30-year-old Princess Eugenie was diagnosed with scoliosis – a medical condition in which a person’s spine has a sideways curve – when she was just 12. An operation to correct it left the Princess with a long spine leading from the nape of her neck downwards, and in recent years she’s not been shy about showing it off (see below).

But in celebration of International Scoliosis Awareness Day, she shared a clear photograph of her scar on Instagram as a means of encouraging anyone out there who’s gone through something similar to share theirs, too. “Let’s be proud of our scars!” she wrote.
