Clean air home systems. Whole Home Residential Air Purification: The Ultimate Guide to Clean Air Systems
How does a whole home air purification system work. What are the benefits of installing a residential air purifier. Which features should you look for in a home air cleaning system. How effective are whole house air purifiers at removing pollutants.
Understanding Whole Home Air Purification Systems
Whole home air purification systems are designed to clean the air throughout your entire house, providing a comprehensive solution for indoor air quality. Unlike standalone air purifiers that only treat the air in a single room, these systems integrate with your home’s HVAC system to filter and purify air as it circulates through your ductwork.
But how exactly do these systems work? Whole home air purifiers typically use a combination of advanced filtration technologies to remove various types of air pollutants:
- High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters to capture airborne particles
- Activated carbon filters to absorb odors and chemical vapors
- UV light technology to neutralize bacteria and viruses
- Ionizers or electrostatic precipitators to charge and collect particles
By addressing multiple types of contaminants, these systems can significantly improve indoor air quality throughout your home.
The Lennox PureAir™ Air Purification System: A Closer Look
One standout product in the realm of whole home air purification is the Lennox PureAir™ Air Purification System. This system offers hospital-grade filtration and boasts several impressive features:
- Removes over 99% of the virus that causes COVID-19 from the air
- Filters out smaller viruses, bacteria, and fungal spores
- Produces zero ozone and actively removes existing ozone in the home
- Utilizes the Lennox Healthy Climate™ Carbon Clean 16® air filter
- Designed for minimal airflow resistance, ensuring efficiency
What sets the PureAir™ system apart from other air purifiers? Unlike many single-room air cleaners, the PureAir™ system provides a whole-home solution, addressing air quality in every room. It’s designed to combat three main types of indoor air pollutants: airborne particles, germs and bacteria, and chemical odors and vapors.
The Triple Threat: Tackling Particles, Germs, and Odors
Let’s break down how the PureAir™ system addresses each type of air pollutant:
Airborne Particles
The PureAir™ system filters out more than 95% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size. These microscopic particles, while invisible to the naked eye, can pose significant health risks when inhaled. By removing them from the air, the system helps create a cleaner, healthier indoor environment.
Germs and Bacteria
When it comes to microorganisms, the PureAir™ system doesn’t mess around. It’s capable of combating 90% of germs and bacteria down to 0.01 microns in size. This impressive capability helps reduce the spread of airborne illnesses within your home.
Chemical Odors and Vapors
Unpleasant odors aren’t just a nuisance; they can also indicate the presence of harmful chemicals in your air. The PureAir™ system effectively removes household odors and chemical vapors from various sources, including pets, cleaning products, and cooking appliances.
Beyond Purification: Additional Benefits of the PureAir™ System
The PureAir™ system offers several advantages beyond its primary air-cleaning functions:
Ozone Reduction
Unlike some air purifiers that generate ozone as a byproduct, the PureAir™ system doesn’t produce any ozone. In fact, its carbon filtration actually helps reduce ozone generated by other sources in your home. This is crucial because ozone is a known lung irritant that can exacerbate respiratory issues.
Energy Efficiency
The PureAir™ system provides highly effective air filtration without consuming excessive electricity. This makes it an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution for maintaining good indoor air quality.
Comprehensive Odor Control
Beyond simply masking odors, the PureAir™ system breaks down chemical smells and vapors at the molecular level. This process not only eliminates unpleasant odors but also renders potentially harmful chemical vapors harmless.
Real-World Performance: Customer Experiences with PureAir™
To get a sense of how the PureAir™ system performs in real homes, let’s look at some customer reviews:
- One customer in Southern Oregon reported that the system effectively filtered out smoke from nearby wildfires, preventing any smoke smell inside their home.
- An asthma and allergy sufferer noted significant improvement in their symptoms after installing the system, stating that their breathing improved at home.
- Some users have reported a noticeable reduction in household dust after installation.
While most reviews are positive, it’s worth noting that some customers may not see immediate dramatic results, especially in homes that already have relatively good air quality.
Comparing Whole Home Systems to Portable Air Purifiers
How do whole home air purification systems like PureAir™ stack up against portable air purifiers? Let’s examine the key differences:
Feature | Whole Home Systems | Portable Air Purifiers |
---|---|---|
Coverage Area | Entire home | Single room or small area |
Installation | Professional installation required | Plug-and-play |
Maintenance | Less frequent filter changes | More frequent filter changes |
Noise Level | Generally quieter | Can be noisy, especially at higher settings |
Energy Efficiency | Often more efficient for whole-home coverage | Less efficient when multiple units are needed |
Initial Cost | Higher upfront investment | Lower initial cost |
While portable air purifiers offer flexibility and a lower initial cost, whole home systems provide more comprehensive coverage and can be more cost-effective in the long run for larger homes.
Maximizing the Benefits of Your Whole Home Air Purification System
To get the most out of your whole home air purification system, consider these tips:
- Regular maintenance: Change filters as recommended by the manufacturer to ensure optimal performance.
- Seal air leaks: Minimize the introduction of outdoor pollutants by sealing gaps around windows and doors.
- Control humidity: Maintain indoor humidity levels between 30-50% to discourage mold growth and dust mites.
- Ventilate wisely: Use exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms to remove pollutants at the source.
- Keep it clean: Regular housekeeping can significantly reduce the load on your air purification system.
By following these practices, you can enhance the effectiveness of your whole home air purification system and maintain excellent indoor air quality.
The Future of Home Air Purification Technology
As we look to the future, what advancements can we expect in home air purification technology? Several trends are emerging:
- Smart integration: Air purification systems are becoming increasingly connected, allowing for remote monitoring and control via smartphone apps.
- Advanced sensors: Future systems may incorporate more sophisticated sensors to detect a wider range of pollutants and adjust filtration accordingly.
- Energy harvesting: Some researchers are exploring ways for air purifiers to generate their own power, potentially through solar cells or kinetic energy from airflow.
- Nanotechnology: Advancements in nanofiber filtration could lead to even more efficient particle capture without increasing air resistance.
- Bioengineered solutions: Some companies are investigating the use of genetically modified plants or bacteria to naturally purify indoor air.
These innovations could lead to even more effective and efficient whole home air purification systems in the coming years.
Making the Decision: Is a Whole Home Air Purification System Right for You?
Deciding whether to invest in a whole home air purification system like the PureAir™ depends on various factors. Consider the following questions:
- Do you or your family members suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions?
- Is your home located in an area with high levels of outdoor air pollution?
- Do you have pets that contribute to indoor air quality issues?
- Are you concerned about the potential health impacts of poor indoor air quality?
- Is your current HVAC system compatible with a whole home air purification system?
- Are you willing to invest in professional installation and ongoing maintenance?
If you answered yes to several of these questions, a whole home air purification system could be a worthwhile investment for your health and comfort.
Ultimately, the decision to install a whole home air purification system should be based on your specific needs, budget, and long-term goals for indoor air quality. Consulting with a qualified HVAC professional can help you determine the best solution for your home.
By understanding the capabilities and benefits of systems like the Lennox PureAir™, you can make an informed decision about improving the air quality in your home. Whether you’re looking to alleviate allergy symptoms, reduce odors, or simply breathe easier, a whole home air purification system could be the key to achieving the clean, healthy indoor environment you desire.

Filtered out smoke
November 29, 2020
We live in Southern Oregon, only 4 miles from the wildfires that broke out last September. The smoke outside was the thickest I have ever seen. We could not smell any smoke inside the house, due to this air purifier. It was amazing. You could go to stores and smell. the smoke inside, but not in our house.

Excellent Investment for Asthma & Allergy Sufferer
September 09, 2020
I have had this system in my home for about 5 or 6 years now. It’s been an excellent investment. It used to be that my asthma and allergies got worse when I got home at the end of the day, now my breathing improves at home. It’s especially useful to have now that we have seemingly annual smoke problems from wildfires in California where we live.

Lennox Pure Air S
February 11, 2019
I bought this and got it installed in Dec 2018 to supplement my high efficiency Lennox furnace. I didnt see much difference yet and my Lennox s30 ultra thermostat still mentions that the life remaining is 100%. I was told the life is 1 yr and so technically it should be less than 100%. The dust in my house has reduced but not to a great extent. So I am still wondering if it was worth investing….

Air purification systems
To make life in a country house “airy”, it is worth thinking about the air in it. Human civilization has done a lot to make it harder and more harmful for us to breathe, but it has also invented many means and ways to return the air to its original quality. And even add something from yourself.
The air outside the city is, of course, cleaner, but the requirements for it are higher. Therefore, air purification systems will not be superfluous. Project F-0559-0.
What a house – such and the air in it. The simplest and: a traditional country house will certainly have a simple layout and, as a result, excellent natural ventilation. As soon as the project becomes a little more complicated, ventilation will require more attention and appropriate financial investments.
The air in a country house should be clean – this is an axiom. Smog, dust, sudden fluctuations in humidity – everything that we easily forgive a big city, outside of it seems at least inappropriate. And although the homeowner is insured against smog, if the cottage is located in a place more or less remote from industrial enterprises, a lot of questions still remain open. And the first of them: what kind of air is considered correct?
Let’s ventilate the question
The main indicators of the “correct” air are its temperature and humidity level. According to sanitary and epidemiological standards, it is 20-22 C during the day, 14-15 C at night, humidity is within 40-60%. However, each of us even intuitively feels what kind of microclimate is comfortable for him. An air conditioner and a humidifier will help to set the desired parameters. Their choice on the market today is truly comprehensive, the price range is also very large, so every buyer will surely find a product for himself, according to his taste and wallet. Only now … is it worth the hurry?
Air conditioners and other smart devices will not give the desired effect, if at the design stage of your cottage, estate or country residence you did not bother to create a high-quality ventilation system. This is especially true for special-purpose premises: kitchen, bathroom, toilet, garage, swimming pool, sauna. Fresh air comes here much less frequently than even in city apartments. Sealed double-glazed windows and our eternal desire for warmth move away from it even more. If we recall the number of excellent, modern, but still artificial materials that are usually used in construction, it becomes clear: they were striving for nature, but it turned out as always.
Only professionally thought-out ventilation, including filtration, heating and removal of exhaust air, will create the basis for a healthy microclimate in the house. Its cost will automatically be included in the estimate for the design and construction of a country house. Unless, of course, you contacted a responsible company. “Forgetfulness” in the pursuit of reducing the cost of the project will definitely backfire with health problems. It is no coincidence that in many Western countries, houses without a ventilation system may be banned altogether.
Let’s define the terms
Ventilation – air exchange in rooms to remove excess moisture, heat, harmful substances.
Air conditioning – automatic maintenance of the specified air parameters in enclosed spaces.
Dusty reality
So, the foundation has been laid. Ventilation is ok. What else prevents us from breathing evenly? Do not rush to talk about the dryness of the air or the lack of ions – let’s deal with things more prosaic. For example, with dust. During the year, in an average private house, it accumulates up to 20 kg.
Where dust comes from is almost a philosophical question, but scientists have found an exact, albeit unpleasant, answer to it. Dust generates man, mostly dead particles of his skin. Domestic animals do not lag behind, about 10% of the dust is their business. All our belongings little by little crumble to dust. Let it be several thousand years before the final decomposition, but the process is underway! The neighbors of a person invisible to the eye – ticks also make their contribution.
What healthy microclimate can we talk about when all sofas, armchairs, carpets, pillows, decorative draperies are inhabited by microscopic parasitic monsters?! Although ticks themselves are not dangerous, their waste products can cause dangerous allergic and asthmatic diseases. And the most advertised vacuum cleaner will not help here: the waste products of mites are so small (a little more than an air molecule) that not a single filter will catch them. But it is known that up to 80% of the reserves of the human immune system are spent on eliminating the consequences of dust entering the body.
The power unit of the central vacuum system is usually located in the utility room, and therefore the cleaning is silent. BVC mit SIEMENS motor
Without noise and dust.
Ventilation does not solve the dust problem. On the contrary, it brings particles of dust from the street, and it becomes part of the dust of the house. An air conditioner, even with the most sophisticated filter, will not completely clean the air, and if the filter is not changed in time, it will contribute to the dust cycle in the house. Local air purification and washing systems will not solve the issue either: they cannot remove dust from a person, furniture and from distant corners. Therefore, the most effective solution is a stationary vacuum cleaner, in other words, a central dust removal system.
The estimated cost of such a system is from two and a half thousand euros for a cottage. Of course, if you decide to equip a residence with an area of about 1000 m2 with a stationary vacuum cleaner, get ready to pay an order of magnitude larger amount. But it’s worth it: according to the study already cited, cleaning with a central vacuum system reduces the concentration of dust in the air by 20%. Ticks and allergens are removed three times more efficiently than with a conventional vacuum cleaner. All this And the power of a stationary vacuum cleaner – at least 150 aerowatts – allows you to completely clean the carpet 4 cm deep in 0.3 seconds, where the most allergen-dangerous dust usually sits, inaccessible to all other means of struggle. And one more important plus: the central dust removal system is absolutely silent, its motor is taken out of the living quarters and will not disturb the household. Recall that the noise level is also one of the components of the microclimate, which in our case is more and more close to the ideal.
Air ducts MINI, MUDRYY CLIMATE
All-round air conditioning
Ventilation integrated, vacuum cleaner installed. And what about air conditioners dear to the heart of the whole civilized world? Will it really remain unclaimed? It is unlikely! Air conditioners are being improved, and already archaic “windows” and “split systems” are giving way to their much more “smart” descendants. And it is better to purchase and install them until the finishing work is completed in the house – which, in principle, applies to any modern engineering.
If you want to create individual climatic conditions in each room of your country house (otherwise why would you buy an air conditioner at all?), it is best to use the so-called multi-split systems, in which several indoor units are connected to one outdoor unit. The wiring of communications will, of course, be more complicated and expensive, but such an air conditioner is suitable for equipping the whole house. DAIKIN, HITACHI, MITSUBISHI, and several other companies offer an original “constructor” solution, where you can choose an arbitrary combination of indoor units suitable for specific rooms in size to a standard outdoor unit. Thus, you will deprive yourself of the “joy” of paying for inefficiently spent kilowatts. Although initially, for the arrangement of a small country house, you still have to pay about two to five thousand euros.
A duct-type split system (when air is distributed through air ducts hidden behind a suspended ceiling) is perhaps the only air conditioner that can replace ventilation. True, its installation will cost the owner of a two-story cottage even more, from 7-8 thousand euros. And that’s just the lower price range. An intelligent air conditioning system that allows its owner to completely forget about the necessary climate parameters in the house, but simply enjoy clean air and feel great, will add 1-1.5 thousand euros for the arrangement of each zone.
Super Multi Plus System (RMXS-E). DAIKIN
Ancient Roman wisdom
The mini-duct system of air ducts, the know-how of the German company SCHARG, known in Russia under the brand name MUDRYY CLIMATE, goes even further. This is no longer just an air conditioner combined with ventilation, it is a comprehensive solution to the issue of climatic comfort in the house. In addition to the already mentioned air ducts (50×100) and a controlled ventilation system, it includes a stationary vacuum cleaner, an air heating module, a cooling module, a humidification module, an air filtration and ionization module, and a microprocessor control system for all this economy.
Just imagine: the need for all the bulky appliances that take up space in the rooms and often spoil the facade of the building simply disappears! Plus, it saves on electricity. An additional built-in recuperator (heat exchanger-utilizer) takes over 92% of the heat energy from the exhaust air and uses it to preheat the outside air entering the room.
The Mudryy Climate system uses the principle of air heating, known since ancient Rome. In the famous Roman baths, pipes were laid on the floor, walls and vaults, through which hot air flowed from underground furnaces. But the terms, as they would say now, were a multifunctional room: this is a bathhouse, a living room, a refectory, even a library! And noble Romans could spend whole days in such complexes. Mind you, comfort.
Where to check the air
If you’re serious about indoor air quality, contact a professional with experience in environmental due diligence. State laboratories are unlikely to help you: their services are expensive, and you are unlikely to get much benefit from the subsequent voluminous conclusion. In the West, “personal ecology” is a subject of special attention, and therefore there are countless companies specializing in this direction. Russia is slowly following the same path. The Moscow companies “Multidom” and “Ecoport” are ready to examine all the parameters of the environmental situation around you: from the level of soil pollution to . .. the biofield of your neighbors.
Clean air. Expensive.
The key to comfort in our home – in a short summary.
First, consider in advance which systems you will really need. Randomly buying fancy units is a waste of money, because they often duplicate each other. It is best to contact a competent company at the design stage, where they will tell you about the options for a comprehensive solution. One-time investments in this case may be more, but subsequent operation is more economical.
Buying expensive equipment does not relieve you of the need to install a ventilation system in the house, and the more complex the layout of the house, the more important ventilation is to create a healthy microclimate in it. Saving at this stage is, to put it mildly, unreasonable.
Dust is a natural companion of man. If the room is not ventilated, but left to the will of the air conditioner, there will be even more dust. The only way to defeat it is to install a centralized dust removal system. All other methods will be only a half-way compromise that will solve the aesthetic side of the problem, but will adversely affect air quality. For your information: in neighboring Finland, a stationary vacuum cleaner is installed in almost every wooden fishing house.
Additional air humidification is needed in winter, when the air in the house is artificially heated and becomes dry. Here, a humidification module built into the climate system or inexpensive stationary models will help out. At all other times of the year, the natural country air will do its job. If there are problems with the supply of fresh air to the premises … probably, you should not start with a humidifier.
Similar situation with ionizers. The numbers are inexorable: sanitary standards adopted back in the 80s determine the required minimum of negative ions in residential premises at the level of 600 ions per 1 cm3. In a modern city apartment, there are usually no more than a hundred of them. But everything changes dramatically if you leave the city. The concentration of ions in a forest or a meadow is 1000 per cm3, in the mountains – 10 thousand, near a waterfall – 50 thousand! .. So a good house in the village with a reliable fresh air supply system will solve this problem as well.
The all-in-one concept is also good for home environments. Duct duct systems are a great way to tackle all the challenges at once. In addition, add something new and pleasant, for example, air aromatization. By integrating such a system into the intellect of a “smart home”, the owner will almost forever get rid of any thoughts about the climate, and will take it for granted. Getting rid of a problem, by definition, cannot be cheap. If you want to get the maximum, pay accordingly. True, you will get a little more than just equipment – healthy air and the comfort of households.
Air purification in an apartment or office: how breathers work
We tell you what breathers are, how such air purification systems work and whether they help in the prevention of viral infections for air purification. They were in demand, especially in large cities, even before the pandemic, and after the introduction of the state of emergency, the value of safe air and a healthy microclimate has increased significantly.
Together with Tion, one of the leaders in the Russian supply ventilation market, we will tell you how such cleaning systems work, why they are in demand in offices and apartments, and how they help ensure indoor infection safety.
Urgency of the problem of clean air
adv.rbc.ru
Today, the problem of clean air is relevant in large cities, offices, enterprises, as well as in residential areas. According to the World Health Organization, nine out of ten people in the world breathe polluted air. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air is two to five times dirtier than outdoor air.
The pandemic has actualized the value of safe air and a healthy microclimate. To ensure minimization of the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection in public places, Rospotrebnadzor has developed recommendations for each economic area. The documents contain special requirements – to carry out indoor air disinfection by using bactericidal recirculators approved for use in the presence of people, in accordance with the passport of the equipment used. The Tion company develops and manufactures equipment that purifies and disinfects the air. Tion purification technology is patented and effective against most known infections and microorganisms, including pathogenicity groups I-II and III-IV, including plague, anthrax, Ebola, etc.
It is equally important to maintain a healthy microclimate at home.
Why air purification is needed
In an unfavorable epidemiological period, the concentration of viruses in the air in crowded places increases dramatically. Everyone is advised not to visit public places if possible, quarantine is announced in kindergartens and schools, workers who are constantly in contact with people wear medical masks.
Prevention at home must be followed. After all, the spread of viral diseases occurs mainly due to relatives with whom the infected person lives. If one member of the family gets sick, then there is a high probability of infecting everyone else. It is very difficult, living under the same roof with a sick person, to protect yourself from the virus.
It is important to remember that dry air provides an ideal environment for the spread of infections. The patient constantly emits viral particles, and if the room is not ventilated, then their concentration will constantly increase. The risk of infection increases. To ensure a constant exchange of air in the apartment, as well as to reduce the risk of morbidity, forced ventilation can be used. Thanks to her, the “sick” air quickly leaves the room and is forced out into the hood, new, clean and safe air is supplied.
Miroslav Potochny, General Director of HC Tion JSC:
— We understand the importance and importance of protecting both family members and company employees from dangerous viruses during this difficult period. Now more than ever it is important to take all possible measures to inactivate pathogenic bacteria, and for this we have been selling forced ventilation devices for several years. Our breathers and air recirculators are able to effectively deal not only with viruses, but also with allergens and fine dust, which is dangerous for people’s lives. The demand for equipment continues to grow, which indicates the efficiency and demand for our devices.
How Tion air purification systems work
To perform these functions, air purification systems have been created. The Tion company has been manufacturing supply ventilation devices for 14 years, which are suitable for both home and offices. Breather is a development and patented equipment of the Tion company. Modern filters built into the device provide effective cleaning of the supply air, after which safe and fresh air enters the room.
It is important to note that the filtration system of the devices purifies the air from:
- viruses and pathogenic bacteria;
- dust;
- allergens;
- harmful odors and substances;
- molds.
Breezers are used to ensure high-quality air exchange and at the same time avoid drafts, especially in winter. When the rooms are ventilated in a standard way – through an open window – particles of viruses, dust and allergens can freely enter the room. Tion supply ventilation devices provide an optimal indoor climate: the air is always fresh, clean, and at a comfortable temperature. In a healthy microclimate, the risk of contracting a viral disease is extremely low.
The main advantages of the breather
- High level of cleaning of the supply air from impurities: dust, exhaust gases, industrial emissions, fluff and pollen of plants, unpleasant odors. The level of purification depends on the set of installed filters.
- Additional air purification in the apartment. To neutralize the effect of viruses, allergens and odors, the sources of which are located inside the room, the manufacturer has provided a recirculation function. Internal stagnant air is additionally driven through the breather filtration system.
- Heated and draft free. The manufacturer also took into account the peculiarities of the Russian climate and equipped the equipment with an air heating system that prevents drafts, which is especially important if you want to protect children from coronavirus, influenza and SARS.
