7 Natural Remedies for IBS

When you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), whether it’s marked by frequent bouts of diarrhea (IBS-D), constipation (IBS-C), or mixed symptoms (IBS-M), you might be willing to try anything to relieve your symptoms.

Prescription medication may come with potential side effects and aren’t always as effective as advertised. If you’re concerned about going that route for relief, natural remedies may be helpful. In fact, they may be all you need to manage your IBS symptoms long-term.

“Some natural and over-the-counter remedies can completely put some IBS patients in remission,” says Brenda Powell, MD, medical director at Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Health Department in Port Angeles, Washington.

Keep in mind, you should always talk to your doctor about any treatment to make sure it is safe for you. And if you’re ready, ask your provider, about these eight natural ways to find relief from IBS pain:

1. A Specialized Diet Might Be Enough

New guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) suggest trying a low-FODMAP diet, which cuts out foods that are difficult for the body to absorb. While the diet may seem daunting because it eliminates so many foods you may be used to, it revolves around basic healthy eating habits.

2. Psyllium Powder for Added Fiber

If your IBS symptoms persist even after you change your dietary patterns, consider taking psyllium powder, which is soluble fiber and the active ingredient in the fiber supplement Metamucil. The ACG strongly recommends soluble fiber to treat IBS in their latest guidelines.

“There is a moderate quality of evidence for psyllium for overall symptoms relief,” says Kara Gross Margolis, MD, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York City.

According to a review published in March 2021 in Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, psyllium supplementation is recommended to help treat IBS-C and IBS-D. Stir a teaspoon of psyllium powder into your morning oatmeal or into a glass of water, and down the hatch.

“If you’re constipated, psyllium powder helps move your bowels. If you have diarrhea, psyllium powder gives you something to form a bowel movement around,” Dr. Powell says.

3. L-Glutamine to Aid in the Function of Intestinal Tissue

IBS is often associated with chronic gastritis, which may cause the lining of your small intestine to break down, creating tiny openings that allow digestive by-products, called lipopolysaccharides, to slip through and enter your body. These uninvited guests can ignite the immune system, causing a generalized inflammatory reaction and symptoms such as achiness and fatigue. If your IBS makes you feel tired or achy, L-glutamine may be another over-the-counter supplement to try. It’s an amino acid, sold as a powder and found in foods like chicken, fish, lentils, and spinach. In an eight-week study published online in May 2019 in the journal Gut, of 106 adults with IBS-D, those who took oral glutamine supplements safely reduced all major IBS-related symptoms.

“L-glutamine can help the lining of your gut heal to correct the permeability issue,” Powell says. “I recommend taking 2 teaspoons once a day, when experiencing diarrhea.”

4. Acupuncture to Treat Chronic Pain

If constipation is your main IBS symptom, you may want to try the ancient Chinese medicine technique known as acupuncture to find some relief.

“Acupuncture is really good for constipation and getting the bowels moving again,” Powell says. Acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into the skin at specific points to balance the body’s energy or life force, also called qi (pronounced “chee”). It’s based on the principle that qi flows through various pathways in the body called meridians.

“Inserting needles into acupuncture points along meridians is thought to bring energy flow back into proper balance,” says Anne Mok, an acupuncturist and the coowner of Cornerstone Healing in Brooklyn, New York. With IBS-C, acupuncture can help calm down the autonomic nervous system, which helps regulate your GI tract.

Acupuncture may even be helpful if you have IBS-D. A study published in December 2020 in Frontiers in Neuroscience found that acupuncture improved functional connections in the brain that eased symptoms of IBS-D and improved quality of life for patients.

5. Mindfulness for Stress Relief

Reducing stress with breathing exercises and mindfulness may also help calm down the gut nerves that are misfiring. The ACG’s guidelines recommend various mindfulness techniques that have the potential to improve IBS symptoms. A study published in September 2020 in the journal Neurogastroenterology and Motility found that after an eight-week mindfulness-based stress reduction practice, more than 70 percent of the participants in the study reported improved IBS symptoms. The reduction in severity also continued for three months after the eight weeks of the study.

“I recommend 5-5-5 to my patients,” Powell says. That is, “smell the roses” by inhaling through your nose for a count of five. Hold that breath for five counts, then exhale through your mouth for a count of five or longer, as if you are blowing out candles on your birthday cake. “This breathing technique is very calming to the autonomic nervous system, which can help with IBS,” she adds. Best of all, it’s portable. “You can do it anywhere, such as when you’re waiting in your car at a stoplight.”

6. Yoga Brings IBS Symptom Relief

While mindfulness may reduce symptoms, physical activity is an integral part of the mind-body connection. One of the most effective ways to pair mindfulness and exercise is through the ancient practice of yoga. And, studies suggest it can be helpful in managing IBS, but the quality of the data is limited.

A review published in December 2019 in the journal Digestive Diseases and Sciences analyzed several studies that looked at the benefits of various yoga practices focused on the mind-body-breath connection. It found that a majority of participants saw improvements in their IBS symptoms, their digestion, and their physical health, as well as improvements in mood, anxiety, and their outlook on life. The results suggest that practicing yoga can lead to improvements in physical health and a more positive outlook on life, which helps decrease IBS symptoms.

7. Try Peppermint Oil to Help With Gas and Bloating

Peppermint oil has been used as an herbal remedy for a number of ailments for centuries. Now the ACG acknowledges that this herb soothes the gut and recommends it to provide relief for all IBS symptoms. A recent meta-analysis published in January 2019 in BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies looked at 12 different trials from three different continents, and found that regularly taking a peppermint oil capsule with meals helped reduce IBS symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, and constipation.

It’s worth noting that peppermint oil could make heartburn worse so be careful how much you take. Talk to your doctor if you are thinking about trying peppermint oil, since IBS is a complicated condition and she’ll need a complete picture of the remedies you’re using to determine an overall treatment plan.

5 Exercises for IBS Relief

Exercise works wonders for the brain and body. That’s really important to remember when dealing with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a disorder of brain-gut interaction.

“Exercise is part of the behavioral health and holistic care necessary to improve the brain-gut axis and outcomes in IBS,” says Brennan Spiegel, MD, a gastroenterologist and a professor of medicine and public health and the director of health services research at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.

A review published in September 2018 in Neurogastroenterology and Motility looked at various exercises spanning a wide range of intensity from tai chi to mountaineering. It found that each of the exercises helped reduce IBS symptoms and improved mood.

But is one exercise better than another when it comes to IBS pain relief?

“The best exercise is the one that you will do and stick with,” says Megan Riehl, PsyD, a gastrointestinal psychologist at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Here are five expert recommended activities proven to improve IBS symptoms.

One caveat: Always talk to your doctor before beginning a new exercise routine, especially if abdominal pain, IBS symptoms, or gastrointestinal (GI) distress have kept you from working out for an extended period.

1. Yoga Improves Digestion and Mood

While there are many types of yoga, some more aerobic than others, they all follow the basic principles of connecting the brain, body, and breath through a series of stationary poses and active movements.

A review published in December 2019 in Digestive Diseases and Sciences found that study participants who started a yoga practice improved their digestion, reduced their IBS symptoms, and felt stronger. They also reported less depression and anxiety.

“We believe yoga is a very effective treatment for IBS because the focus on the mind-body connection improves the messages traveling from the brain to the gut and the gut to the brain,” says Brian E. Lacy, MD, PhD, a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

If you’re just starting out, try classes for beginners, which are sometimes labeled “gentle,” or ones that focus on stress relief, until you’re ready for a more intense class.

2. Tai Chi Helps Connect the Body to the Breath

Like yoga, tai chi also involves connecting the brain, body, and breath through a series of slow, graceful movements coupled with deep breathing into the diaphragm. The review published in Neurogastroenterology and Motility looked at a previous study that tracked two groups of IBS patients for eight weeks — both groups took medication, but one group did tai chi while the other didn’t. The group that did tai chi for eight weeks had fewer and less severe symptoms than the control group.

Tai chi is effective, because it helps reduce stress.

“Physical and emotional stress doesn’t help any of us,” says Dr. Riehl. “It raises our cortisol levels and that can impact our digestive system. People with IBS have trouble down-regulating digestive stress. So, checking in with your breath, slowing your breathing down and bringing the breath into the diaphragm kick-starts the parasympathetic system, calms everything down, and gives a nice massage to the digestive organs that can reduce spasms and urgency.”

3. Walking Eases Symptoms

Getting in your daily steps with a walk or a light jog burns calories, helps regulate blood sugar levels, and works several large muscle groups. A study published in May 2020 in PLoS One found that the more steps people with IBS took per day, the less severe their symptoms were. And in a study published in February 2018 in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, participants who did six weeks of exercise on a treadmill for just 30 minutes three times a week saw significant improvement in their IBS symptoms and their mood.

“Taking a walk aids digestion,” says Dr. Lacy. “It can help relieve constipation and it can help move gasses to alleviate abdominal pain. Plus, being outside in the fresh air and moving is good for your mental health. And, that’s good for your GI health.”

4. Cycling Lets You Vary Intensity

Hopping on a bike, whether stationary or on the road, is a great workout for the legs and the heart. Lacy champions it for the amount of control it gives to the rider since you can easily ramp up your pedaling for more intensity or slow it down and cruise for a leisurely ride. “It’s a great aerobic activity that’s safe, enjoyable, and low-impact,” he says.

A study published in January 2015 in the World Journal of Gastroenterology found that IBS patients who maintained a cycling, or other exercise, habit had improved symptoms and overall health five years after they started exercising.

5. Swimming Is a Full Body Workout That Boosts Your Mood

Swimming is a great aerobic, low-impact exercise that gets your arms, legs, and core working. “Water aerobics can be very gentle but challenging,” says Riehl. “Plus, swimming makes you focus on your breath. It’s great for reducing cortisol stress levels, boosting your endorphins, and feeling great.”

Research shows that getting in the pool works wonders for our mental health. A study published in 2019 in the Brazilian journal Clinics showed that aquatic exercises reduced anxiety and stress in elderly patients. That’s important since anxiety and stress often trigger IBS symptoms.

Riehl notes that swimming rarely, if ever, leads to cramping or urgent diarrhea for people with IBS.

Moderation Matters When It Comes to Exercise

Stories of cyclists and marathon runners losing control of their bladder or defecating on themselves are not uncommon. According to Dr. Spiegel, when you exercise your body endures a physical stress that does not prioritize the gut, which decreases blood flow to the abdomen.

“Pushing it to an extreme can lead to urgent diarrhea from something called localized ischemia in the colon,” says Lacy. “It underscores the need to exercise in moderation rather than push yourself to an extreme level.”

Just 30 minutes on a treadmill three times a week was enough to reduce IBS symptoms in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies study.

“Exercising in moderation is great for your physical and emotional health, and it helps you sleep better, which is great for digestion,” says Lacy.

Irritable bowel syndrome – Diagnosis and treatment

Diagnosis

There’s no test to definitively diagnose IBS. Your doctor is likely to start with a complete medical history, physical exam and tests to rule out other conditions, such as celiac disease.

After other conditions have been ruled out, your doctor is likely to use one of these sets of diagnostic criteria for IBS:

  • Rome criteria. These criteria include abdominal pain and discomfort lasting on average at least one day a week in the last three months, associated with at least two of these factors: Pain and discomfort are related to defecation, the frequency of defecation is altered, or stool consistency is altered.
  • Type of IBS. For the purpose of treatment, IBS can be divided into three types, based on your symptoms: constipation-predominant, diarrhea-predominant or mixed.

Your doctor will also likely assess whether you have other signs or symptoms that might suggest another, more serious, condition. These signs and symptoms include:

  • Onset of signs and symptoms after age 50
  • Weight loss
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Fever
  • Nausea or recurrent vomiting
  • Abdominal pain, especially if it’s not related to a bowel movement, or occurs at night
  • Diarrhea that is persistent or awakens you from sleep
  • Anemia related to low iron

If you have these signs or symptoms, or if an initial treatment for IBS doesn’t work, you’ll likely need additional tests.

Additional tests

Your doctor may recommend several tests, including stool studies to check for infection or problems with your intestine’s ability to take in the nutrients from food (malabsorption). You may also have a number of other tests to rule out other causes for your symptoms.

Diagnostic procedures can include:

  • Colonoscopy. Your doctor uses a small, flexible tube to examine the entire length of the colon.
  • X-ray or CT scan. These tests produce images of your abdomen and pelvis that might allow your doctor to rule out other causes of your symptoms, especially if you have abdominal pain. Your doctor might fill your large intestine with a liquid (barium) to make any problems more visible on X-ray. This barium test is sometimes called a lower GI series.
  • Upper endoscopy. A long, flexible tube is inserted down your throat and into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). A camera on the end of the tube allows the doctor to inspect your upper digestive tract and obtain a tissue sample (biopsy) from your small intestine and fluid to look for overgrowth of bacteria. Your doctor might recommend endoscopy if celiac disease is suspected.

Laboratory tests can include:

  • Lactose intolerance tests. Lactase is an enzyme you need to digest the sugar found in dairy products. If you don’t produce lactose, you may have problems similar to those caused by IBS, including abdominal pain, gas and diarrhea. Your doctor may order a breath test or ask you to remove milk and milk products from your diet for several weeks.
  • Breath test for bacterial overgrowth. A breath test also can determine if you have bacterial overgrowth in your small intestine. Bacterial overgrowth is more common among people who have had bowel surgery or who have diabetes or some other disease that slows down digestion.
  • Stool tests. Your stool might be examined for bacteria or parasites, or a digestive liquid produced in your liver (bile acid), if you have chronic diarrhea.

Treatment

Treatment of IBS focuses on relieving symptoms so that you can live as normally as possible.

Mild signs and symptoms can often be controlled by managing stress and by making changes in your diet and lifestyle. Try to:

  • Avoid foods that trigger your symptoms
  • Eat high-fiber foods
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Exercise regularly
  • Get enough sleep

Your doctor might suggest that you eliminate from your diet:

  • High-gas foods. If you experience bloating or gas, you might avoid items such as carbonated and alcoholic beverages and certain foods that may lead to increased gas.
  • Gluten. Research shows that some people with IBS report improvement in diarrhea symptoms if they stop eating gluten (wheat, barley and rye) even if they don’t have celiac disease.
  • FODMAPs. Some people are sensitive to certain carbohydrates such as fructose, fructans, lactose and others, known as FODMAPs — fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. FODMAPs are found in certain grains, vegetables, fruits and dairy products.

A dietitian can help you with these diet changes.

If your problems are moderate or severe, your doctor might suggest counseling — especially if you have depression or if stress tends to worsen your symptoms.

In addition, based on your symptoms your doctor might suggest medications such as:

  • Fiber supplements. Taking a supplement such as psyllium (Metamucil) with fluids may help control constipation.
  • Laxatives. If fiber doesn’t help constipation, your doctor may recommend over-the-counter laxatives, such as magnesium hydroxide oral (Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia) or polyethylene glycol (Miralax).
  • Anti-diarrheal medications. Over-the-counter medications, such as loperamide (Imodium A-D), can help control diarrhea. Your doctor might also prescribe a bile acid binder, such as cholestyramine (Prevalite), colestipol (Colestid) or colesevelam (Welchol). Bile acid binders can cause bloating.
  • Anticholinergic medications. Medications such as dicyclomine (Bentyl) can help relieve painful bowel spasms. They are sometimes prescribed for people who have bouts of diarrhea. These medications are generally safe but can cause constipation, dry mouth and blurred vision.
  • Tricyclic antidepressants. This type of medication can help relieve depression as well as inhibit the activity of neurons that control the intestines to help reduce pain. If you have diarrhea and abdominal pain without depression, your doctor may suggest a lower than normal dose of imipramine (Tofranil), desipramine (Norpramin) or nortriptyline (Pamelor). Side effects — which might be reduced if you take the medication at bedtime — can include drowsiness, blurred vision, dizziness and dry mouth.
  • SSRI antidepressants. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants, such as fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem) or paroxetine (Paxil), may help if you are depressed and have pain and constipation.
  • Pain medications. Pregabalin (Lyrica) or gabapentin (Neurontin) might ease severe pain or bloating.

Medications specifically for IBS

Medications approved for certain people with IBS include:

  • Alosetron (Lotronex). Alosetron is designed to relax the colon and slow the movement of waste through the lower bowel. Alosetron can be prescribed only by doctors enrolled in a special program, is intended for severe cases of diarrhea-predominant IBS in women who haven’t responded to other treatments, and isn’t approved for use by men. It has been linked to rare but important side effects, so it should only be considered when other treatments aren’t successful.
  • Eluxadoline (Viberzi). Eluxadoline can ease diarrhea by reducing muscle contractions and fluid secretion in the intestine, and increasing muscle tone in the rectum. Side effects can include nausea, abdominal pain and mild constipation. Eluxadoline has also been associated with pancreatitis, which can be serious and more common in certain individuals.
  • Rifaximin (Xifaxan). This antibiotic can decrease bacterial overgrowth and diarrhea.
  • Lubiprostone (Amitiza). Lubiprostone can increase fluid secretion in your small intestine to help with the passage of stool. It’s approved for women who have IBS with constipation, and is generally prescribed only for women with severe symptoms that haven’t responded to other treatments.
  • Linaclotide (Linzess). Linaclotide also can increase fluid secretion in your small intestine to help you pass stool. Linaclotide can cause diarrhea, but taking the medication 30 to 60 minutes before eating might help.

Potential future treatments

Researchers are investigating new treatments for IBS, such as fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Considered investigational at this time, FMT restores healthy intestinal bacteria by placing another person’s processed stool into the colon of a person affected by IBS. Clinical trials to study fecal transplants are currently underway.

Lifestyle and home remedies

Simple changes in your diet and lifestyle often provide relief from IBS. Your body will need time to respond to these changes. Try to:

  • Experiment with fiber. Fiber helps reduce constipation but also can worsen gas and cramping. Try slowly increasing the amount of fiber in your diet over a period of weeks with foods such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables and beans. A fiber supplement might cause less gas and bloating than fiber-rich foods.
  • Avoid problem foods. Eliminate foods that trigger your symptoms.
  • Eat at regular times. Don’t skip meals, and try to eat at about the same time each day to help regulate bowel function. If you have diarrhea, you may find that eating small, frequent meals makes you feel better. But if you’re constipated, eating larger amounts of high-fiber foods may help move food through your intestines.
  • Exercise regularly. Exercise helps relieve depression and stress, stimulates normal contractions of your intestines, and can help you feel better about yourself. Ask your doctor about an exercise program.

Alternative medicine

The role of alternative therapies in relieving IBS symptoms is unclear. Ask your doctor before starting any of these treatments. Alternative therapies include:

  • Hypnosis. A trained professional teaches you how to enter a relaxed state and then guides you in relaxing your abdominal muscles. Hypnosis may reduce abdominal pain and bloating. Several studies support the long-term effectiveness of hypnosis for IBS.
  • Peppermint. Studies show that, in people who have IBS with diarrhea, a specially coated tablet that slowly releases peppermint oil in the small intestine (enteric-coated peppermint oil) eases bloating, urgency, abdominal pain and pain while passing stool.
  • Probiotics. Probiotics are “good” bacteria that normally live in your intestines and are found in certain foods, such as yogurt, and in dietary supplements. Recent studies suggest that certain probiotics may relieve IBS symptoms, such as abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea.
  • Stress reduction. Yoga or meditation can help relieve stress. You can take classes or practice at home using books or videos.

Preparing for your appointment

You may be referred to a doctor who specializes in the digestive system (gastroenterologist).

What you can do

  • Be aware of any pre-appointment restrictions, such as restricting your diet before your appointment.
  • Write down your symptoms, including any that may seem unrelated to the reason why you scheduled the appointment.
  • Write down any triggers to your symptoms, such as specific foods.
  • Make a list of all your medications, vitamins and supplements.
  • Write down your key medical information, including other conditions.
  • Write down key personal information, including any recent changes or stressors in your life.
  • Write down questions to ask your doctor.
  • Ask a relative or friend to accompany you, to help you remember what the doctor says.

Questions to ask your doctor

  • What’s the most likely cause of my symptoms?
  • What tests do I need? Is there any special preparation for them?
  • What treatment approach do you recommend? Are there any side effects associated with these treatments?
  • Should I change my diet?
  • Are there other lifestyle changes that you recommend?
  • Do you recommend that I talk with a counselor?
  • I have other health problems. How can I best manage these conditions together?
  • If I have IBS, how long will it take for me to see improvement from the therapy you have prescribed?

In addition to the questions that you’ve prepared to ask your doctor, don’t hesitate to ask questions during your appointment anytime you don’t understand something.

What to expect from your doctor

Your doctor is likely to ask you a number of questions. Being ready to answer them may leave time to go over points you want to spend more time on. You may be asked:

  • What are your symptoms, and when did they begin?
  • How severe are your symptoms? Are they continuous or occasional?
  • Does anything seem to trigger your symptoms, such as foods, stress or — in women — your menstrual period?
  • Have you lost weight without trying?
  • Have you had fever, vomiting or blood in your stools?
  • Have you recently experienced significant stress, emotional difficulty or loss?
  • What is your typical daily diet?
  • Have you ever been diagnosed with a food allergy or with lactose intolerance?
  • Do you have any family history of bowel disorders or colon cancer?
  • How much would you say your symptoms are affecting your quality of life, including your personal relationships and your ability to function at school or work?

What you can do in the meantime

While you wait for your appointment:

  • Ask family members if any relatives have been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease or colon cancer.
  • Start noting how often your symptoms occur and any factors that seem to trigger them.

How to Heal IBS Naturally

If you haven’t realized by now, I’m pretty passionate about gut health. After dealing with my own gut issues for years, I’ve done a lot of work to heal them naturally and I’m at a good place today and feel amazing almost everyday!

Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS is an intestinal disorder that can cause abdominal cramps, irregular bowel movements, gas and bloating in your small intestine and large intestine. People with IBS know how debilitating and embarrassing it can be. But, sadly, the exact cause isn’t really known.

Your nervous system is on high alert because the nerves in your gut and digestive tract are more sensitive, and some things like gas can trigger extreme pain in those with IBS, while someone without IBS wouldn’t be bothered by it.

My last few years in college, plus a few after college, I was dealing with a lot of IBS symptoms, while I was never formally diagnosed, it’s was obvious that was what I was dealing with.

I’d tried probiotics, which helped a bit, but wasn’t living the healthiest lifestyle. Going out a lot, drinking multiple nights a week, eating foods that I knew would upset my stomach and not getting enough rest or exercise. When I look back at that phase of my life, I don’t know how I did it. I was literally running on fumes and pushing my body past its limits on a regular basis.

Thankfully, I finally had a wake up call that really made me think twice about how I was living, so I started making some major lifestyle and diet changes.

Today, I never get those awful IBS symptoms anymore. It didn’t go away overnight, but I’m proud that I was able to heal my gut, which in turn reversed my IBS for good!

At the end of the day, our gut health is one of the most important things in keeping us healthy. The majority of our immune system lives in our gut, and the gut is also known as the second brain, so if you’re not taking care of it, it’s time you start prioritizing it! The best thing about healing my gut was that I had all these positive side effects. All of my other weird symptoms—brain fog, chronic fatigue, breakouts, poor sleep, anxiety and more literally faded away.

So, let’s talk about how to heal IBS and boost your gut health with natural remedies!

How to Heal IBS Naturally

While I’m not against Western medicine, I have learned first hand that a pill will not cure you of IBS for good. It may mask your symptoms and make you feel better, but if you don’t fix the real issue at hand—poor gut health—those symptoms will always come back.

Before we jump in, this is not medical advice and if you are having extreme symptoms, please see a doctor!

Probiotics

Probiotics are so buzzy these days, but they can do wonders for improving your gut health. They add good bacteria to your gut flora and help create balance. If you have bad bacterial overgrowth, it can throw your system out of whack and a probiotic can help you find balance again.

If you’re having a lot of symptoms, I highly recommend you start with a round of this probiotic. It has 60 billion CFU (colony forming units) and packs a punch. If your gut is in distress, this will do wonders!

After a round of this, I recommend this one that’s not quite as potent, but will keep things balanced moving forward. It has more CFUs than your average drugstore probiotic.

Prebiotics

While probiotics will definitely help ease your discomfort, they’re not a magic pill. The thing that really changed the game for me was a prebiotic. Prebiotic are a fiber supplement that feeds the good bacteria and probiotics and allow them to be more productive. A prebiotic will help establish better gut flora that lasts!

I put a scoop of this prebiotic powder in my smoothie every morning. It has completely changed my gut health in the best way possible. Do note that if you don’t currently eat much fiber, start with a little and work your way up!

Synbiotics

I’ve also heard really great things about synbiotics, which are basically a prebiotic and probiotic in one! I haven’t tried the brand Seed myself, but I’m considering it! People seem to love it.

Eat More Fiber

This past year, I’ve adopted a mostly plant-based diet. No rules or restrictions, I just aim to eat at least 2 plant-based meals a day. The biggest reason for it? When I eat a high fiber diet, I feel SO much better. Making one of my meals a big green smoothie, and another one a big salad with greens, chickpeas, seeds, veggies and herbs not only keeps me full, but seriously makes me feel freaking amazing!

Think about your own diet and how much fiber you’re getting in on an average day, could you use more? Most Americans don’t get enough, so make sure to add some fiber! For me, the easiest way to do this is a smoothie every morning—load it up with flax, spinach, cauliflower and chia seeds—this gut-healing smoothie one is my favorite.

Stay Hydrated

Extra fiber is amazing for your gut, but if you’re not drinking enough water, it’s not going to feel good. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. My hack for getting in enough water is to drink one huge 32oz. bottle first thing in the morning. If I get that in, I’m more thirsty throughout the day and it forces me to remember to drink more!

Move your Body

If you’re feeling bloated and crampy, the last thing you want to do is go workout, but do it anyway. Nothing crazy, just a walk will do! Daily movement always boosts my energy and digestion, and good digestion is key to healing your IBS.

Get Enough Sleep

Our bodies heal while we rest, so if you’re not getting adequate sleep on a regular basis, you’re never going to feel your best. Aim to go to bed and wake up at generally the same time every night. Don’t look at your phone around bedtime, dim the lights and make sure your room is dark and cool, all these things help. And, if you’re still struggling, a magnesium supplement, dropper full of CBD oil and 1mg of melatonin always do the trick for me!

Cut out Inflammatory Foods

For me, a big one was dairy and red meat. I also admit that when I was at the peak of my worst IBS symptoms, it was in college and I now realize that drinking (a lot of) alcohol was only making things worse. I also quit caffeine and that made a big difference in my energy levels, focus and gut health.

Everyone will be different in what they can tolerate, but dairy, red meat and gluten are always good places to start. You can also look into food allergies or sensitivities as those may trigger abdominal pain.

Use Essential Oils

In clinical trials, peppermint oil has been shown to help reduce symptoms and ease discomfort. This won’t cure you of IBS, but may help with pain and cramping and ease your symptoms while you work to fix the problem at the root.

If you’ve been struggling with IBS, I hope that these tips help you on your healing journey. They’ve made a huge difference in how I feel today. I want to remind you that this is not a quick fix, rather a lifestyle change. One that will leave you feeling better, healthier, more energetic and empowered to take back your health! If you have any questions, leave them below!

Natural IBS Treatment | Elk River, MN Chiropractor | Healing Choices

The Nutritional Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases reports that Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects roughly 10-15% of the population. However, only about half of the people who have it are actually diagnosed with this condition characterized by constipation, diarrhea, gas, and abdominal pain.

Unfortunately, those that are diagnosed are typically given some sort of medication that only treats the symptoms. That’s where functional medicine is different as its goal is to identify the underlying issue. This allows for treatment at the source, helping the body to begin naturally healing itself. Healing Choices – Natural Healthcare Clinic, here in Elk River, MN, has had a lot of success in helping patients with IBS.

A functional medicine approach is particularly effect for this common problem, as research from University of Wisconsin has defined IBS as “a multi-factorial disorder that can have emotional, physical and nutritional influences. ” In other words, your body is highly interconnected and sometimes you have to address many factors to effectively deal with illness or disease as a whole.

Based on numerous studies in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, some non-medication based treatments for IBS include engaging in regular exercise, eliminating foods that cause digestive distress, and adding probiotics to the diet.

The key is to figure out what works for you, and that’s what Healing Choices – Natural Healthcare Clinic is here to do. Give our Elk River, MN office a call today to see how we can help. Our number is (763) 241-5436.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment | Johns Hopkins Medicine

The goal of IBS treatment is to provide relief from your symptoms. Your exact course of treatment will depend on the type and severity of your symptoms.

The success of the treatment often depends on having a good understanding of what IBS is and how it is treated. Fortunately, there are dietary, pharmacologic and behavioral approaches that can help, and they should be individualized to you. So ask your doctor lots of questions and help your doctor get to know what is important to you. Patients with better relationships with their medical provider often report that they have better symptom control.

Many patients worry about their symptoms and what will happen to them in the future. IBS is troubling and uncomfortable, but the condition itself does not increase your risk of any future health difficulties.

Treatment of IBS and associated symptoms may include:

  • Dietary changes
  • Medications
  • Psychotherapy
  • Alternative therapies

Dietary Changes

Bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea may respond to dietary modification. For example, caffeine or fatty foods stimulate colonic contractions, so someone with IBS and diarrhea might have improvement by reducing their daily intake of caffeinated beverages and rich foods.

Those who suffer with bloating and abdominal discomfort might benefit from eating less food containing carbohydrates that are not digested well in the small intestine. Eating foods that contain large quantities of lactose, fructose and sorbitol, for example, may increase intestinal gas production, triggering more bloating, diarrhea and/or abdominal discomfort in those with IBS.

Many healthy foods, including some fruits and vegetables, contain these types of fermentable carbohydrates, in addition to fiber, another source of intestinal gas production. Finding the right balance of healthy foods can be a challenge if you have IBS. Ask your doctor if you might benefit from a trial of the low FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols) diet that has been shown in research studies to help reduce gassiness, abdominal pain and bloating in patients with IBS.

Working with a nutritionist is always recommended to make sure you are still getting all the nutrients you need, no matter which diet you are on.

Medications

There are several medications that can be used to treat IBS.

  • Smooth muscle relaxants: These are best for relieving or preventing intestinal cramping.
  • Antidiarrheal medications: Medications for those with diarrhea slow intestinal transit and reduce the frequency of bowel movements while improving the consistency of the stool.
  • Laxatives: For patients who have constipation as the predominant symptom.
  • Antibiotics: To attempt to alter the composition of the gut flora that might be responsible for the fermentation of poorly digested carbohydrates.
  • Low-dose antidepressants: If pain and diarrhea are your predominant symptoms, you may find relief with these medications that work on the gut’s nervous system to make it less reactive to foods you eat or to emotional stress.

Psychotherapy

There is a strong connection between the nervous system and colonic function. Stress plays an important role in the frequency and severity of symptoms in IBS patients. A history of stressful life events or a current stressful situation can often precede IBS. Some patients who lost loved ones report the onset of symptoms shortly after the loss. Others with a history of depression notice that when the depression returns their symptoms worsen. Sometimes anxiety or depression occur with the onset of IBS symptoms.

If emotional stress is a trigger for your symptoms, there are several psychological interventions that might be used. The most studied is cognitive behavioral therapy, which has been shown to be effective for IBS. This type of therapy is provided by a trained mental health professional. Hypnotherapy has also been shown to help manage IBS symptoms.

Alternative Therapies

  • Certain probiotics have been shown to be helpful in managing some symptoms of IBS.
  • Acupuncture may be helpful in managing anxiety, fibromyalgia, migraines and insomnia associated with IBS. Acupuncture also can have a direct gastrointestinal effect by altering GI motility and pain perception.
  • Therapeutic massage can help reduce anxiety and relieve stress.

Often, an integrated approach that combines these therapies works best. At the Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Center, many of these treatments are readily available from experienced and caring professionals. As one of the nation’s few integrative medicine clinics that is focused on gastrointestinal disorders, our team includes gastroenterologists, nutritionists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and psychotherapists.

Understanding Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C)

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome With Constipation (IBS-C)?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common digestive disorder affecting 7-21% of the general population. Symptoms include frequent abdominal pain, bloating or discomfort, and changes in the appearance or frequency of bowel movements. IBS-C is a type of IBS in which the abdominal discomfort or bloating happens with constipation. Generally, constipation is when stools don’t pass often enough (less than three times per week).  Having hard stools that are difficult to pass or the feeling of an incomplete bowel movement are signs of constipation.

What are the Symptoms of IBS-C?

The symptoms of IBS-C include abdominal pain and discomfort, along with changes in bowel function.  Bloating and/or gas also may happen. Changes in bowel function may include straining, infrequent stools, hard or lumpy stools, and/or a feeling that the bowel does not empty completely. Some people may feel as if there is a “blockage” preventing them from passing stools. They may need to press on a part of their body or change body position to help them complete their bowel movement. How often a person passes stool, or the way it appears, may be different when abdominal discomfort is happening. With IBS-C, abdominal discomfort often improves after a bowel movement. In most cases, symptoms are ongoing (chronic), but they may come and go.

What Causes IBS-C-?

The cause of IBS-C is not known. Some experts think that it relates to changes in how the intestines move and contract, or changes in how the gut senses pain. In some patients, IBS-C may happen after a past infection in the gut. It could also be related to changes in the messages between the brain and the intestines. There is evidence that bacteria which are normally found in the gut, or changes to the composition of those bacteria, play a role. In addition, researchers are looking into possible roles of genetics and/or changes in the immune system.

How Do Doctors Diagnose IBS-C?

The diagnosis is based on a thorough medical history and physical exam. Doctors use a tool called the Rome criteria, a list of specific symptoms and factors that can help determine if someone has IBS-C. The most important of these criteria include the presence of abdominal pain or discomfort and change in bowel habits. There are no lab tests or imaging studies that can confirm a diagnosis of IBS-C.

In certain situations, a limited amount of testing (such as blood work or imaging studies) may be needed to make sure some other condition is not present. There are also “alarm symptoms” that suggest that something other than IBS-C may causing a person’s symptoms. Examples of alarm symptoms include weight loss, bleeding, or if IBS-C symptoms start after age 50 in a person that did not frequently have these symptoms before.

What Is the Treatment for IBS-C?

IBS-C is not life-threatening. It can, however, affect a person’s quality of life. There is no cure, so the   goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms as much as possible. Treatments may be focused on improving the uncomfortable symptoms of IBS-C – such as abdominal pain and bloating –  or on improving bowel function. Treatments include lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, psychosocial therapy, and medications.

Lifestyle modifications

Lifestyle modifications for IBS-C include reducing or avoiding alcohol and tobacco products, improving sleep habits and getting regular exercise.

Dietary therapy

Some people find that certain foods can “trigger” or set off symptoms of IBS-C. However, the specific foods that bring on symptoms can vary widely from person to person.  Increasing the amount of soluble fiber in one’s diet (for example, oats, psyllium, and flax) can be helpful. Cutting down on caffeine, soda and gas-producing foods is often recommended. Specific diets have been studied and have shown benefit for some patients. Examples include the “low FODMAP” diet (a diet that is low in certain fermentable sugars) and the gluten free diet (a diet that excludes certain proteins that are found in many grains).

It may be helpful to work with a dietitian to better understand possible food triggers. In addition, diets that exclude whole groups or types of food can be difficult to follow, and a dietitian can help make sure your modified diet is both nutritious and safe.

Psychological Therapies

Various therapies focus on treating the central nervous system and have helped patients with IBS-C. Some of these work on how the brain and mind interpret sensations, such as discomfort or bloating. Examples of psychological therapies include hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, multicomponent psychological therapy and dynamic and/or psychotherapy. For some patients, psychological stressors can worsen IBS, such as a history of physical, mental or sexual abuse. Psychiatric conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression are sometimes found along with IBS-C, and treating these problems may also improve the IBS symptoms.

Treatments Targeted at Bacteria

Bacteria are naturally present in the intestines or “gut” of humans, and they play an important role in normal bowel health and function.  ”Probiotic” products are foods or pills that contain live bacteria that may  promote gut health. They are sometimes recommended with the goal of changing of the types of gut bacteria in the intestine. This can sometimes reduce abdominal discomfort, bloating and gas from IBS-C. Experts are not sure of the overall benefit of probiotics for people with IBS; the most beneficial types and amounts of probiotic foods or supplements also are not known.

Antibiotics are another way to change the population of bacteria in the gut, but there is disagreement about this approach.  While antibiotics sometimes provide symptom relief of IBS symptoms, there are potential risks associated with frequent use.  If antibiotics are used too often, they can become less effective, and the risk for developing serious infections increases.

Herbal therapies

There is some evidence that peppermint oil or Chinese herbal formulas, such as a supplement called STW5, can improve IBS-C symptoms.

Medical therapy

Medications for abdominal discomfort:

Antispasmodics are a group of medicines thought to relax smooth muscle in the intestine. They are commonly used to treat IBS-C. They may have some benefit in reducing the symptoms of abdominal pain, discomfort and bloating. Certain medications designed to improve bowel function (see below) can also improve symptoms of abdominal discomfort.

Medications to improve bowel function:

Laxatives and stool softeners often are the first drugs used for patients with IBS-C to stimulate bowel movements. This is because of they are relatively safe, inexpensive and widely available.  Of these medicines, polyethylene glycol (found in some products sold over the counter) has the best evidence behind it, but other laxatives may be used. It is worth noting that certain non-digested sugars (such as lactulose) or sugar alcohol laxatives can increase bloating. Sorbitol is an example of a sugar alcohol and is found in many sugar-free gums and sweets.

Pro-secretory agents are a newer group of medications that moisten both the stool and the intestine so that bowel movements are easier and more frequent. These include the prescription medicines lubiprostone and linaclotide. Both medications have shown some effect in reducing abdominal discomfort and improving bowel function.

Antidepressants may reduce pain and other symptoms in some patients with IBS-C.  They can modify how the gut feels pain, improve mood, and change how the intestine works to move stool along.  Examples of these medications include low dose tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). However, in some patients, tricyclic antidepressants can actually cause constipation, so SSRI may be better suited for treatment of IBS-C.

When to See the Doctor for IBS-C

If you have chronic symptoms of constipation and discomfort, see your doctor for a diagnosis and treatment plan to help reduce and manage symptoms, improve bowel function and increase comfort. It can make your quality of life better.

In addition, if you use over-the-counter medications regularly to reduce symptoms, you should consult a doctor to determine the best course of treatment.

Also report abdominal discomfort or symptoms that come with weight loss, bleeding, iron deficiency (low levels of iron based on blood tests) or symptoms that start after age 50. Tell your doctor about any personal or family history of gastrointestinal diseases such as cancer or inflammatory bowel disease.

Homeopathic exacerbation

During convalescence during homeopathic treatment, a so-called homeopathic exacerbation often occurs, which often occurs in the initial phase of treatment. This process is completely natural and indicates a positive response of the body to treatment. In cases of acute diseases and low dilution of drugs, an exacerbation can last several hours; in the case when the disease is chronic and lasts for a long time, with high dilutions of homeopathic medicines, the exacerbation, accordingly, becomes longer and can reach several days.
The logic of this homeopathic process is reflected in the idea, which reads: “Similia similibus curantur”, that is, “like cures like” . This approach was discovered by Samuel Hahnemann, who discovered that it is possible to cure a disease with the same substance that can cause the same disease in a healthy person. The same substance in large or very small quantities can lead, respectively, to the intoxication of a healthy person or to the healing of a sick person. The more diluted the toxic substance, the greater the therapeutic effect it gives, causing a positive reaction in the body and developing complex physical and mental processes that indicate healing.
Therefore, homeopathic exacerbation is the body’s response to efforts aimed at restoring the internal balance lost due to illness.
Since the medicinal substance causes the same symptoms as those to which the treatment is directed, it is natural that after the initiation of treatment these symptoms will intensify. This process is positive, albeit annoying, and seems to contradict the idea that the patient should only feel improvement, but the aggravation indicates that the drug is working. The duration of this exacerbation depends on the sensitivity of the organism, on its reactivity, on the severity of the pathology, on the dilution of the medicinal substance, and so on.
According to the homeopathic principles discovered by Hahnemann, each patient, with his physical, emotional and mental symptoms, corresponds to a homeopathic medicine that, in pure or undiluted substance, causes the same pathology as in the patient. This remedy is called simillimum and covers all the symptoms the patient has and the reaction of his whole being. When a simillimum is prescribed to a patient, the homeopathic aggravation is felt very strongly precisely because it encompasses the patient’s entire being.

Movie Jungle Cruise (USA, 2021) watch online – Playbill-Kino

In the midst of World War I, the determined Englishwoman Lily (Emily Blunt), doctor of botany, together with the refined younger brother McGregor (Jack Whitehall) goes to the Amazon jungle in search of a mythical tree, the petals of which, according to legend, heal any disease and remove any curse. On the river, they hire Frank (Dwayne Johnson), the captain, who takes tourists around the Amazon in a nondescript steamer, torturing them with puns and rigged adventures. The resurrected conquistadors and the Prussian prince (Jesse Plemons), hoping to win the war with its help, are also looking for the magic tree.

Disney continues to effectively run the fabulous capitalist kingdom, not only turning movies into Disneyland rides, but attractions like Jungle Cruise into films. “Cruise” is a trifling, awkward, but ultimately bearable job: films with The Rock, by definition, are not completely unsuccessful, since they already contain the Rock. What is more interesting here is not the vague artistic merits, but the temperature of the cultural mainstream, which is measured every time by Disney blockbusters: the water, one can conclude, is warm, comfortable for everyday swimming, but not for adventure.

In Cruise, the studio is trying to somehow adapt the conservative romantic-adventurous genre to the present day and does it with an almost touching awkwardness. The tombstone of attempts to keep up with the times is the character McGregor, who, in the middle of the film, makes a not too unexpected come-out. But time in the noisiest segment of the audience had already run far ahead, and instead of applause, Disney received a portion of curses: McGregor is a stereotypical, feminine, slightly mannered gay, “maturing” during the film, and even, they say, performed by a heterosexual actor.

In fact, the dissonance here arises rather due to the fact that the sex from “Cruise” is consistently etched away, and any hint of its existence in the universe looks inappropriate. The novel, which begins with Lily and Frank, is almost the central line of the film, but it does not lead anywhere, since the characters are actually incorporeal, including (paradoxically, given the pounds) Johnson, who is not an artist at all about sex, of course. The dictate of sincere chastity is especially noticeable in contrast to the full of hidden eroticism, “African Queen” John Huston, with whom this relationship is drawn.

In the plastic Disney world, the heroes do not have their pulse rate even in the big underwater scene, which, funny to say, was obviously intended to be risky. The fact that Blunt and Johnson still manage to organize a kind of friendly chemistry under these conditions, even if not in the spirit of Bogart and Hepburn, but, say, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, is a compliment to their talents.

Jaume Collette-Serra, author of a couple of brisk horror films and a bumpy thriller series with Liam Neeson, is seemingly the right director for this venture, business-like and brainless, and he honestly directs Indiana Jones and Dead Man’s Chest, a cross between a colonial quest and an exotic nursery attraction.Ancient puzzles, friendly natives, a hand-crafted computer jaguar plus quirky postmodern touches: flashbacks in the 16th century to Metallica, a zombie named Aguirre, one almost Shyamalan plot twist. Like Dr. Jones, Lily (I would like to call her Indiana in a skirt, but she is in trousers, which we are reminded of every five minutes) has an adversary from Germany – Plemons rides a submarine, talks to bees, shines with the appropriate accent and clearly enjoys the most.

Another question is that Collette-Serra is a director with an average budget, a slightly inflated category “B”, and it can be assumed that he was not very comfortable among the memoranda from the board of directors, green screens and hundreds of millions. In the epic expanses of the imaginary Amazon, his ship quickly leaks, and he begins to patch holes with special effects, which “Cruise” is decorated like a house of the nouveau riche in gold – there are very, too many of them, they are persistently striking and look extremely unnatural. It’s hard to believe for a second that Blunt and Johnson weren’t just in South America, but even approached the water in the pavilion – and this is a swindle that you want to think about during a cruise last.

Myopia in children – causes, symptoms, types and degrees of childhood myopia, diagnosis, prevention and treatment methods

The vast majority of children (according to various sources – up to 80%) are born with hyperopes (good vision in the distance, poor near vision), which is due to the short anteroposterior axis of the eyeball of the newborn (16-18 mm).Later, as both the child and the eyeball grow, hyperopia gradually decreases, and in some children it turns into myopia.

Congenital myopia (myopia) in children

Congenital myopia can be associated with prematurity, heredity, or caused by pathological processes. It should be noted that in most cases, congenital myopia is characterized by weak changes in the fundus.

Congenital myopia, as a rule, is stable, although, in some cases, its progression is possible.Naturally, children with congenital myopia require close attention of an ophthalmologist with constant dynamic supervision. It is necessary to prescribe optical correction as early as possible and to prevent possible amblyopia.

Children’s myopia

Nearsightedness (myopia) – a disease in which children have difficulty distinguishing objects located at a distance. This is due to the fact that parallel rays of light coming from objects located at a distance are brought into focus in a plane in front of the retina, and not on it itself, as a result of which the child’s visual acuity decreases. This is often due to the fact that the anteroposterior axis of the eye is too long. As a result of the elongated shape of the eyeball, an incorrect refraction of light occurs, and visual acuity decreases, primarily in the distance.

Ophthalmologists divide myopia into weak (up to 3.0 D inclusive), medium (from 3.25 to 6.0 D) and high (more than 6 D). High myopia can reach very significant values: 15,20,30 D and more.

Nearsighted children need glasses for distance, and many also for near vision (when myopia exceeds 5-6 diopters). But glasses, alas, do not always correct vision to a high level, which is associated with dystrophic and other changes in the membranes of the myopic eye.

The causes of myopia (myopia) in children can be different: hereditary factor, weakening of the sclera, primary weakness of accommodation, long-term work at a close distance (sitting at a computer, TV), environmental conditions, impaired vision hygiene, weakening of the body as a result malnutrition, overwork, various diseases. But most often myopia (myopia) is caused by a modification of the shape of the eyeball (lengthening of its anteroposterior axis).

Treatment of myopia in children

Numerous means and methods are used to treat myopia. First of all, the treatment of myopia in children is not aimed at eliminating or reducing the degree of myopia, but at stopping or slowing down its further progression and preventing its complications.

A favorable course for childhood and adolescent myopia is a decrease in vision at a rate of no more than 0.5 diopters per year. Then it is treated with conservative methods. You need to wear glasses or lenses, give your eyes more rest, do visual exercises, get enough sleep and eat, observe visual hygiene.

In the children’s department of the Excimer clinic, based on the results of diagnostics, the child is selected a method of contact correction and treatment is carried out using various therapeutic methods. In addition, a program of individual lessons at home is drawn up, parents are explained how to test their eyesight at home. The doctor monitors the changes taking place and, if necessary, adjusts the program.

For the treatment of myopia in the pediatric department of the Excimer clinic there is a whole complex of modern equipment. Vision diagnostics and treatment are carried out according to special game programs. Such therapeutic procedures are used as: laser, ultrasonic and infrared laser therapy, laser stimulation, vacuum massage, magnetotherapy, electrical stimulation – their effectiveness is recognized at the Russian and international levels.

  • Infrared laser therapy procedure

Exposure to the eye with infrared radiation from a close distance improves the nutrition of the eye tissues, relieve the spasm of accommodation, which is one of the main causes of myopia development. The infrared laser therapy machine provides a “physiological massage” to the ciliary muscle, which is responsible for normal accommodation.

  • Vacuum massage

During vacuum massage, an alternating vacuum is used as a therapeutic factor. This procedure significantly improves the hydrodynamics of the eye, increases blood circulation and, as a result, improves the work of the ciliary muscle.

  • Laser therapy

Laser therapy sessions are used to improve spatial vision and accommodation functions. Laser radiation is applied to the screen, which is located at a distance of 8-10 cm from the patient’s eye. The therapeutic effect of laser therapy is due to the observation of changes in the volume and structure of the image that appear on the screen, which stimulates the work of the receptor (nerve) cells of the retina.

  • Electrical stimulation

This is a low intensity metered electric current stimulation. It helps to increase the conduction of impulses in the optic nerve. This procedure is completely painless.

  • Reamed

In addition, in the children’s department of the Excimer clinic, for the treatment of myopia, there is a Reamed complex developed by the leading specialists of the Institute of the Brain. The operation of the device is based on the method of video-computer auto-training. While the child is watching the cartoon, the device uses sensors to take information about the work of the eyes, while simultaneously recording the brain encephalogram. In this case, the image on the screen remains only during “correct” vision and disappears as soon as it ceases to be clear. Thus, the device, as it were, makes the brain subconsciously shorten the periods of non-contrasting vision. This approach optimizes the work of neurons in the visual cortex, and vision is significantly improved.

For each child, the treatment program is drawn up individually, taking into account his age, state of health and general psycho-emotional status. It is very important to take treatment seriously, not to miss mandatory examinations and procedures as prescribed by the attending physician. This approach allows not only to eliminate the problem, but to give a guarantee to the patient and his parents that when the child grows up, the disease will not return.

Notes for Parents

The number of myopic children in different countries of the world, and often within the same country, varies considerably. In different regions of Russia, myopia is detected from 2.3% to 13.8% of schoolchildren, and among high school graduates – from 3.5% to 32.2%. The peak age period for the development of myopia is considered to be 10–12 years, although recently the number of myopic children among primary school students has been rapidly increasing.

Experts have found an increase in the number of nearsighted people in northern latitudes compared to southern latitudes and a lesser prevalence of myopia among children in rural areas than in urban areas. The explanation for these factors can be found in the peculiarities of the light regime, nutritional conditions, the time children spend in the fresh air, in the degree of visual load, in sports, etc.

How to determine myopia in a child?

As you know, in the early stages of development, many diseases respond to treatment much better, this also applies to myopia. The child cannot complain to you that he sees poorly, because he simply does not know the difference between “seeing badly” and “seeing well”.Therefore, if you notice that your child quickly gets tired while reading, bends low over a book or notebook, periodically complains of headaches, blinks often, rubs his eyes with his fists – urgently consult an ophthalmologist! Remember that only a specialist can diagnose diseases in time and prescribe the necessary treatment!

Prevention of incorrect visual habits

But besides everything, parents should be engaged in prevention of incorrect visual habits in their children.Teach them to sit properly at their desk. Make sure that while you work, the light falls on the book or notebook evenly, while at the same time the head and face should remain in the shade. It is best to practice with a desk lamp while leaving the general lighting. This is especially important at night. It is necessary to avoid tilting the child’s head close to the object of work, the best distance for visual activity is 30–35 cm. It is advisable to exclude various glare or reflective surfaces from the child’s field of vision during work. The bad habit of reading lying down can be another of the factors provoking myopia. It is necessary to take breaks after every 30–35 minutes of work at the desk (for younger students – 20–25 minutes), during which you can have a snack, do eye exercises, warm-up exercises, or just relax.

90,000 Belarus: “My doctors told me this is the only chance.”

Yuri is 38 years old, he was diagnosed with a form of tuberculosis resistant to 1st and 2nd line drugs. After two years of treatment that did not work, he had no options, but in 2015, Doctors Without Borders began a new program in the country.

Yuri is 38 years old. He is the first patient to complete treatment under the MSF anti-tuberculosis program, which the organization implements in the Republic of Belarus in close cooperation with the country’s Ministry of Health. The program began in the summer of 2015, when revolutionary anti-TB drugs were brought into the country through the endTB project. Prior to that, Yuri, together with doctors, had been fighting the disease for two years: treating extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis is a long and difficult job. Since this form of the disease is resistant to both first and second line drugs.

Yuri and I are sitting on a bench on the bank of the river on the edge of a large children’s park in the center of Minsk and talking in the hubbub of children’s voices.Children rush past us on scooters, their mothers in light summer dresses hardly keep up with them. The sun is hot, but Yuri does not take off his thick jacket. Explains: “I am afraid that, due to my own stupidity, it will go through somewhere again …” He says, while undergoing treatment in the MSF program, he promised himself to treat his health with caution. Do not waste his luck.

“I thought it was over.”

Yuri learned that he was sick with tuberculosis in 2013.“For some reason, my appetite began to disappear, weakness. I began to lose weight, it was noticed from the outside. The temperature has risen high. I went to the clinic, I thought I had a cold. They made an X-ray and even a small hole was found on it. As soon as I did a “fluorography”, they immediately say: “Do you know what you have …?” I say: “How do I know ?!” “You have a suspicion …”, – talking about the disease, Yuri rarely calls her by name. He says, having learned about her, he was very frightened, for several months he was close to panic. First of all, he was not afraid for his life, he was afraid of the reaction of others.

“I thought it was over. That everyone will turn away. As they say, I will be a leper if someone finds out. I hid it for a long time, already when I was in the hospital. From relatives – no. On the contrary, I told them that this is the situation. To be on the safe side, too. You never know what … And he hid from the rest. ”

The first attempt at treating tuberculosis ended in failure for Yuri. He had a severe form of the disease, which is not sensitive to the drugs available at that time. But this became clear only after a year of grueling treatment.

“As they poured me, there are more than 20 pieces of , my eyes already darkened. Well, it’s bad from them, of course, very much. This is such a dose right away. And sick, and weakness. Such a state that God forbid. Constantly bad. It was not only with me there, everyone had it. In the morning they take their medicine, and nobody is visible until evening. Because everyone is on the bed. Someone immediately vomits, someone later, ”says Yuri.

“This is the only chance.”

Several times it seemed that the disease had receded, the tests came “clean”. But after a few months – bad again. As he almost lost hope, the doctors spoke about the imminent opening of the MSF program. Yuri immediately agreed to participate in it.

“My doctors told me that this is the only chance. I started such a process that the cavities were already enlarging. In general, it is getting worse and worse. There was drug resistance. They said that the old medicines will not help anymore, ”says Yuri.- “Everything literally in a moment – after a couple of days I was given port <, an implantable system for long-term intravenous infusions – approx. ed > and the treatment started. Imipinem, bedaquiline, a few more pills, that’s all. And my improvement went in a moment. I didn’t feel better, I had no appetite, I had nothing. But according to analyzes, X-rays – everyone was surprised! They say wow! It is fantastic! You have such a dynamic! Well, great, in general. And that’s it, literally all my crops were clean already in October. In general, everything is clean. Everyone was surprised – nurses, doctors. Naturally, they said, do not try to miss the treatment, because you need to fix it. ”

Dr. Mikhail Khmyz, MSF doctor, says: “We had our first patients, those who are undergoing palliative care. That is, they receive symptomatic treatment. And they no longer receive anti-tuberculosis treatment ”. This happens if the patient has repeatedly failed in treatment, and it is obvious to doctors that this strain is resistant to the drugs at their disposal. The last hope for such patients is new drugs against tuberculosis, which appeared in the world a few years ago for the first time in 50 years – bedaquiline and delamanid.

The Ministry of Health of Belarus also has at its disposal new anti-tuberculosis drugs since 2015, thanks to a grant from the Global Fund. But this is not enough to treat all the patients who need them, and doctors have to make difficult choices. One of the factors here is adherence to treatment in the previous stages, and one of the main risk factors in this aspect, according to the results of a study conducted by MSF in 2016, is alcohol abuse.

“The main barrier to treatment adherence in TB patients here is alcohol abuse. The Ministry of Health of Belarus is aware of this and has expressed its readiness to work with MSF to solve this problem. We are now discussing an approach that will enable an alcohol-dependent TB patient to achieve good treatment outcomes, ”said Dr. Parvati Nair, Medical Leader for MSF’s country project.

The goal of the program in Belarus, which MSF is implementing in close collaboration with the country’s Ministry of Health, is to improve the chances of patients with multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR and XDR-TB), including those at risk, to cure and improve adherence treatment. The former is facilitated by the use of new regimens for the treatment of tuberculosis within the program, including the use of bedaquiline and delamanid. The second is a patient support service organized by Médecins Sans Frontières, whose counselors and social workers provide patients with not only psychological, but also social support.

An application on the phone that helps to cope with long and difficult treatment

“For example, I see the task of the consultant, and the consultant himself sees his task in not helping the patient, but motivating him,” says Dr. Khmyz.- Today, at the outpatient stage, we have a day hospital, where, first of all, patients who receive imipenem drip in the morning and in the evening go. Considering that Minsk is a big city, it is difficult to come to the dispensary from the other end twice a day. It’s good if you live nearby! ”

For patients who do not need injectable drugs, video-controlled treatment facilitates the situation. This patient-centered approach is starting to be introduced in Belarus. In this case, the patient receives the medicine for several days in advance, and the doctors remotely control the reception using modern technical means. For example, an application installed on a patient’s phone. True, the use of this form of treatment is still at an early stage, but it is hoped that over time this will lead to the creation of more flexible models of patient care.

“Of course, you get mentally tired in two years. But what to do. Thank God it helped. If not for this treatment, we wouldn’t be talking today, ”Yuri says casually. Obviously, I managed to get used to both this thought and this phrase. But for patients like Yuri, who have gone from losing all chances to complete cure, the combination of new technologies and drugs means more effective treatment, and in some cases, the ability to survive.

The World Health Organization’s 2016 Global Tuberculosis Report lists Belarus as a country with a high burden of MDR-TB. MSF supports the Ministry of Health in four TB facilities: the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pulmonology and Phthisiology (RSPC PF), the 1st and 2nd City TB Dispensaries in Minsk, and the City TB Hospital in Volkovichi, Minsk Region.MSF provides psychosocial support (counseling, food kits, travel expenses, assistance from social workers) to approximately 70-75 patients per month to help them continue their treatment. To date, MSF has provided nearly 60 patients with new TB drugs from the endTB project.

Read online “Self-healing” – by Aura Om

Self-healing.
What is this book about?

It is very important how we set ourselves up for the next hour, day, week, month, year … life. What do we think before an important meeting or before starting a serious business? Our words and thoughts create our life. In order to carry out your plans or to feel good always, to be healthy, capable of self-healing, to be able to enjoy life every day and to live long, you need to be able to think correctly. For this, healing attitudes, positive attitudes and affirmations are needed.Tuning our consciousness and subconsciousness to positive waves coming from the universe, we absorb the energy of the higher mind, the light of knowledge, the ability to create and heal. This book is about self-healing.

The inner space of a person is able to receive and pass through itself the energy of the outer space. The ability to receive information-energy coming from outside is inherent in us from birth. We are able to perceive and process what has been sent, to assimilate and absorb everything necessary and useful, and to let go of the unnecessary and harmful from ourselves.A person is born with these abilities and lives with them all his life. The main thing is to be able to turn on your brain receiver-transmitter, and then you can tune and switch your brain to the desired wave or channel.

However, it so happened that in the process of its historical development, mankind “forgot” this ability and “lost” the knowledge that our ancestors used. Today, most people do not know about their innate inner abilities and have forgotten how to use their own inner knowledge, self-healing energy and self-creating power.People with “disabled” abilities cannot use the experience accumulated by previous generations, since they are “out of the access zone” and have no connection with the free unlimited universal “Internet”. It turns out that having forgotten to turn on his brain “receiver-transmitter”, a person does not receive information that is important for him from the outside, which is constantly present next to him, but is simply inaccessible to him. Thus, the overwhelming majority of earthlings live with disabled innate abilities, that is, in fact, they live with dormant brain “computers” that are in a dormant mode, not connected to the universal “Internet”.

The result of such “forgetfulness” of humanity was formed in certain historical conditions under the influence of suppressive factors – this is a whole system of restrictions, established rules and dogmas. We will leave open the questions of how and why this could happen. It is unlikely that respected historians will give us answers to them. We will not delve into conspiracy theories either. Obviously, modern science is also unlikely to help us find answers. It seems that the research efforts by scientists of “brain radio” remained somewhere far away at the very beginning of the twentieth century.

Each of us, somewhere deep inside ourselves, knows the correct answers to these questions and, if we wish, can find them through self-contemplation. Of course, this is not easy at all.

And therefore, the author of the book invites readers to look deep into themselves not in search of a “switch” of a brain “receiver-transmitter, computer or TV”, and not even in search of answers to mysterious questions that worry many, but simply to discover the possibility of self-healing and to use the inner strength and energy available to each person, which the human body has accumulated from the universe. As for inner strength, the meaning lies in the stable phrase “strength of mind”, which gives an exhaustive answer and has been used by sages for many centuries and even millennia. The author will not delve into the essence of this concept and the origin of this philosophy in this book.

“But what about us? What we can do?” – you ask. The answer to this question is simple. It’s not scary that you don’t know how everything works, even in spite of this, healing attitudes, attitudes and affirmations work. This has been proven by many generations. This book will help you use some valuable knowledge to achieve positive results in self-healing, and with the help of special positive attitudes, you can achieve impressive beneficial changes in your life.

The power of the word is limitless. Any word contains energy. The energy code of the word contains an image, meaning and sound vibration. We say good words mentally or aloud and turn on the mechanism of action. With positive words, we heal our body, reprogram our way of thinking and tune in to a positive mood, become the best version of ourselves and attract positive changes into our life.

Let’s make a reservation. The author does not suggest that you completely abandon medical care, treatment or medicine in general. No. The purpose of this book is to help you heal by using the innate inner abilities that are inherent in every person. Let’s turn on your self-healing ability with the help of your subconscious mind.

As and what we set ourselves up for, so everything comes out, then we get it in life. We can talk for a long time about objective external factors that hinder the implementation of our grandiose plans. In fact, the constraints are within us. Fear, negative thoughts, negative emotions, bad and bad habits, if given free rein, can destroy not only all our plans, useful and good undertakings, and even our life, but also lead to a complete loss of health, as well as to irreversible consequences.

Positive attitudes, healing attitudes and affirmations help to improve the psycho-emotional background of a person, stimulate, contribute to the achievement of positive changes in life.Repeated and regular repetition of positive statements containing a verbal formula confirms and reinforces the desired image or required attitude in our subconscious. Thus, positive attitudes, healing attitudes and affirmations begin to work at the subconscious level.

For the repetition of affirmations to be as effective as possible, you need to read them silently or aloud, you can rewrite them many times, chant or even sing. For best results, do this every day for at least one month. The minimum repetition of affirmations is three weeks. A stable positive habit is formed in three months. Choose affirmations of a certain direction: for health, for longevity, or to increase self-esteem, and so on. When we work through them for one month, then they begin to work on our subconscious level. If necessary, you can continue reading the affirmations, tune in for a longer period or resume repeating the monthly course at any time. A stable habit of thinking positively and correctly is usually formed in three months.Read affirmations every day, for example, once a day, at lunchtime, or in the evening. Choose a time that is convenient for you. Affirmations can be read at any time of the day, but the best time when positive attitudes naturally penetrate the subconscious is before bedtime.

In this book, the author offers you healing attitudes, positive attitudes, affirmations that include the ability to heal yourself and make positive changes in your life. As you read, think of each positive statement as if it were a fait accompli.Imagine that everything in your life is already like this, try to experience positive emotions and corresponding feelings of joy and gratitude. Feel inner and outer harmony and connection with the universe. Agree mentally with positive statements, feel that this is already true. Ultimately, happiness is our state of mind.

Frequent and regular repetition of healing attitudes, positive attitudes and affirmations gives an absolute positive result. Everything that we often see, hear, regularly repeat and believe in becomes our reality. As a result of frequent repetition, new positive thoughts become habitual. The habitual is perceived by us as real. Over time, positive, constructive, healing attitudes will supplant and replace our old negative and destructive thoughts. Thus, we reprogram our thinking, direct our thoughts towards healing our body and achieving qualitative positive changes in our life.

This book is a healing psychological practice. The book is intended to be read only in a safe and comfortable home environment.Reading this book can lead to complete relaxation, as a result of which you can fall asleep.

It is strongly discouraged to read this book outside the home, including on the street, in transport, at a bus stop or in a park.

Before you start reading this book at home, be sure to make sure that nothing is standing on the stove in your kitchen, and that all electrical household and gas appliances that require your control are turned off.

Now make yourself comfortable in an armchair or sofa and get ready for total relaxation and tranquility.Perhaps reading a book will put you to sleep. This is the healing effect of this book. Next time you can continue reading where you left off.

As you read healing attitudes, positive attitudes, and affirmations, mentally agree with all of the statements. Feel like a renewed personality, healthy, happy and prosperous person. Set yourself up in a positive new way. Heal yourself, create and create. Live long.

From now on and always be healthy, happy and prosperous.

Cancer – non-fatal diagnosis

I want to dispel the misconception that cancer should be kept quiet. Silencement of diseases that are currently controlled within the framework of diagnostics and treatment is a completely wrong policy. We say that cancer is a common disease that has its own stages and, depending on this, has the results of treatment. Naturally, cancer detected in the early stages of some localizations is a guarantee of complete recovery.

Take skin cancer as an example. Many treat him very superficially, wondering – is he so often and should you beware of him? I want to say that in women, skin neoplasms are in second place after breast cancer. And for men – on the fourth. If skin cancer is not detected in time and is not cured in a timely manner, then the consequences can be dire.

But given the fact that this is external localization, and the person begins to be bothered by unusual manifestations on the skin, these patients are detected in us mainly at stages 1-2.Adequate and timely treatment leads to a complete recovery!

– What can you say about breast cancer?

– There is a direct dependence on the stage of the disease. Survival and cure rate in the first stage of breast cancer (relapse-free period in the first five years) is up to 98%. The remaining 2% are either very aggressive cancers or errors in diagnosis.

Even patients with the fourth stage undergo certain types of treatment – hormonal, radiation, chemotherapy. They can hope for an increase in life expectancy, moreover, with good quality. You should know it. After all, when cancer is detected in its late stages, many simply give up. This cannot be done. Cancer can be treated at any stage! Survival, life expectancy and quality of life are different. But this is not the end.

– It is sometimes said that cancer is contagious. Is it fair?

– Today it can be said unequivocally that the infectious nature of cancer has not been proven, that is, it is impossible to become infected with cancer.

But one point should be noted. There are viruses, in particular, the human papillomavirus, which cause certain changes in tissues, against which one hundred percent cancer can occur. In particular, cervical cancer.

In order to avoid contact with this pathogenic virus, vaccination of girls before sexual intercourse has been proposed. This is already included in the vaccination program of St. Petersburg. Such prevention will significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in women.

– How do bad habits affect the development of cancer?

– Smoking, alcohol abuse, obesity remain one of the main harmful factors in the development of oncological diseases. And, no matter how trite, smoking remains in the first place. According to WHO estimates, it is this that is the cause of 85% of all cases of laryngeal cancer, 80-85% of lung cancer, 75% of esophageal cancer. Even secondhand smoke is dangerous – the risk of illness for such “smokers” exceeds the baseline by 70% 90 013

Referring to the experience of foreign countries, the reduction in tobacco consumption has led to a decrease in the incidence of lung and laryngeal cancer.Cancer is a multifactorial disease. But among patients with cancer of the lung and larynx, the percentage of smokers is much higher.

– One can hear the opinion that late discovered cancer at the last stage is best treated not in a hospital, but with folk remedies. Please comment on it.

– The situation here is alarming. Very often, folk remedies and witchcraft at later stages give results. Success here lies in a very well-administered psychotherapy. The first thing that healers do is talk carefully and for a long time with patients, identify the most sensitive points and act on them with sedative herbs and infusions. It is very important when it does not harm the general condition of the patient.

But when the “healers” begin to invent various potions and conspiracies that supposedly directly affect the tumor, then here we are faced with a completely opposite effect. I personally have not seen a single cancer patient cured in this way. We do not deny the internal psychoimmune restructuring of a person when a cancerous tumor recedes. But that’s far from what pseudo healers advertise.

– What do oncologists say about the psychological aspect?

– Oncologists pay great attention to the psychoemotional state of the patient. On this occasion, in March we are holding the first psychology conference in St. Petersburg in the framework of work with cancer patients. It involves oncologists, neurologists, psychologists and clergy. Indeed, to carry out psychotherapeutic work with believers, priests sometimes come to our aid. It is not surprising that in our institutions, both on Berezovaya Alley and on Veterans Avenue, there are prayer rooms. We pay special attention to the quality of the patient’s mental life.

Psychological help is needed not only by a patient with oncology, but also by his relatives.I can say that relatives do not need to hesitate to contact psychologists and psychotherapists in hospitals and clinics. They will be given the necessary recommendations.

I would like to note that psychologists are constantly working in the outpatient clinics of the dispensary, in the rehabilitation center for ostomy patients, supporting patients and their loved ones.

– What can you say about equipping cancer institutions with modern equipment?

– In recent years, the program of the national project “Health” for the modernization of healthcare has significantly improved the material and technical condition of our medical institutions. It is no longer possible to say that our polyclinics are not provided with X-ray machines, laboratory, endoscopic and ultrasound equipment. More often the problem is in personnel.

Unfortunately, we have to admit that even mammography machines, which the city is provided with at a high level (more than 120), are not available due to staff shortage, are not loaded at full capacity.

Saturation with modern equipment is at the proper level. In St. Petersburg, there are computer mammographs, magnetic resonance tomographs, angiographs, X-ray and ultrasound machines of the same quality and of the same manufacturers as in Europe and America.Advanced technologies are available to doctors of all specialties and they are armed with them today.

Modern requirements for any specialist – advanced training, training, certification. It is necessary. Otherwise, you may simply not be able to keep up with the modernization of equipment and technologies.

– What is the state of the drug supply?

– We use the same drugs we use all over the world. Our list of drugs for chemotherapy or hormone therapy for oncological diseases does not differ from any foreign clinic.

The excitement today is around domestic drugs and the so-called generics. An original drug created in the laboratory of a manufacturer, tested and produced by this manufacturer, has limited application possibilities – the required amount cannot be produced for the whole world.

Therefore, the practice has long been accepted – the release of generics or similar drugs. In Germany, Austria, Israel, you can find original drugs only your own, and the rest are generics.

Today we purchase both original and generic drugs. There were complaints about domestic drugs, especially in the early years of their release. But now we have only decent, proven medicines on the market. They are cheaper than the original ones, since they are produced in Russia, and are more affordable. If we can treat five to ten patients with an original drug, then with a generic drug we can already treat a hundred.

We are just as responsible to the patient, using both original and analogue drugs. We share with the patient the possible negative consequences of their use. After all, we need to diagnose complications and deal with them. It is clear that the doctor is not interested in substandard drugs.

– Some of our compatriots prefer to be treated in Europe.

-Often patients go abroad not for technology and medicine. They go for service and comfort. Where the conditions for keeping patients and everything related to the accompanying component are higher than ours.

I would like to say that in our new clinics the comfort corresponds to foreign ones. Take, for example, our oncological dispensary. All departments after renovation meet international standards.

Another disadvantage of ours is the shortage of nurses and nurses. Their salary directly depends not on the quality, but on the amount of work performed. Nurses work on one and a half or two rates and it is clear that in this case it is quite difficult to demand high quality from such an employee.

-Where is it better to be treated?

– You need to be treated at home, where, as they say, “and the walls help.”Today it is very difficult to rebuild the psychology of people. In the pre-perestroika period, cancer was generally a vague and forbidden topic, when they did not talk about statistics, about morbidity and mortality among the broad masses. Because it was believed that oncology is the lot of underdeveloped countries. I want to say right away that the incidence of breast cancer in the United States and Scandinavian countries is higher than in Russia.

The incidence rate, or rather the detection rate, is just an indicator of well-to-do developed countries. And the more we now pay attention to prevention, early diagnosis, one of the components of which is screening studies and clinical examination, and as a result of this we see an increase in the detection rate and, naturally, the incidence. Because until the period of this active work, it remains veiled and it turns out that we see the patient already in the later stages.

– There is a lot of talk about precancerous conditions. What it is?

– Dispensary examination began last year. And, as a result, we got an increase in the number of patients with so-called benign processes, which can be attributed to precancerous and, naturally, cancer. One of the tasks of prophylactic medical examination is early detection of a tumor. And if we see an increase in the identified pathologies, then this is a positive moment.

For example, diffuse fibroadenomatosis of the mammary glands. As part of the clinical examination, a large number of women with such a diagnosis were identified. I would like to reassure them right away – diffuse fibroadenomatosis is not a precancerous condition and does not lead to breast cancer.

But women in this case should pay attention to the general functional state. After all, diffuse fibroadenomatosis of the mammary glands reflects disturbances in the functioning of the thyroid gland, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and genitals. Such patients require a therapeutic physical examination. Often their diagnosis is due to chronic gastritis or cholecystitis.

In conclusion, it must be said that in case of suspicion of oncology, the shortest path is an immediate appeal to an oncologist of any level. He, having assessed the situation, will lead the patient along the shortest path to diagnosis and treatment.
The interview was published in the newspaper “Home Doctor” of the City Center for Medical Prevention.

90,000 What are the risks of wet feet? The head of the therapeutic department No. 3 of the polyclinic of the Central Clinical Medical Unit spoke about the consequences and first aid

Everybody has happened to wet their feet in bad weather. In addition to a spoiled mood, feeling unwell and unkempt appearance, this condition in most cases is accompanied by a number of diseases. What is the threat of a walk through the puddles and what should be done so that such a walk does not affect health, said Natalya Butskikh, head of the therapeutic department No. 3 of polyclinic No. 2, therapist of the Central Clinical Medical Unit.

Wet feet, prolonged exposure to temperatures between -1 … + 1 mean a high risk of developing viral and colds. Hypothermia can lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, inflammation. For many people with weakened immunity, wet feet cause a runny nose, cough, and malaise.

With hypothermia of the legs, patients often exacerbate kidney pathologies, in particular, pyelonephritis, and the bladder becomes the most unprotected area. The period of autumn bad weather is the season of cystitis in the fair half of humanity and prostatitis in men.

The lower extremities are the first to feel cold and suffer from hypothermia. It is not surprising that people with problems of the musculoskeletal system are afraid of the aquatic environment: in particular, sore joints (arthritis), the spine (osteochondrosis) remind of themselves. It is especially important not to let the feet get wet for people suffering from thrombophlebitis and varicose veins.
