Blood pressure (BP) depends on age, gender, time of day, physical activity, stress and other factors. Blood pressure is an indicator of how well organs and tissues are supplied with oxygen and nutrients. It depends on the work of the heart and on the elasticity and tone of the blood vessels. Therefore, the pressure always consists of two digits. The first – maximum – shows with what force the blood presses on the walls of blood vessels at the maximum contraction of the heart (systolic pressure), the second – minimum – at the moment of rest (diastolic pressure).

In preschool children, BP is on average 80/50, in adolescents – 110/70, and in the future it increases slightly with age. But in any case, blood pressure in adults should not exceed 130/80.

When pressure is elevated, a person is diagnosed with arterial hypertension or hypertension, and with reduced pressure, hypotension or hypotension. At the same time, long-term arterial hypertension is much more dangerous for health than hypotension. As the results of studies show, with each +10 mm Hg. Art. increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 30%.

People with high blood pressure are 7 times more likely to develop cerebrovascular accidents (strokes), 4 times more likely to develop coronary heart disease, 2 times more likely to affect the vessels of the legs. Therefore, try to always monitor your constant indicators. If the tonometer shows 130/80, this is an occasion to consult a doctor, as well as adjust your lifestyle, even if you feel great. If the diagnosis of hypertension has already been established and the person is receiving treatment, but the pressure does not decrease, you need to go to the doctor again and adjust the prescription.

People with hypertension need to achieve blood pressure control of 130/80, which may require the selection and continuous use of an effective combination of antihypertensive drugs along with lifestyle changes. In this case, the pressure should be measured several times a day, and the results recorded. A blood pressure diary will make it easier for the doctor to make the correct diagnosis and choose the right treatment.

According to the World Health Organization, simple control of blood pressure will avoid the development of serious diseases of the cardiovascular system and their complications – heart attack, stroke, vascular dementia, retinopathy or sudden death.
