  1. A lifesaver

This stuff is the bomb. I haven’t used anything that gives better relief from uti pain. It works fast, too. The first pee after taking these is usually pain free. It will be bright orange, though. Like, almost neon and it can stain panties if you have any leaks, so I would recommend a panty liner or dark colored undies.

Azathioprine – medicine – NHS

Always follow your doctor’s instructions for how to take azathioprine.

Swallow the tablets whole, with a drink of water. Do not chew them.

You’ll usually take your tablets once or twice a day. You can take them with or without food.

Dosage

Your dose depends on your body weight and why you need to take azathioprine. Your doctor will tell you how much to take.

After a transplant

The usual dose on the 1st day is up to 5mg for each kilogram you weigh.

From day 2 onwards, you’ll take 1mg to 4mg for each kilogram you weigh. You’ll usually need to take this medicine long term, probably for the rest of your life.

For other conditions

The usual starting dose is 1mg to 3mg each day, for each kilogram you weigh.

Your doctor may lower your dose as your condition gets better.

However, it takes a while for azathioprine to work. You may have to wait a few months to see an improvement.

Regular blood tests during treatment

Taking azathioprine can sometimes affect your liver, kidneys or bone marrow.

You will have blood tests to check your liver function, kidney function and blood count before you start taking this medicine.

From week 1 to week 8 of your treatment you’ll have blood tests every week. This is particularly important if you’re taking a high dose, or you have kidney or liver problems.

From week 9 onwards you will have blood tests less often. Your doctor will decide how often you need them. You may only need them every few months.

It’s important to have ongoing monitoring for as long as you’re taking this medicine.

What if I forget to take a dose?

Check with your doctor or a pharmacist if you miss 2 doses or more.

If you forget to take 1 dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for the next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the usual time.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you forget doses often, it may help to set an alarm to remind you. You could also ask a pharmacist for advice on other ways to help you remember to take your medicine.

What if I take too much?

If you need to go to hospital, take the medicine packet or leaflet inside it, plus any remaining medicine, with you.

Post Surgery Instructions: Ureteroscopy (Kidney Stones/Stents)

)(Click here for a printable version of these instructions. )

Your recent endoscopic surgery requires special post hospital care. There is no skin incision but your urinary tract is very sensitive. You may have pain in your side during urination or urinary frequency.  These occur because of the ureteral stent and will resolve after the stent is removed.  Drink lots of fluids! You will see blood in the urine off-and-on until the ureteral stent is removed.  This is expected and normal after this procedure.  When the urine turns red, limit your activities and drink plenty of fluids. It is normal to experience bladder spasms, flank pain, and blood in your urine while the stent remains. Drink plenty of fluids to ensure urine is draining.

Finally, if there is a string on your stent, DO NOT PULL IT until the specified date! Minimize wiping. On the specified date, find a comfortable place to sit or in the shower, and pull the string. An approximately 12 inch tube (stent) will come out over the next few seconds, and that’s it! This is relatively painless other than an odd sensation. If you do not feel comfortable with this, call the clinic to schedule a nurse visit appointment to have it removed. If it accidentally comes out, you do not need to go to the ER or call the clinic necessarily. Just monitor your symptoms, if you have fever > 101F, severe nausea, vomiting, or severe pain, then call clinic or go to the ER.

Diet

You may return to your normal diet immediately. To keep your urine flowing freely and to avoid constipation, drink plenty of fluids (water, juice, milk) during the day (8 glasses).

Activity

Your physical activity is to be restricted, especially during the first weeks of recovery. During this time use the following guidelines:

  1. NO lifting heavy objects (anything greater than 10 lbs) for 4 weeks.
  2. NO driving a car and limit long car rides for 2 weeks.
  3. NO strenuous exercise, limit stair climbing to minimum for 4 weeks.
  4. NO severe straining during bowel movements – take a laxative if necessary.
  5. DO drink plenty of fluids to keep your urine flow brisk. (This will flush out small clots as they continue to form as part of the healing process.)
  6. DO keep a urinal near. (You may have little warning before you need to empty your bladder. Some dribbling and poor control is normal for the first several weeks of healing.)

Bowels

It is important to keep your bowels regular during the post-operative period. You must keep from straining to have a bowel movement. A bowel movement every other day is reasonable. Use a mild laxative if needed and call if you are having problems. (Milk of Magnesia 2-3 Tablespoons, or 2 Dulcolax tablets for example). You may purchase from any drug store.

Medication

We will add the following medications:

  1. Norco (narcotic pain medication)
  2. Colace (stool softener)
  3. Pyridium and/or Oxybutynin (urethral irritation or bladder spasms)
  4. Tamsulosin (stent pain)
  5. Antibiotic

You should resume your pre-surgery medication unless told not to. In addition you will often be given an antibiotic to prevent infection, tamsulosin to help with ureteral stent pain and stool softeners. Pyridium, the medication for dysuria, may discolor the urine. Your urine may appear orange or reddish in color. Take norco as needed for pain. Do not drive or consume alcoholic beverages while taking this narcotic medication. If your pain is not severe, you may take Tylenol as directed. Do not take tylenol at the same time as norco. Do not take tylenol within 6 hours of taking norco. Also, do not drive until you are pain free and feel that you can respond quickly in an emergency. Ask your doctor before you resume driving if you are not sure. These should be taken as prescribed until the bottles are finished.

Problems You Should Report to Us

  1. Fevers over 101.5 Fahrenheit.
  2. Heavy bleeding or clots (See notes above about blood in urine).
  3. Inability to urinate.
  4. Drug reactions (Hives, rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
  5. Severe burning or pain with urination that is not improving.
  6. If you believe you are having a complication, please come into the Urology Clinic between weekday clinic hours (9:00am – 5:00pm) or call the clinic at 303-388-9321. Someone will always be available to answer your call day or night.

Follow-up

You will need a follow-up appointment with the doctor who performed your procedure to monitor your progress.

Call Denver Urology Clinic at 303-388-9321 to make the appointment specified in your discharge paperwork.

From Bad to Worse: The Facts About UTIs & Kidney Infections

You know those few friends who seem to get UTI’s all the time? No biggie, they say. Just run to the doc, pop some antibiotics, and the annoyance is kicked (until the next time it happens). I was never one of those women, and I naïvely assumed I never would be. UTIs just weren’t something I got, I thought.

Until I did. In retrospect, the signs were clear: I had to pee every two seconds, and it was painful when I did. At first, I thought it was constipation. Then, I thought it was a bad reaction from the laxative that I took for the constipation that it wasn’t. Later, I thought it was the flu. For a fleeting moment, I even let pregnancy cross my mind. But a UTI? That simple, silly, easily treatable little thing? It wasn’t even on my radar.

So, like a very bad women’s health columnist would do, I ignored my symptoms (see my head drooping in shame). I had a big trip coming up, deadlines looming, and shopping and packing lists to check off before hitting the road. These things pass, right?

Well it passed, alright—straight up into my kidney, where it festered for over 10 days. I had a terrible fever, the chills, and constant discomfort and swelling in my back and belly. It wasn’t until I returned home and finally went to the doctor that I found out that a kidney infection was to blame. To save the organ at that point, I needed to be pumped with several bags of IV fluids, a nice fat shot of painkiller, and some serious antibiotics.

But worst of all, I learned this whole mess could have been avoided with a quick trip to the clinic, if I’d gone when I first saw signs of trouble. Here’s what you need to know to make sure you never let a UTI get the better of you.

1. What’s a UTI?

A UTI (urinary tract infection) is pretty much what it sounds like: an infection caused by bacteria in your urinary system—your bladder, kidney, and the tubes that connect them. The infection is very common—the second most common type of infection in the body, in fact—and is particularly prevalent in women, in part because of the way we’re wired down below.

2. What are the symptoms?

The first telltale sign is pain when you pee. It’s not always sharp or burning pain, but it’s an obvious discomfort. You may feel like you have to go all the time, even though not much comes out when you do. Your urine may also smell funky and could have spots of blood in it. Any or all of these signs point pretty clearly to UTI.

3.

What’s a kidney infection?

As I found out the hard way, a kidney infection is what happens when you don’t take care of a UTI.  The bacteria spreads to your bladder and then continues on to one or both of your kidneys, organs that help filter your blood and produce urine. Symptoms can include a fever, abdominal or back pain, chills or night sweats, and just generally feeling awful. I mistook it for a bad cold or flu (but of course, I failed to take into consideration that I had no accompanying sore throat, stuffy nose, or cough). But unlike a cold, the symptoms won’t let up. Without treatment, an infection can cause permanent kidney damage or blood poisoning, and can even be life-threatening.

4. What causes a UTI and how can I prevent one?

Bacteria can get trapped for a lot of reasons, but the usual culprit among young women is sex. Simply by peeing before and after sex, you can significantly reduce your chances of getting a UTI—doing so helps flush bad bacteria away from your urinary tract. In general, just keeping clean—and not by doing anything excessive like douching (does anyone think that’s a good idea anymore?)—will help keep the unwanted bacteria at bay.

Also, if you enjoy tasty cranberry cocktails, indulge away! The juice has been shown to help prevent UTIs by making it more difficult for bacteria to stick to the walls of the urinary tract and multiply.

5. What do I do if I have one?

If you notice any signs of a UTI or kidney infection, visit your doctor ASAP. He or she will probably take a urine sample, and possibly a blood test, and give you a prescription for antibiotics. Although over-the-counter pain-relievers like AZO can make you more comfortable while you wait for the drugs to kick in, they will not treat the infection.

Usually, antibiotics plus plenty of liquids will get you better in no time. And as with most things, the earlier it’s caught, the easier it’s treated and the faster you’ll recover.

While it’s true that some women do get UTIs more often than others—and some even get them chronically—no one is immune. And unfortunately, infections don’t care whether or not there’s room for them on your calendar. As I learned, not everything gets better with time, tea, and wishful thinking. So keep a lookout for the symptoms, keep an open mind when self-diagnosing, and remember: if you don’t take care of it now, you’ll pay for it later.

90,000 Bitterness in the mouth – causes of occurrence, for what diseases it occurs, diagnosis and treatment methods

IMPORTANT!

The information in this section cannot be used for self-diagnosis and self-medication. In case of pain or other exacerbation of the disease, diagnostic tests should be prescribed only by the attending physician. For a diagnosis and correct prescription of treatment, you should contact your doctor.

Bitterness in the mouth: causes of occurrence, under what diseases it occurs, diagnosis and methods of treatment.

Definition

Very often, when a symptom such as a bitter taste in the mouth appears, patients do not rush to visit the doctor, but try to cope with it on their own, eating or drinking an unpleasant sensation, as well as using all kinds of rinsing. In order to effectively get rid of the bitterness in the mouth, the varieties and possible causes of its appearance should be considered.

Varieties of bitterness in the mouth

In most cases, bitterness in the mouth is felt in the morning – immediately after waking up.After hygiene measures, food intake, it can disappear until the next morning.

Sometimes the bitter taste resumes after physical work, sharp bends or in a horizontal position.

Bitterness can occur after taking medications (antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsants, hypolipidemic, antihypertensive, hypnotic drugs) or certain foods (for example, pine nuts and almonds), which indicates that it is not associated with diseases.

Sometimes patients, especially the elderly, complain about the bitter taste of any food.

Possible causes of bitterness in the mouth

Bitter taste in the mouth can be caused by violations of oral hygiene and inflammatory diseases (most often gums). In these cases, food residues, accumulating between the teeth and in the pockets of the gums, begin to decompose and give an unpleasant aftertaste, accompanied by a putrid odor.

A fairly common cause of bitterness is the accumulation of combustion products of tobacco mixtures (tar) on the oral mucosa.

However, the main reason for complaints about a bitter taste is associated with reflux (throwing) of bile into the esophagus and oral cavity.

Usually this symptom is not the only one, sometimes it is accompanied by vomiting of bile, belching, pain and a feeling of bloating in the stomach. Pain in the upper abdomen and in the right hypochondrium is also possible, sometimes it radiates to the back and / or the right subscapularis. The pain does not change and does not decrease after bowel movement, with a change in body position, after taking antacids (drugs that relieve heartburn).

The reason for the throwing of bile into the esophagus is most often a violation of the motility (dyskinesia) of the gastrointestinal tract and biliary tract. Bile is necessary for the emulsification of fats, which determines its production and entry into the duodenum.

If motility is impaired, bile from the duodenum flows back into the stomach (duodenogastric reflux).

And in cases where the lower esophageal sphincter is also open, bile enters the esophagus (duodenogastroesophageal reflux) and the oral cavity, causing a feeling of bitterness.

This occurs in case of duodenal ulcer, obesity, diabetes mellitus, low-calorie diet, during pregnancy, as well as when feeding through a nasogastric tube (a thin tube is passed through the nose into the stomach so that liquid food can be delivered. This is necessary if the patient cannot eat normally.).

Nasogastric tube feeding

Bile reflux also occurs due to its stagnation in the duodenum (duodenostasis) after removal of the gallbladder.Overflow of the duodenum leads to agitation of the vomiting center and causes nausea, vomiting and a bitter taste in the mouth.

The feeling of bitterness in the mouth due to impaired motility of the biliary tract also accompanies a number of systemic diseases, which are treated by a rheumatologist.

Biliary dyskinesia is characteristic of hormonal disorders (including hormone replacement therapy). With disorders of the brain, in particular with damage to the medulla oblongata, dyskinesia is caused by a violation of the nervous and endocrine regulation of the biliary (biliary) tract.

Which doctors should I contact with the appearance of bitterness in the mouth

When a feeling of bitterness appears in the mouth, first of all, it is necessary to sanitize the oral cavity by visiting a dentist.

In the absence of dental problems, you should contact
a therapist to obtain a referral for the necessary research. After interviewing the patient and receiving the results of blood and urine tests, treatment can continue.
gastroenterologist or
endocrinologist.

Diagnostics and examinations with the appearance of bitterness in the mouth

If the examination does not reveal dental problems, as well as signs of rheumatological (systemic) diseases, the doctor prescribes clinical and biochemical blood tests for the patient to assess the level of liver enzymes (ALT, AST), bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase, urinalysis.

Azov | What to do if you have motion sickness and how to deal with it

People have known motion sickness for centuries. In Russian, it is also often called “seasickness”, because often this phenomenon was encountered on ships. English nausea, translated as “nausea”, also comes from the ancient Greek word meaning ship. This condition is also called kinetosis.

WHY DOWNLOADS US?

In 2019, the American clinic 23andMe published a study, the result of which was the discovery of 413 combinations of genes that contribute to the manifestation of motion sickness in humans. It was one of the first works to shed light on the genetic background of seasickness. Nevertheless, not so much is known globally about its origin and evolutionary reasons. But the world science still has some considerations.

In 1977, Michel Trisman put forward hypothesis , according to which nausea is a defense mechanism designed to save people from food poisoning . The scientist considered that if the receptors in the gastrointestinal tract cannot track the presence of toxic substances in time, then the body decides to get rid of food preemptively.Because of this, nausea and vomiting occur. Trisman’s version has not yet been proven.

The most commonly cited reason associates motion sickness with a mismatch of the image and signals of the vestibular apparatus. For example, a person drives a car and looks forward through the windshield. According to information from the eyes, it does not move. The vestibular apparatus, on the other hand, says that it is still moving. The CNS does not like the different data from the eyes and the inner ear.Such is the cognitive dissonance that makes you sick.

However, there are studies that cast doubt on such an explanation. According to work Thomas Stoffregen and his colleagues, when simulating movement, a person also develops motion sickness, in terms of properties and frequency of occurrence, it does not differ much from the usual one that occurs when traveling. Therefore, the actual presence of movement in space does not affect the occurrence of “seasickness”.

WHO IS IN THE DOWNLOAD RISK GROUP?

The main risk factors for kinetosis are pregnancy and migraines, as well as Meniere’s disease, which affects the middle ear and entails not only disruption of the vestibular apparatus, but also hearing impairment.

Women suffer from motion sickness more often than men. Children aged 6-9 also become victims of seasickness. Fortunately, this usually goes away later. The elderly are relatively rarely motion sick.

HOW TO PREVENT AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO TREAT “SEA SICKNESS”?

If you are susceptible to motion sickness, do not panic. Even obligatory trips and flights do not last for days, and you can always go out into the fresh air from vehicles.

Nevertheless, it is possible and necessary to deal with this condition.First, it’s helpful to adjust your habits and start new ones. To reduce the risk of nausea, you need to shake your head and shoulders less.

Also, experts advise not to read in moving vehicles. Ideally, you need to position yourself in the direction of travel, do not look into the side windows, head with your body and look forward. It will be useful to include pleasant music. Its positive effect on reducing the risk of nausea is scientifically proven .

Breathe deeply and calmly, do not break the rhythm. If you smoke, then another bad news for you: nicotine addicts are more likely to suffer from seasickness. So, if possible, give up cigarettes at least while traveling.

Hotel Pension Azov (Peresyp) Krasnodar Territory Russia: reviews, descriptions, photos, reservations

Dignity. Recently returned from this hotel and were very satisfied.

Location.
The hotel is divided into 3 zones.Nice paths, garden, chapel upstairs, which was unfortunately closed.
In the mornings, roosters crow and rams walk around the territory. Such a Greek exotic 🙂
Beautiful landscapes, mountains, sea, villas and hotels. Everything is white.
10 minutes (by bus 1.80 euros / person or taxi – 10 euros per trip) and you are in the town of Lindos with its narrow streets, the Acropolis and restaurants on the roofs, with views of the ancient city, from where you can see off breathtaking sunsets in the evenings.
Number.
We had a suite with a sea view and a pool in a higher building. There is a pool and a bar right next to the building. The room is beautiful, white, large balcony. Cleaning every day, everything is very clean. The furniture is not new, but we didn’t bother.
It is better not to take rooms in the first building (where the reception is).
Food.
Usually you take All inklusive to try it, but you don’t like everything. And here … Very, very tasty. Unrealistic. Lots of vegetables, fruits, meat. Nice wine. We were pleasantly surprised.
Beach and sea.
Vlikha Bay – small pebbles and sand, my legs don’t hurt, the sea is very clean, warm, I didn’t want to go out.And here I come to perhaps the only but fat minus.
This is Lezhaki.
First, they are paid. Strange for an all inclusive concept. Well, the tour would have been made a little more expensive, but the sun beds would have been left free. And so you had to carry money with you to the beach, why? It is not comfortable. For example, at the neighboring Tui Blu hotel (the hotels have a general manager) sun loungers are free and half of the guests from Lindos White, of course, moved to where the tax collector “caught” them.
Someone did not want to pay and just lay on the towels.Secondly, the sunbeds are very old and sagging. If you really pay, then pay for the good ones, from Tui Blu. I just wanted to tell the manager – change the loungers!

Apart from the little things, which we did, the hotel is good, we liked everything.
We recommend it with pleasure.

Nausea / vomiting due to ginger and cancer chemotherapy

Highlights

The use of ginger by cancer patients has been shown to be a natural remedy for reducing nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, a common side effect seen in patients receiving chemotherapy.Ginger supplements along with antiemetic drugs may be beneficial for cancer patients with nausea and vomiting.

Ginger – medicinal properties

Unsurprisingly, ginger has been used by various cultures for centuries, both for its taste and for its medicinal properties. Not only does it taste good when combined with literally any other food, the antioxidants found in ginger help with digestion, inflammation, arthritis, and even reduce the risk of diabetes and cancer.Unfortunately, just blindly eating a lot of natural foods like ginger will not magically cure someone of all health problems, because each food has its own special properties and effects on the body and should be used accordingly. With regard to ginger and its relationship to cancer treatment, there is ongoing scientific interest in the ability of ginger to reduce nausea / vomiting in patients receiving chemotherapy (as a natural remedy for nausea and vomiting).

Nausea and vomiting in cancer patients

Nausea is an extremely common side effect of chemotherapy, and despite the use of antiemetic drugs that affect certain neurotransmitters that cause vomiting, over 70% of patients on chemotherapy report what is known as chemotherapy-induced nausea, or CIN. There are three types of chemotherapy-induced nausea: expected nausea occurs prior to chemotherapy treatment and is simply due to anticipation and anxiety before treatment; acute nausea is most severe and occurs within 24 hours of treatment; and finally, delayed nausea occurs within the next five days after treatment.

Ginger – a natural remedy for nausea and vomiting

In a study by researchers at the University of Rochester, 744 cancer patients were randomly assigned to either a placebo or one of three different amounts of ginger in capsules to be taken three times a day for six days.“A mixed model analysis showed that all doses of ginger significantly reduced the severity of acute nausea associated with chemotherapy compared to placebo on day 1 of cancer chemotherapy ( p = 0.003). The greatest reductions in nausea occurred with 0.5 g and 1.0 g of ginger ”(Ryan, JL et al., Support Care Cancer. 2012).

At the time, these were extremely promising results because nausea and vomiting, not only being one of the most common side effects of chemotherapy, can also be the most deleterious due to excessive fatigue and poor eating habits. In our body there are so-called 5-HT3 or serotonin receptors, which are located throughout the nervous system. Without going into the complex biology of what these receptors entail, scientists have figured out that these receptors play an important role in causing nausea and vomiting, which is why all modern antiemetic drugs work by trying to suppress these receptors. Ginger contains several compounds that can also inhibit serotonin receptors, except through a different binding site than all other drugs, which is probably why it is much more effective. In addition to this, ginger contains additional compounds that can bind to other receptors to regulate gastric emptying as well as reduce oxidative stress and inflammation.

Palliative Nutrition for Cancer | When Conventional Treatment Doesn’t Work

Watch this video on YouTube

A total of 18 articles were systematically reviewed and analyzed in 2019 to provide a much more specific understanding of the effects of ginger on adults undergoing chemotherapy for vomiting and nausea.Although they were unable to find the ideal dose of ginger to be given to patients due to clinical heterogeneity between all trials conducted, the researchers of this meta-analysis concluded that “the addition of ginger in combination with standard antiemetics may be beneficial for chemotherapy-induced vomiting as well as outcomes associated with nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy ”(Crichton, M. et al., J. Acad Nutr Diet. 2019). Hence, ginger may be a natural remedy for nausea and vomiting in cancer patients.

After all, it’s always good to hear about the beneficial effects of a natural product like ginger. In fact, ginger has even been recognized as a “safe” food by the FDA. However, excessive amounts of even natural “safe” food can be harmful. Ginger can slow blood clotting, so taking ginger too much along with drugs that slow blood clotting, such as aspirin, can increase the chance of bruising and bleeding. In addition, it is necessary to closely monitor the use of excessive amounts of ginger along with antidiabetic drugs for diabetes.Hence, natural foods like ginger do offer benefits such as helping to reduce the terrible side effect of chemotherapy in the form of nausea and vomiting, but they should be used in the correct dose and considering their impact on other conditions, especially for older patients.

What food you eat and what supplements you take is your decision. Your decision should include consideration of cancer gene mutations, type of cancer, ongoing treatments and supplements, any allergies, lifestyle information, weight, height, and habits.
