Best hygiene tips for guys: 7 Best Personal Hygiene Tips for Men

7 Best Personal Hygiene Tips for Men

Even though humans have evolved and have fancy technological devices, the world is still a dirty place. As much as humans think they are invincible, these little things called germs knock some of us outevery day. The bottom line is that if we’re going to stick around, we need to be clean.

Maintaining good personal hygiene makes you look and smell nice too. Even if you have a subpar personality, people might still tolerate being around you if you’re clean. You also do not want to be labeled the smelly kid in the office.

Good personal hygiene is also about self-preservation and self-care. Germs will take advantage of any situation and we’re pretty sure you’d like to avoid getting sick because you ingested your own poo particles. Or someone else’s…

Also, infections are nasty. Have you ever seen what jock itch or a fungal infection in a belly button looks like? Or smells like? Ugh. We’re serious; it’s gross and these things are largely avoidable with a little scrubby dub dub.

While we can go down the rabbit hole of why washing your hands is important, the moral of the story is that maintaining good personal hygiene is one of the best steps we can take to stay, well, alive. It’s what the World Health Organization refers to as “conditions and practices performed to preserve health,” and we think that has a nice ring to it.

So, we’ve got a few hygiene practices of our own to help you maintain your own personal hygiene or tips for improve your existing routine:

1. Take regular showers

We do not care if you just sweat a little or did not “do much” today. Take a shower. Often. If you’re an active dude or someone who perspires when the temperature gets above 70 degrees, taking a daily shower is a good thing. This is our #1 personal hygiene tip for a reason, it’s the easiest way to maintain an acceptable level of hygiene without getting into more sophisticated territory.

Let the washer wash your worries away. And by worries we mean dirt, grime, dried sweat, dead skin cells, bacteria, etc.

Showers also help open up your pores and soften body hair which makes things like shaving easier, so we’re a fan.

2. Don’t forget the soap

While we’ve covered the shower part in #1, water alone does not cut it, and you need to use soap. That one-minute rinse-off might be refreshing, but it’s not doing the job. Slow down and suds up in the shower.

Get a good lather and soap up all the nooks and crannies of your body. Soap breaks apart dirt particles, kills bacteria and makes you smell nice at the same time so take care of your body with the most basic form of hygiene practices.

Men of the world, please note that there IS a difference between soap for your body and soap for your hair. Please use not only a good body wash, but get yourself some shampoo. Our Ultra Premium™ Body Wash and 2-In-1 Shampoo + Conditioner are kind of amazing, so there you go.

3. Groom thyself

Take care of that mop of yours and all of your hair. Just, all the hair. Up there, down there, grooming does not just involve your head. Brush it, style it, trim it, cut it, and remember that products are your friend. Set a reminder for yourself to groom daily or weekly if you need to.

We’re just going to leave this link to The Performance Package 4.0 if you are lacking in this area.

General grooming from head to toe is a requirement for any man trying to maintain strong personal hygiene practices. The best part about grooming is that if you look good, you’ll feel good too. Improving your mental health through your physical appearance is critical!

4. Take care of your skin

Your skin needs moisture, and nobody likes a scaly person with dry, flaky skin. Dry skin also itches like a mother, so keep your skin hydrated. While drinking water is also just a healthy thing in general, using lotion and moisturizing products after a shower really helps. Hydrated skin looks healthier and is smoother and softer, making things like shaving a lot easier too.

There are amazing products out there like our Hydrating Body Spray which is a mist can PLUS fragrance. Two birds down.

5. Deodorant, my friend, deodorant

Guys, we sweat. We just do. And bacteria is all around us. Even if we shower and use soap, bacteria just exist and they are a constant thing that gets on our bodies (hence why showering and using soap needs to happen often).

When sweat mingles with those lovely bacteria on your skin that we cannot see, a fun scientific thing happens. We get body odor (yes, we were lying when we called it fun).

6. Make sure all the sweaty areas are covered

Underarms = Deodorant

Feet = Foot Duster®

Balls = Crop Preserver®

That’s easy enough, right?

7. Smell oh so nice

No, your man scent is not sufficient. There is a reason we add our authentic Refined™ cologne to our products. Pleasant scents make people happy. There’s something in the human brain that creates positive emotions out of good smells.

So, by smelling nice not only are you masking the scent of…you, but you’re having a physiological effect on people. Just remember that subtlety goes a long way.

Wash your hands after using the bathroom

With soap. Nuff’ said.

Repeat after us, “good hygiene is a man’s best friend.” Say it. Live it. Go forth and conquer.

The Secret to Success and Health: Good Personal Hygiene

When it comes to men’s health, personal hygiene seems like it should be the easy part of the equation. Yet Gabriela Cora, MD, a psychiatrist and leadership consultant in Miami, Florida, says that too many guys bend basic hygiene rules. Dr. Cora believes good hygiene is critical not only to overall men’s health but also to being successful in life.

“Unless you are coming back from an expedition to Kilimanjaro or an African safari, successful men need to look the part,” she says. “Your persona needs to exude your accomplishments without uttering a word. This impeccable look needs to be obvious, from well-cut hair on your head to shoes that are polished and align with the rest of your image.” Here are some more expert-approved tips you should follow.

Wear Deodorant

This seems like a men’s hygiene no-brainer, but whether it’s using deodorant or antiperspirant, many men don’t follow this simple guideline as frequently as they should. Many men also might not realize the difference between the two products.

“A deodorant gets rid of odor caused by sweating, while antiperspirants actually stop and dry up perspiration,” says Maurice Voce, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Skin Authority, a natural skin care brand. “Look for an antiperspirant/deodorant combination and make sure the fragrance isn’t too overpowering.

Wash Your Face Twice a Day

Voce says this is not only an important personal hygiene rule, but also a critical aspect of men’s health.

“But never use soap, body gels, or body scrubs on your face,” he warns. “While it may be the cheapest way to go and convenient when you’re in the shower, using soap and water will strip your skin of essential moisture and upset its natural pH balance, leaving it irritated and dry.” Instead, Voce suggests using “a facial cleanser designed to normalize your pH and restore moisture balance.”

Floss Daily

You might know your way around a toothbrush, but men’s health definitely benefits from flossing after brushing every day. Charles J. Orlando, a relationship expert and author of the best-selling relationship book series The Problem With Women … Is Men, says he makes mouth health a critical part of his personal hygiene routine, and other men should, too.

“Either due to fear of the dentist or complacency, teeth are an area that so many men choose to ignore,” Orlando says. “Brush and floss, scrub your tongue, and go get a teeth cleaning. If you want a woman to put her tongue in there, it should be clean.”

Change Your Underwear

This men’s hygiene suggestion might make most men go, “Duh!” Yet experts say it’s amazing how many men’s hygiene routines don’t have them changing their underwear often enough. “Change them every day and after a workout,” Orlando says.

Hit the Shower

Cora says that this hygiene rule is simple: “Shower every day first thing in the morning and at night, particularly if you’ve had a long day — and by long day, I mean one in which you’ve worked more than 12 hours.”

Showering also should follow “every time you exercise or raise your heartbeat and perspire,” she adds.

Clip Those Nails

When it comes to men’s hygiene steps that attract a potential mate, neat and well-groomed nails are high on the list. That’s why Voce stays on top of his nails, and he suggested that other men do the same. “If your nails are long enough to collect dirt, they are too long,” he says.

“Don’t forget to trim your cuticles, the flaps of skin on the sides of your nails,” Voce adds. “Also, it’s okay to use hand lotion or cream to keep them soft and prevent calluses and cracking.”

Shave Daily

It may seem like a hassle, but Orlando says that all men should adjust their hygiene rules to include this detail. “Shave daily, even on the weekends,” he says.

“She wants to see you at your best, so don’t save yourself only for work,” Orlando says. “Men whose facial skin is tender and needs a break one day a week get an exemption.”

Manscape

Not every man does this — or needs to — but Orlando says it might be a good idea. When it comes to men’s hygiene, trimming hair everywhere is just a reality of the 21st century, he says. “You should manscape,” he says. “If you can put your body hair in dreadlocks, then you might want to think about shaving it back.

Here are a few simple rules that every man should know:

1. First you need to remember that the glans penis must be thoroughly washed under running water after each urination. If this is not possible, remove residual urine with sanitary napkins. Thanks to this, you will avoid the formation of inflammatory processes and an unpleasant odor.

2. Boys’ and men’s underwear must be exclusively made of natural fabrics. It is not recommended to wear too loose or tight swimming trunks. The best option is cotton “boxers”.

3. It is very important to know how to properly wash your penis. Wash your hands thoroughly before starting this procedure. You should not dry your hands with a towel, as a lot of bacteria “live” on it. The penis should be washed with warm running water using soap with a neutral PH that does not contain fragrances. First, you need to wash the groin area and penis, then wash the head, pushing the foreskin.

4. It is strictly not recommended for men to take a hot bath. This is due to the fact that for the normal formation of spermatozoa, the temperature of the testicles must be lower than the body temperature by an average of 3-4 degrees. If you do not follow this rule, there may be problems regarding the ability of a man to fertilize.

5. With a sedentary lifestyle, it is necessary to periodically do gymnastics or just walk more. This will help improve blood circulation in the pelvic area and avoid congestion.

6. After defecation, be sure to wash with water at room temperature. The remnants of feces that remain after using toilet paper can provoke inflammation, which should not be allowed.

7. It is also recommended to shave the hair in the groin area or remove it in any other way. This will reduce the chance of bacterial growth and protect against bad odors.

8. Before and after sexual intercourse, you should take a shower, wash your penis and perineum. This procedure should not be ignored, otherwise, after a while, inflammation may form around the urethra.

9. After the age of 25, it is necessary to undergo a preventive examination by a urologist once a year. As a rule, the representatives of the stronger sex try to consult doctors as rarely as possible, and even more so on sexual issues. However, you need to know that a preventive visit to the doctor only once a year will help to identify in the early stages and avoid the development of such serious diseases as sexual infections, prostatitis or prostate adenoma.

10. If you begin to notice that something is going wrong, for example, ejaculation occurs prematurely, erection becomes problematic, discomfort or pain in the groin area occurs, discharge or rashes appear – immediately consult a doctor.

Personal hygiene and hand washing

Enroll

June 04, 2018

According to the WHO constitution, “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. ” Andrey Besedin, a family doctor, tells about the prevention of diseases with the help of timely personal hygiene, its types and proper hand washing.

Hygiene (Greek hygieinós, healthy) is a branch of medicine that studies the influence of living and working conditions on human health and develops measures (sanitary norms and rules) aimed at preventing diseases, ensuring optimal living conditions, strengthening health and prolonging life; medical science (hygiene) that studies the influence of environmental factors on human health, its working capacity and life expectancy, develops standards, requirements and sanitary measures aimed at improving populated areas, living conditions and activities of people. The purpose of hygiene is precisely the prevention of diseases and the impact on the quality of life (including social life).

If we talk about skin hygiene in the ordinary sense, then care groups can be divided into:

  • face and body hygiene
  • intimate hygiene
  • hand hygiene

Skin and body hygiene

The best advice here is to regularly wash the skin of the face and body with clean running water of moderate temperature (it is better to choose cooler water for the face than for the body). It is extremely important to control humidity and temperature in places where you spend a significant amount of time. This is much more important for skin health than the selection of creams and cleansers. At your request, any cosmetologist will select the necessary products that are suitable for your particular skin type. There can be no universal advice here – we are all different and we all have our own characteristics, including skin ones! And, of course, for a healthy person, all care products should be considered as a cosmetic product, but not a medical one.

Intimate hygiene

All intimate hygiene products sold in stores are also a cosmetic, not a medical product. They should not bring any harm or benefit to intimate health, their goal is not to harm. From the point of view of Evidence-based medicine (evidence-based medicine), there is currently no convincing data on their effectiveness.

Intimate hygiene for men, women and children is slightly different. The fundamental point: if a boy or a man has no problems with urination and no inflammation, then it is enough just to wash the intimate area with ordinary skin soap under running water.

Intimate hygiene in girls and women has a more comprehensive approach associated with anatomical features. The main requirement for any product for intimate hygiene in girls is the pH as close as possible to the natural level of the vaginal mucosa. It is strongly not recommended to use products containing dyes or perfume fragrances. The best option is intimate hygiene products for baby girls.

The most important thing in intimate hygiene for everyone is a daily shower with the most neutral hygiene product!

Hand hygiene

And finally, what is clearly related to medicine is hand hygiene. Banal and habitual handwashing over the past century has saved as many (and possibly more) lives as antibiotic therapy!

Hand washing is one of the best ways to protect yourself, your family, and others from getting sick.

Washing your hands with soap and water is simple and easy. More importantly, it is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands are the best way to prevent the spread of germs between people. At home, at the workplace, in public transport, in childcare facilities and even in hospitals.

When to wash your hands?

You need to wash your hands often. Without fanaticism, but often. The following are key points of increased danger when germs can get on your hands and easily spread to you and those around you:

  • Before, during and after cooking.
  • Before meals.
  • Before and after patient care.
  • Before and after treating an incision or wound.
  • After the toilet.
  • After changing diapers or washing the baby, after going to the toilet.
  • After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • After contact with animals, animal feed or animal waste.
  • After contact with waste: food, household and other.

How to wash your hands properly

Wash your hands with clean, running water. Use the five step rule.

  1. Turn on the faucet and apply soap.
  2. Wash your hands by rubbing them with soap. Don’t forget to lather the back of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.
  3. Rub hands for at least 20 seconds.
  4. Rinse hands well with clean, running water.
  5. Pat your hands dry with a clean, reusable towel (if you are at home), a disposable paper towel, or air dry.

What if you don’t have soap and clean water?

Washing your hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol (the percentage is usually listed on the product label).

Alcoholic hand sanitizers can quickly reduce germs on hands in some situations, but do not get rid of all types of germs. Hand sanitizers may not be as effective when hands are visibly dirty or greasy. Also, they may not remove harmful chemicals such as pesticides and heavy metals. Be careful when using these products with children: swallowing can cause alcohol poisoning if the child swallows more than a couple of sips.

How to use hand sanitizers?

  • Apply the gel to the palm of one hand (read the label for the correct amount) and rub it on the other hand.
  • Rub the gel onto all surfaces of your hands and fingers until your hands are dry. This will take about 20 seconds.

In our age, hand washing has become a common and accessible process. It shouldn’t be underestimated. Don’t forget about him. This is really important. And remember: purity will save the world.
