How to Quickly Get Rid of a UTI: Effective Home Remedies and Medical Treatments
What are the most effective ways to treat a UTI at home. How long does it typically take for UTI symptoms to clear up. When should you seek medical attention for a urinary tract infection. What antibiotics are commonly prescribed to cure UTIs.
Understanding Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. UTIs are more common in women due to their anatomy, but men can also develop these infections. Recognizing the symptoms and seeking prompt treatment is crucial for quick relief and preventing complications.
Common Symptoms of a UTI
- Painful or burning sensation during urination
- Frequent urge to urinate
- Passing small amounts of urine
- Cloudy or strong-smelling urine
- Blood in the urine
- Pelvic pain (in women)
- Rectal pain (in men)
If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and treatment. Early intervention can help prevent the infection from spreading to the kidneys and causing more serious health issues.
Home Remedies to Alleviate UTI Symptoms
While medical treatment is often necessary for UTIs, several home remedies can help alleviate symptoms and support the healing process. These natural approaches can be used alongside prescribed treatments to promote faster recovery.
Increase Fluid Intake
Does drinking more water help flush out a UTI? Yes, increasing your fluid intake, especially water, can help flush bacteria from your urinary system. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. This will encourage frequent urination, which helps eliminate bacteria from the bladder and urethra.
Urinate Frequently
Don’t hold your urine for long periods. Urinating regularly helps flush out bacteria before they can multiply and cause more severe infections. Always urinate after sexual intercourse to help remove any bacteria that may have entered the urethra.
Try Cranberry Products
Can cranberry juice cure a UTI? While cranberry juice or supplements aren’t a cure, they may help prevent UTIs by making it harder for bacteria to adhere to the urinary tract walls. However, scientific evidence on its effectiveness is mixed. If you choose to use cranberry products, opt for unsweetened varieties to avoid excess sugar intake.
Apply Heat
Placing a warm compress or heating pad on your lower abdomen can help reduce bladder pressure and discomfort associated with UTIs. Be sure to use a towel between your skin and the heat source to prevent burns.
Medical Treatments for UTIs
While home remedies can provide relief, most UTIs require medical intervention for complete resolution. Prompt treatment is essential to prevent the infection from spreading to the kidneys.
Antibiotics
Antibiotics are the primary treatment for UTIs. The type and duration of antibiotic treatment depend on the severity of the infection and the patient’s medical history. Common antibiotics prescribed for UTIs include:
- Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra)
- Fosfomycin (Monurol)
- Nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Macrobid)
- Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
- Levofloxacin (Levaquin)
How long does it take for antibiotics to clear up a UTI? Most people start feeling better within 1-2 days of starting antibiotics. However, it’s crucial to complete the entire course of antibiotics as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is fully eradicated.
Pain Relief Medications
Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage pain and discomfort associated with UTIs. Additionally, your doctor may prescribe phenazopyridine (Pyridium) to relieve urinary pain, burning, and urgency.
Preventing Future UTIs
Taking proactive steps to prevent UTIs can help reduce their frequency and severity. Incorporating these habits into your daily routine can significantly lower your risk of developing urinary tract infections.
Practice Good Hygiene
- Wipe from front to back after using the toilet
- Urinate before and after sexual activity
- Avoid using scented feminine products
- Wear breathable, cotton underwear
Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water helps dilute urine and flush out bacteria before they can cause an infection. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day, or more if you’re active or live in a hot climate.
Consider Probiotics
Probiotics, particularly those containing Lactobacillus strains, may help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the urinary tract and vagina, potentially reducing the risk of UTIs.
When to Seek Medical Attention
While many UTIs can be managed with home remedies and over-the-counter treatments, certain situations require immediate medical attention. Be aware of these warning signs that indicate a need for professional evaluation:
- Fever over 101°F (38.3°C)
- Chills or shaking
- Nausea and vomiting
- Severe back or side pain
- Blood in urine
- Symptoms lasting more than a week
- Recurring UTIs
Is it dangerous to leave a UTI untreated? Yes, untreated UTIs can lead to serious complications, including kidney infections, sepsis, and permanent kidney damage. If you suspect you have a UTI, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Special Considerations for Different Populations
Certain groups may be more susceptible to UTIs or require special attention when it comes to prevention and treatment. Understanding these unique considerations can help tailor UTI management strategies effectively.
Pregnant Women
Pregnant women are at increased risk of UTIs due to hormonal changes and the physical pressure of the growing uterus on the bladder. Untreated UTIs during pregnancy can lead to complications such as preterm labor and low birth weight. Regular screening and prompt treatment are essential for expectant mothers.
Elderly Individuals
Older adults may experience atypical UTI symptoms, such as confusion, agitation, or changes in behavior. They may also have difficulty communicating their symptoms, making diagnosis challenging. Regular check-ups and maintaining good hygiene are crucial for this population.
People with Diabetes
Individuals with diabetes are more prone to UTIs due to weakened immune systems and potential nerve damage that affects bladder function. Maintaining good blood sugar control and proper hygiene can help reduce the risk of UTIs in diabetic patients.
Emerging Research and Alternative Treatments
As antibiotic resistance becomes an increasing concern, researchers are exploring alternative treatments and preventive measures for UTIs. While many of these approaches are still in the experimental stage, they offer promising avenues for future UTI management.
D-Mannose
D-mannose is a type of sugar that may help prevent UTIs by inhibiting bacterial adhesion to the urinary tract walls. Some studies suggest it could be as effective as antibiotics in preventing recurrent UTIs, with fewer side effects.
Bacteriophage Therapy
Bacteriophages are viruses that specifically target and kill bacteria. Research is ongoing to develop bacteriophage therapies as an alternative to antibiotics for treating UTIs, particularly those caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Immunotherapy
Vaccines and other immunotherapeutic approaches are being studied as potential ways to boost the body’s natural defenses against UTI-causing bacteria. These treatments aim to reduce the frequency of recurrent UTIs and decrease reliance on antibiotics.
Can UTIs be prevented or treated without antibiotics? While antibiotics remain the gold standard for treating UTIs, ongoing research into alternative therapies may provide additional options in the future. Always consult with a healthcare provider before trying any new treatment approach.
Lifestyle Factors That May Influence UTI Risk
Various lifestyle factors can impact your susceptibility to UTIs. By understanding and modifying these factors, you may be able to reduce your risk of developing urinary tract infections.
Diet and Nutrition
While no specific diet can prevent UTIs entirely, certain dietary choices may influence your risk:
- Stay hydrated with water and unsweetened beverages
- Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, as they can irritate the bladder
- Consume foods rich in vitamin C to help acidify urine and inhibit bacterial growth
- Consider incorporating probiotic-rich foods into your diet
Personal Hygiene Practices
Maintaining good personal hygiene is crucial for UTI prevention:
- Avoid using harsh soaps or douches in the genital area
- Change out of wet swimsuits or sweaty clothes promptly
- Use unscented, gentle cleansing products
- Consider switching to unscented menstrual products
Sexual Activity
Sexual activity can increase the risk of UTIs, particularly in women. To minimize this risk:
- Urinate before and after sexual intercourse
- Clean the genital area before and after sexual activity
- Consider using non-spermicidal lubricated condoms
- Avoid using spermicides, which may increase UTI risk
By incorporating these lifestyle modifications and remaining vigilant about UTI symptoms, you can take proactive steps to maintain urinary tract health and reduce the frequency of infections. Remember, if you suspect you have a UTI, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Do I Have a UTI? And Other Burning Questions
Aug 23, 2021 11:45 AM
It’s not something you think about—until something doesn’t feel right. Then, panic can set in. Even though UTIs are a common issue, it doesn’t make them any less painful or worrisome.
Hanadi Farrukh, MD, is an internal medicine specialist at University of Utah Health Madsen Health Center in Salt Lake City. She helped answer some of the typical questions people want to know about when it hurts to go.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): The Basics
A UTI is an infection of the urinary system or renal system that is made up of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and the urethra. You should call your doctor if you notice any of the following tell-tale UTI symptoms:
- Painful urination
- Frequent bathroom visits
- Extreme urgency
- Bad-smelling urine
- Cloudy urine
- Blood in urine
- Flu-like symptoms
- Flank or lower abdominal pain
You can use over-the-counter UTI tests to determine the presence of inflammatory cells in urine then contact or see your primary care provider for evaluation and treatment.
UTI Causes
Despite popular opinion, tight clothing, and diet do not cause UTIs. Anatomy does play a role, though.
“The distance between the urethra and the rectum is short, so it’s a quick, easy transmission.”
Hanadi Farrukh, MD
According to Dr. Farrukh, “a UTI usually is an infection that comes from the bacteria around vagina and rectum. The distance between the urethra and the rectum is short, so it’s a quick easy transmission,” says Dr. Farrukh. Sexual intercourse, birth control methods such as diaphragm and spermicidal use, diabetes, obesity, incomplete emptying of bladder, vaginal dryness related to menopause, inappropriate wiping, and diarrhea can lead to UTI in women.
“It’s really not clear whether cranberry does anything at this point. We tell people if they want to use it, it’s fine. But we don’t have confidence that it can prevent or cure a UTI. ”
Hanadi Farrukh, MD
Do Men Get Urinary Tract Infections?
Holding urine for too long can also cause a UTI for both men and women. An enlarged prostate can prevent some men from emptying their bladder fully, increasing the chances of UTI that can progress to kidney or prostate infection.
Dr. Farrukh says, “People who can’t empty their bladder efficiently due to prolapse of bladder (cystocele) or a pelvic prolapse are at increased risk of infection.”
How long does a UTI last?
Most infections can be cured with three to five days of antibiotics, but some simple UTIs can become complicated and present real health concerns. These conditions can increase your chances of a complicated UTI:
- kidney stones,
- diabetes, and
- pregnancy
Symptoms in elderly patients may present as weakness, recurrent falls, and mental confusion. Untreated, a UTI can affect the kidneys, and cause abdominal pain, fever, mental confusion, and septic shock.
Severe pelvic pain, flank pain, chills with fever, and a fever above or equal to 100º can indicate a kidney infection and require urgent evaluation.
How to Get Rid of a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection)
Your primary care doctor may prescribe an antibiotic. Over-the-counter medicines like Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are helpful for pain and fever. Phenazopyridine helps the urinary urgency and burning sensation but will not cure UTI, so you should talk to your doctor about antibiotic treatment.
Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Infections
It’s important to drink enough fluids about 64 ounces daily, urinate when you need to, and empty your bladder efficiently. Many people try to find healing in cranberry pills or cranberry juice, but Dr. Farrukh says, “It’s really not clear whether cranberry does anything at this point. We tell people if they want to use it, it’s fine. But we don’t have confidence that it can prevent or cure UTI.”
UTI Prevention
Hydrating and emptying the bladder are the most important prevention. Women should also wipe front to back, and get up and urinate after intercourse. For women who have recurrent UTI, they can discuss preventive antibiotics with their physician. Post-menopausal women may benefit from vaginal estrogen.
Urinary tract infections can be serious, but they are easily treated. Dr. Farrukh says, “Urinary tract infections are very common. Most women have a UTI at some point in their life. Primary care is always the first line of defense.”

What is the best way to cure a UTI?
Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director of Patient.info
Urinary tract infections are divided into upper and lower. Upper urinary tract infections involving your kidneys should always be treated with antibiotics because they can hold serious complications. Lower UTI cystitis where you get burning, stinging, needing to pass water more often can often be treated just with symptom relief such as drinking fluids, pain killers, a hot water bottle, possibly cranberry capsules or cystitis sachets, while your body fights off the infections.
However if you have a very high fever, you get blood when you pass water, you feel extremely unwell, or you have pain in your loins, you should always see a doctor for antibiotics.
Can you cure a UTI without antibiotics?
Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director of Patient.info
Lower UTI, in other words cystitis, which causes inflammation of the bladder with burning and stinging when you wee leading to wee more often, sometimes low tummy pain and a mild fever often doesn’t need antibiotics. Upper urinary tract infections, kidney infections always need antibiotics because they can cause serious complications.
If your symptoms of cystitis don’t settle within two or three days or if you pass blood when you wee, feel very unwell with hot an cold shivering and shaking all over or pain in you loins you will need antibiotics.
How long does it take for a UTI to go away?
Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director of Patient.info
The most common kind of UTI is cystitis or a lower urinary tract infection, an inflammation of your bladder. Sometimes even without antibiotics, the symptoms may settle down on their own as your body fights off the infection within a few days.
However if your symptoms don’t settle within two to three days or if you have a very high fever, if you have blood in your urine, feel extremely unwell, or get pain that goes up to your loins where your kidneys are, you should see a doctor. You may need antibiotics and if you do take those they should start from previous symptoms within 12 to 24 hours.
Can you get a UTI when pregnant?
Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director of Patient.info
You can get a UTI when your pregnant but actually, they’re probably more common and can cause more serious complications when you are pregnant then when you are not. Pregnancy makes a lot of your muscles relax and that in part can reduce the flow of urine allowing more time for germs to multiply inside your bladder or your kidneys.
The pressure of the baby’s head on your bladder can also prevent you from emptying your bladder probably, meaning you got stagnant urine sitting there, again a perfect place for germs to multiply. So if you do get symptoms of cystitis, because there is a real risk of complications including premature labour, it is very important to see a doctor.
Can you get a UTI on your period?
Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director of Patient.info
Sadly, you can get a UTI anytime. UTIs, particularly cystitis, are caused by germs which normally live on the outside of the skin outside the vagina and they can travel up the urethra, the tube that you wee down causing inflammation in your bladder.
In the run up to your period you are often more constipated and that may make it harder to empty your bladder completely, that could in turn lead to stagnant urine, where it is easier for germs to grow. Also theoretically during your period, a tampon could press on your urethra, that’s the tube that the wee comes down, when it comes out of your bladder and that might increase the risk of germs getting up.

At-Home Remedies to Get You Through a UTI: Apple Hill Gynecology: Gynecology
If, like 60% of American women, you’ve had a urinary tract infection (UTI), and that burning sensation when you urinate strikes, you know you need to take action fast to avoid some serious pain. You’ve probably heard of a few home remedies, but do any of them actually work?
Marsha D. Bornt, MD, Donna Lamson, CRNP, MSN, WHNP-BC, and their team at Apple Hill Gynecology, in York, Pennsylvania, have treated countless UTIs over the years. We want you to know that most of them won’t work, even if they provide temporary relief from your symptoms.
First, let’s review the facts about UTIs.
UTIs develop when bacteria enter your urethra. Women are more likely to develop UTIs because of the proximity of their urethras to their anuses. Sexual activity and incorrect hygiene can push bacteria into your urethra.
As the infection takes hold, you develop symptoms such as burning pain during urination, cloudy or discolored urine, foul-smelling urine, and pelvic pain. When untreated, the bacteria can travel up your urinary tract to your bladder and potentially spread to your ureters and kidneys.
Drink lots of water
Drinking plenty of water is a great way to keep your urinary tract healthy overall. You should also incorporate it into an overall treatment plan for a UTI. However, if a bacterial infection has taken root in your urinary tract, you are going to need more than water to get rid of it.
Cranberry juice
Though studies show that cranberry can prevent bacteria from sticking to the inside of your urethra, most of the cranberry juices that you can buy at the grocery store are chock full of sugar. The sugar makes the juice taste better, but also is appealing to bacteria and can lead to a more severe infection. If you’re prone to UTIs, ask your provider at Apple Hill Gynecology if cranberry capsules or other sugar-free products could help prevent infections.
Over-the-counter UTI treatments
You can pick up plenty of over-the-counter UTI products in your local pharmacy. If you start to take any of these products at the first sign of a UTI, they can relieve your symptoms. However, this might lull you into a false sense of security. Though you might have symptom relief, these products won’t actually fight off the bacterial infection.
What gets rid of a UTI?
If you have any UTI symptoms, you should make an appointment with our team here at Apple Hill Gynecology. We offer urinalysis tests to confirm your diagnosis and can prescribe antibiotics to fight off the infection. We can offer advice on easing your symptoms and reducing your risk of recurring UTIs.
Protect yourself from getting a UTI in the first place
Fortunately, you can take steps to prevent urinary tract infections. First, make sure to drink lots of water. Staying hydrated helps your kidneys and urinary tract flush out liquid waste and bacteria.
Additionally, you should practice excellent genital hygiene. Clean your genitals clean with a mild, unscented soap. Always, and we mean always, wipe from front to back after you urinate.
And finally, urinate after sexual intercourse. Sexual activity can push bacteria into your urethra. Urinating right away can flush out any fluids that may have been forced into your urethra during sex.
You could also increase your vitamin C intake. It can increase the acidity of your urine, which creates a hostile environment for bacteria. You might also find that taking a probiotic helps you maintain a healthy biome and immune system. If you have questions about UTI prevention and treatment, your provider can answer them.
Call our office, or make an appointment online today if you have any UTI symptoms. Getting a diagnosis and treatment as early as possible can lessen your discomfort and help you get back to good health.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in Infants & Children
What is the urinary tract and how do infections occur?
The urinary tract is the body’s drainage system for getting rid of urine (liquid waste). It includes the two kidneys, bladder (the organ where urine is stored), and two ureters and one urethra (tubes).
The blood in the body passes through the kidneys. The kidneys filter the liquid waste products (urine) out of the blood. This urine passes through the ureters and into the bladder. The urine leaves the bladder through the urethra, and passes out of the body through the opening (meatus).
Most UTIs in children occur because bacteria that are normally found in the bowel cause an infection in the urinary tract.
What causes UTIs?
These factors can increase your child’s chance of getting a UTI:
- Poor bathroom habits, such as not changing out of wet underwear or not wiping properly
- “Holding it,” instead of urinating frequently (in toilet trained kids)
- Frequent constipation or diarrhea
- Having some kind of blockage in the urinary tract that limits or stops urine flow
- Irritation in the “perineal” area (where urine comes out of the body). This can be caused by things such as bubble bath, bath soap or tight clothing.
- A condition called vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), in which urine flows backward from the bladder and toward the kidneys
Learn about how to prevent a UTI.
Are UTIs common in children?
UTIs are the second most common type of infection in children (ear infections are the most common). They are more common in girls, although uncircumcised boys are at slightly higher risk than other male babies or older boys.
What are the signs and symptoms of a UTI?
There are two different kinds of UTIs. The most common is called cystitis. It occurs when the infection is in the urethra or bladder. A child who has cystitis may:
- Have a fever (this may be the only symptom in babies)
- Be fussy (common in babies)
- Vomit (common in babies or older children)
- Feel the need to use the bathroom often, yet only pass a very small amount of urine (more common in older children)
- Wet themselves, even after being successfully potty trained
- Have pain or burning with urination (more common in older children)
- Have lower belly or back pain
- Have blood in the urine
The less common type of UTI is called pyelonephritis, which is an infection that occurs in the kidneys. Pyelonephritis can sometimes be treated at home, but in some cases it can become serious and even life threatening. A child who has pyelonephritis may have:
- A fever greater than 101 degrees
- Flu-like symptoms such as shaking, chills, nausea, vomiting or achiness
- Pain in the belly, back, side or groin
- Pain or a burning feeling when urinating
- Urine that is cloudy, red, foul smelling or changes to a dark cola color
- Pus or blood in the urine
- Urgent or frequent urination
If your child experiences symptoms of cystitis or pyelonephritis, call your pediatrician.
How is a child diagnosed with a UTI?
If the pediatrician thinks your child may have a UTI, they will:
- Ask about your child’s symptoms and health history
- Do a physical exam
- Run tests, including a urinalysis (a simple study of a urine sample) and/or urine culture (which detects specific bacteria in urine)
How do you treat UTIs?
The most common treatment for a UTI is antibiotics, which kill the germs that are causing the infection. The pediatrician also may recommend that your child take pain relief medicine as needed, and drink plenty of fluids.
UTIs can cause irritation and raw skin on your child’s private parts. If these symptoms do not improve after exposing the skin to air and creating a moisture barrier with petroleum jelly or, zinc oxide or lanolin, let your pediatrician know.
If my child is being treated for a UTI, what can I do to help?
- Give your child all the medicine the doctor prescribed for the infection. Do not stop the medicine, even if your child is feeling and acting better.
- Give your child lots of fluids to drink so they continue to urinate regularly, every two to three hours for toilet trained children.
- Tell your doctor if your child’s fever, pain or other symptoms continue after taking the medicine for two days.
- If your child is in pain or has a fever, give medicine only as directed by the doctor. Do not give aspirin to children.
- Keep all follow-up appointments.
- Do not allow your child to sit in bathwater that contains bubble bath, shampoo or soap, as this can cause irritation. If your child takes a bath, have them sit in clear water until you’re ready to use these products. Once you are finished, rinse your child off and remove the products from the tub.
What if my child gets frequent UTIs?
Some children get UTIs more often than others. Be sure to tell your pediatrician if symptoms happen again after treatment, or if your child has three or more UTIs in a six-month period.
The pediatrician may recommend taking your child to a pediatric urology practice for an evaluation. Physicians and nurse practitioners at this type of practice specialize in treating children who have problems with their urinary system. These specialists may run additional tests to learn about the cause, and recommend a new treatment plan.
These additional tests may include:
- An ultrasound to view the kidneys, bladder and the tubes connecting them
- A voiding cystourethrogram (sis-toe-u-reeth-ro-gram), or VCUG. This X-ray shows how the bladder is working while the person is urinating.
Natural Remedies for UTI – Mama Natural
We can take something as simple as taking a pee (or poop) for granted. But, if we have a UTI, it feels like broken glass coming out of our poor urethra! If we treat know the signs and symptoms, we can try natural remedies for UTIs before resorting to antibiotics.
What is a urinary tract infection or UTI?
When you think of a urinary tract infection, you probably picture burning when you pee. A UTI, however, can affect the kidneys, ureter, bladder, and/or urethra. A lower urinary tract infection is the most common, and involves the bladder and urethra.
Women are more likely than men to get a UTIs (bummer!) and if you’re pregnant, you have to be extra careful as the infection can travel to your kidneys and cause things like early birth or high blood pressure.
Nearly 95% of cases of UTIs are caused by bacteria such as e. coli. This bacteria generally starts spreading at the opening of the urethra and then travels up the body to the bladder.
How to tell if you have a UTI
There’s always the classic burn when you pee symptom, but there are also other indications that you may be dealing with a UTI.
UTI Symptoms
- Pain or stinging when peeing
- An urge to pee, but little actually comes out
- Cloudy or rank smelling urine
- Bloody or pink tinged urine
- Cramping
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Confusion or delusions
What causes UTI
Having sex can cause germs in the vaginal canal to be pushed in to the urethra. Solution: Always pee before and after sex.
Wiping from back to front after a having a bowel movement can also introduce unwanted bacteria into the vagina. Solution: Always wipe front to back and keep the vaginal and anal area clean with daily washing. Soap can disrupt the pH balance of the vagina, but warm water will work well.
Wearing tight pants (skinny jeans anyone??) or underwear made from polyester or other synthetic fabrics acts as an incubator for pathogenic bacteria. Solution: Let that area breathe, go commando and/or wear cotton underwear.
Trying to hold it in when you feel the need to pee. Solution: Go when you feel the urge; don’t hold it in.
Some forms of birth control, specifically diaphragms and spermicides promote UTIs. Solution: Use natural birth control methods instead. Get the low down on the best birth control options here.
Kidney complications, like kidney stones and diabetes can also cause UTIs. So if you have diabetes (or gestational diabetes), you’re at an even greater risk of getting a UTI. Solution: Follow a low sugar, low oxalate diet. Monitor your kidney health and immediately take steps to remedy any issues.
Loss of estrogen and hormonal changes can cause a UTI. Ask any PMS woman on a midnight ice cream splurge, and she’ll tell you that her hormones can be a little wacky. Solution: Keep hormones balanced with healthy fats like avocado, hemp seed, and olive oil. Learn how to use red raspberry leaf tea for hormone balance.
Using soap down there can disrupt the pH balance, but it can also irritate the area and cause inflammation. Solution: Keep the area clean with warm water, but go easy on the soap, and only use completely natural soap products. Here’s why I don’t use soap… much.
Sugar consumption weakens the immune system giving bacteria a better chance to overgrow and invade the body. It also depletes the body of vital nutrients, further weakening the body’s defenses. Solution: Stay away from sugar with these 6 tips to help you kick the habit.
Using a bathtub, especially a jetted one that can trap and recirculate pathogenic bacteria. Solution: Make sure to keep your tub very clean, or just take showers if you’re prone to UTIs. (source) Whirlpool tubs need cleaned with bromine occasionally, which is more effective than vinegar or bleach.
How to eliminate a UTI
Since UTI’s are caused by bacteria, conventional treatment is to give an antibiotic, which can certainly be appropriate when the infection becomes serious. But, if caught early on, you can try natural remedies for UTIs as an alternative with your doctor’s approval.
About 90% of UTI’s are caused by the bacteria E. coli. For the 10% of infections caused by other forms of bacteria, and also for those who are susceptible to frequent UTIs, you need to have something that will disrupt the pathogenic biofilm. (source) In these situations, you can use supplements like InterFase plus or Biofilm Defense to get rid of those hard to get rid of biofilms. These supplements are not recommended during pregnancy so it’s best to deal with chronic conditions before or after pregnancy.
Natural remedies for UTI
Here are some natural remedies for UTIs. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking any supplements or remedies, particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, if your symptoms get worse and are not responding to natural remedies, see your doctor immediately!
Balance hormones
Eating healthy fats like cod liver oil, raw butter, hemp and chia seeds will help to balance hormones and keep your blood sugar stable. You can look into other supplements like real-food vitamin C and chaste berry which can help to strengthen your luteal phase and progesterone production.
Lauricidin
This antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial supplement fights the gram positive bacteria that cause UTI not caused by E. coli. This works by blocking replication, and damaging the cell membrane so that the immune system can come in and destroy the bacteria. (source)
It is medium chain saturated fatty acid derived from coconut oil and while it is non-toxic, you need to talk to your healthcare practitioner if it’s right for you, particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Where to buy? I like this brand of Lauricidin best.
Cranberry juice or extract
Cranberry can help prevent E. coli from attaching to the urinary tract lining and creating a biofilm, so it’s also good for use as a preventative. It does not however prevent E. coli from replicating. (source)
Cranberry also inhibits the growth of gram positive bacteria from Staphylococcus aureus, though it doesn’t get rid of existing biofilm. (source) Cranberry juice can also be used, but it should be unsweetened. However, it can be a little too tart for most taste buds.
Where to buy? Most local grocery stores will have organic, unsweetened cranberry juice. You can also use this concentrate form. Shoot for 16-32 ounces of juice per day.
High dose vitamin C
Vitamin C stimulates the immune system by increasing interferon, a protein that stops pathogenic microbes from replicating. Don’t use cheap ascorbic acid, but opt for all natural rose hip tea or camu camu powder instead.
Where to buy? I like using this natural, food-based vitamin C supplement best. Shoot for at least 1,000 mg per day or 2 heaping teaspoons of camu camu powder.
Probiotics
The probiotic supplement Fem Dophilus contains strains that specifically target UTI. One study found that Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 and L. reuteri RC-14 are the most effective probiotic strains for the prevention of UTI. These also happen to be the same strains featured in Fem Dophilus. (source)
Where to buy? You may find at a local health food store or you can buy here. Follow the manufacturer’s direction on dosage.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D boosts the immune system and, in studies, induces the antimicrobrial peptides cathelicidin in the bladder that help prevent UTI. This can be used as a preventative measure if you’re prone to UTI, but it can also help your body recover faster.
Where to buy? I like this vitamin D product for best absorption. Shoot for at least 10,000 IU of vitamin D per day until the symptoms go away.
Crushed garlic
Garlic is one of the most potent antibiotics, natural or prescription. You can take some in a teaspoon of raw honey (preferably this type which boosts immunity) to cover the spiciness. You want to crush your garlic clove and let it sit for 10 minutes as this creates a powerful compound called allicin to form. Take 1 crushed clove 3 times a day up or up to every 2 hours a day. Women have reported completely curing their UTI after just a few days of taking a partial crushed garlic clove three times a day. (source)
Where to buy? You can find organic garlic bulbs at your local grocery store. I would combine with this honey for an added boost!
D-mannose
This supplement is effective at binding to E. coli and expelling it from the body. It’s naturally found in cranberries, blueberries and apples, but you need a concentrated and standardized extract for it to be most effective. (If the infection is not caused by E. coli though, then this supplement won’t be effective.)
Women RAVE about this supplement and some use for a preventative measure since it’s safe to take daily in small doses. The standard treatment is 500 mg every 2-3 hours for 5 days. (source) You can also continue on a lower dose for preventative use. It has a naturally sweet taste and mixes well in yogurt, smoothies or even water.
Where to buy? I like this form the best since there are no additives and you can just use in food. You can also try this supplement form which combines with cranberry extract for a one two punch. Follow manufacturer’s directions for dosage.
Water
Yes, drink plenty of water! This helps to flush the kidneys and cleanse the infection from the body. Adding freshly squeezed lemon will make it even more therapeutic. While it won’t kill a UTI on its own, it’s a vital piece of the puzzle in your body’s healing journey.
Where to buy? Hopefully, you have a good filtering system for your water. Otherwise, purchase 5 gallon jugs of clean, spring water. Shoot for at least 8 glasses per day.
Apple cider vinegar
The all powerful apple cider vinegar is yet another useful tool to naturally treat a UTI. It works by flushing out bacteria, and dislodging it from the urinary tract. It also helps to make the urine more acidic, so it’s unfriendly to bacteria growth.
Where to buy? Most local grocery stores will have apple cider vinegar but be sure you get a RAW FORM. I like this brand best. You should see the “mother” culture on the bottle of bottle that makes the liquid a little murky versus translucent. Shoot for at least 2 TB of raw apple cider vinegar a day.
How about you?

How Long Do I Need to Take Antibiotics For UTI?
Anyone who’s dealing with a UTI is asking themselves, how can I get rid of a UTI fast? Fortunately, after you begin antibiotic treatment you can expect to feel symptom relief in as little as one to two days.
How long your doctor prescribes antibiotics for your UTI will vary based on the severity of your infection.
For an uncomplicated UTI antibiotics may be prescribed for as little as three days.
That said, some doctors may have you take antibiotics for UTI for a week, and for complicated UTIs antibiotic treatment can last up to two weeks.
Antibiotics for UTI What to Expect
Type of UTI | Duration of Antibiotic Treatment | Expected Symptom Relief |
Uncomplicated/mild UTI | 2-3 days | 24-48 hours |
Moderate to Severe UTI | 7-10 days | 24-48 hours |
Complicated UTI | 14 days or more | 24-48 hours |
Antibiotics for UTI: Will a UTI Go Away on its Own?
While the body can resolve minor infections without the assistance of medicine, for any serious UTIs, antibiotics are highly recommended.
If a UTI goes untreated the infection can spread from the urethra and bladder up into the kidneys.
Here, it becomes a much more serious infection as the risk of bacteria spreading into the bloodstream increases.
UTIs in the kidneys are dangerous and in some cases considered a medical emergency. If the infection reaches the bloodstream, your condition can become fatal and you should seek medical attention immediately.
It’s for this reason that antibiotics for UTI are highly recommended.
Antibiotic Resistance and UTIs
Make sure to always complete the full course of antibiotics for UTI prescribed to you in order to prevent recurring infections and antibiotic resistance. Even if your symptoms go away, there is a possibility that some bacteria remain in the urinary tract.
By discontinuing antibiotic use too early, you allow these remaining bacteria to reproduce. However, due to their antibiotic exposure, it is likely that the new bacteria will be antibiotic resistant and result in a much worse infection that is harder to treat. This is referred to as antibiotic-resistance and it is a growing concern within the medical community.
According to a 2019 CDC report, 2.8 million people are infected with antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. This causes approximately 35,000 deaths a year. It is for this reason that patients are cautioned to continue taking their antibiotics for the remainder of the entire treatment guideline given by your doctor.
Antibiotics for UTI: Most Common Bacteria to Cause UTIs
According to a study by The National Center for Biotechnology Information, the most common bacteria that cause UTIs are:
- Escherichia coli (E Coli)
- Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Streptococcus spp. (separated apart from Streptococcus D group), Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterococci were each found to be the third pathogens in different periods during the two-year study.
These strains of bacteria are the most likely cause of any given UTI and first line antibiotics are typically highly effective.
First line antibiotics refer to the prescription your doctor gives you, based on your symptoms, before any official testing is done to determine the type of infection.
In most uncomplicated UTIs, the initial antibiotic for UTI will cure the infection and further testing is not needed.

Side Effects of Antibiotics for UTI
As with any medication, antibiotics do carry a risk of side effects. The most common side effects associated with antibiotics for UTI treatment include:
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Nausea
- Rash
- Tendon or nerve damage
- Vomiting
To learn more about the side effects of antibiotics for UTI talk to your doctor about the known risks of the specific antibiotic they prescribe.
Is Amoxicillin Good for UTIs?
If you’ve taken antibiotics before, you may have heard of the very popular drug Amoxicillin.
But, can Amoxicillin treat a UTI?
No, while amoxicillin is a very common antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, it is not an antibiotic for UTI treatment.
How Can I Get Instant Relief From A UTI?
Because most UTIs are bacterial, antibiotics for UTI treatment are the fastest way to get rid of a UTI and get relief.
Not just any antibiotic will cure your UTI. Some antibiotics are processed in a way that they never even reach the urinary tract. Other antibiotics may be equipped to fight off another type of bacteria, but not the one causing your UTI.
So, how do you know which antibiotic for UTI treatment is best for you?
The two most important questions you and your doctor need to consider are:
- What is the most likely bacteria causing the infection?
- What antibiotic is known to combat that bacterium?
With this, you doctor will prescribe you an antibiotic for UTI treatment and you should start feeling better in a few days.
What Happens If Antibiotics Don’t Work For a UTI?
If you’ve taken antibiotics for UTI for several days and see no improvement with your UTI, there are two common possibilities:
- The antibiotic may be ineffective at fighting off the bacteria causing your UTI.
- Your infection may not be bacterial.
At this point you should contact your doctor to discuss a different treatment plan. It is likely that you will be referred to a lab for urine testing. Your urine sample will be checked for different types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi that could be causing your UTI.
Your lab results should be back within two to three days, at which point the doctor can give you a new treatment plan for your specific infection.
If your UTI does not go away or comes back soon after treatment, you are suffering from chronic UTIs.
For those that wish to treat their UTI without using antibiotics or who want extra relief while taking antibiotics, there are many natural remedies that can help your body fight off a UTI.
Antibiotics for UTI vs Home Remedies for UTI
Are there UTI treatments without antibiotics? While antibiotics are the most common and effective treatment for UTIs, natural remedies are an increasingly popular way to treat such infections without antibiotics.
It is important to consult a doctor to determine which treatment approach is best for you.
Below are some common at-home UTI treatment options that can help relieve symptoms:
- Drink plenty of water to flush the bacteria from your system.
- Get plenty of vitamin C to make your urine more acidic, which makes it less hospitable for bacteria.
- Use a heating pad to reduce pelvic pain.
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, spicy food, nicotine, carbonated drinks, and artificial sweeteners because they can irritate your bladder.
- There is no evidence or proof that drinking pure, unsweetened cranberry juice can help prevent or treat UTIs; however, this is still a commonly used home remedy.
- Urinate as frequently as possible to eliminate bacteria from your urinary tract.
- Wear loose clothing and cotton underwear to prevent bacteria-loving moisture from building up.
- Quit smoking to improve your immune system.
- Wipe from front to back to prevent spreading bacteria.
- Avoid using scented feminine products since they can lead to infections.
In addition to these lifestyle changes, PlushCare recommends that you meet with a licensed physician to ensure you receive proper treatment, including any necessary antibiotics for UTI treatment.

How to fall asleep quickly – in 10 seconds, 1 and 2 minutes
Spending more time trying to sleep than sleeping? You are not alone. Effort only creates an anxiety state that prevents the brain from relaxing. And if the brain is not going to sleep, then it is difficult for the body to resist it. But there are scientifically proven tricks that can help you safely shut down your body in seconds. Let’s talk about some of them.
On the picture

double pillow.
The military method, or How to fall asleep in 10 seconds
Note: the technique described below takes 120 seconds, but, according to observations, it is the last 10 seconds that are decisive.
Lloyd Winter’s book Relax and Win: Championship Performance refers to a US Navy pre-flight school program that helps pilots fall asleep in two minutes or less. It took six weeks of practice to practice the skill, but then it worked even after a cup of coffee or heard nearby shots. They say the method helps even those who have to sleep while sitting.
Instruction
1.Relax your entire face, including your mouth muscles.
2. Lower your shoulders to release tension. Leave your hands hanging quietly at your sides.
3. Exhale and relax your chest.
4. Relax your legs, hips and calves.
5. Imagine something peaceful and don’t think about anything else for the next 10 seconds.
6. If the previous point does not work, say the words “don’t think” over and over again for 10 seconds.
7. Here you should already sleep.
Didn’t it work the first time? Then you have to practice breathing correctly and relaxing your muscles for a while. In addition, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and increased anxiety can affect the effectiveness of the method. Don’t despair, we have some more tips.
Breathing and muscle relaxation, or How to fall asleep in 60 seconds
The next two techniques focus on breathing and muscles, allowing you to get away from the thoughts in your head and return to sleep. For beginners, they may take a little longer, with practice, the effectiveness increases.
Breathing method 4-7-8
Note: If you have a respiratory condition like asthma or COPD, check with your doctor to avoid aggravating your symptoms.
Instruction
1. Prepare: Raise the tip of your tongue to the palate behind your two front teeth.Keep it there throughout the entire exercise.
2. Part your lips slightly and exhale through your mouth with a whistling sound.
3. Close your lips and inhale quietly through your nose, counting to four silently.
4. Hold your breath for seven seconds.
5. Exhale with a whistle for a count of eight.
6. Repeat four times. Don’t get hung up on the precision of execution, try to do it mindlessly.Allow your body to fall asleep if you feel that relaxation has come earlier than expected.
On the picture

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)
The point is to tense and then relax the muscles. Exercise helps to achieve calmness throughout the body. Before you start, use Method 4-7-8, visualizing the tension leaving the body as you exhale.
Instruction
1. Raise your eyebrows as high as possible for 5 seconds.
2. Then lower and feel the tension go away. Wait 10 seconds.
3. Smile broadly to feel the tension in your cheeks. Hold this facial expression for 5 seconds and relax.
4. Pause for 10 seconds.
5. Squint with your eyes closed.Hold for 5 seconds and relax.
6. Pause 10 seconds.
7. Tilt your head back slightly so that it is comfortable to look at the ceiling. Hold for 5 seconds and then relax and lower your neck to the pillow.
8. Pause for 10 seconds.
9. Continue to tense and relax the muscles in the same pattern, moving downward – from triceps to chest, from thighs to feet.
ten.Allow yourself to fall asleep, even if you do not have time to reach the end.
As you exercise, focus on how relaxed and heavy your body feels when you feel good and comfortable.
Heavy Artillery, or How to Sleep in 120 Seconds
If the previous methods didn’t work, try these.
Forbid yourself to fall asleep
Surprisingly, such a paradoxical intent can be a good way.For those with insomnia, trying to sleep increases anxiety levels. As soon as you stop forcing yourself, you relax and fall asleep.
Imagine a quiet place
If counting is too active in your brain, try using your imagination. In a 2002 study, Oxford University staff found that people who did this fell asleep faster than those who simply tried to relax and received no direction.
Instruction
Instead of counting sheep, try to imagine a peaceful environment and associated sensations, such as a waterfall, rushing water, echo, wet moss smell. It is important that this image is imprinted in your brain and replaces a kaleidoscope of thoughts and worries.
Acupressure
There isn’t enough research yet to say that acupressure works 100%.However, this is a very promising technique.
One method is to apply pressure to areas where you feel particular tension (upper nose bridge, temples). There is also a set of exercises for insomnia. Some of them can be done in a lying position.
“Spiritual Gate”
1. Find a small dimple in your wrist from the inside of your little finger.
2.Press gently on it in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes.
3. Press lightly on the left side of this point (facing the palm of your hand) for a few seconds, and then hold the right side (with your palm facing away from you).
4. Repeat the manipulation with the other hand.
“Internal border gate”
1.Flip your palm over to your face and place three fingers down from the crease of your wrist.
2. Use your thumb to press evenly on this point midway between the two tendons.
3. Massage in circular motions until you feel muscle relaxation.
“Wind in the pool”
1. Place your palms together and open them to form a kind of bowl.
2. Then place your hands in this position against the base of the skull from behind so that your thumbs touch the junction of the neck and head.
3. Apply deep and firm pressure to the area, massaging it in a circular or upward motion.
4. Breathe deeply and notice how the body relaxes as you exhale.
Maximum preparation
If you have tried these methods but still cannot fall asleep within two minutes, check the following points:
– hide the clock,
– take a warm shower before bed,
– open the window to ventilate the room,
– put on your socks,
– practice gentle yoga for 15 minutes,
– put the phone away from the bed,
– arrange an aromatherapy session with lavender, chamomile or sage oils,
– Have dinner early to avoid stomach stimulation before bed.
Also, check the noise level in the bedroom: hang blackout curtains, turn on “white noise”, insert earplugs. A lot depends on the mattress, pillows and blankets. Blue Sleep products are designed in such a way as to provide the most natural anatomical position of the spine and remove excess heat. Independent springs will protect you from bumping and bouncing if your partner rolls over or stands up.
When you have followed all these recommendations and provided yourself with the most comfortable conditions, go back to the military method or breathing according to the 4-7-8 scheme – and you will see they work.

introduction of any cheat code.Cheats are designed for fun and unobtrusive gameplay, without the need to get game values in a short and tedious way, so, again, we do not recommend saving. And one more thing: you will not be able to save the game with the cheats working. That is, if you used a cheat code and saved, then the cheat will no longer work after loading the save – please re-enter it. And, of course, the codes for GTA 5 will only work in the story mode, using them in GTA Online is useless.
A Collection of Writing by James Elkins [in Russian]

James Elkins
“An instructive incident occurred between Protogen and
Apelles.Protogenes lived in Rhodes, and Apelles made a journey to Rhodes
, wishing to get acquainted with the works of Protogenes,
because this artist was known to him only by hearsay.
He immediately went to Protogen’s studio. The artist was not there
, but a considerable size
sheet was attached to the easel, ready for work. There was only one old woman in the studio, who, in response to his question, said that the artist was not at home, and
asked how to tell her who had come.
“Tell me it was this man,” – replied Apelles and,
taking a brush, drew an extremely thin colored line on the sheet
[lineam… summae tenuitatis].
When Protogen returned, the old woman showed him what happened
. The story goes on to say that the artist, looking intently at the line
, said that Apelles had visited him, because
no one else could have drawn a better line, and then he
himself, taking another paint, spent more a thinner line over
of the first [in ipsa illa] and, leaving the room, ordered the old woman to show
to her visitor if he returned, and to say that this was the person
he was looking for.
And so it happened. Apelles returned and, ashamed that
had beaten him, drew another line, the third color, dividing the previous two [tertio colore lineas secuit], leaving
no more room for an even thinner line. Later, Protogen
admitted that he had been defeated and rushed down to the harbor to
to find a visitor. He decided that the drawing should be passed on to
posterity in the same form, so that everyone, and especially the artisans
, should admire and admire it.
I was informed that the drawing burned down during the first
fire that happened in Caesar’s palace on the Palatine. Until
this he was greatly admired, because on the surface of the
one hundred there was nothing but almost invisible lines [nihil aliced
continantem quam lineas visum e ff ugientes], therefore, among the outstanding
works of many artists, it looked like an empty
wandering, and by this very fact he attracted attention and price
more than any other masterpiece ”20.
Like Pliny’s other stories, this one has attracted so much
attention in the two thousand years since it was written,
that it almost disappeared under a pile of commentaries21. By many

New translation of the book “The Kid and Carlson”
A new translation of “Three stories about Malysh and Karlson who lives on the roof” has been released. Through the efforts of Eduard Uspensky, the classic tale went beyond the bounds of good and evil.
The reports leaked to the press that the writer Eduard Uspensky undertook to make a new translation of Carlson Who Lives on the Roof, caused a heated discussion, most of all reminiscent of swearing. It would seem – well, what happened so terrible? We publish a whole bunch of translations of Carroll’s “Alice”, and this does not bother anyone. And with the same Carlson, the classic translation of Lilianna Lungina is by no means a monopoly – there is at least a version of Lyudmila Braude. What is the commotion about?
Perhaps the whole point is in how Eduard Nikolayevich announced his plans – this is what he said in that memorable interview: “The translations we know are very softened, but the times are not the same now.I set myself the goal of making the translation more daring. This does not mean that I will change the plot. It’s just that the language will be more modern. For example, in one of the episodes in old translations, the Kid says to Carlson: “My mom and dad won’t recognize you.” It means that for the parents of Kid Carlson does not exist, he is a fiction.
And I will translate this phrase like this: “They think you are a glitch.”
Modern children know this word. Therefore, when Carlson replies: “I’m not a glitch, I’m real,” everyone immediately understands everything. “
It sounds, of course, scary, but the reason for such a friendly “fu!”, I think, is not even “modernization”. Even if Eduard Nikolayevich had learned Swedish perfectly and kissed the earth, promising a careful attitude to the original source, he would still be shocked with the same enthusiasm. Because the main reason is that nobody needs a new translation of Carlson for free. Even brilliant.
How so? – you ask. – But what about “the more, the better” and “let all the flowers bloom?”
And like this.”Carlson” is a crystal fairy tale of our childhood, and do not pull your paws to it.
But seriously: have you ever wondered why different translations of the same books are done? This usually happens in three cases. Sometimes – when the existing translation really becomes utterly archaic and no longer corresponds to the norms of the language, like the pre-revolutionary novel “Ivango”, now known as “Ivanhoe”.
The second case is when the work is de facto “copy protected”.That is, it is written by the author in such a way that it is not possible to make an adequate copy in a foreign language; in fact, you have to compose the text anew. Poems, for example. Or prose, oversaturated with linguistic games. It seems that there is no need to explain why in our children’s literature the maximum number of translations into Russian from “Alice in Wonderland”? Granstrem, Rozhdestvenskaya, Soloviev, Chekhov, Demurova, Olenich-Gnenenko, Zakhoder, Nabokov, Nesterenko, Starilov, Kononenko – and that’s not all.
Well, and the third case is when several translations appear almost simultaneously, each of them gains admirers, and none of them becomes “canonical”.So, for example, we have happened with “The Lord of the Rings” by Tolkien.
But with Carlson, the situation is completely different. Lungina’s translation came out in the mid-60s, it was very successful and quickly became classical and generally accepted. Almost three generations grew up on it, and half a century of monopoly has led to the fact that “the topic is closed.” By the way, this is a quite common story – for example, who remembers that besides the classic Zaaterov’s Winnie the Pooh, there are also translations of Viktor Weber or the Mikhailov / Rudnev tandem?
We will not accept other translations, if only because we do not just like Lungina’s “Carlson” – it has grown into us.
Words and expressions from this translation entered the Russian language, settled there, settled down, and it is almost impossible to drive them out of there. It is impossible to translate the Kid, for example, “Tiny” – they will not understand, sir, and the book “Tiny and Carlson” will settle like a dead weight in the warehouses of the publishing house. Likewise, we will never accept any alternative for “calm, only calm”. These are stable expressions of the Russian language. Dostoevsky enriched our language with the word “to be effaced”, Lungin – “a house-tormentor.”
It is no coincidence that the translation of Braude, which appeared several years ago, was simply ignored by the reading public, although it was closer to the original source.Well, what self-respecting person will read a book, where instead of “housewife” – “housewife”? And you can break yourself into a cake, proving that the surname “Bock” is translated from Swedish as “goat”, and Braude’s play on words is much closer to that of the original – all your efforts will go to the forest.
Why then entrust the new translation to Ouspensky?
Eduard Nikolaevich himself, in one of his interviews, ingenuously explained it this way: “In fact, I have written many good books, it’s just that publishers prefer to publish the very best hits. And I have, for example, the book “False Dmitry”, which was written for five whole years. Or stories about Toad Zhabych Skovorodkin, and much more. Recently I sold myself to one publisher with only one condition: it must publish all my books. And soon they will appear, probably about twenty at a time. Now I am translating Carlson. I know, I know, the translation of this story already exists, and the translation is wonderful. But, apparently, the publishing house, which I am now a pocket author, decided not to mess with the rights to it.So he handed me an interlinear translation, over which I am sitting with pleasure. ”
This explanation, of course, has the right to life, but, I think, the point is not only and not so much in this. The very idea of combining the brand names “Lindgren” and “Uspensky” on one cover is too tempting not to try to implement it, having all the possibilities for this.
And so it happened: recently a book appeared in bookstores “Carlson from the Roof or the Best Carlson in the World”, the authors of which are Astrid Lindgren and Eduard Uspensky on the cover.
Now, finally, you can not make assumptions, but see for yourself what the desire “to make the translation more daring” has resulted in. For a start – about the good. Despite the advances, there is no “glitch” in the book, it was replaced by a “mirage”. Well, as the anecdote announcer used to say, enough of the good.
In a nutshell, Ouspensky’s translation is not just terrible – it is generally beyond the bounds of good and evil.
To begin with – “modernization” did not work out. Despite all Ouspensky’s assurances about the need to clean up outdated words incomprehensible to modern children, he himself on the very first pages of the Lungin “Bethan shouted to him” Wipe your nose! ” replaces her own “Sister Bettan said,” You sniff like old grandfather did with galoshes. “Well, God bless them, with galoshes, but a little later Fillet pushes Rull out into the hallway – this is in the apartment – and here parents cannot do with a banal reference.
Secondly, the translator’s attempts to imitate modern jargon cause not even irritation, but pity, since they are sustained in the style of “two Zhigans fled from the Odessa kichman”: “I feel I am inclined to arrange a little naughty” more “,” but you can cheat with the firemen? “. The apotheosis, of course, is Carlson’s song, which replaced the classic:
Let everything around
Burn with fire,
And we will sing with you:
Ooty, boss, busse, bass,
Biss, and we will rest …
In the new version, it sounds quite unexpected, one might even say – boldly:
To make the shots rattle and have fun,
Tots-tots-perverts, grandma is healthy.
And two dozen chubby girls would come to me,
Tots-tots-perverts, eating stewed fruit …
Third, the translator’s consistent implementation of the principle “let it be as you please, but not like Lungina’s” gives rise to nightmarish linguistic monsters and “calmness only calmness” is not the worst thing.
In addition, the translator is constantly rushing about, unable to withstand the pressure of his own creativity, and cannot stop at any one option. A kid, for example, even in one sentence can be called both “Kid” and “Brother”, which, of course, is closer to the original lillebror – “little brother”, but does not add to the whole translation. And so in everything: now “a man at his best age”, then “a man in his best years.” Most unlucky was the “everyday business”, which, within a few pages, mutates from a “trifling business” into a “trifling business”, then into a “empty business”, “an old-fashioned business” and “everyday business”. Accordingly, the “housemaker” is replaced in shifts by the “goat goat”, domestic Kozlotur, Kozlotetya, Kozloturishcha and other “domestic animals”.
The translator who took up the modernization of “Carlson” can be reproached in many ways, except for one thing.Ouspensky cannot be suspected of simply rewriting the existing translations, and not translating from an interlinear translation. The presence of an interlinear translation is confirmed not only by gratitude to Alla Rüdstedt and Yulia Smirnova, who compiled it, but also by much more weighty evidence:
“I will teach you shame! – shouted Froken Bok. – I will lock you with a key and hide the key so that you cannot go out into the kitchen for a while. And she looked at her wristwatch. ”
“Thank you, very kind! – said the malicious Kid.- So I’m not locked up anymore?
– No, no more! – said Fröken and went to the door. She tried to turn the door handle — first once, then again. The door would not open. Then she pounced on the door with all her weight. It didn’t help – the door was and remained closed. ”
“Poor one who lost his purse,” said the Kid. He was probably worried.
– How! – Carlson confirmed. “But if you are a cart driver, be kind, keep an eye on your things.”
I think that’s enough. We can only remind parents of the need to be vigilant in the bookstore, and we address the publishing house a classic phrase from a book that has become a proverb.
The one that, in Ouspensky’s “translation,” sounds like “To action! Think it over before it’s too late. In your shamelessly expensive buns, there is a clear lack of cinnamon! ”

Update: 1.07a
– Fixed sun glare bug that occurred when switching between foggy weather (c821e) and other weather conditions.
– Reduced the blue tint of celestial rays used during foggy weather (c821e) at night.
– The orange horizon at night in clear weather (81a) is no longer orange. This orange horizon was intentional, but many considered it a mistake, so I removed it.
Changelog
Update: 1.07
– Overall, the likelihood of rainy weather has been reduced (may require longer testing, it is difficult to say at this time how big the impact of this change is). If you don’t see any difference, try toggling seasonal effects off and then on will update the odds.
– Increased weather volatility, which means the weather will change more often.
– Reduced the intensity of the lightning flash as much as possible, further reduction will need to be done by reducing the intensity of the so-called “godrays” during storms (they greatly increase the intensity of lightning)
– Added the ability to adjust the effect of reducing sunlight with different intensity levels (OFF, 33%, 66%, 100%)
– Decreased the volume of the thunder sound to better match other sounds in the game.
Update: 1.06
