Today I have been taking Contrave for 30 days. I am 5’7″ & was 188 lbs. when I began.  In 30 days I lost 10 lbs. virtually effortlessly.  10 lbs. is not a lot of weight, and I have 33 more lbs. to loose to get to a healthy weight, but considering I sit at a desk all day & study at a desk all evening & never exercise I am thrilled.  The first 2 days I took the medication I felt a little “disconnect…

I took Contrave for 3 weeks following directions. After a few days, I started to feel dryness in my mouth which followed by constant strong bitter taste. I decided to stick to it, but by the end of week three late at night I suddenly started to feel a sharp pain in my lower back which quickly started to spread out up my body. I felt a sharp pain in my chest & back, tightness in my chest and shortn…

I am on week 6 and have had very few side effects. I am focusing on lower fat diet and keeping my calories between 1500 and 1800 ( I have a very active lifestyle) I have lost 25 pounds so far and have been very happy with the results. My recommendations are; drink lots of water and keep on top of the constipation. I occasionally get nauseous if I wait too long between eating.

I’m starting my fifth week on Contrave and so far, I’ve had a positive experience. I’ve been at the full dose for a week. I found that each time I increased the dose, I would feel a little nausea on that day and dry mouth the next day, but after the second day I had no side effect symptoms.
So far, I have lost six pounds. I find that I’m not always hungry anymore. Also, I don’t feel like I need to finish my plate, and I’m not looking for a snack in between meals. I exercise 5 days a week (golf, kayaking, walking, or biking). I get my heart rate up, but nothing too strenuous.
I did some prep before starting to take Contrave. I stopped drinking alcohol about five days before and I cut back on caffeine. I also drank more water than usual on the days leading up to starting Contrave. Once taking the med, I made sure to have a small bite to eat before taking the pill (toast, granola bar, banana, etc. ). And I drink lots of water throughout the day.
I hope you find this helpful.Read More Read Less

After one hour of taking Contrave, I felt nauseated and then vomited a few times; no Gravel/Ginger/Pepto Bismo helped. I had to take Zofran (the strongest antinausea meds) to stop vomiting. I had dizziness, lightheaded, feeling drunk (very drunk), and sleepy, so I went to bed at about 7 pm instead of 11 pm like usual. The same happened for the rest of the week.
When I increased the dose to 1morning-1 evening, I started having hallucinations at night; (shoot, it scared me out). Also, I started having headaches and intense cravings for alcohol (I drink 2 times a year, Christmas and Birthday, that is in summer), carbs, sweets, and other junk food. So I gained 6 pounds in two weeks. I stopped taking these pills about 4 days ago and still have side effects. So now I am dealing with weird side effects: I have to overeat to stop nausea without a pill after I stopped taking Contrave.
OMG, not even sure how long it takes to get Contrave out of my system to feel better. I am glad the pills (70 pills ) were free (Contrave program), but now I am spending most of my money to deal with the side effects :(Read More Read Less

A little nausea the first week, then no side effects. I lost 30 pounds in 6 months. I work out 5 times a week. Cravings are reduced and I fill up quickly at meals. I was 10 pounds away from my goal weight and then I stopped losing. Perhaps with less weight to lose, the pills are less effective I went off Contrave and my cravings came back worse than ever. I’ve started back on Contrave but will try to see if 2 pills a day are effective. I plan to join Weight Watchers to get long term support in keeping off the weight. Read More Read Less

Been taking now for 7 weeks. Taken as prescribed. By 4th week it was taking 2 am and 2 pm. Mild side effects in beginning: loose stool, gas, slight headache/pressure in head. Bit if a higher heart rate and slight elevated BP. Increased my BP med. Side effects when away fairly quick. 7 weeks in and lost 20lbs. Very happy. 6ft 250lbs in beginning and now 230. Clothes fit much better. I don’t exercise and have desk job. My food cravings are gone. The battle to no eat in evenings and overnight is gone. It does take a conscious effort on my part, but it is much easier to eat small amounts. I will either have 3 small meals per day, no snacks and then rotate skipping breakfast with first meal at noon. Keeping to 1500 cals per day and sometimes lower. Had recent constipation and taking stool softener. Can afford Ozempic or Monjaro. Get 3 months thru contrave website for $330. Very pleased!Read More Read Less

I started Contrive on March 1, 2023. I am 46 yrs old and my starting weight was 221lbs. I went to my Dr to inquire about going back on anti depressants and look into HRT as I had a hysterectomy 6yrs ago and my weight was out of control
The first 2 weeks I had a bit of nausea but it went away by the time I started taking 3 pills a day ( week 3). I have noticed a significant difference in how I approach food. I no longer have cravings for my regular go-to’s (chips, crackers, bread, dips) and I have no desire to drink wine (and I love wine!!). Not wanting to drink is a bonus as this medication makes me quite dizzy after 1 5oz glass. My biggest side effect currently is the fatigue. Some days I feel like I could sleep all day. I have more dreams than I have ever experienced before. At the beginning of taking the pills I had nightmares. This has also decreased in the last 4 weeks.
I have been exercising 50 min (Pelaton 30min followed by Pilates 20min) 2 days on one day off. I also have a puppy who gets walked 30min 2x a day.
I have been eating breakfast everyday, which I never did before, usually a small bowl of fruit with yogurt or toast, small lunch and dinner. I have noticed I am fuller and have decreased my portions.
As of today (31 days in) I have lost 6lbs. I am happy with the results and will continue to use this medication.

I’m 55, 5’6″, 180 lbs. I’ve worked a Sedentary job my whole life and not particularly active. Have been taking Contrave for 6 weeks and am down 9 lbs. The perscribed dosage is gradual. 1 pill – week one in the am, week two 1 pill am 1 pill pm, week three 2 am and 1 pm and week four is 2 pills am, 2 pills pm. I had zero side effects until week 3 when I began 2 pills in the am, 1 at night, I was nauseous. Not bad enough to vomit but just felt sick all day. If you’ve experienced morning sickness, that’s what it reminded me of. ..but it was all day. Talked to my doc and he said to stick with 1 am and 1 pm. The main thing I noticed and happy about is I no longer have sugar cravings. That’s huge for me! I’ve always been one who has to have a sweet morsel after lunch and dinner. Even if it’s something as small as a chocolate kiss, I craved it and would obsess until the craving was satisfied. I now also have a significant decrease in my appetite and food just isn’t as exciting to me as it was before. Do you ever have those meals where you’re full but you keep eating because it tastes so darn good? I don’t do that anymore. I’m definitely aware of portion control and to be honest it hasn’t been difficult. Being patient is important too. Losing 1-2 lbs a week is healthier than trying to drop a significant amount quickly. I’m looking forward to continued success and overall feeling better about myself. Read More Read Less

My first try with contrave I felt sick, depressed could function I thought maybe tomorrow will be better I tried a second dose it was worse, I stopped and decided that $100 was such a waste to not try again, so I gave it a second try this time I took it in the afternoon hoping that would be better, well sad to say the same side effects, I felt not right, my head was foggy, I felt nauseous and dizzy I had to hurry home and lay down. I lost that evening and woke up still not feeling right thank goodness I was off work or else I would have to call off. I’m disappointed I was hoping this would help in my weight loss, but I could not feel this way one more day, I’ll have to continue trying through exercise and diet because I’m to afraid to feel like that again. Don’t drive while trying it for the first time, I almost had to pull over on the side of the road I felt so dizzy Read More Read Less

If you care anything about your health and wellbeing DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION (caps locked). I experienced stomach pain 10x worse than labor pains and 100% worse than pain related to a punch to the stomach. I had projectile vomiting to the point that I started vomiting bile, I was hospitalized with extremely elevated WBC’s. 5 days since my first/last dose, I am still unable to eat more that 1/2 yogurt and or applesauce at a time. I am taking four new medications and was diagnosed with new onset enteritis. The symptoms started within 30 minutes of taking my one and only dose. Please!!!!!!!!!!! Do not take this med. I am a Nurse and did my research before taking. I never imagined that I could be standing at death’s door from a single dose.Read More Read Less

I am 70, 6-4 and had ballooned to 250 lbs, a gain of almost 39 lbs. I was on Ozempic and lost 15 lbs the first month, but my bloodwork indicated some kidney issues so they switched me to Contrave. In two months I am back to the 250, still have cravings, always hungry and it’s frustrating. At the end of this month they will probably send me to a weight clinic.

I started Contrave nearly 2 mo ago, I’m about 10lbs down (goal is to lose 30#), on full dose (although I recently reduced evening dose to one pill b/c of the nausea). It’s definitely reduced my need to eat all the time, craving for junk food and sweets. I’ve also switched up my exercise and tracking what i eat. Drinking TONS of water. I will say, I’ve done that before Contrave and didn’t lose much weight, so guessing it’s the Contrave helping me now. Side effects – nausea, frequent need to burp, bitter taste in mouth. Some weeks I don’t have the nausea, some it’s daily. Has made me reconsider continuing, but the weight loss is worth it!!Read More Read Less

I’m going into week two and still just taking 1 pill in the morning. I have lost so far 5 pounds. I drink 3 liters of water daily. I don’t eat before or after taking my pill in the morning. I workout 3 days a week only taking a 45 minute spin class. I eat 2 healthy meals a day. I don’t do breakfast just 1 cup of coffee. I have had no side effects other than waking up several times throughout the night. My energy level is great and I seem to be more focused. I plan to continue on 1 pill for my 2nd week and then increase in week 3. When I eat I’m complete satisfied. However, I do have thoughts about something sweet but is kind of a faded thought in the background. My weight was 2/11 189.3 and as of today 2/ 19 184.3Read More Read Less

I am on saboxon which is used for opioid addiction and pain management. I was told by my family doc and the pharmacist that this would be safe for me to use. They were horribly mistaken!!! I ended up in a ambulance due to being thrown into the worst withdrawals I’ve ever experienced. My stomach was hurting and I had diarrhea, my body was seized and I was having uncontrollable body movements that I was sure was going to break my back. I couldn’t sit, lay down or just walk, I was so confused and unable to settle. My head hurt, my mouth was dry, I couldn’t calm down, lost my breath a few times and started panicking. The sweats and pain were making me want to crawl out of my own body. I was terrified. I had to leave work, and I was so over anxious on the drive home I had thoughts of getting out of my car and living in the snow banks because I could not get home fast enough. When I got home I had a panic attack and my husband called 911. This attack lasted for 8 hours and I only took 1 pill, this was my first day taking it. I will never take it again. I thought I was going to die. I do not recommend if you are in pain meds or anything to come off pain meds, or for pain management if you can’t take opioid meds. This is a dangerous combination of you mix them. Even 1 pill. I’m going to exercise instead.Read More Read Less

I took Contrave for 4 weeks, didn’t have many issues at first but never had any weight loss. When I experienced the worst bathroom experience of my life at the enc of week four I QUIT! Although my bowels seemed fairly normal up until that point stuff must have been backing up to a point that I thought I might have to go to the hospital. I seriously do not recommend this drug. A full week later still nauseated

I have taken Contrave for about 5 months. I lost about a pound a week. It was easy to stick to a lower calorie diet–with no food cravings. I strongly recommend that you take it as prescribed. Start slowly and move up to the 4 a day. It definitely does cause constipation, so be prepared for this. I was able to be successful in losing weight for the first time in years. I am only going off it for a while because it has impacted my blood pressure (decreased) and heart rate (increased). It also caused some mild chest pain. I do not consider these to be serious side effects for me. Just be aware, if you already have cardiac problems, it could aggravate those. Talk to your doctor.

I love this medication. Everything regarding my physical and mental health continues to improve. That said, there was an adjustment period when starting this for me. I HAD to follow the slowly building up to therapeutic dose plan or I’d get nauseous. It took about 3 weeks or so but then it automatically kicked in. I quit smoking without trying and am losing weight, no cravings or eating after dinner. My thyroid is doing better too. I am up to 3.5 /4 miles jogging. My only side effect now is constipation.Getting concerned.I’ve added psyllium/ metamucil into my diet and drank 10oz water ever 10 minutes for 30 minutes and no luck. I am starting to look up how long it is okay to not go because I’m that concerned. I will not stop taking this medicine though! It is improving all aspects of living for me.

I’ve been on Contrave approximately 6 weeks and believe I’ve actually gained weight. I suffered through the headaches and nausea. I am currently in emergency rm with 6 mm kidney stone on the move. I am being sent home to pass it. Very painful. Oh yeah. ..fyi…FYI… narcotics while on Contrave! Low carb and exercise is the best. Don’t know what I was thinking adding another drug for my kideys to filter. Remember if you must have emergency surgery, no narcotics or you could die!

I’m on week 3 of Contrave, 2 pills a day, am/pm. My cravings for food are almost zero. I am also eating healthier foods and drinks, along with the Contrave, as it will not work if you still eat fatty, unhealthy foods. So far, I have lost 16 pounds. But more than the pounds, I just feel better! More energy, better sleep. I do feel a little tired about an hour after taking the pill, but it seems to go away pretty fast. I recommend it, at this point.

I have been taking Contrave for about for about 5 months while also doing the WW purple plan and have lost almost 50 lbs. I still have much more to go but I am very pleased with the results so far. My doctor requires that patients commit to a diet/nutrition plan along with the medication. I have been losing the battle with weight gain for decades and the combination of Contrave + WW is giving me hope. I had some nausea in the beginning as I ramped up the dosage, but I hung in there and now I take 4 pill/day with no side effects. It has really helped me reduce emotional/stress/boredom eating and has helped with portion control. Now that folks are noticing my weight loss I am happy to share my experience to give them hope if they are struggling with weight. I wish more docs were trained in medically managed weight loss and would offer this to patients. It may not be for everyone, but it has definitely helped me. I feel better, sleep better, move better, and look better and am thrilled with the results.

I have taken this medication for three months and have lost 22 pounds. It does give headaches and pretty serious constipation, but it has been worth it to be free of obsessive emotional eating. I was also drinking too much wine and this has completely stopped that habit. I will now have one small glass occasionally with dinner and that is more than enough (more than that and you will get sick). It was expensive and not covered by my extended benefits (about $1,000 for the three months), but it turns out that I was spending that much on wine anyways without realizing it. This medication has changed my life. I went back to my doctor and asked to stay on the Wellbutrin component, because my focus at work has improved enormously. I think I was suffering moderate depression before without realizing it – I was just slogging through and coping by eating and drinking. If I start to slide back into old habits, I will go back on Contrave to get myself back on track. I told a girlfriend that it is t a magic pill, but it’s like giving you a ladder when you are trying to climb over a wall. You still have to climb over the wall, but it makes it vastly easier to succeed.

I have been taking Contrave for 5 weeks and have lost 12 pounds!!!! Whenever I attempted to diet in the past I would lose a few pounds the first few weeks, then stop losing weight, get frustrated and give up. I have been losing 2-3 pounds weekly on Contrave and I no longer have strong food cravings. In fact, my interest in food has almost vanished! The only side effects I have experienced is the first two weeks I had trouble sleeping, but has improved and some constipation and that, too, has subsided in the past couple of weeks. For the first time ever, I feel like I can accomplish my weight loss goal. Just needed a little help and Contrave has given me that.

I started on country of almost 3 years ago, I didn’t lose any weight but it took away the obsessive thoughts about food. It was the first time I felt relief from that issue my entire life. A few months in I developed constipation, it got so bad I had to stop taking it. Even now, after having been off the medication for two years, I still have chronic constipation issues. Never in my life have I been constipated or had hemorrhoids, even when pregnant until I took this drug. Now I have to live with it every day.

I have been taking Contrave for 10 weeks and have lost 18 pounds and have had no side effects. I would have lost more but I stopped taking it a couple of days before a social event more than once so that I could enjoy the food and it took a few days after to lose the appetite again. I am a 44 y/o female 5’8” and started at 235 pounds and now down to 217 pounds. My weight had been 195-205 pounds for many years but in a year I had gained 30-40 pounds because of emotional and stress eating and nothing has worked before taking Contrave to lose the weight. I am feeling very optimistic about losing more weight and get to at least 185 pounds.

Yes Contrave works and stops hunger cravings but damn the worst side effect was constipation and I’m not sure if anyone else got it but constipation is literally the worst along with bad headaches, body pain but then again everyone is different and have different bodies so just be careful when you do go on it! Just wish I didnt get side effects like some people so I can continue using it as it did help me lose weight. I think I tried Duromine before and it didn’t really give me any side effects.

Contrave is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I have just started week four, no side effects except for weird dreams. Definitely helps cut down my cravings for food. I have lost 4 kg so far. I have only been going for walks every now and then for exercise. I gave up alcohol, and this drug made that easy. I was drinking at least half a bottle of wine, and quite often a whole bottle of wine most days. l just have no craving for the wine at all. I was depressed also, and that has lifted and changed my life in many great ways. Not sure if that’s from contrave or giving up alcohol or both. I should not have waited almost five years to try this, but better late than never ??

3rd day of the first week. I drink a lot of water. slightly dizzy at times and drowsy about 1 hour after taking the pill with food in the morning. a little nauseous during the day. slight constipation but in my case beneficial compared to my condition before. Looking forward to see week 2 how the increased dose goes. I feel great, no swelling. I had pain in my genes due to osteoarthritis …. coincidence may be but they are reduced considerably.

Two nurses on this staff had your violent projectile vomiting, and so forth!” Funny thing, all symptoms stopped with stopping Contrave. The company has never offered compensation for the Thousands it cost me.

I’ve been on Contrave almost 4 weeks and have lost 18lbs! I went from being a couch potato eating whatever I wanted and having pecan delights almost daily to a regimented plan that includes Contrave. I have also been intermittent fasting, carb & dairy limiting, aiming for 40% protein a day, and following a low GI diet. I take vitamins, supplements, & wheatgrass, and limit calories to 1K-1.2k. Workouts are also 1 hr and mainly HIIT or strength training. I’m sure that all of this together has boosted my weight loss and I am so happy! Side effects: each time I ramped up my dosage I noticed really vivid dreams. Two of them woke me as they were so real/unsettling. I began ensuring I took this far from bedtime to avoid it. I also had a couple of times early on where I was extremely tired. After that no other side effects. It has made me less hungry and also far less resistant to cravings. I have had almost no cravings in my one month and when I did crave something I ate it since I’m so strict the rest of the time. I highly recommend this especially if you can commit to a healthy lifestyle along with it the possibilities are amazing!

I posted here on Feb 14 Feb having lost 10kg in 6 weeks. I am now 15 weeks into my Contrave journey I am now 19kg (42 lbs) down which I am so happy with. I am down 2 – 3 dress sizes and feel great, everyone is commenting how good I look and clothes shopping is so easy now! March was hard for me due to a vacation and weekends away which meant my diet wasn’t as controlled. I found myself making better food choices and exercising on holidays and while the loss was minimal for a month, I still I lost weight. I and am now back on track and it’s dropping off again. 9kg more til my goal weight but I am feeling confident I might be able to set another (lower) goal soon if I keep losing weight. As time goes on the cravings come back a little but nothing like what they were at all. I also started drinking coffee again after 8 weeks but alcohol I can take or leave.

Please be careful when starting this and observe your emotions and behavior. Contrave eliminated my desire for food almost immediately, which was fantastic, but after 1 week of taking it I became unusually irritable and angry and even started experiencing violent thoughts. The warning on the website said to stop taking it immediately if these side effects appear, which I have. I get everyone’s different, chances are you’ll be fine but please just be aware of yourself.

6 weeks into my Contrave journey and I am loving it. I have lost 10.2kg (22.4 lbs) so far and I feel amazing. I had mild side effects for the first 4 weeks – some dizziness and headaches (usually worse the day after increasing the dose) and constipation. All side effects ceased after week 4 but I do continue to take a stool softener every few days as precaution. Food cravings disappeared within a few hours of the first tablet and I am able to stick to a 1000 calorie diet eating 3 meals and a small snack each day. I have been exercising every day (cardio 4 times / week, yoga 3 – 4 times / week and walking 8000 – 10000 steps / day). Haven’t drunk coffee since week 2 and barely drink alcohol as I don’t feel like it and was worried about seizures. I think Contrave is amazing, I feel for the first time ever that losing 28kg will actually be achievable, and whats more I am already 10kg down… only 18kg more to go to put me from obese to a healthy weight range for my height.

Side effects from the Sputnik V vaccine / Sputnik side effects. February 2022 – February 9, 2022

Like any drug, the vaccine has side effects, and they are described in detail in the instructions

Share

” included two new adverse events, osteoarthritis and photophobia. What are these diseases and why are they included in the list of side effects of vaccination, “Doctor Peter” asked the experts.

The Ministry of Health has updated the instructions for the anti-covid vaccine developed by the Center. Gamaleya. In particular, the section on side effects. The medical document notes that they were identified as part of clinical trials and pharmacovigilance. Among the frequent adverse events of Sputnik V, as before, are fever, edema, itching at the injection site, chills, asthenia, myalgia, arthralgia and musculoskeletal pain.

Most of the side effects from the old version of the instructions migrated to the new one with a decrease in the frequency of development. For example, gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia), respiratory disorders (nasal congestion, sore throat, rhinorrhea), as well as headache moved from “frequent” to “very rare”. As stated in the new instructions, events are considered frequent that develop in 1 case per 10-100 vaccinated, very rare – in 1 in about 10,000, including isolated cases. From “rare” to “very rare” there was an increase in regional lymph nodes ( disorders of the blood and lymphatic system ), as well as dizziness and fainting.

Information about isolated cases of inflammatory polyneuropathy remained unchanged. Moreover, it is noted that a causal relationship between this adverse event and the drug has not been established.

“… the frequency of these events in the population is seasonal and can be associated with various reasons: infectious diseases of viral and bacterial etiology, surgical interventions, traumatic damage to peripheral nerves, any vaccination, autoimmune and systemic diseases can be provoking factors,” — according to the instructions for Sputnik V.

The frequency of disorders of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, the immune system has not changed – angioedema, urticaria, rash (papular, erythematous), anaphylactic shock and hypersensitivity remained in the “very rare” category.

But new undesirable phenomena appeared in the document. This is photophobia and osteoarthritis. Both fall into the category of “infrequent” – according to the instructions, such side effects occur in one in 100-1000 vaccinated.

Osteoarthritis – a disease in which the tissues of the joint are affected and destroyed, primarily cartilage and bone. Most often, the disease affects the knee joints.

Photophobia or photophobia Painful sensitivity of the eye to light, in which there are unpleasant sensations in the eyes (for example, spasm of the eyelids, eye pain and tearing), which causes a person to squint hard. Its development is usually associated with some kind of eye disease.

According to the chief freelance rheumatologist of St. Petersburg, academician Vadim Mazurov, the development of osteoarthritis after vaccination against covid is unlikely.

Vadim Mazurov — chief freelance rheumatologist of St. Petersburg, head of the Department of Therapy and Rheumatology. E. E. Eichwald SZGMU them. Mechnikova, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, doctor of medical sciences.

— Mass vaccination against COVID-19 has been going on for a little over a year. At the same time, osteoarthritis (although it is still called osteoarthritis in the International Classification of Diseases) is a disease that develops slowly over years. In principle, it cannot manifest itself within a few months after vaccination – this is the essence of the matter. In our practice, there is no evidence that osteoarthritis can develop after vaccination.

Let’s get back to the statistics. We are processing data on vaccination against covid Petersburgers, which are observed by rheumatologists, primarily on the basis of the City Rheumatology Hospital No. 25. To date, more than 15 thousand of our patients have already been vaccinated. Of this large group of vaccinated, we recorded only 5 cases of undifferentiated (with an indefinite form. – ed. .) arthritis – not osteoarthritis, but rheumatoid arthritis. These are fundamentally different diseases.

But even in this case, it is impossible to say unequivocally that the vaccine was the cause of the disease. Exacerbation of arthritis can provoke other concomitant diseases, which rheumatological patients have enough. Coronavirus infection, by the way, can cause post-viral arthritis in those who have been ill. Rarely, but it happens. Usually, after 10-14 days, on the background of treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), everything disappears without a trace. More serious post-covid consequences are also recorded – cases of rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus. This is not a pattern, but we also observed such patients.

The only question is when to get vaccinated. And it should be done either in the stage of remission, or when there is no high activity of the immuno-inflammatory process.

Regarding osteoarthritis. Once again, it progresses slowly. This is a local, moderate inflammation in the membranes of 1-3 joints – as a rule, the knee joints are more often affected. Osteoarthritis is characterized by a slight swelling of the joint, the absence of elevated body temperature.

Unlike chronic arthritis (rheumatoid or psoriatic), in osteoarthritis there is no systemic damage to the organs and systems of the body, there is no constant pain syndrome and changes in blood parameters (C-reactive protein, ESR). In general, osteoarthritis is a widespread disease in the population. They suffer about 13%. In St. Petersburg, rheumatologists see approximately 360,000 residents with osteoarthritis. There are many risk factors for this disease – these are injuries, metabolic disorders associated with diabetes and obesity, genetic disorders.

For people with chronic diseases, it is especially important to consult a doctor before vaccination

increased eye sensitivity to light.

Igor Grigoriev — ophthalmic surgeon of the Eye Microsurgery Center “I see”.

— Most often, this syndrome develops under the influence of external factors on the cornea of the eye. There are many nerve endings in the cornea, and it is very sensitive, so damage to one small root is enough to cause such a reaction as photophobia.

Photophobia may occur in the presence of neurological disorders such as migraine. As for its occurrence after vaccination, there is no evidence base on this subject in the medical literature. The vaccine does not affect any of the organs, any structure of the body – it is aimed at the immune system. Could immune stress in turn cause such a reaction? Traditional medicine can neither confirm nor deny this.

According to immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov, updating drug instructions is a routine pharmacovigilance practice. And there is nothing wrong with adding two new side effects to the vaccine.

Nikolai Kryuchkov – Immunologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences.

— In case of mass vaccination, physicians must notify patients with complaints that may be related to vaccination. If an adverse event develops after vaccination, for example, after 1-3 months, and the doctor regards it as possibly related to the vaccination, he draws up an appropriate notice and sends it to the pharmacovigilance system. When several cases of the same type are collected, they should be included in the instructions for the preparation. This is a common pharmacovigilance practice.

In Russia, however, it does not work very well, but still. Finding, for example, a few cases of osteoarthritis per million vaccinated is not difficult. Although osteoarthritis is not some rapidly developing disease. Unlike fulminant, reactive arthritis, it progresses for a long time.

Much depends not only on the frequency, but also on the severity of the consequences, the reliability of the established connection – it is usually speculative, established according to clinical data. In general, the rarer and milder the adverse event, the more likely it is to go unnoticed. In rare cases, it is also difficult to establish an exact relationship between a vaccine and a consequence. In this case, I think that it is rather probable, possible.

For example, vaccinated patients complained of conjunctivitis, photophobia, which often occurs against the background of any SARS, allergies. Now is the SARS season and, perhaps, these phenomena are connected with it. According to my information, there is nothing critical in adding new side effects. There is simply an obligation to officially register them.

According to clinical studies, Sputnik V effectively protects against severe COVID-19

Share

According to the updated instructions for Sputnik V, according to the third phase of a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial, the effectiveness of the vaccine against the Wuhan strain of coronavirus is more than 91%. And six months after vaccination, under conditions of dominance of the delta strain, it was already 70.5%.

“Thus, immunization significantly reduces the likelihood of the disease,” the instructions say.

For moderate to severe forms of COVID-19the drug protected more than 88% during the six months of observation.

Immunogenicity analysis showed that the vaccine forms a humoral immune response in volunteers: their geometric mean titer was 9009 on day 42 and 1708 on day 180. In the placebo group, 55.6 and 110.2, respectively . At the same time, the document clarifies that the protective antibody titer remains unknown, as well as the duration of protection.

There are currently 42,433 patients with covid, the Ministry of Health reported.

Another 13 people died: all directly from COVID-19.

By February 9, 7882 patients with COVID-19 had died in the Chelyabinsk region since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 6621 were from complications of coronavirus, another 1261 were from other serious diseases, the infection was concomitant.

The Blokhin Oncology Center explained doctors’ complaints about drugs

Media reports that the leadership of the Blokhin Cancer Research Center complained to the Ministry of Health and Roszdravnadzor about the poor quality of Russian generics used in the treatment of cancer in children. In the medical institution itself, they said that they had no claims specifically against domestic manufacturers. Gazeta.Ru learned from experts why the world will not survive without generics and how Russian pharmaceutical manufacturers are protected on the market.

No complaints?

Specialists of the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology (NMRC) sent an analytical note to the Ministry of Health, in which they reported the low quality of Russian generics for antitumor and accompanying therapy for children. This is reported by the specialized publication Pharmaceutical Bulletin, which has a copy of the document at its disposal.

The note is dated December 2019 and signed by Svetlana Varfolomeeva, deputy director of the center for scientific and medical work. The document notes that drugs containing the active ingredients vincristine, ifosfamide, cyclophosphamide, melphalan and others show low activity and serious side effects during treatment.

Thus, the authors of the document clarified that

when a standard dose of the Russian generic ondasetron is administered, nausea persists in 80% of patients, and repeated injections “have no effect” and cause electrolyte disturbances.

Another domestic generic with the active ingredient irinotecan, used for the treatment of soft tissue sarcoma, has no experience of use in children under five years of age.

In this regard, the use of an imported drug with a similar substance for such patients “is an uncontested choice.” Meanwhile, the lack of convincing evidence of the effectiveness and safety of Russian-made analogues threatens to undermine the credibility of the results of antitumor treatment achieved in oncopediatrics, experts emphasize.

The authors of the document pointed out that the side effects caused by domestic drugs require corrective therapy, and this increases the intervals between chemotherapy courses, affects the results of treatment and leads to economic losses, as the costs of treatment increase.

According to the press service of the Blokhin Cancer Center to Gazeta.Ru, the medical institution indeed sent a memorandum to the Ministry of Health, Roszdravnadzor, and Alexander Rumyantsev, president of the National Society of Pediatric Hematologists and Oncologists. At the same time, they denied the information that 14 Russian generics were indicated in the letter, as previously reported by a number of media outlets.

The press service emphasized that the document does not mention the low quality of Russian-made medicines. According to accepted world practice, the center constantly analyzes information on the tolerability, efficacy and side effects of a particular drug.

“No, of course, there was no talk of any 14 generics. If suddenly some medicine causes an allergy or is not effective enough, according to the doctor, it is immediately replaced by the patient.

This may be due to individual intolerance or to the drug itself. If certain drugs, regardless of the country of manufacture, cause pronounced side effects, information about this is sent to Roszdravnadzor, ”a representative of the medical institution told Gazeta.Ru.

Drug information is analyzed and accumulated every day. If doctors realize that a certain medicine is ineffective or leads to side effects too often, the medical institution stops purchasing it.

“At the doctors of the N.N. N.N. Blokhin has no complaints about Russian generics. It’s not about the manufacturer. In the center, along with imported drugs, medicines from domestic manufacturers are also successfully used. At the same time, some imported medicines can cause undesirable effects,” the medical facility concluded.

Without analogues in any way

Doctors throughout the country submit similar documents on the analysis of the use of certain drugs to Roszdravnadzor, which is the main body of pharmacovigilance. Earlier it became known that the management of another oncology center in the Urals informed the department about the problems that doctors encountered when using Russian generics.

Former State Duma deputy and deputy chief physician of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital in Yekaterinburg Larisa Fechina stated that

Over the past two years, specialists from the Center for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at the CSTO have submitted 19 analytical documents on antitumor drugs and accompanying therapy drugs to the regional Roszdravnadzor due to unwanted side reactions. At the same time, the specialists presented the main claim to domestic generics.

Fechina added that, according to her experience, the effectiveness of these drugs is sometimes lower than that of imported drugs. Perhaps the reason is that Russian enterprises use low-quality substances, she believes. In addition, generics do not pass full-fledged clinical trials. On the one hand, this significantly reduces their cost on the market, on the other hand, it makes it more difficult to predict their effect on the body than in the case of originators.

Nikolai Dronov, Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Movement Against Cancer, member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Health, commenting on the situation, noted that the issue of the effectiveness of drugs cannot be generalized.

“You have to understand that each drug is individual and patients can perceive them very differently. In any case, each drug, including a generic, put on the market must meet the requirements for safety and efficacy. Otherwise, the pharmacovigilance authorities take measures up to the cancellation of registration certificates for the medicine, ”he explained in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.

In the last two or three years, since many generic drugs, including biosimilars, appeared in Russia, the number of complaints from cancer patients regarding the unavailability of the most common drugs for the treatment of many forms of cancer has significantly decreased in the Movement Against Cancer.

Biosimilars have become a lifesaver for many cancer patients, who, before they appeared, had practically no full-fledged drug treatment, Dronov believes.

“Now we are dealing mainly with complaints about the shortage of the most expensive drugs. If earlier at least half of the requests to our Movement concerned medicines, then as of December 15, since the beginning of this year, only a third of the requests (36%) relate to drug provision, ”he clarifies.

The procurement of drugs for state medical institutions is carried out by regional authorities or the Russian Ministry of Health, if we are talking about subordinate federal institutions (for example, Blokhin National Medical Research Center).

“There are protectionist measures in Russia aimed at supporting domestic producers. I think they are generally correct. For public procurement of medicines, there is a “third wheel” rule: if there are two of our manufacturers at the pharmaceutical auction for the purchase of medicines, then a foreign one will not be admitted to them, ”says Dronov. At the same time, the legislation does not oblige the purchaser to purchase a certain volume of domestic drugs.

As noted by the source of the publication, generics are used in the treatment of diseases around the world. It is impossible to use exclusively original drugs due to their high cost.

Dronov believes that the introduction of a drug reimbursement system in the future will help create a “safety cushion” for patients. With this approach, the state guarantees patients a certain set of medicines for a certain amount. If the patient wants to take other, more expensive drugs, then he has the right to buy them by paying the difference in price.
