How Long Does it Take for Cellulitis to Heal?

Cellulitis is a common and sometimes serious bacterial skin infection. It often develops on areas of the body with edema (swelling/poor circulation), the site of an injury, the site of a surgery, or around an active skin rash. With proper treatment and care, small patches of cellulitis can heal in around five or seven days. However, the healing process is largely influenced by the severity of your cellulitis as well as your current health condition. For example, severe cases of cellulitis can last for multiple weeks despite treatment. And the risk increases for those with weakened immune systems, a history of cellulitis/skin infections, diabetes, or obese individuals. The biggest takeaway is to seek treatment for your skin infection as soon as possible; the earlier the diagnosis, the sooner treatment can begin and the faster your recovery period will be. For life-threatening, limb-threatening, or time-sensitive symptoms, contact 911 immediately.

Cellulitis Symptoms & Treatment

So, how can you tell if your skin infection is cellulitis? Most cellulitis infections are easy to visually diagnose; your doctor may suggest additional testing to rule out other conditions if the diagnosis is questionable. Cellulitis skin infections are typically painful, red, swollen, and warm to the touch. While cellulitis can occur anywhere on the body, it usually appears on the lower legs, face, or arms. It can also occur around cracked or broken skin that’s exposed to bacteria.

Most cases of cellulitis can be treated with an oral antibiotic prescription provided by your doctor. The timeline for your antibiotic will vary depending on the severity of your case and current health. That said, within three days of starting the antibiotic, you should be able to determine whether your infection is responding to treatment. Read on to learn more about the typical healing process of cellulitis with treatment.

Cellulitis Healing Stages

The healing process of cellulitis can be tracked visually. In most cases, symptoms will disappear after a few days on antibiotics. Signs of healing to look for include:

  • Reduced pain
  • Less firmness around the infection
  • Decreased swelling
  • Diminished redness

It’s important to note that sometimes cellulitis symptoms can get worse before they get better during treatment. While waiting for the antibiotics to kick in, you can help lessen symptoms with rest and self-care remedies like:

  • Elevating the affected limb above heart level to bring down swelling
  • Wearing loose-fitting clothing
  • Applying cool compresses to the infected site
  • Taking over-the-counter pain medication, if professionally advised

Your cellulitis symptoms will likely resolve before you finish taking the prescribed antibiotics. However, you must finish your prescription to ensure complete treatment of the infection.

When to Seek Immediate Care

While monitoring the healing stages of cellulitis, if you notice worsening symptoms, contact your doctor. It could be a sign that the antibiotics aren’t working or a sign of a cellulitis complication. Seek immediate medical care if you develop any new symptoms during treatment, including:

  • Fever
  • Increased edema (swelling)
  • The infection spreading or growing
  • An abscess around the infection

Working ways to get rid of cellulite during pregnancy

The appearance of cellulite during pregnancy is a physical condition of this period. Cellulite prevention during pregnancy and salon treatments under the supervision of an experienced specialist will help you maintain your figure safely, effectively and painlessly.

Weight gain is a common occurrence during pregnancy. The body takes care of the development of the fetus and accumulates the substances it needs. This is especially noticeable in the hips and buttocks – cellulite may appear on them. Most expectant mothers face this phenomenon – even those who were not familiar with skin and figure problems.

Cellulite: how does it appear?

The main causes of annoying “orange peel”:

  • rapid weight gain;
  • decrease in physical activity – muscle tone weakens, there is a slowdown in the outflow of lymph;
  • hormonal changes, circulatory disorders;
  • increase in food intake, change in diet;
  • metabolic disorder, the appearance of puffiness, which also provokes tissue unevenness;
  • lack of vitamins and minerals.

Cellulite is easy to determine – squeeze the skin on the thigh with two fingers – if the skin remains smooth – congratulations! If small tubercles appear on the skin, you need to think and do your best to prevent the development of cellulite during pregnancy and not start it after the birth of a child.

Cellulite is not a cause for despair: we fight with manifestations

Women in position change their lifestyle – there are strict restrictions. You must be attentive to your health and not harm the unborn baby. Unaesthetic bumps that appear on an already changed figure can plunge you into despair – do not be discouraged. As soon as the baby is born, the hormones will calm down, and everything will slowly begin to return to normal. Now you should be more concerned about the health of the child, but you still should not sit idly by.

All manipulations should be carried out only with the approval of the doctor who observes your pregnancy!

Methods for combating cellulite manifestations during pregnancy:

  • Light exercise – love walking. During the daily promenade, your body will be saturated with oxygen, microcirculation will improve. Special gymnastics and yoga will have a beneficial effect on metabolism.
  • Self-massage – stroke, rub and pat. Three to five minutes will be enough. Movement should be directed from the bottom up. Use natural cosmetics.
  • Proper diet – diets are contraindicated for pregnant women, but eating everything is also not worth it. Your goal is a balanced diet.
  • Complete your wardrobe with comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes. Forget about high heels – they will provoke swelling and strain on the veins.

Anticipation is easier than cure: prevention of cellulite during pregnancy

As soon as you find out about pregnancy, start doing prevention – this way you will minimize the risk of developing cellulite. The most important thing is nutrition. Vegetable oils and fish oil should settle in your diet – its amino acids will prevent “bad” fat from accumulating in problem areas. Boiled meat and fish, cereals, greens, lettuce, cabbage, fruits – these products do not cause “orange peel”.

Useful trace elements contained in sea salt can provide your skin with a good tone. Baths with it will charge you with positive energy and give you a feeling of comfort and freshness. Carry out the procedure twice a week, combine it with a massage – this will fix the effect.

The swimming pool has proven itself very well – water procedures will help keep the figure in good physical shape.

Contraindications

During this period, it is not recommended to carry out some procedures and use products that help get rid of cellulite:

  • essential oils – they affect not only you, but also the fetus, some of them are neurotoxic – they can provoke negative consequences for the development of the child;
  • hardware electrotreatment of cellulite and hydromassage;
  • anti-cellulite underwear;
  • anti-cellulite cosmetics – the chemical components that make up the composition are completely useless to you now;
  • hot wrap – increases blood circulation, increases body temperature – this can lead to serious problems.

At this point in your life, you should take care of the health of yourself and your baby. After childbirth, you can safely proceed to get rid of cellulite and excessive deposits by all available methods. The most effective in this case are hardware salon procedures.

Postpartum salon treatments

Modern cosmetology offers many anti-cellulite programs. LPG massage and LPG Alliance are completely safe and allowed during breastfeeding. It is better to postpone the rest of the correction methods until the end of the GW.

LPG body massage

This is a patented body shaping method. It is made by means of special devices of the French production of LPG Systems.

It is a massage with special rollers that capture tissues and knead them under the influence of cyclic vacuum and vibration – dense adipose tissue is kneaded, excess fluid is removed from the body, cellulite manifestations are reduced. LPG massage is painless – no discomfort occurs. The session lasts a little over half an hour. It is recommended to carry out 10 procedures with a break of 2-4 days. The duration is negotiated individually in consultation with a doctor.

As a result of the course:

  • weight gain is reduced
  • excess intercellular fluid leaves the body;
  • the effect of “orange peel” becomes less pronounced;
  • the condition of the skin improves, it tightens.

LPG Alliance

The procedure is recommended for those who do not want to wait and want to achieve results in the shortest possible time. LPG Alliance allows you to get results faster, and also provides incredible work with skin quality! The effect is achieved due to the fact that the LPG Alliance combines two corrective procedures: Endermology (to combat excess body fat and cellulite) and Endermolift (to tighten tissues and improve skin condition). They pass at the same time, removing fat deposits, removing the appearance of cellulite and leaving you with a beautiful tightened skin without any imperfections.

Despite the fact that this is a rather active procedure, it also does not leave negative sensations behind – it’s like a SPA session, the French apparatus treats your body so carefully and delicately. It has a powerful healing effect not only on the skin, but also on the whole body as a whole:

  • aging processes slow down;
  • cellulite manifestations are smoothed out;
  • a beautiful figure is modeled;
  • metabolic processes are accelerated;
  • every cell of your body takes on a new life.

Other anti-cellulite treatments

There are a number of procedures that are also effective in the fight against cellulite, but shown after the end of breastfeeding:

  • Pressotherapy;
  • Shock wave therapy;
  • Ozone therapy;
  • Cryolipolysis;
  • RF lipolysis;
  • Mesotherapy;
  • Injectable liposuction, etc.

All of them differ in the method of influence, however, they contribute to the activation of the same processes:

  • improved blood supply;
  • accelerate the process of lipolysis;
  • activation of lymph outflow;
  • reduction of fibrous tissue;
  • improve skin elasticity and firmness.

As a result, the skin condition improves, the external signs of cellulite decrease, toxins are eliminated, pathological fibrous connective tissue septa are destroyed. The skin becomes more toned and firm, elastic, beautiful body contours are formed.

All procedures are prescribed individually, depending on the characteristics of the body. The required number of sessions, combinations of various procedures – all this is strictly individual. The only thing in common is the effect, which invariably pleases!

Cellulite or the so-called orange peel is a structural change in the subcutaneous fat layer due to impaired microcirculation and lymphatic outflow.

Specialists prefer not to use the term “cellulite”, but call this phenomenon “lipodystrophy” or “liposclerosis”. Until the end of the 70s of the last century, no attention was paid to cellulite at all – it was considered a normal phenomenon. And only after at 1973 year on the pages of Vogue magazine appeared an article by the owner of the beauty salon Nicole Ronsard “Cellulite: these lumps, bumps and bumps that you could not get rid of before”, about this phenomenon
talked about as a serious cosmetic defect. Began to be created and special means to eliminate it.

Cellulite stages

Beauticians distinguish 4 stages of cellulite. It usually begins to form on the thighs and buttocks. But it happens on the stomach, and on the legs, and on the hands.

Stage one – pre-cellulite

It all starts with a slowdown in blood flow in the capillaries, an increase in the permeability of their walls, a violation of venous outflow and fluid circulation in the lymphatic system. There are no visible signs at this stage. The only hint of early cellulite can be considered the appearance of bruises from minor blows, a slight swelling of the tissues.

Stage two – initial

Puffiness gradually manifests itself, toxins accumulate, little oxygen enters. Changes are visible only when the skin is compressed into a fold or with muscle tension in the form of an “orange peel” effect. There is some pallor, a decrease in skin elasticity in the affected areas.

Stage Three – Micronodular

Fat cells are soldered into clusters, elastic partitions of fatty tissue become rough, similar to scars. Puffiness and impaired microcirculation progress. Outwardly, there is a clear effect of “orange peel”. The skin may have a finely knotted appearance. You can feel small and medium nodules. There may be a noticeable swelling of tissues, capillary stars, pain with deep pressure.

Stage four – macronodular

In the tissues there is stagnation of lymph, edema, venous outflow is disturbed. The lack of oxygen contributes to even more scarring and swelling. External signs at the 4th stage: the nodes are obvious, large, painful, soldered to the skin. Large nodules can be easily felt by hand, there are depressions and areas of hardening. Pronounced tissue edema, pain on palpation of the affected area, there is a local change in tissue temperature.

Fortunately, stage 4 is quite rare. The most common are the 2nd and 3rd.

Causes of cellulite

Cellulite is a purely female problem. To one degree or another, 80 percent of the female population in the world has it. In men, cellulite is almost never found.

Why does this problem appear in the fair sex? In addition to genetic predisposition, risk factors are: violations of the peripheral blood supply, various hormonal disorders or simply a change in the hormonal background (for example, puberty or pregnancy), eating disorders, a sedentary lifestyle, as well as smoking, stress and frequent weight changes. At the same time, excess weight is not an obligatory factor: slender ladies also suffer from cellulite.

However, if cellulite is too pronounced, then there may be a disease of the subcutaneous fatty tissue. Or there are very serious hormonal problems.

Pronounced cellulite not only does not decorate the figure, but also indicates that the body has failed: the lymphatic system does not cleanse the body well, there is stagnation of fluids, harmful toxins. The functioning of the immune system deteriorates. Hence – the deterioration of general well-being, weakness, swelling, heaviness in the legs. Therefore, cellulite must be treated. For this, an integrated approach is recommended, combining modern hardware techniques, massage procedures, all kinds of body wraps, and, of course, you should always remember about a healthy lifestyle.

Varieties of cellulite

Hard cellulite. Often this type of cellulite is diagnosed in girls and young women aged 15 to 25 years with a well-defined muscle tone. It appears due to a genetic predisposition on the hips, buttocks, less often on the knees.

Soft cellulite. This variety is characterized by loose skin and soft bumpy formations on extensive body surfaces. This type often appears as a result of rapid weight loss.

Edematous cellulitis. Doctors say that this type of pathology is directly related to varicose veins and occurs as a result of fluid retention inside the tissues.

Mixed cellulite. This form of the disease occurs in 90% of all cases and is a combination of several types of cellulite. So, for example, a patient may have edematous and soft cellulitis, or both a hard and soft type of pathology.

How to get rid of cellulite

Cellulite, as already noted, is a structural change in the subcutaneous fat tissues. The reason is a violation of microcirculation of blood and lymph flow. As a result, the functions of fat cells (adipocytes) are impaired and they begin to behave in an abnormal way. Firstly, they accumulate fat and grow, and, secondly, they are grouped into knots.

In order to remove cellulite, it is necessary to act on its cause. It is necessary to remove the affected adipocyte cells that form cellulite nodes and have accumulated fat. It is important to improve blood microcirculation, eliminate congestion, and normalize lymph flow.

Lymphatic drainage treatments for cellulite

Absolutely amazing results are obtained by the Italian technology Endospheres Therapy (Endosphere therapy). This is one of the best world technologies in recent years for fighting cellulite and modeling body contours.

The endosphere has become a real cure for the “orange peel”. Endosphere equally effectively removes it on all parts of the body. And prevents reappearance. The device works on the principle of deep vibration and compression: it “squeezes out” excess fluid from tissues, activates blood circulation and lymph flow, accelerates metabolic processes and eliminates congestion. This is exactly what is needed to make the skin smooth.

The operation of the device is based on the technology of compression microvibration, which is achieved using a special handpiece, consisting of 60 microspheres (rollers) made of natural silicone. Rotating, they put pressure on the compacted areas of the skin (muscles, adipose tissue). The therapy acts like “pulsating compressions”: fat deposits are under pressure and as a result are loosened to the point of destruction. Only manual massage is impossible to achieve such an effect. Due to the alternation of compression and pressure, the effect of vascular gymnastics occurs, which improves blood circulation and lymph flow. This provides lymphatic drainage to the tissues. Excess liquid begins to leave them. The effect of puffiness disappears, the person begins to feel lightness throughout the body.

The device is effective at all stages of cellulite, even when we are talking about its fibrotic manifestations, that is, when ugly bumps on the skin are not only visible, but also felt. The optimal course is at least 6 procedures. During this time, the “orange peel” effect will disappear, the skin will become even, swelling will go away. One session lasts an hour and a half. During this time, the entire body is carefully worked out along the massage lines, including the inner surface of the thighs and arms. Feelings are the most pleasant. The endosphere does not injure the skin and does not leave bruises on the body

It is important to note that since the device was developed jointly with a phlebologist, it acts on the skin very carefully and has practically no contraindications. Therefore, additional consultations before therapy are not required.

Myostimulating procedures Isogei (Izogey) and Transion (Transion) also have a lymphatic drainage effect on tissues. They are held on the exclusive VIP Line machine, also created in Italy, like the Endrosphere. In addition, these techniques perfectly tighten the tissue. In fact, they are an alternative to fitness training.

During the Izodzhey procedure, the supply of electrical impulses causes tension in individual muscles without changing their length (stretching). The VIP Line system works out the muscles in two modes. One corresponds to aerobic exercise, the second to anaerobic exercise.
Aerobic exercise is accompanied by increased oxygen consumption, acceleration of metabolic processes and lipolysis – the burning of body fat. Anaerobic exercise does not involve adipose tissue, but intensively “pump up” the muscles.
As a result, you get a relief and toned body, while the muscles will be elastic, but not like an athlete, the body will remain feminine graceful. In addition, Izodzhey increases the overall tone of the body, normalizes metabolism, improves cell oxygenation, and tightens the skin.
Myostimulation Transion (Transion) is a technique similar to Isoja, only it is aimed at twisting the muscles. This is necessary not only to cause their tension, but also to remove excess intercellular fluid.
The supply of short electrical impulses to the muscles causes their tension, which means it burns calories. This is an absolute factor in weight loss.
Muscle tension increases their tone, which means it tightens the body and improves its contours. And finally, the procedure has a powerful lymphatic drainage effect. This means that the intercellular fluid, which is saturated, contaminated with toxins, toxins and metabolic products, leaves the muscle tissue.
In its place comes a clean, new intercellular fluid. Muscles are cleansed, metabolism and cellular nutrition improves. This means not just body shaping, but real body rejuvenation!

Procedures to remove excess fat from the body

Although cellulite can also be present in thin girls, it is always more pronounced in full ladies.

Therefore, the correction of body fat is one of the most important parts of a comprehensive program to combat the “orange peel”. Ulfit, an ultrasonic technique from South Korea, will help destroy fat cells. It belongs to the type of non-surgical lipolysis. The procedure is carried out on the Ulfit apparatus, which is based on high-intensity focused ultrasound HIFU. It penetrates deep into the tissues – by 6-20 mm, heats them up and destroys the cellular membranes of the fat cell. Next, adipocytes (fat cells) break down and, as a result, triglycerides are broken down into glycerol and free fatty acids.

The destroyed elements of the fat cell enter the extracellular space and are excreted by the body with the help of the lymphatic system and immune cells. Destroyed adipocytes are absorbed and excreted from the body within 4 weeks. Then an active process of weight loss begins.

It is important to note that Ulfit therapy perfectly tightens the skin. When the tissues are heated by the apparatus, not only the rupture of fat cells occurs, but an active process of production of new collagen by skin cells – fibroblasts – begins. After the procedure, the skin is visibly tightened and smoothed. And the process will only grow over time. After leaving extra pounds, the skin will not sag ugly, but will be smooth and toned. This is very important, because there are areas, for example, above the knees, on the inner surface of the hands, which you want to open.

It should also be noted that Ulfit is a non-surgical and non-traumatic procedure. All dissolved fats are excreted from the body naturally through the lymphatic channels.

Another great technology for fighting subcutaneous fat is the Cellu Program ultrasonic liposuction procedure.
One of the main advantages of the Cellu Program is the ability to work simultaneously in two frequency bands. Low frequency waves (30 kHz) penetrate to a depth of 1-2 cm and break down subcutaneous fat. These waves eliminate “orange peel” and other symptoms. High frequency waves (500 kHz) penetrate to a depth of 7-9cm and break down deep (abdominal) fat deposits. Thus, with the Cellu Program, you can simultaneously get rid of the “orange peel” and extra pounds!

The unique feature of the ultrasound used in the Cellu Program is its directional action. Its frequency coincides with the resonant frequency of vibrations of the membranes of fat cells. Due to this, it destroys only enlarged adipocyte cells, while it does not affect other tissues in any way. The Cellu Program ultrasonic liposuction procedure is completely safe, painless, and does not require a rehabilitation period. It allows you to eliminate cellulite in any problem area – on the hips, buttocks, sides, abdomen, arms.

Along with the breakdown of fat, Cellu Program has a defibrosing effect, eliminating pathological areas of the connective tissue, improving the structure of the skin.

What to do to prevent cellulite

To prevent cellulite, nutritionists recommend eating foods rich in potassium!

First of all, potassium is found in wholemeal bread, green leafy vegetables, beans, milk, bananas and oranges. At the same time, radical diets will not help get rid of cellulite, since burning fat too quickly activates free radicals that damage connective tissue.

At the same time, it is worth remembering that, having fixed the result, it is worth reconsidering the lifestyle and nutrition: go in for sports, give up bad habits and unhealthy food, drink more water, eat vegetables and fruits daily.
You can recommend walking, running, swimming, skiing, tennis, aerobics, exercise equipment, yoga, Pilates. At home, brisk walking and running up stairs, a simple jump rope and gymnastic exercises for the muscles of the legs and buttocks will also be effective.
It is also recommended to visit a sauna, conduct a honey massage (the skin smeared with honey is patted with palms, due to honey the skin slightly sticks to the hands, which effectively improves blood circulation), as well as cupping massage, wraps made of clay, oils or honey.

For the prevention of cellulite, it is very good to periodically conduct a course of professional anti-cellulite massage. This is a very effective remedy that will really noticeably improve the condition of the skin.
