  1. For the cucumber water: Wash and thinly slice the cucumber. Add the cucumber slices to bottom of a pitcher. Use a wooden spoon to lightly muddle (mash) them several times to release the juices. Add the cold water. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving (you can add fresh mint sprigs if desired). Flavor is best within 1 day, but you can store up to 3 days refrigerated. Serve with lemon slices if desired. Or, add a splash of sparkling water.
  2. For the strawberry water: Place the strawberries in a blender with strawberries with 1 cup water, the lime juice and sugar and blend on high until fully combined. Add the remaining 6 cups cold water. Taste and adjust sugar or lime juice as needed (the flavor mellows over time). Serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 3 days. If desired, serve topped off with sparkling water.

Strawberry Water – A Couple Cooks

Strawberry water is a deliciously hydrating drink with the essence of the red berry! Make a big pitcher and wow everyone.

We love healthy drinks around here, like infused waters and herbal teas. Here’s a new-to-us beverage that quickly rose to favorite status: Strawberry Water! This delicious flavored water has the essence of that red berry and my, is it refreshing! Make a big pitcher and you can sip off of it for days: or it’s perfect for summer entertaining. If you like, add a splash of sparkling water and drink it as a low calorie alternative to soda. Our 4 year old couldn’t get enough of it (neither could we).

Ingredients in strawberry water

Ready to get started? You’ll need just 3 ingredients for strawberry water, besides good old h30. Here’s what you’ll need to have on hand:

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries (you could also use frozen thawed berries)
  • Lime
  • Sugar

The best method: aqua fresca, not infused!

Here’s the thing: strawberry water does not work as an infused water. The concept for this strawberry water is more like an aqua fresca. Here’s why:

  • An infused water lets fruit sit in water for 1 or more hours. But Let sliced strawberries sit in water for over 1 hour, and they start to disintegrate. This looks unappealing and doesn’t add much flavor. (Trust us, we tried it!)
  • An aqua fresca blends water with fruit. This works much better with berries: it comes out with a bright color and more of the berry flavor. The typical aqua fresca is sweetened quite a bit, so for this strawberry water we cut back the sugar so it’s barely sweet.

How to make strawberry water: basic steps

How to make strawberry water? Blend berries first before adding cold water. The results in a beautifully bright pink water that’s just barely sweetened. Here are the basic steps (or jump to the recipe below):

  • Blend the strawberries with 1 cup water, lime juice and sugar. You can adjust the lime and sugar to taste. The sweetener is very minimal, but it’s nice to have otherwise it turns out very tart.
  • Add the remaining cold water. You can drink immediately, or store for up to 3 days!

Alternative sweeteners

This strawberry water is best with a little sweetness, otherwise it tastes very tart and flat. Sugar is to fruit as salt is to vegetables: it brings out the essence of the flavors! If you prefer not to use sugar, use an equal amount of one of the following:

  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Agave nectar
  • Coconut sugar

Add a splash of sparkling water if you like

This strawberry water is fantastic on its own! You’ll notice that the flavor mellows over time, if you store it over a few days. We made a big pitcher and then used it as a fun drink replacement for soda.

It’s fantastic topped off with a little sparkling water – it almost tastes like a mocktail! This homemade strawberry soda is the sweetened version of this, but we like the water version better.

More strawberry drinks

Strawberry drinks are king in the summer! Here are a few more tasty beverages made with strawberries:

  • Try a glass of Strawberry Lemonade
  • Go for a Strawberry Vodka Cocktail or Strawberry Basil G&T
  • Grab bubbly Strawberry Soda
  • Try a Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri

10 healthy drinks for every day + two author’s recipes for warmth and vigor

What we drink plays no less important role than what we eat. If we want to feel healthy and energetic, it is important to pay attention to the drinking regimen. Here are my top 10 healthiest drinks I drink on a regular basis.

  1. High quality water at least 1.5-2 liters per day.
  2. Any herbal teas . My favorites: fresh mint, chamomile and ginger root, as well as almost all Yogi Tea brand teas.
  3. Green Shake : water or smoothie + powdered supplements containing botanicals such as wheatgrass, barley shoots, alfalfa, chlorella, etc. Such supplements perfectly complement the diet and serve as a source of nutrients necessary for the body, which we often lack due to insufficient consumption of greens and vegetables.
  4. Green tea . Be sure to sheet and high quality. This tea perfectly tones and contains many antioxidants and vitamins. One of my favorite types of tea is matcha tea. This is a Japanese green tea powdered. It contains ten times more antioxidants than any other tea. It also speeds up metabolism and increases energy levels, making it a great alternative to coffee. I drink it mostly as matcha latte with plant milk.
  5. Kombucha . Kombucha, or kombucha infusion, is a fermented, slightly carbonated drink made from brewed tea with the addition of fruits or berries. It heals the intestinal microflora very well and is generally useful for the gastrointestinal tract and liver.
  6. Homemade fruit drinks . In summer, you can make homemade fruit drinks from seasonal berries and fruits, and in winter – from citrus fruits and ginger root.

  2. Blend all ingredients in a blender.
  3. Strain through a fine sieve.

7. Freshly squeezed juices Vegetable or fruit and vegetable juices, predominantly from vegetables. For example, green juice from leafy vegetables, celery stalk, cucumber and green apple effectively removes toxins from the body without drastically raising blood sugar levels.

8. Drink made from dried fruits soaked overnight . For a good functioning of the digestive tract, it is useful to soak well-washed dried fruits such as prunes overnight, and drink this infusion in the morning on an empty stomach.

9. Decoctions of roots, leaves, fruits of plants eg wild rose, hawthorn, etc. Such decoctions are widely used in herbal medicine as an effective remedy.

10. Plant Based Milk which can be used to make healthy hot chocolate, smoothie or golden turmeric latte (recipe below).
