The Link Between Gastrointestinal Issues and Kidney Stones: Preva Surgicare

If you’ve been diagnosed with gastrointestinal issues, you may be surprised to know that they may increase your risk of kidney stones. Additionally, sometimes kidney stones can even cause symptoms that mimic gastrointestinal issues as well.

That’s why it’s so important to know the relationship between these two types of health conditions. At Preva Surgicare – Surgery Center Of The Woodlands in Texas, our urology experts can help you understand your risk for kidney stones, while our specialized Stone Relief Center can help you treat them.

What are kidney stones?

Kidney stones are painful accumulations of minerals that form in your kidneys and can cause serious pain. Often smaller stones can pass freely through your urinary tract without symptoms, but larger stones can become stuck in the urinary tract causing severe abdominal or lower back pain and other symptoms.

GI issues caused by kidney stones

Normally, kidney stones cause symptoms such as pressure and pain in your lower back, fever, frequent urination, discomfort urinating, and bloody or discoloured urine. However, sometimes kidney stones can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach discomfort.

If you’re experiencing sudden low back pain and gastrointestinal discomfort, don’t ignore the possibility that it might be kidney stones.

Links between GI issues and increased risk of kidney stones

While it’s possible to experience gastrointestinal symptoms due to your kidney stones, there’s another way these two types of conditions are linked: having a history of gastrointestinal issues can increase your risk of kidney stones.

Inflammatory bowel diseases

If you have inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, you may experience frequent loose stools and diarrhea. On top of being uncomfortable, this can lead to dehydration which can lead to concentrated urine and kidney stone formation.

Additionally, you may experience malabsorption where your small intestine struggles to absorb nutrients. This could lead to fat in your small intestine binding to calcium, creating oxalates which then accumulate in the kidneys.

Bariatric surgery

If you’ve recently had bariatric surgery for weight loss, it can affect the functioning of your GI tract. Normally, your GI tract absorbs particles called oxalates, which are the primary substance found in kidney stones.

After a bariatric surgery, you can reduce your risk of developing kidney stones by drinking lots of water, reducing your sodium intake, and limiting foods with oxalates such as beets, spinach, nuts, chocolate, and tea.

High protein diets

If you’ve increased your protein intake with a diet such as the paleo diet or the keto diet, the increased animal proteins could increase your risk for kidney stones. These animal proteins can lead to an accumulation of uric acid in your urine.

That’s why it’s important to discuss any new diets with your doctor and to make sure you limit your portions of meat to about the size of a deck of cards per meal.

If we suspect you may have kidney stones, Preva Surgicare’s Stone Relief Center can help. Whether you are concerned about your risk of developing kidney stones or have already been diagnosed with one, call our office at 281-377-3706 or request an appointment online to get specialized support.

The Early Signs You Might Be Passing a Kidney Stone

The incredible pain of a kidney stone is sudden and unpredictable. Watch for these warning signs before it begins.

by Featured Provider Steven Rosenberg on Tuesday, September 8, 2020

They can be as small as a grain of sand, but kidney stones can pack a punch. One minute, you feel completely fine. The next, you’re doubled over in intense pain and searching for the strength to make it to the ER.

How can something so small hurt so much?

“Typically, you start getting symptoms once you get obstruction,” explains Steven Rosenberg, MD, a urologist at The Iowa Clinic. “The kidney kind of has a funnel where urine exits that’s called the ureteropelvic junction. An obstruction usually occurs when the stone passes out of the kidney and gets stuck in that funnel or in the ureter, the tube that’s between the kidney and the bladder.”

“You can have a kidney stone for 20 years and never know it. Then, all of the sudden, for no reason, it just decides to pass. And that’s the moment you develop pain.”

Kidney stone pain is not always severe — or easy to identify.

The kidneys are located in an area of the torso called the flank. They sit below the lower ribcage in the back. While you can certainly feel intense pain on either side of the back (depending on which kidney the stone is in), that’s not always the case.

“Kidney stones are almost always on one side, so the pain is either on the right or the left. Usually, you feel it in your back or on your side.” Dr. Rosenberg says. “But the human body is weird. It doesn’t always behave like the books say it should.”

You may experience abdominal pain. Or groin pain. It can start higher up near the kidneys and then move down to the groin. Your pain may be intense and short-lived. Or it could be vague and more like a stomach ache that just won’t go away.

“Non-obstructive kidney stones can sometimes cause aching or discomfort. Acute pain occurs when there’s obstruction, which means they’re blocking the kidney or passing,” Dr. Rosenberg says. “Usually kidney stone pain is sporadic. You can have intense pain followed by periods of no pain. It comes and goes.”

Everyone experiences pain differently and has different thresholds. So it can be hard to understand what’s going on with your body based on pain alone. You might think you’re fine once the pain lessens, only to have it come back just as suddenly as before. Because you haven’t fully passed the kidney stone until you see it.

Other warning signs of kidney stones may be more noticeable.

Not all kidney stones cause pain. Some don’t present any symptoms whatsoever. But when symptoms do appear, they are clear signs that something’s off and that you need to see a doctor:

1. Nausea and Vomiting

Kidney stones can make you feel sick to your stomach. But not in the way you normally would from the stomach flu or food poisoning. The pain can be so excruciating that it makes you queasy or even makes you puke. If the pain is radiating from your right side, these symptoms might lead you to think that your appendix burst — even more reason to get checked out.

2. Blood in the Urine

Seeing your pee take on a shade of pink or red is alarming. But it actually takes only a little bit of blood to change the color or urine. Some medications and red foods like beets and rhubarb can have this effect but you should get it checked out no matter what. Blood in the urine could be from a kidney stone or many other problems — some serious like kidney, bladder or prostate cancer.

3. Cloudy or Foul-Smelling Pee

Urine can change in other ways too. Kidney stones are born out of the crystallization of concentrated minerals in your pee. Concentrated urine is darker, cloudier and stinkier — similar to when you’re dehydrated. The strong odor is often compared to ammonia, but it’s more likely that the smell stems from a urinary tract infection than a kidney stone.

4. Problems with Flow

An obstruction by a kidney stone doesn’t only cause pain. It can create a variety of pee problems. As the stone moves further down the urinary tract close to the bladder, you may feel more urgency to go more often and feel pain when you pee. Kidney stones can even be on both sides at once and stop the flow of urine altogether, which, although rare, is a medical emergency.

5. Fever and Chills

Some people complain of flu-like symptoms when they have kidney stones. And that’s a bigger problem than a simple stone. If you’re running a fever, having chills or shivering, you may have an infection in your kidneys or urinary tract as well. You should get urgent medical attention.

Kidney stone symptoms and risk varies between men and women.

Men are twice as likely to develop kidney stones than women. But the gap has been closing in recent years. It’s not clear what causes kidney stones or the rates at which men and women get them.

Genetics play a big role for both sexes. Men who have a family medical history of kidney stones, are two to three times as likely to get them. Other risk factors relate to the conditions that contribute to stone formation: diet, dehydration, warm weather (which also causes dehydration) and the side effects of medications.

“The biggest risk factor is dehydration,” Dr. Rosenberg says. “People who work outside often get kidney stones because they’re chronically dehydrated. They need to drink more water because they’re losing fluid in a lot of ways.

The differences in the male and female anatomy can lead to different symptoms, too. For men, it’s like going into labor. They feel pain in their abdomen, lower back or groin as the stone passes through the narrow ureter and beyond. That can also cause some gastric discomfort, which is centered in the upper abdomen and can be dull and achy or throbbing pain. Women, on the other hand, may compare kidney stones to menstrual cramps that can escalate from dull aches to wincing pain.

Both men and women agree on one thing: kidney stones really, really hurt.

“Women who’ve had kidney stones and babies often say kidney stone pain is worse than labor pain,” Dr. Rosenberg says.

There’s always someone to talk to about your symptoms.

Kidney stone pain usually comes and goes. But you don’t have to wait for it to pass or wait for other signs to appear to see if you have a stone. Any time you’re experiencing severe pain, you should get help. Because you never know if it will actually pass or how long it will take.

And if you have pain with or without changes to your urine, nausea or vomiting — and especially fevers and chills — call your doctor.

“No matter where you need to go — Primary Care, Urgent Care if it’s on the weekend or the ER if you’re miserable — we’ll help you and tell them you’re coming,” Dr. Rosenberg says.

The Silent Signs of Kidney Disease

Kidney damage often goes unnoticed until it’s too late. Recognizing the symptoms early can help prevent further damage and long-term health consequences.

You lose a little bit of everything as you get older. Life experiences make you much wiser but many aspects of your health peak before you even reach middle age.

Your kidneys peak at 30. After that, they begin a long, gradual decline, losing a little functionality over time. In most cases, you don’t even notice it — even when the decline is quicker and more problematic. By that time, the damage is done and your kidney condition is chronic.

What is chronic kidney disease?

It’s when your kidneys suffer permanent damage and loss of functionality over time. According to the National Kidney Foundation, 15 percent of adults in the U. S. have chronic kidney disease (CKD), making it more common than both prostate cancer and breast cancer.

But just because your kidneys don’t work like they used to, doesn’t mean you have CKD. Anyone can get it at any age but you’re at greater risk if you’re older than 60, have a family member with kidney disease or have diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease.

These risk factors speed up the normal, gradual decline of the kidneys. If you have any of them, you should be aware of the signs of kidney disease.

What are the symptoms of kidney disease?

Because of its slow-developing nature, 90 percent of people who have CKD don’t even know it. Most people show no signs of disease until it’s too late and the kidneys are badly damaged.

You can’t reverse kidney damage. You can only keep it from progressing. So if you see these signs, you can catch CKD early and start treatment to prevent your kidneys from getting worse.

1. Your pee changes.

Your kidneys are like garbage collectors for your blood. They get rid of all the waste and extra fluids. They remove it from the blood and turn it into urine to be expelled from your body. So you can see signs of kidney issues in your urine or bathroom habits. You might:

  • Produce too much or too little urine.
  • Wake up in the night to pee.
  • Notice your pee is too foamy or bubbly.
  • Have red, purple or brown pee due to blood in your urine.
  • Feel pressure or have trouble urinating.

2. You have less energy.

The kidneys have another important job — telling the body to when to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body. Damaged kidneys stop producing the hormone that signals your body to make red blood cells, leading to less oxygen in the rest of your cells.

When the cells are tired, your body is tired. You feel fatigued, get exhausted easily or have trouble catching your breath. You may sleep even more without ever feeling rested. Since your brain is also not getting enough oxygen, you can get dizzy, faint and have trouble concentrating.

3. Your feet and ankles swell up.

Without proper disposal, the extra fluid and salt in your body can deposit in your lower limbs, causing swelling in your feet and ankles. You may also experience swelling elsewhere, in your face, legs, arms or hands. Swelling is more common in the late stages of kidney disease.

4. You don’t feel like eating.

The build-up of waste affects your other organs. It causes inflammation in your stomach. This makes you nauseous so you don’t want to eat anything at all. And when you do, you may end up vomiting.

Even your favorite foods can be less appealing. The waste affects your sense of taste and smell. It also causes bad breath, leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth overall. Many people stop enjoying the taste of meat and struggle with maintaining their weight.

5. You’re itchy all over.

Poorly functioning kidneys throw off the balance of your blood. In addition too much waste, there can be too much of other minerals or too little of other essential nutrients. Since blood reaches every part of your body, so do the excess minerals like phosphorus that cause a rash and make your skin itch.

The itchiness can affect your whole body or be localized to one annoying spot, most commonly the back, abs, head and arms. And it tends to get worse at night, which can cause sleep issues.

Do you even need your kidneys?

Technically, no. You can survive without your kidneys, which is why it’s the most commonly donated organ. You can go on living a normal, healthy life with just one kidney. The remaining kidney will pick up the slack and continue filtering out the waste in your body.

On the flip side, kidneys are commonly donated because they are so necessary to your body functions. When you have kidney failure — the last and most severe stage of chronic kidney disease — your kidneys have completely stopped working. And you have to continue their critical work somehow, either through a kidney transplant or dialysis.

Kidney failure is almost always permanent. Without a new kidney through transplant surgery, you have to regularly undergo dialysis, where a machine does the important work of removing waste, balancing the chemicals in your blood and helping to control your blood pressure.

Is there anything you can do to stop the decline of your kidneys?

Some decline is to be expected. To prevent chronic kidney disease or kidney failure, you need to control for the other health factors that cause further damage — high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. Taking these steps not only save your kidneys, but also improve your overall health:

  1. Exercise often. Physical activity helps you manage your blood pressure and blood glucose. It also helps you maintain a healthy weight because carrying too much weight can overwork the kidneys. Exercising for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week will make you and your kidneys healthier.
  2. Quit smoking. Cigarettes damage your heart and kidneys as well as your lungs. If stop smoking, you can stop kidney damage from getting worse.
  3. Stick to a kidney-friendly, renal diet. By limiting the sodium, phosphorus and potassium in your diet, you help keep the kidneys from having to filter three minerals that cause health issues. You need to eat a variety of fresh fruits and veggies, pasta, white bread and rice, beans and lean meat. You may also have to limit your fluids or adjust your diet to balance out other nutrients in your body.
  4. Manage your medication. Everything that gets into your bloodstream eventually gets filtered by your kidneys. Many prescription and over-the-counter medicines like ibuprofen and naproxen can damage your kidneys if used long-term.

Your kidneys work silently, filtering out the bad to leave you feeling good. Making the move to a healthier lifestyle now can make you feel even better and preserve your kidney function longer.

How to Get Rid of Kidney Stones

Passing a kidney stone is a painful experience. Depending on the size of the stone, it’s an impossibility without proper treatment.

Posted
by Featured Provider Steven Rosenberg on Friday, September 4, 2020

Spend some time outdoors and you’re bound to get a rock in your shoe. Every single step sends pain through the sole of your foot. You can’t walk again until you shake that little thing out of your shoe, often to find that it’s much smaller than the pain would make you think.

Now, imagine one of those pebbles being lodged in your kidneys or slowly moving through your urinary tract. There’s no way to shake it loose like a rock in your shoe. But there are a number of ways to get rid of it to get relief.

1. Pass the kidney stone.

Once you have kidney stone pain, it’s actually already passing. It may have been stuck inside your kidney for years before finally working it’s way down to the ureter (the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder), where it causes an obstruction and that terrible pain. From there, the stone might be able to pass the rest of the way on its own.

“Your probability of passing a kidney stone is based on its size. Small stones usually pass. Bigger stones usually don’t. But it’s not completely predictable,” says Steven Rosenberg, MD, a urologist at The Iowa Clinic.

A kidney stone of 4 millimeters (about the width of two stacked nickels) or smaller is highly likely to pass. But it can take up to a month. Stones of 6 millimeters or more are not likely to make it. For stones in that 4 to 6 millimeter gray area, just over half do pass naturally in about 45 days.

But even tiny kidney stones can cause considerable pain. So it’s less a question of size and more a matter of how you feel during this time. If taking an over-the-counter pain medication like acetaminophen or ibuprofen isn’t enough to ease your discomfort, you need to consider your other options.

2. Pulverize the kidney stone into tiny, passable pieces.

Lithotripsy is a procedure that breaks down kidney stones into fragments that are small enough to pass or easy to remove in a kidney stone surgery. One form of the procedure, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is commonly used for stones in the kidneys and upper ureter.

“It’s completely noninvasive. We use an X-ray to localize the stone and a machine that generates shock waves focused on the stone,” explains Dr. Rosenberg. “It pulverizes the stone into little pieces that can then pass. It’s useful for small or medium-sized stones that are up in the kidney.”

ESWL has about a 90 percent success rate in breaking up kidney stones in just one treatment, he says. No invasive surgery is involved — it’s all external — so there are no restrictions or recovery afterward. Most people don’t experience significant pain passing the fragmented kidney stones, either.

3. Break up the kidney stone and pull out the pieces.

There’s another form of lithotripsy that uses a laser at the end of a scope that is passed up the urethra, through the bladder and into the ureter. Once the stone is located, it’s broken to bits with the laser, and the pieces are extracted.

“We can sometimes pull stones out with just a ureteroscope. But because of the size, position or shape, sometimes pulling them out isn’t possible,” says Dr. Rosenberg. “We do an ureteroscopy with lithotripsy to break the stone up into smaller pieces and then pull those out. And we usually place a stent to help the kidney drain while the swelling goes down.”

Ureteroscopy is typically used when a stone has already passed out of the kidney, down into the ureter. It’s a minimally invasive kidney stone removal procedure. There are no incisions, so it takes less than a week to recuperate.

“The nice thing about ureteroscopy is that the stone is removed. You don’t have to wait for it to pass,” Dr. Rosenberg says.  “All you have to do is recover from the procedure, and that’s usually pretty quick.”

4. Undergo kidney stone removal surgery.

More invasive surgery is the least likely scenario, reserved for large kidney stones that can’t be removed through other means.

“There’s a less common procedure called percutaneous nephrolithotripsy. We pass a needle into the kidney through the back. We enlarge the needle tract and then put a scope down into the kidney and break up big stones with lasers and other means. Then, we pull them out through a tiny incision in the back,” Dr. Rosenberg explains.

Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy is primarily used for kidney stones that are 2 centimeters or larger — or about the same size as a marble. These stones are way too big to pass and are stuck up in the kidney.

Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy may also be necessary for an oddly-shaped kidney stone that is unable to pass. It’s the most invasive of the kidney removal procedures, and it can take several weeks to recover.

5. Prevent kidney stones before they form.

The best — and least painful — way to get rid of kidney stones is to stop them before they start. Because once you’ve had one kidney stone, you’re more likely to get another. Some people are just predisposed to getting them.

“People who form stones, there’s a reason for it. And it’s usually something metabolic. Their body is putting out too much calcium or they don’t have enough citrate,” says Dr. Rosenberg.

The kidneys’ job is to process waste. And when your body sends too much of a mineral (like calcium or sodium) to the kidneys to flush out in the urine, it can collect and crystallize into a stone. While there are medications that help pull out some of the excess minerals or dilute concentrated urine, there are several simpler strategies to prevent kidney stones from forming:

  1. Drink (more than) enough water. You want to get enough fluids that you’re able to fill a one-liter bottle more than two times with urine each day, Dr. Rosenberg says. That’s not as simple as drinking two liters of water, which is just more than the often recommended eight glasses. You have to drink enough to consistently produce that output in your urine and not lose it through sweat or by other means.
  2. Splash in some lemon juice. “Citrate interferes with calcium stone crystallization and the best dietary form of citrate is lemon,” Dr. Rosenberg says. Drop a slice of lemon in your water, drink real lemonade and squirt lemon juice on your meals to get plenty of citrate.
  3. Hold the salt. Excessive sodium in your diet is another source of kidney stones. So you need to restrict sodium and be cautious eating at restaurants where meals are filled with salt. “The more you can eat fresh fruits and vegetables, cook your own food and manage the sodium intake, the better,” Dr. Rosenberg says.
  4. Moderate high-oxalate foods. Oxalate, or oxalic acid, is an antinutrient that’s bound to minerals in many plants that can also cause kidney stones. Dr. Rosenberg advises patients to limit food sources high in oxalates like spinach, rhubarb, beets, sweet potatoes, peanuts and almonds. Since the foods are very healthy, you don’t want to avoid them entirely.
  5. Eat less meat. Up to 85% of kidney stones are made of calcium. The other 15% are most often made of uric acid, which is commonly found in animal protein. Limit your intake of meat, including eggs and seafood, to a quantity no bigger than a deck of cards.

Most kidney stones are not dissolvable, Dr. Rosenberg says. So these dietary tips are unlikely to get rid of a stone after it forms. They do, however, reduce the amount of minerals in your kidneys and keep them from growing.

“We try to manage your diet and hydration first. It’s the best thing you can do to lower your risk of kidney stones,” he says. “It’s like a big chemistry lab in your urine. The idea is to keep the concentration low enough that the minerals float around instead of crystalizing and forming stones.”

If you’ve passed a kidney stone before, there very well could be others up there waiting like ticking timebombs of pain. You need to be diligent with your diet and keep an eye out for the early signs of kidney stones.

Advanced Urology Medical Offices: Urologists

Most people have two kidneys located behind their abdominal organs along the middle of their back. The purpose of your kidneys is to filter blood and send any waste that’s collected into your urine.

Sometimes, these waste products (usually salts or minerals) build up and form small, hard deposits called kidney stones. Stones develop inside kidneys, but they exit the body through the urinary tract.

Because the ureter is small, passing a stone can cause complications inside the urinary tract, as well as a range of unpleasant symptoms from abdominal pain to nausea. About 1 in 10 Americans will experience at least one kidney stone in their lifetime, but learning to recognize the telltale signs of a kidney stone isn’t always easy — especially if you’ve never had one.

Our team at Advanced Urology in Redondo Beach, Culver City, and Los Angeles, California, is here to help. While small stones might pass without your knowledge, larger stones can cause excruciating pain. Make an appointment at Advanced Urology if you have …

Abdominal pain

When kidney stones form, they usually don’t hurt. It’s when they move inside your kidneys or travel into the ureter that you might begin feeling pain. Abdominal pain related to kidney stones fluctuates in intensity and comes in waves.

A kidney stone that’s still in your kidney may cause sharp, intense pain in your side or back. It’s often felt just below your ribcage.

As the stone moves from your kidney into your urinary tract, the pain might feel more like a radiating ache in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or groin. Pain from kidney stones can be so intense that it triggers other symptoms, like nausea and vomiting.

Changes in urination

Another common sign of kidney stones is a burning or painful sensation when urinating. Kidney stones can cause changes in the way your urine looks or smells. Watch for:

  • Pink, red, or brown coloring
  • Cloudiness
  • Foul, unusual smell

Kidney stones may give you the intense urge to urinate, so it’s common to go to the bathroom more often than normal, but only urinate small amounts each time.

If you notice blood in your urine or you’re experiencing pain so intense that you can’t sit still, seek medical attention. Nausea, chills, and vomiting may also be signs of infection that require prompt medical care.

Finding relief from kidney stone pain

Not all kidney stones require medical intervention. The smallest stones may pass without you even knowing, but medium-sized stones may cause pain that’s often easy to manage with pain medication and drinking plenty of water.

Stones that are about 4mm or larger may need professional care, so they don’t get lodged in your urinary tract and cause health complications. Our team offers a number of treatment options for larger stones, including extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and surgery.

8 Signs and Symptoms of Kidney Stones You Need to Know

If you’ve heard one thing about kidney stone symptoms, it’s probably the excruciating pain part. The rumors are, unfortunately, true: Of all the signs of kidney stones, the particular kind of agony they can cause is typically the clearest one. So it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with how exactly that exquisite pain presents, as well as the handful of other kidney stone symptoms you can experience. Here’s hoping you find the following information about signs of kidney stones interesting but that it never personally comes in handy for you.

What Is a Kidney Stone?

“Kidney stones are small, hard deposits of mineral and acid salts that form on the inner surface of the kidneys,” Roger Sur, M.D., director of the Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center at UC San Diego Health, tells SELF.

True to their name, kidney stones look like little pebbles that can vary in color (usually yellow or brown), texture (smooth or jagged), and size (from a grain of sand to a pea—major ow), according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). In rare nightmare scenarios, they can even reach the size of a golf ball (no words).

Kidney stones are made of minerals normally found in your pee, like calcium, oxalate, and phosphorus, that don’t cause issues at low levels, the NIDDK explains. As these minerals start to accumulate and crystalize, they can begin to stick together—often when the urine becomes more concentrated, the Mayo Clinic explains, which can happen due to things like dehydration.

Kidney Stone Symptoms

Fantastic news, y’all: It’s actually totally possible to have a kidney stone and never even know it. In fact, that’s often the case with tiny kidney stones, which can pass undetected out of the body, Sur says. “A lot of them out there are never found, or we find them incidentally when we’re looking for other things,” James Simon, M.D., a nephrologist at Cleveland Clinic, tells SELF.

Of course, kidney stone symptoms can also be pretty miserable. If you experience any of these signs of kidney stones, you’ll want to see a doctor ASAP to help you figure out what you’re dealing with and how to get help.

1. Sharp pain in your side and below your ribs

Now, about that infamous pain. It usually begins when the stone dislodges from the kidney and enters the ureter, the little tube between the kidneys and the bladder. If the stone is big enough to plug up the ureter, it can cause the urine to flow back into the kidney, causing swelling and an immense amount of pain at the site of the affected kidney, Simon says.

“The pain is going to be sharp, severe, and often sudden-onset,” Simon says. It’s classically felt in the flank area—at the bottom of the rib cage in your side and back. Generally speaking, “The bigger the stone, the harder it is to pass, the more painful it is,” Simon says. “But even small stones can hurt.”

MOSCOW, Dec 28 – RIA Novosti. Drinking large amounts of sugary carbonated drinks not only leads to obesity, but also significantly increases the risk of getting severe kidney disease. This conclusion was reached by physicians who published an article in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. According to current WHO data, today there is a global obesity epidemic in the world. Every third inhabitant of the globe suffers from extra pounds, and about 15% more from severe obesity. About 47% of diseases, for example, atherosclerosis, strokes, heart attacks, diabetes and cancer, are associated with similar metabolic disorders. As many doctors and scientists today believe, sugar and sugary drinks, which have become widely popular, claim the role of the main “spreader” of this epidemic. around the world in the past two decades. The consequences of their spread are already visible today. Two years ago, researchers in the United States found that excessive consumption of sugary carbonated drinks leads to the death of approximately 184 thousand people every year. Most of these deaths occur in Latin America and the United States itself. Rebholz and her colleagues have discovered another negative effect of excessive soda addiction, observing the lives of approximately 3,000 African Americans over the past 15 years. During this time, approximately 6% of them became victims of chronic kidney disease, which allowed scientists to track which risk factors most influenced their development. As it turned out, soda and other sugary drinks were among the top leaders in this anti-rating. Participants who ate an unusually high number of such foods were, on average, 61% more likely to be victims of kidney failure and chronic kidney disease than African Americans who drank little of them, suggesting further evidence that sweetened beverages turnover it is worth legislatively limiting or at least introducing taxes that increase their value. This will not only slow the spread of the obesity epidemic, but also reduce the number of people with kidney problems, Rebholz and her colleagues conclude.

MOSCOW, 28 Dec – RIA Novosti . Drinking large amounts of sugary carbonated drinks not only leads to obesity, but also significantly increases the risk of getting severe kidney disease. This conclusion was reached by physicians who published an article in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.

“We know almost nothing about how the various soft drinks available on the market today affect human health. a gap, “said Casey Rebholz of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.

According to current WHO data, there is a global obesity epidemic in the world today. Every third inhabitant of the globe suffers from extra pounds, and about 15% more from severe obesity.About 47% of diseases, such as atherosclerosis, strokes, heart attacks, diabetes and cancer, are associated with similar metabolic disorders.

Sugar and sugary drinks, which have become widely popular around the world in the past two decades, claim the role of the main “spreader” of this epidemic, as many doctors and scientists today believe.

The consequences of their spread are already visible today. Two years ago, researchers in the United States found that excessive consumption of sugary carbonated drinks leads to the death of approximately 184 thousand people every year. Most of these deaths occur in Latin America and the United States itself.

30 June 2015, 11:35

Rebholz and her colleagues discovered another negative effect of soda craze by observing the lives of approximately 3,000 African Americans over the past 15 years.During this time, approximately 6% of them became victims of chronic kidney disease, which allowed scientists to track which risk factors most influenced their development.

As it turned out, soda and other sugary drinks were among the main leaders in this anti-rating. Participants who ate an unusually high number of such foods were, on average, 61% more likely to be victims of kidney failure and chronic kidney disease than African Americans who hardly drank them.

All this, according to scientists, once again suggests that the turnover of sweetened drinks should be legally limited or at least introduced taxes that increase their cost. This will not only slow the spread of the obesity epidemic, but also reduce the number of people with kidney problems, Rebholz and her colleagues conclude.

The Ministry of Economy of the Federal Republic of Germany issued an opinion on the certification of the Nord Stream 2 project

The German Ministry of Economy and Energy has sent to the Federal Grid Agency (German regulator) a conclusion on the certification of the Nord Stream 2 project, which states that it will not pose a threat to gas supply.

“The Ministry of Economy, in its analysis, comes to the conclusion that the issuance of the certificate will not jeopardize the security of gas supply to Germany and the EU,” the ministry said, TASS reports with reference to Bloomberg.

The Ministry of Economy of the Federal Republic of Germany has completed the study of this issue and continues the process of certification of the gas pipeline. It is noted that the department consulted in the process of developing an opinion with other EU member states.

In October, the Ukrainian GTS Operator submitted its application to the German energy regulator for participation in the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline operator. Also, Naftogaz Ukrainy has applied for the certification of Nord Stream 2.

As a reminder, earlier Pavel Zavalny, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, said that the first string of Nord Stream 2 was almost full. German political scientist Alexander Rahr called on the European Union not to interfere with Nord Stream 2 and “lend a hand” to Russia.

The German Federal Grid Agency has threatened the operator of Nord Stream 2, Nord Stream 2 AG, with “immediate proceedings” if the company cannot confirm the pipeline’s compliance with EU legislation, including the issue of “non-discriminatory access to the network and the integration of infrastructure into the German market”.Nord Stream 2 noted that Nord Stream 2 has already received all the necessary permits and has been implemented in accordance with national legislation and international law.

Kuleba announced retaliatory steps in case of termination of gas supplies from Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the country’s authorities will take several steps in response if Russia stops supplying gas to Ukraine. The post was posted on Twitter.

“Russia has not yet cut off gas supplies to Ukraine. If the Kremlin decides to do this and destroys the remnants of its reputation as an energy supplier to Europe, we have a number of asymmetric retaliatory steps, ”Kuleba’s publication says.

Earlier it was reported that the deputy of the Rada from the party “Opposition Platform – For Life” Ilya Kiva appealed to the residents of Ukraine with a request to prepare for the cold due to lack of fuel.Slavyansk TPP suspended work. Both blocks of the station were turned off.

Earlier, Rada deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko said that preparations for the heating season in Ukraine had failed, since the authorities had not prepared either coal reserves or gas reserves for the autumn-winter period.

Former head of Naftogaz Andrei Kobolev said that the authorities were wrong, refusing to buy gas in the spring at low prices. Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk accused Kiev of multibillion-dollar losses due to the untimely purchase of gas.

Earlier, the VZGLYAD newspaper discussed in detail the issue of the gas gap between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the reasons for the gas crisis in the neighboring country.

In the LPR, the combat use of “Bayraktar” by Ukraine was assessed

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) demonstratively violated the Minsk Agreements by the combat use of the Turkish drone “Bayraktar” in the Donbas, said Rodion Miroshnik, a representative of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) in the political subgroup of the Contact Group for resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine.

“Ukrainian soldiers purposefully, even revealingly, declare that they violate the Minsk agreements. Kiev signed a memorandum in September 2014, which introduced an unambiguous “ban from the moment this memorandum was adopted on flights of military aircraft and foreign unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).” But [the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Valery] Zaluzhny reports not only about flights, but also about the combat use of UAVs on the line of contact. That is, he wanted to spit on Kiev’s obligations under the Minsk agreements. But a unilateral violation happens [only] once, after which the obligations of the other party automatically evaporate, “Miroshnik wrote in his Telegram channel.

“Based on the geolocation data of the D-30 howitzer defeat, the Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2 UAV struck in the Telmanovo / Boykovskoe area, deepening 15 km deep into the territory controlled by the DPR forces,” the LPR representative in the political subgroup of the Contact Group for resolving the situation on east of Ukraine. As Miroshnik noted, for a legal assessment of Kiev’s violation of international obligations, “a“ frank recognition ”of the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army is quite enough.

On the eve of the Ukrainian armed forces, by order of the commander-in-chief, Lieutenant-General Valery Zaluzhny, they used Turkish Bayraktar drone drones in the Donbass. On the same day, Ukrainian security forces seized the village of Staromaryevka in Donbass. In addition, on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces damaged the gas pipeline of the Zasyadko mine in Donetsk. In addition, as a result of the shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, more than 1,000 subscribers of Gorlovka lost their power supply, 67 residential buildings, two dormitories, two kindergartens and a school were left without heat.

On October 14, the plenipotentiary of Russia in the Contact Group for the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine, Boris Gryzlov, accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine of direct violation of the Measures to Strengthen the Armistice, signed by Kiev on July 22, 2020, as well as the Framework Decision on the disengagement of forces and assets, agreed upon by Ukraine and Donbass in 2016 year within the Contact Group. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on Ukraine to hear the US signal of the relevance of the Minsk agreements, which were reaffirmed by Washington during a visit to Moscow by US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.

At the end of September, the Kremlin stated that the work on the implementation of the Minsk agreements had reached a dead end. In July, Boris Gryzlov, Russia’s plenipotentiary at the Minsk talks, accused Kiev of stepping up armed actions in Donbass, including against the civilian population. In the same month, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Alexander Lukashevich, said that Kiev was actively preparing a military scenario for solving the so-called problem of Donbass.

In April, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak spoke about Russia’s interest in a friendly, calm and stable Ukraine. At the same time, he warned that in case of war, Russia will stand up to protect its citizens in Donbass. In February, the general of the SBU predicted that Kiev would lose Donbass if it rejected the Minsk agreements.

Western media learned the conditions of Gazprom for a discount on gas for Moldova

Gazprom has offered Moldova to amend the free trade agreement with the European Union and postpone energy market reforms in exchange for cheaper gas, sources told the Financial Times.

According to the newspaper, Gazprom wanted Moldova to postpone the implementation of EU rules, which require liberalization of gas markets and increased competition, Kommersant reports.

The Kremlin is viewing the gas talks as part of a broader political settlement with Moldova after Maia Sandu became president, who advocates developing relations with the European Union, sources said.

Earlier, Moldova signed a contract for a trial purchase of 1 million cubic meters of gas from the Dutch company Vitol.

The VZGLYAD newspaper noted that Moldova presented three alternative suppliers to Gazprom at once. It bought the first alternative gas for testing from Poland, signed an agreement with Ukraine for the supply of 700 million cubic meters of gas, and Romania promises to find gas for pumping through a new gas pipeline to Moldova.

Let us remind you that earlier negotiations between Russia and Moldova on the gas issue ended in vain. Chisinau, having abandoned the oil peg for gas prices, was unable to pay for it at market prices. From December 1, gas supplies to Chisinau may stop.

Gazprom claims that Moldova itself is to blame for the current gas crisis. According to the official representative of the company, Sergei Kupriyanov, the debt for the supplied gas is $ 433 million (and taking into account the delay – $ 709 million). A Gazprom spokesman added that “for some reason, Moldovan representatives do not want to recognize the accumulated amount of debt,” they also “do not like the price of gas, although the pricing here is clear and transparent.”

The Kremlin warned of the negative consequences of Zelensky’s statements about Crimea

The statements of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about the intention to “return” Crimea may have negative consequences, said the press secretary of the Russian head of state Dmitry Peskov.

“Certainly, the statement about the“ return ”of Crimea is currently nothing more than a statement of territorial claims to the Russian Federation. Such statements can have their negative consequences, “- quoted by TASS Peskov.

Earlier, Zelensky, after the decision of the Dutch court to transfer the collection of Scythian gold to Ukraine, said that Kiev always returns its own, “first we will return the Scythian gold, and then the Crimea.”

Let us remind you that in 2014, even before the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the collection of Scythian gold was exported to Amsterdam. When the question arose about the return of the artifacts, the Russian and Ukrainian sides began a dispute over their ownership.

In 2016, the Amsterdam District Court decided to transfer the collection to Kiev, but the Crimean side appealed. Despite the fact that the objects of Scythian gold originate from Crimea, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal recognized them as Ukrainian property and decided to transfer them to Ukraine, stressing that the country became independent in 1991. The cassation for the decision on the Scythian gold was going to be filed in the near future.Meanwhile, in the Crimea, they found a way to fill empty display cases from under the Scythian gold.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin instructed to study the situation related to the non-return of Scythian gold from Amsterdam to Crimea. The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, believes that the decision of the court in Amsterdam on the collection of Crimean museums is unfair and outrageous, in fact, it covers up a raider seizure. It was reported that a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands against the decision of the Amsterdam court on Scythian gold is planned to be filed in the near future.

Ukraine offered Russia to extend the gas transit contract for 15 years

Ukraine proposes to extend the gas transit contract with Russia before the agreement expires in 2024 for the next 10-15 years with an annual pumping volume of at least 45 billion cubic meters, said Serhiy Makogon, head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator.

“We persistently suggest, if the American and German sides are interested, to extend the transit contract now – without waiting for 2024. There is a possibility. Even though today we are ready to sign a contract [with Russia] for the next 10-15 years with a transit volume of at least 45 billion cubic meters of gas per year, “Makogon said in an interview with TSN, noting that Russia did not respond to this proposal. RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, guarantees to take measures to preserve gas transit through Ukraine after the launch of Nord Stream 2, which were given by Germany and the United States, are declarative in nature and are not supported by real mechanisms.

“I agree with you that now it is more of a declaration. There are no documents actually describing this process. It is also difficult for me to precisely define the term “use gas as a weapon”. In my opinion, Russia is already using gas as a weapon. Because we see what is happening with the price of gas, so many enterprises in Europe simply stop their work and some even declare bankruptcy. These are enterprises of the chemical industry, the production of fertilizers, etc. Therefore, from my point of view, there is already reason to consider this as the use of energy weapons, ”said Makogon.

On Sunday, Naftogaz offered Gazprom a 50% discount on the transit of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year in excess of the volumes stipulated under the current contract, which corresponds to the capacity of the new Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Earlier, Zelensky admitted that there was no response to the completion of the contract for the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine in 2024. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak called the talk about a new contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine strange, since there are still three and a half years left until the completion of the current contract.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that this year Russia has already increased supplies through the gas transmission system (GTS) of Ukraine in excess of contractual transit obligations by about 10%. He also warned that “it is impossible to increase [the volume of gas pumped] there,” “it is dangerous to increase,” because “the GTS has not been repaired there for decades, there, if the pressure is increased, [the pipe] will burst altogether, and Europe will lose this route altogether.”

Russia recalled the coup in Ukraine before discussing Sudan in the UN Security Council

The people of Sudan must decide for themselves whether the events in the republic are a coup or not, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said before a closed meeting of the Security Council. At the same time, the diplomat recalled “what happened in Ukraine in 2014”.

“It’s hard to say if this is a coup or not. The coup has a specific definition. [Similar] situations exist in many parts of the world that [however] are not called a coup. This is sometimes called a change of power. It is necessary to look. It is up to the Sudanese to decide whether it is a coup or not, ”Polyansky TASS quoted as saying.

“In 2019, there was a power change in Sudan. Was it called a coup? <…> I don’t think our task is to call this situation a coup or not.You know what happened in Ukraine in 2014, we believe that it was a coup, ”added the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN.

Polyansky was asked to comment on the statements of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who called on the powers to unite in the Security Council to ensure effective containment of the “epidemic of coups.” “The Secretary General does not usually criticize the Security Council because we (the member states) are different forces. I understand that the Secretary General is extremely concerned, like everyone else, ”the diplomat said.

Polyansky answered in the negative when asked if he knew anything about the fate of Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk and the future structure of the country. “This is what we are going to find out now,” said the first deputy permanent representative of Russia to the UN.

Earlier, the head of the government of Sudan disbanded by the army, Abdullah Hamduk, returned home just over a day after his arrest. The office of the ousted by the military Prime Minister of Sudan has confirmed the return of the politician to the residence.

Let us remind you that on Monday morning the capital of Sudan Khartoum was completely blocked by the army: all entrances to the city were blocked, bridges and central streets were closed.Car traffic has completely stopped. The military surrounded and closed the capital’s airport.

The military detained several ministers, a civilian representative of the Sovereign Council and the governor of Khartoum. Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk and his closest adviser, as well as many leaders of political parties, were placed under house arrest. After the Sudanese premier refused to support the coup, the military took the politician away in an unknown direction. People responded to the call of civilian forces “to resist the attempts of the military to usurp power” and began to take to the streets.

On the same day, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced the dissolution of the Sovereign Council, the Cabinet of Ministers and the introduction of a state of emergency, and the US special envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman, who was visiting Khartoum, left Sudan. The Ministry of Information of the Sudan called al-Burkhan’s statement about the dissolution of the government a coup d’etat. The Kremlin expressed concern about what is happening in Sudan, calling on the parties to restrain.

International journalist Abbas Juma noted that what happened in Sudan opens up a corridor of opportunities for Moscow, including for the construction of a logistics center for the Navy on the Red Sea, since “Russia will agree with those leaders who have now been arrested it was impossible. “Did the VZGLYAD newspaper understand that the coup in Sudan promises Russia, which expects to gain a foothold in this country?

The DPR called for an operation to force Ukraine to peace

“Kiev is using modern weapons not only against the military, but also against civilians in Donbass, so the conflict can only be resolved with the help of a military operation,” said Vladislav Berdichevsky, deputy of the DPR parliament, to the VZGLYAD newspaper.Earlier, the Armed Forces used the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 attack drones for the first time in Donbass.

“I think that under the current conditions there is only one possible solution to the situation – an operation to force Ukraine to peace. In part, this can be done, as it was in 2008 in the case of Georgia because of its aggression against South Ossetia, ”said Vladislav Berdichevsky, deputy of the parliament of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

According to him, all peaceful ways of resolving the conflict have already been exhausted.“Ukraine simply does not accept any diplomatic and political options for resolving the problem. Moreover, we see that she continues to strengthen and re-equip her army, ”explained Brig.

According to the parliamentarian, the moment when it was possible to resolve the conflict with little blood has already passed. “Kiev uses modern weapons not only against the military, but also against civilians in Donbass. Therefore, it is possible to resolve the conflict in these circumstances only by force, ”he is sure.

“At the same time, in the event of a military solution to the problem, Moscow should not be afraid of sanctions from the West – they will be so, no matter how the situation around Donbass develops. They will try to destroy Russia economically, financially and politically, ”the source said. – However, we must not forget that in the Donbass, citizens of Russia are also killed, since hundreds of thousands of people who have received Russian passports live here. In the person of Donbass, Russia has acquired a loyal ally and friend. ”

“The Russian army is quite capable of destroying command posts, accumulations of military equipment and manpower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine without losses for the civilian population,” believes Brig. “In addition, both in quality and in quantity of weapons, the Russian army is an order of magnitude superior to the Ukrainian one.”At the same time, according to the deputy, “none of Ukraine’s Western“ partners ”will come to her aid, since there are no people willing to get involved in the war with Russia, this is understandable since 2008.”

“As for Turkey and its drones, it trades with everyone. President Putin is well aware that Turkey cannot be considered an ally or friend. Ankara is just an important trading partner for Russia. And how to punish Turkey for selling UAVs to Ukraine is better for the Russian leadership to decide, ”he said.

Also, the interlocutor recalled the tragic death of the boy in April this year in the village of Aleksandrovskoye near the city of Yenakiyevo. “Then it was alleged that an unmanned aerial vehicle dropped an explosive device into a residential area. I think the Armed Forces used a Turkish UAV back then. But after the death of the child, they simply did not voice it all, ”concluded Brig.

Earlier, the Ukrainian media reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) first used the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 attack drones in Donbass.According to the local Channel 5, the shock drones were allegedly used “to destroy Russian artillery that was shelling near the village of Granitnoe in the Donetsk region.”

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the use of the Bayraktar strike drone in the Donbass. It is noted that he destroyed the enemy’s cannon with a guided bomb. According to the press center, a battery of D-30 howitzers fired at military positions in Donbass near the village of Granitnoye, during which one security officer was killed and another was wounded.

In response, the representative of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) in the political subgroup of the Contact Group for resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine, Rodion Miroshnik, said that in this way the Armed Forces of Ukraine had demonstratively violated the Minsk agreements.

“Ukrainian soldiers purposefully, even revealingly, declare that they are violating the Minsk agreements. Kiev signed a memorandum in September 2014, which introduced an unambiguous “ban from the moment this memorandum was adopted on flights of military aircraft and foreign unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).”But [the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Valery] Zaluzhny reports not only about flights, but also about the combat use of UAVs on the line of contact. That is, he wanted to spit on Kiev’s obligations under the Minsk agreements. But a unilateral violation happens [only] once, after which the obligations of the other party automatically evaporate, “Miroshnik wrote in his telegram channel.

At the same time, the Ukrainian security forces seized the village of Staromaryevka in the Donbass. At the beginning of April, the leading manufacturer of Turkish drones Bayraktar said that Ukraine had already purchased their complexes. Moscow noted that this does not cause joy, but Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu assured that the deal was not directed against Russia.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the Turkish side is interested in the production of Bayraktar drones in Ukraine.

Recall that in April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, which declared their independence after the February coup in Kiev. According to the UN, more than 13 thousand people have become victims of the conflict.

Poklonskaya reacted to the threat of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

Russian Ambassador to Cape Verde Natalya Poklonskaya ironically accepted the threat of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba “never to leave her alone.”

“I will never forget them either. And I also remember about those who staged a coup d’etat in Ukraine, and their minions, who turned the once flourishing and developing country into ruins, ”RIA Novosti quoted Poklonskaya as saying.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the Kiev authorities will never forget Poklonskaya and will not leave her alone. According to him, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are dealing with the extradition of the Russian diplomat.

As a reminder, President Vladimir Putin appointed Poklonskaya, who served as deputy chairman of the international affairs committee in the seventh convocation of the State Duma, as Russia’s ambassador to the Republic of Cape Verde. Poklonskaya thanked the head of state for the appointment to a responsible area of diplomatic work in Cape Verde. Earlier, Poklonskaya responded to the threat of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba “to ruin her life.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced that it has approached the authorities of Cape Verde (Cape Verde Island) regarding the appointment of Natalia Poklonskaya as Russian ambassador to the republic.Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned Ukraine against threats against Poklonskaya and advised against trying to “extradite” her from Africa.

Political scientist Andrei Bystritsky, in an interview with the VZGLYAD newspaper, noted that Poklonskaya is a bright person and politician, the appointment of someone else to the post of ambassador in this country would not have caused such a stir.

Ukrainian Armed Forces first used Bayraktar drones in Donbass

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) first used the Bayraktar TB2 Turkish attack drones in Donbass, Ukrainian media reported citing a volunteer.

According to the local “Channel 5”, shock drones were used allegedly “to destroy Russian artillery, which was shelling near the village of Granitnoe, Donetsk region.”

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed the use of the Bayraktar strike drone in Donbass. It is noted that he destroyed the enemy’s cannon with a guided bomb.

“Today, October 26, 2021, by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Valeriy Zaluzhny, the Bayraktar reconnaissance and strike unmanned complex was first used in the area of the Joint Forces operation,” the General Staff’s press center said on Facebook.

According to the press center, a battery of D-30 howitzers fired at military positions in Donbass near the village of Granitnoye, during which one security officer was killed and another was wounded.

“The Ukrainian side through the OSCE SMM demanded a ceasefire, but this did not happen, after which Bayraktar was used: the drone did not cross the collision line and destroyed one gun with a bomb, the shelling of Ukrainian positions stopped,” the message says.

In early April, the leading manufacturer of Turkish drones Bayraktar said that Ukraine had already purchased their complexes.Moscow noted that this does not cause joy, but Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu assured that the deal was not directed against Russia.

Lavrov did not support the EU call to ban oil and gas production in the Arctic

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he was in solidarity with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, who criticized the European Commission’s call to ban the development of new oil, gas and coal deposits in the Arctic.

“I agree with the opinion of Norwegian Prime Minister Store, who has already given his assessment to these ideas of the European Union,” Lavrov said in response to a relevant question from the Norwegian broadcasting corporation NRK. The minister’s response was published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In an interview with the Financial Times on Monday, Stere criticized the European Commission’s (EC) proposal to ban oil and gas activities in the Arctic, which would hit the Scandinavian country hardest.

The European Commission proposed earlier to introduce a global moratorium on the extraction of hydrocarbon fuels in the Arctic, but supported the extraction of mineral resources by the EU countries in compliance with “high environmental standards.” According to European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginius Sinkevicius, in accordance with the EU strategy for the Arctic, coal, oil and gas “must remain underground in the Arctic”, and the EC stands for “a global moratorium on their production.” As pointed out by the European Commissioner, this region is of particular importance from the point of view of climate warming, as its temperature rises on average three times faster than the temperature of the rest of the Earth, due to the melting of ice, which in turn accelerates the process of global warming.

Last Thursday, President Vladimir Putin called an attempt by a number of countries to limit Russia’s sovereignty in the Arctic. The Security Council explained the attempts of foreign countries to limit Russia’s work in the Arctic by the struggle for access to natural resources and the desire to establish control over strategic communications. The Security Council noted that the West is using the topic of ecology as a screen to disrupt Russia’s strategic projects in the Arctic.

In July, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin ordered to intensify the search and exploration of new large deposits of minerals in the little-studied regions of the Arctic and on the shelf of the seas of the Arctic Ocean. In April, the government approved the state program “Socio-economic development of the Arctic zone of Russia” for the period until 2024. In October last year, President Vladimir Putin approved the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of Russia and Ensuring National Security for the Period until 2035.

Chechen political scientist explained why Tatarstan does not need its own president

Ramzan Kadyrov does not need to strengthen his status as the head of the republic with additional regalia, the leaders of the Turkic and Arab states willingly communicate with him.The Chechen political scientist Said Bitsoev told the VZGLYAD newspaper about this. Earlier, an expert from Kazan said that the status of the President of Tatarstan helps Rustam Minnikhanov to represent Russia in the Muslim world.

“I don’t think that the name“ head of the republic ”or“ president of the republic ”somehow changes the status of a politician in the eyes of the world Islamic“ ummah ”. They understand that the head of the subject remains the head of the subject. For example, Ramzan Kadyrov constantly communicates with monarchs and presidents from Arab and Turkic countries. In this he is helped by the fact that his name is known in general in the world. The heads of Jordan, Dubai, Iraq, Turkey communicate with him with pleasure, ”Bitsoev said.

“Compare with the United States – it is also a federal state, but the governor of Texas is not called president there,” the political scientist added. – By the way, Erdogan, the most authoritative representative of the Turkic world, also recently remarked at one of the discussions on Turkey’s ties with the Islamic regions of Russia: do not forget that there is only one leader in Russia, and all other leaders are only the heads of the subjects of this country is almost 90 “.

In Kazan, they talk about the need to communicate at a decent level with the Turkic world, the need to have a high status for the leader of Tatarstan, Bitsoev recalled. “But this means only an attempt to defend our position, to keep the familiar name“ President of the Republic ”, nothing more. I don’t think that the status of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan or the Chechen Republic becomes less important because the first person there will be called not “president”, but “head of the republic”. In fact, there should be only one head of state, ”the Chechen political scientist summed up.

Kadyrov is not eager to raise his formal status – on the contrary, 11 years ago he himself suggested that there should be only one president in the country, Bitsoev recalled.

“Kadyrov is at the forefront of systemic reforms, be it an electoral reform or the name of the head of a region. By his actions, he also shows that the North Caucasus – in terms of the political structure – is developing in line with all other regions of the Russian Federation, that in Chechnya, in particular, there are no separatist tendencies left, ”the expert summed up.

As a reminder, at the end of September Senator Andrei Klishas and State Duma Deputy Pavel Krasheninnikov introduced a draft law “On the general principles of organizing public power in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation”. The bill, in particular, establishes a name common to all regions of the country for the position of a senior official – the head of a constituent entity of Russia. The press service of the State Duma Committee on State Construction then explained that “taking into account the historical, national and other traditions of the region, the constitution (charter) of the subject may provide for an additional name of the position”, but it cannot contain words and phrases that make up the name of the position of the head of state – President of the Russian Federation.

The State Council of Tatarstan on the eve refused to support the draft law. “In our opinion, certain provisions of the bill contradict the foundations of the constitutional system of Russia as a democratic federal law-based state,” said Albert Khabibullin, head of the State Council Committee on State Construction. The decision was taken unanimously. Tatarstan remains the only region of the country whose head is named president.

“Tatarstan has great responsibilities to represent the Russian Federation in the Islamic and Turkic world.President Rustam Minnikhanov regularly communicates with foreign statesmen. Eastern diplomacy reacts very subtly to such nuances, ”Kazan political scientist Ruslan Aisin told VZGLYAD newspaper about this.

“You need to understand that Eastern diplomacy reacts very subtly to such nuances. It is important for foreign leaders that they are dealing with a person who has certain regalia. This is how the East works. At the same time, of course, it is obvious that their Russian interlocutor bears certain obligations imposed on him by President Putin himself, ”the political scientist from Tatarstan believes.

“Demotion to the status of“ head of the region ”for the eastern leaders will mean that they are not a direct representative, but the governor of some province. Accordingly, the level of conversation will be completely different. The first person will not communicate on his own, he will send another person instead of himself, ”said Aisin.

Let us remind you that in 2010 Ramzan Kadyrov himself refused to be called the president of Chechnya, proposing to replace the name of his position with “head of the republic”. In his opinion, in Russia only one statesman has the right to bear such a title, and the “parade of regional presidents” should be stopped.

Possible terms for certification of Nord Stream 2 have been named

Completion of the certification process for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is possible in December-January, if the process is not politicized, said Pavel Zavalny, chairman of the State Duma’s energy committee.

“I do not see any contraindications against certification. If they adhere to the procedures and regulations that have been adopted without politicizing the issue, then (the gas pipeline) must be certified no later than December 2021 – January 2022, “Zavalny quoted TASS as saying.

According to him, the pressure exerted on Germany, including from countries that are not members of the European Union, may delay the process. He believes that the launch of Nord Stream 2 will improve the situation with gas supply in Europe.

“Because Nord Stream 2 is a new production volume, this is gas from Yamal. Today the Bovanenkovskoye field has reached a capacity of 15 billion cubic meters per year. Gas from this field cannot be supplied through the Nizhny Novgorod corridor and through Ukraine, it can only be supplied through Nord Stream 2 or Nord Stream 1, ”he explained.

Zavalny recalled that gas supplies via Nord Stream 2 may begin the next day after the certification procedure is completed.

Earlier, Beate Baron, a spokesman for the German Ministry of Economy and Energy, said that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, upon completion of the certification procedure and commissioning, would create additional capacities and opportunities to transport gas to Europe.

On the eve of the Ministry of Economy and Energy of Germany sent to the Federal Grid Agency (the regulator of the Federal Republic of Germany) a conclusion on the certification of the Nord Stream 2 project, which states that it will not pose a threat to gas supply.

As a reminder, Pavel Zavalny, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, said that the first string of Nord Stream 2 is almost full. German political scientist Alexander Rahr called on the European Union not to interfere with Nord Stream 2 and “lend a hand” to Russia.

The German expert explained the words of the head of the German Defense Ministry on the nuclear deterrence of Russia

“Kramp-Karrenbauer is leaving politics. Her career is over, so she wants to go down in history and win applause by justifying the presence of American weapons in Germany, ”German political analyst Alexander Rahr told VZGLYAD newspaper, commenting on the statement of the German Defense Minister about the possibility of containing Russia with nuclear weapons. Later, Russia demanded that the United States withdraw American nuclear systems from Europe.

According to Rahr, “Kramp-Karrenbauer, firstly, is trying to justify the presence of American weapons in Germany, including nuclear weapons.”“And secondly, she was brought up on the philosophy“ Russia is the enemy ”. For a tough dialogue with Moscow, she will not be punished, but praised. This is what she is trying to achieve – to go down in history beautifully and end her career to the applause of the elite, the press and some Bundestag deputies, ”the expert said.

“In addition, Kramp-Karrenbauer belongs to the stratum of those politicians who believe that the Baltic states and Poland are closer to Germany than Russia. With her statement, she seems to want to allay fears that the Germans are building ties with Moscow behind the backs of the Eastern European countries, ”Rahr said.

The interlocutor noted that the current Minister of Defense is known for sympathy not only for Warsaw and the three Baltic states. Surrounded by Kramp-Karrenbauer, they actively support the post-Maid Ukraine. One of the closest advisers to Kramp-Karrenbauer, the head of its headquarters Niko Lange, is known as the “liaison” between Berlin and Kiev, Rahr recalled. “Lange carried out this connection during the events on the Maidan in 2014, took the current mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, to Berlin. He is an absolutely pro-Ukrainian politician, ”Rahr said.

When Kramp-Karrenbauer was elected head of the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in 2018 and perceived as the successor to Chancellor Angela Merkel, Klitschko wrote an article for the German newspaper Bild in which he expressed his satisfaction at the election of a new CDU leader. At the same time, the Kiev mayor recalled that Lange’s advisor had worked for a long time in the Kiev branch of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and was even detained in 2010 for criticizing the then President Viktor Yanukovych.

In your opinion

Which side is more interested in the dialogue between Russia and NATO?

In Kiev, it was estimated that the likely successor to Merkel at that time expressed a pro-Ukrainian position on the incident in the Kerch Strait, demanding that Russian ships from the Sea of Azov should not have the right to call in European and American ports. “Kramp-Karrenbauer, due to insufficient experience, relies on Lange’s opinion and repeats his Russophobic statements,” Rahr explained.

“But now, with her loud phrases, she clearly wants to go down in history,” the interlocutor added. It should not be forgotten that Kramp-Karrenbauer is leaving office along with the outgoing team of Angela Merkel, Rahr said. “She is leaving politics, she has a couple of days left. She will not even be in the new Bundestag, her career is over. But she wants to leave a mark, ”explained the German political scientist.

In general, Kramp-Karrenbauer was remembered only as a friend of Angela Merkel, whom Frau Chancellor nominated for the post of head of the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU).“She became the chairman of the party, but did not cope with this task,” says Rahr. – In fact, Kramp-Karrenbauer did nothing as defense minister. Both she and her predecessor in this post, Ursula von der Leyen (who now heads the European Commission) were mainly engaged in gender issues, and not arming the German army. ”

What cannot but worry is that the Merkel cabinet agreed with the Kramp-Karrenbauer statement, the German expert noted, although the current defense minister is still provoking Russia to unleash a cold war.“If Russia and its leader begin to respond with the same aggressive response – although, I emphasize, they don’t do this – then we will find ourselves in a new cold war,” the political scientist noted.

Last week on the radio station Dlf, Kramp-Karrenbauer said that it was necessary to make it very clear to Moscow that the Western countries were also ready to use nuclear weapons to contain Russia. It is noteworthy that earlier on the same day, when the minister gave her answer, NATO countries approved a global plan for the defense of the alliance. The German media reported that NATO was preparing for a conflict with Russia.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reminded his German colleague how the pulling of forces to the Russian borders ends. “Against the background of calls for military containment of Russia, NATO is consistently pulling forces to our borders. How this has already ended for Germany and Europe, the Minister of Defense of Germany must know well, ”he said.

On Monday, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the words of the head of the German military department “fantasies.” “If it brings her pleasure, maybe it satisfies some of her admirers,” the head of Russian diplomacy admitted. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense indicated to the German military attaché that the Kramp-Karrenbauer statements provoke tensions in Europe.

The Kramp-Karrenbauer position was condemned in Germany itself. So, the chairman of the faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in the Bundestag, Rolf Mutzenich, criticized the statement of the Minister of Defense and urged her not to burden the future work of the new government with such statements.

On Monday, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that a precondition for Moscow and Washington to start discussing non-strategic nuclear weapons is the withdrawal of American systems from Europe, as well as the elimination of the infrastructure intended for them.

The head of the Union of Ukrainians of Portugal was outraged by the monument to Gagarin

The head of the Union of Ukrainians in Portugal, Pavel Sadokha, criticized the opening of a monument to cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in the country.

Sadokha in his article in the Observador noted that the monument received “clearly ideological content”, since the main element of the work is supposedly the coat of arms of the USSR – “one of the most severe dictatorial regimes of the last century.”

The Ukrainian also criticized the position of the director of Taguspark, who declared the need to respect history.

“After all, what does“ respect for history ”depend on in Portugal? From the volumes of gas and oil supplied by Russia? From the current military potential of Russia? ” – asked the questions of Sadokha.

According to the Ukrainian, for the flight of Gagarin, allegedly “15 republics of the USSR were turned into a huge concentration camp, where human life was not respected and where total poverty reigned.”

Sadokha suggested that the director of the technopark wants to introduce a similar management model for his enterprise in order to “achieve great success”.

“But a person who admires the monument to Gagarin will probably gain his success at the expense of the impoverishment of the Portuguese and their loss of freedom. The goal of the Soviet Union’s space program was, first of all, to send nuclear missiles into space. Maybe Portugal, showing such “respect for history”, wants to glorify the Cold War? – said the head of the Union of Ukrainians.

The bust of Gagarin was installed at the Russian Embassy in Portugal in the city of Oeiras, Lisbon district, in mid-October. The ceremony took place in the local Taguspark technopark and was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the first manned flight into space.

VZGLYAD / Ukraine, after stopping the factories, began to buy oxygen in Poland :: News of the day

Ukraine has begun to buy medical oxygen from Poland, as earlier two largest plants for its production were shut down, said Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

“Yes, given the fact that he (the plant that produced oxygen and stopped) in the west of Ukraine contacted Poland – this is faster than bringing oxygen from Donetsk, Luhansk or Zaporizhzhya regions,” Lyashko said in an interview with the Internet publication “Ukrainian Truth”.

He noted that the Ministry of Infrastructure quickly issued all the necessary permits, and the distributor supplying this oxygen brought a couple of cars from Poland and took them to hospitals.

Earlier it became known that the two largest plants in Ukraine, producing medical oxygen, stopped work to carry out routine maintenance during the outbreak of coronavirus.

Ukraine has moved from the “green” zone to the “yellow” due to the worsening epidemiological situation in the country. On October 15, the Kherson region fell into the “red zone”.

In the “red” zone, the operation of entertainment establishments, gyms and restaurants is prohibited, and other places work only under the condition of 100% vaccination.

Ukraine has confirmed its refusal to recognize the Russian drug Sputnik V, so those vaccinated with this vaccine will have to comply with a ten-day quarantine or take a coronavirus test after crossing the border.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the Turkish side is interested in the production of Bayraktar drones in Ukraine.

The Rada called on the Ukrainians to stock up on dung for heating houses

Rada deputy Mykhailo Volynets called on citizens of Ukraine living in rural areas not to rely on power, to collect manure and dry it for the subsequent use of dung as fuel during a period of acute shortage of energy resources in the country.

“It is necessary to warn people that in the countryside at least dung be harvested and dried. Because you need to rely only on yourself, and not on such power, ”the parliamentarian said on the air of the Nash TV channel. As Volynets noted, this will happen due to a lack of energy resources, RIA Novosti reports.

The day before, the Rada called on Ukrainians to prepare for the cold due to lack of fuel. Last Saturday, the deputy of the Rada Oleksiy Goncharenko said that preparations for the heating season in Ukraine had completely failed, the authorities had not formed sufficient reserves of coal and gas for the passage of the autumn-winter period.

Earlier, an energy disaster was announced in Ukraine. In mid-October, the ex-head of Naftogaz, Andriy Kobolev, said that the Ukrainian authorities made a serious mistake by not buying gas at low prices in the spring. The VZGLYAD newspaper told how Ukraine is paying for the gas gap with Russia, and also sorted out what caused the gas crisis in Ukraine.

Ukraine recognized the entry of the military into a village on the contact line in Donbass

The Armed Forces of Ukraine on Tuesday did indeed enter the village of Staromaryevka in the neutral zone in Donbass, said the editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian newspaper Censor.no ”Yuri Butusov.

According to him, Staromaryevka is located in a lowland, on different sides of the village at heights are the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and DPR units.

“Over the past years, reconnaissance of various Ukrainian units and enemy reconnaissance have repeatedly entered the village. But equipping permanent positions there is a big risk. Yesterday the intelligence of the 93rd brigade entered the village again, they did not occupy the village and retreated, ”the journalist wrote on Facebook.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian security forces seized the village of Staromaryevka in the Donbass. On the same day, the armed forces of Ukraine, by order of the commander-in-chief, Lieutenant-General Valery Zaluzhny, used the Turkish Bayraktar attack drones in the Donbass. Last Friday, nine transformer substations in Donetsk were de-energized due to shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Lavrov urged those who arm the “Kiev regime controlled by neo-Nazis” to think about

Russia is checking data on the use of Turkish Bayraktar drones by Ukraine in Donbass, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“As for the reports on the use of the Bayraktar drone by the Ukrainian armed forces on positions in the Donbass, we are now rechecking this information. From the latest statements that the Kiev authorities abound with and with which it gushes, it is very difficult to make out where the truth is and where the fiction is. And now we are rechecking by all possible means, including in contacts with representatives of Donbass, ”Lavrov is quoted as saying by TASS.

According to him, history should make all those who “indulge the capricious demands of Ukraine about the need to be admitted to NATO” to ponder.

“And of course, to make those who arm the Kiev regime controlled by neo-Nazis,” the minister added.

Meanwhile, an informed source of RIA Novosti said that data on the use of the Ukrainian Bayraktar in Donbass came only from Ukraine.

“We have not seen confirmation of this information either from Donetsk, or from the JCCC, or from the OSCE SMM. Information about Bayraktar comes only from Ukrainian sources. If the Ukrainian drone really flew and dropped bombs, then this is really a violation, ”he said.

Earlier, the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the supply of Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones to Ukraine would likely lead to destabilization of the situation in Donbass.

Representative of the LPR in the political subgroup of the Contact Group for resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine, Rodion Miroshnik, said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had clearly violated the Minsk agreements by the military use of the Turkish Bayraktar drone in Donbass.

Ukraine wanted to import gas from LNG terminals in Poland

Ukraine is very interested in expanding gas supplies from Poland, Ukrainian traders should be given the opportunity to buy gas from LNG terminals in Swinouysk and Gdansk, said Serhiy Makogon, head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator.

“We have lost about 4.5 billion cubic meters of transit gas for sure, and there is a risk of losing up to 10 billion cubic meters in this direction. And the possibility of gas import by virtual reverse from Hungary is under threat. I would like to note that Hungary was the main destination for imports this year – 95% of gas volumes. However, we still have the opportunity to import gas from Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and we carry out this import. Every day, about 5 million cubic meters of gas are imported by Ukrainian and international traders, “RIA Novosti quotes Makogon as saying in an interview with TSN.

He added that the Ukrainian GTS Operator is currently working on diversifying gas supply routes. “We have a guaranteed supply capacity from Slovakia – this is 27 million cubic meters per day. There is a possibility of expanding this gas pipeline. It is also necessary to complete the infrastructure on the Polish side in order to expand the possibilities of gas supplies to Ukraine. And we are very interested in the Polish direction, because there is access to LNG terminals (built in Swinoujsk and a new one under construction in Gdansk). We are interested in providing our Ukrainian traders with the opportunity to buy LNG gas from these terminals. We don’t need to build anything with Romania. There have already been test deliveries of gas through the LNG terminal in Greece. It is now cheaper to buy in Slovakia or Poland. But there is a technical possibility, ”said Makogon.

As a reminder, at the end of September Gazprom and Hungary signed a long-term contract for the supply of gas to the republic until the end of 2036, according to the contract, for the first time in history, blue fuel goes to Hungary bypassing Ukraine.Moldova is also considering alternative gas import routes to Ukraine. In mid-October, Yuriy Vitrenko, Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, reported that since the beginning of 2021, the daily volume of gas pumped through Ukraine has fallen by half.

Peskov announced the destabilization in Donbass due to Turkish drones

The supply of Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones to Ukraine is likely to destabilize the situation in Donbass, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

“We have really special and good relations with Turkey, but in this case, unfortunately, our fears are confirmed that the supply of such types of weapons to the Ukrainian military could potentially lead to destabilization of the situation on the line of contact,” TASS quotes a Kremlin spokesman.

According to him, as soon as such weapons fall into the hands of the military, they can potentially be used in the Donbass, “and this only leads to destabilization.”Peskov stressed that “this does not contribute to the settlement of this internal Ukrainian problem.”

In Ukraine, the “optimization” of the GTS was allowed in the event of transit termination

Ukraine will have to “optimize” the gas transportation system in the event that gas transit from Russia stops after 2024, said the head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator Sergei Makogon in an interview with TSN.ua “.

“Yes, we will have significant excess capacity. Let me remind you that at one time our GTS was built as the only route for the supply of gas from Russia to Europe. The total capacity of the Ukrainian GTS is 146 billion cubic meters, which is almost three “Nord Streams – 2”. But, unfortunately, transit is only 40 billion cubic meters. This means that 100 billion cubic meters of transit capacity is practically not used. And if Russia nevertheless stops the transit of gas through Ukraine after 2024, we will be forced to optimize our system so as not to spend money on the infrastructure that will not be used, ”RIA Novosti quoted Makogon as saying.

As the head of the Ukrainian gas transportation system operator noted, only that part of the system that is needed to ensure supplies within the country will be used. “We will leave the part that we need for our own market, and we will optimize the rest. Because the main goal is to reduce the tariff for our consumer. We cannot transfer all the costs of supporting our GTS to Ukrainian consumers. We are not planning to cut anything, it will be a planned process of optimizing the system, coordinated, calculated, ”said Makogon.

According to him, the Ukrainian gas market is quite large, since Ukraine consumes 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Ukrainian companies independently produce 20 billion cubic meters, and the country imports another 10 billion cubic meters from abroad.

On Sunday, Naftogaz offered Gazprom a 50% discount on the transit of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year in excess of the volumes stipulated under the current contract, which corresponds to the capacity of the new Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Last Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered Gazprom a 50% discount on gas transit to Europe in excess of the contractual delivery volumes of 40 billion cubic meters annually.

The psychologist told how much time a day children can play with gadgets

“During the pandemic, preschool children began to spend more time with gadgets – up to 24 hours a week, that is, a total of 24 hours,” said Doctor of Psychological Sciences Alexander Veraksa, speaking at a round table in the VZGLYAD newspaper.

“This is a sad statistics, given that a child should use a gadget for no more than half an hour a day,” said Alexander Veraksa, head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Pedagogy, Faculty of Psychology, Moscow State University.

“The content that is often positioned as developing is not,” the expert added. Veraksa is convinced that the psychological community should be more active in contacting businesses on the development of content for the development of children.

The norms on the permissible duration of the use of gadgets by children were formed even before the coronavirus, but now the conditions have changed, in turn, noted the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University, President of the Russian Psychological Society Yuri Zinchenko.

“And what is the norm, taking into account the experience of the pandemic? Remember how many prohibitive procedures there were for the use of gadgets at school, at an early age. When we are faced with the necessity or inevitability of this, then the question of what is the new standard of using gadgets, we still have to figure out.
