Facial Oils Frequently Ask Questions

When should I use a facial oil?

When using both a serum and a facial oil, the general rule is that you should apply the thickest texture last, so apply the serum (which is aqueous-based) first and the oil last, since oils are heavier and water repellent. This hydrophilic effect drives the serum’s hydration into the skin, then seals it all with a layer of moisture from the oil. You can apply your facial oil twice a day, in the morning and the evening. It comes as your last step in your nighttime face care routine, but during the AM, apply your facial oil before applying your sunscreen.
The purpose of the facial oil is to not only deliver nutrients to your skin, but to also seal in all the moisture from all the other face care products you have just used. After you have used your facial oil, it will allow the other products that went before it to easily sink into the skin, while creating a protective barrier of moisturization all day long.

Why use a facial oil?

Facial oils are created in a way that allows them to work hand in hand with the natural oils in our skin, keeping the skin balanced. Since they complement our skin so much, facial oils keep the skin from losing moisture due to the elements.
Even though they have many roles, facial oils provide extra security on the skin by reinforcing its outer layer. They prevent our skin from becoming dry and the deep moisturization also helps with diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Can I use a facial oil without a serum?

It is best to use both a facial oil and a serum on your face. A facial serum made with natural and active ingredients provides hydration to your skin, while a facial oil provides moisturization and locks in the hydration provided by the serum. A facial oil ensures that all the products you use on your face before it, like a serum or our Concentrated Boosting Elixirs, will stay on your face retaining all the benefits.
Since it is the last thing you apply before a sunscreen, facial oils provide an extra layer of nourishment and lock in moisture.

Can I use a facial oil with a serum?

Yes, you definitely want to always incorporate a serum with your facial oil. In your skin care routine, cleanse, apply your facial serum (your hydrator), then seal it in with a facial oil (your moisturizer). The serum will absorb into your skin, and the facial oil will seal the benefits of the serum and keep your skin both hydrated and moisturized the whole day.
You typically will want to use your facial oil after your serum as the last step in your skin care routine just before your sunscreen. If you have oily skin, choose a facial oil that is lightweight and purifies, like our Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin.

How do I choose the right oil for my face?

If you are looking for a general facial oil for your skin, always choose lightweight oils like grapeseed oil or sunflower seed oil. If you have dry skin, it is best to use facial oils that are heavier for extra moisturization like jojoba oil, avocado oil, or sweet almond oil. Ensure that it’s an oil high in oleic acid, as oils high in oleic acid provide the skin with a strong barrier.
The best facial oil for oily skin should be thin and lightweight, so that it doesn’t clog your pores. The best oils for oily skin include grapeseed oil, chia seed oil, and hemp seed oil. Also, look out for herbal ingredients like rosemary, sage, and thyme, which tame any shininess on your skin. You can read more about choosing a facial oil for your skin.

Natural oils are increasingly used for cosmetic purposes. They are produced in their pure form and added to creams, lotions, emulsions, sheet masks and patches. Oils are prescribed by dermatologists and cosmetologists for the prevention and treatment of skin diseases, recommended by hairdressers for hair health, they are found in many beauty recipes. But questions about how to properly use oils do not dry out. In this article, everything is important.

How to choose oil?

In our store you will find both solid or butter oils and liquid natural oils. Some are suitable for any type of skin, others are ideal for dry and fading, others are recommended for oily and problematic. To make the right choice, focus on cosmetic tasks and the beneficial properties of oils. You can read more about their comedogenicity – the ability to clog pores – in our blog.

Any natural oil is suitable for body care. The main rule for applying : after a shower on clean, damp skin with light massage movements. So the oil will retain the necessary moisture and nourish the epidermis with useful substances as much as possible.

Opened the oil, what should I do?

With liquids, everything is simple: first – in the palm of your hand, then – on the skin.

With hard ones, the same principle: scoop a little and rub, massaging. If the butter is frozen, you can warm it up, for example, by putting it in a warm place for a while.

All body movements should be light, pleasant, along massage lines and always on wet skin. Do not forget to pamper yourself with peeling, keratinized particles can be removed with a dry massage brush. Then take a contrast shower and finally apply your favorite natural oil.

Oil massage is recommended for clean, slightly damp skin

How to apply oil on the face?

There are several options:

  • pure instead of cream, always on wet skin;
  • in addition to daily care, enrich the right amount of cream by adding 2-3 drops of oil;
  • as part of masks, for the entire face, neck and décolleté, or for problem areas. Oils can also be mixed with each other and with other ingredients.

Do not forget to melt hard oils in a water bath beforehand. We do not recommend using the microwave, it can destroy the beneficial substances of the oil.

Liquid can be used at room temperature, but if warm oil is applied, the effect will be stronger.

I heard oils can be used to remove make-up, is that true?

Yes, removing make-up with oils is real, easy and even useful! They perfectly dissolve cosmetics, gently cleanse, removing excess fat, soften and nourish the skin without overdrying.

  • For example, moisten a cotton pad with warm water, wring it out, apply a few drops of oil and apply to the eyes to soften the mascara. After 5-10 seconds, remove it with a disk along the massage lines. With a second cotton pad, cleanse the skin of the face along the massage lines. Wash off with warm water.
  • Or wash your face first, spread a little oil on wet face, massage for a few seconds. Then, along the massage lines, remove the oil with cotton pads dipped in warm water. Wash again.

Then continue with your normal daily skin care routine.

How to use hair oil?

There is also plenty to choose from:

  • as a leave-in care after washing on clean, damp ends;
  • enriching balm or conditioner, a few drops in the right amount;
  • in the form of masks for the scalp and along the entire length of the hair.

Oils can be mixed with each other and other ingredients in face and hair masks

How to store the oil?

  • It is advisable to wipe the rim of the jar after use, this will protect the oil from oxidation.
  • The average shelf life of the oil when opened is 6 months. And there are two options: either you use it very actively, or regularly. And after 6 months, if there is something left of the oil, listen to its aroma. Not bitter? Feel free to apply.
  • Store the bottle in a dark, cool place away from direct sunlight.
  • Close the lid tightly to keep out moisture and air.

Now you know a lot about oils, if not everything. Use them regularly to take care of yourself and you will see how your skin and hair condition will soon improve. Most importantly, do not forget to apply oils to clean and slightly moisturized skin.

Beware! Cosmetic oil for the face – Health and sports – tsn.ua

In winter, our skin needs moisture, protection and vitamins. Some girls are sure that oils will help to cope with all these tasks. This is a natural product, unlike “chemical” creams with an incomprehensible composition. And this is the biggest mistake they can make by believing unfortunate advisers from the Internet.

What types of oils exist, why you can not use them every day and how to choose the “right” cosmetic oil, I tell in the material.

ABOUT THE CHOICE OF OILS

Natural oils have been used for cosmetic purposes for a long time, but often incorrectly. Why? What do girls look for when choosing oil? As a rule, on the description of its healing properties, the manufacturer’s recommendations for use (according to skin type), consistency, packaging, advice from friends. And this is where the trouble starts. Since in order to purchase the right oil, you first need to figure out whether it is base or active.

Also read

Base oils may be applied neat to the epidermis. They do no particular harm. But active ones can lead to unpleasant consequences in the form of irritation, an allergic reaction, and peeling.

And the use of an incorrectly selected active oil on a regular basis often leads to dry skin, impaired sebum production, the appearance of comedones . Therefore, before use, they must be diluted with base oils.

For understanding: base oils include – almond, argan, sea buckthorn, sesame, avocado oil. Active oils include rosehip, raspberry, blackcurrant, pomegranate, and evening primrose oils. Essential oils are also active oils.

What is the main difference between base oils and active oils?

Base oils are products that are extracted from the nuts of individual plants, seeds, and seeds of fruits or vegetables by pressing. They contain saturated fatty acids. But active oils , which are extracted directly from plants, consist of polyunsaturated fatty acids that do not tolerate exposure to sunlight and heat. In air, they oxidize very quickly, turning into a completely useless product. Therefore, in cosmetics, they are “diluted” with antioxidants, which prevent the oxidation of oils.

The use of an incorrectly selected active oil on a regular basis often leads to dry skin, impaired sebum production, and the appearance of comedones

In addition, base oils increase the permeability of the outer layer of the skin and take part in the formation of the hydrolipidic barrier. Active penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, and also have a strong rejuvenating and stimulating effect. In creams, masks or serums, they are present in a minimal amount.

Separately, I want to emphasize that all oils must be selected according to the type of skin, taking into account their comedogenicity. Otherwise, you risk getting acne or aggravate the general condition of the epidermis.

ABOUT THE CORRECT USE OF OILS

The main task of natural oils is to gradually improve the condition of the skin or maintain its optimal condition, saturating it with useful vitamins and microelements. To achieve these goals at home, you can use light carrier oils.

Some girls admit that they add two or three drops of oil to their skin care cream in an attempt to enhance its effect. If the oil is base, non-comedogenic, matched to the type of skin, and the cream consists of the most natural ingredients, you can mix.

Also read

But, as a rule, in creams, the required amount of oil is already present, indicated by the formula of a separate cosmetic product. In this case, you can apply a minimal amount of oil on a slightly damp face, and then remove the remaining product with a tissue. You can’t walk with it on your face, waiting until it is completely absorbed.

The composition of the oils is close to the lipids of our skin. With prolonged use, they dilute epidermal lipids, significantly disrupting the structure of the skin. Feels like the skin becomes more hydrated and well-groomed. But this is a short-term effect.

In addition, oils form a film on the surface of the skin that prevents it from breathing and increases the loss of transepidermal fluid. Therefore, for safety reasons, the use of base oils in home care is allowed no more than 2-3 times a week. They are not suitable for daily use and cannot replace a moisturizing, nourishing or any other cream. Also, using oils, you can do self-massage of the face or cleanse the skin of makeup.

For safety reasons, use base oils in home care only 2-3 times a week

In both cases, 2-3 drops of the product will be enough for you, which, at the end of the procedure, should be washed off with warm water and wiped with a cleansing tonic. Upon contact with water, the oil will emulsify and leave your skin along with germs and dirt particles.

Active oils should only be used after consulting a specialist. He will select the necessary funds, taking into account the individual condition of the skin and its features. To this end, he can also prepare for you a mixture of base and active oils with the right dosage.

It is highly undesirable to add active or active essential oils to cosmetics on your own. How to mix them together. Only base oils can be combined.

Natural oils can improve the condition of your skin, nourish it with useful substances, cleanse pores of sebum, dirt and microbes, eliminate fine wrinkles, enhance regenerative processes. But all this can only be achieved with the right selection and use of oils. After all, in fact, they are not so harmless as it might seem.

Therefore, if you are only going to introduce natural oils into your home care, choose the most suitable base oil for yourself with the properties you need. When buying it, carefully study the composition and packaging of the product.
