Understanding White Claw’s Nutritional Profile

White Claw has gained immense popularity as a refreshing alcoholic beverage, but many keto dieters wonder if it fits into their low-carb lifestyle. To determine its keto-friendliness, we need to examine White Claw’s nutritional content closely.

A standard 12-ounce can of White Claw contains:

  • 100 calories
  • 2 grams of carbohydrates
  • 0 grams of protein
  • 0 grams of fat
  • 5% alcohol by volume (ABV)

With only 2 grams of carbs per serving, White Claw is indeed a low-carb option compared to many other alcoholic beverages. This makes it a potentially suitable choice for those following a ketogenic diet, which typically restricts carbohydrate intake to 20-50 grams per day.

White Claw Flavors and Their Keto Compatibility

White Claw offers a variety of flavors, each with slightly different nutritional profiles. Here’s a breakdown of some popular White Claw flavors and their carb content:

  • Natural Lime: 2g carbs
  • Black Cherry: 2g carbs
  • Mango: 2g carbs
  • Raspberry: 2g carbs
  • Ruby Grapefruit: 2g carbs

Interestingly, White Claw has also introduced a new line of flavors with even lower calorie and carb counts:

  • Watermelon: 0g net carbs, 70 calories
  • Pineapple: 0g net carbs, 70 calories
  • Lemon: 0g net carbs, 70 calories
  • Clementine: 0g net carbs, 70 calories

These newer options are particularly appealing for keto dieters looking to minimize their carb intake while still enjoying a flavored alcoholic beverage.

The Impact of Alcohol on Ketosis

While White Claw may be low in carbs, it’s crucial to consider the impact of alcohol itself on ketosis. Alcohol can temporarily halt fat burning as your body prioritizes metabolizing the alcohol. This doesn’t necessarily kick you out of ketosis, but it can slow down your progress.

Additionally, alcohol can lower inhibitions and potentially lead to poor food choices. It’s important to be mindful of this and plan accordingly if you choose to include White Claw or other alcoholic beverages in your keto diet.

Moderation is Key

As with any alcoholic beverage on a ketogenic diet, moderation is crucial. While a single White Claw may fit into your daily carb limit, consuming multiple cans could quickly add up and potentially disrupt ketosis.

Comparing White Claw to Other Low-Carb Alcoholic Options

To put White Claw’s keto-friendliness into perspective, let’s compare it to other popular low-carb alcoholic beverages:

  • Vodka soda: 0g carbs
  • Gin and diet tonic: 0g carbs
  • Light beer: 2-7g carbs (varies by brand)
  • Dry wine (5 oz): 3-4g carbs
  • Whiskey neat: 0g carbs

As we can see, White Claw holds its own among these low-carb options, making it a viable choice for keto dieters who prefer a flavored, ready-to-drink beverage.

Alternatives to White Claw for Keto Dieters

If you’re looking for alternatives to White Claw that are equally keto-friendly, consider these options:

  1. Truly Hard Seltzer: Similar to White Claw, with 2g carbs per can
  2. Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer: 1g carbs per can
  3. Bon & Viv Spiked Seltzer: 0g carbs per can
  4. High Noon Sun Sips: 2.6g carbs per can
  5. Homemade vodka soda with sugar-free flavoring

These alternatives provide variety while still keeping carb counts low, allowing keto dieters to enjoy a refreshing alcoholic beverage without derailing their diet.

Tips for Incorporating White Claw into a Keto Diet

If you decide to include White Claw in your keto diet, here are some tips to help you do so responsibly:

  • Count the carbs: Include the 2g of carbs from White Claw in your daily carb count.
  • Hydrate: Alternate between White Claw and water to stay hydrated and slow down consumption.
  • Plan ahead: If you know you’ll be drinking White Claw, adjust your carb intake from other sources that day.
  • Eat before drinking: Having a keto-friendly meal before drinking can help minimize the impact on your blood sugar and reduce the likelihood of making poor food choices later.
  • Choose wisely: Opt for the 70-calorie, 0g net carb flavors when possible for even less impact on your carb intake.

The Bottom Line on White Claw and Keto

In conclusion, White Claw can be considered keto-friendly due to its low carb content. However, it’s essential to remember that just because a beverage fits within your carb limit doesn’t mean it’s beneficial for your overall health and weight loss goals.

Alcohol should be consumed in moderation on any diet, including keto. If you choose to drink White Claw while following a ketogenic diet, do so mindfully and account for the carbs in your daily intake. As always, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian before making significant changes to your diet or alcohol consumption habits.

Frequently Asked Questions About White Claw and Keto

Can I drink White Claw every day on keto?

While technically possible to fit a White Claw into your daily carb limit, it’s not recommended to consume alcohol daily on any diet, including keto. Occasional consumption is fine, but daily drinking can hinder weight loss and overall health goals.

Will White Claw kick me out of ketosis?

A single White Claw is unlikely to kick you out of ketosis due to its low carb content. However, excessive consumption or pairing it with high-carb foods could potentially disrupt ketosis.

Are there any White Claw flavors to avoid on keto?

All standard White Claw flavors contain the same amount of carbs (2g per can). However, opting for the newer 70-calorie versions with 0g net carbs is even better for strict keto dieters.

How does White Claw compare to beer on keto?

White Claw is generally a better option than most beers for keto dieters. While light beers can have similar carb counts (2-7g), regular beers often contain 10-20g of carbs per serving, making them much less keto-friendly.

Can I lose weight drinking White Claw on keto?

Weight loss is possible while including White Claw in a keto diet, but it depends on overall calorie intake and lifestyle factors. Alcohol can slow weight loss for some people, so moderation is key if fat loss is your primary goal.

Remember, while White Claw can be incorporated into a ketogenic diet, it’s crucial to prioritize nutrient-dense whole foods and maintain a balanced approach to nutrition and lifestyle for optimal health and weight management.

I have been diligently reducing my carb intake using the Keto Diet over the last few months. Lately, I have been looking for low carb cocktails to drink when I go out with my friends. I saw White Claw at the grand opening party the other day and was wondering –

Is White Claw Keto?

On my low carb diet, I have lost  14 pounds so far which is wonderful, but I have a long way to go. My goal is to lose about 50 lbs. It is not an easy feet juggling working 50 + hours per week, having a 1st grader to do homework with and play with, and spending time with family and friends on the weekend.

I feel like there are so many hidden calories that come out on the weekends when I am spending time with family and friends. Everyone is cooking high-calorie meals and pouring high-calorie drinks.

I have started bringing low carb food and drinks so that I can control what is going into my body. I bring this cauliflower mac and cheese to fill up on while I am at parties. Of course, I bring enough for everyone so that I am not excluding anyone who wants to cut calories too.

Low Carb Cocktails

I also bring my low carb drinks to the weekend parties so that I know how many calories I am drinking. I found a low carb cocktail that is easy to bring with me to parties. It is called White Claw Hard Seltzer.

White Claw is like drinking sparking water. It is 100% natural, low carb and gluten free sparkling seltzer water with 5% alcohol. It is like drink just a hint of fruit. White Claw is a great alternative drinking low carb cocktails like vodka sodas that have zero carbs, but are very strong.

With a White Claw, you get a bit of fruit flavoring and the gluten free alcohol flavor is masked by the fruit blend of seltzer water. It’s awesome!

White Claw Nutrition Facts

The flavors Natural Lime, Mango, Black Cherry, Ruby Grapefruit, and Raspberry White Claw are 100 calories and have 2 net carbs. This carb count is amazing considering that there are 4 carbs in a 5 ounce glass of wine. This is 2 carbs in a 12 ounce can.

The new White Claw flavors watermelon, pineapple, lemon, and clementine are 70 calories and have zero net carbs.

Is White Claw Keto?

Yes, White Claw is Keto. It has two to zero net carbs making it ideal for those of us on the Ketogenic Diet.

White Claw Flavors

White Claw alcoholic drinks come in these awesome flavors: Natural Lime, Raspberry, Mango, Black Cherry and Ruby Grapefruit. My favorites are Black Cherry and Mango.

White Claw recently came out with 70 calorie flavors of watermelon, pineapple, lemon, and clementine that have zero net carbs.

Truly vs White Claw

I am ordering both of them to see what tastes better.

How Many White Claws to Get Drunk?

This is obviously based on tolerance. The alcohol content is  5% alc/vol. Beer contains between 4-7% ABV, with the average being 5%.

The standard serving size of beer is the same a White Claw. You can determine how many White Claws you can have based on how many beers you drink. Please drink responsibly!

If you don’t drink beer, you can determine based on your favorite wine.  A standard serving of wine is 5 ounces and white wine generally is on average 10% ABV. However, it can range from as little as 5% to as much as 14%.

Moscato white wines have 5-7%, pinot grigio wines may contain 12-13% alcohol, and chardonnay may have 13-14.5%. Red wine has more alcohol with 12% to 15%.3 Pinot noir and Boudreaux contain 13-14% ABV, Malbec wines contain 13.5-15%, and some Californian zinfandels and Australian shiraz wines can have ABVs as high as 16-18%.

Low Carb Drinks

Here are a few low carb cocktails that are alternatives to light beer and vodka sodas on the Keto Diet:

  • This Zesty White Wine Spritzer is a great choice if you are looking for a low carb wine spritzer.

Is White Claw Keto-Friendly? An RD Weighs In On Hard Seltzer

Is White Claw keto-friendly?

The keto diet is high in fat, moderate in protein, and very low in carbohydrates. The ratios of these macronutrients usually shakes out to: 65 to 85% fat; 15 to 35% protein; 0 to 10% carbohydrates. “Typically, most people following a keto diet keep their carb intake at 50 grams or less a day,” says Knudsen. How many carbs are in White Claw? Here’s how White Claw nutrition info stacks up:

  • Carbohydrates: 2 g
  • Protein: 0 g
  • Fat: 0 g
  • Sodium: 20 mg

As a result, Knudsen says that yes, White Claw is keto-friendly. “Sparing two of those grams for a White Claw every now and then is totally feasible.”

Are other alcoholic seltzers keto?

Knudsen’s general rule of thumb for determining keto-friendliness of an alcoholic beverage is to look for drinks with five or fewer carbs per serving. The less the better, she says! “Even a drink with five grams of carbs accounts for 10% of the maximum amount of carbs you may have allotted for the day.”

Knudsen warns anyone on the keto diet to steer clear of sugary drinks like margaritas, sangria, and daiquiris. “Any drink with fruit juice, sweetened sodas, or simple syrups are going to be loaded with carbs and could knock you out of ketosis in a snap. I would also think twice before selecting beer as your keto drink of choice,” she says. “Opting for a light beer will still typically cost you 6 grams of carbs, and a regular beer will cost you around 13 grams.”

Her recommendation for drinking on the keto diet? Besides White Claw, she says to stick to any low-carb beverages. “If you do decide to drink, I recommend keeping to options such as red or white wine (which is around four grams of carbs per five-ounce serving), or liquor like vodka, rum, or gin (which all have zero grams of carbs) with seltzer water.”

Even though alcoholic beverages can be a part of a keto diet, Knudsen doesn’t encourage it as a regular or integral part of the diet. “I would prefer a person’s carbohydrate allowance go toward optimizing nutrition,” she says. She recommends prioritizing foods that contain important vitamins and minerals, like vegetables like broccoli, kale, zucchini, mushrooms, and red bell pepper.

The current Dietary Guidelines for Americans1 recommend that people who consume alcohol should always do it in moderation, which is defined as no more than one drink per day for women or two drinks per day for men.
