Former Dancing With the Stars pro and World of Dance judge, Derek Hough is a true performer who clearly lives through the renowned showbiz phrase, “the show must go on.” While the 34-year-old was recently seen in the NBC Christmas special, Holidays With the Houghs alongside his sister, Julianne, he revealed that while dancing and starring in the festive event, he actually suffered a gruesome and painful injury that no one at home had noticed.
While on The Kelly Clarkson Show this past month, Hough revealed that during a performance in the musical numbers of the show, he had injured himself in a dance sequence and ripped a hamstring.
“The very first move of the special I came out and did a little James Brown split and I ripped my hamstring,” Hough said while sitting beside his sister on the daytime talk show. However, Hough didn’t let that stop him. Admitting that he came up with a quick solution backstage to get himself back into a rhythm amid the pain, he decided to tape it up with “duct tape, and then just kept going.

Though it was just a temporary fix, he shared it was so painful, he was almost close to tears during the show’s introduction. “Luckily you can’t really tell but … the tears rolling down my eyes while I’m smiling,” the pro-dancer said.

Hough has had an eventful few months. In addition to the torn hamstring, Hough endured a “severe” and “sharp pain” in his abdomen this past November that led to emergency surgery in removing his appendix after things just didn’t feel “right.” In a video shared to the network, Hough explained just what happened with a plethora of fans and followers coming out in support of his recovery.

Hough shared his excitement regarding what he has learned regarding rehearsals for the series and what he believes will be a “competitive and exciting” season.
“What I hear is that the rehearsals are going great.
There are some really good dancers in the mix, so I’m really looking forward to it,” he added.
Hough also admitted he is “excited” about the return of head judge Goodman to the ballroom. The voice of traditional ballroom technique throughout 30 seasons of Dancing With the Stars, Goodman was seen briefly last season. Travel restrictions due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic halted his travel from the United Kingdom.
“I’m really excited to have Len back,” Hough exclaimed.
“I haven’t judged, sat next to him, so that’s new for me. He and I are a little bit different. He’s a little more traditional, and I’m a little more out of the box, so we’ll see how that goes, but I’m looking forward to it,” he concluded.

Warning: You may laugh so hard at this story your eye makeup will run. And according to dancing pro Derek Hough, that can be extremely dangerous.
This just might be the funniest excuse for a poor performance ever in the history of Dancing With the Stars.
In case you missed it, it was rock ‘n’ roll night on DWTS, which means the male eye makeup, aka the “guyliner,” was out in full force—and Derek tried to blame his Taylor Momsen look for his not-so-perfect paso doble with Jennifer Grey.

“This is what happened tonight,” Derek told us after the show. “The dance was going well, I told (Jennifer) to get fierce, and she was all in it. And then at the end, this eyeliner got in my eye! Then I flew off and she was off balance and it was a mess. So basically, the moral of the story is don’t wear eyeliner if you’re a guy.” You hear that Adam Lambert?
Defying all the odds, the normally struggling Bristol Palin and her pro-partner Mark Ballas were also rocking the eyeliner/guyliner look, and did much better than last week.
Gushed a proud Mark: “She did really well with this one. Out of all the dances, this was the most natural for her.” And Bristol agrees. “I’m definitely more confident with the tango,” she told us. She’s even got a new motto: “I”ve realized that if I don’t go all out, I’m going to go home.”
And then there was Rick Fox. The Lakers alum was also decked out in some serious makeup, but no excuses here. He liked it and stood behind his look du jour.
“It’s obviously left a statement,” Rick teased. “It’s never been on someone this tall before, right? (But) I was not alone in the guyliner department tonight.”
