Causes, symptoms, treatment, and more

Fatigue and nausea are common symptoms that often occur together. In some cases, these symptoms may develop as a result of lifestyle factors, such as poor sleep or diet, or lack of exercise. In other cases, they may signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.

Fatigue is a term that describes a lack of energy or a feeling of tiredness or sluggishness. Nausea is a feeling of discomfort in the stomach or a feeling of needing to vomit.

This article outlines the potential causes of combined fatigue and nausea and lists the medical treatments and home remedies that may help alleviate these symptoms. We also provide advice on how to prevent fatigue and nausea and when to see a doctor.

Fatigue and nausea can co-occur as a result of:

  • lifestyle factors
  • short-term, or acute, illnesses
  • long-term, or chronic, conditions

Some possible causes of fatigue and nausea are outlined below.

Lifestyle factors

The following lifestyle factors may cause fatigue and nausea:

  • staying awake too late
  • not getting enough sleep
  • eating too much
  • eating too late at night
  • drinking too much alcohol the night before
  • using recreational drugs
  • lacking physical activity
  • overexerting oneself
  • being jet-lagged

Infections

Certain infections may also cause symptoms of fatigue and nausea. Examples include:

  • bacterial infections, such as:
  • viral infections, such as:
  • parasitic infections, such as:

Psychological causes

Mental health issues can sometimes cause physical symptoms, including fatigue and nausea. Examples include:

Hormonal issues

Fatigue and nausea can sometimes occur as a result of a condition that affects the hormones or the endocrine system that makes the hormones. Examples include:

Neurological conditions

Issues that affect the nerves and the nervous system may also cause symptoms such as nausea and fatigue. Examples include:

Other conditions

Other conditions could also cause nausea and fatigue with or without additional symptoms. Some examples include:

Fatigue and nausea are common during the early stages of pregnancy. Doctors use the term “morning sickness” to refer to nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, although these symptoms may occur at any time of day. A 2014 study notes that morning sickness occurs in around 85% of pregnancies.

If there is any possibility that a person may be pregnant, they should take a pregnancy test. If they are not pregnant, they should see their doctor to determine the cause of their morning nausea.

Feeling nauseous upon waking up may simply be the result of poor sleep or an upset stomach from the night before. However, it could also signal a more chronic underlying health issue.

It is fairly normal for a person’s energy levels to dip after eating. This happens because the body redirects blood to the digestive system to help break down food in the stomach.

Eating too much may cause a large dip in energy levels since the body has more food to digest. Overeating may also cause feelings of fullness or nausea.

Symptoms of fatigue and nausea after eating can sometimes signal a digestive issue. Other possible symptoms of a digestive disease include:

The treatment for fatigue and nausea depends on the underlying cause. Treating the cause should help eliminate or control the symptoms. Chronic conditions may require a long-term treatment plan.

Doctors may also prescribe treatments for the symptoms themselves. For example, a doctor may prescribe antiemetic drugs to reduce nausea and vomiting.

Certain home remedies may help manage the symptoms of fatigue and nausea. Some examples are outlined below.

Home remedies for nausea

The following home remedies may help settle an upset stomach and reduce feelings of nausea:

  • sipping a cold drink
  • drinking ginger or peppermint tea
  • eating foods containing ginger, such as ginger biscuits or candied ginger
  • eating multiple small portions
  • getting a lot of fresh air
  • finding distractions, such as listening to music, watching a movie, or reading a book

In addition, people should avoid the following:

  • preparing or eating strong-smelling foods
  • eating foods that are spicy, fried, or greasy
  • eating too fast
  • drinking while eating
  • wearing clothing that is tight around the waist or abdomen
  • lying down shortly after eating

Home remedies for fatigue

The following home remedies may help reduce fatigue:

  • eating smaller meals and healthful snacks every 3–4 hours
  • gradually decreasing caffeine intake over the course of 3 weeks
  • limiting alcohol intake and avoiding alcohol before bedtime
  • drinking more water to prevent dehydration and associated fatigue
  • gradually increasing physical activity
  • reaching or maintaining a moderate weight
  • going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, even on weekends
  • avoiding daytime naps
  • establishing or maintaining a relaxing bedtime routine
  • reducing stress levels through one or more of the following:
    • working out
    • practicing yoga or tai chi
    • spending time with friends
  • receiving counseling or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for fatigue caused by stress, anxiety, or low mood

Experiencing fatigue and nausea is not always a cause for concern. Sometimes, these symptoms are the result of poor lifestyle habits. Changing these habits should lead to an improvement or reduction in symptoms.

However, people should see a doctor if they experience severe, persistent, or worsening episodes of fatigue and nausea.

It is important to seek immediate medical attention for fatigue and nausea that are accompanied by any of the following symptoms:

The above symptoms may indicate a serious underlying medical condition that requires prompt medical treatment.

The outlook for people experiencing combined fatigue and nausea depends on the underlying cause of these symptoms.

Fatigue and nausea are not always a cause for concern. This combination of symptoms sometimes goes away following appropriate lifestyle adjustments, such as changes in eating, sleeping, or exercise habits.

However, severe, persistent, or recurrent episodes of fatigue and nausea can indicate an underlying medical condition that requires treatment. In some instances, it may take time for a doctor to diagnose and treat the cause. Once a doctor has established a diagnosis and a treatment plan, a person will typically find relief from these symptoms.

It may not be possible to prevent all causes of fatigue and nausea. However, the following factors may reduce a person’s risk of developing these symptoms:

  • staying hydrated
  • limiting alcohol and caffeine intake and avoiding either before bedtime
  • avoiding large meals and eating late at night
  • getting plenty of sleep each night
  • following basic personal hygiene to help prevent infections
  • eating a healthful diet and exercising regularly to reduce the risk of health conditions that can cause fatigue and nausea
  • alleviating stress through one or more of the following:
  • seeking therapy for mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression

Fatigue and nausea are symptoms that commonly occur together. In some cases, they are the result of lifestyle habits, such as poor sleep or diet, or lack of exercise. In other instances, they may signal an underlying mental or physical health issue that requires treatment.

Sometimes, a person may experience symptom relief after using home remedies to aid sleep, alleviate stress, or improve diet. However, if these changes do not lead to an improvement in symptoms, a person should see their doctor.

Anyone who experiences severe, persistent, or recurrent episodes of fatigue and nausea should seek a medical diagnosis and treatment. Following appropriate treatment, most people should experience an improvement in their symptoms.

Causes, symptoms, and stomach ulcers

Helicobacter pylori, commonly called H. pylori, is a type of bacteria that infects the stomach and small bowel. It was discovered in 1982 by two Australian researchers who also found that it causes peptic ulcer disease.

Peptic ulcers are open sores in the lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. Peptic ulcers are often simply called “ulcers” or “stomach ulcers.H. pylori also increase the risk of developing stomach cancer and gastritis.

In this article, we will explain what H. pylori is, how it makes you sick, and how it causes stomach ulcers.

For years, medical experts believed that peptic ulcers were caused by stress or certain foods.

After the discovery of H. pylori, however, this theory was argued extensively. A study in Digestive and Liver Disease suggests that 60 to nearly 100 percent of peptic ulcers are associated with H. pylori.

Ulcers aren’t the only problems associated with H. pylori; researchers discovered that H. pylori cause gastritis, a condition that involves inflammation of the stomach’s lining. H. pylori infection is also linked to stomach cancer; however, the American Cancer Society states that most people with H. pylori in their stomach never develop stomach cancer.

The stomach has a layer of mucus that is designed to protect it from stomach acid. H. pylori attack this mucus lining and leave part of the stomach exposed to acid. Together, the bacteria and the acid can irritate the stomach, causing ulcers, gastritis, or stomach cancer.

However, many people have H. pylori in their stomachs but do not have ulcers or any other related problems. In fact, two-thirds of the world’s population have H. pylori, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But, for reasons not yet understood, some people get ulcers, gastritis, or stomach cancer from an H. pylori infection.

It is worth noting that peptic ulcers may also be caused by long-term use of certain medicines, including pain relievers such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen. These medicines are called NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

A study published in The Lancet found that ulcers are rare in people who don’t take NSAIDs and who don’t have H. pylori in their stomachs.

No one knows for sure how people catch H. pylori. In some cases, contaminated food or water may be to blame. It has been found in human saliva, so experts think it may be able to spread from person to person.

There is no known way to prevent H. pylori infection, but experts recommend:

  • Washing hands before eating and after using the restroom.
  • Eating food that has been handled and prepared safely.
  • Drinking only clean, safe drinking water.

H. pylori infections are more common in developing countries where people may not have access to clean, safe food and water.

Share on PinterestSymptoms of an H.pylori infection may include stomach pain and swelling, nausea, and dizziness.

Many people with H. pylori don’t have any signs or symptoms. If people get an illness caused by H. pylori, however, they may have various symptoms.

Symptoms of a stomach ulcer might include a dull or burning pain in the upper belly area. The pain is sometimes worse at night or when the stomach is empty. There may be temporary relief from taking an antacid, but the pain comes back.

Symptoms of gastritis often include upper belly pain, nausea, and vomiting.

A study in Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics states that people with H. pylori infection may be up to six times more likely to get stomach cancer. Quick treatment of H. pylori can help reduce the damage that H. pylori can cause. This, in turn, may help reduce the risk of stomach cancer and other problems.

Possible symptoms of stomach cancer include:

  • belly pain or swelling
  • loss of appetite
  • nausea or indigestion
  • feeling full without eating very much
  • vomiting

People with any of these symptoms should talk with their doctor. These symptoms may be caused by other conditions, so proper medical care is needed to diagnose the issue.

Possible complications of stomach ulcers

An ulcer can lead to serious complications if left untreated, including:

  • Internal bleeding that can become life-threatening.
  • A hole in the stomach that can lead to infection.
  • Scar tissue that can block the stomach or intestine, preventing it from emptying food.

These complications require immediate medical attention. Possible warning signs include:

  • severe stomach pain
  • black or tarry stool
  • stool with bright red blood
  • vomit with bright red blood
  • vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • feeling weak or short of breath
  • feeling dizzy or faint
  • chills or fever

Share on PinterestAn endoscopy may be used to help diagnose stomach issues caused by H. pylori, such as peptic ulcers.

People who have symptoms of an ulcer, gastritis, or another stomach issue may be tested for H. pylori or other problems.

H. pylori can be detected with blood, breath, or stool tests.

Ulcers, gastritis, and stomach cancer are often diagnosed with a combination of the following tests:

  • Medical history: past medical problems and symptoms are discussed.
  • Physical exam: examining and listening to the belly.
  • Special X-rays that show the inside of the stomach.
  • Endoscopy: doctors view the inside of the stomach with a special instrument while the patient is sedated or put to sleep.

If an ulcer is found, patients may be treated with a variety of medications, including some or all of the following:

  • Antibiotics to kill H. pylori.
  • Medicines that reduce stomach acid called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or histamine receptor blockers.
  • Medicines that coat the ulcer and help it heal.

Sometimes, a peptic ulcer can come back after treatment. To help avoid this, experts recommend:

  • Stop NSAIDs or take a much smaller dose.
  • Only take NSAIDs with special medicines that protect the stomach.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Do not smoke.

Most H. pylori infections can still be successfully treated with antibiotics. However, research suggests that some H. pylori infections are becoming resistant to certain antibiotics. This means H. pylori is able to survive antibiotic treatment and the patient may need another drug to kill the bacteria.

A study in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology found some patients in the U.S. had H. pylori infections that were resistant to two different antibiotics. The American Journal of Gastroenterology reported a high number of resistant H. pylori bacteria in Latin American countries.

Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem across the globe. The CDC say that more than 23,000 people die each year as a result of an antibiotic-resistant infection. Many people may have heard of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), but there are many other types of bacteria that have become resistant to antibiotics.

Everyone can do their part to help fight the problem of antibiotic resistance. The CDC say that people should:

  • Use antibiotics only when prescribed by a doctor.
  • Never use antibiotics for colds or the flu – these are viruses and antibiotics won’t work against these illnesses.
  • Take the entire course of antibiotics if they have been prescribed.
  • Never share antibiotics with others.
  • Never use old or leftover antibiotics.

Fortunately, H. pylori is still treatable with several different antibiotics. Quick treatment will help prevent damage to the stomach and the possible problems of ulcers, gastritis, and stomach cancer.

E. coli infection: Symptoms, causes, and treatment

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a bacterium commonly found in the gut of warm-blooded organisms.

Most strains of E. coli are not harmful but are part of the healthful bacterial flora in the human gut. However, some types can cause illness in humans, including diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and sometimes vomiting.

E. coli O157:H7 is one of the strains, and produces a toxin known as Shiga. It is one of the most powerful toxins, and it can cause an intestinal infection.

Some 265,000 Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infections occur each year in the United States (U.S.). Around 36 percent of these are probably caused by E. coli O157:H7. When a foodborne outbreak occurs, it usually involves a shiga toxin-producing E. coli.

Most people recover within 6 to 8 days, but it can be life-threatening in infants and people with a weakened immune system.

Some other types of E. coli infection can lead to urinary tract infections, respiratory illness, pneumonia, and other illnesses like meningitis.

Share on PinterestE. coli infects the intestine and causes symptoms that range from non-presenting to severe.

Symptoms of infection with E. coli 0157 typically appear 3 to 4 days after being exposed to the bacteria. However, symptoms may appear as early as 24 hours or as late as 1 week later.

These can include:

  • abdominal pain or severe abdominal cramping, often starting suddenly
  • watery diarrhea, beginning a few hours after the pain begins
  • bright red bloody stools around a day later, resulting from the toxin’s damage to the intestines
  • nausea and, in some cases, vomiting
  • in some cases, fever, usually below 101 degrees Fahrenheit
  • fatigue, resulting from dehydration and the loss of fluids and electrolytes

Some people have no noticeable symptoms, but they can spread the infection to others.

There is no cure for E. coli O157:H7. It has to resolve itself. Antibiotics are not advised. They may increase the risk of HUS.

Patients should get plenty of rest and drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration.

Over-the-counter (OTC) medications for diarrhea are not recommended, as they can slow down the digestive system, undermining the body’s ability to eliminate the toxins efficiently.

E. coli bacteria are a common cause of urine infections, for example, cystitis. The exit of the urinary tract is near the anus, and so the bacteria can spread from the GI tract to the urinary tract.

Wiping from front to back can help reduce the risk.

Most strains of E. coli are harmless, but some produce a toxin that makes humans sick.

The group of E. coli that includes 0157:H7 produces a potent toxin called Shiga. This toxin can harm the lining of the small intestine.

Humans can become infected by:

Swallowing contaminated water: Tap water in the US is treated and contains chlorine, but some E. coli outbreaks have been caused by contaminated municipal water supplies.

Private wells can be a source of infection, as can some lakes and swimming pools.

Travelers to places where water may be untreated should be careful when drinking water, using ice or eating vegetables washed in water of uncertain origin.

Swallowing contaminated food: Possible sources include undercooked ground beef, unpasteurized milk, juice, cider, or cheese, alfalfa sprouts or raw vegetables.

Infected people who work in restaurants and do not wash their hands properly after going to the toilet can spread the infection to customers and other members of staff.

Person-to-person contact: Good hand hygiene is important in stopping the spread of infection.

Contact with animals: Bacteria can spread in farms, petting zoos, and fairs.

Risk factors

Some people who are more likely to be affected by E. coli– related illness.

People with a weakened immune system are more prone to complications. This includes patients with AIDS, those taking immunosuppressive medications, and people receiving chemotherapy.

Patients with decreased stomach acid, either due to stomach surgery or medicines that lower stomach acid, have a higher risk of infection.

Young children and older people have a higher risk of developing serious illness and complications.

Most people make a full recovery within a week.

However, around 10 percent of people are at risk of developing hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). These are mostly young children and older people.

HUS is characterized by hemolysis, or a breakup of red blood cells. This can cause anemia, a low platelet count, and kidney failure.

Platelets, the blood cells responsible for blood clotting, clump together within the small blood vessels of the kidneys, resulting in reduced blood flow, or ischemia.

This can eventually lead to kidney failure. Decreased platelets increase the risk of bleeding problems.

Patients with these clots can also develop central nervous system (CNS) problems that affect the brain and spinal cord.

This can lead to seizures, paralysis, brain swelling, and coma. It is fatal in 3 to 5 percent of cases.

Acute kidney failure among infants and young children is usually caused by HUS.

HUS usually starts about 5 to 8 days after the onset of diarrhea. It is a medical emergency, and requires hospital treatment.

Share on PinterestDrinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration is crucial during an E. coli infection.

The doctor will identify the signs, ask about symptoms, and send a stool sample to a lab for analysis.

The sample must be taken within 48 hours after the bloody diarrhea starts.

Some tips can help prevent infection with E. Coli and other pathogens.

These include:

  • cooking meat well, especially ground meat
  • drinking pasteurized milk, apple juice, and cider, rather than unpasteurized
  • washing vegetables, especially leafy green ones
  • ensuring that cutlery and crockery are thoroughly washed with warm, soapy water
  • storing meat and non-meat foods separately, and using separate cutting boards
  • following good hand-hygiene practices

Good hand hygiene involves washing hands thoroughly with warm water and soap regularly, and especially after using the bathroom, after changing diapers, before and after preparing foods, and after touching animals

Causes and what to do

Share on PinterestEating habits, constipation, stress, and other medical conditions may lead to bloating, nausea, and tiredness.

There are many reasons why a person might have a bloated stomach and be feeling sick and tired. Read on for some potential causes.

Eating habits

There are several ways a person’s eating habits and diet can contribute to feeling bloated, nauseous, or tired.

These include:

  • eating too quickly
  • eating large portions
  • drinking carbonated drinks
  • eating foods high in salt
  • eating a lot of carbohydrates

Eating moderate portions of food slowly and mindfully may aid digestion and ease symptoms.

Constipation

Constipation occurs when someone has less frequent bowel movements than usual. The bowel movements they do have may feel difficult, uncomfortable, or painful.

Other symptoms of constipation include:

  • bloating
  • feeling sluggish
  • stomach pain

According to John Hopkins Medicine, constipation is the most common digestive condition in the United States.

Constipation has a range of causes, including:

  • sudden changes in diet or lifestyle
  • pregnancy
  • dehydration
  • not eating enough fiber
  • medication that has constipation as a side effect

Treatment for constipation depends on the cause but often involves dietary and lifestyle changes. If these do not work, a doctor may prescribe a laxative.

Stress

Stress and anxiety can affect the nerves of the digestive system, slowing down the movements of the intestines. This may cause people to feel bloated, nauseous, and tired.

Stress can also contribute to constipation, as well as other gastrointestinal conditions.

The American Institute of Stress list a wide range of other symptoms that stress can cause, including:

  • nervous habits, such as fidgeting
  • muscle tension or pain
  • cold or sweaty hands and feet
  • insomnia or nightmares
  • headaches or jaw clenching
  • changes in appetite
  • frequent illness, such as colds or flu

Stress can be difficult to manage. However, there are many ways someone can relieve stress, such as:

  • deep breathing exercises
  • yoga or meditation
  • journaling
  • prayer
  • massage or self-massage

It is a good idea for people to experiment with different stress management techniques to find what helps.

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) occurs when too many bacteria grow in the small intestine.

SIBO can cause:

  • bloating and gas
  • diarrhea or constipation
  • stomach pain
  • nausea
  • fatigue

People with SIBO often have low motility, meaning the small intestine does not push food through the digestive tract as it should.

Diverticulitis, abdominal surgery, and adhesions can also make SIBO more likely.

There are several types of SIBO, and the type someone has will determine their treatment. Doctors may prescribe an antibiotic or combination of antibiotics.

People with SIBO may feel relief from symptoms by following a low FODMAP diet.

FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. These are compounds that bacteria ferment, sometimes causing SIBO symptoms.

Learn more about the low FODMAP diet.

Irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) describes a group of symptoms that affect the gastrointestinal tract, including:

  • abdominal pain and cramping
  • diarrhea or constipation
  • bloating
  • white mucus in stools

Because of the range of causes, treatment for IBS varies. The low FODMAP diet, reducing stress, and medications that alleviate the symptoms can help someone manage the condition.

A variety of factors can cause IBS. Stress, early life trauma, and bacterial infections may play a role. Some people with IBS also have SIBO, food intolerances, or mental health conditions.

Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis means stomach paralysis and occurs when the stomach cannot contract. This causes food to sit in the stomach, disrupting digestion.

According to the American College of Gastroenterology, gastoparesis can cause the following symptoms:

  • bloating
  • nausea
  • feeling full quickly
  • heartburn
  • vomiting
  • abdominal pain

Abdominal pain of gastroparesis occurs under the ribs, especially in the center of the upper abdomen.

As a result of these symptoms, a person may lose weight or not get enough nutrients, which can result in tiredness.

People often manage gastroparesis by changing their diet. Foods high in fat or fiber take longer to digest. Switching to softer foods, such as nutritional drinks, soups, and stews, can help.

Dumping syndrome

Dumping syndrome happens when food empties from the stomach too quickly.

The International Foundation Gastrointestinal Disorders state that dumping syndrome can occur after people have had surgery to remove part of the stomach. It may also occur in people with other digestive conditions.

Along with bloating, nausea, and fatigue, the symptoms of dumping syndrome include:

  • abdominal cramping
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • dizziness
  • cold sweats

Symptoms may appear during or straight after eating, or 1–3 hours after eating. Dietary changes can often help people to relieve symptoms.

Changes can include:

  • eating smaller meals more frequently
  • increasing complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains
  • increasing foods high in soluble fiber, such as apples, carrots, and oats
  • increasing protein

It can help to talk to a dietician so that a person with dumping syndrome can maintain their weight.

Ovarian cancer

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), persistent bloating for 2 weeks or more can be a sign of ovarian cancer in females.

People may also experience:

  • unusual vaginal bleeding
  • pelvic pain or pressure
  • feeling full quickly while eating
  • difficulty eating
  • constipation or more frequent bowel movements
  • more frequent urination

If people have any of these symptoms, they should see their doctor right away. A doctor can request tests to determine if these symptoms are due to cancer or another condition.

10 Common Symptoms Women Should Never Ignore

Certain symptoms women commonly experience after age 40 may be nothing to worry about, particularly if they’re part of your “norm.” But when you have a sudden change like headache, nausea, fatigue, unexpected vaginal bleeding, heart palpitations that last more than 15 minutes, or a rash on your breast that doesn’t go away within a couple of days, it’s wise to see your doctor.

“The reality is that a lot of times these symptoms are normal,” says Courtney Baechler, MD, a cardiologist and vice president of the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis. To put things in perspective, she reminds her patients that these are all things they’ve probably experienced in one form or another in just the past week — but they can also indicate a more serious health condition.

Take extreme fatigue in women, for example. Fibromyalgia syndrome, a disorder that causes chronic, deep muscle pain, may cause debilitating fatigue, even headache. Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that occurs more often in women than men and has no known cure. Medication, getting sound sleep, being active, and eating a healthy diet may help the extreme fatigue of fibromyalgia.

Severe fatigue may also be caused by much more serious conditions that need a doctor’s attention, including, for example:

  • Cancer
  • Depression
  • Some types of inflammatory arthritis

Antihistamines, antidepressants, and pain medicines at higher doses can cause significant fatigue. If you have experienced severe fatigue symptoms for several weeks, set up a doctor’s appointment. Your doctor will do a physical exam, ask about your health history, and order laboratory tests to make sure nothing serious is going on.

Headache, nausea, fatigue, and achiness may be a sign of a common cold or flu virus or a sign of heatstroke, especially in older adults. If you suspect heatstroke — call 911 or medical personnel immediately.

According to the Merck Manual, nausea and fatigue can be symptoms caused by cancer, diabetes, anemia, chronic kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and other serious diseases. Or nausea and fatigue can be normal symptoms during PMS, menstruation, or pregnancy.

That’s why it is important to know your body. Even weight gain or weight loss could be a result of eating more or less — or a symptom of a serious illness such as diabetes.

Knowing when new symptoms occur and checking with your physician to make sure they are not serious will let you be your own bodyguard when it comes to health and longevity.

Brilliant film. Not everyone will like it, but whoever gets hooked will give a huge amount of impressions. The picture of the Danish film director and screenwriter Lars von Trier is very original, in particular, in that it appears in the form of a performance staged on a theatrical stage. The viewer sees a limited number of scenery, and the city appears in one space, the houses of which are outlined with chalk on a flat area. At the same time, the atmosphere of the 30s is perfectly recreated, the gangster time and there are many symbols in the film: a dog resembling a hellish Cerberus; apples of discord; figurines representing the seven deadly sins, Elm Street, the name of which already carries something terrible and disgusting, etc.d.

Dogville is a fictional American town with only 15 adults and 7 children. It would seem that this is a small glorious city against the backdrop of magnificent mountains, in which residents hope for the best. But the figurines of the 7 deadly sins will tell even better about them than any words. All the people of Dogville, at first glance, are quiet, calm, benevolent. They themselves say that caring for people is their prerogative; that everyone is here for himself and help is needed by someone else, and not by him, while having a lot of things that are postponed for later. One incident (but is this the case?) Upsets the balance of a ‘cute’ town. Fleeing from gangsters, an amazing, meek and mysterious woman with snow-white hands named Grace arrives at it. She was superbly played by Nicole Kidman. This, in my opinion, along with the image of Ada Monroe in Cold Mountain, is one of her best roles. To provide the opportunity to stay in the city, Dogville gives her two weeks to prove herself in it. But what will she give him? What mark will her stay in the city leave? An attentive viewer will find out this, observing all the strings of the human essence of the inhabitants of the rotten town, who are able to show the teeth of their animal nature.

In the tape, which runs for three hours and consists of a prologue and nine chapters, we can see firsthand that kindness people often mistake for weakness and use it. In the film, a ball of vices, sinfulness and deformities of the soul takes place. Grace’s kindness contrasts with the anger, hypocrisy, lust, and envy of the Dogville people. The film clearly shows how behind the mask of a prosperous person, a quiet inhabitant, a champion of morality, talking about eternal values, there is a devilish essence that will one day break through.Indeed, I think that the more correct a person tries to seem to be, the more demons he has inside.

Dogville is a very versatile film with elaborate dialogues. The absence of spectacular special effects, beautiful landscapes, bright colors is due to the fact that the viewer is riveted to them and his gaze is fixed on the disclosure of human qualities.

What is a man capable of if he is brought up? Can his kindness evaporate? How does power corrupt a person? Which is better: revenge or forgiveness? Dogville tries to answer these questions as well.

About freaks and people

For any person who is even a little familiar with cinema, the name Lars von Trier will say a lot.Persona non grata at the Cannes Film Festival, a bright personality and a director with his own unique vision of the world – all these words are just a small part of how this artist can be described. The pearl of his work is the first film of the USA – Land of Opportunities project, Dogville. By the way, looking back at the title of the trilogy (of which, however, only two parts have been released), you understand what irony the author laid down even here.

So, the plot tells the story of a girl pursued by gangsters, who, as a result of her wanderings, ends up in a small town, where she hopes to hide from her pursuers. But everything has a price. And Grace is forced to work for the residents of the city, which at first seems to her a very profitable deal. How wrong she was!

The number of participants in this story is strictly limited – 15 adult citizens, 7 children and the main character. Surprisingly, Trier, as well as a screenwriter, devotes a little time to almost every character. However, over the course of the film, our attitude towards the characters, as well as Grace’s attitude towards them, changes significantly. This is largely facilitated by an interesting move: breaking the narrative into chapters with a small annotation.I do not think that this can be considered prematurely disclosed information, rather the viewer is given a hint on what to pay attention to.

What else makes this film unique? Naturally, every viewer will notice the lack of a huge part of the scenery. Most of the objects are only chalked on the floor. This, in my opinion, reflects the director’s idea of focusing not on “tinsel” and foreign objects, but on the story, on the deep morality embedded within it.

The main advantage of the picture, in my opinion, is the author’s desire to clothe the whole truth about humanity as a whole, about the absence of humanity, decadence and vulgarity.Brutal cruelty reigns supreme in the seemingly cute place where Grace got to. And the further events unfold, the more disgust you feel for the people you liked at first. On the one hand, protecting your home, your city is important. But is it possible to stoop to such disgusting deeds, even in the name of a good, as it seems to them, goal? Why can’t you stay human, find a compromise, meet each other halfway? The inhabitants of Dogville could not do this. Or they simply didn’t know how.Their actions are so vile, and their souls are so rotten, that by the second half of the film you hope for a certain fate for these people. By the end, you are already waiting for this, even with your mind knowing that the probability is small, because Hollywood loves happy ends. But what kind of happy ending can there be?

And Lars von Trier does not let the viewer’s expectations, with his filigree techniques, he obviously brings him to a similar denouement. The last minutes of the picture will make even the most sophisticated viewer experience a wide variety of emotions.Someone will have a heightened sense of justice, someone will open their mouths in surprise, cry, and someone will just smile. In the finale, the author asks an unspoken question: when can a person afford to be merciful? And does forgiveness border on arrogance? Grace found the answer. And the viewer must decide for himself whether he is correct.

– There is a city in the world without which the world will be better …

Among other things, the main cinematographic components here are at the highest level. The acting is beyond praise. This picture is a real benefit performance Nicole Kidman , it perfectly shows the evolution of the heroine – from a naive girl who believes in the kindness and sincerity of people, to the arbiter of destinies. Excellent work was done by both Paul Bettany and by Patricia Clarkson and in particular by Stellan Skarsgard .

The timing of the creation can surprise the inexperienced viewer. But there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of, the director seeks to fully immerse himself in the world of a small town in the Rocky Mountains. This is also achieved with the help of music. Time passes absolutely imperceptibly, leaving behind a bittersweet aftertaste.

Shock film. The film is a sensation. These are the words to describe “Dogville” by Lars von Trier. Replete with unique filmmaking techniques, captivating storytelling and powerful message, the film deserves the title of a masterpiece and a must-see category.

Disgusting movie.Nauseous. Unpleasant. Sick.

After reading this line, you wonder why the review is positive. This question is also difficult for me. Von Trier just masterfully created the general atmosphere of the film, which caused unpleasant goosebumps and the inability to sit still while watching.

If you are confused by the general idea of the complete absence of interiors and decorations – let it not stop you. Believe me, a naked scene + presentation of an idea does the trick. The film is poisonous, sarcastic, derisive and disproportionately painful.

Again, it’s about people. About their vices, albeit picturesquely exaggerated, sometimes presented in the form of allegories. A film about the duality of human souls. Not even about duality, but about rottenness and baseness, disguised under a porcelain mask of well-being.

Good does not always come back good. Goodness can be paid dearly and severely. And this is just a small fraction of the idea of ’Dogville’. It is difficult to find words for this idea, it is difficult to disassemble it into its components. But one thing I can say for sure: the aftertaste of the film is deeply unpleasant. He hurts, he clings, beats surreptitiously with his harsh negative. And this is its strange magic. I do not want to revise it, but the fact that in my eyes it is a masterpiece – I will not deny. Von Trier grabs his throat and presses against the screen. He does not let go of you even after the end credits. It remains in your head, along with its hyperbole of human vices and strict laconicism of the picture. It’s powerful. It’s masterful.

Kidman is extraordinarily good. It’s just extraordinary. Bettany is so convincing that I even forgot for the duration of the film that I deeply sympathize with him – he is so rotten and disgusting.Chloe Sevigny, whom I knew from American Horror Story, was a pleasant surprise.

Black floor. White chalk. Diagrams of houses and diagrams of people’s lives. Frankly bad people. A film steeped in pain and bitterness. A harsh mockery of humanity. I was very impressed. I sincerely recommend at least trying to watch.

The more I get to know people, the more I like dogs

Dogville – The cult misanthropic film by Lars von Trier . Trier managed to reveal the characters of the whole small town in one film. Under the influence of routine and isolation, the moral decay of the inhabitants of Dogville reached an extreme form of bestiality. A kind of litmus test for the moral values of residents is the girl Grace, who accidentally found herself in the city. Grace is the female version of Jesus, minus religious preaching, but with a latent supreme authority. Until the last moment she follows the principle of “turn the other cheek”, but unlike the son of God, she does not forgive the human race, but suits him with an “exterminatus”.The religious institution and law enforcement agencies must keep the animal nature of a person on a leash. There is neither one nor the other in Dogville, so the city is doomed to internal decay.

Minimalism in the decorations and the absence of walls near the houses allow us to examine in detail the life of a small town. As soon as the camera moves away a little, you can see the life of all residents at once. Trier removed all unnecessary details in order to fully concentrate the viewer’s attention on the characters. An important contribution to the disclosure of the characters was made by the actors, who did an excellent job of their roles.Of particular note is the game Nicole Kidman . She embodied the image of a cute girl who, in the course of the film, will have to go through fire, water and copper pipes.

Dogville is an excellent work Trier as an experimental director, as a playwright and as a connoisseur of human souls. The film deserves a place in the galaxy of classic films.

This is a city in 9 chapters with a prologue

Nice little American town from the 1930s.It has only 15 inhabitants. But one fine day a stranger came to them asking for help and shelter. Such a scenario, sitting in Denmark and having never visited America, was written by the shocking author of the Dogma 95 manifesto Lars von Trier in 2003.

Actually, the Dane did not make a movie, but recorded the play on tape. The film has a minimum of scenery, everything takes place on a conventional theater stage, built in a pavilion, where the houses and streets of the town have special designations. This picture is the first part of the “USA – Land of Opportunities” trilogy.

Without betraying his traditions, the director skillfully pulls the strings of the viewer’s emotions. At first, he implants sentimental moments into the fiber of the painting, like a collection of awkward porcelain sculptures in the only store in town that Nicole Kidman Grace’s heroine is so eager to get.

This is followed by unpleasant, and later simply immoral, shots. The author manages to convey all this through the shaking of the camera and in places defocusing of the frames, adding the feeling that the film was filmed by an amateur on an amateur camera (after all, everything was already shot “from the hand”).This is the whole von Trier.

Despite repeated statements by the father of non-conformist cinema that he categorically does not watch American films, this is hard to believe. If this were so, it would be at least impossible to choose the actors so subtly, at the most – prohibitive: Nicole Kidman, Lauren Bacall, Chloe Sevigny, Patricia Clarkson, Jeremy Davis, Philip Baker Hall and others, in whose performance the aftertaste is clearly felt previously played roles Of course, the play of Paul Bettany, who showed himself excellently in A Games of the Mind, deserves special attention.Shy and cowardly, his hero skillfully disguises his shortcomings behind imposed courage and a sense of moral responsibility in the struggle for the principles of his fellow citizens.

For each of the inhabitants of this place, which is lost in the northern states in the mountains, the girl who came along the only road that leads both to and from the city has become something of his own. She helped someone to look at things differently, for someone she became a teacher, for some an assistant in matters that did not exist before.

They were all in dire need of her and, in an attempt to hold her back, all 15 people had so bitten into her flesh that Grace would have been left with only a pile of bones for breakfast for the watchdog. But they are just people. People who are kind on the outside, but wolves at heart. Having asked for protection, the wanderer was forced to look for her from the city itself, in order to escape from its tenacious arms.

Marking this film as a heavy drama with thriller elements is like bursting a non-existent bubble. This is something else. From the beginning of this picture, a small gap breaks, but soon it grows and from there such a wave of rotten entrails and excrement of a cute town is already gushing out that you automatically plug your nose with anything from the persistent musty stench.

The one who shouts the loudest about morality is the most likely to receive proud immoral orders. Here it is, the concept of human existence. Even the most humble and seemingly responsible person with good intentions can turn out to be the last scum. But who knew what was hidden in the bosom of this unfortunate fugitive. And out of ignorance, the locals themselves forced her to get her trump card out of the gate. “There is a city without which the world will be better. And this is Dogville. ”

You can compare this picture with something else for a long time, draw analogies and parallels. But one thing will remain the main feature – this is a kind, without guile, an ironic look at where his essence ends in a person and hell begins. And in this story you can see all of his 9 circles.

Very deep and multi-layered film.I watched it a few days ago, but I still think about it from time to time.

This is the second painting by Lars von Trier, which I looked at. The first was Melancholy. She didn’t impress me. But ‘Dogville’ was a real discovery. He literally shocked me. There are many interesting and deep moments in the picture that make you think for a long time. Some of them lead to ‘eternal’ questions.

There are also many original findings of the director. To show the whole city ‘without windows, without doors’, where everything is hidden and at the same time in plain sight – in my opinion, this is a great idea.

I thought for a long time about the moment when Grace threw open the curtains at McKay’s house. After all, she did it on purpose or not? I do not know. I am not sure and therefore I will not argue. But I suppose that is not on purpose.

You can pick up many epithets for ‘Dogville’: exciting, terrible, magnificent, terrible … All of them will be fair, because human society and the qualities of the human soul are just as multifaceted. In any case, I think that such a movie should be watched, because it provides a lot of food for thought.

P. S. Probably the most pleasant surprise of ‘Dogville’ for me was the appearance on the screen of James Caan , and even as a mafia boss! In my opinion, this role suits him very much. In ‘The Godfather’, his Sunny never had a chance to become the head of the Corleone clan, and here in ‘Dogville’ the hero of James Caan is a kind of ‘don’ to us. I don’t know if von Trier did it on purpose with a hint of ‘The Godfather’ or not, but that doesn’t matter.Anyway, thanks to him, because it turned out great!

Here they throw a bone to a dog drawn in chalk on the floor. The bells are struck to measure the hours that no one needs, going nowhere. They mistrust strangers and do not pay attention to the fact that the whole life has long ago turned into a set of conventions and habits passed down from generation to generation … Reminds the life of the community from ‘Breaking the Waves’, doesn’t it?

The film catches, first of all, by the fact that for all the conventionality and non-reality of the scenery, it is itself paradoxically realistic – due to psychological accuracy, plausibility of characters, logical development of the plot. This is where the first ‘recognition’ comes in: alas, Dogville reminds not only the Bess community, it resembles many different communities, villages, cities and people living in them – it resembles life. This is the main horror: in order to see such people and such a life, it is not necessary to go to the end of the world, to the godforsaken Rocky Mountains. In general, it is not necessary to go anywhere: all this is here and now, around. It has always been, and no time will change it.

Grace’s arrival in the village becomes a kind of litmus test, a test for humanity: will the residents of the town be able to accept the gift sent by heaven itself? Will the angel himself, who came down from heaven, be accepted – compassionate, disinterested and ready to help everyone? The answer is yes. They will be able to. They will be able to accept, evaluate, adapt for the household and use with maximum utility, squeezing out of the ‘gift’ everything that is possible – to the last drop. Easily.

So what’s the fault of the people of Dogville? Was it not because they behaved naturally, in obedience to their nature? But their desires are utterly natural: what’s so strange about wanting to work less? Getting more attention? Protecting your children? Hiding your weakness? These desires are simple and natural, almost instinctive. It remains only to find this line separating naturalness and animality. And Dogville’s story shows how thin this line is and how easily and imperceptibly it is passed.

Trier places his characters in almost laboratory conditions, where nothing can affect the purity of the experiment: even a dog here has no right to be real: people and only they are real. The minimum of details makes the viewer, throughout the entire film, attached to a ruthless gaze of Dogville’s life – in all its absurd ‘correctness’, where everyone is busy with their own meaningless business – wiping glasses from which no one drinks, or selling figurines that there is no one to buy.In all its pettiness and limitation. A meaningless life that can be endlessly criticized, despised and ridiculed, while not ceasing to recognize it here and there.

None of the townspeople realize that he is now on stage, surrounded by scenery. That he has a chance to play a role – whatever, whatever. That when he leaves for his painted house, he does not hide from the world there and does not cease to exist. That his every step is visible to everyone and is known to everyone. Each of them gets so used to someone else’s deafness that he does not think that his actions can be evaluated by someone from the outside.

So what do the people of Dogville deserve? Is forgiveness appropriate here? Trier’s answer is unequivocal, and difficult to disagree with. This answer is a rejection of arrogance … and its only possible consequence in this situation.

It is worth paying attention to a very unexpected postscript for the film: a selection of photographs serving as a background for the end credits shows us the same: faces – tired, dirty, cruel and meaningless. People who don’t give a damn about anything. Indifference in the eyes. “I didn’t make them up,” says Trier. “They are. They live. Here they are. See how many there are? ‘ And do they have the right? ..

‘This film by Danish director Lars von Trier is aesthetically shocking from the very first shot.’…

This frame is ascetic, as if cardboard-theatrical decorations of a small town forgotten by God with a dog painted on the asphalt (Dog? Ville) with the meaningful name Moses, invented doors and white outlines of gooseberry bushes. And also this voice-over, and the table of contents of the film with prologues and chapters refer to some already well-known, but forgotten fairy tale about a beautiful princess locked in a damp dungeon. What are fairy tales? The presence of good and bad, their battle and the final victory of the good. But somehow this fairy tale is presented to the audience in a very realistic and painful way.

The ‘splinters’ of the ‘villains’ are growing by leaps and bounds in the soil of power and obedience. Hypocritical virtue is a powerful fertilizer. And all this growth is watched by a ‘good’ who digs up the earth hardening in the hot sun with a hoe. And this arrogance .. But actually, what is it? Maybe just what makes you consider ‘good’ to be good, a stronghold of morality and moral foundations? Think about this and about many other things when watching Doggville, where everything is not so simple, because every word, phrase or action is a thought that is revealed in words only at the end. When, already in a state, shaking with indignation, the final verdict comes true, asking new, even more confusing questions and a point, in the form of photographs of real, ‘not fabulous’ characters.

‘We need an example to show people who they really are.’ Is there really such an example for us, such ‘good’, that reveals the truth about our own nature?

Four years have passed since I was advised to see Dogville.I started watching several times, but somehow I could not overpower myself and watch the movie, in which there are practically no scenery, to the end.

Looked. I came to the conclusion that you stop noticing the absence of walls after 30 minutes of viewing. The viewer builds these walls himself, makes Dogville what he wants to see him. But a seemingly glorious town is not as simple as it seems, it is a separate world, in which its own laws and orders, lovely benevolent people who show their ‘teeth’ over time, which demonstrates not the attitude in society, but the attitude of the wolf pack, into which an uninvited guest got in.

Personally, the film made me look at things from a completely different angle. After all, Dogville is not a fictional town in the USA, Dogville is the whole world …

Do not do evil to your neighbor … if you do not know who his father is

“Dogville” is aesthetically striking from the very first shots: quiet, classical music; calm, wise voice-over and … the absence of any kind of decorations (the house is not four walls fastened with a single foundation, but a conventional chalk drawing on the floor). After watching the film, you get the feeling that all these three hours that the film went on, you were watching not a movie, but a very well-planned theatrical performance, the ending of which knocks down its originality, simplicity and at the same time ambiguity (the titles with frames of the times deserve special praise The Great Depression under David Bowie’s Young americans).

This is really more than just another film (by the way, it was quite averagely received by critics and some viewers, but now it is called one of the best films of the 21st century, and soon, I hope, it will become a classic at all) – on his based on real experiments about the human essence, its nature, civilization in the end.If you wish, you can draw parallels even with the Bible: whether to respond with non-resistance to evil? Should I stand up for an individual when everyone is against him? Moreover, the names in Dogville are predominantly biblical: Olympia, Pandora, Achilles, etc.

All this is supported by some fantastic camera work: the camera periodically shakes (this involuntarily creates the effect of personal presence), takes unimaginable plans, in general, it never stands still – it is always in motion! Also, my highest praise to the artists is the original idea to shoot without any decorations at all. However, at first it looks a little wild, but then you get used to it, and later you can’t even imagine what a movie would be without such an innovative artistic solution! An excellent acting game, and in general everyone, without exception! I never thought that I would say this, but the Hollywood beauty Nicole Kidman really managed to embody the image of a meek and modest girl, whom everyone uses very profitably for themselves (for their intended purpose and without). I would like to say bravo to the entire film crew, without exception, because they all did a huge, difficult job that certainly deserves your attention!

Mary Poppins Returns (2018, Film) – “Too Nauseous.Tired and irritated after this musical film. Going to the cinema with a 7-year-old child. Impression. »

Prehistory

We saw Mary Poppins’ trailer for the first time in early December and were so fascinated that we knew we would go 100% for sure.

The daughter marked the date “January 3” in the calendar – the day of the premiere of this film in the cinemas of Ukraine.

And we waited ..

Then by the middle of December we got very sick, and it just so happened that we got sick until January 1 “inclusive”…. and all the time my daughter kept asking sores “when is Mary Poppins already ?? .. we tried to quickly recover this time for the sake of Mary))) so the premiere of this film was really well, very long-awaited for us!

When on January 2, I went to bed and went to the site to buy tickets for the next day, the ticket sales were not yet open online, and I PUT THE ALARM at 9 a.m. to buy tickets for sure)))) curtain hand face

And waking up early in the morning, I went to the site and found that tickets were sold out for all the sessions I “needed” at 11:00, 13:00, 16:00… and only at 19:00 I finally found a place)) well, this is a joke – I thought)) really so many people are expecting the same as we are, and everyone will trample on to watch ?!))) but it was not funny … the cinemas were full that day, in general, “to the eyeballs” .. so for us going to the cinema also became the most terrible day))))

But phew … we recovered, there are tickets, everything is super, we are on the ground and we are ready get a portion of fabulous wonders!

Plot

Events are taking place in England, London….

Times of the Great Depression

The picture itself is gloomy hazy, probably like everyday London in general)))

But I still like the detailing conveyed in the buildings, the architectural details, the very atmosphere of old London “without pretensions, it came into my head very memorably.

D Hard times for the father of the family Michael Banks , he died a year ago wife, he has 3 children and the only moral help in these difficult times is his sister.

He works in a bank (as I understood as a cashier) and holds on to the robot with all his might, since this is the only way to stay afloat.

At this not an easy time for the whole family, two employees – “collectors” from the bank knock on a visit, and remind Michael that he took out a loan and for 3 months has not made the obligatory amount more than once and this threatens him with the deprivation of his house, which he put as a pledge of money … The father of the family is at a loss, he has no money, he is angry at his helplessness, he worries about the children…

And it was at this time that Mary Poppins appears in their lives

Appears, as they say by magic – from heaven))

This elegant young lady with good manners and proud straight posture (Emily Blunt) immediately surprises children)) and joy in adults)) especially for those who have already had her be familiar))

Note that I have not watched a single version of Mary Poppins – neither Russian production, nor the first part of American production (according to information from the 1964 network). That is, I have this blank white sheet, which I wanted to “sketch” with the help of this picture … At the same moment I did not read written works about the nanny)) that is, in general, in the topic about Mary Poppins, there is a complete zero in my head …

The appearance of “descent from heaven” Mary Poppins in this film seemed quite interesting to me))) and most importantly, very ideological, gray rainy clouds part, the wind stops, the sky becomes brighter .. Mary appears.

That is, for me it is immediately clear that it appears for “new weather”, for new solutions, in order to switch the heroes to a wave of miracles, to make their life brighter and more joyful)

Nanny with he begins to put things in order, explain “his” rules, but show more – “tricks”, songs, dances ..

This comprehensively disconnects children from everyday “adult” problems ..

The nanny really manages to show miracles to the children…

And even to teach a lot …

But …. a large number of frequent songs, dances, switching from one event .. played too much flew in the other direction .. lost connection with the original .. you get tired insanely simple.

Perhaps the producers and screenwriters wanted to link this part with the previous one, to adequately continue and “cram” what is called modern delights, but it all turned out dreary in the soul and bright only on the screen…

I am more than positive about musicals, both films and cartoons …

Remembering our trip to the cinema a year ago on Christmas on the Greatest Showman, which also had enough songs and dances .. I really appreciate how big the gap is between an interesting musical in which you are afraid to miss every minute, and a musical in which you glance at your watch every 10 minutes …

Unfortunately, it was a shame to realize that it was simple spent 2 hours of valuable time of our vacation))) and to school already on January 8th))))

And this is not only my opinion , after 30-40 minutes of the film, alas and ah…. but people from the extreme lateral seats really stupidly left, and by the end of the session it was like in the show “to stay alive” – only the central seats were sitting!))) Many, without even waiting for the last minutes of the denouement of the history of the Banks family, whether their house remained for them, paid off whether Michael with debts … and so on – everything was all right, people ran “like rats from a sinking ship”)) and I support them in this) Everyone came out tired, tortured with emptiness in their eyes … not about any feeling miracles and a holiday in general were out of the question ..

I consider my 7-year-old daughter a real hero O_O… she was so fascinated by the trailer and the expectation that she sat until the last minutes and “tried” to catch the message and joy from the film, but in the end expressed her opinion “mom, this is the most boring thing I’ve seen in the last 100 years “))))

And there was also a joke when my daughter watched the first 10-15 minutes of the film, loudly for the whole audience” ohhh, so this is Positive from Time and Glass “))) and the children are around .. . “yes, yes, for sure he is!”))))))))

Ahahahhah you really know))) the similarity of actor Ben Whishaw in this film (more familiar from the film Perfumer) and the lead singer of the group Time and Glass, colossal)))) that’s where the frenzy is)))

I am glad that even in this boring story, hilarious moments discovered)

That’s it, friends, I have everything))

I do not advise wasting time on the movie “Mary Poppins Returns”…

The actors’ play is “very childish”, the songs do not touch the soul at all and do not remain even for a second in the head, empathy does not slip at all, and although Mary Poppins is perfect “from smile to gestures” – but everything But this picture is not ideal (((

Thank you for being in my review!

Dancing to Putin – Vedomosti

If Vladimir Putin has something to fear, then this is that Russians will forget how to dance. This is an unexpected metaphor, but, in our opinion, it can help to better understand the reasons for the fall in the ratings of the Russian president. 90 017 90 014 According to Levada Center polls, approval of Putin’s presidency in January 2019 fell to 64% and has remained at this level since then. This is 25 percentage points below the maximum approval rating since 2010 (it was recorded in June 2015) and only 3 pp higher than the minimum (November 2013). The assessment of the general state of affairs in the country looks more alarming: the balance of answers to the question of whether the country is moving in the right direction turned negative at the beginning of 2019., for the first time since pre-Crimean times.

We do not know and cannot know for sure what was the impetus for such a sharp (though not at all catastrophic) drop in the president’s rating, as well as for a change in the balance in assessing the vector of the country’s development. We are still talking about the sensations and experiences of tens of millions of people, and this is a subtle matter. Sometimes a person himself does not know what is the reason for a change in his mood.

But if we ignore the momentary, then we can still outline the deep processes that form the dominant trends in the socio-political space. This is exactly what we tried to do in the book, which will be published in Britain in April under the provocative title Putin v. the People. Our research – several waves of surveys, in-depth interviews, and social media data analysis – took six years. We set ourselves the goal of getting to know Putin as Russian citizens know him and trying to explain the amazing phenomenon of his political longevity not by the behavior of Putin himself, but by the behavior of Russian society in all its diversity. And one of the main conclusions of our book is that Putin’s popularity is based not so much on the love of Russians for him as on their relationship with each other.

In the analysis of Russian socio-political life, it is customary to emphasize the political part, leveling the significance of the social component itself. In fact, for various reasons, the social factor plays a key role in determining both the content and dynamics of the Russian political system. To explain one of these reasons, let’s turn to the topic of dance.

When we dance, we can fall in love with the musician whose song we hear, not because he is close to us, but because his music allows us to feel an exciting closeness with others – both with a partner and with all the dancing people around us.Later, hearing the same melody, we involuntarily recall that feeling of unity, that unforgettable connection, even if fleeting, but still strong and emotionally saturated.

So Putin turned out to be dear to millions of Russians not because he established some kind of personal connection with them, but because to the music he played, they felt like a part of something larger, immanent, exciting, maybe even a little dangerous. In the midst of the Crimean and Donbas events, Russians began not only to watch more television news, but to discuss them more and more deeply with each other. For many, the politician has turned from a personal and in many ways hated affair into something almost sacred, their lives filled with a feeling of connection, unity with other and pleasant emotions – pride, hope, trust.

It is important to note, of course, that the Crimean Rhapsody not only brought people closer, but also divided them. Not all Russians approved of the methods of “reunification” with the peninsula, and they were even less happy about the war in Donbass and the tainted relations with Europe and the United States. The opposition, hardened during the “swamp” protests, has long learned to listen to a different kind of music that the majority hears.

The habit of not turning on the television has also allowed opposition citizens to resist earlier attempts to create a pro-Kremlin conservative consensus, whether around offended religious feelings, the dangers of promoting non-traditional sexual relations, or the adoption of Russian orphans by Americans. Our polls back in 2013 showed that people for whom television was not the main source of news looked at such questions in a completely different way from the majority of respondents.

The Ukrainian crisis has exacerbated this gap. Insulting the feelings of believers and LGBT propaganda were, albeit overblown, but relatively marginal topics, and if desired, they could be avoided in communication with colleagues, relatives and friends. There was nowhere to go from Crimea. The mass ecstasy of “returning to their homeland” was sickening for individual citizens, largely because it emphasized their sad isolation. Unable to order other music, they chose to wear headphones. And the enthusiastic majority continued to ignore them with relief.

So what happened now? After all, the music did not stop playing, and even the sharp minor notes of the economic crisis did not confuse anyone for more than four years.

Any song, of course, may sooner or later get bored, and perhaps for some it was fatigue from the Crimean rhapsody that caused a change in attitudes towards Putin, and also towards assessing the situation in the country as a whole. But if the reason for Putin’s rise was a sense of unity, then the reason for his conditional fall can be found in the loss of that same feeling.

The only reliable version here cannot be, but, perhaps, our main hypothesis is that at some point Russian citizens looked around and began to notice that everyone began to dance out of order. The pension reform certainly played a role, as did the empty campaign statements about the end of the crisis and the growth of the well-being of ordinary people. Thus, disagreements arose not only and not so much with the authorities, as with fellow citizens who tried to understand whether to continue to admire or whether one could already start to worry.Harmony has turned into dissonance. The rhythm of the general dance was out of order. The feeling of the rapidly emerging unity was replaced by the fear of loneliness. And the musician at the ball suddenly turned out to be superfluous.

If we are right, then Putin’s salvation is not in his hands. Having lost interest in dance, Russians return to their private concerns. They have something to take care of, because the crisis has affected everyone. If the economy goes up, then there is every reason to believe that Putin’s rating will not fall further, and may even grow a little. But this will mean a return to the state of 2012–2013, when Putin was approved situationally, and not unconditionally loved.

Many, of course, can be grateful to him for the Crimea and for the joy of “getting up from their knees”, but even they cannot rejoice only in the memory of the past. People want new sensations, and only they can decide to what kind of new music they are ready to turn to face each other again and, if they are lucky, find in each other’s eyes a reason to fall in love with the musician again. Whoever he was.

Complications after coronavirus. What new data scientists have received | World Events – Estimates and Forecasts from Germany and Europe | DW

About two-thirds of patients with COVID-19 treated in hospital suffer from one or more consequences of coronavirus infection even six months after infection. This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted in Wuhan, China, published on January 8 in the medical journal The Lancet. The most common long-term effects of covid on the body are muscle aches, fatigue, and mental disorders such as anxiety and depression.

Wuhan study following the coronavirus outbreak

“Our analysis shows that most patients continue to live with some of the effects of the virus after being discharged from the hospital, and highlights the need for further testing after discharge, especially if the disease has been severe,” says Bin Cao , one of the study authors and deputy director of the China National Center for Clinical Research on Respiratory Diseases.

Patients with covid in a clinic in Wuhan in February 2020

Scientists examined 1733 infected people discharged from the Jin Yin Tan Hospital in Wuhan from January 7 to May 29, 2020. The average age of the subjects was 57 years old, 52 percent of them were men, 48 percent were women. The majority (1172 patients), while in the hospital, were transferred to supplemental oxygen supply. From mid-June to early September last year, the patients were examined again.Using questionnaires, as well as laboratory tests and endurance tests, the scientists found that 76 percent of the subjects had at least one symptom that had accompanied them since they were infected.

Fatigue and weakness after coronavirus

Fatigue or muscle weakness was reported by 63 percent of those surveyed. 26 percent had difficulty sleeping, another 23 percent complained of anxiety or depression. Laboratory tests also showed that 13 percent of patients who had normal kidney function during their hospital stay later experienced deterioration.

A patient with a severe form of covid receives oxygen through a ventilator

In patients with a particularly severe course of the disease, even after several months, impaired lung function was observed, accompanied by a deterioration in breathing. The findings of the Chinese scientists are in line with other studies conducted to date on long-term complications from COVID-19. Nevertheless, the authors point out some weaknesses in their work.

Complications after mild covid

Thus, among the subjects there were relatively few people with chronic pulmonary or cardiovascular diseases. However, information about this is not based on the surveys of scientists, but on the statements of the patients themselves. This could lead to incorrect estimates.

In addition, the group of subjects did not include those infected with the coronavirus with mild symptoms of COVID-19, because this category of patients simply did not get to the Jin Yin-Tan hospital – they were sent to other medical facilities.

Covid patient at Leipzig Hospital

“This circumstance could lead to an incorrect estimate of the number of those suffering from the long-term consequences of coronavirus infection,” said Jördis Frommhold, chief physician of the department of respiratory diseases and allergy at the German Median clinic in Heiligendammme, where they are undergoing rehabilitation after COVID-19.

Frommhold says that, along with people who barely notice the infection and then recover completely, and those with severe illness who end up in intensive care, there is also a third group. “These patients have a mild course of the disease. They may only be hospitalized for a short time, but then they have symptoms for up to three months,” says Frommhold.

Do you need rehabilitation after COVID-19

Like Chinese scientists, Frommhold names among the long-term complications after covid, first of all, fatigue and muscle weakness. But people come to her with neurological problems, joint pain and hair loss. First of all, she says, these people are extremely insecure because they do not understand what is happening to them.

Therefore, Frommhold welcomes every study on possible complications after COVID-19. To date, 300 people have undergone rehabilitation in Heiligendamm, most of them are between 30 and 65 years old. They were never able to fully recover from their illness and return to work.“People suffering from the consequences of a mild illness often don’t even know where to go,” Frommhold adds. Family doctors are often unable to help, she said, and rehabilitation services are usually only available to those with severe illness. “It is very important to explain what symptoms may occur,” stresses Frommhold. But for this, according to scientists from Wuhan, it is necessary “to conduct longer observations on larger populations in order to understand the full spectrum of the impact of COVID-19 on people.”

long-awaited series about “special” parenting – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Tennant and Hines play a married couple, Simon and Emily, who have two children – teenager Ben and junior high school student Rosie. Rosie is born with a rare and poorly understood genetic abnormality, which, as doctors warn, will significantly affect her development. And the parents now and then freeze over the little creature in indecision, trying to read in her every look, in every movement something of what the future is preparing for them. Meanwhile, it is rapidly flowing into the present, which is truly not appreciated by anyone and, as it were, not noticed.

And life continues to boil around – Ben is growing, he has his own needs. But questions – they often arise from outsiders, as well as unsolicited comments and exclamations. With relatives, the situation seems to be simpler, but only at first glance. In their determination to give the general situation a “normality” of this sought-after term, it is just as expected and not visible. But there is zapoloshnost and a convulsive desire to ignore the obvious. And for Simon and Emily, the feigned gaiety and optimism, which is not at all easy for the older generation, becomes another reproach.

Thanks to numerous flashbacks and a return to the reality when Rosie has already grown up and goes to correctional school, director Simon Hind and screenwriters Sean Pie and Sarah Crawford very painstakingly, without labeling, talk about what is happening in the internal dynamics of the family, external expression which, at first glance, become not particularly remarkable changes in the balance of power.

Simon increasingly feels like a clumsy and incompetent parent, gradually distancing himself, which causes his wife’s indignation. He gently, unnoticed by himself and others, goes into depression, becoming a regular at a nearby pub, over and over again trying to speak out, but every time he stops himself. If he does not show that he is desperate, then his friends can no longer look at him without frank pity, or even boredom. Along the way, Simon is trying to get support from his own father, at the same time reopening an old wound – a relationship with him that did not work out in childhood. His father, perhaps, would be happy to help, only he is a man of a different generation, while he was earning food, Simon and his sister were raised by his mother, who simply did not encounter anything like this. And in general – why stir up the old, the son has grown into a hefty man, let it be better to think about earnings!

Emily is saved by the scientific mindset and the understanding that no one except her can adapt the “new reality” to the lives of others and vice versa. Over time, time appears to realize overnight abandoned professional ambitions, and as soon as emotionally and physically it becomes a little easier, a place is freed up for other needs related not to survival, but to comfort – physical and mental. And much in the surrounding reality begins to surprise, annoy and outrage.

And in addition to all this, there is such an interesting component of these relations as an external society, which includes neighbors, teachers, acquaintances, employees of various services, and sometimes casual acquaintances. They either raise their eyebrows in surprise, or stick with completely inappropriate motivational speeches, or give birth to nauseatingly false panegyrics, or look sympathetically at the tired faces of their guardians, trying to see in them something that will confirm their own suspicions. But the main thing is that they do all this not for Simon and Emily, as they try to present it, but for themselves. They are thus trying to cope with their own awkwardness, recode it in any of the acceptable styles of behavior, get along with this exception to the rule. And, as it were, they demand to evaluate their efforts – with a mournful lowering of their eyes, sympathetic assent, or a joyful smile.

And after all, we are talking about at least insincere, but outwardly rather friendly and restrained environment. In addition to mutual accounts in front of each other and the inescapable sense of guilt before Rosie and Ben at the same time, the process of self-flagellation and remorse is launched every time in a new way: no one is obviously to blame for what happened, the severity of the situation is shared by the spouses, but in what is happening around them, with their participation – willingly or unwillingly – involves others. And now exhausted parents are uncomfortable in front of everyone, including the inner circle. For specific everyday manifestations of the very mysterious and unknown, in which no one is to blame.Again and again.

One can, of course, in the spirit of the great classics of Russian literature, say that there is not enough love, compassion and other virtues in the world. However, this is hardly the case. It’s just that any feature is always a collision with the unfamiliar and incomprehensible. With that in respect of which no templates have been worked out, against which powerful armor has not been created, its own “civilian” mask has not been drawn. And you don’t need to try to normalize it. You just need to accept it and, as far as your own internal resources allow, understand.

And Rosie, the one that others try to imagine “suffering” from the disease, is cheerful, full of energy, sensitive to the emotional environment of others and is a real barometer that accurately guesses the level of pressure and tension. And discharges it as best it can. Others cannot do anything. And when least of all something is expected of her, she surprises with a real breakthrough. Indeed, for Rosie personally, a person truly without conventions, this is not something supernatural, since this measure, again, is a purely value characteristic. So maybe sometimes you need to be a little simpler and at least bother analyzing what the individual expectations and your own behavior come from? This close interweaving of mutually exclusive attitudes shows that even the most open-minded competence-based approach is not alien to predetermined limitations.

In addition to the amazing naturalness and at the same time complex questions that the series poses, it is captivating that there is no morality in it. It shows the uneasy coexistence of different people who put on an unbearable burden due to irrevocable external circumstances and clung to it for lack of anything better. And this applies in its own way to everyone, with the happy exception of Rosie. Parents, no doubt, perform an everyday civic feat. But it is not always necessary to remind about it.

Oh, by the way. Miley Locke, the most talented performer of the main role, without exaggeration, has no violations. Perhaps this will anger defenders of all forms of “equality and diversity” who advocate that screen images are always performed without exception by those who belong to the minority portrayed. But how could this affect such a leading actor and his state of mind? That’s what we’re talking about. Sometimes you need to be simpler, keeping in mind all the complexities of which this simplicity is woven.

I walked a long way on a clear day,
The soul was full of wonderful feelings,
And suddenly I noticed on my way
A big bunch of fresh shit.
I could bypass this fecal hill,
Hand holding your nose with disgust,
But the waterfall carried me away with thoughts
Into the world of sensual and philosophical dreams...
From the bud that grew on the tree,
A flower arose, and as if merging with it,
The bee took divine nectar,
The birds caressed with their voice.
The fruit soon grew from the flower of that
He eagerly drank the moisture of the earth,
And its juicy ripe pulp
The tired wanderer quenched his hunger.
Digesting this fruit with your gut
And feeling the heaviness in the buttocks,
The pilgrim sat down and relieved himself -
And again I sensed a fresh tide of strength.
And the heap will soon fall into the ground,
Giving her both food and his love,
A flower in spring will bloom on a branch -
The chain of transformations will repeat again.Because that shit is just an episode
From the boundless book of Genesis,
Like a tree, like that flower, like a fruit,
And like a tired pilgrim ... like me.
So saddled the horse's fantasies,
He galloped headlong into a gallop -
The sight of the heap didn't bother me anymore
I stepped into it with a confident foot.
Only the sickening smell from under your feet
I was distracted all the way from my thoughts,
Having descended from heaven, I could notice -
It's all the fault of the feces stuck to the shoes.
Finally waking up from sweet naps,
I grasped the basis of wisdom then:
Once a heap a mile away carries shit -
You shouldn't enter there for anything.

Autumn has come - it has become cold
Crucians died in the pond ...
The women are crazy - they want an orgasm.
Where can I get it in Russia?

In the woods and noise and din.
Probably the name day.
And the Hare was invited there,
Got drunk like a beast
He climbed onto a stump and started a speech:
- The mistress is fucking, the pie is shit,
Cutlets - fucking horse meat, -
I fucked such a name day in my mouth!
Well, I went, give me a hat and a coat ...
Then the Hedgehog came out from under the bench:
- Yes, you will not go anywhere!
- Shut up, prickly cunt, you are cleaning the trains!
- I'll tell Leo, the king of beasts!
- I fucked such kings into the mouth!
Here Lyova ran past and heard the Kosoy speech:
- Whom - who, oblique whore, are you going to fuck ?!
- You, fucking sandwich, sausage fucking freak!
Then the Hare whistled a couple of times - the shobla rolled out of the forest,
And she broke into Leo PIZDYACHIKOV.The moral of that tale is that you can fuck Leo with a shobla.

Among the straw and shit
Where Sun used to hook the girls
Oh how beautiful she walked
But was Sun a bastard.
He clung to her all day
Gave gifts
And this San, our dickhead
I wanted some balls.
Balls - and nothing else
He dreamed about it,
The cling of those he who
I saw more breasts.
My friend Sanya became a fine fellow-
Clung without further ado
In eight years he became a specialist
And among the girls, a sage.
Someday the hour will come
And Sun will find the one for himself
What will he say at night will say:
"Fuck you!
Fuck you, hole-breaker "

Got sick – shoot yourself? – News of Kostroma and the Kostroma region

Today is the day of the medical worker in Russia.

There are places in any city that can quickly bring almost anyone to life. They are especially “recommended” for visiting at moments when life is not going well because of too small pearls 🙂

One of the most “innocent” of them is the so-called “trauma”. This institution enjoys special fame in Kostroma. Due to the constant shortage of doctors, there are almost always huge queues of people with suffering wrinkles on their faces and sticky fear in their eyes.

Walls with peeling plaster, hard, uncomfortable benches, nurses with rumbling beads, a sick hospital smell, and what seems to be a never-ending conveyor belt of human organs.

– What happened to you? – raising an eyebrow, the receptionist is interested in an everyday voice. Her glassy, indifferent eyes look tired and prickly. – Here’s your card, take your turn.

Glancing over a dozen people, I understand that it seems to be here for a long time.

The queue in trauma is special. No one swears here, and everyone is patiently waiting for the time to enter the saving office. But this is Russia, so the lady behind whom I took the queue takes out an iFhone and, not hesitating for 15 more patients, dials a “trump” number with the words addressed to her quiet boyfriend: “Why am I going to sit here? !!”

At the other end of the line they promise that now they will probably call her out of turn. It smells hot, I think, and I’m getting ready to watch the gathering storm.

A little boy who injured his leg is staring at the girl. He sits on a bench, ruffled like a sparrow in the rain. Occasionally he glances with hope at the scowling mother, who sits motionless and seems to be going over possible diagnoses in her mind. I smile at him, and he, without averting his eyes, continues to study me and is in no hurry to “return” a smile.

“Thug” impudently approaches the door, from which people with plaster cast and bandaged limbs continue to limp in the summer and the sun.Another half hour passes, and her name is still not heard from behind a white door hung with warning leaflets. After some time, the phone rings and on the other end of the line they say that she will have to go to another building – the doctor who is on duty today, apparently, refused to take her out of turn :). It didn’t work.

Traumatologist, I can tell you, this is not a woman’s profession at all. Here you need nerves of iron and a strong male psyche. Therefore, it is doubly curious to observe a doctor who is currently receiving an appointment.

I wonder if she has time for lunch, I think. It’s almost an hour now, and there is still no smell of a break for eating. From 8 o’clock in the morning, patients come to her in a continuous stream, and hour by hour the line only grows. It’s scary to imagine what would happen if you stop taking at least an hour …

Two hours pass and my wait seems to be coming to an end. I go into the office, and shining, sly-kind eyes are looking at me.

– Will you be vaccinated against tetanus? – the doctor asks after telling about my exploits and examining the wound.

– Why is she? I ask, stammering. At this time, my pupils are trying to crawl out beyond the borders of the iris.

– So from tetanus, – the doctor patiently explains, smiling at me, despite the fact that today I am probably her 30th patient.

I choose a shot in the back because I don’t like the word tetanus at all. A needle sticks into my ribs, then they bandage me, give the last CU and release me into the world.
