“Having a diet that is high in fiber-rich foods keeps you regular to eliminate potential toxins more quickly and regularly,” Tallmadge says, adding that if you eat a healthful diet rich in fiber, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, “you will be able to detoxify your system 100 percent of the time.”

“Your liver and your body naturally [detoxify you], and there is no evidence that shows that ‘detoxing’ detoxifies you,” agrees fellow dietitian Elisa Zied, MS, RD, CDN, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association and author of Nutrition at Your Fingertips.

Other pitfalls of the Fruit Flush diet include:

  • Nutrient deficiencies. Zied does like the fact that the Fruit Flush diet incorporates some protein, which many detox diets fail to do, but she says that the restrictions make it difficult for you to get all of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients you body needs. “This whole plan is not about what you can eat and what you should eat, but what you can’t,” Zied says. “Where is the calcium? Where is the vitamin D? Where are the omega-3 fats? Where are the B vitamins?”
  • Too few calories. According to Zied, you can count on feeling zapped of energy while you are on the diet. “If you don’t eat well, you’re not going to feel well,” Zied says.
  • Temporary weight loss. Zied says that most of the weight you lose while doing the Fruit Flush diet is water weight, along with some lean muscle tissue and some body fat. “[The Fruit Flush diet] is a temporary solution. You can’t really eat and live this way,” Zied says, adding that you should always be wary of a diet plan that promises such a steep weight loss in just three days.

If you are considering doing the Fruit Flush, keep in mind that it is nothing more than a quick fix, and you will probably regain any weight you lose as soon as you go back to your regular pattern of eating.

Throughout life your body builds up toxins from components of foods and beverages. Therefore, your body needs to be detoxified to clear it from all of these toxins. This can be done by consuming a diet of only fruits and vegetables anywhere from 24 hours up to one week.

There are tons of remedies that claim to “detoxify” your body. Some of these include several-day binges of consuming only broth, tea, cranberry juice, fruits or vegetables. There are also many other “detoxifying” supplements available in drug stores around the country. Some recommend using their proposed detoxifying therapies once per month where others recommend only once per year.

 

So is this really important? Do you really need to adhere to a strict diet to remove these harmful substances from your body? The one thing all of these proposed diets do not take into account is the natural processes of your body. Your liver and kidneys naturally remove toxins and other harmful substances in the body. Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet promotes the removal of these toxins as well.

 

HOW DO WE KNOW THIS?

Over time burnt meat, burnt foods, alcohol, and other substances that you consume create toxins in your body. These toxins are actually known as free radicals, which are oxidized particles that can damage your tissues and cell walls. This is why antioxidants are so important! Antioxidants attach to these free radicals and remove them from the body. Fruits and vegetables are chock-full of antioxidants!

 

Also, the liver and kidneys are responsible for removing waste, toxins, and bacteria from your body. They are your body’s efficient and effective detoxifying mechanism. Unless they are not operating properly, there is no need to rely on other sources to remove these  toxins, especially if you are consuming fruits and vegetable on a regular basis.

If you’re meeting your recommendations for daily fruit and vegetable intake, there’s no need to “detoxify” your body, as you’re already doing this on a regular basis. By practicing healthy eating habits as well as relying on the natural abilities of your kidneys and liver, your body can efficiently remove all these toxins.

 

Like all fad diets, there will always be fad remedies that claim to cure certain health concerns. Fruit and vegetable diet – “More like a detox than a diet. Yes, and the detox turned out to be so…”

Hello everyone!

I have never had problems with being overweight. At the age of 18-19, I weighed 56 kg, and then my weight stopped at around 58 kg. And even after two pregnancies, I weighed these 58 kg. By the summer, I always start to get in shape. I can’t say that I gain a lot during the winter, but due to the fact that in winter I and we all probably move less , the quality of the skin on my thighs and buttocks is deteriorating. And then massage sessions, fitness, diets begin … This time I decided to try fruit and vegetable diet.

TYPES OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLE DIET.

There are two types of fruit and vegetable diet – a mono-diet and a mixed one. A mixed fruit and vegetable diet is more similar to PP, as other healthy foods are added to fruits and vegetables – meat, nuts. Well, that is, as for me, this is no longer a fruit and vegetable diet, if you add tuna to a salad of arugula, tomatoes and peppers. This is just a good PP salad. So only hardcore – I had mono-diet . By the way, it is on the mono-diet that they promise a good plumb line.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLE DIET PRINCIPLES.

To begin with, I will tell you what fruits and vegetables I generally excluded from my diet during the fruit and vegetable diet. Bananas, potatoes and grapes. These fruits and vegetables are high in sugar and high in calories. By the way, the rejection of these products was not painful for me at all – I don’t really like grapes and bananas in ordinary life either. I eat potatoes, but not very often. By the way, plums are also not very recommended for a fruit and vegetable diet, but I love them very much, so I could not deny myself the pleasure of eating them.

I alternated fruit and vegetable days – vegetable day, fruit day. In general, you can combine them, but they say that this will be less effective. Fruits and vegetables can be eaten raw or stewed. Naturally, cook without salt, spices, sauces. During my fruit and vegetable diet, I didn’t cook anything at all, didn’t stew – everything was raw. It is possible, probably, to write a review in the raw food diet branch? 😅😏 The most popular product during my fruit and vegetable diet was an apple. I bought it in kilograms and ate it – yellow, green, red-seasonal … Probably, I ate apples a year ahead and will not look in their direction soon …

I also bought ready-made smoothies and juices. By the way, Detox juices (local manufacturer Tikhvinsky Uyezd) are my favorite. These juices have very unusual and interesting combinations – pumpkin + orange, orange + pumpkin + sea buckthorn. Well, you understand. And yes, the barbecue in the photo is not mine😅🙈

The only vegetables I ate were tomatoes and cucumbers. I bought red pepper once. Yes, yes, I sat on cucumbers and tomatoes all day long 🤦‍♀️ I liked fruit days. Let’s call them even fruit and berry days. Mostly I ate apples, but I also spoiled myself with all sorts of sweets – blueberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries …

I observed the drinking regimen – every day at least two liters of water. I don’t drink that much water when I’m on a diet. No tea or coffee. Here are just natural juices and smoothies. I ate fractionally – 5-6 times a day, in small portions. There was no particular feeling of hunger.

RESULT.

If we talk about the plumb line, then there was none. At all. As I was at the beginning of the diet weighing 58 kg, I weighed the same on the 5th day of the diet. Couldn’t take it anymore. Because from the fourth day I was constantly drawn to the toilet. It’s great that the body is being cleansed, but it’s like you also need to go to work. And when you constantly want to sit on the potty, it doesn’t work very well. Well, you understand me.
Yes, I didn’t starve and suffered especially on vegetable days. In the days of fruits and berries, I directly enjoyed life. I ate so many delicious things 😋 If someone now hints to me that there is no plumb line, because I gorged myself on fruits, I’ll immediately say that this is not so. Ate within reason. I don’t have a habit of overeating at all.

By the fourth day of the diet, some kind of weakness appeared … Either from a lack of protein, or from excessive cleansing of the body 🚽

CONCLUSIONS.

For myself, I concluded that a fruit and vegetable diet is definitely not for me. This is rather a great option for a fasting day, but not a complete diet. Who wants a quick plumb line and loves kefir – here’s a kefir diet for you. Want to eat more varied – protein-vegetable diet. But the result will not come so quickly. And fruits and vegetables are just a one-time detox.
