Sedation

SOMA has sedative properties (in the low back pain
trials, 13% to 17% of patients who received SOMA experienced sedation compared
to 6% of patients who received placebo) [see ADVERSE REACTIONS] and may
impair the mental and/or physical abilities required for the performance of
potentially hazardous tasks such as driving a motor vehicle or operating
machinery. There have been post-marketing reports of motor vehicle accidents
associated with the use of SOMA.

Since the sedative effects of SOMA and other CNS
depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, tricyclic
antidepressants) may be additive, appropriate caution should be exercised with
patients who take more than one of these CNS depressants simultaneously.

Abuse, Dependence, And Withdrawal

Carisoprodol, the active ingredient in SOMA, has been
subject to abuse, dependence, and withdrawal, misuse and criminal diversion. [see
Drug Abuse And Dependence]. Abuse of SOMA poses a risk of overdosage which
may lead to death, CNS and respiratory depression, hypotension, seizures and
other disorders [see OVERDOSAGE].

Post-marketing experience cases of carisoprodol abuse and
dependence have been reported in patients with prolonged use and a history of
drug abuse. Although most of these patients took other drugs of abuse, some
patients solely abused carisoprodol. Withdrawal symptoms have been reported
following abrupt cessation of SOMA after prolonged use. Reported withdrawal
symptoms included insomnia, vomiting, abdominal cramps, headache, tremors,
muscle twitching, ataxia, hallucinations, and psychosis. One of carisoprodol’s metabolites,
meprobamate (a controlled substance), may also cause dependence [see
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY].

To reduce the risk of SOMA abuse assess the risk of abuse
prior to prescribing. After prescribing, limit the length of treatment to three
weeks for the relief of acute musculoskeletal discomfort, keep careful
prescription records, monitor for signs of abuse and overdose, and educate
patients and their families about abuse and on proper storage and disposal.

Seizures

There have been post-marketing reports of seizures in
patients who received SOMA. Most of these cases have occurred in the setting of
multiple drug overdoses (including drugs of abuse, illegal drugs, and alcohol)

Carcinogenesis

Long term studies in animals
have not been performed to evaluate the carcinogenic potential of carisoprodol.

Mutagenesis

SOMA was not formally evaluated
for genotoxicity. In published studies, carisoprodol was mutagenic in the in
vitro mouse lymphoma cell assay in the absence of metabolizing enzymes, but was
not mutagenic in the presence of metabolizing enzymes. Carisoprodol was clastogenic
in the in vitro chromosomal aberration assay using Chinese hamster ovary cells
with or without the presence of metabolizing enzymes. Other types of genotoxic
tests resulted in negative findings. Carisoprodol was not mutagenic in the Ames
reverse mutation assay using S. typhimurium strains with or without
metabolizing enzymes, and was not clastogenic in an in vivo mouse micronucleus
assay of circulating blood cells.

Impairment Of Fertility

SOMA was not formally evaluated for effects on fertility.
A published reproductive study in which female mice received carisoprodol
orally at doses of 300, 750, or 1200 mg/kg/day (approximately 1, 2.6, and 4.1
times the MRHD of 1400 mg per day [350 mg QID] based on body surface area [BSA]
comparison) from 1-week prior to mating, to 27-weeks post-mating found no
alteration in fertility although an alteration in reproductive cycles
characterized by a greater time spent in estrus was observed at a carisoprodol
dose of 1200 mg/kg/day. In a 13week toxicology study that did not determine
fertility, mouse testes weight and sperm motility were reduced at a dose of
1200 mg/kg/day (maternal doses equivalent to 4.2-times the MRHD based on BSA
comparison). In both studies, the no effect level was 750 mg/kg/day,
corresponding to approximately 2.6-times the MRHD based on a BSA comparison.
The significance of these findings for human fertility is not known.

Use In Specific Populations

Pregnancy

Risk Summary

Data over many decades of carisoprodol use in pregnancy
have not identified a drug-associated risk of major birth defects, miscarriage,
or other adverse maternal or fetal outcomes. Data on meprobamate, the primary
metabolite of carisoprodol, also do not show a consistent association between
maternal use of meprobamate and an increased risk of major birth defects (see
Data).

In a published animal reproduction study, pregnant mice
administered carisoprodol orally at 2. 6and 4.1-times the maximum recommended human
dose ([MRHD] of 1400 mg per day [350 mg QID] based on body surface area [BSA]
comparison) from gestation through weaning resulted in reduced fetal weights,
postnatal weight gain, and postnatal survival (see Data).

The estimated background risk of major birth defects and
miscarriage for the indicated population is unknown. All pregnancies have a
background risk of birth defect, loss, or other adverse outcomes. In the U.S.
general population, the estimated background risk of major birth defects and
miscarriage in clinically recognized pregnancies is 2 to 4% and 15 to 20%,
respectively.

Data

Human Data

Retrospective case-control and cohort studies of
meprobamate use during the first trimester of pregnancy have not consistently identified
an increased risk or pattern of major birth defects. For children exposed to
meprobamate in-utero, one study found no adverse effect on mental or motor
development or IQ scores.

Animal Data

Embryofetal development studies in animals have not been
completed.

In a published pre-and post-natal development animal
study, pregnant mice administered carisoprodol orally at 300, 750, or 1200
mg/kg/day (approximately 1-, 2.6-, and 4.1-times the MRHD based on BSA
comparison) from 7-days prior to gestation through birth and from lactation
through weaning resulted in reduced fetal weights, postnatal weight gain, and
postnatal survival at 2.6-and 4.1-times the MRHD.

Lactation

Risk Summary

Data from published literature report that carisoprodol
and its metabolite, meprobamate, are present in breastmilk. There are no data
on the effect of carisoprodol on milk production. There is one report of
sedation in an infant who was breastfed by a mother taking carisoprodol (see Clinical
Considerations). Because there have been no consistent reports of adverse
events in breastfed infants over decades of use, the developmental and health
benefits of breastfeeding should be considered along with the mother’s clinical
need for SOMA and any potential adverse effects on the breastfed infant from
SOMA or from the underlying maternal condition.

Clinical Considerations

Infants exposed to SOMA through
breast milk should be monitored for sedation.

Pediatric Use

The efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of SOMA in
pediatric patients less than 16 years of age have not been established.

Geriatric Use

The efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of SOMA in
patients over 65 years old have not been established.

Renal Impairment

The safety and pharmacokinetics of SOMA in patients with
renal impairment have not been evaluated. Since SOMA is excreted by the kidney,
caution should be exercised if SOMA is administered to patients with impaired
renal function. Carisoprodol is dialyzable by hemodialysis and peritoneal
dialysis.

Hepatic Impairment

The safety and pharmacokinetics of SOMA in patients with
hepatic impairment have not been evaluated. Since SOMA is metabolized in the
liver, caution should be exercised if SOMA is administered to patients with
impaired hepatic function.

Patients With Reduced CYP2C19 Activity

Patients with reduced CYP2C19 activity have higher
exposure to carisoprodol. Therefore, caution should be exercised in

Due to it’s DEA classification, the federal guideline in designating Soma as a controlled substance invariably affects individual states as well. The Schedule IV designation indicates that Soma (Carisoprodol) carries with it the ability to cause individuals to abuse the substance as well as risk dependency. Similar drugs that share the same classification are Xanax, Valium, Ativan, and Ambien. In California, Soma (Carisoprodol) is also considered a controlled substance, where possession without a prescription will be considered a misdemeanor offense.

PUNISHMENT FOR SOMA (CARISOPRODOL) POSSESSION

So, catfish. I decided to postpone Wikipedia for a while, because everyone already knows about it and know how to use it. Therefore, I explain in my own words what this drink is now, and not what it was 3000 years ago (of course, it is impossible to find out).Soma, however, continues to be cooked in India to this day and is consumed, as I understand it, quite widely – from Ayurvedic medicine to tantric alchemy, as a psychopomp for the time of ritual work, or just for pacification and tranquility, because modern soma (pavama) has a strong relaxing and hypnotic effect.

Soma is a general, collective name for a whole class of drinks, just like wine. Needless to say, wine is very different, just like catfish in India is very different.And, since catfish is not a product of mass industry, there is no hard and fast recipe for catfish – everyone makes it to their taste and color. There is, however, something in common. I will write the recipe in terms of liters, where the container for the fermentation of catfish = 24.5 liters, with a valve for removing the CO2. We fill it up to 24 liters, not to the end.

But, if it is unrealistic to wake up under the bugs, then after the catfish the rise is quite cheerful, by the morning the catfish completely lets go, it seems that it is even removed from the blood by 70-90% during the day.

Catfish is not a “lean” fish like, say, cod or tilapia. The best I can do with this fish is to grill it, fry it, or bake it in the oven. In both cases, a part of the fat is melted out of the fish, and the spices and herbs used to rub the fish are absorbed into its pulp.

Catfish stands out among other fish for its special taste, which is why not everyone loves this fish.But if you do not skimp on spices, you can enjoy the slightly seared, aromatic fish.

If I cook catfish in the oven, I prefer high temperature: broiled / grilled fish or baked at 200 C / 400 F.

Due to its dense structure, catfish fillets take a little longer to bake than many other fish fillets. This is what led me to the idea of ​​cooking dinner on one baking sheet – baked fingerling potatoes and catfish fillets. Such a healthy option for fish and chips.

If you want to cook fish and potatoes (or a mixture of vegetables) on one baking sheet, preheat the oven to 210 C (425 F). On a baking sheet, place the potato wedges mixed with olive oil, salt and, if desired, herbs and spices (paprika, black pepper, garlic, granulated onions, thyme, rosemary). While the fish is marinating, bake the potatoes in the oven for about 15 minutes. Then lower the oven temperature to 200 C (400 F). Slide the potatoes to one side of the baking sheet, place the fish side by side and bake for about 20 minutes, or until fish and potatoes are done.

I think that you can not lower the oven temperature, but cook fish at 210 C (425 F), but I have not tried this method.

Cut the catfish prepared in this way into the thickness of portioned pieces from the back and to the ridge.Do not cut it, the fish should remain intact, with some kind of pockets on the back.

Rub the carcass with salt and your favorite spices, paying attention to the cuts. Then pour it with lemon juice and set aside to marinate for 10 minutes. Thanks to this, the meat will not have the slightest odor of sludge.

During this time, cut the peeled onion into thin half rings and finely chop the herbs. Cut half the lemon into slices and remove the seeds from them.

Stuff the belly of the catfish with onions and herbs, insert the lemon circles into the incisions on the back of the fish.

Grease it with vegetable oil and place on an oiled baking sheet.

And put it in an oven preheated to 200 degrees for about 40-45 minutes. During this time, the catfish should be covered with a golden brown crust, and the meat should become dull white. If everything worked out well, the dish is ready. You can put it on a plate, garnish with vegetables, boiled potatoes or crumbly rice and serve.

While the portions are marinated in lemon juice and spices, the cauliflower must be washed and disassembled into small heads. We simmer some in a separate bowl with sour cream, and add the rest directly to the pan to the fish during stewing.

Cut the onion into large rings and lightly fry in a pan in oil, then add the carrots grated on a coarse grater and continue simmering over low heat, stirring occasionally. Then put everything on a plate.

Prepared pieces of fish should be sprinkled with flour on all sides and lightly browned in vegetable oil.

Then add water and put cauliflower in the pan. Then cover and cook for about 15 minutes.

At the end, add the pre-stewed carrots and onions on top of the fish and bring the dish to full readiness for about 10 minutes more.It turns out juicy and tasty fish, which is cooked covered with juicy vegetables. As you can see for yourself, these are simple secrets that I have shared so that you, too, know how to cook delicious catfish in a regular kitchen, without resorting to expensive products.

Lightly salted catfish caviar

To prepare the snack, you will need: about 500 grams of catfish caviar, vegetable oil to taste, 1 small bunch of green onions, water and salt (at the rate of about 60 grams per 1 liter).

Separate the catfish caviar from the films with a fork, transfer to a bowl or saucepan. Prepare the brine, bring it to a boil, remove from heat and cool to about 70 ° C. Pour hot salted water over the caviar, stir and leave for 30 minutes. Remove water using a colander lined with cheesecloth.

Finely chop the green onion, mix with the caviar. Add vegetable oil to taste and transfer the caviar to a glass jar. You will make a great cold appetizer. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours.

Catfish caviar fritters

To prepare this dish, take about 750-800 grams of catfish caviar, 1 incomplete (no top) tablespoon of starch, 1 egg, 3 tablespoons of sour cream, 1 small bunch of herbs to taste (dill, parsley, cilantro), salt, ground black pepper to taste. You will also need cooking oil for frying.

Sour cream – 125 gr.,
Flour – 50 gr.,
Onions – 2 pcs.,
Butter – 1 tbsp. spoon,
Vegetable oil,

Cooking method:

Cut the onion into half rings and fry in butter. Cut the fish into portions.Salt and pepper well, season with spices for fish.

Dip the fish on all sides in flour and fry in vegetable oil. Put the fish on a baking sheet, pour over sour cream (add a little salt), and sprinkle with fried onions on top. If the sour cream is oily, you need to dilute it with water.

Separate the yolks from the whites and add these yolks to the minced meat. Of course, you need to add salt and pepper. The resulting mass must be mixed well. Form cutlets, dip them in protein, then roll in breadcrumbs and fry in vegetable oil.

Since there were fishermen in the family, they often prepared a variety of fish dishes for the holidays, including catfish, however, river.Therefore, having a little nostalgia, I bought a fresh catfish carcass for 600 grams.

My fish was gutted, without a head. If you bought a whole fish, then you need to gut it and get rid of the head. Catfish has no husk, so cleaning it is much more pleasant. When the question arose – what can be made from clary catfish – I had 2 options. The first is a catfish casserole with cheese. This is an incredibly tasty dish, but it took a little longer than I had at the time of cooking.Therefore, if you are interested in this cooking option, write about it in the comments, and I will definitely prepare a recipe.

The second option is fried catfish in batter. This is a quick recipe, where the end result is a very tasty tender catfish, in a crispy breading. It is on it that we will dwell in more detail.

First, cut the fish into steaks. Regardless of the size of the catfish, we make pieces no thicker than 3-4 cm.

Now marinate the fish. For this we take salt, pepper and lemon juice.We mix everything and coat each piece of catfish from all sides. Leave to marinate for 10-15 minutes, and during this time we make breading.

You can use flour or breadcrumbs for breading, but I want to make it crisper, so I use oatmeal. Using a blender, I beat it for a few seconds so that the flakes are reduced, but not to the state of flour.

We turn to frying. To do this, take a frying pan, preferably not thin, so that the fish does not burn.I took a cast-iron grill pan, because I really like to fry on it – the food does not burn and is not heavily saturated with oil. Apply a few tablespoons of vegetable oil evenly to the pan and heat.

Next, dip the breaded pickled catfish and put in a frying pan.

You need to fry on low or medium heat so that the fish does not have time to burn. The frying process took me about 15 minutes: 7-8 minutes on both sides and 1 minute on the ends.

My African catfish was small enough that I could cook all the fish at once in one pan. If you have a lot larger carcass, just fry a few steaks at a time.
