Skin care in winters. 17 Essential Winter Skin Care Products for 2024: Dermatologist-Approved Solutions
How can you protect your skin during harsh winter conditions. What are the most effective products for combating dryness, redness, and UV damage in cold weather. Which dermatologist-recommended items should be part of your winter skincare routine.
Understanding Winter’s Impact on Skin Health
As temperatures drop and winter sets in, our skin faces unique challenges. The combination of cold air, low humidity, indoor heating, and harsh winds can leave skin feeling dry, tight, and irritated. Dr. Tiffany J. Libby, a board-certified dermatologist, explains that these environmental factors can strip moisture from the skin, leading to a condition called xerosis – characterized by rough, dry skin.
But dryness isn’t the only concern. Dr. Kim Nichols, another board-certified dermatologist, highlights that winter can also trigger:
- Increased skin redness
- Rosacea flare-ups
- Heightened risk of UV damage (due to snow glare)
To combat these issues, it’s crucial to adapt your skincare routine for the winter months. Let’s explore some dermatologist-approved products that can help keep your skin healthy and radiant throughout the cold season.
Hydration Heroes: Moisturizers for Winter Skin
Proper hydration is the cornerstone of winter skincare. Here are some top-rated moisturizers recommended by dermatologists:
SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2
This Allure Best of Beauty winner is a favorite of Dr. Nichols for addressing winter dryness and flaking. Its ceramide-rich formula provides intense hydration, leaving skin with a velvety-smooth texture. Think of it as a luxurious cashmere sweater for your face.
EltaMD Moisture-Rich Body Creme
For body care, Dr. Nichols recommends switching to a richer lotion like this EltaMD cream. It’s suitable for dry and sensitive skin types, featuring a blend of hyaluronic acid and mango seed butter. The addition of niacinamide offers extra benefits for skin brightness and clarity.
Caudalie Premier Cru The Cream
While primarily targeted at fine lines and wrinkles, this Allure Best of Beauty winner is perfect for winter skincare thanks to its hyaluronic acid content. Its rich, custardy texture provides intensive conditioning for dry winter skin.
Serums and Treatments for Extra Hydration
To boost your skin’s moisture levels, consider adding a hydrating serum to your routine:
The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum
This affordable option is a 2022 Allure Best of Beauty winner. It quickly absorbs into the skin, delivering a potent dose of hyaluronic acid – a molecule capable of holding 1,000 times its weight in water.
Aquaphor Healing Ointment
Dr. Nichols recommends this classic product for addressing severely chapped areas like lips and feet. Its blend of petroleum jelly, mineral oil, glycerin, and lanolin creates a protective barrier that locks in moisture and promotes healing.
Gentle Cleansing for Sensitive Winter Skin
Harsh cleansers can further dry out and irritate winter skin. Both Dr. Nichols and Dr. James Y. Wang suggest opting for gentle, hydrating cleansers:
La Roche Posay Lipikar Wash
This cleanser is formulated with moisture-replenishing ingredients, making it ideal for managing weather-induced sensitivity and redness. It cleanses effectively without stripping the skin of its natural oils.
Sun Protection: A Year-Round Essential
Many people underestimate the importance of sun protection during winter months. However, UV rays can be just as damaging in cold weather, especially with the added reflection from snow.
Dr. Nichols emphasizes the need for year-round sun protection, recommending:
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30
- Apply to face, hands, and all exposed skin areas
- Put on sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside
- Reapply every two hours if staying outdoors for extended periods
Addressing Winter-Specific Skin Concerns
Beyond general dryness, winter can exacerbate certain skin conditions. Here’s how to tackle some common issues:
Combating Redness and Rosacea Flare-ups
Cold weather and wind can trigger redness and rosacea symptoms. Look for products containing soothing ingredients like:
- Niacinamide
- Centella Asiatica
- Green tea extract
- Aloe vera
These ingredients can help calm irritated skin and reduce inflammation.
Treating Chapped Lips
Lips are particularly vulnerable to winter dryness. In addition to using Aquaphor, consider investing in a dedicated lip treatment with ingredients like:
- Shea butter
- Vitamin E
- Beeswax
- Hyaluronic acid
Apply liberally throughout the day and before bed for optimal protection.
Lifestyle Tips for Healthy Winter Skin
While using the right products is crucial, certain lifestyle adjustments can also significantly impact your skin’s health during winter:
- Use a humidifier: Adding moisture to indoor air can help prevent skin dryness.
- Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water supports skin hydration from the inside out.
- Limit hot showers: Hot water can strip skin of natural oils. Opt for lukewarm water instead.
- Wear protective clothing: Shield your skin from harsh winds with scarves, gloves, and appropriate outerwear.
- Eat a skin-friendly diet: Incorporate foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants to support skin health.
The Importance of Consistency in Winter Skincare
Achieving healthy winter skin isn’t about using a single miracle product. Instead, it’s about creating a consistent routine that addresses your skin’s changing needs throughout the season. Here are some tips for maintaining a effective winter skincare regimen:
- Cleanse gently once or twice daily
- Apply serums to damp skin for better absorption
- Use a rich moisturizer morning and night
- Don’t forget often-neglected areas like neck, hands, and feet
- Exfoliate once a week to remove dead skin cells (but don’t overdo it)
- Always finish your morning routine with sunscreen
By following these steps consistently, you’re more likely to maintain healthy, comfortable skin throughout the winter months.
When to Seek Professional Help
While many winter skin issues can be managed at home with over-the-counter products, there are times when it’s best to consult a dermatologist. Consider seeking professional help if you experience:
- Severe or persistent dryness that doesn’t respond to moisturizers
- Intense itching or irritation
- Unusual rashes or skin changes
- Worsening of existing skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis
A dermatologist can provide personalized advice and may recommend prescription treatments if necessary.
Winter skincare doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. By understanding your skin’s needs and using the right products consistently, you can maintain a healthy, radiant complexion even in the harshest winter conditions. Remember, everyone’s skin is unique, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different products to find what works best for you. With the right care and attention, you can keep your skin happy and healthy until spring arrives.

Winter has officially kicked off, and with colder months comes a change in humidity, exposure to indoor heaters, and blustery winds that actually can make skin feel drier and look duller. In order to guard against cold weather-induced concerns like dryness and flaky skin, you may need to make a few adjustments to your winter skin-care routine. Thankfully, combatting wintertime’s cold, dry air won’t require an entirely new, luxury regimen — all you need is a few dermatologist-approved recommendations to keep you and your skin covered until spring.
According to Tiffany J. Libby, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and director of Mohs micrographic and dermatologic surgery at Brown University, rough, dry skin, also referred to as xerosis, is one of the biggest skin-care concerns her clients come across when winter weather is in full effect. “Our skin is a dynamic organ, interfacing with the external environment constantly, so in the winter when the air is cold and dry it can strip the skin of its moisture, leaving it feeling dry, itchy, and irritated,” she said. “Even when indoors, the use of heaters can be drying which can further exacerbate this.”
Kim Nichols, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Greenwich, Connecticut, also agrees that dryness is one of the biggest winter-centric concerns of her clients, but other skin health matters that rise when the temperature lowers include redness, rosacea flare-ups, and UV damage. “It is so important to slather on sunscreen year-round, not just in the summertime,” she says. “Winter sun combined with snow glare can still damage your skin.” Dr. Nichols recommends applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 30 to your face, hands, and all exposed areas of skin about 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply frequently (about every two hours) if you stay outside a long time.
If any of these skin-care concerns are on your mind (and your skin), these dermatologist-approved skin-care products are exactly what you need. Below, take a look at some of the most effective formulas for addressing your wintertime skin needs, no matter how chilly the weather gets.
The Allure Best of Beauty-winning SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 is like a cashmere sweater for your skin. It feels buttery and leaves skin with a velvet-smooth texture, plus, Dr. Nichols gives its ceramide-spiked formula two thumbs up for tackling dryness and flaking caused by cold air.
To address dryness from the neck down, Dr. Nichols says to switch over to a richer body lotion like the EltaMD Moisture-Rich Body Creme. This custardy, thick body cream is suitable for dry and sensitive skin types alike, thanks to its fragrance-free, skin-enhancing blend of hydrating hyaluronic acid and moisture-locking mango seed butter. As an added bonus, this body lotion is also infused with niacinamide, an ingredient known for its brightening and acne-addressing properties.
To ease dryness, adding a hydrating serum into your regimen is essential, but you don’t have to splurge on an expensive one to see results. One of our team’s favorite skin-quenching serums is The Inkey List’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum, a 2022 Allure Best of Beauty winner that instantly absorbs into the skin while treating it to hyaluronic acid, which holds 1,000 times its weight in water.
When it comes to moisture-retaining classics, little comes close to the powers of Aquaphor’s Healing Ointment, which is beloved by Dr. Nichols for addressing chapped areas of skin like the lips and feet. This fragrance-free mixture of petroleum jelly, mineral oil, glycerin, and lanolin acts as an emollient to seal in moisture and soften skin without irritating sensitive skin types.
Yes, the Caudalie Premier Cru The Cream is technically targeted towards fine lines and wrinkles. But, considering the fact that this Allure Best of Beauty winner is infused with hyaluronic acid, it’s also the perfect fit for your winter skin-care routine. This pick won our highest accolade in our rich moisturizer category for its custardy texture and intensively conditioning formula.
When it comes to managing weather-induced sensitivity and redness, both Dr. Nichols and James Y. Wang, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Los Angeles, recommend opting for a gentle cleanser with moisture-replenishing ingredients, like the La Roche Posay Lipikar Wash AP+. “This cleanser avoids over-stripping the skin of natural oils, which are needed to protect the skin barrier against the elements,” says Dr. Wang. This face and body wash is infused with a trio of conditioning shea butter, moisture-sealing glycerin, and brightening niacinamide for your best complexion yet.
Sunscreen is the biggest non-negotiable product in your skin-care routine, so treat your skin to the very best — which is actually this under-$20 drugstore sunscreen, according to Dr. Nichols. The CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 is a mineral-based formula that guards the skin against UV rays while hydrating it with a powerhouse duo of ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

Dry, chapped hands can happen to just about anyone during the winter, so keep your paws moisturized with the Allure Best of Beauty-winning Evolvetogether Hand Cream. This delightful formula intensely moisturizes with glycerin and antioxidant vitamins B5, C, and E without leaving a greasy film behind. It comes in three different scents that smell oh-so luxe, including the warm, spicy Havana, rose-forward Monaco, and lavender-vanilla Provence.
Dr. Libby says the Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel is packed with skin-conditioning additives to smooth and soften your face and body all winter long. “It’s an intensive moisturizer, formulated with only 3 percent water, with the rest of the ingredients being emollients like shea butter, humectants like glycerin and urea, and skin barrier-supporting and soothing ingredients like vitamin B3,” she says.
Another winter go-to for Dr. Libby is the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. This conditioning concoction contains a mix of emollients and humectants like glycerin, glyceryl stearate, sweet almond oil, and vitamin E for maximum moisture retention.
When your lips are feeling chapped and dry, Dr. Libby says to whip out the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. This ever-iconic lip mask has won Allure Best of Beauty and Readers’ Choice Awards for its vitamin C- and shea butter-rich blend that smooths and softens lips overnight, and even Dr. Libby says she “can’t live without it. “
Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser is tough on buildup, makeup, and grime, but super gentle on tired, sensitive, and dry skin. It cleanses via Poloxamer, a powerful but kind cleansing agent that won’t strip your skin; rosewater to soothe; and comfrey root extract, a healing herb that comforts stressed skin. It also contains pro-vitamin B5, a naturally-occurring moisturizer, and aquaxl, an ingredient that plumps the skin and improves barrier function to prevent moisture loss. It’s massaged onto dry skin as a jelly; then once water is added, it transforms into a milky consistency.
Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you; your skin can actually become duller in the winter months. To brighten your complexion while sloughing away dullness-inducing dead skin, exfoliate about once a week with The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, which has received much buzz in the skin-care community for its potency and price tag. This 10-minute at-home peel promotes cell turnover to reveal radiant, happy skin.

For a heavier oil option, consider Sunday Riley’s Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil. It’s formulated with a complex blend of antioxidant-rich, highly moisturizing botanical oils, including blueberry seed oil, chardonnay grape seed oil, and broccoli seed oil. It feels thick on the skin, but in a comforting way, and takes a good 15 minutes before it’s completely soaked up. Apply before bed, in the early morning, or try adding a couple of drops to your foundation for a more hydrating base.
Seal your winter skin-care routine with a sturdy cream, which should be applied after toners, oils, and serums. Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream is a unique option because of its proprietary hydropatches that suck moisture from the air to your skin. The formula further moisturizes with rose and plum seed oils while angelica leaf helps retain that moisture, hyaluronic acid plumps, and rosewater calms and nourishes.
Another great winter pick-me-up is Peter Thomas Roth’s Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches. Thirty pairs are delivered in a jar that’s been filled with a luxe blend of hyaluronic acid to plump, ceramides to strengthen and lock in moisture, hydrolyzed collagen to promote elasticity, antioxidants to brighten and protect, and pro-vitamin B5 to hydrate and soothe.
Reach for Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask if you have seriously stressed skin that needs an instant pick-me-up. This five-minute gel mask feels cool against your skin and contains ultra-soothing ingredients to calm, brighten, soften, and generously moisturize. As the product name makes obvious, it contains hand-picked calendula petals, an anti-inflammatory superhero ingredient that reduces redness and swelling; and aloe vera, a longtime soothing, hydrating fave.

26 Winter Skin Care Products 2022 To Add To Your Routine
As the seasons change, so should your beauty routines. And so, it’s time to select the best winter skin-care products that work to keep skin healthy while it battles the colder temperatures.
“I always recommend introducing different products into a routine during the winter as this is when skin tends to be a bit more dry and dehydrated,” says New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss. “Skin lacks moisture in cold, dry climates; therefore, you want to load on all the hydration you can get. However, one constant you should always have in your routine no matter the season, is sunscreen.”
In order to successfully transition to a new routine, Dr. Corey L. Hartman, board-certified dermatologist and founder of Skin Wellness Dermatology in Birmingham, Alabama, recommends you swap serums and lotions for oils, emollients, creams, and ointments. “These vehicles help to strengthen the skin barrier to lock in moisture and hydration and prevent transepidermal water loss.”
“Decrease the use of harsh soap and reduce the temperature of the water used to cleanse. Incorporate a humidifier indoors while sleeping to add an extra level of hydration while you sleep,” he adds. He also cautions against harsh or excessive exfoliation, making sure to pair cleansers with moisturizing ingredients like squalane, glycerin, and ceramides. “Be mindful of the active ingredients like retinol, hydroxy acids, astringents, and alcohols, which can cause dryness and need to be moderated during the winter months. Just because your skin can tolerate them during warmer seasons doesn’t mean they can be used in the winter.”
To aid your next skin-care haul, four beauty experts walk us through the best products to add to your routine this winter, based on your skin concern.
If You Have Dryness
Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel
“The Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel is a unique formulation that gives the finish of a body oil in a thicker vehicle that is easier to spread and less messy,” Hartman explains. “It’s the perfect final seal for an impaired skin barrier during the harsh winter months when transepidermal water loss increases and skin becomes dry and irritated.”
SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 242
“SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 242 is a dream cream that’s an easy sell even with its higher price tag,” Hartman says. “It contains free fatty acids, cholesterol, and glycerin, but is not heavy or greasy. It provides hydration and skin barrier repair as it absorbs into the skin, making it look and feel instantly brighter and smoother.” Idriss says this “is great for more mature skin types needing hydration, as it includes essential lipids within the formula.”
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
“The La Roche-Posay Ciclafate B5 is an excellent addition to any winter skin routine as it is perfectly formulated to soothe the skin, [and] repair the skin barrier while adding moisture,” said dermatologist Dr. Alexis Stephens.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser
“You also want to switch your cleanser over to [something] more hydrating that won’t remove your natural oils or disrupt your skin barrier,” adds Stephens, who recommends the La Roche Posay Hydrating Cleanser in lieu of winter skin-care products.
Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Barrier Repair Moisturizer
Rachel Roff, esthetician and founder of Urban Skin Rx, recommends the Even Tone Barrier Repair Moisturizer from her line to treat dry, winter skin. “This new product contains squalane and ceramides for hydration and skin repair,” Roff says.
Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Moisturizer
“The Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Moisturizer is helpful for dry skin because the squalene penetrates skin on a cellular level, helping to lock in moisture,” Roff says.
If You Have Skin Sensitivity & Irritation
Avène Antirougeurs Calm Soothing Repair Mask
“This Avène mask has a green tint to neutralize redness and soothes irritation using a hydra-nourishing complex,” Hartman says. The formula is fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic, meaning it’s gentle on skin, and won’t clog pores.
First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser
“The First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser is a gentle cleanser that uses aloe and allantoin to soothe the skin,” Roff says of this creamy formula.
Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Serum
“Versed’s Press Restart Retinol Serum is specifically formulated for sensitive skin, using bakuchiol and encapsulated retinol,” Roff explains. Basically, add this to your winter skin-care routine if you’re hoping to gently improve skin texture.
Vaseline Original Unscented Petroleum Jelly
“Vaseline includes 100% pure petroleum jelly, so it helps with extreme dryness, chafing, and any wind burns during the winter months,” Idriss says of the timeless formula.
If You Have Hyperpigmentation
SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum
“The SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum is a great brightening serum that targets hyperpigmentation and is powered by niacinamide and tetrapeptide-30, to help brighten while supporting a healthy skin barrier,” Idriss says.
Urban Skin Rx Advanced Even Tone Day & Night Treatment
“The Urban Skin Rx Advanced Even Tone Day & Night Treatment uses niacinamide, tranexamic acid, kojic acid, and bakuchiol to fade the appearance of dark marks and even out skin tone,” Roff explains.
Topicals Faded Serum
“The Topicals Faded Serum combines tranexamic acid, niacinamide, azelaic acid, and kojic acid into one moisturizing cream anchored with jojoba seed oil and shea butter to combine a mean and mostly natural lightning punch,” Hartman says.
Murad Vitamin C Glycolic Brightening Serum
“I recommend Murad Vitamin C Glycolic Brightening Serum during the winter months as it includes vitamin C and glycolic acid to help with hyperpigmentation and dullness; however, it is gentle enough for sensitive skin types,” Idriss says.
If You Have Dull Skin
Revision Skincare C+ Correcting Complex 30%
“Revision C+ Correcting Complex is a do-it-all vitamin C that eliminates irritation and can be used by a variety of skin types,” Hartman explains. “The lightweight formulation packs an antioxidant punch that brightens the skin and restores a more even, youthful skin surface.”
Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum
“The Sunday Riley C. E.O 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum is a great product because of the strong percentage of vitamin C which acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory to your skin, so it’s protected against free radicals and appears brighter,” Roff explains.
If You Have Skin Texture & Congestion
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Pore Perfecting Moisturizer
“Dr. Dennis Gross’ Pore Perfecting Moisturizer is oil-free and powered with alpha and beta acids to reduce the appearance of pores and speed up the natural cell turnover,” Roff says. Furthermore, it is packed with ceramides, squalane, and benzoyl peroxide to refine pores and strengthen the skin barrier.
Heraux Molecular Anti-Inflammaging Serum
According to Hartman, “Heraux Molecular Anti-Inflammaging Serum contains a specialized ingredient called HX-1 that acts as a guardian against stress molecules, thus shielding stem cells from the harmful effects of oxidative stress. It has a silky and lightweight texture, a pleasant, light fragrance and it absorbs into the skin quickly. ”
Skinbetter AlphaRet Exfoliating Peel Pads
“Skinbetter Science AlphaRet Exfoliating Peel Pads are great for the colder months since they are not so harsh on the skin as they include a unique technology that is made up of a combination of a retinoid and an alpha hydroxy acid, along with a triple-acid blend of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid,” Idriss says.
Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray
“The Tower 28 Daily Rescue Facial Spray is one of the nicest products out there because of the size of the hypochlorous acid,” Idriss says. “Spray it on your mask throughout the day or even directly on your face as it can help any breakout while hydrating.”
If You Have Aging Skin
SkinMedica TNS Advanced+ Serum
“SkinMedica TNS Advanced+ Serum contains growth factors that teach the skin how to “think young” again. It is on the pricier side, but contains not only growth factors and peptides, but also an antioxidant blend to show improvements in the skin tone and texture in the first four weeks,” Hartman says. “It’s the closest thing to a do-it-all serum.”
L’Oréal Revitalift Derm Intensives Night Serum
“L’Oréal Revitalift Derm Intensives Night Serum is a potent form of retinol, great for aging skin; however, it still includes soothing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin to help with sensitive skin during the colder months,” Idriss says.
Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Face Cream
“Skinfix Barrier + Triple Lipid Peptide Cream is deeply hydrating and aids with fine lines, wrinkles, dryness, and loss of firmness and elasticity,” Roff says.
Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Retinoid Night Oil
“Layer [the Skinfix cream] over Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil—a gentle retinol night oil that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and redness, and [also] hydrates,” Roff says.
Winter skincare
Protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation has become a good habit for many. Cold is often not a concern. Protecting ourselves from frost, we put on outerwear, but leave the skin of the face “as is”. Meanwhile, on every square centimeter of the epidermis there are 20 receptors susceptible to cold! Compare: there are only 3 heat receptors in the same area. This means that in winter our skin needs protection no less than in summer. And even more! During this period, additional funds should appear in your care. Let’s talk about how to pick them up.

What and how affects the skin in winter
Our skin in winter is affected by:
- Low temperatures, especially frost. Vessels constrict, the upper layer of the epidermis is less supplied with blood, the exchange slows down, the skin becomes dull, the cells exfoliate more slowly. In response to low temperatures, the skin begins to “defend itself” – it produces cytokines – signal molecules that provoke a number of changes in the epidermis. The skin becomes thicker, rougher, takes on a grayish tint, and the sebaceous glands produce less sebum, which leads to dehydration.
- Air humidity reduction. In winter, air humidity is reduced, which provokes overdrying of the skin.
- Temperature changes. Temperature fluctuations put a serious strain on the blood vessels, which either narrow in the cold or expand in the heat, which often causes a vascular network to appear on the face. The ability of cells to produce hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin decreases, plus overdrying and – “hello wrinkles”.
- Central heating. Central heating dries out the air in the room. And even if you have a powerful humidifier at home, in the office your skin suffers from dryness and dust.
- Snow and wind. Cold wind speeds up moisture loss, and ice microcrystals injure the skin, making it vulnerable to bacteria and infections. In winter, irritation often appears on the skin, especially on dry skin.
- Changing the drinking regimen. In cold weather, our natural need for fluid intake decreases, which negatively affects the moisture reserves in the epidermis.
So, one of the key skin problems in winter is dehydration. Almost each of the above factors affects the level of moisture in the epidermis. Therefore, the main task is hydration. The second problem is the depletion of the protective barrier and the vulnerability of the skin to adverse external factors. Therefore, the second task is to protect the skin from cold and precipitation.
It is important to remember that due to the decrease in moisture levels in winter, the skin produces less sebum, so oily skin becomes closer to normal, normal to dry, and dry to hypersensitive. Based on this, it is necessary to select care.
Purification
Cleansing in winter should be gentle. Use only mild enzymatic peels or products with a low percentage of AHA acids without scrubbing particles. Frequency of use: for dry and normal skin – once a week; for oily and combination – twice a week.

Winter lip care
The skin on the lips is thinner than on the face. It is prone to overdrying, and frequent contact with moisture (saliva, wet breath) provokes the appearance of wrinkles and even painful cracks in winter. Apply a protective lip balm not only before leaving the house, but also at night for enhanced skin nutrition. If you use decorative cosmetics, use a balm as a primer or change your usual lipstick for a nourishing product with color pigments. If there are no cracks and inflammations on the lips, use a special lip peel once a week to exfoliate dead cells and enhance skin regeneration.

Hand care
The skin of the hands has fewer sebaceous glands compared to other parts of the body. In winter, it often suffers from dehydration, cracks, itches and becomes covered with a fine network of wrinkles. Apply sunscreen and gloves half an hour before leaving the house. In the evening, add dense nourishing creams. Use a light moisturizer after every hand wash.

In winter weather, the temptation is great to bask in a hot shower, but it is undesirable to do so. Water above 37°C dries the skin. In the cold season, it can crack, especially around the elbows, knees, and feet. It is better to take a shower or bath with water no higher than 35 ° C. Use detergents with oils in the composition, which do not form abundant foam. So you will avoid overdrying of the skin and violation of its hydrolipidic barrier. After showering, apply creams and/or lotion to lock in moisture and nourish the skin. Scrub with nutrients once a week will help increase blood circulation and cell regeneration.

Remember vitamins
In the cold season, the number of colds increases, the immune system is seriously stressed, and the skin is no exception. Vitamins and minerals will help support cells from the inside. In winter, give preference to vitamins C, E, A, D and group B, as well as minerals: iron, copper, zinc, selenium, sulfur and silicon. Of course, they should be drunk in combination, taking into account mutual influence and bioavailability, and therefore choose nutrients from world brands that develop formulas themselves and carefully test their products.

Frosty stories: 6 principles of skin care in winter – Seasonal care – Winter – Blog
Not using a nourishing cream in winter is the same as going for a walk without a hat and scarf in severe frost: in youth you can still afford it, although it is undesirable, but in adulthood it is already fraught with consequences, and somehow you don’t really want to … In general, the cold season is not the time to break the rules.
What are the rules? This is what we will find out now!
Maintain optimal air humidity
The main goal in the cold period is to prevent overdrying and dehydration of the skin. Only tightly closed windows and hot radiators make this task much more difficult. Keep your apartment well ventilated and get a humidifier if you don’t already have one – it’s the best winter skincare investment ever! Place the device in the room where you spend the most time to create a favorable microclimate in it, and it will immediately become easier to breathe, and positive changes will not be long in coming.
If you can’t buy a humidifier yet, you can save the day with thermal water and moisturizing mists. Spray liberally throughout the day whenever you feel tight, dry, or just whenever you want. Most importantly, do not apply them immediately before going outside. At sub-zero temperatures, water droplets on the surface of the skin will turn into ice and can injure it.

Grape water is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, so it not only moisturizes the skin, but also makes the tone fresher, brighter, and improves tone. The bottle is equipped with a fine spray of continuous action, so the product does not fall on the skin with drops, but with a light veil – very pleasant!
Wash with gentle products
Exhausted by frost and dryness, the skin loses its natural protective barrier, becomes more sensitive to various irritants. Even the usual means can become enemies of the skin – cause irritation and redness – if their formulas are not gentle enough. First of all, this applies to all kinds of “washers”: from micellar water to foam or cleansing gel.
Try complementing your skin care routine with oil-based cleansers and gentle foams that gently lift away impurities and excess sebum without breaking the thin protective layer.

Syndet (syndet – from syntetic detergent, “synthetic cleaner”) – a category of ultra-soft cleansers with a neutral pH, designed specifically for dry, sensitive and reactive skin. The oily texture does not leave a greasy feeling, but at the same time creates a protective barrier that prevents drying out.

Delicate creamy texture based on natural plant extracts (chamomile, oats, mimosa, aloe vera) turns into a soft foam upon contact with water and gently removes impurities, acting as the second, final stage of skin cleansing.
Monitor water temperature
In winter, of course, you want to warm up: turn on the heat in the shower or lie down in the bath longer. I want to, but don’t: too hot water, as well as too long water procedures, dries out the skin. Therefore, we bathe in moderately warm water, intensively care for the body with the help of nourishing creams and oils, and in order not to freeze, we wrap ourselves in a cozy warm bathrobe.
If the skin is already dry, controlling the temperature is not enough, you will also need a gentle shower gel. Of course, you need to get used to this option – the texture almost does not foam, but the skin after this remedy feels just fine.

The cream contains 5% urea, which quickly and effectively softens rough, dry areas on the body. And most importantly, the effect is not fleeting – the skin remains moisturized for up to 48 hours.
Essential oils give cosmetics a pleasant aroma and a whole bunch of useful properties, but they can cause irritation on dry, damaged skin. They are not included in this product – the care is gentle, delicate, but quite intense.
Choose dense textures
Everything is like in a wardrobe: imagine that your favorite moisturizing gel is a flowered summer sundress, and a greasy cream is a down jacket. I would like, of course, to go to the first all year round, but common sense screams that now is the time for the second option.
Now, to the point: products that are quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a trace, we will postpone until better (warm) times. In winter, dense, enveloping textures are needed that can replace a thinned lipid barrier. A layer of nourishing cream or balm will create an invisible layer on the skin that protects from wind and cold. And also – it will enhance and prolong the effect of any product that you apply under it (for example, serums or emulsions).
Do not forget to follow the same rule as with moisturizing sprays: apply any care at least 40 minutes before going outside, so that everything has time to be absorbed.
Formulated with active complexes Nutri-omega 3-6-9, Hydra-nourishing and polysaccharides in a special bioavailable form, “repairs” the natural lipid barrier of the skin, making it more resistant to external stimuli. At the same time, the cream is not greasy, not sticky, it is quickly absorbed, making the face smooth and velvety.

The formula based on natural oils and waxes is specially designed for skin care in frosty, windy weather. It also nourishes very well and is suitable for very dry sensitive skin.
An all-purpose protector suitable for very dry areas on all parts of the face and body. It will help get rid of the “chicks” on the hands, heal the elbows cracked from dryness, or restore the skin on the wings of the nose after a runny nose.
Exfoliate without fanaticism
Dry and dehydrated skin becomes rough, rough to the touch, keratinized scales begin to peel off. It would seem that what is easier is to use exfoliating products to combat peeling, because even the name itself hints that they are designed to solve this problem.
No luck: too aggressive exfoliation will only exacerbate the problem and can cause irritation on thin skin. This also applies to scrubs with abrasive particles, and chemical (acid) peels.
However, you should not completely abandon exfoliation either: you need to remove the layer of dead cells so that the active ingredients of the care can freely penetrate the skin, and the face shone in spite of all adversity. Therefore, we keep the measure: we use peelings no more than 1-2 times a week and choose softer formulas.
Roll-up gel with moisturizing ingredients exfoliates in the most delicate way: cellulose fibers in its composition cling to keratinized particles and gather into soft “pellets” without injuring the skin.
The main active ingredient of this peeling is lactic acid, known for its gentle, non-aggressive action. The composition of the product also included d-panthenol and allantoin – soothing and softening components that prevent the appearance of irritation.

Sun protection
Repetition is the mother of learning, and SPF is the head of everything. Well, something like this! Without further ado, why sunscreen should be used all year round and even indoors – everyone already knows that long-wavelength rays (UVA) freely penetrate clouds and through glass, right?
During the period of low solar activity, of course, you can reduce the degree of protection. SPF 15-30 in winter is enough to protect against photoaging and the damaging effects of free radicals.

Light foundation is perfect for everyday use – its formula is 83% natural ingredients, leaves a beautiful radiant finish and contains UV filters. The texture of the product contains encapsulated pigments – when applied, the granules burst, and the cream adjusts to the skin tone.
Of course, there are exceptions to any rule. For example, if you live in a region where the air temperature rarely crosses the negative threshold in winter, then you most likely will not need to radically change the care system. However, it must be borne in mind that the condition of the skin in different seasons is influenced not only by external factors, but also by internal ones. So, in winter, the sebaceous glands work less actively, and the natural processes of skin renewal slow down – both of which, as a result, can lead to peeling, and frost has nothing to do with it.
Therefore, we advise you to play ahead of the curve: add moisture, nutrition, remove too aggressive cleansers and powerful peels from your “beauty diet”, without waiting for a negative skin reaction.
