This was the shoe of a stand up forklift driver who got his foot too far of the edge of the lift.   He was uninjured.  The cost of the injury without that shoe would have paid for every employee’s safety shoes in our company for two years.

I am sending some pictures of unsafe conditions to renew my membership. These pictures were taken at both our facilities here in XXXXXX Ohio and XXXXXX Indiana, these pictures were taken by me and you have permission to post them on your site. The 3 truck pictures were taken when a truck driver was turning around and misjudged the distance to the ditch and ended up driving in it. I also included a picture of a hand injury we had a few months ago, where an employee was handling a strip of steel and was not wearing the proper gloves and got cut. the employee received 6 stitches on his hands. The rest are blocked emergency equipment, exits, extinguishers, eye wash stations etc.

This happened this morning, a maintenance employee of 20+ years gambled and lost. He failed to follow safety procedures and remove his gloves before using the Drill Press and the bit caught his left hand kevlar glove while drilling a hole in a rubber wiper. Here’s the result. Broken/Twisted left middle finger, needed to have pins through the finger at the hospital.  Again I’d like to remain anonymous, thanks Bryan.

We had a First Aid injury to a Maintenance employee. The injury was a friction burn to the left index finger and left thumb. The employee was using a drill press to drill a 3/8” hole in a round piece of rubber,The drill caught in the rubber and it spun between his left thumb and index finger causing two small friction burns as shown in the pics.

One of my maintenance employees had just placed a Gerrad banding machine on a workbench in the maintenance shop with a forklift to service it.  The unit was resting on the table  with two legs off the table; the employee was attempting to rotate it to the right to get it resting on all four legs by manually lifting it. As he turned the unit, the leg next to his right hand slipped off the table creating a pinch point between the unit base and the workbench top, here is the result.

Broken eye socket: Pictures, causes, and treatment

A broken eye socket usually causes intense pain, swelling, and a black eye, which make it easy to diagnose.

The eye socket is the bony structure surrounding and protecting the eye. In addition to the eye, it houses all the muscles, nerves, and connective tissues that connect to and move the eye.

Some parts of the eye socket are hard, thick, and difficult to break. Other areas are fragile and more prone to breaking.

In this article, we look at the symptoms of a broken eye socket, as well as the different types of fracture that can occur. A broken eye socket always requires medical attention, but treatment and recovery times can vary according to the severity of the break.

The eye socket is also called the orbit. While it feels like one solid structure, it consists of seven different bones that connect to create four different areas.

A fracture can occur in any one of these areas, creating different injuries:

  1. Orbital rim fracture. These breaks occur in the outer edges of the eye socket. The orbital rim is very thick, so only extreme force, such as an injury from a car accident, can break it. This extra force can also injure the nerves, muscles, and connective tissues in the eye.
  2. Direct orbital floor fracture. An orbital rim fracture may extend to the orbital floor to cause a direct orbital floor fracture. This will usually occur as a result of severe trauma.
  3. Indirect orbital floor fracture. Also called a blowout fracture, an indirect orbital floor fracture typically occurs when an object, such as a steering wheel, fist, baseball, or elbow hits a person in the face. The impact leaves the bony rim of the socket intact but causes a hole in the floor of the eye socket. This hole can trap muscles, nerves, or other tissues, which makes it difficult for the eye to move and causes vision problems.
  4. Trapdoor fracture. Trapdoor fractures generally only occur in children because their bones are more flexible. They are a type of orbital floor fracture. Instead of fracturing, the bones flex outward, then return to their normal position. While not technically a bone break, trapdoor fractures can still lead to severe and sometimes permanent damage.

The main symptom of a broken eye socket is pain around the eye. Depending on the type of fracture and its severity, the additional symptoms below may also occur:

  • eyelid swelling
  • a black eye with very dark discoloration around the injury
  • bleeding in the white of the eye
  • numbness in the cheeks, forehead, or upper lip area
  • double vision, blurred vision, or difficulty seeing
  • inability to move the eye
  • a drooping eyelid
  • sensitivity to light
  • a sunken or bulging eye
  • a flattened cheek, usually making it painful to open the mouth
  • a pocket of air under the skin near the eye
  • nausea and vomiting, in the case of trapdoor fractures

Accidental injuries are the most common overall cause of eye socket fractures. Fractures to the thicker bones in the eye socket may be more common following traumatic events, such as falling from a height or having a car accident.

Sports injuries can cause a broken eye socket, especially sports where a ball or stick can hit the face. Using tools such as hammers, drills, and power saws may also increase a person’s risk of eye injuries.

Other causes include physical assaults and fighting. A punch or kick in the eye may be enough to lead to an indirect floor fracture if the pressure on the eye is too much for the thin bone to withstand.

In most cases, a doctor will make an initial diagnosis after physically inspecting the eye. They may also check eye pressure and ask questions about the person’s vision, such as whether the eye can look in all directions.

To help confirm the diagnosis, doctors use imaging tests like X-rays and CT scans.

The individual may need referring to a specialist to ensure that they receive comprehensive treatment. For example, an ophthalmologist can help diagnose vision damage, and a neurologist can advise on any nerve damage.

Many broken eye sockets heal without surgery. If doctors believe that the fracture can heal naturally, they may recommend some complementary treatments, including antibiotics to prevent infections and special nasal sprays to stop the person sneezing.

Other tips to help people feel more comfortable while the eye socket heals include:

  • sleeping with the head elevated on extra pillows
  • taking care not to strain while lifting, pushing a heavy object, or having a bowel movement
  • taking over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications, such as ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol)
  • wrapping ice packs in cloth and placing them on the area to reduce swelling

Doctors may also recommend that people avoid sneezing or blowing their nose while the eye socket is healing. These actions can put unnecessary pressure on the fracture and may spread bacteria from the sinuses to the injured eye socket.

While the swelling and bruising may start to improve after a week or so, the fracture can take much longer to heal. Recovery time varies greatly depending on how severe the fracture is and whether or not there are any infections or other complications.

Treating a broken eye socket with surgery

Surgery for a broken eye socket can be risky and is not always the best treatment method. If surgery is necessary, the surgeon may wait a few weeks until the swelling in the eye reduces.

Specific symptoms that may require surgery include:

  • an eye that is still pushed back into the eye socket after several weeks of healing
  • signs of lasting facial deformity
  • double vision or other vision changes that persist after the swelling goes down

A reconstructive surgeon that deals with eye injuries may perform the surgery. Depending on the specific fracture, the surgical procedures may include:

  • freeing trapped muscles, ligaments, or nerves
  • removing bone fragments
  • restructuring the eye socket
  • repairing deformities

It is not always possible to prevent accidents, but taking measures to protect the eyes and face may help reduce the chances of breaking the eye socket. Preventative measures include:

  • wearing protective eyewear when doing house repairs
  • wearing a protective mask when playing ball sports
  • wearing a seatbelt in the car
  • keeping the head against the headrest and far from the airbag while driving
  • using protective goggles when shooting firearms or working with explosives or pressurized items
  • wearing protective gear when working in a dangerous area, such as a construction site, shooting range, or driving range

Anyone experiencing symptoms of a broken eye socket should seek immediate medical attention. With proper treatment, the outlook for eye socket fractures is good.

Even when surgery is necessary to repair a fracture, it is likely that the fracture will heal without long-term complications.

Paulie Malignaggi shares pictures of broken hands suffered during bare-knuckle loss to Artem Lobov

DAMAGED

Malignaggi was plagued with brittle hands throughout his 16-year career as a boxer, and his bare-knuckle bout left both hands grotesquely swollen

Paulie Malignaggi has shown off his grotesquely swollen hands having been injured during his bare-knuckle defeat by Artem Lobov.

Malignaggi, the former two-weight world champion, was beaten in the five round contest in Florida at the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 6 last Saturday.

Malignaggi lost by a unanimous decision as he came out of retirement to fight Lobov

After losing to the Russia MMA fight, Malignaggi said a broken hand hindered his performance throughout the fight.

“I beat him with one hand, I broke my hand in round 2,” he told Seconds Out.

“I didn’t get an X-ray, but I’ve broken my hand enough times to know what it feels like.

“I landed a jab to the stomach, a right hand, one-two combination and the instant I landed it, I knew my hand had broke.

“I don’t know if I threw another right hand, but honestly, I didn’t need to because I was controlling the fight with my left hand.”

However, pictures Malignaggi uploaded to Instagram appear to suggest he may have broken BOTH his hands during his war in the brutal contact sport.

Malignaggi famously suffered multiple hand injuries throughout his 16-year boxing career

He wrote on the social media platform: “Life is sometimes about being adventurous and trying new things.

“Many thought I was crazy for trying my hand at bare knuckle combat and while unfortunately I may not have been born with very durable hands, it is still an experience I get to look back on and say I lived it.

“People have always had very little expectations of me in my life but I can proudly say I’ve always fought my way to a better life. In life we all have obstacles and I’ve always been driven most when faced with adversity. In the end, despite my brittle hands (4 surgeries on my right hand) I have been able to accomplish more as mainly a 1 handed fighter than most fighters accomplish with 2 hands.

“And I did it with no shortcuts and having fought some amazing fighters, travelled to some amazing places and met some amazing people along the way.

“You always wonder if as you get older you still have the ability to dig down when things get tough.

“After 2 rounds Saturday night I sat in my corner now knowing I would be a 1 handed fighter for the remainder of this fight and I am proud I continued on and showed myself I still had a willingness to dig deep when faced with adversity as I found myself once again in a familiar predicament of having a damaged hand with a determined opponent across the ring coming to rip my head off yet now I was competing in a new form of combat.

“I assure you its not an enviable position but I’m glad I stayed true to myself as a man and as a fighter in the moment and continued to fight despite having to obviously adjust my strategy.

“Respect to @rushammer who always shows up to fight and give his best no mater what day or place or at what weight and respect to him for the fight on Saturday. Obviously I feel like I won the fight but that is in no way meant as a disrespect to him. I hope he can take the momentum he gained from this result and make plenty of money for himself and his family in his career.”

During his career as a boxer, the 38-year-old was known for his notoriously brittle hands, having had four operations to repair his right one alone.

In his 16 years and 44 fights as a professional, Malignaggi only managed to record seven wins by knockout.

When asked if he will continuing fighting, the Brooklyn native said: “I’m done. I’m 38-years-old. I’m too old to start campaigning off of a loss.”

PHOTOS: Inside the U.S. Capitol after extremist Trump supporters broke in

Pro-Trump mobs breached the U.S. Capitol building as both houses of Congress worked to count the Electoral College votes and confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. Photos captured scenes of people forcing their way into the building, as well as walking around slowly and taking pictures.

Some of the violent protesters got inside the U.S. Senate chamber and took a seat at the presiding officer’s chair, where Vice President Mike Pence was sitting earlier this afternoon as the Senate debated Arizona’s Electoral College votes.

In one photo, Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., and other members of Congress took cover in the House chamber as the mobs attempted to gain access to the building. Another image shows a statue of former president Gerald Ford holding a Trump flag that a supporter placed in his hand.

Members of Congress, staff, journalists and others inside the building were evacuated to safety following the breach, which occurred following a speech by President Donald Trump earlier in the day where he urged his supporters to march toward the Capitol.

Many things can affect how your body responds to a symptom and what kind of care you may need. These include:

  • Your age. Babies and older adults tend to get sicker quicker.
  • Your overall health. If you have a condition such as diabetes, HIV, cancer, or heart disease, you may need to pay closer attention to certain symptoms and seek care sooner.
  • Medicines you take. Certain medicines, such as blood thinners (anticoagulants), medicines that suppress the immune system like steroids or chemotherapy, herbal remedies, or supplements can cause symptoms or make them worse.
  • Recent health events, such as surgery or injury. These kinds of events can cause symptoms afterwards or make them more serious.
  • Your health habits and lifestyle, such as eating and exercise habits, smoking, alcohol or drug use, sexual history, and travel.

Try Home Treatment

You have answered all the questions. Based on your answers, you may be able to take care of this problem at home.

  • Try home treatment to relieve the symptoms.
  • Call your doctor if symptoms get worse or you have any concerns (for example, if symptoms are not getting better as you would expect). You may need care sooner.

Symptoms of infection may include:

  • Increased pain, swelling, warmth, or redness in or around the area.
  • Red streaks leading from the area.
  • Pus draining from the area.
  • A fever.

Pain in adults and older children

  • Severe pain (8 to 10): The pain is so bad that you can’t stand it for more than a few hours, can’t sleep, and can’t do anything else except focus on the pain.
  • Moderate pain (5 to 7): The pain is bad enough to disrupt your normal activities and your sleep, but you can tolerate it for hours or days. Moderate can also mean pain that comes and goes even if it’s severe when it’s there.
  • Mild pain (1 to 4): You notice the pain, but it is not bad enough to disrupt your sleep or activities.

When an area turns blue, very pale, or cold, it can mean that there has been a sudden change in the blood supply to the area. This can be serious.

There are other reasons for color and temperature changes. Bruises often look blue. A limb may turn blue or pale if you leave it in one position for too long, but its normal color returns after you move it. What you are looking for is a change in how the area looks (it turns blue or pale) and feels (it becomes cold to the touch), and this change does not go away.

Pain in children under 3 years

It can be hard to tell how much pain a baby or toddler is in.

  • Severe pain (8 to 10): The pain is so bad that the baby cannot sleep, cannot get comfortable, and cries constantly no matter what you do. The baby may kick, make fists, or grimace.
  • Moderate pain (5 to 7): The baby is very fussy, clings to you a lot, and may have trouble sleeping but responds when you try to comfort him or her.
  • Mild pain (1 to 4): The baby is a little fussy and clings to you a little but responds when you try to comfort him or her.

Pain in children 3 years and older

  • Severe pain (8 to 10): The pain is so bad that the child can’t stand it for more than a few hours, can’t sleep, and can’t do anything else except focus on the pain. No one can tolerate severe pain for more than a few hours.
  • Moderate pain (5 to 7): The pain is bad enough to disrupt the child’s normal activities and sleep, but the child can tolerate it for hours or days.
  • Mild pain (1 to 4): The child notices and may complain of the pain, but it is not bad enough to disrupt his or her sleep or activities.

Certain health conditions and medicines weaken the immune system’s ability to fight off infection and illness. Some examples in adults are:

  • Diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and HIV/AIDS.
  • Long-term alcohol and drug problems.
  • Steroid medicines, which may be used to treat a variety of conditions.
  • Chemotherapy and radiation therapy for cancer.
  • Other medicines used to treat autoimmune disease.
  • Medicines taken after organ transplant.
  • Not having a spleen.

Seek Care Today

Based on your answers, you may need care soon. The problem probably will not get better without medical care.

  • Call your doctor today to discuss the symptoms and arrange for care.
  • If you cannot reach your doctor or you don’t have one, seek care today.
  • If it is evening, watch the symptoms and seek care in the morning.
  • If the symptoms get worse, seek care sooner.

Seek Care Now

Based on your answers, you may need care right away. The problem is likely to get worse without medical care.

  • Call your doctor now to discuss the symptoms and arrange for care.
  • If you cannot reach your doctor or you don’t have one, seek care in the next hour.
  • You do not need to call an ambulance unless:
    • You cannot travel safely either by driving yourself or by having someone else drive you.
    • You are in an area where heavy traffic or other problems may slow you down.

Make an Appointment

Based on your answers, the problem may not improve without medical care.

  • Make an appointment to see your doctor in the next 1 to 2 weeks.
  • If appropriate, try home treatment while you are waiting for the appointment.
  • If symptoms get worse or you have any concerns, call your doctor. You may need care sooner.

Call 911 Now

Based on your answers, you need emergency care.

Call 911 or other emergency services now.

Sometimes people don’t want to call 911. They may think that their symptoms aren’t serious or that they can just get someone else to drive them. Or they might be concerned about the cost. But based on your answers, the safest and quickest way for you to get the care you need is to call 911 for medical transport to the hospital.

Scaphoid Fracture: Symptoms & Treatment

If the scaphoid is broken, the few tiny blood vessels that supply the bone with nutrients can be damaged. Because blood supply is needed to heal a fracture, the scaphoid often takes a long time (a few months) to heal.

If the scaphoid fracture is non-displaced (bone has not moved out of place at the fracture), it usually can be successfully treated with a cast. Although the fracture may heal in as little as six weeks, it may take longer for some patients.

If the fracture is in a certain part of the bone or if the fracture is at all displaced (bone ends have shifted), surgery might be the best option. This might include the insertion of a screw or pins (Figure 3).

Scaphoid Non-Union Fractures

A scaphoid non-union fracture refers to a wrist fracture that is failing to heal. A fracture that is healing more slowly than expected is a “delayed union” fracture. If the scaphoid fracture is not healing, you may or may not continue to have symptoms. It may be a sign that your fracture is not healing if you notice decreased strength, such as inability to do push-ups.

Treatment of a scaphoid non-union fracture depends on many factors, including:

  • Patient age
  • Use of the hand
  • Activity level
  • Symptoms
  • Cigarettes or other tobacco use
  • Other medical and/or wrist conditions
  • Fracture pattern

The goals of treatment are to relieve pain, maximize function and prevent arthritis. Usually, surgery is needed to clean out the fracture site, to potentially place some form of bone graft to help bone healing, and to stabilize the fracture with pins or screws.

Treatment without surgery can include use of a brace, anti-inflammatory medication or a cortisone shot for pain relief. You and your hand surgeon can discuss which treatment is best for you.

Is My Wrist Broken or Sprained?

It is a natural instinct to put out a hand and to try to catch oneself during a fall. This impulse is the cause for nearly all wrist sprains and fractures. Medical professionals even have an acronym for this mechanism of injury: FOOSH stands for “fall on outstretched hand.”

Guide to Wrist Anatomy

When a wrist injury occurs, it can be difficult to determine what type of injury has occurred. Most frequently, the resulting wrist injury is either a sprain or fracture.

advertisement

Common Wrist Fractures and Sprains

A fracture is the medical term for a broken bone. The most common type of wrist fracture is a distal radius fracture, which is a fracture at the end of the long radius bone of the forearm.

See Symptoms of a Distal Radius Fracture

Another type of wrist fracture affects one of the eight small round carpal bones in the wrist. This is known as a scaphoid fracture. Scaphoid fractures are less common but more difficult to heal.

See Diagnosing and Treating Scaphoid Fractures of the Wrist

Sprains occur when ligaments—the fibrous bands of tissue that connect bones to each other—are stretched or torn. Wrist sprains are frequently caused by injury of the scapholunate ligament, which is a very important ligament that connects the scaphoid and the lunate carpal bones.

See What Is a Wrist Sprain?

In This Article:

Signs of a Fracture vs. a Sprain

People may assume the level of pain an injury causes is directly related to the extent of an injury. Therefore, a sprain would cause less pain than a fracture. This is not necessarily the case. Fractures can cause mild or dull pain, and sprains can often cause severe pain.

See Signs, Symptoms, and Treatment for Bone Fractures

There are a few telltale symptoms to detect a wrist fracture: deformity of the wrist or bone matter breaking through the skin are obvious signs of fracture. When these occur, individuals need to seek medical care right away.

However, other wrist injury symptoms are common for both fractures and sprains. These can include:

  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Bruising over the wrist or surrounding area
  • Pain when moving the wrist or hand
  • Weakness or inability to grasp or pick up objects

See Symptoms of Wrist Sprain

An x-ray performed and read by a qualified physician is usually necessary to confirm whether a wrist injury is a sprain or fracture. If symptoms of a wrist injury persist beyond 48 hours, individuals should seek medical care for an accurate diagnosis and treatment.

90,000 Injuries, fractures of the arm | What to do after a broken arm, treatment of arm injuries

The hand is the most active part of the human body; it is involved in any movement. And even when we fall, we intuitively expose our hand to the blow. Hand injury is not uncommon. What to do in this situation and where to go first?

Symptoms of a bruised hand

If you have received a severe hand injury, you observe the following symptoms:

  • swelling in the area of injury,
  • bruising,
  • severe pain on exertion,
  • limitation of mobility.

If any additional signs of malaise, for example, fever, appear, there may be suspicions of a fracture or damage to the ligaments of the arm.

Contusion or fracture?

Common hand injuries and fractures are easily confused with each other. Moreover, the trauma can be combined, that is, combine different types of damage to soft and hard tissues.

With arm fractures, there is severe persistent pain, immobility and deformation of the limb, however, only an experienced traumatologist can diagnose an injury or fracture using modern X-ray equipment.

Priority measures in case of injury

Following an injury or arm fracture, it is important to take the following actions:

  • Apply cold to the site of pain. It can be ice wrapped in a cloth, or just a jet of cold water. Cold slows down the rate at which swelling occurs and relieves pain. It is a versatile remedy for shocks and injuries;
  • Ensure the rest of the limb, lay it on a pillow and keep it stationary;
  • Secure with solid objects if movement is required. This can be an ordinary wide ruler or a piece of hard cardboard to which the hand is tied with a bandage so that it is securely fixed.

The next step should be an immediate consultation with a traumatologist. Neglected injuries and fractures can be very unpleasant and bothersome throughout your life.

  • A police officer broke the arm of a Mediazona correspondent during the voting in St. Petersburg

The attacker of a Mediazona journalist claims that Frenkel fell and injured his arm himself

Former municipal deputy from United Russia Dmitry Abramov claims that he did not attack Mediazona correspondent David Frenkel. He himself said this in a telephone conversation with another editorial correspondent.

Abramov clarified that his presence as an observer was approved with the chairman of the PEC, and “adequate members of the commission” also had no questions.

    – Whom did you represent as an observer, which organization or which political party? ”

    – I did not represent anyone, I am on my own, I am not a party member.

    – Non-partisan observer?

    – What?

    – I just clarified.

    – And the second question: why did you attack our correspondent David Frenkel?

    – Have I already attacked?

    – He claims to be you.

    – Look, he can say anything. There was a video here.

    – He was filming just on video that you are standing over him.

    – Well done. Look carefully, video recording is underway, everything is there. The police looked at and seized the tape.

    – Why did the observers and police have any questions to him at all?

    – This means that there have been questions due to the fact that before starting audio / video recording, what is happening, and so on, must register with the chairman. He refused to register with the chairman, refused to provide his data, began to scandalize, so, he blocked all the premises, interfered with the passage of voters, here. He made a scandal, shouted, the chairman asked the police to take him out. That’s all. The police did what they had to do.

    – They broke his arm.

    – You know, I was there. He began to run away from the police and knocked on the door handle himself. Actually I have a record of the whole process. People with a broken arm don’t act like that. With a broken arm, he calmly manipulated the phone, called, started yelling, only when he gave something to someone, I have filmed the whole process.

    – Did you try to help the police to remove our correspondent from the station?

    – Why, listen. He’s as thin as a drish, why help the police. I am an observer, I am an observer.

    – Our correspondent says that you were directly involved in the attack on him.

    – He is now making up a pile of everything here, there are enough videos, not only your guys filmed. So to tell, I did not need to help something, okay.

how children in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region suffer at the hands of adults

In a supermarket on Budapestskaya Street in the Frunzensky District of St. Petersburg, a 14-year-old schoolgirl was attacked by a man who was outraged by her loud laughter.

The parents of the injured girl in the group “Kupchino – Frunzensky District | Overheard ”in the social network“ Vkontakte ”.As it turned out, the schoolgirl was in the store with her friend. The teenagers were discussing something and laughing when an unknown man – according to preliminary information, he was drunk – suddenly struck one of the girls in the jaw with his fist.

The mother of the beaten schoolgirl posted a video of the incident, caught on the cameras of the store, and asked for assistance in identifying the attacker. It is noteworthy that, although some of the commentators supported the worried woman, some took the side of the bully, outraged by the inappropriate behavior of adolescents.

The incident may have details unknown to us, but it’s safe to say that physical abuse – especially against children and animals – is blameworthy. Unfortunately, cases of hooligan attacks on minors in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region are not uncommon.

Just two days ago, on April 4, in Kingisepp, an unknown man opened fire on the playground where the kids were at that moment. As a result, one of the bullets hit the 10-year-old boy’s neck. There is no threat to his life, but he still remains in the hospital under medical supervision. The search for the attacker has not yet been crowned with success.

A 36-year-old native of Uzbekistan who broke the arm of an 11-year-old boy while defending his son is awaiting a court verdict in St. Petersburg. The children had a fight while playing on the playground, and the man rushed to separate them. He pushed the student too hard, causing him to fracture his forearm.

Quite recently, in March, a terrible crime was revealed in the city on the Neva: the teacher of one of the district kindergartens was convicted of bullying little wards. An employee of the compensating group of the kindergarten dragged a five-year-old girl by her hair and ears, grabbed her by the neck. The malefactor has already been fired, law enforcement officers are engaged in the criminal case.

In addition, in mid-March, the northern capital was stirred up by an ambiguous incident: a 33-year-old motorist put a small child in the driver’s seat. The incident was captured on video, and the footage shows that the man puts the baby on his lap to let him steer. Perhaps, if the car had been parked, his actions would hardly have been considered outrageous, only the case took place on the Vyborg highway – right in the epicenter of traffic.

90,000 radial fracture with and without displacement / dislocation / fracture – Treatment and rehabilitation

The radius of the arm is a long, tubular, immobile paired bone in the forearm, the body of which has a triangular shape with three surfaces (anterior, posterior and lateral) and three edges (anterior, posterior and interosseous). It is located next to the ulna, so they are dependent on each other and interconnected. At the bottom, these bones connect to the bones of the wrist. This is how the wrist joint is formed. Also, the radius is responsible for the mobility of the forearm in the elbow, and the shoulder in the shoulder joint. But according to statistics, with almost the same structure and anatomy, the radius breaks much more often than the ulna.

    Types of damage

List of diseases and injuries associated with the radius:

    • Inflammation of the periosteum of the radial bone , as a result, the nutrition of bone tissues can be seriously impaired, which can lead to a gradual destruction of the bone
    • Osteomyelitis – a disease that affects all the tissues that make up the radius (periosteum, bone itself and bone marrow)
    • Fractures .
Classification of fractures of the radius:

      • Traumatic and pathological (depending on the nature of the occurrence)
      • Closed and open (depending on the violation of the skin)
      • Oblique, longitudinal, transverse, T-shaped, helical, impacted (in which bone fragments enter (“hammer”) into each other) and comminuted (depending on the fault line)
    • Osteoporosis – decreased bone density
    • Tumor diseases of the bone (benign and malignant)

Any type of fracture can be with or without displacement of bone fragments.A fracture of the radius without displacement most often occurs in the form of a crack in the bone tissue.

It is important to know that diseases and injuries of the radius are often accompanied by similar diseases of the ulna, so if problems with one bone are found, the other should also be examined.

    Symptoms

The clinical picture of fractures of the radius is as follows:

    • The occurrence of severe pain from the wrist to the elbow
    • Edema and swelling
    • Possible hematoma (but not always)
    • With displaced fractures, a characteristic crisp sound may appear on palpation of fragments and a visible deformation of the wrist joint
    • Numbness of fingertips
    • Movement in the wrist joint is limited

    Which doctor should I contact

In the event of a serious injury, the victim should be immediately taken to the trauma department, where he will be provided with qualified medical care.

    Experts who will help you:

    Diagnostics

Diagnostics for injuries of the radius includes:

    • Interviewing the patient about the circumstances of the injury
    • Initial medical examination
    • Radiation diagnostics:

    Treatment options

Key methods of fracture treatment: conservative and surgical.

Conservative treatment is prescribed for closed fractures without displacement and is the immobilization of a plaster cast on the injured area after the edema subsides.Along with this, the doctor prescribes the intake of pain relievers, anti-inflammatory nonsteroidal drugs and, if necessary, antibiotics. The timing of uncomplicated fracture healing varies from 4 to 5 weeks. After removing the plaster, the doctor prescribes rehabilitation treatment.

Surgery is necessary for displaced fractures and comminuted fractures. The main goal of all therapeutic measures is to restore the functionality of the injured hand (as it was before the injury).

The main treatment for fractures is reduction. The essence of the method consists in returning the displaced fragments of the radius to their original places and their further fixation. Reduction can be closed and open. Open reduction involves making an incision at the site of injury, matching bone fragments and fastening them with special structures (pins, distraction devices (for example, the Ilizarov apparatus), plates). This operation is called osteosynthesis.

After removing the plaster cast, a rehabilitation course is prescribed, which is individual for each patient. Rehabilitation may include: physiotherapeutic procedures (electrophoresis, UHF, paraffin therapy, etc.), hand massage, physiotherapy exercises (with a special complex of restorative physical exercises), adherence to the diet recommended by the doctor.
