11 Icky but Interesting Facts About Poop

Let’s talk about poop. Sure, it’s not exactly dinner-party fodder, but it’s important to learn all you can about bowel movements — what’s weird, what’s normal, what’s healthy, what’s not. That’s because your poop (stool) is an important clue to your overall digestion and health: Your poop can reveal serious signs of infections, digestive problems, and even early signs of cancer, according to the gastroenterologist Anish Sheth, MD, the coauthor of the books What’s Your Poo Telling You? and What’s My Pee Telling Me?

First, even though we often take poop for granted most days, sometimes your poop (stool) is not normal at all. Here are some poop concerns many people have:

Most people have experienced diarrhea, whether from a GI virus, an allergic reaction to food in the diet or even as a result of stress or anxiety. Diarrhea is loose, watery poop. You have diarrhea if you have loose stools three or more times in one day. Acute diarrhea is diarrhea that lasts a short time. This poop problem is common and usually lasts about one or two days, but it may last longer. Then it goes away on its own. Diarrhea lasting more than a few days may be a sign of a more serious problem.

People who are constipated may experience any one or more of the following poop symptoms:

  • Difficulty passing stools
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying after defecation
  • Hard poop (stool)
  • Painful bowel movements
  • Reduced poop (stool) frequency
  • Straining with a bowel movement

The process of pooping is learned early in childhood and retains spontaneity throughout life in most people. However, some people may lose the spontaneity of pooping for a variety of reasons such as childbirth trauma, surgery, medications that slow bowel transit, or other reasons. Some common health conditions such as diabetes can weaken the nerves in the colon and result in severe constipation.

Normal poop (stools) are soft and formed (not hard or lumpy). They are passed without urgency or straining. A sudden change from a person’s normal bowel pattern should be reported to a doctor.

So, brush up on this poop (stool) trivia, and then pay attention to how often you go, how long it takes, and what the end result looks and, yes, smells like. Simply put, know your poop.

What Is Pancreatitis? Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention

Acute pancreatitis that is mild can be treated with rest and pain medication taken at home. You may have to follow a low-fat, no-alcohol pancreatitis diet, as high-fat foods and alcohol can irritate the pancreas and cause pain. Other recommended lifestyle changes could include quitting smoking and losing weight.

Depending on how severe the case is, it may require a hospital stay, where you’ll receive intravenous (IV) fluids, and possibly insulin if your blood sugar or triglyceride levels are high. If a secondary infection is discovered, you’ll be prescribed antibiotics. If gallstones are determined to be the cause, you may have to have your gallbladder removed.

In both acute and chronic pancreatitis, surgery may be needed if there is dead or infected pancreatic tissue. In chronic pancreatitis, you may also need to take medicines and vitamins due to the impaired absorption of nutrients.

Making certain lifestyle modifications can help reduce your risk for pancreatitis. This includes:

Limiting Alcohol Consumption This might even mean cutting it out entirely. The most common cause of acute pancreatitis is excessive alcohol consumption, and chronic pancreatitis most commonly is due to alcoholism.

Eating a Low-Fat Diet Avoiding fatty and fried foods can reduce your risk for gallstones, a leading cause of acute pancreatitis. High levels of triglycerides can also increase your risk for acute pancreatitis. Limiting foods high in simple sugars (sweets, sugary sodas) can help.

Exercising Regularly Being overweight increases your risk of gallstones, which puts you at greater risk for pancreatitis. But avoid crash-diets, which can cause your liver to increase cholesterol production, which in turn increases your risk for gallstones.

Not Smoking Adults who smoked were 1.5 times more likely to develop acute or chronic pancreatitis than nonsmokers, according to review of studies published in September 2019 in journal Pancreatology. (13)

9 Common Digestive Conditions From Top to Bottom

4. Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is part of a group of digestive conditions called inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Crohn’s can affect any part of the GI tract but most commonly affects the terminal ileum, which connects the end of the small bowel and the beginning of the colon. As many as 780,000 Americans may be affected by Crohn’s, according to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation (CCFA).

Doctors aren’t sure what causes the disease, but it’s thought that genetics and family history may play a part. The most common Crohn’s symptoms are abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, weight loss, and fever. “Treatment depends on the symptoms and can include topical pain relievers, immunosuppressants, and surgery,” Dr. Bamji says. Avoiding trigger foods like dairy products, carbonated beverages, alcohol, coffee, raw fruit and vegetables, red meat, and foods that are fatty, fried, spicy, or gas-producing can also help prevent flares.

5. Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is another inflammatory bowel disease that may affect as many as 907,000 Americans, according to the CCFA. The symptoms of ulcerative colitis are very similar to those of Crohn’s, but the part of the digestive tract affected is solely the large intestine, also known as the colon.

If your immune system mistakes food or other materials for invaders, sores or ulcers develop in the colon’s lining. If you experience frequent and urgent bowel movements, pain with diarrhea, blood in your stool, or abdominal cramps, visit your doctor.

Medication can suppress the inflammation, and eliminating foods that cause discomfort may help as well. In severe cases, treatment for ulcerative colitis may involve surgery to remove the colon.

6. Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Is your digestive tract irritable? Do you have stomach pain or discomfort at least three times a month for several months? It could be irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), another common digestive condition.

About 10 to 15 percent of people worldwide suffer from IBS, and of that percentage, up to 45 million people with IBS live in the United States, according to the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders. Signs of IBS can vary widely from having hard, dry stools one day to loose, watery stools on another. Bloating is also a symptom of IBS.

What causes IBS isn’t known, but treatment of symptoms centers largely on diet, such as eating low-fat, high-fiber meals and avoiding common trigger foods (dairy products, alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, and foods that produce gas). The low-FODMAP diet, which involves eliminating foods that are high in certain carbohydrates called FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols), has also been shown to reduce IBS symptoms.

Additionally, friendly bacteria, such as the probiotics found in live yogurt, may help you feel better. Stress can trigger IBS symptoms, so some people find cognitive behavioral therapy or low-dose antidepressants to be useful treatments, as well.

7. Hemorrhoids

Bright red blood in the toilet bowl when you move your bowels could be a sign of hemorrhoids, which is a very common condition. In fact, 75 percent of Americans over age 45 have hemorrhoids, according to the NIDDK.

Hemorrhoids are an inflammation of the blood vessels at the end of your digestive tract that can be painful and itchy. Causes include chronic constipation, diarrhea, straining during bowel movements, and a lack of fiber in your diet.

Treat hemorrhoids by eating more fiber, drinking more water, and exercising. Over-the-counter creams and suppositories may provide temporary relief of hemorrhoid symptoms. See your doctor if at-home treatments don’t help; sometimes a hemorrhoidectomy is needed to remove hemorrhoids surgically.

8. Diverticulitis

Small pouches called diverticula can form anywhere there are weak spots in the lining of your digestive system, but they are most commonly found in the colon. If you have diverticula but no symptoms, the condition is called diverticulosis, which is quite common among older adults and rarely causes problems. By age 50, about half of people have diverticulosis, according to the American Gastroenterological Association. But in about 5 percent of people, the pouches become inflamed or infected, a condition called diverticulitis. Symptoms include fever, chills, nausea, and abdominal pain. Obesity is a major risk factor for diverticulitis.

Mild diverticulitis is treated with antibiotics and a clear liquid diet so your colon can heal. A low-fiber diet could be the cause of diverticulitis, so your doctor may direct you to eat a diet high in fiber — whole grains, legumes, vegetables — as part of your treatment.

If you have severe attacks that recur frequently, you may need surgery to remove the diseased part of your colon.

9. Anal Fissure

Anal fissures are tiny, oval-shaped tears in the lining of the very end of your digestive tract called your anus. The symptoms are similar to those of hemorrhoids, such as bleeding and pain after moving your bowels. Straining and hard bowel movements can cause fissures, but so can soft stools and diarrhea.

A high-fiber diet that makes your stool well formed and bulky is often the best treatment for this common digestive condition. Medication to relax the anal sphincter muscles, as well as topical anesthetics and sitz baths, can relieve pain; however, chronic fissures may require surgery of the anal sphincter muscle.

What It Means When Your Poop Floats

While it may be surprising to see floating poop, it’s usually nothing to be concerned about and is often related to something you had to eat. Here are the main causes of this type of stool.

Verywell / Joshua Seong, Verywell

Excessive Gas in the Stool

Most of the time, a floating stool is the result of something you ate. If you eat something that causes gas (or eat a large meal), the gas mixes in with stool in the intestines. The extra air makes poop less dense, causing it to float when it hits the toilet bowl.

Here are some types of foods that can produce gas:

  • Apples, pears, peaches, prunes
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Asparagus, artichokes, brussels sprouts, broccoli, onions
  • Beans
  • Fruit juices
  • Honey
  • Sodas and soft drinks
  • Sugar-free candies and gum

Many of these foods contain sugars that can also cause excess gas. Prunes, apples, peaches, and sugar-free foods, for instance, contain sorbitol. Sodas, honey, and fruit juices are high in fructose.

People with lactose intolerance (a condition that commonly affects adults of African, Asian, Hispanic, and American Indian descent) may have floating poop if they consume milk and milk products. With low levels of the enzyme (lactase) needed to digest the sugar (lactose) in milk, they may have bloating and gas after consuming dairy, which can lead to floating stool.

In addition, floating stools are frequently experienced by people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

If your floating stool is caused by gas-producing food, your poop should return to normal pretty quickly after you reduce intake of the foods that bother you.

Medications and Conditions

Floating poop can also result from the use of certain medications or conditions known to disrupt the absorptive lining of the intestines (such as Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, bacterial overgrowth, cystic fibrosis, Graves’ disease, and short bowel syndrome).

Here’s a look at several conditions that can cause this type of floating stool:

  • Chronic pancreatitis: Often linked to alcoholism or gallstones, chronic pancreatitis is characterized by inflammation of the pancreas. Along with floating stool, symptoms include abdominal pain, back pain, abdominal bloating, and weight loss. It is also associated with diabetes.
  • Sclerosing cholangitis: Sometimes associated with ulcerative colitis, sclerosing cholangitis is marked by inflammation, scarring, and destruction of the bile ducts inside and outside of the liver. Symptoms may include floating stools, fatigue, itchy skin, fever/chills, jaundice, and dark urine.
  • Choledocholithiasis: This is the presence of one or more gallstones in the common bile duct. It may cause no symptoms unless the stone obstructs the bile duct. In addition to floating stools, symptoms commonly include pain in the right upper or middle upper abdomen (lasting for at least 30 minutes), fever, jaundice, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Pancreatic cancer: This is a form of cancer affecting the pancreas.

When to See Your Doctor

Stools that occasionally float shouldn’t alarm you, but some types of stool changes (particularly steatorrhea, the malabsorption of fat) may be symptoms of a condition that requires treatment.

Consult your doctor if you notice changes in your bowel habits lasting longer than two weeks or experience other symptoms (like nausea, dizziness, weight loss, abdominal pain, or fever).

Prevention and Treatment

Floating stool due to excess gas is often harmless and goes away without treatment. Since diet can play a role in the development of floating stools, it’s possible that adjusting your diet may help with this issue.

For example, some healthcare providers may suggest removing one or two foods from your diet at a time to test whether those foods may be contributing to floating stools, or keeping a record of the foods you eat and your bowel movements.

If a certain food worsens gas, you may not have to avoid it. Over-the-counter enzyme supplements are available to help digest foods such as beans and milk. Eating smaller portions can also help.

Many of the foods that can cause gas also have positive attributes. Beans, for instance, have about 10 grams of fiber per cup and are rich in antioxidants.

Instead of avoiding these foods, try eating smaller servings, spacing out your intake over the day, and considering over-the-counter enzyme supplements that help the body digest beans. Also avoid large meals, which can put extra pressure on the digestive system.

The treatment for steatorrhea depends on the underlying condition. For instance, cystic fibrosis treatment typically involves digestive enzyme supplements that are similar to those normally released by the pancreas.

A Word From Verywell

Having floating poop from time to time is quite common and often food-related. The biggest culprits are lactose in milk products, soluble fiber, or sugars in food, whether it’s raffinose in beans, fructose in fruit, or sorbitol in prunes, apples, or peaches.

If the problem appears to be regular (or you notice other symptoms), speak to your doctor. While it may be embarrassing to bring up, your doctor hears about issues like this all the time and can help identify any underlying conditions that may be responsible for your stool changes.

Floating Poop: Why Does Your Poop Float Instead Of Sink?

Your poop can tell you a lot about your health. Red in the bowl—which can signal anything from hemorrhoids to colon cancer—is a known red flag. But what if the color is just fine, but it doesn’t exactly sink to the bottom of the bowl like normal poop does?

It’s not exactly common, but we’ve all probably experienced the floating turd. So what exactly does it mean if your stool is not sinking?

“A floating stool is simply less dense than a sinking stool,” says gastroenterologist Neil Stollman, M.D. Doctors used to think this resulted from excess fat in the feces, but one study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests it’s actually extra air. Dr. Stollman says it could probably be either, though air is more likely.

Extra air in the stool could come from unabsorbed carbohydrates, like lactose or fiber, which ferment in the colon and release gas, says Dr. Stollman. This may be more likely to happen if you’re lactose intolerant or have just consumed a lot of dairy or fiber all at once. Sugary alcoholic drinks and artificial sweeteners can also make your poop gassier, says gastroenterologist Kenneth Brown, M.D.

Related: Why Drinking Booze Gives You Diarrhea

And if your poop contains more air or gas than normal, it will make it lighter—thus more likely to float on top of the water than sink to the bottom of it, like denser turds do.

Still, it’s possible that extra fat in your feces can cause it to float, too. In this case, eating more fatty food than normal is likely the culprit, says Dr. Stollman. When your intestines can’t absorb all that fat, it’s excreted through your poop.

In rarer cases, fatty, floating stools—officially known as steatorrhea—can signal that your body is unable to digest and absorb nutrients, like fat, properly. This is called malabsorption.

If there are also drops of oil in the toilet, your pancreas might not be working properly to absorb the fat you eat, says Dr. Brown. And oil in the poop itself might mean the bacteria from your small intestine are growing outside it, breaking it down before you can.

Doctors can diagnose malabsorption through a fecal fat test, which literally measures the amount of fat excreted in your stool. If your floating poop is caused by malabsorption, you will probably have other signs as well, like frequent loose stool, extremely foul-smelling stools, abdominal cramps, and gas.

Save Your Own Ass!

That said, in most cases, floating poop on its own probably doesn’t indicate any problem. “Very few people have consistent bowels,” says Dr. Stollman. Most changes are simply due to diet or medications. But if you notice a change for a month or more, talk to your doctor just to be safe (For more health stories like this, sign up for our Daily Dose newsletter).

Healthy Bowel Habits – Canyon Ranch

You’ve been taught not to bring it up in polite conversation and certainly never to discuss it at the dinner table, but understanding (and, yes, talking about) your bathroom habits is an important first step in maintaining healthy bowels.

Though your bowels help rid your body of waste, there’s so much more to them than that. They are an important part of your immune system, and they help your body regulate fluids and produce vitamins. Your colon, in particular, houses trillions of bacteria that affect metabolism and digestion. So keeping quiet about any bowel trouble you experience may have more repercussions than you ever expected. It can not only prevent you from enjoying life to the fullest, but even put you at risk for further complications or disease, like colorectal cancer.

What’s a Normal Bowel Movement?
Ideally, you should have one or two bowel movements every day. If you go less often than that, your diet may be low in fiber.

Feces should generally be smooth, soft and well-formed with a chocolate brown hue. Bowel movements should look more like a bananas than thin pencils, and while they sometimes smell, the odor shouldn’t been strongly unpleasant. You should not see any blood or mucus in the toilet or on your toilet paper after wiping, and you shouldn’t feel pain when you go.

Stools may float or sink, but ones that float tend to be indicative of healthy bowels. A high-fiber diet can make feces float, which is a good thing, but so can fat in the stool—good if you’re trying to lose weight, but not if it’s a result of malabsorption or if you don’t want to lose weight. Swallowing too much air, which is usually triggered by anxiety, can also cause stools to float.

What Can I Do to Get Regular?
If your typical behaviors fall outside of these guidelines, try the following tips to get back on track. Be patient: It may take days or weeks before you notice improvement. And speak to your doctor before trying anything that involves drastic changes to your regular routine. Embarrassed? Don’t be. Your physician hears about these issues all the time and only wants to help you feel your best.

  • Stick to a Schedule, but Don’t Force It Always respond quickly to your bathroom urges, since putting them off can cause constipation. It may be useful for people with chronic constipation to create a routine time to use the bathroom. For some, the ideal is 30 to 60 minutes after breakfast or lunch, when the intestines are in motion. Don’t rush yourself, but try not to linger on the toilet too often either, as you may risk developing hemorrhoids. Straining or pushing during a bowel movement can damage pelvic floor muscles; instead, try relaxing and opening your jaw and mouth, breathing deeply, putting your feet up on a stool or leaning forward and grasping your ankles.
  • Eat More Fiber Fiber moves through your digestive system, for the most part, as is. Once it makes it to your intestines, fiber gives stool a gel-like texture, as well as some bulk, helping it better form and pass more easily. Adults should aim for 21 to 38 grams of fiber each day, or 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories of food consumed. Reach for options like whole grain cereals and breads, produce and nuts. If you fall short, try eating more high-fiber foods such as legumes and bran, or leaving the skins and peels on vegetables and fruits. Introduce more fiber gradually to your diet to help prevent gas or bloating that you may experience if you add too much, too fast.
  • Forego Trigger Foods Try keeping a food journal to track any uncomfortable digestive symptoms and the foods that may trigger them. Common culprits include gluten, dairy, cabbage or coleslaw, fructose (a type of sugar), sorbitol (an artificial sweetener) and carbonated beverages. Once you determine which foods you react to, you can avoid them or indulge in them sparingly.
  • Drink Fluids Staying hydrated also helps soften stool, making bowel movements easier to pass. The average adult should aim for a minimum of 64 ounces (about eight glasses) of fluids each day—that can come from water, tea and even water-rich fruits, such as oranges and grapes. Naturally-sweetened juices are also good choices, just be mindful of the calories. In Ayurvedic medicine, practitioners recommend drinking warm water to promote healthy bowel movements, which you may want to try. Some people experience variations in bowel movements based on their caffeine and alcohol consumption, so just be aware of that possibility if you choose to drink either.
  • Be Predictable When it comes to your diet, there’s a benefit to being boring. Because your bowels respond best to a regular schedule, it’s helpful to have similar-size meals and snacks consistently each day. Smaller meals eaten several times daily are easier to digest than large, infrequent meals, as is food that’s eaten slowly and chewed thoroughly. Don’t eat past the point of feeling full, and avoid late-night snacking.

  • Stay Fit Regular exercise stimulates the muscles in your digestive tract, keeping food moving through your intestine at a healthy pace so you aren’t backed up. It also is an important part of maintaining a healthy weight, which helps reduce your risk of colon cancer. Aim for 30 minutes of aerobic exercise on most days of the week. Working out at roughly the same time each day will also help your body stay regular.
  • Find Ways to Relax Neurotransmitters, chemicals that transport messages throughout the body, are found in your intestines, just as they are in your brain. It makes sense, then, that anxiety and stress can play critical roles in bowel problems. Getting plenty of sleep and practicing stress management and relaxation techniques—such as deep breathing, meditation and massage—are good strategies for both a sound mind and a calm, peaceful digestive system.
  • Try Probiotics Probiotics are live microorganisms found in fermented foods like yogurt; they are also available in supplement form. They can help restore friendly bacteria in the intestines that people who suffer from diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome may lack. Probiotics may also benefit people who get the runs while taking antibiotics, since the drugs can unintentionally kill good bacteria while destroying the bad.
  • Choose OTC Remedies Wisely Laxatives, stool softeners or other over-the-counter products may help with constipation, but overuse can actually worsen your condition or lead to dependence. Instead, ask your doctor if you should try bulk-forming fiber substitutes, such as psyllium (Metamucil), polycarbophil (FiberCon) and methylcellulose (Citrucel). These may be used daily and could be especially helpful if your diet lacks proper amounts of dietary fiber.

When Should I Be Concerned?
Any sudden or persistent change in bowel habits is a good reason to see your doctor. These warning signs, in particular, can indicate that something serious may be at play:

•  Difficult or infrequent bowel movements for three weeks or more

•  Frequent loose stools, often with an urgent need to move the bowels, for more than two days

•  A chronic feeling that your bowels do not empty completely

•  Stools that are oddly shaped, such as narrow like a pencil

•  Frequent abdominal discomfort, such as gas, cramping or bloating

•  Unexplained weight loss

•  Pain before, during or after bowel movements

•  Blood or mucus in your stool

•  Chronic bowel leakage or lack of bowel control

Whether you experience bowel troubles or not, make sure that you are screened for colorectal cancer starting at age 50 (or earlier if you are at increased risk).

Get the Scoop on Poop

Statesman Journal Living Well October 2014

Your body is always communicating with you.  It gives clues about your state of health on a daily basis.
One of those clues is—you guessed it—your poop.

As awkward as it can be to think about, the consistency and color of your excrement can help you determine
if you are drinking enough water, eating the right foods, or even if you are ill.

Consistency:

Separate, Hard Lumps
This means you need to drink more water, and eat more foods that contain fiber, like fruits and vegetables. This could also be a sign of constipation, which can be caused by dehydration, lack of exercise, certain medical conditions, and other factors.

Sausage-shaped, but Lumpy
You’re a little better off than the hard lumps, but you could still stand to increase your intake of water and fiber—experts recommend 25 grams of fiber per day for women and 38 per day for men.

Sausage-shaped, with Cracks on Surface
Your poop is closer to normal, but the cracks indicate you could still use more water.

Sausage-shaped, Smooth and Soft
This is poop’s normal consistency. This is what you’re aiming for!

Soft Blobs with Clear Edges
This can be normal if you tend to poop multiple times per day.

Fluffy Pieces with Ragged Edges
This can mean you are on the way to diarrhea.

Watery with No Solid Pieces
Also known as diarrhea, this is usually caused by infection. Diarrhea helps your body to clear out the infection. Make sure to drink lots of water to regain the liquids you’re losing.

Soft and Sticky
This reflects the presence of too much oil, and could mean that your body is not absorbing fats correctly. Certain diseases such as chronic pancreatitis can cause this. It would be a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor, especially if you notice spots of oil in the toilet water after you go.

Color:

Brown
This is normal. Poop is naturally brown due to bile from your liver.

Green
This is an indication that food is moving too quickly through your large intestine, or that you have eaten a lot of green vegetables lately. In general, it is not a cause for concern.

Yellow
If your poop is this color, greasy, and more foul-smelling than usual, it indicates excess fat, which can be due to a malabsorption disorder like celiac disease. Make an appointment with your doctor.

Black
This can mean that you have eaten something with bismuth, such as Pepto-Bismol, or it could also indicate bleeding in your small intestine or your stomach. It may be a good idea to set up a visit with your doctor, especially if the poop is sticky.

Light-colored, White, or Clay-colored
If this is out of the norm for you, it could mean an obstruction in your bile duct. Some medicines could also cause this, but a call to your doctor would be prudent.

Blood-stained or Red
Blood in your stool is almost always cause for concern. If the poop is bright red, you may be bleeding from your large
intestine or from your rectum. It can be a symptom of cancer or other serious conditions. See your doctor right away.

Common Misconceptions:

Daily Pooping
Many people believe that pooping once a day is the norm. However, doctors advise that you should pay more attention to how consistent your pooping schedule is, rather than how frequent it is. Normal schedules range from three times per day to three times per week. None of these is cause for concern if it is normal for you, unless the schedule suddenly changes, either in favor of more frequent or less frequent pooping.

Sinker or Floater
Some sources will insist that poop should sink and that floating stools are an indication of malapsorption.  However, whether it sinks or floats usually depends on how much gas it contains, and is not typically a cause for concern.

Passing Gas
Worried that you often feel the need to pass gas?  Actually, this is very normal. While sometimes embarrassing, it is a natural function of the body, which occurs as food is being digested in your large intestine.

Immediate Consequences
Many people believe that eating certain food items will cause immediate problems with their stool.   For example, “Oh, I can’t eat pickles – they give me diarrhea within an hour!”  In actuality, food takes 3 days to digest and make its way into your toilet, so the culprit is more likely to be something you ate days ago.

As you can see, a quick peek in the toilet after you go can give you some helpful insight into your health. Pay attention to what your body is telling you, and visit your doctor if you have any concerns. Remember, your colon should also be scoped out by a specialist or a general surgeon when you reach age 50–even earlier if your family members have a history of colon cancer or polyps.  An ounce of prevention in this case is worth more than a pound of the cure.

90,000 Why doesn’t shit sink? | bazara0.com

Perhaps, there is no person who would not hear the expression “shit doesn’t sink in water”. And many people wondered why poop doesn’t sink? And is this really so, do they really not drown, or do they drown? Let’s paraphrase the saying about gold and say this – not all shit is that doesn’t sink. Some poop sinks right away. In fact, the topic is quite serious and we recommend that you familiarize yourself with it. In this article, we will answer what affects the buoyancy of shit and why it sinks or does not sink.

Doesn’t all the poop sink?

If you want to use your poop as a lifeline, you won’t get far. Any turd will sink over time. One shit floats for a while and drowns over time, and the other drowns immediately after a bowel movement. The behavior of your excrement in water can tell a lot about your health.

Interesting fact!
American scientists conducted a study in which they determined that freshly shit floats for 5 hours! After this time, the pores are filled with water, and it drowns or dissolves in water.

There are three types of poo buoyancy:

– a turd floats on the surface of the water surface;
– swims a little in a submerged state;
– drowns immediately after a bowel movement.

Advice!
After you poop, watch your poop to see if it drowns or not. Since their buoyancy can indicate your health status.

Digested food from the stomach enters the intestines in liquid form. There is the formation of feces. The intestinal wall absorbs fluids from digested food. Also, a huge number of bacteria live in the intestine, which, when interacting with feces, release gases. Thus, our poop is enriched with gases and has a kind of porous structure. This is exactly what affects the buoyancy of the poop. In particular, this also affects the odor of feces. The output is a mass consisting of solid, liquid and gaseous elements.

Shit floats on the surface of the water

If your excrement floats on the surface of the water like polystyrene, then this may indicate a high content of fat in it.In turn, this can signal problems of absorption and breakdown of fats, which occurs with liver disease, intestines, increased peristalsis. Of course, such feces may not always signal diseases. Perhaps this is a consequence of taking medications, for example, antibiotics. But if you notice this and this continues for a significant period of time, then you should consult a doctor. Do not self-medicate. The first signs appear precisely in the feces, but the remaining signs of the disease begin to appear already with a progressive disease that will be difficult to treat.

Excessive buoyancy of feces can manifest itself when it is excessively enriched with gases. This is due to the increased production of gases by intestinal bacteria. This is due both to the characteristics of the food taken, and may indicate the presence of intestinal infections.

Note!
Poop’s buoyancy is also influenced by the food you eat. Foods that cause increased gas production will lead to more buoyant feces.

Flooded turd – a symbol of your health

The ideal poop should float in a slightly submerged state, this is how healthy feces float. It’s worth noting that the buoyancy of shit is not the only metric to look out for. Healthy poop should not only swim properly, but also have the appropriate color, consistency and odor.

Why does the stool sink?

If you notice that your turd goes to the bottom immediately after birth, then this is also a sign of abnormality. A rapidly sinking stool indicates that your body has a large amount of toxins, and possibly high cholesterol levels.Your feces begin to sink when your body’s cholesterol levels are more than 1.5 times high.

Toxins in your body can be caused by low-quality foods, usually poultry, eggs, dairy, meat and seafood. Before preparing such products, subject them to careful processing and inspection, taking into account the fact that they are not stored in the best conditions in stores.

As you can see, our feces can give a lot of information about the state of our health. But keep in mind that the buoyancy of shit is not the only factor indicating the presence of any disease. You should also include the color, consistency, and stench of your faeces. We wish you a strong and healthy stool.

With relief!

In Russia, probably, there is no person who would not hear the expression “shit doesn’t sink in water”.And many people wondered why poop doesn’t sink? And is this really so, do they really not drown, or do they drown? Let’s paraphrase the saying about gold and say this – not all shit is that doesn’t sink. Some poop sinks right away. In fact, the topic is quite serious and we recommend that you familiarize yourself with it. In this article, we will answer what affects the buoyancy of shit and why it sinks or does not sink.

Doesn’t all the poop sink?

If you want to use your poop as a lifeline, you won’t get far.Any turd will sink over time. One shit floats for a while and drowns over time, and the other drowns immediately after a bowel movement. The behavior of your excrement in water can tell a lot about your health.

Interesting fact!

American scientists conducted research in which they determined that freshly shit floats for 5 hours! After this time, the pores are filled with water, and it drowns or dissolves in water.

There are three types of poo buoyancy:

  • Turd floats on the surface of the water surface.
  • Swims a little in a submerged state.
  • Drowns immediately after stool.

Tip!

If your excrement floats on the surface of the water like polystyrene, then this may indicate a high content of fat in it. In turn, this can signal problems of absorption and breakdown of fats, which occurs with liver disease, intestines, increased peristalsis.Of course, such feces may not always signal diseases.

Note!

The buoyancy of poop is also influenced by the food you eat. Foods that cause increased gas production will lead to more buoyant feces.

Flooded turd is a symbol of your health

The ideal poop should float in a slightly submerged state, this is how healthy feces float. It’s worth noting that the buoyancy of shit is not the only metric to look out for. Healthy poop should not only swim properly, but also have the appropriate color, consistency and odor.

Why does the feces sink?

If you notice that your turd goes to the bottom immediately after birth, then this is also a sign of abnormality. A rapidly sinking stool indicates that your body has a large amount of toxins, and possibly high cholesterol levels.Your stool begins to sink when your body’s cholesterol levels are more than 1.5 times high.

Relief!

Possibilities of early diagnosis of colorectal cancer Medvestnik

Men get colon cancer 1.5-2 times less often than women, but rectal cancer, on the contrary, 1.5 times more often. The incidence of rectal cancer in the urban population is higher than in the rural population. Populations over 40 are believed to be at greater risk of rectal cancer. However, recently in the oncological department of the N.N. N.N. Blokhin receives many young patients (30-40 years). Scientists believe that, given the large contingent of the population to be examined, it is advisable to limit as much as possible the circle of persons subject to regular preventive medical examinations, forming risk groups.

There is a correlation between the incidence of colorectal cancer and dietary habits in economically developed countries. It has been found that excessive administration of animal fat affects the level of bile acids in the body, which are potential carcinogens and co-carcinogens, i.e. change the activity of certain intestinal microflora, which begins to produce carcinogenic substances. Food containing coarse fiber, antioxidant complexes of vitamins, according to some authors, performs a protective function in relation to the occurrence of colorectal cancer and can be used for its prevention.

Despite the improvement of methods of examination of patients with the use of X-ray diagnostic and endoscopic equipment, the expansion of the network of well-equipped diagnostic centers, so far it has not been possible to significantly improve the situation with the early detection of colorectal cancer: patients are admitted to hospitals mainly with III-IV stages of the disease.

Analyzing the materials of the Moscow Cancer Registry, we were convinced that over 50% of patients with colon cancer in Moscow end up in general surgical hospitals due to the emergence of formidable complications of the underlying disease: acute colonic obstruction, tumor perforation and peritonitis, where they receive emergency surgical care for health reasons. and not always in the required volume, and also remain without specific anticancer treatment.

A similar picture is observed with CRC.In most cases, its late diagnosis is due to the fact that CRC does not manifest itself for a long time, moreover, after 50 years, as a rule, there is a bouquet of chronic diseases, against this background, many do not notice the disease. Unfortunately, there are no symptoms specific to colorectal cancer.

Currently, the following main risk factors and symptoms are known, which can serve as a guideline for a timely diagnosis:

1) age after 50-55 years,
2) family history of oncology,
3) flatulence, unstable stools (constipation alternating with diarrhea), stool character (“sheep”, “ribbon”),
4) admixture of blood and mucus in the feces,
5) pains of an uncertain nature and localization in the abdomen,
6) weakness, increased fatigue,
7) a feeling of incomplete emptying of the intestines during bowel movements, etc.d.

Many years ago, Duquesne proposed a scheme for the symptom complex of colon cancer in the form of the “right” and “left” half syndrome.

When the tumor is located in the right ascending part of the colon, in addition to general discomfort, the leading symptom is a decrease in the level of hemoglobin in the blood due to constant undercutting from the tumor (at the same time, patients note the raspberry color of feces). The patients themselves often do not attach importance to such symptoms as fatigue, weakness, frequent dizziness, loss of appetite, explaining them by general fatigue, nervous and physical overload, etc.etc., and only when relatives pay attention to the grayish tint of the patient’s skin, he first comes to the doctor.

A formal examination in a polyclinic often does not reveal the true cause of the disease. The patient is usually diagnosed with chronic gastritis, and doctors attribute the decrease in hemoglobin levels to iron deficiency anemia. Appropriate treatment is started, which brings relief for a while, but the disease continues to develop and progress.

When the tumor is located in the colon on the right, under the liver, patients often note dull aching pain and heaviness in the right hypochondrium, which is very characteristic of chronic calculous or non-calculous cholecystitis. It does not occur to the patient or the doctors to examine the colon.

When the tumor is located in the transverse part of the colon and left hypochondrium (i.e. in the projection of the stomach, pancreas, spleen), pain is often mistaken for manifestations of gastritis, pancreatitis. And again the colon remains in the shadows.

For tumors of the left half of the colon (descending colon and sigmoid colon), constipation is characteristic. Many people suffer from constipation for many years and get used to this ailment, so they do not immediately pay attention to the increase in their duration (over 3 days).Knowing that they have chronic colitis, patients resort to self-medication, various diets, etc., but they go to the doctor with a significant delay, often end up in the surgical department of a hospital with symptoms of acute intestinal obstruction caused by a tumor.

Clinical symptoms of CRC

A rectal tumor has its own symptoms, and the degree of its manifestation is determined by the size, degree of invasion, the form of growth and localization of the tumor, as well as the accompanying complications and the nature of metastasis. As the tumor grows and metastasizes, the symptoms of the disease become more and more varied, and the degree of their severity increases. Despite the great variety, there are no symptoms that are pathognomonic and specific only for colorectal cancer.

Primary symptoms

Blood in the stool initially appears as streaks. As the tumor grows and becomes traumatized, the amount of blood secreted may increase. At the same time, the blood is dark or black (altered), almost always mixed with feces or preceded by feces. In the later stages of the disease, it may acquire a fetid odor or be excreted in the form of blood clots.

Pure mucus in rectal cancer is very rarely excreted. More characteristic is the secretion of mucus streaked with blood, often with blood secretions or (at later stages) with an admixture of purulent-bloody fluid or pus with a fetid odor.

With the growth of the tumor, the local symptoms become more pronounced: the discharge of blood from the rectum increases, clots often appear, however, as a rule, profuse bleeding does not occur. The form of feces may change – ribbon-like feces, a feeling of a foreign body appears in the rectum.

Secondary symptoms appear when the tumor reaches a significant size, pathogenetically caused by narrowing of the rectal lumen and wall stiffness, in rare cases they are the first and only symptoms of the disease. With cancer localized in the intraperitoneal (rectosigmoid) part of the rectum, symptoms of obstructive intestinal obstruction of varying severity, up to complete, prevail.First of all, this is a violation of the passage of feces through the intestines: constipation, bloating, rumbling, increased peristalsis, in advanced cases accompanied by spastic pain in the abdomen. Often persistent constipation is replaced by periodic diarrhea. The mechanism of this phenomenon is associated with the fact that dense feces do not pass through the narrowed lumen of the rectum, which in turn leads to a decrease in water absorption, an increase in secretory activity and an increase in the motility of the large intestine. With this false diarrhea, the solid part of the stool does not pass through the tumor canal and gradually accumulates in the large intestine above the tumor.Without treatment, obstructive intestinal obstruction, bowel perforation above the tumor from hyperextension and, as a result, fecal peritonitis may develop.

In cancer of the ampullar rectum, complete intestinal obstruction is extremely rare due to the width of the lumen. For this localization, along with the symptoms of partial colonic obstruction, a sensation of incomplete emptying of the rectum after defecation is characteristic, due to the presence of a large tumor in the intestine.

With a significant narrowing of the lower ampullar section of the rectum with a tumor, a number of patients have frequent (up to 15-20 times a day) painful urge to defecate – tenesmus, while nothing is released from the rectum, or only liquid feces with pathological impurities, and then in small quantities. This tumor, like a foreign body, stimulates feces in the rectum, and a defecation reflex is triggered, but solid feces do not pass through the narrowed intestine and, despite stools up to 20 times a day, the patient has symptoms of incomplete obstruction.

When a tumor grows into the intestinal wall and grows into adjacent structures and organs, along with the above symptoms, others appear. A tumor located in the lower rectum can spread to the anal canal, to the retrorectal space, to the prostate gland in men, and to the vagina in women. In these cases, patients may experience pain in the anal canal, coccyx, sacrum, and even in the lumbar region. Men may have difficulty urinating.

In cancer of the upper ampullar and rectosigmoid rectum in men, the tumor can grow into the wall of the bladder. Clinical manifestations in this case occur only with the formation of a rectovesical fistula. In such patients, fever is noted in connection with the development of an ascending urinary tract infection. When urinating through the urethra, gases are released, sometimes feces. The opposite picture may be noted: urine excretion through the rectum, sometimes both are present. In women, during germination into the uterus, clinical manifestations do not occur. With the germination of the posterior wall of the vagina, a rectovaginal fistula may form, while feces and gases are released from the vagina.

General symptoms – a violation of the general condition of patients: weight loss, weakness, decreased ability to work, fatigue, anemia, an earthy complexion, decreased turgor and dry skin – occur only with a widespread tumor process, at the initial stages the condition practically does not change.

Diagnostic Methods

Unfortunately, in a number of cases the doctors who are referred to by the patient about the discharge of blood during defecation limit themselves to stating this fact, diagnose “bleeding hemorrhoids” and prescribe appropriate treatment.

Digital examination allows timely diagnosis of the majority of rectal tumors. According to our data, an erroneous diagnosis of hemorrhoids in colorectal cancer was diagnosed by the outpatient surgeons in 90% of cases.

Still, it should be noted that the oncological alertness of doctors at polyclinics and diagnostic centers has grown significantly over the past 30 years.Earlier, in the 70s, the proportion of medical errors was 10.8% (now – 1.7%), the duration of the examination from the moment of the first visit to the doctor was reduced by 8 times.

Compared to 2001, the increase in the absolute number of newly diagnosed patients was 1.9 and 8.6% in men and women, respectively.
In the structure of morbidity in the male population of Russia, the first places are occupied by:

  • lung cancer (21.9%)
  • stomach cancer (10.8%)
  • non-melanoma skin neoplasms (9.7%)
  • 90,096 prostate cancer (8.2%).

In the structure of the incidence of the female population: 90 095 90 096 breast cancer (19.8%) 90 097

  • non-melanoma neoplasms
  • 90,096 leather (13.3%)

  • stomach cancer (7.5%)
  • 90,096 colon (7%).

The most informative study for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer is total colonoscopy. However, not everyone agrees to go through this procedure. There are certain indications for colonoscopy: anemia of unknown origin, fever, unexplained weight loss, local symptoms of intestinal damage: discharge of blood or mucus during bowel movements, pain in the projection of the colon, in the perineum, constipation or diarrhea.

There can be many indications, but there is a group of patients who participate in the screening of precancerous conditions and colorectal cancer. This means: hereditary risk factors for several parameters – the presence of a family history of colon cancer in first-line relatives, the presence of hereditary syndromes manifested by non-polyposis colorectal cancer, familial adenomatous polyposis. These patients undergo screening colonoscopy much earlier than people in the general population. According to statistics, with familial adenomatous polyposis, most patients develop CRC by the age of 30. Naturally, in this case, observations begin from childhood, and by the age of 20, according to Western standards, patients are shown colectomy.According to the results of numerous clinical studies, it has been proven that in the general population, which does not have hereditary risk factors, a colonoscopy should already be performed in patients aged 50 years.

The development of CRC is a multistep and multistage process, which, according to the estimates of the world’s leading experts studying genetics, biology, risk factors for this process, takes an average of 10 years. Experts are based on this figure, recommending the interval between screening colonoscopy.

Poorly flushes the toilet what to do, possible causes and solutions to the problem

Why doesn’t the shit wash off

The reasons why shit just refuses to wash off and continues to swim again and again, there are several corns in your eyes. Each of them has a completely different origin.

    • Toilet flush cistern defective. This is one of the reasons why washing off the poop becomes a whole problem. It is necessary to check the drain mechanism. It happens that there is something shifting, and the water does not flow at full capacity and not quite at the right angle. This causes the suction force of the siphon to drop. Here you will have to spend a little time as a plumber or call a specialist at home. Below, we will still give advice on what to do if you are too lazy to do something or there is simply no money at the moment to repair the holy place.Anything can happen, but the shit must be washed off – we will get out.
    • The second reason is already directly in you, or rather, the turd that you have spawned. It has a greasy consistency or is too porous, which helps to keep it afloat. In the article about that, you can find out in more detail why the turd keeps well on the water and what degree of buoyancy the feces have.
    • There is another reason. But it no longer lies in the fact that it is not possible to flush the poop in the toilet, but in the fact that it clogs up, not allowing it to pass. This happens if you put in too much toilet paper. Or they really piled too large a pile, which cannot be washed off the first time. Usually, on the second try, everything falls into place and the feces are safely sent to visit the ninja turtles.

Method 2 of 4 Evaluate stool color

Look at it, sniff it, study the contents – and draw useful conclusions. So I work in your provincial town as a sewer … But I came to tell you that yesterday I began to notice that you no longer need my help … Each column contains two numbers: the number of views and the number of visitors.

The article argues that it’s okay to be a sinker In my experience it’s the other way around, when I switch to an unhealthy diet I become a sinker, usually a floater. Vegetarians would you think that the “ideal” stool (that is, one uncontaminated consumption of animal parts) is Floater. Many vegetarians have spent their entire lives looking to produce perfection – when in fact no particular diet can reliably produce Floaters.

    Defecation act

Each organism is characterized by an individual frequency of bowel movements.Normally, this is from three times a day to three bowel movements per week. Ideally, once a day. Many factors affect our gut motility and this should not be a cause for concern. Travel, nervous tension, diet, taking certain medications, illness, surgery, childbirth, exercise, sleep, hormonal changes – all this can be reflected in our chair

It is worth paying attention to how the act of defecation occurs. If excessive efforts are made, this indicates certain malfunctions in the body

Why does not the feces sink when washing off

The Americans conducted a study and found that feces sink or crumble about 5 hours after being in the water. The buoyancy of the faeces should not be a cause for concern, especially if there are no other symptoms of digestive disorders. The feces float and do not sink due to its porous structure and the presence of a certain amount of gases released by the bacterial flora.

Buoyancy is most often affected by the food consumed, however, according to the deviation of this indicator from the norm, some disturbances in the work of the gastrointestinal tract can be assumed. For example, when the feces do not sink when washed off and floats on the surface, like polystyrene, this indicates its too low density, which is associated with the high air content in the feces.

The reason lies either in the use of foods that cause increased gas production in the intestines, or in the increased multiplication of bacteria. The presence of an intestinal infection will additionally be indicated by a loose or liquid consistency of feces, a pungent odor, mucus inclusions, traces of blood, discoloration. Feces will be easy after eating a large amount of plant food, which includes fiber that is loose in structure. It is not flushed in the toilet and too fatty feces float to the surface.Such stool may be a sign of impaired fat absorption in liver disease. However, for an infant on HB (breastfeeding), such a chair is the norm, especially in the first months of a baby’s life. Unlike an adult, a baby has an accelerated peristalsis, and fats from mother’s milk are poorly absorbed and are excreted along with feces.

If feces drown in water, this may indicate an increased intake of animal proteins, the metabolism of which increases the content of toxins in the body.Heavy, dense, practically without air pores, feces are released when the level of bad cholesterol in the body is more than 1.5 times higher than the norm. In relation to a child, the situation is more dangerous when the feces are drowning. In this case, you must immediately consult a doctor and take a coprogram.

    Causes of easy feces

The presence of faeces on the surface means that they contain a lot of fatty elements. This aspect depends on improper absorption and subsequent breakdown of fats that enter the body along with food. The reason is often pathological processes occurring in the digestive system, increased peristalsis.

However, the presence of too dense and light stools that cannot crumble for a long time is not always a consequence of the disease. They are often formed as a result of prolonged use of medications, in particular antibiotics. If the color of feces also changes in parallel, this factor should not be ignored.

Foods affecting the state of feces

Hard, heavy stools with virtually no air pores can signal that an excessive amount of dangerous toxins has accumulated in the body.Another reason for this change is the increase in cholesterol levels by 1.5 times or more in relation to the norm.

As for toxins, they come with food or are formed due to excessive consumption of proteins. Among the products belonging to the risk group, there are:

    • meat and dairy products;
    • 90,096 eggs;

      90,096 poultry;

    • seafood of questionable origin.

Thorough heat treatment must be carried out before using them. When buying, it is also worthwhile to check these products well for the correctness and duration of storage.

If during bowel movements, fecal masses are secreted, which have a loose structure and do not fall under the water, they are the result of eating an unlimited amount of plant foods. Such products contain a lot of fiber, which makes feces fluffy, can stain them in unusual shades.

    Pathological causes

Why is feces not flushed well in the toilet? If the cause is the presence of fat particles in large quantities, this factor should not be ignored, because there is a high probability of pathological changes in the liver.

If the stool is light, has a strong and unpleasant odor, the cause may be an intestinal infection. The feces may also contain traces of blood, mucus, blotches of an unnatural color.

If a person’s feces are not washed off in the toilet the first time, and the general condition is disturbed, you will need qualified specialist help and treatment. The first symptoms of impaired fat metabolism appear precisely in the unusual state of excrement. More characteristic signs are found in the later stages of pathology.

Fatty stools that float to the surface can come out in a young child who is breastfed. For babies, this is the norm in the first few months of life. The bottom line is insufficient absorption of fats found in breast milk, and accelerated peristalsis.

    Loose stools. What to do

If you have soft, too frequent, loose stools for a long time, this indicates a malfunction in the gastrointestinal tract. To get rid of diarrhea, you need to understand what causes it.Try to strengthen your stool with foods that hold it in place. These are unripe bananas, applesauce, rice, fatty meat, broth, muffins, mashed potatoes.

An excellent home remedy for diarrhea – black peppercorns. Take, depending on body weight, 10-15 pieces and swallow with water.

When diarrhea lasts more than three days or blood is present in it, you need to see a doctor and have a detailed analysis of the stool.

    Feces in children

Many mothers are interested in what feces should be in babies

It is worth paying special attention to this factor, since at an early age, gastrointestinal diseases are especially difficult. At the first suspicion, contact the pediatrician immediately

In the first days after birth, meconium (dark color) leaves the body. During the first three days, it begins to mix. On the 4-5th day, feces completely replace meconium. When breastfeeding, feces of a golden yellow color are a sign of the presence of bilirubin, pasty, homogeneous, has an acidic reaction. At the 4th month, bilirubin is gradually replaced by stercobilin.

    The chair must sink

If the feces are in the aquatic environment for a long time, the pores are gradually displaced from its volume. Thus, from objective data, it can be seen that the extreme buoyancy of shit was attributed purely from social motivations and allegorical definitions.

Important information is provided by the state of our feces in the toilet. Worse, when the feces sinks abruptly, goes to the bottom, like a stone, which means that the body is heavily slagged, and intestinal bacteria either do not work at all, or work poorly, they cannot saturate the feces with gases

So periodically pay attention to the state of your stool in the toilet.By the way, in England not only I suffered from the fact that the feces refused to be washed off

ALWAYS floated in the toilet. The color, shape, and smell of poop can tell you what’s going on in your body. Perhaps caused by some kind of infection, and in this case, diarrhea is the body’s way of getting rid of pathogens. Brown It’s okay. Usually the stool is brown due to the bile produced in the liver.

Yellow Bold, offensive, or bright yellow stool indicates excess fat. This may be due to impaired fat absorption, such as celiac disease. If you first saw something wrong in the feces, not the same as usual, do not rush to panic. We all go to the toilet, and while this is not a topic for a dinner party, we sometimes need to look at what we usually try to flush down the toilet as soon as possible.

As you may have already noticed, the color of your stools can change depending on the food you consume and other factors. Do you go to the bathroom at the same time every morning, or can you skip going for a few days?

Flatulence is embarrassing, but it is the result of harmless bacteria breaking down food in the large intestine, a perfectly healthy process

Pay attention to the consistency of the stool.Bowel stool should be homogeneous, firm and slightly loose

So what should we, amateurs, amateur producers and researchers of feces, know about this very, seemingly close and understandable, but sometimes mysterious product? The composition of feces generally depends on the nature of the diet and the function of the digestive tract. Feces are formed in the large intestine and consist of food debris, mainly plant fiber.

What is the feces.Feces shape Bristol scale

    type 1 type 2 type 3 type 4 type 5 type 6 type 7

Correctly formed normal stool ensures that the process of food digestion and absorption of nutrients, as well as the elimination of toxins and other waste, occurs without any disturbance. The Bristol Stool Shape Scale gives an idea of what a healthy person’s stool should look like.

    Type 1:
Watery stools, free of particulate matter

    Type 2:
    Fuzzy chair with ragged edges

    Type 3:
Soft droplets with sharp ragged edges (comes out with ease)

    Type 4:
    Smooth and soft sausage

    Type 5:
Like sausage, but with cracks on the surface

    Type 6:
Sausage shape, but lumpy and lumpy

    Type 7:
Separate small lumps, small balls that come out with difficulty

The best option is Type 4.Perfect sausage-shaped faeces come out easily and smells more like overripe fruit than horrible. The feces should be easily discharged and gently lowered into the water.

    • If the feces are poorly washed off the walls of the toilet, they are not digested fats.
    • If the feces do not sink – or a lot of gases, or fiber, or not digested fats.
    • If it falls sharply and with a splash – a lack of dietary fiber.

Type 5 is better than Type 2 and 3. Diarrhea is difficult to control and its causes are sometimes not easy to correct. With diarrhea, essential nutrients are not absorbed into the body.

    • Gruel-like feces may indicate inflammatory processes in the intestines, malabsorption.
    • Foamy feces – fermentation processes in the intestines.
    • Lumpy feces may indicate insufficient water intake.

How many times they go to the toilet in large quantities

The rate of bowel emptying is one full-fledged trip to the toilet a day, when a person feels not partial, but complete emptying of the bowel.Sometimes there is more frequent bowel movements. Often, bowel movements occur 2-3 times a day. This suggests that a person’s metabolic processes are faster, or he has consumed food that has a natural laxative effect. More frequent bowel movements (more than 3 times a day) indicate that you have experienced diarrhea, which we will discuss below.

It is believed that having a bowel movement every couple of days is normal, but this is a controversial issue. Emptying your bowels is the best way for your body to get rid of toxins, acids and other unnecessary substances that may accumulate inside, so ideally this process should occur daily.

Your feces should be interpreted as the result of your own efforts to improve your well-being, a hint that you should not expect help in reality from anyone.

The next point of interpretation will be to clarify the actions with the detected faeces of the sleeping person himself. For example, washing off shit in a dream is a hint that you will lose on your own will what will float into your hands.

Getting dirty with shit, stepping on shit in a dream – all this will already indicate a more specific possession of certain goods. If in a dream you performed some manipulations with your feces (for example, ate feces, washed off feces, swam in shit, etc.) – this reflects the presence of a negative deviation monitor program, as well as the death instinct.

If in a dream you swim in shit, you will live in luxury, but you will never find peace of mind, because you will enrich yourself in an dishonest and immoral way.

Below, we will still give advice on what to do if you are too lazy to do something or there is simply no money at the moment to repair the holy place. Anything can happen, but the shit must be washed off – we will get out.
Or they really piled too large a pile, which cannot be washed off the first time.Usually, on the second try, everything falls into place and the feces are safely sent to visit the ninja turtles.

What is the feces. Feces shape Bristol scale

    type 1 type 2 type 3 type 4 type 5 type 6 type 7

Malabsorption syndrome – a directory of diseases – HealthInfo

The doctor suspects malabsorption, if the patient loses weight, he develops diarrhea and therefore deficiency of nutrients or vitamins despite good nutrition. If the only symptom is weight loss, the reasons may be different.

The diagnosis is confirmed by laboratory tests. Studies that directly measure the fat content in feces collected in 3-4 days, in most cases, can reliably diagnose fat malabsorption. The detection of excess fat makes it possible to make a diagnosis with a high degree of probability. Some laboratory tests help detect malabsorption of other substances, such as lactose or vitamin B 12 .

Feces are examined with the naked eye and under a microscope. Undigested food debris may indicate that food passes through the intestine too quickly or that there is an abnormal communication between different parts of the intestine, such as a direct connection between the stomach and the large intestine (gastro-colon fistula). In this case, the food mass does not enter the small intestine. In jaundice, excess fat in the stool may be a sign of a biliary disorder, but a doctor should rule out a malignant tumor in the pancreas or biliary tract.Fat globules and undigested meat fibers when examined under a microscope indicate that the pancreas is not functioning properly. If parasites or their eggs are visible under the microscope, this suggests that the malabsorption is caused by parasite infestation.

X-rays of the abdomen are rarely helpful in making the diagnosis, although they sometimes indicate possible causes of malabsorption. Fluoroscopy, which is performed after a person drinks a suspension of barium, can demonstrate the pathological nature of the distribution of barium in the small intestine, which is characteristic of malabsorption, but does not provide information about its cause.

A biopsy (taking a piece of the inner surface of the intestine for examination) is sometimes necessary to find the causes of the disorder of the small intestine. It is performed using an endoscope – a flexible fiber-optic medical instrument or a thin tube with a small cutting instrument at the end. This piece of tissue is examined under a microscope and the enzyme activity is assessed.

Pancreas is being tested because pancreatic dysfunction is a common cause of malabsorption. For this, the patient must follow a special diet or receive an injection of the hormone secretin. In both cases, intestinal juices containing pancreatic secretions are obtained through a tube and examined in the laboratory.

The mayor told me when he met me that carps swim in … fecal waters!

All past Sunday, the “OH” reporter wandered through the steppes in search of a fetid source, which, allegedly, is poisoning the mirror carp, beloved by the Orcs. It all started with a historic meeting of editorial staff with Mayor Yu.Chernousov, which has already been reported in the press. Lacking the breadth of knowledge and subtle political instinct, I then asked Yuri Alexandrovich a question: why, they say, in the information and analytical department of the White House, whose activities are completely incomprehensible to the taxpayer, there are fifteen souls working, while only three are engaged in environmental problems? Marveling at my natural stupidity, the mayor replied that much in the work of the IAU is covered in darkness at the request of the Chekists (well, how the enemy will find out what the actual industrial potential of Orsk is, what then?), And popularly explained the enduring importance of this service for the city. Then he told about the ecology, having struck down with terrible news: it was suddenly discovered that the sewage system from the houses of the village of Novaya Biofabrika flows into the steppe, and from there – into the pond where the Rybak collective farm breeds mirror carp! It turns out that in addition to a wonderful fish, there is something that never drowns in the pond. This was the only thing we needed for complete ecological happiness.

MISH AND BONE SING UNDER THIS FISH
The revelation of Yuri Alexandrovich made me somehow ill.For that carp has been in demand from time immemorial, because the deliciousness is extraordinary, if, of course, you cook it with your soul. Take, for example, even the biggest fish gourmets – my blue cats Kostya and Misha (blue cats are such a breed, don’t think of anything bad), lay a newspaper on the floor as a dostarkhan and ask in human language: “Guys, will you eat carp from the Biofactory?” … And in response, you will hear Kostya and Misha sing with joy, just like Philip Kirkorov, when he is released on stage without a phonogram. And these animals, horribly fastidious in food, will not sing for no reason, believe me, I have been raising them for several years. And, forgive me, these proud tailed gentlemen will not consume fish that has eaten poop – they will turn away contemptuously.
Nevertheless, after the rendezvous with Y. Chernousov, doubts crept into my soul. On Saturday they intensified even more. On that day, the Rybak collective farm completed the autumn fishing season and took out barrels of fish to trade at the fair. If the mayor knows about the effluent in the pond, and the fair was held under the auspices of the administration, why then was Rybak allowed to participate in it, without first establishing the effect of the effluent on the quality of fish? Finally confused, on Sunday I went to the collective farm camp to find out everything for sure.

    TIME UNTIL SPRING
The “Rybak” collective farm greeted us with silence, which happens in fish farms only after the end of fishing season. The boats have already been removed, and many thousands of carps have been placed for the time being in winter roads – small reservoirs. They eat there much better than the inmates in the reception center for people without a fixed abode: the inhabitants of the local waters eat tons of specially prepared pelleted feed, wheat and barley. Fattened, the size of a shovel, well-fed and satisfied with the collective farm life, the carps start games from time to time, and from that it seems that the water in the winter roads is boiling as if a huge boiler was put into it.The spectacle is indescribable!
Near the truck met a collective farmer who holds the position of a pond worker and bears the sonorous name of Sapar. Himself from the locals, from the Old Biofactory. Taking advantage of the lull, he went over the engine, was covered in oil and did not prepare for the interview at all. Then I immediately stunned him:
    – Did you know that the sewage system flows into the pond between the Old and New Biofabrika?
From this news, Sapar almost dropped the twelve key on his leg and was dumbfounded:
    – What’s dripping ?!
    – Well, shit, to put it simply.
    – What ?!
    – Normal.
    – Where from ?!
    – From the New Biofactory …
    – How does it drain ?!
    – Yes, simple. The sewage system from the five-story buildings goes into the wild steppe and through it enters the pond in which you breed carp.
    – Who told you that ?!
    – Mayor.
    – Who-who ?!
The pond worker looked at me as the chief physician of the Krutorozhinsky hospital must be looking at a hopeless patient. I came to my senses a little and read a fascinating lecture that carp is a delicate fish, it will not live in the mud, it will not eat nasty things either.I completely agreed with him:
    – Yes, I, too, will be from the village, Sapar. In the Ust-Ishim district of the Omsk province, mirror carp have been bred since tsarist times, he was very picky to clean water. I remember that the cowgirls got drunk on May Day, they did not notice, and “good” flowed from the barn into the pond. The carp floated up belly. And then the cowgirls were kicked off at the party’s asset. But a fact is a fact: the authorities have established that the sewage system is running down!
The collective farmer took me to a slope and pointed to a huge muddy field, on the horizon of which the houses of the New Biofabrika were visible:
    – Here it is, the same pond, the water from it was lowered into Ori.Melted water will fill it up again in the spring. Until then, you have time.
    – For what?
    – From the New Biofactory, you say, flows down?
    – Yes.
    – In the steppe?
    – Across the steppe.
    – Does it get into our pond?
    – Into your pond.
    – So go and find what flows down there! I have lived here all my life, I know the steppe like the back of my hand, and for the first time I hear about such nasty things, and they live there, in the city, everyone knows what is going on here!
That is why I love to communicate with an ordinary worker – for his simplicity and peasant wisdom. It’s much more difficult with the bosses. It is very smart and you don’t always understand it. The bosses, especially if they rise to the position of deputy minister, suddenly begin to utter such clever phrases about the same purity of water that you can’t imagine what is what with an appetizer of carp baked on coals. And here everything is simple and clear. Is something dripping? Go and find what – everything will become clear by itself. I went to look, scorching by the bright sun.

EVERYTHING THAT FLOWS ARE TRIED IN LANGUAGE
Judging by the hoof prints, of all living things before me, only cows and horses walked along the bottom of the huge drained pond. They were there on Sunday, goggling their huge brown eyes in surprise at the stranger who had come from nowhere. In the distance, crows croaked, guttural cries of seagulls were heard. The smell of the autumn steppe was not at all like those suffocating waves that can be caught in the city center after a sewer geyser suddenly hits from a well. Guided by the thin streaks of water that appeared on the bare bottom of the pond, I stubbornly dusted towards the New Biofabrika in an effort to find the very fetid spring that had started up in the steppes. And so he got to the outskirts of the village. Indeed, barely noticeable, hidden under the thick mud and duckweed, there are water threads connecting the biofactory and the pond. In a scientific fervor, just like old Paganel from Captain Grant’s Children, I knelt on my hands and knees on the mother’s damp earth and sniffed at these streams of water for a long time. What was the opinion about me in the outer houses of the settlement, from the windows of which the stunned citizens were leaning out, I cannot say, I did not conduct an express survey on this matter. What did my nose show? Nothing criminal.By smell, it turns out – the most common swamp water, which remains in the channel after the reservoirs become shallow or they are artificially drained. I’ve seen this on the Ob many times. In exploratory ecstasy, I scooped that strange liquid into a handful and tasted it. Musty, rancid, slightly iron-like. In the eighties of the last century, when, together with other Arkharovtsy, I was sent from the Ural University to an archaeological landing to set up a camp in the village of Nizyamy, from great thirst and lack of springs in the deep taiga, we drank similar water through gauze folded in several layers. The usual thing for Siberia is that no one has died. In the taiga wilderness, by the way, sewage and similar fecal waters have never been and is not by definition. But one can hardly rely entirely on the primitive human feelings of one single reporter. There would be specialists with test tubes for analysis and smart equipment for recognizing the composition of water. Then everything will finally become clear.
For convenience, I chose a different way back to the Old Biofactory. In order not to rip my shoes on the uneven bottom of the shallow pond, I crossed the track and calmly stomped along the smooth steppe. And he almost fell into the open hatch of some well. Looked inside. It seems to be dry. He went down the dirty steps-braces, looked around. Around – brickwork, underfoot – a curved metal circle. It doesn’t look like a missile silo containing ballistic fools with nuclear warheads. I remembered the place and, if necessary, I can show everyone who is interested in this find.
Thus, the mystery of the waters falling into the pond remains unsolved. Although conspicuous, and most importantly – in the nose, anti-natural ugliness was not found. If suddenly someone from the power structures is going to organize a scientific expedition to those places, do not consider it difficult to report to the newspaper: we will help in covering the research, if necessary, we will indicate the already tasted sections of the steppe. We are also ready to provide a place on our pages to all those interested in this topic: ecologists, fish farmers, specialists of the water utility, sanitary and epidemiological service and other knowledgeable people who could clarify the situation with the mirror carp for the reader, and therefore for the consumer.

Rostovites, returning from the seas, warn: poop swims on the beaches!

This year, poop is swimming in sea water practically along the entire coast.

Previously, this was only in Abkhazia: there, enterprising local residents set up small houses on the very seashore, and since there was no question of any sewage system, the pipes from under the toilet bowls were brought directly into the sea – to the beaches. So they appeared periodically among the bathing poop.

Shall we talk about the danger lurking in this? It can be anything from hepatitis to common E. coli. Especially if the water is warm.
