5 Easy Ways to Get Free Baby Magazines

Getting free magazines is easy, if you know where to look. Check out these unique ways to get free magazine subscriptions … #5 is my favorite!

1. Free Baby Magazines at Doctor’s Offices

Your OB/Gyn and Pediatrician will have parenting magazines in their waiting room for you to pass the time. They might even have multiple copies to hand out to patients for free.

Many parenting magazines will have a card or leaflet inside with offers for free or cheap magazine subscriptions.

You can ask the receptionist if they have any back issues you can take home. Most of them throw out the old issues when the new ones come in. Who cares if you’re reading a magazine that’s a couple of months behind? It’s still FREE!

2. Check Your Local Libary

Your public library has the latest issues of popular baby and parenting magazines. You can read them there or check out older issues to take home.

If you want to keep the magazines, ask the librarian. Many times they have multiple copies and will be willing to let you have older issues for free.

3. Borrow or Swap with Friends

You could ask for a free gift subscription as a baby shower gift from friends or family.

If you have a friend who was a subscription, ask if you can have the magazine issue when she’s done reading it.

A fun way to score some free magazines is to host a Magazine Swap. Ask your friends to bring a stack of magazines (and maybe a snack too). Then you can trade magazines and enjoy some girl time with other Moms.

This is a formally print magazine that now operates solely online. Fitting for their name, it features health and fitness information as it relates to pregnancy, postpartum and infants.

It provides tips on exercise, nutrition, and ways to de-stress.  They also give fashion advice for moms-to-be and newly postpartum moms. In addition, there is a large section devoted to trying to conceive.

Parenting Magazines for Child of All Ages

Parents Magazine

This is one of the largest print magazines for parents in the United States. It offers scientifically backed information on the full range of child development.

They offer lots of recipes, family trip ideas, family activities, seasonal crafts, and more. While the overall audience is aimed more at mothers aged 18-35, they do offers articles outside of that range.

They have a special feature called parents IRL (in real life) that highlights a family (sometimes a celebrity but not always) with questions about their parenting style and family dynamic. The section called “Time for You” is all about self-care.

Family Circle

It is one of the longest-running circulations of print magazines on parenting in the United States. This is a lifestyle magazine with a heavy focus on the family as a whole but it does delve into topics specific to preschoolers through teenagers.

There are lots of recipes aimed at pleasing everyone in the family while not taking much time to prepare. Their website has a section specifically for articles about teenagers.

Today’s Parent

This Canadian print magazine focuses on pregnancy through the pre-teen years. Topics range from proper development (physically, emotionally and socially), to recipes and product reviews. It also offers up time-saving tips and fun activities for kids of any age.

Family Fun

Properly named, this magazine focuses on finding things to explore together with children aged 3 to 12. They give ideas for activities for families to do together including travel, crafts, cooking, holiday preparations and more, all with the goal of making great memories with your kids.

New Parent Magazine

This magazine offers information on all things from pregnancy to big kids (pre-teens). On their website, they give lots of advice. The Sleep Center offers tips and tricks for getting little ones to sleep. They also have fun extras like a milestone tracker and a Pinterest board.

One of the trickiest periods of development for parent to navigate are often the teenage years. It’s healthy to start preparing them for adulthood but they still need limits as their impulse control is not fully developed.

YTFP is a rare magazine specifically aimed at older kids and teenagers. They offer a print edition as well as an online community.

The age range for topics covers middle school through high school and into college. There are articles on how to positively address puberty, sexuality, academics, sports, college prep and more.

Hip Mama

Described as edgy and real, this magazine on alternative parenting definitely lives up to the hype. It’s been around since the 90s and covers parenting culture and politics, without apology.

The authors are not afraid to take on controversial topics, but they do try to include a bit of humor sometimes. Their audience is typically more urban and feminist parents.

There is a collection of articles available to view on their website. Featured topics include tattoos/piercings, holistic medicine, extended breastfeeding, gun control, and transgender issues.

This print magazine offers exactly what it advertises – information all about working moms. There is an emphasis on how to achieve a work-life balance and how to effectively separate work from family time.

Mothering

Priding itself on natural family living, this, formally print, now online magazine provides a bevy of guidance on things like attachment parenting, alternative [to hospital] childbirth options and natural remedies for ailments ranging from pregnancy to adolescence.

There is a section specifically for “Green Goods” with products that are organic, natural and environmentally friendly. It also hosts an online forum where members can connect directly.

Kiwi

This magazine targets all things parenting that are natural and organic. There is a print version available but they offer online access to their digital issues at no cost.

Topics cover a wide range from pregnancy to college.  Posts include subjects such as yoga, meditation, and proper nutrition. This is in addition to fun, screen-free activities for kids. They also provide an online forum for member communication.

In addition to parenting specific magazines, it is become more common for mainstream women’s magazines to cover topics that deal with conceiving, pregnancy and raising children. These titles include Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Self.

The signs of temperament that an adult will possess begin to appear in him even before he learns to speak. But how can we use this knowledge?

A person’s personality is formed under the influence of many factors. Who you are now has been influenced by your genes, your friends, the school you attended, and more.

But when exactly did your personality begin to take shape? If you are shy now, does that mean that you were like that as a child?

Most likely yes.Research shows that the behavioral tendencies that appear in a child several months after birth are closely related to his future personality.

This does not mean that a person’s character is formed at such an early age and does not change over time. Nevertheless, the main features of his personality can be discerned and tracked already in the very first days of a child’s life.

Psychologists studying children usually use the term “temperament” rather than “personality”. One of the first studies in this area was a long-term study called the New York Longitudinal Study, begun in 1950 in New York.

As part of the study, a married couple of psychologists Stella Chess and Alexander Thomas observed 133 children from birth until they reached the age of 30, and also interviewed their parents.

Based on the data obtained, scientists have proposed to identify nine fundamental aspects of the temperament of infants, including the degree of activity, mood and distraction.

They also noticed certain patterns in the assessment of some parameters, and based on them, they identified three groups of children.

It should be noted that at that time political correctness was not yet given the same importance as it is now, so these groups received the following names: children with a difficult temperament, children with a light temperament, and “slowly warming up” children.

Do these types of temperaments predetermine the future personality type of a person? A New York study found that children who had a mild or difficult temperament at the age of three tended to fall into the same groups in older adolescence.

However, researchers have not investigated the actual relationship between children’s temperament and adult personality.

In fact, psychologists who study the temperament of babies and psychologists who study personality types of adults have long had no points of contact.

The situation began to change only during the last decade. Despite the fact that it is impossible to accurately determine the type of his personality in the future by the temperament of the infant, these categories are undoubtedly related.

It is also worth noting that the systems for assessing the temperament of infants have changed over time.

Today, the original nine aspects of temperament have evolved into three broad categories (unfortunately, sometimes scientists from different psychological laboratories call them differently).

These are: “effortful control”, which describes the infant’s ability to control and concentrate (for example, to resist the temptation of an interesting toy), “negative affectivity” associated with the level of negative emotions like fear and frustration, and ” extraversion “or” dynamism “referring to the level of activity, arousal and sociability.

They were asked to rate the temperament of their children at the age of several months (an average of seven), and then re-assess the personality of the child around the age of eight based on the basic personality traits of an adult, such as extraversion and neuroticism.

By comparing these indicators, scientists have identified a number of patterns: for example, babies showed a higher the result on the scale of extraversion or dynamism (those who smiled more often, for example), at the age of eight showed a lower result on the adult scale of neuroticism (that is, they showed greater emotional stability).
