Right breast bigger than left. Understanding Breast Asymmetry: Causes, Concerns, and Normalcy
Why is one breast often larger than the other. What causes breast asymmetry. Is it normal to have differently sized breasts. How common are asymmetrical breasts. When should you be concerned about breast size differences. What are the genetic factors influencing breast size.
The Prevalence of Breast Asymmetry
Breast asymmetry is a common occurrence among women, with many experiencing noticeable differences in size, shape, or position between their left and right breasts. Dr. Nazanin Khakpour, a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer at Moffitt Cancer Center, emphasizes this point, stating, “It is actually more common for women to have different breast shape and size than absolutely symmetrical breasts.” This natural variation is often described using the analogy that breasts are “sisters, not twins,” highlighting the normalcy of such differences.
The degree of asymmetry can vary significantly from person to person. Dr. Therese B. Bevers, professor of clinical cancer prevention and medical director of the Cancer Prevention Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center, notes that while some women may have subtle differences, others might experience more pronounced asymmetry: “Some women have a one or two cup size difference between their breasts.”
Genetic Factors Influencing Breast Asymmetry
Genetics plays a crucial role in determining breast size and shape, including asymmetry. Dr. Sherry Ross, a women’s health expert at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, explains that if your mother and grandmother have mismatched breasts, the odds are high that you will too. This genetic predisposition extends to other parts of the body as well, as Dr. Ross points out that ears, eyes, feet, and labia are not carbon copies either.
Hereditary Patterns in Breast Development
- Family history of breast asymmetry
- Genetic variations affecting tissue growth
- Inherited hormonal sensitivities
Understanding the genetic basis of breast asymmetry can help women feel more at ease with their body’s natural variations. It’s important to recognize that these differences are part of our unique genetic makeup and not indicative of any health issues in most cases.
The Impact of Weight Fluctuations on Breast Size
Weight changes can significantly influence breast size and symmetry. Dr. Bevers explains that breasts are partially composed of fat tissue, along with connective tissue and milk ducts. As a result, gaining or losing weight can affect breast size, but not always uniformly.
When weight fluctuations occur, it’s possible for one breast to change size more noticeably than the other. Dr. Bevers confirms, “It’s definitely possible to gain or lose weight asymmetrically in the breasts.” This non-uniform change can exacerbate existing asymmetry or create new differences in breast size.
Factors Affecting Weight-Related Breast Changes
- Distribution of fat cells in breast tissue
- Hormonal influences on fat storage
- Individual metabolic variations
Understanding how weight changes can affect breast symmetry empowers women to anticipate potential changes in their breast appearance during periods of weight gain or loss.
Medical Conditions Associated with Breast Asymmetry
While most cases of breast asymmetry are benign and natural, certain medical conditions can contribute to or exacerbate these differences. Dr. Jennifer Wider, a women’s health expert, points out that underlying medical or skeletal conditions can sometimes create the appearance of asymmetrical breasts.
Potential Medical Causes of Breast Asymmetry
- Scoliosis (curvature of the spine)
- Chest wall deformities
- Hormonal imbalances
- Certain breast surgeries or trauma
It’s important to note that these medical causes are less common than genetic factors or weight-related changes. However, if you notice a sudden or significant change in breast symmetry, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying conditions.
The Normalcy of Breast Asymmetry
Despite the prevalence of breast asymmetry, many women may feel self-conscious or concerned about differences in their breast sizes. However, health experts unanimously agree that some degree of asymmetry is entirely normal and does not indicate a health problem.
Dr. Ross emphasizes this point, stating, “If you’ve always had breasts that aren’t perfectly identical, it doesn’t mean something is wrong with you—it’s simply the way they are.” This reassurance is crucial for women who may be worried about their breast appearance.
Psychological Aspects of Breast Asymmetry
- Body image concerns
- Self-esteem impact
- Societal pressures for symmetry
Educating women about the normalcy of breast asymmetry can help alleviate concerns and promote a healthier body image. It’s essential to recognize that natural variations in breast size and shape are part of what makes each individual unique.
When to Seek Medical Advice for Breast Asymmetry
While breast asymmetry is generally normal, there are instances when it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional. Dr. Wider suggests that sudden changes in breast symmetry or the development of new lumps or irregularities should be evaluated by a doctor.
Signs That Warrant Medical Attention
- Sudden increase in asymmetry
- Development of new lumps or masses
- Changes in skin texture or color
- Nipple discharge or inversion
- Persistent pain or discomfort
Regular breast self-examinations and routine mammograms (as recommended by your healthcare provider) are essential for monitoring breast health and detecting any concerning changes early.
Breast Cancer Awareness and Asymmetry
While discussing breast asymmetry, it’s crucial to address breast cancer awareness. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that women at average risk begin annual mammograms at age 40. This recommendation underscores the importance of regular screening for early detection of breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Statistics
- In 2014, an estimated 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in American women.
- An additional 62,570 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer were anticipated.
- Massachusetts has the highest incidence of breast cancer, with 139.5 new cases per 100,000 female residents.
- Arkansas has the lowest incidence, with 101.9 new cases per 100,000 female residents.
These statistics highlight the prevalence of breast cancer and the importance of awareness and regular screening, regardless of breast symmetry.
Historical Perspectives on Breast Health and Treatment
The understanding and treatment of breast-related issues have evolved significantly over time. Ancient Egyptians were the first to document conditions consistent with breast cancer more than 3,500 years ago. Their writings on papyrus describe “bulging tumors” in the breast, noting that “there is no cure.”
Medical advancements in breast cancer treatment have come a long way since then. The late 1800s saw the first radical mastectomy performed by William S. Halsted, a surgeon at Johns Hopkins. This procedure marked a significant milestone in breast cancer treatment, although modern approaches have become much more refined and less invasive when possible.
Milestones in Breast Cancer Awareness and Treatment
- Ancient Egyptian documentation of breast tumors (circa 1500 BCE)
- First radical mastectomy (late 1800s)
- Establishment of the Susan G. Komen Foundation (1982)
- Introduction of targeted therapies and personalized medicine (late 20th – early 21st century)
The story of Susan G. Komen, diagnosed with breast cancer in 1977 at the age of 33, led to the creation of one of the most recognized breast cancer organizations. Her sister, Nancy Goodman Brinker, founded the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982, fulfilling a promise to her sister to do everything possible to end breast cancer.
Lifestyle Factors and Breast Health
While genetics and natural development play significant roles in breast asymmetry and overall breast health, lifestyle factors can also influence breast tissue. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has found evidence suggesting that night-shift work might be linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, highlighting the potential impact of circadian rhythm disruptions on breast health.
Lifestyle Considerations for Breast Health
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Regular physical activity
- Limiting alcohol consumption
- Avoiding tobacco use
- Getting adequate sleep and managing stress
These lifestyle factors not only contribute to overall health but may also play a role in maintaining breast health and potentially reducing cancer risk. It’s important to note that while these factors can influence breast health, they do not directly cause or prevent breast asymmetry.
Coping with Breast Asymmetry: Practical Solutions
For women who feel self-conscious about breast asymmetry, there are several practical solutions available. These range from simple, non-invasive options to more permanent surgical interventions, depending on individual preferences and the degree of asymmetry.
Non-Surgical Options for Managing Breast Asymmetry
- Specialized bras with removable padding
- Custom-fitted breast forms or inserts
- Clothing choices that minimize visible differences
For those considering more permanent solutions, consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can provide information about surgical options such as breast augmentation, reduction, or lift procedures. However, it’s crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks and to have realistic expectations about the outcomes.
Ultimately, the decision to address breast asymmetry is a personal one. Many women embrace their natural differences, while others may choose to explore corrective options. The most important factor is feeling comfortable and confident in one’s own body.
Breast Health Beyond Asymmetry: Holistic Approaches
While discussions about breast health often focus on cancer prevention and physical appearance, it’s important to consider a more holistic approach to breast wellness. This includes understanding the role of breasts in overall health, from hormonal balance to physical comfort and emotional well-being.
Aspects of Holistic Breast Health
- Nutritional support for breast tissue health
- Exercises to improve posture and chest muscle strength
- Stress reduction techniques to support hormonal balance
- Regular self-examinations for familiarity with breast tissue
- Open communication with healthcare providers about breast concerns
Adopting a holistic approach to breast health can empower women to take proactive steps in caring for their bodies, regardless of breast size or symmetry. This perspective encourages a focus on overall well-being rather than fixating on physical appearances.
The Role of Education in Breast Health Awareness
Education plays a crucial role in promoting breast health awareness and dispelling myths about breast asymmetry and other common concerns. By providing accurate information and fostering open discussions, we can help women feel more comfortable with their bodies and more confident in seeking medical advice when needed.
Key Areas for Breast Health Education
- Understanding normal breast variations and development
- Recognizing signs that warrant medical attention
- Learning proper techniques for breast self-examinations
- Understanding risk factors for breast cancer and other breast health issues
- Navigating available resources for breast health information and support
By promoting comprehensive breast health education, we can empower women to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. This knowledge can lead to earlier detection of potential issues and a more positive relationship with one’s body.
Celebrating Diversity in Breast Appearance
As we conclude our exploration of breast asymmetry and related health topics, it’s important to celebrate the diversity of breast appearances. Just as every individual is unique, so too are their physical characteristics, including breast size, shape, and symmetry.
Recognizing and embracing this diversity can contribute to a more inclusive and body-positive culture. It’s crucial to remember that health and well-being are not determined by physical appearance, and that natural variations in breast size and shape are a normal part of human diversity.
Promoting Body Positivity in Breast Health Discussions
- Encouraging self-acceptance and confidence
- Challenging unrealistic beauty standards
- Highlighting the stories of diverse women and their experiences
- Focusing on overall health rather than aesthetic ideals
By fostering a more inclusive and accepting attitude towards breast diversity, we can help reduce anxiety and self-consciousness related to breast appearance. This approach not only supports individual well-being but also contributes to a healthier societal perspective on body image and breast health.

Here’s Why One Boob Is Sometimes Bigger Than the Other
You and your boobs go way back. You probably know them so well by now that you could pick them out of a lineup if you had to. That’s because boobs are a little like snowflakes—each with their own unique shape, texture, and characteristics. Even in the same set, one boob may be a little bigger or perkier than the other.
If you have asymmetrical breasts, you’re not alone—this is incredibly common, women’s health expert Jennifer Wider, M.D., tells SELF. “It is actually more common for women to have different breast shape and size than absolutely symmetrical breasts,” Nazanin Khakpour, M.D., F.A.C.S., a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer at Moffitt Cancer Center, tells SELF. “They are sisters, not twins.”
The differences can range from being really subtle to being really…not subtle, Therese B. Bevers, M.D., professor of clinical cancer prevention and the medical director of the Cancer Prevention Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center, tells SELF. “Some women have a one or two cup size difference between their breasts,” she says.
A lot of it has to do with genetics, but losing or gaining weight can play a role, too.
If you’ve always had breasts that aren’t perfectly identical, it doesn’t mean something is wrong with you—it’s simply the way they are, Sherry Ross, M.D., a women’s health expert at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif., and author of She-ology: The Definitive Guide to Women’s Intimate Health. Period., tells SELF. Your ears, eyes, feet, and labia aren’t carbon copies, she points out, so why should your boobs be identical? A lot of this is dictated by your genes, she says, and if your mom and grandmother have mismatched boobs, the odds are pretty high that you do, too.
Your boobs are also partially made up of fat (along with connective tissue and milk ducts), and their size can be influenced by weight changes. When you gain and lose weight, it doesn’t always happen uniformly all over your body—and the same is true with your boobs, Dr. Bevers says. As a result, “it’s definitely possible to gain or lose weight asymmetrically in the breasts,” she says.
Sometimes an underlying medical or skeletal condition like scoliosis, a curvature of the spine, or deformities in a woman’s chest wall, can create the appearance of asymmetrical breasts, Dr. Wider says. But these are less common causes than genetics and weight changes.
While asymmetrical breasts are completely normal, you should pay attention if this is a new thing for you.
If you develop new asymmetry like a sudden increase or decrease in the volume of a breast, you should take note, Dr. Khakpour says. That’s especially true if that change comes with other symptoms like skin retraction, or thickening, dimpling, or a change in color of your breast, she says. “That should be brought to the attention of a physician immediately as these may be the first presentation of certain types of tumors,” she says.
That said, don’t panic and automatically assume it’s cancer. “It’s most likely weight gain or loss,” Dr. Bevers says. She regularly sees patients who complain that their bra is fitting tightly over one breast but not the other and, after a workup comes back clear, she discovers that they recently gained or lost some weight.
Still, if one boob suddenly seems a little…off, check in with your doctor, says Dr. Bevers. “There’s a very good possibility that it’s benign, but any new symptoms warrant medical attention.”

Uneven Breast: Is ONE of Your Breasts Larger?
Surgery Solutions for An Uneven Breast
Every woman has some noticeable differences between their left and right breasts or nipple areas. It is not uncommon, in fact, for one breast to be a lot larger than the other breast. Perhaps you simply have different shaped breasts. Or the breast on one side of your body falls lower on the chest wall than the other. Perhaps the nipples appear mismatched in colour, shape, location or size.
But some women have very noticeably uneven breast volumes (or different breast and nipple shapes, sizes or positions). This is a condition called asymmetric breasts. Surgery can sometimes help reduce the differences.
The Ultimate Guide to Breast Surgery
What does the medical term “Asymmetric Breasts” mean?
The definition of asymmetric breasts or asymmetric nipples is “breasts and/or nipples that are noticeably different in size, shape, colour, location or volume.” This term simply means you have two noticeably differently shaped breasts – often with variances in breast size (volume), shape, nipple appearance and nipple position.
Corrective asymmetric breast surgery can typically even up the breasts size. However, even after corrective breast surgery, your breasts are still going to be “more like sisters than identical twins.” That’s just the nature of breasts and bodies.
My Breasts Are Uneven, Should I Have Surgery and, if so, What Surgery Will Correct Different Sized Breasts?
Typically, the left breast is larger than the right breast, but this can vary from woman to woman. Up to 20% difference in breast sizes is usually not overly problematic for most women. Generally, there is not a medical concern with an uneven breast or different breast sizes, although it might affect posture and balance if it’s very severe.
It can also impede with finding a good fitting bra or with wearing different fashions. That noted, if your breasts suddenly change in size (rather than a lifelong difference), you do want to have it investigated immediately to be sure nothing is amiss, health wise.
Surgery to Correct an Uneven Breast or Different Sized Nipples is a Personal Decision
Surgery is a serious endeavour, and should not be taken lightly. Further, surgery results can vary from person to person. It really depends on the overall physique and the skin condition of the breasts, as well as where the nipples sit (nipple position), as to whether or not a woman wants to correct the asymmetry with a breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation procedure
Further, if you have large, pendulous breasts that cause back pain, neck pain or shoulder bra-strap dig ins, then you may want to explore your breast reduction surgery options.
One Breast A Lot Larger than The Other Breast?
Breast surgery can help if you suffer from uneven sized breasts or very different looking breasts on your left side versus your right side. It’s not uncommon to have asymmetric breasts. For some women, it can make clothes shopping and bra shopping nearly impossible.
But surgery to correct for asymmetry – where one breast is a lot larger or bigger than the other breast – is a complex procedure. It’s not as simple as choosing a different sized implant. Other issues – such as nipple asymmetry or ptosis (drooping) come into effect.
Fixing one issue during breast surgery for asymmetric, or different sized breasts, can sometimes make other asymmetries or breast concerns more noticeable.

3. Use hot and cold water
This is another effective technique to even out the difference in the breast size. Use of hot and cold water alternately will improve blood flow in the skin and this will, in turn, promote collagen production to keep the skin firm. All you have to do is pour slightly warm water over your smaller breast for one minute and then follow it by cold water for 30 seconds. You should let the warm water flow for more time as compared to the cold water. Repeat it about three times. You can do this after your shower every day.
Why Are My Breasts Uneven?
A lot of things come in matched sets, but breasts aren’t usually one of them. Breast asymmetry is when breasts vary in size, shape, or position. And it’s very common.
It’s common for even fully developed breasts to be different sizes. Size differences can be a result of normal growth variations that are influenced by genetics. That means that if your mother or grandmother had uneven breasts, you probably will too.
Breast asymmetry can be noticed as early as puberty. During adolescence, or your teenage years, breasts start to develop. One breast may grow more quickly than the other.
It’s not clear why this happens. One explanation is that girls may have more breast tissue cells on one side. The cells may be more sensitive to the effects of the hormone estrogen, which causes breast tissue cells to grow.
Usually, the other breast will start to “bud” shortly after. However, it can take a while for it to catch up and even out.
In a 2018 study of 300 women requesting breast implants, 91% naturally had asymmetrical breasts.

Medical Conditions Affecting Breast Size
Different conditions can affect the symmetry of your breasts.
Pregnancy
Breasts may become uneven during pregnancy. Hormone changes and the body getting ready for breastfeeding make breasts grow larger and sometimes lopsided.
During breastfeeding, breasts can range in size. This is especially true if your baby favors nursing, or feeding, on one side. As long as your child is getting enough breast milk and growing at a steady rate, you don’t need to worry about uneven breasts.
Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia
Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) is a condition where there’s excessive tissue growth in the breasts’ milk ducts. ADH isn’t cancer, but it may increase your risk of getting cancer in the future.
In this condition, there are more cells lining the duct than normal. Some of these cells are irregular in shape and size. This can lead to benign (non-cancer) lumps in the breast that affect its appearance.
Hypoplastic Breasts
Hypoplastic breasts, or underdeveloped breasts, can be small, thin, spaced far apart, or very uneven. The areola (the area around the nipple) may appear very large too.
There’s usually not a cause you can identify for breast hypoplasia. But it may be driven by hormones. Sometimes it happens because of an injury or a medical condition.
For example, there’s a reported case of a teenage girl who had one breast smaller than the other after normal breast development. In her case, it happened after she had an infection called mononucleosis.
Juvenile Hypertrophy
Juvenile hypertrophy is a rare condition where one breast grows much larger than the other. The cause is unknown. But researchers believe it’s related to hormone sensitivity or hormone production.
According to research published in 2017, this condition happens during puberty. It usually happens after a six-month period of extreme breast growth followed by a longer period of slower but continued breast growth. Juvenile hypertrophy can be corrected with surgery.
When Should I Worry About Uneven Breasts?
Uneven breasts aren’t usually something to be concerned about. That said, researchers are finding that uneven breasts may be a risk factor for breast cancer.
A study published in the journal Breast Cancer in 2015 reported that women whose breasts have a 20% size difference may have a greater chance of developing breast cancer.
More research needs to be done to understand the role that breast asymmetry has on breast cancer risk.
For now, let your healthcare provider know if you see any change in the size, shape, or appearance of either breast. Your healthcare provider may recommend certain breast exams, like a mammogram, a breast ultrasound, or a breast biopsy.
Recap
Some studies suggest that uneven breasts might raise the risk of breast cancer. More research needs to be done to see if this is truly the case. Talk to your healthcare provider if you notice any changes in your breasts.
Daily Life and Coping
Uneven breasts are very common and usually nothing to worry about. However, at a certain point, it might be hard to hide the difference in breast size. Women have reported that a size difference of 30% or more is hard to hide in normal clothes.
If you’re concerned or self-conscious about your breasts, try seeing a professional bra fitter. They can help you find a bra that fits both sides of your chest and hides any difference.
If you’re uncomfortable about how uneven your breasts are to the point that affects your daily life, consider meeting with a counselor or mental health professional. They can give you support and guide you toward learning to accept your body.
Join an online support group about body image or breast size to connect with women who deal with the same issues.
If you can’t accept your breasts or they’re causing you health problems, surgical procedures can help improve the symmetry of your breasts.
Summary
Breast asymmetry, or uneven breasts, can be very common. Breasts can become uneven for a number of reasons—genetics, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain medical conditions.
You may not mind having uneven breasts, or you might feel uncomfortable. If you’re embarrassed or self-conscious about your breasts, there are options for you depending on what you prefer.
Can folklore methods predict a boy or girl?
Here are some surprising and popular myths when it comes to predicting your baby’s sex. There’s no good evidence that any of them are true, but they’re a fun way to guess whether you’re having a boy or a girl.
Fact or fiction? They say you’re more likely to be carrying a boy if…
- Your baby’s heartbeat is lower than 140 beats per minute.
- You’re carrying all out front.
- You’re carrying low.
- You’re blooming in pregnancy.
- You didn’t suffer from morning sickness in your first trimester.
- Your right breast is bigger than your left.
- You look at yourself in the mirror for at least a minute and your pupils dilate.
- You crave salty food or protein, such as cheese and meat.
- Your feet become cold more quickly than before you were pregnant.
- You tie a ring (traditionally your wedding ring) to some thread, hang it over your stomach, and it swings from side to side.
- Your skin becomes dry.
- You don’t suffer from pregnancy mood swings.
- When asked to show your hands, you present them palms down.
- You were the more dominant partner during sex when you conceived.
- You eat a clove of garlic and the smell seeps out of your pores.
- You add your age at the time of conception to the number of the month you conceived, and the resulting number is even. For example, if you conceived in April (the fourth month of the year) and were age 26 at the time, 4 + 26 = 30.

- You were the less dominant partner during sex when you conceived.
- You eat a clove of garlic, but you don’t smell of it.
- You add your age at the time of conception to the number of the month you conceived, and the resulting number is odd. For example, if you conceived in April (the fourth month of the year) and were age 27 at the time, 4 + 27 = 31.
- Your hair has become thinner and dull during pregnancy.
- The hair on your legs is growing at the same speed it did before you conceived.
- You don’t suffer from pregnancy headaches.
- Your pillow is to the south when you sleep.
- You lie on your right side when sleeping.

Breast enlargement in males: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia
Normal hormone changes are the most common cause of breast development in newborns, boys, and men. There are other causes as well.
HORMONE CHANGES
Breast enlargement is usually caused by an imbalance of estrogen (female hormone) and testosterone (male hormone). Males have both types of hormones in their body. Changes in the levels of these hormones, or in how the body uses or responds to these hormones, can cause enlarged breasts in males.
In newborns, breast growth is caused by being exposed to estrogen from the mother. About one half of boy babies are born with enlarged breasts, called breast buds. They usually go away in 2 to 6 months, but can last longer.
In preteens and teens, breast growth is caused by normal hormone changes that occur in puberty. More than one half of boys develop some breast enlargement during puberty. Breast growth often goes away in about 6 months to 2 years.
In men, hormone changes due to aging can cause breast growth. This may occur more often in overweight or obese men and in men age 50 and older.
HEALTH CONDITIONS
Certain health problems can cause breast growth in adult men, including:
Rare causes include:
MEDICINES AND MEDICAL TREATMENT
Some medicines and treatments that can cause breast growth in men include:
- Cancer chemotherapy
- Hormone treatment for prostate cancer, such as flutamide (Proscar), or for enlarged prostate, such as finasteride (Propecia) or bicalutamide
- Radiation treatment of the testicles
- HIV/AIDS medicines
- Corticosteroids and anabolic steroids
- Estrogen (including those in soy products)
- Heartburn and ulcer medicines, such as cimetidine (Tagamet) or proton pump inhibitors
- Anti-anxiety medicines, such as diazepam (Valium)
- Heart medicines, such as spironolactone (Aldactone), digoxin (Lanoxin), amiodarone, and calcium channel blockers
- Antifungal medicines, such as ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- Antibiotics such as metronidazole (Flagyl)
- Tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil)
- Herbals such as lavender, tea tree oil, and dong quai
- Opioids
DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE
Using certain substances can cause breast enlargement:
- Alcohol
- Amphetamines
- Heroin
- Marijuana
- Methadone
Gynecomastia has also been linked to exposure to endocrine disrupters. These are common chemicals often found in plastics.
Men who have enlarged breasts may have an increased risk for breast cancer. Breast cancer in men is rare. Signs that may suggest breast cancer include:
- One-sided breast growth
- Firm or hard breast lump that feels like it is attached to the tissue
- Skin sore over the breast
- Bloody discharge from the nipple
90,000 Is one breast larger or smaller than the other? Does the bust grow?
Often women can observe details in their appearance that do not suit them. It can be the nose, eyes, ears, etc., but especially close attention is paid to the chest, since it emphasizes the figure and is the subject of sexuality. But it often happens that one breast is larger than the other.
Unfortunately, all women have breast asymmetry.For some, the difference may be a few millimeters, which is not considered a cause for concern. But for some, one breast may be 1-2 sizes larger than the other. This aesthetic defect is quite rare. Typically, this difference is due to resection (removal or partial removal) of the breast. This tends to be embarrassing and anxious for your health. There can be several reasons for breast asymmetry, as well as ways to solve this problem. In this article, we will look at the common causes of changes in the size of the breast, as well as ways to solve them.
Causes of breast asymmetry
There may be several reasons why one breast is smaller than the other. But all of them can be divided into two groups: congenital and acquired. The first option can occur due to hormonal disruption, abnormalities in genetics, or trauma at birth. Also, in adolescence, girls can observe such a problem that one breast has become larger than the other. At the age of 13-16, there is no reason for concern because of this, but if by the age of 17-20 the asymmetry has remained, then this is a reason for going to the doctor.
As for the acquired asymmetry, there are many more reasons. Mostly found:
- Breast deformity during pregnancy and childbirth;
- serious damage to the breast;
- oncology;
- consequences of surgical intervention in the chest area;
- cyst;
- fatty necrosis;
- change in hormone levels.
90,015 disorders in the spine;
In this case, breast asymmetry can be expressed in several ways:
- one breast is lower than the other;
- significant difference in size between the right and left mammary glands;
- different positions and sizes of nipples;
- lack of breast volume, etc.
If one breast has increased, then you need to immediately get an appointment with a mammologist to establish the cause of the deformity.At the appointment, the doctor will examine the mammary glands, prescribe an examination and, if necessary, treatment. It should be borne in mind that it is not worth delaying the trip to a specialist, because more serious diseases may occur.
Make an appointment with the experienced specialists of the clinic who have helped thousands of patients:
- Sergey Vasilyevich Sidorov, oncologist-mammologist, plastic surgeon, with 40 years of experience, author of several methods for breast reconstruction after removal;
- Nogaytseva Ekaterina Sergeevna, mammologist oncologist, plastic surgeon, talented doctor, helps patients to preserve breasts, correct shape and size;
- Ishchenko Elena Mikhailovna, oncologist-mammologist, 25 years of experience, will help maintain the health of the breast, detect the disease at an early stage, specialize in the diagnosis of malignant formations of the mammary glands.
Breast asymmetry correction
If the breast alone has become larger, and no diseases have been identified, then you can contact a plastic surgeon who will perform mammoplasty and eliminate all defects.
Today, several methods of eliminating breast asymmetry are used:
- Breast augmentation with implants. This method can correct almost any type of asymmetry of the mammary glands.Based on the problem, as well as the wishes of the patient, one or two implants can be installed, but of different sizes.
- Lipolifting is an excellent option for a slight increase in one breast. This procedure involves transferring fat from other parts of the body to the breast.
- Reduction mammoplasty – reduction of one breast. This operation is performed if there is a significant increase in one of the mammary glands with the normal development of the second.In this case, the installation of the implant is not necessary.
- Mastopexy is an excellent solution when one breast is lower than the other. Thanks to a lift, it is possible to correct such a defect as sagging of the mammary gland, especially after breastfeeding.
- Correction of the size and shape of the nipple and halos. This procedure allows you to eliminate various defects in the nipples.
- Breast reconstruction after breast removal or a one-stage operation to remove a malignant tumor and restore its shape and size.
If you notice that your breasts are one smaller than the other, then this is a reason to go to a mammologist. Modern medicine will help you identify the causes of asymmetry, as well as find ways to eliminate it. Pasman Clinic employs experienced plastic surgeons, doctors, who will help you to restore your breasts. The plastic surgeon will offer several methods of correction and recommend the best option, taking into account the health status and characteristics of the mammary glands, breast shape and the desired result.

90,000 One breast is bigger than the other: reasons for what to do
The girl covers her breasts with her hands: UGC
Why is one breast larger than the other? It is normal to ask this question, and there is nothing abnormal here.Normally, it is recommended to be examined by a mammologist once a year. If you do, then there is nothing to worry about. Let’s figure out the reasons and decide what can be done in such cases.
One breast is bigger than the other: reasons
In the United States, a study was conducted on 100 women who wanted to enlarge their breasts with implants. It turned out that 88 of them had different breast sizes. And I’ll tell you that it’s okay. Most of our body parts are not symmetrical.
When you are being examined by a doctor, he may order a mammogram, where the density of each breast will be clearly visible.This will help you understand how different breasts are and whether there is a danger in this.

How to enlarge breasts at home: simple ways
Consider the reasons why one breast is smaller than the other:
- Puberty. Changes during this period lead to the fact that one breast begins to grow faster than the other. Sometimes this difference is insignificant, and sometimes it is significant.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. During the period of gestation, the mammary glands increase.And if the baby prefers to feed on one side, then it is normal that one breast has become larger than the other.
- Atypical hyperplasia. What is it in simple terms? Explain: at the same time, excessive tissue growth is observed in the milk ducts of the breast. Benign lumps of different sizes are formed inside. This leads to the fact that the right breast is larger than the left, or vice versa.
- Hypoplastic breasts. Simply put, this is a situation where one breast is much larger than the other. The exact reasons for this condition are unknown, but presumably the problem is related to hormones, chest injuries.Sometimes one mammary gland completely atrophies.
- Youthful hypertrophy. The problem is similar to the previous case and is more often associated with hormonal disruption during puberty.
- Genetics. Yes, genes affect the strength of your ligaments and the elasticity of your skin. For this reason, one breast may be lower than the other or of different sizes.

How to recognize pregnancy without a test at home
These statements are confirmed by my colleague Brian Levine in his review for VerywellHealth.
When to worry? Asymmetrical breasts cause few problems for anyone, if it is not pronounced. You need to worry when the mammary glands were about the same, but recently you have noticed that one breast is larger than the other and hurts.
A sharp increase should alert you. If you feel lumps on palpation, see a doctor immediately. This may indicate the development of cancer of the gland, so do not delay. In my practice, there were several such cases when it was possible to save the lives of women.

Remember that most of the paired organs in our body do not develop symmetrically.Agree, more attention is paid to the chest. If you are not worried about different breasts and this condition of the mammary gland was originally, then there is no reason to be upset.
If the difference in breast size is quite significant, you experience some discomfort in everyday life, then I recommend:
- Purchase a special bra that will hide the unevenness.
- Consult a psychologist who can help you accept and love your body.
Practice shows that you are not alone: most women have breasts of different sizes.Read more about this in the medical review The Healthy. If you are a nursing mother, then remember that at this time the breast is filled with milk and increases, but after feeding it often becomes smaller than it was before pregnancy. Special nutrition and exercise can help restore breast volume naturally.

What if one breast is larger than the other and it was discovered recently? Be sure to see a doctor.He will examine you and may recommend procedures such as:
- Breast ultrasound. An ultrasound image will show if everything is in order and if there are any neoplasms. This will determine why the left breast is larger than the right one (and vice versa).
- MRI. If one breast has enlarged in a short time, tomography helps to identify cancer and other pathologies. The procedure is also useful for women with a high risk of developing cancer due to heredity.
- Biopsy. This is the final procedure.If the breast has become larger, and the MRI showed an abnormal result, then a tissue sample is taken from the breast and sent for examination. If the result is negative, the doctor will recommend regular check-ups.

90,000 Why one breast is smaller than the other and 11 more “indecent” questions about your bodies | Health
Is it possible to get thrush due to thongs?
Yes, but not only because of them.The wrong underwear – regardless of its model – easily provokes the multiplication of the candida fungus, which, in fact, causes the unpleasant symptoms of the mentioned disease. But it’s not about the shape of the panties, but about the material from which they are made. If your laundry doesn’t breathe, retains moisture and dries poorly, it becomes an ideal breeding ground for microorganisms, so forget about vaunted cotton and cheap synthetics and choose fabrics such as microfiber, modal, tackle and meryl.Pay attention to what you are wearing over your underwear – for example, do not wear elastic tights on hot days and do not get carried away by dragging shorts and belts.
Are cystitis sexually transmitted?
No. Most often, urinary tract infections are caused by bacteria entering the urethra from your own intestines. This, in turn, is usually the result of poor hygiene and weakening of the immune system, and not sexual intercourse. And it is simply impossible to transmit the disease to a partner.
What if one breast is larger than the other?
Nothing.For most of the fairer sex, breasts can differ not only in size, but also in shape, fullness, elasticity, and so on. It all depends on the structure of the mammary glands and the distribution of adipose tissue from above. Note: a lot in our body develops asymmetrically – the right kidney is slightly lower than the left one, the right lung consists of three lobes, the left one consists of two; what can I say – many people have feet and palms also vary in size. However, no one asks the question whether this is normal.It’s just that the female breast, for obvious reasons, enjoys more attention than the hands and feet.
But! If the breasts have always been asymmetrical or become so after feeding the baby, this, as we understand it, is not a cause for concern. But if the changes occurred suddenly, it is better to contact a mammologist: perhaps malignant formations have appeared in the tissue.
Is it true that having a lush bust is more likely to get cancer?
It depends on what caused this splendor.If your breasts are naturally full, that is, large compared to the proportions of your entire body, you do not need to worry. There is nothing dangerous in this. But if you owe extra weight to the impressive size, the risk of breast cancer is really higher for you.
However, without exception, all owners of an enviable bust should still visit their doctor more often. The excess soft tissue makes it difficult to detect tumors on self-examination, and you can easily miss the moment when the disease is still at an early stage.
What if the chair … turns green?
It’s too early to get scared. Oddly enough, exactly what we “load” into it comes out of our body, that is, if you dine with an excessive amount of fresh greens or even an artificially dyed semi-finished product – and voila. In a day or two, you will see what you see.
In general, no matter how disgusting it may look, green is not a reason to panic. But too dark, brown and almost black can indicate dangerous conditions associated with bleeding in the stomach or intestines.In this case, go to the doctor.
Why do we need hair “there”?
To protect the delicate skin of the perineum during intercourse. Friction and other physical contact can damage it, cause irritation and ultimately lead to micro-wounds. And infection will easily make its way into them; so it is better not to get carried away with “Brazilian” hair removal.
Is it true that some women are naturally incapable of orgasm?
Some – yes, but this phenomenon is extremely rare. On the other hand, from 30 to 60% of women of different ages complain of anorgasmia, but this is not due to physiology, but to the “head”.Many are hindered by complexes, others – by the memory of the first unsuccessful experience, but for the majority – the obsessive thought that “here again I can not.” In addition, some women simply do not know what exactly they want, and their men, in turn, do not undertake to research this issue.
Is it true that a baby’s gender can be affected by the conception posture?
No. The gender of the child depends on which sex chromosome is carried by the sperm that enters the egg. There are millions of spermatozoa, and the chromosomes are distributed in them approximately in half, so the chances, as they say, are fifty to fifty.Separate studies have tried to identify the relationship between the sex of the child and the stage of the woman’s menstrual cycle, but the resulting “calendars of conception” were also not recognized as 100% reliable.
What should I do if my groin sweats a lot in the heat?
There are a lot of sweat glands in the groin, as in the armpits, so the release of a large amount of sweat in heat or during exertion is unpleasant, but inevitable. Only, unlike underarms, you can’t save yourself with deodorant.
The only way out is to wear loose, breathable clothing and underwear.As we already know, excessive moisture and overheating in the perineum area is fraught with fungal infections, so if you are already sweating, hurry up to take a good shower and throw your underwear into the wash.
Can acne be squeezed out?
Not a good idea. Pustules form when sebum mixes with dead cells of the epidermis and bacteria begin to multiply in this “quagmire”. If you try to remove pus, ugly scars may remain on the skin, plus there is a chance to bring even more infection into the wound.
To avoid ulcers, wash your face often to remove excess sebum, and use a scrub to exfoliate. If acne pops up despite your best efforts, consult a dermatologist: there are also medications for this scourge.
Can I pick my ears with cotton swabs?
Without getting carried away. Despite its unsightly appearance and offensive odor, earwax is actually beneficial because it protects the eardrums from dirt, bacteria, and mechanical damage.So there is no point in trying to get rid of it completely. Obviously, excess of this substance does not look hygienic at all, but it usually dries out, falls out or is washed out when you take a bath. If not, grab a cotton swab. But it can be used only on the outer part of the auricle and in no case should it be thrust deep into the ear! Firstly, you will only push the sulfur deeper and can provoke an infection, and secondly, you risk simply damaging the eardrum.
It happens that too much sulfur is released, a plug forms, and this can even affect hearing. But in this case, cotton swabs will not help even more. Refer to Lore, he will solve your problem with a few simple manipulations.
What if a mosquito bit me “there”?
Same as for a bite anywhere else: no special care is required for the “special zone”. Just remember: with an insect bite, you can confuse specific rashes that occur with herpes and other STDs.If the mark does not go away within a few days or changes in shape and size, contact your venereologist.

Breast asymmetry: the problem can be corrected
Slight differences in the size, shape, height of the left and right breasts, subtle discrepancies in the size or location of the nipples occur in most women and are normal variants. When asymmetry is pronounced, difficulties in choosing underwear and clothes can be aggravated by psychological discomfort, problems with posture and uneven load on the spine, the development of complexes, difficulties in communication and building relationships.Is it possible to correct mammary glands that are different in shape or size, and not just mask the defect?
Causes of the problem
Breast asymmetry can be congenital or acquired, leading to its development:
- hormonal disorders;
- age-related changes; 90 016 90 015 injuries;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- oncology;
- surgical interventions;
- posture disorder.
These factors contribute to the development of uneven sagging (ptosis), a violation of the formation of one breast (asymmetric enlargement or underdevelopment) with the normal development of the second, asymmetry of the areoles, and the mismatch of the mammary glands in shape and size.
When to seek the advice of a doctor
It is necessary to determine the severity of asymmetry. Differences in size, shape, position of nipples and areolas can be minimal – in which case correction is not required. A visit to the clinic should be planned if the differences are noticeable or pronounced: one breast is 20% or more larger than the other, the breasts are asymmetrically located.
An effective solution to the problem
Visually masking the discrepancy will help the selection of special underwear, but asymmetry can only be cured by surgery.To select an individual correction scheme in each specific case, you need to come to the clinic for a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Depending on the nature of the problem and its severity, the doctor will recommend a suitable method:
- Slight asymmetries can be corrected with lipofilling. The procedure involves filling the smaller breasts with the patient’s fatty tissue taken from another area of the body. The method is low-traumatic, performed under local anesthesia and involves quick rehabilitation.Using your own adipose tissue eliminates the risk of rejection.
- In case of ptosis of the mammary gland as a result of age-related changes, pregnancy and lactation, sudden weight loss, a surgical lift can be recommended. Such an operation will correct asymmetry, drooping of the nipple and areola, and will correct the shape of the breast.
- A combination of different methods will help to eliminate more pronounced asymmetry: lifting + implants; implants + lipofilling; lifting + lipofilling, etc. The combination of methods is selected individually during the examination at the consultation.
How to choose the correct scheme for correcting asymmetry
When drawing up an operation plan, the doctor will assess the nature of the asymmetry, the degree of its severity, take into account the individual characteristics of the patient, the state of health and wishes for the result. Before the intervention, you will need to undergo an examination, pass tests in order to exclude contraindications.
The treatment regimen may include surgery on only one breast: augmentation, lifting or reduction. More often, simultaneous correction of both breasts is required, sometimes different methods are used for this, breast implants of different shapes and sizes.The plastic surgeon will provide detailed information on consultation. The doctor will talk about proper preparation, about all the restrictions in the rehabilitation period, explain how the intervention will take place. The LaserOne clinic uses high-quality implants from world-leading manufacturers – industry leaders; the products are given a lifetime warranty.
Contraindications – in which cases the operation will have to be canceled or postponed
- Age up to 18 years or until full puberty.The intervention is impractical to perform until the mammary glands are fully formed.
- The period of pregnancy, breastfeeding.
- Oncology.
- Infectious diseases or exacerbation of chronic diseases.
When you can see and evaluate the result
Lift, augmentation or breast reduction operations , nipple correction and areolas are performed under general anesthesia in the clinic. After the intervention, the patient needs to stay in the hospital for 1–2 days under the supervision of the medical staff.After the operation, it is recommended to wear compression garments for 1-2 months. The length of the recovery period depends on the treatment regimen and the complexity of the operation. As a rule, the effect can be assessed after 3-4 months.
Schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon at the LaserOne clinic at a suitable time, get an individual scheme for correcting asymmetry.

One breast is bigger than the other at 16 years old.What if the left breast is larger than the right? Causes of breast asymmetry
Among the various questions of nursing mothers, the question of different breast sizes and different amounts of milk in the right and left breasts is quite common.
Moms can detect the difference between breasts at any age of the child – and in a month, and in six months, and closer to a year. Of course, the younger the baby’s age, the easier it is to return the breasts to the same size, however, even if for several months one breast is noticeably larger than the other, you can still change the organization of feeding so that the size becomes equal.
Why did breasts become different?
The main reason the breasts are different is not the same stimulation. It turns out that one breast receives a request for more milk, and the other for less. Here are the situations in which this can happen:
- One breast is sucked correctly by the baby, and the other is not;
- Mom is pumping and from the beginning she has been pumping better on one breast than the other;
- mother mostly feeds more with one breast, because it is more convenient for her – for example, she wears all the time in a sling at one breast;
- mother always feeds only one breast at night;
- In one of the breasts, lactation was suppressed – for example, with a long compress with camphor.
Depending on the reason, the actions of the mother to align the sizes will differ slightly.
How to align the size of the breasts?
So, we found the supposed cause. Probably, it is already clear that now the main change in the organization of feeding should be aimed at reducing the stimulation of the larger breasts and increasing the stimulation of the smaller ones. It is not difficult to do this when the asymmetry is caused by night feeds on one side or predominantly single breastfeeding due to the convenience of the mother.Specifically, it is enough to change the following:
- always start feeding with a smaller breast, then give a larger one, after a larger one again a smaller one;
- give less for all short applications;
- if the baby likes to sleep, sucking on the breast, or falls asleep for a long time at the breast, try to have him suckle the smaller breast during such periods;
- Try to feed mostly from your smaller breast at night.
- If you feel discomfort from filling in your larger breasts, attach your baby to it – but not for long, until the discomfort disappears.
As a result of these actions, you will get that the smaller breast is empty all the time, and the baby actively stimulates it to produce milk, and the large breast should not be emptied to the end, which will entail a slight decrease in milk production in this breast. Thus, gradually in the smaller breast, the amount of milk will increase, and its size will become larger; and in a larger breast, on the contrary, milk will become smaller, and the size will decrease. As soon as the size is evened out, try so that the baby sucks both breasts about the same in a day.
Special situations
You may have noticed that we have not dealt with all the causes of breast asymmetry. The fact is that in other situations everything will not be so simple.
The baby sucks on one breast incorrectly.
In this case, it will be possible to align the dimensions only if the mother teaches the baby to suckle correctly and smaller breasts. Even if you have a flat or inverted nipple on this breast, in most cases, the baby will be able to suckle this breast correctly if it is fed in a certain way.A consultant can help you with this. Once you have mastered proper latching on your special breast, you can start stimulating the smaller breasts to produce milk – as described above.
Mom is pumping and you always get more from one breast.
This situation also requires consultation with a specialist. Here you need to figure out why mom is pumping, and whether she needs it. In many cases, mums would like to stop pumping but don’t know how to do it without harming their breasts.A consultant will help with this. Together with his mother, he will draw up a program to reduce pumping – taking into account the fact that breasts are different in size and in milk production. Plus the actions already listed above to change breast stimulation.
Lactation was suppressed in one breast
, or mom had surgery
on one chest.
Unfortunately, in this case there is no guarantee that in the end the breasts will be completely equal in size. One way or another, you can try increasing the stimulation of the smaller breasts, but if this does not bear any fruit, do not despair – the baby can be fed with one breast.When you finish breastfeeding, try to do it as smoothly as possible – then your breastfeeding will most likely return to its pre-pregnant size, and equalize with the smaller one.
Breast asymmetry prevention
Do you have the same breasts so far and do not want them to become different in size? Then pay attention to the following points:
- breastfeed with both breasts evenly throughout the day;
- at night try to feed your baby with one or the other breast;
- make sure that both breasts are sucked correctly by the baby;
- in case of chest congestion, avoid camphor compresses, seek qualified help in a timely manner;
- If you need to express, try to express the same volume from both breasts.
And finally, if this article did not answer any of your questions, please call us and ask! We will gladly help you.
It is unlikely that any girl can call her figure corresponding to modern model ideals. However, let’s not take everything to the absolute. It is necessary in spite of even the presence of any physical imperfections. One of the most common shortcomings, which sometimes brings grief to even the brightest and most spectacular women, is the difference in the size of the right and left breasts.It can be both very insignificant and quite noticeable visually. Why do some ladies have one different? Is it okay? Are there ways to eliminate this feature of the body? We will answer all these questions in order.
So, why did one girl’s bust grow evenly, while the other had breasts of different sizes? The thing is that the mammary glands in the process of turning a girl into a woman are formed separately. Yes, you are not mistaken, the breast is not one organ, but two. And they each grow in their own way, independently of each other.Why, then, do some bust have no differences? In fact, they are, just sometimes quite insignificant and invisible to the eye.
However, quite often girls complain that at first everything was “normal”, and then it turned out, for example, that the left breast is larger than the right one. If we consider such a change in the body from a negative point of view, then this process can symbolize serious hormonal problems. If this also affected you, then for your own peace of mind, find time to visit a specialist mammologist.He will probably order several blood tests for hormones, as well as check the breasts for lumps and neoplasms. In general, such a doctor must be visited regularly (at least once every six months) in order to timely identify signs of the development of serious diseases in the body.
Why, after feeding the baby with milk, did it happen that one is different? This question often haunts young mothers who suddenly noticed such changes in their figure. Indeed, during feeding, the glands sometimes swell very unevenly.It depends on how much milk will come to each of them. If one breast produces more product, or the baby, for some reason unknown to the mother, prefers to eat from the left and not from the right (or vice versa), then it is quite possible that in the end the difference will become very significant. Is there any way to prevent this? Of course, more often than not you cannot force a child to change his tastes. But it is quite possible to develop the habit of eating from both breasts. To do this, it is enough to offer him different ones every time.
So that you do not end up with one breast larger than the other after you stop feeding, carefully monitor the volume of milk. Gently massage the glands using special procedures that specialists may recommend to you. Be sure to knead the hard lumps to keep the milk from stagnating. These simple techniques will help you avoid in the future not only the appearance of differences in breast size, but also a host of other problems like mastopathy.
If you have one breast larger than the other and this fact haunts, there are several ways to change the size of the bust.The simplest, but at the same time the most dangerous and expensive is plastic surgery. The surgeon may well adjust to the desired result. However, it is always worth remembering the consequences of this kind of intervention in your body. There is another option – a set of special physical exercises. It will help you tone up over time so that the bust will become the same size. However, if the difference between the right and left breasts is not so significant, then you should once again think about taking any action at all.After all, every woman is unique. Let this be your little piquant highlight.
The mammary glands, like any other organs in the human body, are not exactly the same size. If the difference is small, this is considered normal and does not require medical attention. When one breast is one or two sizes larger than the other, then such a violation negatively affects the woman’s psyche and requires examination. But such an anomaly happens quite rarely, and most often the asymmetry of the mammary glands is associated with the lactation period and disappears after its completion.
Types of asymmetry
Women of any age face the difference in the size of the mammary glands.
Often their asymmetry is invisible to others, and the girl herself does not pay attention to it. But with a noticeable difference in the volume, direction of the nipples and the diameter of the halo, serious complexes can develop, leading to deep psychological problems.
In medicine, there are many cases where one breast is markedly different from the other. This feature can be congenital or acquired.
Symmetry character | Reasons | Explanation |
Congenital | The asymmetry depends on the hormonal development of the young girl. Occurs when her body is faced with various disorders and diseases | Attention should be paid to important female hormones such as progesterone and estrogen. These hormones are responsible for the proper growth of the mammary glands. Estrogen regulates the proper development of the cell structure.Progesterone is responsible for the required amount of alveoli, milk ducts and milk itself |
Acquired | Asymmetry occurs due to injuries, abortions, sharp fluctuations in weight, past diseases and diseases of the mammary glands themselves. This type includes changes in the shape and size of the breast during pregnancy and lactation. | During pregnancy and feeding, there is a sharp release of hormones. The mechanical effect on the chest also affects its abnormal growth and formation.Injury to the chest area increases the risk of breast asymmetry |
Yes
three degrees of asymmetry:
- light: inconspicuous;
- medium: one mammary gland is one third larger than the other;
- heavy: when the second half is greater than or much lower than the first.
Asymmetry subdivided
for the following types:
- underdevelopment of only one breast;
- varying degrees of sagging;
- assorted nipples and pigmentation;
- bilateral asymmetric hyperplasia;
- unilateral underdevelopment of the chest and muscles.
How do I correct the size difference myself?
If the asymmetry is small, it can be corrected with simple measures:
- 1.
Exercise to strengthen the pectoral muscles. By giving them tone, you can achieve the necessary pull-up. - 2.
Wear a corrective bra. It is in addition to exercise. - 3.
Do a vacuum massage to help improve blood circulation in the chest area.
A slight difference in size can be easily corrected visually by applying small tweaks, such as:
- push-ap bra;
- sweater or dress with polka dots;
- Garments with diagonal stripes and fabric ribs;
- print, checkerboard and other patterns on clothes;
- Yoke-shaped collar;
- neckerchief and shawl collar.
All of these clothing additions and graphic colors mask the problem.
If one breast is significantly larger in size than the other, resort to surgical methods, which are the most effective way to eliminate this problem. But he has many contraindications, including the age of up to 25 years.
Pregnancy and lactation
Breast asymmetry during pregnancy and lactation is due to the anatomical structure and hormones.
The female breast contains a large number of alveoli, which are formed by glands that secrete breast milk.The fluid is excreted through the ducts into the lactiferous sinuses. Milk accumulates in them. Connective and adipose tissue passes between the ducts and alveoli, which is responsible for the size of the female bust.
Reasons why there is a difference in breast size during pregnancy and lactation:
- improper preparation for the feeding process;
- incorrect feeding;
- cracked nipples;
- development of breast diseases (mastitis, mastopathy).
With the onset of pregnancy, hormonal changes and growth of glandular tissue occur
. Because of this, the mammary glands swell, increasing in size. Often at this time, the left breast becomes larger than the right one (or vice versa). This should not be a cause for concern, as it is a temporary condition and usually goes away after the end of breastfeeding.
During lactation, the following factors contribute to the difference in size:
- 1.One breast produces more milk than the other.
- 2.
The baby is not gripping the nipple correctly. - 3.
The milk remains in the breast as the baby does not completely suck it out. - 4.
Expression is incorrect and uneven.
With GW, do not worry that the difference in size will remain forever. And even more so to stop the period of breastfeeding. After the end of lactation, the asymmetry will disappear or will be noticeable only to the woman herself. Physical exercises will come to her aid, which will tighten the muscles and give them tone.
Measures to eliminate asymmetry during lactation
So that the mammary glands are not of different sizes, it is necessary to follow the recommendations of the obstetrician-gynecologist:
- 1.
Feed the baby from two breasts for the same duration. - 2.
Express the remaining milk. - 3.
Observe the hygiene of the nipples by treating them with anti-inflammatory ointment so as not to infect the infection.
The mammary glands, according to mammologists, can be of different sizes.However, this asymmetry, which is congenital or acquired at the stage of puberty, is most often minimal. What to do if one breast has become larger than the other and this is very noticeable? It is necessary to determine what reasons provoke this and how to eliminate them.
Main causes
Mammologists determine such factors that affect the change in the size of one breast, such as: congenital and acquired. Speaking of the latter, it is necessary to note mechanical injuries, the presence of tumors, as well as the period of pregnancy and subsequent breastfeeding.
In order to determine exactly why one breast is larger, it is necessary to undergo an appropriate examination by a mammologist. Further, based on the results of the diagnosis, a recovery course will be prescribed, which will allow to exclude this or that disease, if possible. You should pay attention to the fact that experts are strongly advised not to carry out self-treatment or use folk remedies that simply cannot eliminate certain health problems.
Congenital factors
First of all, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that each of us has a different body structure. It depends on the spine, the width of the hips and many other nuances. Including posture, the degree of curvature or evenness of the spinal column have the most direct impact on how the mammary glands are. That is why they may appear to be of different sizes, although, in fact, they are simply located at different levels. On the diagnosis of pain before menstruation.
If the main reason is this, then it is recommended to visit a specialized specialist who will tell you if it is possible in this particular case to correct the posture.
Speaking about other congenital factors that have nothing to do with posture or spine, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that:
- Breasts can develop in completely different ways even during puberty. This is due not only to hormonal changes, but also to other processes, for example, the presence of certain gynecological abnormalities;
- By the age of 17-20, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the difference between the size of the mammary glands, if it was within the framework of puberty, turns out to be insignificant;
- at the same time, if by the age of 20 it remains as noticeable, this is evidence that the anomaly will not pass on its own.Treatment may be needed if the woman is willing and ready to implement it.
In addition, if there are congenital abnormalities, then during pregnancy the difference between the size of both breasts may change even more. In order to cope with this, it is necessary to contact a mammologist; today, plastic surgeons are doing an excellent job with congenital changes in breast size. Of course, this does not eliminate the main reason, but a cosmetic defect is completely excluded.Factors for the appearance of discharge after pressure.
Acquired factors of asymmetry
Speaking about acquired factors, first of all, it is necessary to pay attention to mechanical damage and injury. In some cases, breast damage occurs as early as childhood, if the child was careless. It is important to take into account that the very fact of injury is forgotten over time, while mechanical damage in the structure of the mammary gland is “remembered”. The most difficult and problematic cases are those in which the so-called delayed reaction occurs.It lies in the fact that the body reacts to injury only over time. About the causes of tingling in the chest.
So, if mechanical damage was received in childhood, its consequences may appear during puberty or during pregnancy.
In this case, a thorough diagnosis will be required if a woman really wants to find out why one breast is larger than the other. If an inflammatory reaction is formed in the damaged area, then this process can spread to the second breast, which significantly aggravates the recovery of the body.In order to avoid all this, even if the damage seems minor, it is recommended to contact a mammologist as early as possible.
The next reason is a neoplasm in the area of the breast. This problem is undoubtedly considered the most serious of all presented. The fact is that as a result of the proliferation of pathological tissues in this area, one of the breasts begins to increase more seriously in size. To cope with this condition is possible only through the use of hormonal components or through a surgical operation.
In the overwhelming majority of cases, a woman independently identifies a neoplasm in the mammary gland if she regularly conducts self-examination. In addition, tumors can be detected as part of the diagnosis, which, ideally, should be carried out once every six to eight months. It is strongly recommended not to postpone appropriate treatment, because different neoplasms can behave in completely different scenarios.
So, in the overwhelming majority of cases, they are harmless and do not threaten a woman’s life.However, in some cases, such as fibroadenoma, the potential danger increases significantly. It is no less significant in the development of diffuse mastopathy, in which tumors can degenerate into malignant formations. Considering all this, women, if they have identified neoplasms in themselves, are shown a visit to a mammologist.
Another group of factors deserves special attention, due to which one breast is larger than the other. It should be noted that the reasons can be very different, namely:
- a nursing mother is expressing milk, however, in one of the mammary glands, the process of its formation is much faster, which provokes the subsequent asymmetry.It should be borne in mind that in this case, it develops extremely quickly and provokes numerous painful symptoms, even if the woman began to do treatment, pumping on time;
- night feeding, but one that is carried out only by one of the mammary glands;
- The baby suckles milk from one breast more thoroughly, which may be due to, say, a comfortable nipple shape.
In addition, there are cases in which the lactation algorithms of one of the mammary glands are suppressed due to any factors.
It can be associated with hormonal disorders, chronic or inflammatory diseases, and blockage of the milk ducts. This can be dealt with only if special treatment is carried out.
An equally rare factor should be considered a condition in which milk production is suppressed. This is usually associated with mastopathy or other breast conditions that the woman has experienced before. In order to avoid this, mammologists recommend, even at the stage of pregnancy planning, to undergo a special test, which will make it possible to determine whether there is such a predisposition and how high the likelihood of aggravation of lactation is.
It must also be remembered that cracking pain in the nipple area can complicate the process of breastfeeding or make it impossible. It is as a result of this that a woman, consciously or not, is more gentle in approaching the feeding algorithm of one of the mammary glands. In this case, experts recommend not to neglect elementary hygiene standards, adherence to all feeding rules. Another unconditional rule should be considered the use of various creams and gels, which are responsible for the healing of the presented area.
In general, speaking about how to cope with such a problem, mammologists are of the opinion that various vitamin complexes should be used. They are good because they make it possible to strengthen all the functions of the body, as well as improve the degree of its resistance. It is also strongly recommended to treat certain endocrine and gynecological diseases on time.
Considering a significant number of those factors that can potentially affect the asymmetry in the mammary gland, I would also like to note that there is no universal method of treatment.
In each case, the rehabilitation course and its features should be selected in a separate order, based on all the nuances in the state of health of a female representative.
Thus, the situation in which one mammary gland is larger or smaller than the other cannot be ignored and appropriate treatment. It is also strongly discouraged to self-medicate, even if all factors in the development of pathology are 100% known. It is an appeal to a mammologist, correct diagnosis and further treatment that will be the key to maintaining perfect health and correcting the shape of the breast, for which you do not need to do anything particularly difficult.

Why one breast is larger than the other and what can be done about it
When one breast is larger than the other, it causes a kind of aesthetic discomfort in women. Many young girls go to the doctor with such a problem. As a rule, such problems do not have a pathological basis. The bust of a woman is a paired organ. Like everything in the body, the breasts are not symmetrical. Therefore, a slight difference in size is considered normal. But when the pathology is clearly expressed, that is, one mammary gland is much larger from the other, you need to look for the cause of this deviation.
To understand why the breast grows disproportionately, the mammologist will help. In medicine, all women’s problems are divided into 2 forms:
- acquired;
- congenital.
Congenital pathology is caused by the girl’s hormonal background. According to medical observations, the growth of the mammary gland begins at about 9 years of age. At this time, the girl’s body begins to gradually transform and become an adult. The maturation of reproductive functions occurs.The volume of the breast, which will be the final result of a woman, is influenced by hormones that are produced by the ovaries.
According to experts, it is the ratio of progesterone and estrogen in the body of a teenager that forms the volume of the mammary glands.
If a diagnosis was made in a timely manner and a violation was found, then with adequate treatment in more than half of the patients, the size of the left breast becomes equal to the right one. Proportionality is achieved by about 19 years of age.If this does not happen, the problem continues to be treated further.
A woman’s breast is a rather vulnerable organ. If it is injured, then the blood supply in this area may be disrupted. This process in puberty can lead to the fact that one organ continues to grow, while the other stops in development.
The reasons for the acquired pathology, due to which one breast has become larger than the other, may be the following:
- pregnancy;
- mastopathy;
- the presence of tumor neoplasms of various etiology;
- is the result of mechanical action on the mammary gland.
An increase in the size of one organ may be temporary. Most often, the reasons are commonplace – a chest injury or an insect bite. In both circumstances, edema appears, which gives additional volume to the affected organ.
Breast symmetry disturbance during pregnancy
In fact, pregnancy has no direct effect on the growth of the mammary glands. It is because of the lactation process that the breasts begin to grow.
Milk in a woman’s breast is formed in the alveoli, which are formed from glandular tissue.This is where milk production takes place. It moves along the milk ducts and reaches the lactiferous sinuses, where it accumulates in anticipation of expression. Around the ducts and alveoli are adipose and connective tissues. When the glands become full, they increase in size. Accordingly, the breast itself begins to increase in volume.
The amount of milk secreted by a woman is regulated by the hormones prolactin and oxytocin. The very production of hormones occurs as a result of feeding the baby while the baby is breastfeeding.
The reasons for only one breast significantly enlarged during breastfeeding can be as follows:
- Presence of damage to the nipple. If one breast was injured, in most cases, a woman who does not want to experience pain while feeding a baby tries to feed the baby with a healthy organ. This leads to the fact that in one breast milk production is constantly stimulated, and in the other it is inhibited.
- Presence of breast pathologies.For example, mastopathy of one gland reduces the lactation process in it.
- Improper feeding. If a woman has enough milk, she can only breastfeed with one breast and express the other. In the case when alternation does not occur, the process of milk discharge is carried out in different ways, which can lead to asymmetry of the mammary glands.
- Inflammatory processes. They can occur due to insufficient hygienic care, due to milk residues in the ducts after feeding (leads to blockage) or under the influence of pathogenic microorganisms that can get into the microcracks on the nipples.
Breasts of different sizes, caused by pathological reasons, will not only create visual discomfort. Under these circumstances, pain symptoms or other signs of malaise may occur.
Mastopathy and other neoplasms
If one breast is larger than the other and the cause is not congenital or arising from breastfeeding, a woman should seek help from an oncologist or mammologist.
If during the first diagnosis, which is carried out by palpation method, the doctor finds a seal in the gland, the girl will need to undergo a number of additional studies.They will be aimed at determining the good quality of the process, as well as identifying the main cause of the development of pathology.
If the test results do not confirm the presence of cancer, the principle of treatment will be based on the normalization of hormone production. It should be borne in mind that disturbances in the functioning of the reproductive organs can also affect the growth of the mammary glands in puberty.
During treatment, the girl must follow all the doctor’s recommendations and undergo all scheduled examinations.All drugs used during the therapeutic course are prescribed individually for each patient. Uncontrolled intake of medications can lead to the development of rather serious pathologies.
Surgical intervention
In the event that the breast size could not be corrected by conservative methods, the woman can correct the cosmetic defect with the help of plastic surgery. It can be done to reduce a larger organ to a smaller one.Also, a woman can solve her problem by installing implants.
Plastic surgery for breast augmentation gives girls a chance not only to cope with asymmetry. Installation of implants, if the patient wishes, allows you to make a huge bust.
It should be taken into account that artificial breasts may not be available to everyone, since the presence of tumor processes is a contraindication to plastic surgery.
When diagnosing oncology, all attempts are initially made to get rid of the disease in a conservative way.When treatment fails or the patient’s condition only gets worse, specialists may recommend surgery.
If the asymmetry is insignificant and does not have a pathological basis, the woman is advised not to resort to radical methods of correcting her bust. It should be remembered that any interference with the normal physiological process can negatively affect the entire body. To hide a slight defect in the difference in breast size, you can use special corrective underwear.

Why one breast is larger than the other
Sometimes it happens that a woman has one breast larger than the other, and it is not known for what reasons such a violation occurred. Basically, the mammary glands, like any organ of the human body, cannot be exactly the same. But only those cases when the difference is very small are considered the norm.If the difference is 1-2 sizes, inspection and intervention by specialists is required. Such violations can have a negative impact on a woman’s health.
Sometimes it happens that a woman has one breast larger than the other, and it is not known why such a violation occurred.
Modern medicine knows a large number of cases when one breast differs in size from the other. Mammologists have divided the problems of the appearance of this defect into 2 groups: congenital and acquired.
In the first case, everything depends on the girl’s hormonal maturation. If, in the process of development, the body is faced with disorders or the appearance of ailments, a visible difference appears in the size of the mammary glands. During the examination of the patient, specialists should pay special attention to the correct ratio of two important hormones – estrogen and progesterone.
This is due to the fact that they are responsible for the correct growth of the breast. Estrogens play a major role in the proper development of cell structure.Progesterone is responsible for the formation of the required number of alveoli and milk ducts.
Unfortunately, during the examination and examination, not all specialists pay attention to the correct ratio of hormones. If you choose the right course of treatment, the girl’s breasts become the same by the age of 20.
As for the acquired violation, in this case, experts have identified a number of decisive factors. Pregnancy ranks first on the list. It is for this reason, more often than not, that one breast is larger than the other.

More dangerous causes of this disorder are mastopathy. The appearance of benign breast tumors quite often leads to a difference in breast volume. In this case, the woman needs to be regularly examined by a specialist in order to avoid complications.
The reasons for the appearance of asymmetry are often mechanical stress. The consequences of such violations are quite pronounced: edema occurs, the size of the injured gland differs significantly from the normal breast.
If one breast is larger than the other (video)
Quite often, the causes of asymmetry are pregnancy. This process rarely has a strong effect on the growth of the mammary glands. The appearance of the difference is influenced by the period of lactation and feeding of the baby.
This is due to the anatomical structure of the female breast. It is known that the breast contains a large number of alveoli, which are formed by glands that secrete milk. The ducts drain fluid into the lactiferous sinuses. It is in this part that milk accumulates before feeding.Around the alveoli and ducts are connective and adipose tissue, which determine the volume of the breast.
Quite often, the causes of asymmetry are pregnancy
As for the appearance of milk, its production directly depends on oxytocin and prolactin. There are several reasons why there are breasts of different sizes during lactation:
the presence of cracks in the nipples;
development of breast diseases;
Incorrect preparation for the feeding process.
Basically, in order to prevent the development of asymmetry during pregnancy and lactation, you need to adhere to the basic rules prescribed by your doctor.
A young mother needs to feed equally from both breasts.
Regular holding of the breast toilet is a prerequisite. This prevents the development of inflammatory processes.
Development of mastopathy and tumors
Why did one breast become larger than the other? Often the reason for this is mastopathy.In this case, you should immediately seek help from a mammologist. Benign breast tumors cause one breast to be much larger than the other. In this case, the specialist who examines the patient is faced with the task of determining the soundness of the process.
If no cancer episodes were detected during laboratory tests, the doctor prescribes drug treatment. The use of therapy is aimed at restoring the correct functioning of the body, especially with regard to sexual and reproductive functions.Over time, the breasts will return to their normal size. This is explained by the active production of the necessary hormones.
Correction of the diet will help to cope with such a problem as breasts of different sizes. From the daily menu, you need to exclude foods that cause disorders and disorders in the gastrointestinal tract. Such changes lead to the appearance of hormonal changes. This also applies to metabolic processes.
In order for the bust to acquire the same size, it is recommended to include fish, seafood, dried apricots and raisins in the diet.A prerequisite is the use of vitamins.
How to get rid of violations
If a woman has different breasts, most often medication is used to solve this problem. To eliminate this problem, special hepatoprotectors are used. The action of these drugs is aimed at the rapid normalization of metabolic processes in the body.
In the course of treatment, various psychotropic drugs are used. The use of drugs is mandatory in situations where the patient suffers from various phobias regarding diseases of the mammary glands.
Vitamin complexes will help improve the condition. Homeopathic medicines are often used for treatment.

Surgical intervention
If the breast differs not by one, but by several sizes, and the woman is experiencing severe discomfort, the only way out of the situation is plastic surgery. To begin with, the doctor must establish why the breast is different in size, and whether the surgical intervention would be dangerous for the patient’s health.
Often, the operation is used if drug therapy has not brought special results.
Today there is a huge list of techniques that can eliminate this problem. Even if the mammary glands differ significantly in size, plastic surgery will allow you to quickly and efficiently restore the normal volume. A special implant is used for recovery.

Why did one breast become larger than the other?
Asymmetry of the face and some parts of the body is generally accepted as the norm. Physicians are inclined to the theory that the body becomes completely symmetrical only at the time of a person’s death. All women are faced with asymmetric breasts, but for some this factor is barely expressed, while for others it brings severe discomfort.
Many women come to aesthetic surgeons with just this problem: their breasts can vary by 1-3 sizes, which does not allow choosing the right underwear and makes it difficult to enter into intimate contact.Why is one breast larger than the other? Some of the fair sex, prone to hypochondria, are seriously puzzled by this question, taking the difference in size for cancer, mastitis and other problems.
For girls of puberty, such a defect can bring a lot of suffering, and even develop a serious inferiority complex. It is too early for girls in such a period to worry about this: there is a natural growth of the mammary gland and the distribution of superficial adipose tissue.
At this stage, the modifications concern not only size, but also shape, elasticity, density. Really dangerous phenomena provoke the presence of other obvious symptoms associated not only with a change in the shape of the gland. It is thanks to them that a woman turns to a doctor.
When should you be alert?
When does a woman need to look closely at the visual changes in the mammary glands and take appropriate measures to see a doctor? Signals of real danger are not limited only to a change in the shape and size of one breast, however, in some cases, even one sign can indicate the presence of a disease.Examination by a specialist mammologist is highly recommended in such cases:

- A sudden change in the size of one of the mammary glands. If there were no provoking factors, like breastfeeding, and one breast visually became larger than the other, this is a good reason to contact a specialist.It is worthwhile to first examine your breasts and correctly feel it with your hands for nodules and tumors. If an enlargement of one gland is accompanied by acute pain or fever, do not forget to notify a specialist about this.
- Changing the shape of the nipples. If the nipples become sunken or, conversely, abnormally elongated, their shape and size have changed, it is worth visiting a consultation with a mammologist. The same applies to visual metamorphosis of the nipple on one enlarged breast.
- A rash has appeared on the enlarged gland around the nipple that itches or tears.Any skin changes, even if they do not entail pronounced uncomfortable symptoms, should alert the woman.
- Nipple discharge is a good reason to see a specialist. The exception is the last trimester of pregnancy, or lactation. At this time, colostrum can be excreted from the breast, which, by mistake or ignorance, can be confused with pathogenic secretions.
- Skin puckering around the nipple, ulceration or cracking, general roughness.
- If, in addition to visual enlargement of one breast, you find neoplasms in the form of tubercles in the armpit, or local lymph nodes, urgently take measures to appoint a consultation with a mammologist.
- Breast augmentation is accompanied by sharp pain on palpation.
- Infiltrates, hyperemia, swelling or induration are observed in the modified breast
Yes, but not only because of them. The wrong underwear – regardless of its model – easily provokes the multiplication of the candida fungus, which, in fact, causes the unpleasant symptoms of the mentioned disease.
No. Most often, urinary tract infections are caused by bacteria that enter the urethra from your own intestines.
Note: a lot in our body develops asymmetrically – the right kidney is located just below the left one, the right lung consists of three lobes, the left one consists of two; but what can I say – many people have feet and palms also vary in size. However, no one asks the question whether this is normal.Just a woman’s breast, for obvious reasons, enjoys b o
90 260 More attention than hands and feet.
It depends on what caused this splendor.If your breasts are naturally full, that is, large compared to the proportions of your entire body – you don’t have to worry.
Oddly enough, exactly what we “load” into it comes out of our body, that is, if you dine with an excessive amount of fresh herbs or even an artificially dyed semi-finished product – and voila.
Friction and other physical contact can damage it, cause irritation, and ultimately lead to micro-wounds. And infection will easily make its way into them; so it is better not to get carried away with “Brazilian” hair removal.
Is it true that some women are naturally incapable of orgasm?
Some – yes, but this phenomenon is extremely rare. On the other hand, from 30 to 60% of women of different ages complain of anorgasmia, but this is not due to physiology, but to the “head”.Many are hampered by complexes, others – by the memory of the first unsuccessful experience, but for the majority – the obsessive thought that “here again I can not.” In addition, some women simply do not know what exactly they want, and their men, in turn, do not undertake to research this issue.
Is it true that a baby’s gender can be affected by the conception posture?
No. The sex of the child depends on which sex chromosome is carried by the sperm that enters the egg.
If you try to remove pus, ugly scars may remain on the skin, plus there is a chance to introduce even more infection into the wound.

After mammoplasty, breast asymmetry may occur. The mammary glands differ in volume, location, shape.Such complications arise as a result of a plastic surgeon’s error during the operation, as well as in the case when the patient does not follow medical recommendations. Correct asymmetry by surgery. It is necessary to contact only trusted plastic surgeons who will ensure a good result and make your breasts beautiful.
Symptoms
Breast after mammoplasty swells in the first days. The final recovery takes place in 2-3 months. For several weeks, the patients do not take off tight compression garments.Then the doctor evaluates the results of the manipulation. Asymmetry is determined after the removal of stitches, the disappearance of hematomas and edema. Instead of compression underwear, it is allowed to wear normal underwear, if no complications are identified.
Typical signs of asymmetry:
- Differences between the right and left breasts in terms of volume, structure, size, location in relation to the chest.
- The paramilac areoles are deformed.
- When palpating or walking, the woman feels pain.
After the completion of the rehabilitation period, slight asymmetry is determined by measuring the distance from the edge of the areola to the handle of the sternum or submammary fold, as well as determining the width of the base of the chest, measuring the distance along the contour line from the nipple to the center of the chest.
If the total discrepancy is only a few centimeters, plastic surgeons do not consider it as an indication for surgery.
Asymmetry: causes and statistics
No more than 7% of operated women face the problem of uneven placement of the mammary glands.Patients with congenital asymmetry are at risk. Even if the difference was not significant before the intervention, it may become more noticeable after the operation. In such cases, the tactics of action are determined individually. Installation of implants of different sizes is not excluded.
The use of low-quality materials also leads to the gradual development of asymmetry. They do not withstand mechanical stress and physical exertion. Liquid passes through their shell.
Incorrect placement of the implant by the surgeon is one of the most common causes of disproportionate placement of the glands.
If the patient does not comply with the rehabilitation regime, performs physical activity, sleeps on her stomach, refuses to wear compression underwear, the implant shell may be damaged, the gel may leak out, and the gland may become deformed. As a result, scars and scars are formed.
How to avoid complications?
To prevent the occurrence of adverse consequences, it is necessary to adhere to the following recommendations:
- Compression garments must be worn for the first month.
- Treat seams with ointments and gels.
- Observe the condition of the skin. If gray appears, you need to see a doctor.
- Raise your hands only after 7-10 days. For the next 21 days, lifting weights, sharp turns, bends, sleeping on the side or stomach is prohibited.
- Perform light breast massage as directed by your doctor. It accelerates the healing of soft tissues and helps to achieve an optimal aesthetic result.
Do not massage yourself! It is not done in the first 5 days after surgery, in case of complications, fever, etc.p.
Asymmetry correction
Correction is carried out not earlier than 6 months after the operation. The patient’s poor health, the presence of inflammation, necrosis, seromas, profuse hemorrhages and other life-threatening symptoms are direct contraindications to manipulation. In such cases, do not hesitate. It is necessary to remove the implant as soon as possible.
When diagnosing asymmetry, surgical correction is performed. In particular, they use implants of different sizes, eliminate compressive fibrosis, scars, and form new pockets for prostheses.
General recommendations in preparation for mammoplasty
For surgery, go to reliable clinics with experienced specialists. Study the reviews of previous patients about the plastic surgeon, photos of the results of the work. Look for information on the official websites of organizations, as well as independent forums on the Internet.
Only a professional can make the breast of your dreams, as well as tell about the features of the rehabilitation period and warn about possible complications if the regime is not followed.A competent approach, proven tactics and professional actions of the doctor guarantee a beautiful bust.
A plastic surgeon with 20 years of experience, Igor Aleksandrovich Butko, uses author’s methods of breast correction. The doctor works in Moscow and Stavropol. For each patient, the doctor establishes an individual procedure for action, stipulates prohibitions in the pre- and postoperative periods, determines the appropriateness of the massage.
The operation is carried out under conditions of absolute sterility.Safe anesthesia is applied. Comfortable conditions for staying in the clinic are created for the woman.
Trust the professional and you will be completely satisfied with the result!

90,000 Everything you wanted to know about breasts
On many forums and sites, real battles are unfolding on topics around the health and beauty of the female breast, in which just as many myths are mixed as there is conscientious information. Therefore, we asked the most burning questions about the health of the mammary gland to the surgeon-oncologist Nikolai Anikusko, the mammologist of the Dobrobut medical network.
What factors affect breast size?
Breast size is genetically predetermined, but this does not mean at all that a large maternal size will be passed on to a daughter and vice versa, a small size will be inherited. But predisposition is only half the battle, the factor of the development of the organism also works. As a rule, it goes harmoniously: thin, thin tall women will have small breasts, while stocky women will have larger breasts. But if we feed the girl more or inject hormones into her, the size of the mammary gland will not change from this.It doesn’t depend on food, vitamin addition, it only depends on genes.
Is it possible to pump up breasts in the gym?
The mammary gland is a modified sweat, apocrine gland. This is not a muscle, therefore, it does not contract. And no matter what a person does in the gym, he will not pump her up. The volume of the mammary gland can increase, but under the influence of hormonal factors – for example, a woman in the middle, third trimester of pregnancy is preparing for lactation, during this period her breasts will become larger.
If the right and left breasts of different sizes are normal or abnormal?
This is an absolute variation of the norm. Everyone’s mammary glands are different. For right-handers, for example, the right side is more developed, and due to better blood flow, the right breast can be larger than the left, and vice versa – in left-handed people. There is congenital symmetry and anatomical norms: the nipple should be at the level of the middle of the shoulder, the distance from the jugular notch to the nipple is 22 cm. The gland can be anything, the main thing here is acceptable proportions.Sometimes the glands can be different, but if the areoles ( pigmented areas around the nipple. – Ed.) are at the same level, then this is not at all striking. And with exactly the same glands and areoles of different sizes, a feeling of asymmetry will arise.
Definitely, the mammary glands develop in the same way, because this is a tissue reaction to the circulation of hormones in the blood. If we drink wine, it does not happen that one eye is sober and the other is drunk, both are drinking. But it happens, for example, that the chest was injured in childhood – the girl hit the steering wheel of a bicycle, surgery or inflammation occurred, and the glandular disc was damaged, from which the mammary gland is then formed.In such cases, one breast may be lagging behind in development. There are a number of diseases, they are called Poland’s syndrome, congenital anatomical defects in which the anterior chest wall is underdeveloped – muscles, ribs in this place, and there is no gland in this case.

What are the risks of breast augmentation surgery?
At the moment, modern implants are relatively safe. Implants, which the current market of plastic services has, undergo a serious safety testing system and have the appropriate certificates.As a rule, they are made on the basis of silicone, and in 96% of cases, their introduction into the breast is an absolutely safe procedure. There are works that have not yet been denied that implants can provoke the formation of T-cell lymphomas, this is a rather rare nosology. And the more patients with augmentation mammoplasty, the greater the statistics of the appearance of lymphomas. But if we talk about silicone implants, then the latest methodologies allow implants to be placed in anatomical spaces that are not associated with the gland.In this case, the volume of the breast increases, but the gland tissue itself does not suffer, and the woman can feed absolutely calmly.
The presence of implants leads to certain restrictions in the lifestyle, for example, caution when diving, jumping, running – if you run quickly and abruptly stop, the implant will move by inertia, and as a result, capsules, inflammatory processes may form, which will lead to visual deformation organ. A so-called contracture capsule may also form, which surrounds the implant in order to stabilize it.But in general, this is a very common, demanded procedure, it is included in the standard plastic surgery training system.
There is an injection technique for breast augmentation using polyacrylamide gel fillers. Fillers have shown themselves to be relatively safe, it is a simple procedure that is done very quickly, without anesthesia and has an immediate effect. Fillers have been used on a large scale: millions of people walk with this gel, which is used not only for mammoplasty, but also in the gluteal tissue, on the legs, and during phalloplasty.But, unfortunately, women always want more breasts, respectively, more gel is injected, and there is a risk that it will lose stability. If blood gets into it, for example, a gel from a neutral substance turns into a weak acid and begins to burn the surrounding tissues. This leads to pronounced cicatricial changes, the formation of granulomas. This gel begins to migrate, leaving behind gross deformations of the glandular and adipose tissue. Therefore, such gels, as a rule, are now abandoned, after long-term observation of their behavior in the tissue of the gland.
Why can there be more stretch marks on one breast than on the other? Is this problem somehow solved?
Stretch marks are a genetically determined effect, the reaction of the skin “envelope” to sudden changes in the volume of the breast. This always indicates that there has been a disproportionately rapid increase in the internal contents of the breast. Stretch marks are inherent in people with weakness of connective tissue, this moment is genetically predetermined, it can be accompanied by stretch marks on the abdomen, after pregnancy, on the legs, if this is a rapid growth during adolescent acceleration.Such changes can also carry a hormonal background, especially if the function of the adrenal glands is impaired, then these striae ( stretch marks – ed.) acquire a pink-red cyanotic hue. And this, as a rule, indicates an endocrinological problem, a lack of corticosteroid hormones. Such a patient needs an endocrinologist’s consultation.
If the breast grew rapidly in puberty, at 10-13 years old, then in this case, striae may appear, if they are bluish-red, they remain for a very long period, and whitish ones are usually transient and disappear over time.
Why are there hairs on the chest? Are they not dangerous? Can you pull them out?
The mammary gland is a sweat gland and hair is a secondary sex characteristic. For men this is typical, and women have hairs – an atavism, they should not be. But there are hormonal disorders, as a rule, the influence of adrenal hormones leads to the fact that the vellus hair on the chest acquires the features of a stem hair and grows, including when it is cut. In fact, this can be solved very simply: photo-, laser removal of such hair is effective.You can also pull it out, as long as it does not lead to inflammation. In addition to the hairs on the chest, under the influence of hormones, hairs also wake up in other areas, for example, on the arms and legs, above the upper lip, and vice versa, female alopecia, when hair thinns under the influence of the hormone androgen. But in terms of breast safety, hair is not a cause for concern.
How dangerous are birthmarks on the chest?
Birthmarks on the mammary gland are a common pathology, while not congenital, but acquired, stimulated by ultraviolet radiation.And women have three zones that are most susceptible to changes – the legs, forearms and arms, the décolleté area. These zones are most susceptible to photoaging, the formation of keratomas, pigmented formations. The skin on the chest is the same as on the whole body, and its behavior is no different from the skin on other parts of it.
Now the number of skin cancers is increasing. We have become richer, we travel more to countries that are closer to the equator, where ultraviolet light is more aggressive. For example, the non-native population of Australia has an increased risk of skin disease from photoaging.Slow, imperceptible damage to the skin by the sun leaves a long memory, photoaging of the skin is a very big problem. Therefore, you need to hide from the sun, use sunscreen. There are several high-evidence, randomized trials that use sunscreen and clothing reduces this risk.
Breast bras – are they all the same harm or benefit?
Historically, the bra was created as a device for maintaining breast tissue, which then became an aesthetic attribute.If we look at women of African tribes, then their mammary gland can descend to the level of the navel, this is called “ptosis”, prolapse. For many women, it is the norm if they never wear a bra. Indeed, with the prolapse of the mammary gland, the ligamentous apparatus, the so-called Cooper’s ligaments, also specially develops – they stretch. Therefore, a woman can run several kilometers without painful sensations. However, if a woman with large breasts runs without a bra without habit, she will get a sprain and suffer from pain.The glandular tissue itself has no nerve endings, it cannot hurt, but there are nerves on the skin, from this and pain. A bra is needed to support the mammary gland, it allows you to redistribute the load from the anterior chest wall to the shoulders and thereby reduce it. Women with medium-small breasts can walk quite comfortably without a bra in terms of physiological needs.
In particular, after implantation, as a rule, special sleepwear is prescribed for the night, when it is necessary to fix the implant so that the breast moves minimally.The chest is a biodynamic organ, it is formed under the influence of gravity, and this is important at such times.
Chest pain during menstruation – is it a norm or a pathology?
It can be both. Chest pain before menstruation can be a sign of premenstrual syndrome, a subjective assessment of the hormonal state of the body. The reason is very simple – before the onset of menstruation, progesterone decreases. It has a decongestant effect, and when there is little of this hormone, more fluid, salt is retained in the tissues, and the so-called superficial edema of the dermis, skin, where there are nerve endings, occurs.And due to swelling in the chest, increased sensitivity occurs. As a rule, there is no acute pain. And if pain occurs long before menstruation and lasts several weeks, then this is already a sign of hormonal disorders, mastopathy, and such patients need a doctor’s consultation.
There are also non-cyclic pains, mastodynias, as a rule, one-sided, local – in this case, everything is in order with the breast, but this means that the mammary gland is not a pain donor, but its recipient. And this pain in the mammary gland indicates abnormalities in the cervical or thoracic spine.If it is the cervical region, then there is pain in the shoulder and armpit, if it is chest, it is one-sided pain in the chest. In this case, the breast does not need to be treated, but go to the vertebrologist and observe neurological problems.
What are the mechanisms of changes in the mammary gland after childbirth and breastfeeding?
Carrying a baby, feeding is a hormone-controlled process. The mammary gland is an organ of the reproductive system; accordingly, it appears, develops and fades under the influence of hormones.Every menstrual cycle, cyclical changes occur that affect the mammary gland. The influence of estrogen and progesterone lead to changes in the morphology of the gland, and if a woman does not give birth for a long time or does not give birth at all, then under the influence of these constant changes the structure of the tissue changes, and in nulliparous patients the risk of breast cancer is 30% higher than in those who gave birth …
If a woman gives birth, then the mammary gland, of course, prepares for this process. In the first trimester of pregnancy, a woman still has subjective sensations, and in the second or third trimester, in addition to progesterone, somatotropic hormone also influences from the placenta, prolactin is released, the “berries” – glands ripen, increase in size and prepare to secrete milk.During this period, the breasts become larger and retain their size under the influence of prolactin levels. At the end of feeding and a decrease in prolactin, tissue atrophy occurs – the breast envelope is stretched, and the contents have become smaller in volume. Naturally, the breast no longer has such a density and ptosis occurs – but this is the norm. Women with small breasts do not experience this, unlike women with medium-large to large breasts.
How many types of breast lumps are there? How dangerous are they?
In connection with changes in the size of the mammary gland, there can be changes not only in the glandular, but also in the duct apparatus – cysts, areas of dilated ducts filled with fluid are formed.This tissue reaction to a hypoestrogenic state is not a cause for concern, but requires clarification of the cause and further prevention. If we are talking about an increase in glandular tissue, which is focal in nature, then we need to look for these changes to be symmetrical, in which case this is a variant of the norm. But if there are changes in only one breast, increased compaction, then this is a signal for a clinical consultation with a mammologist or oncologist, mammography and ultrasound, sometimes a puncture is needed to clarify whether this change is a proliferative form of mastopathy or is it caused by the influence of hormones.
Now we are talking about cancer not from the point of view of symptoms that scare people: lemon peel, swelling, bloody changes – these are symptoms of an advanced tumor process. Our efforts are moving into timely and early diagnosis, our goal is the diagnosis of stage zero cancer, which does not manifest itself subjectively in any way. This stage has no clinical manifestations, the woman has no pain, and she will walk for 3-4 years until the first nodule appears. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, 65% of women detect the tumor themselves, which means that, as a rule, the tumor already has more than 1.5 cm.In order to influence the rate of detection of breast cancer at an early stage, there is an appropriate screening – preventive examination and examination. This gives the best treatment results – 95% of patients live for ten or more years. In early diagnosis, or screening, there are three areas – self-examination (and it is better to start with adolescence), clinical examination and mammography.
If we talk about seals of another kind, then these include hyperplasias, diffuse or focal, these are cysts and a number of other benign formations, such as fibroadenomas, fatty necrosis, lipomas.These are not hazardous formations, but they must be assessed by a specialist. Among them there are diseases, and there are conditions. If this is hyperplasia – a reaction to stress or hormonal factors – then, as a rule, it disappears in a month or two. And if this does not happen, then it is necessary to take action. There are diseases that can increase the likelihood of cancer, for example, atypical hyperplasia, so a specialist must figure out which genus this seal belongs to.
How to prevent breast conditions due to hormonal changes?
The mammary gland, like a mirror, reflects changes in the hormonal background in the body.Very often, the structure of the tissue can change 3-4 months earlier than the cycle changes and gynecological symptoms appear. If we see cyclical changes in a woman, then it is imperative to look at why the mammary gland behaves this way and consult a gynecologist and endocrinologist. If this leads to pain, then you need to either change the production of hormones – if one or another hormone is not enough, then replenish it, and vice versa, if there are too many hormones, then remove them from the body. It all depends on the woman’s age: if the pain occurs against the background of polycystic disease, ovarian sclerocystosis, functional maturity of the corpus luteum, then with the normalization of gynecological problems, no correction from the mammary gland is required.Another thing is, when a woman is already in the menopausal period and the ovaries are involuted, then taking into account the risk factors, it is possible to prescribe a therapy that will reduce the risk of cancer – antiestrogen therapy, for example.
There is data on the use of drugs that are used in oncology and have proven to be safe in the prevention of cancer. This is not shown for everyone, but only for patients at risk. There are 5-10% of cancers that are genetically determined, and we can prescribe this therapy as non-invasive, and it reduces the likelihood of developing cancer by 50% in carriers of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes and by 19% in non-carriers, and this is a great preventive tool.
WHO says that if you quit smoking, cleanse chronic foci of infection, practice a healthy diet, be physically active and reduce sun exposure, you can reduce the risk of all tumors by 43%. And if we can modify the risk factors by using drugs, then 50% of breast cancer can be avoided. This is the foundation of preventive medicine that prevents cancer.
Various inventions emerge for the early diagnosis of breast cancer.For example, there is a prototype of a bra that uses biosensors to measure the density, temperature and color of the breast and thus helps to signal problems with the breast. Do you think there is a rationale in this invention?
Such inventions are already the level of instrumental research. I am against panic, but if attention is paid to this issue, then it is good. At the moment, there are first-order techniques, such as mammography, which allow the best quality to see what is happening in the breast.There are PET, TEM, and MRI techniques, there are many of them. If new techniques prove to be more effective and useful, then why not? Previously, there were luminescent techniques that showed breast tissue with light, there were thermography, but they have not been proven to be effective. And now medicine goes into genetic typing: a drop of blood determines the probability of developing cancer by 70-80% in a certain category of patients. There are many methods, but they must be confirmed for their effectiveness and safety.
Is breast cancer genetically transmitted like other cancers? Or is it a myth?
5-10% of breast cancers are genetically determined. There are already commercialized BRCA1 and BRCA2 test systems that assess the likelihood of genetic cancer. There are several more on the way – these are PLB1 and PLB2, Check and others. There are many genes associated with cancer. There are hereditary diseases in which the risk of cancer is higher than that of completely healthy people. These are, for example, Cowden’s disease, ataxia-telangiectasia disease, and others.
At the same time, many do not understand the difference between genetic and familial types of cancer. Familial – when family members develop cancer of different localization – as a rule, it is caused by abnormalities in oncogenes that control the risk of cancer and DNA repair. And the genetic type – when family members develop cancer of one organ or system, it can be inherited. If a woman has cancer before the age of 40-45, or her mother and / or sister were sick, she has a high risk of getting sick, too, and this is a reason to do genetic typing.Previously, we did not talk about this, but now it is already accepted that if the father had prostate cancer, then the daughter has an increased risk of cancer of the reproductive system.
