, 14 and 12 kp alternately swept, seemingly without any particular difficulties in orientation. At 14 KP I met many runners, including Slava Kaloshin. At 12 he hesitated a little. First, before the CP, I fell through the bushings into a puddle and wet my feet through and through, and after the CP, into another puddle, I flopped down with my arms outstretched forward, soaking them up to my elbows.
After 12 control points I went straight to 22. Leaving 10 and 11 for later. On the way to 22 kn, I discovered that there was no bike computer on the handlebars. Thus, I was left without time control already in the first of three hours of the race. Subsequently, I had to constantly climb into my pocket and look at my watch, which was extremely inconvenient.
Field 22 went, just went and did not go, up a steep hill towards 41kp. In the saddle at the fork I got into the saddle and rolled down. I don’t know how, but I arrived exactly at 41 CP. I was waiting for forks, but I never noticed them, which way and which way back.
After 32 checkpoints, ShAO drove to the meeting and three more guys on its tail, incl. Kaganovsky.
At the fork, before the ascent to Glavnaya, I saw a bicycle lying unattended. I don’t think it was justified to run 2.5 km round-trip without a bicycle on a dirt road, into which even I, with my crowbar gears (39-32), quite enter. Upstairs I met the owner of the bike. Having lowered a little in the room itself, in search of 40 kp, on the descent he overtook the runner returning to his bike. In the same place, at 40kp, I realized that I would not have time to collect anything else and it was time to return to the finish line at all times. And also, according to legend, 40 kp should have been in the northern corner of the building, but in fact it was hanging in the southern one! )))
Before taking 17KP, I experienced a terrible and furious descent from the Glavnaya Mountain. In some places it seemed that cyclocross on these stones would irrevocably fall apart.
Before the finish I managed to take another 10KP. As a result, he scored 24 points, taking the following control points in turn: 50, 13, 15, 14, 12, 22, 41, 32, 40, 17, 10; spending 2 hours 57 minutes 10 seconds, almost filigree keeping within 3 hours.
