What Causes Nausea? – 8 Surprising Reasons You Feel Sick

There’s nothing worse than when you start to get that sick, queasy feeling deep in the pit of your stomach. If you’re not already puking (the absolute worst), it can leave you feeling dizzy, disoriented, and down for the count until you get to the root of the problem.

“Nausea is a very general symptom that can occur in a wide variety of illnesses and as a normal process of your body’s regulation,” says Jayme Hoch, DO, a family medicine physician at Mayo Clinic Health System.

That’s the tricky part: It seems like everything and anything can make you feel nauseous. Stomach flu or food poisoning, motion sickness, early pregnancy, and overeating are common causes.

When your stomach starts rumbling, anti-nausea medications—like Emetrol and Dramamine-N—can help you find relief fast in most cases. If you don’t want to go for meds, some people also find relief from mildly scented oils such as peppermint, lavender, or ginger. (These 15 stomach-soothing remedies are a safe bet, too.)

Still, there are lots of other stomach-turners that may need a little extra attention. Here, eight reasons you can’t shake that queasy feeling—and how you to keep your stomach feeling happy moving forward.

You’re about to get a migraine

Why migraines occur is not fully understood. But they are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. There are multiple theories on how migraines cause nausea, however.

Experts believe the brain chemical serotonin plays a role. The theory? Serotonin sends signals to the blood vessels in your brain, telling them to grow bigger, which can sometimes activate the part of your brain responsible for nausea and vomiting, explains Christine Lee, MD, a gastroenterologist at the Cleveland Clinic.

“Another theory is that migraines influence the part of the brain that is linked to inner ear disturbance, hence the strong correlation with vertigo and dizziness with the symptom of nausea,” Dr. Lee explains.

✖️Nix the nausea: “To prevent migraines, you should avoid common triggers that cause your migraines, including emotional stress, bright lights, strong odors, lack of sleep and not eating,” Dr. Hoch says.

You’re anxious

KoldunovGetty Images

Anxiety can increase activation of your autonomic nervous system, specifically your ‘fight or flight’ reaction,” Dr. Hoch says. When this happens, more of your blood flows to your muscles instead of the organs that make up your digestive system, which causes nausea.

Stress hormones like cortisol, epinephrine, and others also get dumped into your blood, which spikes the number of contractions in your stomach, creating that queasy feeling, Dr. Lee says.

✖️Nix the nausea: The best thing you can do to avoid future bouts of nausea is to find a way to manage your anxiety, says Dr. Hoch. That might mean practicing self-relaxation techniques, going to counseling, exercising, or taking medications prescribed by your doctor. These eight natural anxiety remedies are a good place to start.

You’re dehydrated

Dougal WatersGetty Images

Dehydration occurs when your body doesn’t have enough water to carry out its normal processes—meaning the symptoms go beyond feeling super thirsty.

“When you have less fluid circulating in your body, your body preferentially sends that fluid and your blood flow to the organs it sees as most important—your brain and your heart,” says Dr. Hoch. “This can cause decreased blood flow to the organs of your gastrointestinal tract, causing nausea and abdominal pain.”

✖️Nix the nausea: Filling up on lots of fluids is key. While the ideal amount of water needed varies from person to person, most adults should get anywhere from 11 to 16 cups per day, says Dr. Hoch. That may sound like a lot, but you don’t need to chug from a water bottle to hit that amount. Tea and coffee, seltzer, vegetables like cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as fruits like watermelon all count toward your daily water intake.

Your blood sugar is too low

KhongthamGetty Images

Your hormones work to regulate your blood sugar levels. But if your blood sugar starts to dip too low (known as hypoglycemia), certain hormones (like glucagon and epinephrine) spike to help your body produce more glucose. When this happens, your stomach experiences a surge in signals that can create the sensation of nausea, says Dr. Lee.

“Low blood sugar can also affect your autonomic nervous system, similar to the mechanism of nausea associated with anxiety,” says Dr. Hoch.

✖️Nix the nausea: To help keep your blood sugar steady, go for foods on the lower end of the glycemic index (GI), says Dr. Hoch. The GI measures how quickly the carbs in various foods are broken down to sugar and released into your blood. Most fruits, non-starchy vegetables, legumes, and oats are all great options, according to the American Heart Association.

The timing of your meals matters, too. “Hypoglycemia can be prevented by consuming small frequent meals throughout the day,” says Dr. Hoch. Keep your portion sizes under control, include a mix of lean protein, quality fats, and low-GI carbs (like bulgar, sweet potatoes, and corn), and aim to eat every 3 to 4 hours.

You have acid reflux

TharakornGetty Images

According to Dr. Lee, “gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can cause nausea due to the splashing of gastric acid up and out of the stomach into the lower esophagus,” the tube that connects your mouth and stomach.

This acid can damage the lining of your esophagus, which can make you feel nauseous. Other common symptoms of acid reflux include chest pain, heartburn, trouble swallowing food, or feeling like you have a lump in your throat.

✖️Nix the nausea: Avoid overeating, smoking, drinking too much caffeine or alcohol, and eating spicy, fatty, or acidic foods. These things can make all of the symptoms associated with your acid reflux feel worse, says Dr. Hoch.

It can also be helpful to stay upright for at least 30 minutes following meals. Medications, like Zantac or Nexium, also work to tame your heartburn. (These six natural remedies for acid reflux can help you find relief, too.)

You may have peptic ulcers

elenabsGetty Images

Peptic ulcers—most commonly caused by an infection from an H.plyori bacteria—occur when acid penetrates deep into the mucosal lining of your stomach, causing an open sore. This can lead to burning stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, and nausea, says Dr. Lee.

✖️Nix the nausea: To heal your ulcers, your doc will typically describe antibiotics or drugs to slow the production of stomach acid to aid in the healing process. You might also need to avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (like ibuprofen and naproxen) and steroids since they can increase your risk of peptic ulcers, says Dr. Lee. Alcohol, smoking, and spicy foods can also make your symptoms worse.

To prevent peptic ulcers from coming back, remember to keep things clean. “Good hand washing hygiene is important to avoid contracting an H. pylori infection, which is contracted through fecal or oral transmission,” says Dr. Lee. This means you should lather your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds (be sure to get between your fingers and under your nails).

Your allergies are getting the best of you

NasalCrom Nasal Allergy Symptom Controller

Along with watery eyes, an itchy throat, and constant sneezing, seasonal allergies can cause post-nasal drip, meaning excess mucous in your nose trickles down the back of your throat rather than out of your nostrils. This can easily irritate your throat or cause a cough, but when that mucous makes it’s way down your esophagus and into your stomach, nausea may hit.

✖️Nix the nausea: First thing’s first—try to avoid anything that seems to trigger your allergies (sorry, early morning farmers’ market). Keeping your mucous under control with some over-the-counter allergy meds—like NasalCrom Spray and Claritin—can also help. Just be sure to discuss with your doc. If your allergies become unbearable overall, he or she may recommend prescription-strength medication or even an allergy shot.

You popped a pill on an empty stomach.

seb_raGetty Images

“Nausea is a common side effect of many different medications including antidepressants, blood pressure medications, oral contraceptives, pain medications, antibiotics, and many more,” says Dr. Hoch. Your gut processes food by releasing stomach acid—so when you take a pill before you eat, that acid will still be released, causing irritation or nausea, says Dr. Hoch.

✖️Nix the nausea: First, try taking your meds with food to see if it helps settle your stomach. If the medication itself is actually making you nauseous, talk to your doc about testing out the lowest dose. You may also need to cut out other unnecessary medications or supplements, says Dr. Hoch.

4 Reasons You Feel Sick in the Morning, Even When Not Pregnant

  • Nausea is sometimes a symptom of pregnancy.
  • But people feel sick in the morning for plenty of other reasons.
  • For instance, it could be down to diet, lack of sleep, or anxiety.
  • Mild nausea can be treated with small adjustments.
  • But if it’s a prolonged problem, you should see a doctor.

LoadingSomething is loading.

If you’re a woman, feeling sick in the morning is known as one of the first signs you’re pregnant. But it’s not the only reason you might feel queasy when you wake up.

According to Daniela Jodorkovsky, a doctor interviewed by Refinery29, nausea isn’t always a gastrointestinal issue.

In fact, the feeling of sickness can be linked to your sleep cycles, particularly if you’ve tossed and turned all night or had irregular sleep. Not getting enough sleep disrupts the body’s circadian rhythms — or body clock — which has been linked to numerous disorders and problems, including Alzheimer’s, weight gain, and mental health problems.

Read more: Disrupting your body clock could increase your risk of mood disorders like depression — here’s why

Jodorkovsky said research has shown that your digestive system is linked with your circadian rhythms. All our hormones are in a delicate balance. Some make us sleepy, like melatonin, and some, like ghrelin, control our appetite. So eating or sleeping at irregular times can have more of a prolonged impact on our general health than we realise.

Morning nausea can also be caused by your diet. For example, eating a big meal right before bed might cause acid reflux. It could also be a sign your blood sugar is low. So Jodorkovsky recommends eating something, even if you don’t feel like it.

“While it sounds counterintuitive, eating a light snack or breakfast when feeling nauseated in the morning can alleviate the symptoms altogether,” she said.

Strangely, nasal congestion could also be a culprit. According to Healthline, a blocked nose or sinus congestion can put pressure on your inner ear, leading to an upset stomach and nausea.

Anxiety can cause nausea, especially if there is an event coming up, like an important meeting. These nerves can be channeled positively, but if anxiety is affecting your every day life and you’re suffering frm panic attacks, it could be a sign of an anxiety disorder that needs to be checked by a professional.

Otherwise, the NHS suggests plenty of fresh air, peppermint or ginger tea, distractions like watching films, and smaller, frequent meals may help mild nausea.

“Of course, if you have concerning symptoms like vomiting,

weight loss
, severe headaches, or abdominal pain, see your doctor,” said Jodorkovsky.

Definition, Symptoms, Traits, Causes, Treatment

What Is Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness is nausea and/or vomiting experienced during pregnancy. About eight out of 10 women experience morning sickness during pregnancy, and for many, it is the first symptom of pregnancy.

On average, most women find morning sickness to become less bothersome by somewhere around the end of the first trimester, but that change can also happen sooner or later.

What Does Morning Sickness Feel Like?

Symptoms

Morning sickness begins shortly after your first missed period and usually lasts through the first trimester (12 weeks) before beginning to fade. However, some women experience it through the fifth month of gestation or even throughout the entire pregnancy.

Despite its name, morning sickness can happen any time of the day or night and include the following:

  • A queasy feeling similar to being carsick or seasick
  • Nausea upon waking or after meals
  • On-and-off vomiting along with nausea lasting all day
  • Strong aversion to certain smells and foods

Severe nausea and vomiting, especially if you can’t keep down any liquids, can also result in dehydration, which can be especially harmful during pregnancy. Contact your OB-GYN if you’re experiencing the following signs of dehydration:

  • Passing only small amounts of urine or very dark urine
  • Dizziness when you stand up
  • Racing heart rate

Hyperemesis Gravidarum

Roughly one in 300 women experience an extreme form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes weight loss of 5% or greater as well as problems like malnutrition, retinal hemorrhage, and potential renal and liver damage.

Other symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum include:

  • Bad taste in the mouth
  • Distinct odor to breath (ketotic odor)
  • Excessive salvation (ptyalism)
  • Difficulty reading (from dehydration and changes to the eye)
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Shivering

Severe hyperemesis gravidarum may require hospitalization to address dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and nutrition. Since thyroid problems can lead to hyperemesis gravidarum, people with this condition are typically tested for levels of thyroid hormone.

Diagnosis

Morning sickness is easy to recognize and does not require an official diagnosis, unless symptoms severely impact daily life, begin after nine weeks of gestation, or become severe in the case of hyperemesis gravidarium.

In this case, your doctor may need to rule other causes of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy including:

Common:

Less common:

Causes and Risk Factors

The cause of morning sickness is not yet known, but it’s believed to be related to a heightened sense of smell as well as a sudden increase of the following pregnancy hormones that can slow digestion and result in nausea and vomiting:

Risk Factors

While anyone can experience morning sickness, research has found it’s more likely in women who:

  • Are expecting more than one child
  • Have a history of migraines or motion sickness
  • Have a history of nausea when taking estrogen birth control pills
  • Have experienced morning sickness in previous pregnancies
  • Have mothers who experienced morning sickness during pregnancy

Mornings Sickness and Miscarriage Risk

Although morning sickness is uncomfortable and painful, it does not put the baby at risk and does not increase the risk of miscarriage. In fact, many doctors think it is a good sign that your pregnancy is progressing well, with the placenta producing hormones to sustain the pregnancy.

One study from the National Institutes of Health found that women with a pregnancy confirmed by an hCG test with morning sickness had a reduced risk of pregnancy loss.

Sometimes pregnant women worry that if you’ve had morning sickness and it suddenly ends, it could be a sign of a miscarriage. Usually, that is not the case. But it does make morning sickness more challenging.

Just because some of your pregnancy symptoms have disappeared, even early in the first trimester, does not mean you have had a miscarriage. It is true that fading pregnancy symptoms can occur with a miscarriage, but symptoms can fluctuate or disappear early in a viable pregnancy as well.

Morning Sickness and Other Pregnancy Symptoms

If you have bleeding or cramping along with your loss of morning sickness, however, there is more reason to be concerned about miscarriage—and you should contact your physician right away. If you have no other miscarriage symptoms, chances are nothing’s wrong. If you’re still worried, however, you can check with your physician about it.

Some physicians might be willing to order an early ultrasound or check your hCG levels to help you feel more reassured, especially if you have had a previous missed miscarriage.

Treatment

While there’s no standard treatment or magic cure for morning sickness, there are several diet modifications and medications shown to ease nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.

Diet

When it comes to keeping morning sickness at bay, it’s important to consider what, when, and how much you’re eating.

  • Avoid foods and odors that trigger your nausea, or make it worse.
  • Consider ginger tea or lollipops. Research shows that taking up to one gram of ginger daily is safe for reducing morning sickness during pregnancy.
  • Drink small amounts of fluids throughout the day, and avoid drinking liquids with your meals.
  • Eat 20 minutes before you get up in the morning. Consider keeping plain crackers near your bedside.
  • Prevent an empty stomach by eating small, frequent meals.
  • Skip greasy, spicy, or fatty foods, which can trigger the release of stomach acid and aggravate your digestive system.
  • Try the BRAAT diet, which consists of bland foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, and tea.

Medications

During the first trimester of pregnancy, the embryo (and later the fetus) are particularly sensitive to teratogens, or substances that can cause birth defects. Therefore, it’s a good idea to limit your exposure to medications, including those taken to treat nausea and vomiting, during the first trimester.

During the first trimester, you should only take medications that your OB-GYN recommends and that you absolutely need.

Some medications your doctor might recommend include:

  • Doxylamine-pyridoxine (Diclegis, Bonjesta, and Diclectin)
  • Vitamin B6 (10 to 20 mg, or an injection)
  • Reflux medications (Pepcid)
  • Emetrol
  • Unisom Nighttime Sleep Aid (which combines vitamin B6 and doxylamine.

Antiemetics (anti-vomiting medications), antispasmodics, and antihistamines are generally avoided when treating nausea from morning sickness.

Coping

Beyond dietary changes and medications, there are several other ways to cope with morning sickness.

  • Be honest. Morning sickness is nothing to be ashamed of and it’s OK to ask for help or to tell your loved ones if they’re doing anything to set off your gag reflexes.
  • Distract yourself. Whether you get some fresh air and take a short walk or organize the baby’s room, distracting yourself may help keep your mind off the nausea until it passes.
  • Go the alternative route. Many women find peppermint essential oils and acupressure wrist bands, often marketed as “sea bands,” to be natural, helpful ways to to relieve morning sickness. Talk to your OB-GYN about these remedies to help you better cope with nausea and vomiting.
  • Stay hydrated. Especially if you’re vomiting, it’s important to stay hydrated. What’s more, dehydration can cause nausea. Sip water throughout the day.
  • Track your nausea. Do you feel queasy after you smell your partner’s morning coffee, or does it happen at 3 p.m. each day? While morning sickness can seem random, tracking your symptoms may help you note some patterns or triggers you can potentially avoid.

A Word From Verywell

Take heart: While morning sickness can be a difficult symptom to cope with, it will most likely subside by the fourth month of pregnancy. Do your best to hang in there and practice self-care. Get plenty of rest and keep calm by practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing and meditation. And, remember, as unpleasant as it can be, morning sickness is most often a good sign that your pregnancy is on the right track.

Motion Sickness: Symptoms & Treatment

Overview

What is motion sickness?

Motion sickness occurs when your brain can’t make sense of information sent from your eyes, ears and body. Lots of motion — in a car, airplane, boat, or even an amusement park ride — can make you feel queasy, clammy or sick to your stomach. Some people vomit. Being carsick, seasick or airsick is motion sickness.

Who might get motion sickness?

An estimated one in three people get motion sickness at some point. Women, and children age two to 12 are most at risk. Still, the condition can affect anyone.

These factors increase your chances of getting motion sickness:

Symptoms and Causes

What causes motion sickness?

Your brain receives signals from motion-sensing parts of your body: your eyes, inner ears, muscles and joints. When these parts send conflicting information, your brain doesn’t know whether you’re stationary or moving. Your brain’s confused reaction makes you feel sick.

For example, when riding in a car, your:

  • Eyes see trees passing by and register movement.
  • Inner ears sense movement.
  • Muscles and joints sense that your body is sitting still.
  • Brain senses a disconnect among these messages.

Many actions can trigger motion sickness, such as:

  • Amusement park rides and virtual reality experiences.
  • Reading while in motion.
  • Riding in a boat, car, bus, train or plane.
  • Video games and movies.

What are the symptoms of motion sickness?

Motion sickness can take you by surprise. You may feel fine one moment and then suddenly experience some of these symptoms:

Diagnosis and Tests

How is motion sickness diagnosed?

Your healthcare provider asks you to describe your symptoms and what brings on these symptoms. Your healthcare provider may also perform a physical exam and check your eyes and ears.

Management and Treatment

How is motion sickness managed or treated?

You have some options to prevent motion sickness or treat symptoms. Motion sickness treatments include:

  • Antihistamines: Commonly used to treat allergies, antihistamines can also prevent motion sickness and ease symptoms. Only antihistamines that cause drowsiness are effective. Nondrowsy formulas won’t help.
  • Patches: Scopolamine skin patches (Transderm Scop®) or oral pills prevent nausea and vomiting. You stick the patch behind your ear at least four hours before traveling. After three days, you remove the patch and apply a new one. This medication can cause dry mouth and is only approved for adults.

What are the complications of motion sickness?

Motion sickness doesn’t tend to cause serious problems. Rarely, some people can’t stop throwing up. Excessive vomiting can cause dehydration and low blood pressure (hypotension).

Prevention

How can I prevent motion sickness?

These actions can lower your chances of getting sick or ease symptoms if they occur:

  • Herbs: Breathe in soothing mint, ginger or lavender scents. Suck on hard candies made with peppermint or ginger.
  • Diet and drink: Drink plenty of water. Choose low-fat, bland, starchy foods before traveling. Avoid heavy meals and greasy, spicy or acidic foods that can upset your stomach. Don’t drink alcohol or smoke.
  • Fresh air: Direct air vents to blow toward you. And roll down windows in cars.
  • Distant gaze: Put down the phone, tablet or book. Instead, look at an object in the distance or at the horizon.
  • Lie back: Recline, if possible, and close your eyes.
  • Pressure points: Wear acupressure wristbands.

You should always face forward when traveling. Where you sit can also make a difference to minimize disruptive motion:

  • Boat: Sit in the middle of the boat on the upper deck.
  • Bus: Choose a window seat.
  • Car: Sit in the front passenger seat.
  • Cruise ship: Book a cabin toward the front or middle of the ship. If you can, choose one on a lower level, closer to the water.
  • Plane: Sit in the wing section.
  • Train: Choose a forward-facing window seat.

Outlook / Prognosis

What is the prognosis (outlook) for people who have motion sickness?

Motion sickness can make traveling stressful and unpleasant. But symptoms should go away when you stop moving.

Living With

When should I call a healthcare provider?

You should call your healthcare provider if you experience:

  • Chronic, persistent nausea or vomiting.
  • Motion sickness symptoms when you’re not involved in a moving activity.
  • Signs of dehydration.

What questions should I ask my healthcare provider?

You may want to ask your healthcare provider:

  • How can I prevent motion sickness?
  • What is the best treatment for motion sickness?
  • What are treatment side effects?

A note from Cleveland Clinic

Almost everyone feels motion sickness at some point. The queasiness and nausea may make you throw up. You can’t always escape the movement that’s making you sick, especially when traveling. If you’re prone to motion sickness, talk to your healthcare provider about ways to prevent getting sick and what to do if you get sick. You can take steps to have a better travel experience without the need for a barf bag.

Why Workouts Can Make You Feel Like Throwing Up

It’s workout time—and, boy, are you ready. You blocked off your schedule. You set out clothes ahead of time. You’re optimistic about starting a new habit. So why are you suddenly feeling sick after just a few minutes on the elliptical?

First, know that this doesn’t quite translate to your fitness level. Experiencing nausea during workouts is common, and can be described as exercise-induced nausea.

What’s happening is this: As you begin to exercise, your body diverts blood from your stomach and rushes it to your muscles and skin. “During exercise, up to 80 percent of our blood flow is going to active skeletal muscles and the skin—and is being diverted from areas such as the abdomen,” says Tamara Hew-Butler, DPM, PhD, an associate professor of exercise science at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. For some people, this lack of blood flow can result in feeling nauseated.

Fortunately, you can minimize or eliminate exercise-induced nausea by adjusting a few elements of your routine.

What Affects Exercise-Induced Nausea

How soon you eat before exercising.

A common culprit is consuming food too close to workout time. Hew-Butler says she can’t eat within two hours of exercising, but notes that others can eat immediately before and have no problems. “It’s really individual,” she says, adding that people need to experiment with different types of food and the timing of eating before exercise to avoid getting nauseous.

As for snacks during the workout, unless you’re exercising for more than two hours, you don’t need food. “If you’re exercising for less than this, generally you don’t need anything to eat to keep blood sugar levels stable,” Hew-Butler says.

How much you drink during exercise.

After all the advice you’ve heard about drinking more water, it turns out that hydrating too much can result in problems. Too much water intake can cause the brain to swell, Hew-Butler says. “When there are any changes to the brain, one of the first signs is nausea and/or vomiting.”

However, the fix is easy: In general, you should drink when you’re actually thirsty. “We have a very evolved mechanism to maintain proper hydration, and that’s called thirst,” says Martin D. Hoffman, MD, a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at University of California, Davis. “If someone is hydrated appropriately before they start exercising, and they’re only exercising for an hour, they don’t need any fluid, even if it’s really hot.

The intensity of your workout.

If you’re a very driven person, you might be tempted to tackle exercise with the same all-or-nothing attitude. But pace yourself, sister. Taking on too much too fast could be the cause of your discomfort.

“If you’re just starting exercise, you’re not used to the activity, so you may get nauseous in the beginning,” Hew-Butler says. Going at maximum intensity on a stationary bicycle for just 30 seconds is enough to make many people nauseated. Hew-Butler says that people need to gradually increase both the duration and intensity of the exercise.

If, on the other hand, it’s a more-fit workout buddy who’s pushing you beyond your limits, ask to take the next session down a notch (or three). Or consider finding a new partner who’s at a similar fitness level.

In the end, finding out what’s causing your exercise-induced nausea is a process of self-experimentation, Hew-Butler says. “You have to find out what you can tolerate, and what makes it better and what makes it worse.”

Why do you feel sick in the morning (and you aren’t pregnant)? | British GQ

**Dear GQ Doc,

Why is it that when I wake up really tired I sometimes feel sick?

Ted, via email.**

I have absolutely no idea. I mean, usually there’s at least some vague notion percolating in my head (and hopefully enough to formulate a theory), but this time I am officially cognitively dry. So I went to the research papers. Nothing concrete there. The forums? Don’t ask. Going offline, I regressed to the medical textbooks. Again, nothing solid. To answer this, it was time to go back to basics and reverse engineer the question…

What is nausea?

Start simple. This is that unpleasant and painless subjective feeling that you are about to vomit. It doesn’t always mean that you will but you might.

How does the body make you feel nauseous?

Less simple. Ultimately it is an unbelievably complex physiological process (that nobody really fully understands) triggered by interactions between your psychological states, nervous systems, dysregulation in your gastrointestinal system (especially your stomach) and your endocrine (hormone) system. In short, your stomach and your brain talk shit to each other. Which is in part why your stomach is called your “second brain”.

Why call your stomach your second brain?

Between your stomach and brain is a motorway of nerves, chemicals and hormones. Their role is to feed back how hungry you are and, interestingly, whether you are experiencing stress. And it’s not a one-way street. Not only can your stomach send messages to your brain about the state of your gut, this motorway also allows for your brain to directly impact your stomach – including triggering the production of excess acid when stressed.

Five reasons this nausea pathway is activated when exhausted

Here’s the rub. There are more than 93 causes of nausea, a list with broad categories from drugs and alcohol, gastrointestinal and cardiac disorders, to cancer and central nervous system dysfunction. But we don’t have time for all that. Instead, here are the five most suspected factors that may trigger the nausea process when waking early or exhausted.

1. Stress

Your stomach produces excess acid when stressed or tired and this in turn irritates its lining and triggers nausea. It then settles with food by dissipating your stomach acids.

2. Dehydration

A dehydrated body can trigger nausea. Overnight it’s easy to dehydrate (and exacerbated if you’ve had some alcohol). When you take on fluid, the symptoms settle.

3. Elevated vasopressin hormone

Made in the hypothalamus of your brain, vasopressin rises due to our first two factors (dehydration and stress) and is associated with nausea onset.

4. Central nervous system response to waking

The shock of waking when exhausted triggers a rapid spike in your sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system and can trigger nausea.

5. Low blood sugars

Heavy meals can trigger a blood sugar crash (due to the insulin spike), which among other symptoms, causes nausea.

Basically, we’ve no idea and it’s probably a mix of all the above.

Irrespective, the treatment seems to be get over the shock, grab breakfast and have a nap later.

Nausea after Breakfast | Livestrong.com

If you feel nauseous at breakfast, it could be because of the food, the time or a related condition. Feeling nauseous every morning for a prolonged period may also be an early sign of pregnancy. You can often prevent nausea at breakfast with a few changes to your morning meal and your routine. If your nausea makes you vomit regularly, develop a fever or otherwise feel weak and unwell, speak to a doctor.

Breakfast

The much-praised “most important meal of the day,” breakfast also comes at a sensitive time for some people’s digestive systems. If you get up at dawn and try to eat a large meal straight away, it might not sit well on your stomach. Digestion slows down at night, so your stomach may not be ready to take on a lot of food first thing in the morning. Similarly, if you ate a large meal just before bed the night before, nausea at breakfast could be the consequence.

Breakfast Types

Fatty, fried or strongly flavored foods at breakfast can be a recipe for nausea. For example, bacon with syrup and eggs contains a lot of sugar, fat and protein. First thing in the morning, this could make you feel queasy. Opt for light, wholesome foods for breakfast. This might help you reduce nausea and get proper nutrition to prepare you for the day. For example, try whole-grain cereals, light yogurt, fresh fruit smoothies and low-fat protein sources such as hard-boiled eggs or wholewheat toast with peanut butter.

Morning Sickness

If you’re pregnant and feel nauseous at breakfast, you may have morning sickness. This affects up to 80 percent of all pregnant women to some degree, according to Health Services at Columbia. The sickness most commonly starts early in the first trimester and lasts until the 16th week. It’s likely a result of all the hormonal changes going on in your body. This slows digestion and makes it more difficult to break down rich foods. You may find that eating plain bread or cereal settles your nausea better than a heavy cooked breakfast.

Medication

Some drugs or treatments cause side-effects such as nausea and vomiting, especially around food. For example, some cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy trigger symptoms of nausea. These may get worse during breakfast when you smell cooked food. Other medications such as antidepressants, cough syrups or painkillers may also trigger nausea. Your doctor can alert you if nausea is a medication side effect, and recommend alternative drugs if available.

90,000 Stir up, horror! Why Nausea Occurs | Healthy life | Health

A word to our expert, to an angioneurologist, author of books on healthy lifestyles, Evgeny Shirokov .

Among the reasons that can lead to nausea, there are:

Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Their spectrum is very wide. Nausea is accompanied by gastritis, enteritis, colitis, enterocolitis and other inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Concomitant symptoms : abdominal pain of various localization, diarrhea, heartburn, impaired appetite.

Is it worth worrying : an emergency call for an ambulance and hospitalization requires an attack of acute pancreatitis, accompanied by severe pain radiating to the back, and nausea, which ends with vomiting that does not bring relief. An acute attack of cholecystitis with paroxysmal, sharp pain that radiates to the right half (under the scapula, collarbone, neck), with a metallic taste in the mouth and vomiting, which also does not bring relief, cannot be left without urgent medical care.

In other cases, you need to contact a gastroenterologist and routinely undergo, depending on the problem, a number of examinations (gastroscopy, ultrasound of the abdominal organs, colonoscopy, general and biochemical blood tests).

Poisoning. Nausea is not complete without any infectious disease in which there is a symptom of intoxication (poisoning with toxic substances).

Concomitant symptoms : diarrhea, profuse vomiting, which brings relief, severe weakness, drop in blood pressure.

Is it worth worrying : in case of severe dehydration, patients with acute food poisoning sometimes have to be hospitalized in an infectious diseases hospital. Indicators of the severity of the disease are the frequency and abundance of vomiting and loose stools (up to 10–20 times), severe weakness, lowering blood pressure, frequent pulse.

Meningeal syndrome. Nausea is a companion of such a formidable condition as meningitis – a neuroinfection, accompanied by inflammation of the meninges.

Concomitant symptoms : headache (especially when the head is tilted forward), photophobia, drowsiness, runny nose, cough, fever.

Is it worth worrying : the appearance of nausea and vomiting, especially against the background of colds, is a dangerous symptom that is a reason for calling an ambulance and immediate hospitalization.

Violation of cerebral circulation – another alarming reason why you can start to stir up trouble.

Concomitant symptoms : if many people know the symptoms of a stroke, then the signs of short-term cerebrovascular accident are usually ignored. These first “bells” that in the future may lead to a vascular catastrophe (heart attack or stroke) include: transient loss of vision, speech, weakness in the arm and / or leg (usually on one side of the body), sudden amnesia, in which a person for some time loses orientation in space and forgets where he is and what he is doing.

Is it worth worrying : if we are talking about a stroke, you cannot waste a minute – you need to urgently call an ambulance. Short-term disorders of cerebral circulation cannot be ignored. Such a patient should immediately consult a doctor (preferably a neurologist). And undergo a serious examination, which includes ultrasound examination of large vessels (primarily the carotid arteries), ECG, EchoCG, detailed blood tests with determination of a lipid profile, a tendency to thrombosis, as well as the content of homocysteine, an amino acid that leads to early atherosclerosis and formation blood clots and increases the likelihood of stroke and heart attack by 5-8 times.

Hypertensive crisis , caused by an excessive increase in blood pressure, is often accompanied by nausea and even vomiting.

Concomitant symptoms : severe headache, visual impairment (up to partial loss of visual fields), shortness of breath, sometimes constricting pain behind the sternum.

Is it worth worrying : a hypertensive crisis, fraught with serious, life-threatening changes in the brain, heart, kidneys, is the reason for calling an ambulance.

Nausea is also accompanied by: trauma and brain tumors, migraines, autonomic, neurotic and mental disorders.

Vestibular syndrome . We are talking about dizziness, which can be caused by various diseases of the inner ear (Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis, neuroma), vascular diseases (hypertension, atherosclerosis) and which are often accompanied by nausea.

Concomitant symptoms : hearing loss, instability, unsteadiness, double vision, narrowing of the visual fields.

Is it worth worrying : Finding the true cause of dizziness is sometimes difficult. But this must be done. After all, completely different conditions can be hidden behind the patient’s complaints. You need to contact a neurologist, otoneurologist and undergo a special examination.

90,000 The first signs of stroke in women and men – Prevention of diseases and healthy lifestyle – Budgetary institution of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra

Before the onset of a stroke, symptoms of impaired blood supply to the brain are almost always observed.A transient cerebrovascular accident or a transient ischemic attack can be a harbinger of a stroke.

In women and men, this can be manifested by such signs as headaches, dizziness, weakness. In the future, nausea and vomiting may occur.

First signs of stroke in women :

– suddenly lost vision;

– a clear lack of coordination;

– withdrawal of strength from the hands, feet;

– loss of understanding of words or the ability to speak clearly;

– decrease in sensitivity;

– a smooth increase in the above signs.

Female stroke, the signs of which are sometimes unconventional at the onset of the disease, often complicate the early diagnosis of the disease, which significantly delays the provision of adequate medical care.

Signs of male stroke :

– severe headache, may be accompanied by vomiting;

– sudden weakness and dizziness;

– difficulty in pronunciation of speech and perception of the environment;

– blurred vision;

– clouding of consciousness.

If a specific part of the brain is affected by the pathology, then there will be malfunctions in the work of that part of the body for which the affected area was responsible.

WARNING!

If the following specific symptoms of a stroke appear, an ambulance must be called urgently. Also remember when these symptoms started, as their duration can make a difference in the choice of treatment:

  1. Ask the person to smile. With a stroke, the smile will be crooked.
  2. Ask to keep your arms raised up, if the muscles are weak, this will not be possible.
  3. Ask the affected person to say a simple sentence. During an attack, a man or woman will speak slowly, stumblingly. It is like a drunken person speaking.
  4. Ask to stick out the tongue – the tip of the tongue deviates towards the focus in the brain.

Patients with acute cerebrovascular accident should be immediately hospitalized. In case of a stroke, the most expensive are the first minutes and hours of illness, since it is at this time that medical care can be most effective.

The actress stated that the violence lasted for two years

Russian actress Elena Proklova recently provoked one of the greatest scandals in the history of Russian culture. The artist said that at the age of 15 she was sexually abused by a famous artist who is no longer alive. Rumors immediately spread that it could be Oleg Tabakov.

After some time, Proklova gave a detailed interview and told in detail exactly how the harassment took place.

According to her, at that moment she idolized this artist and sincerely admired him, at some point she even began to justify his actions.

Often, according to Proklova, the harassment took place in the actor’s car when he gave her a lift from the set.According to her, after the end of filming, she was given transport to her home, but the director instead asked the actor to give a lift to her young colleague. At the same time, Proklova emphasized that she could not refuse to get into the torturer’s car in front of everyone.

“He stopped the car in a deserted place, forced me to undress … I felt sick, I sobbed, begged me to stop. But, it seems, he liked to look at my suffering, “- said the actress in an interview with the publication” 7 days “.

Proklova added that the actions that the artist performed on her could not be called rape, but rather lecherous actions.Nevertheless, their relationship continued for another two years.

At some point, the artist even turned up to Elena’s parents and asked them for the hand of a 16-year-old girl at that time, although he himself was married and raised a child.

According to Proklova, he persecuted her even after she got married, and left her life only with the birth of a child.

Earlier, Proklova said on the air of one of the federal TV channels that at the age of 15 she faced sexual harassment of a very famous artist at that time.

The actress did not specify his name, but stressed that he was already dead. After that, rumors appeared in the media that it was about Oleg Tabakov, who died three years ago.

Proklova’s revelations caused the effect of an exploding bomb. The artist was criticized by most of her colleagues, as well as by Tabakov’s widow.

90,000 Dark spots under the eyes – causes and remedies

Causes of dark spots under the eyes

The skin under the lower eyelid is very delicate and thin, thinner than, for example, on the arms, cheek or other part of the body. Moreover, there are a lot of small capillaries in it. Violation of the permeability of the walls of the capillaries leads to bruising. The thinner the skin, the more visible they are. That is why the problem of bags under the eyes is more relevant for women.

Bruises under the eyes appear for a number of reasons

Heavy eye strain

If you sit at your computer for a long time, work with papers all day, work in a room with poor lighting or in other unfavorable conditions, bruises under your eyes will not keep you waiting long. After all, this behavior affects not only the eyes themselves (be prepared for photophobia, dry eye syndrome, lacrimation, etc.), but also can provoke stagnation of blood in the capillaries in the lower eyelid. As a result, they cannot withstand and burst, and the skin takes on a dark shade.

    Lack of sleep

Not only a specific job can strain your eyes, but also a lack of sleep. Even if you avoid eye strain during the day, but do not allow them to fully “recover” at night, the effect will be the same as with overload: capillaries will burst, dark circles will appear.Typically, this symptom appears after several sleepless nights, not just one. Although it all depends on the age of the person and the characteristics of his body.

      Lack of oxygen

A rare stay in the fresh air leads to oxygen starvation, which affects all body systems.

        Bad habits

This can be both poor nutrition (consumption of fatty, spicy foods, etc.), and frequent use of alcohol and, of course, smoking. When poison enters the body, the blood circulation is disrupted: the capillaries first narrow, and then quickly and sharply expand back. Due to this overvoltage, they eventually burst. Violation of the integrity of the walls and becomes the cause of the appearance of “bags”.

          Age changes

With age, the quality of the skin changes, the subcutaneous fat becomes thinner and ceases to “hide” the capillaries. The result is dark circles under the eyes.

            Substandard or unsuitable cosmetics

Any cosmetics should be selected individually, taking into account skin type, age and other characteristics. If you ignore these factors, then quite soon such an unpleasant symptom as bags under the eyes may appear. Also, you should not press hard on the skin when applying the cream – because of this, blood vessels may burst, and if you do not remove the makeup before going to bed, it will clog the pores and the intercellular fluid will not evaporate – as a result, “bags” will also appear.

              Ultraviolet

The sun’s rays, lamps in the solarium also negatively affect the condition of the subcutaneous fat. Sunscreens must be used.

                Taking certain medications

Carefully study the side effects of the drugs you are taking – perhaps the bruises under the eyes are caused by them and you should replace the medication with another.

                  Wearing the wrong glasses

If the glasses are incorrectly selected, discomfort appears in the eyes, this leads to tension in the eye muscles and, as a result, dark circles appear. In this case, you should consult a competent doctor and correct the prescription for glasses in time.

                    Wearing improperly fitted contact lenses

With the sensation of a speck or in the presence of another similar symptom, patients begin to rub their eyes frequently and can injure the delicate capillaries of the lower eyelids. In this case, you need to make an appointment with an optometrist, who will select suitable contact lenses after the examination.

What diseases cause bruises under the eyes

Dark circles under the eyes do not always indicate a wrong lifestyle. In some cases, this is a symptom of a disease of the body, functional disorders, pathological changes.

                    The reasons may be

Diseases of the liver and kidneys

You can talk about these diseases if you notice at least one additional symptom: icteric skin tone, urinary disorders, heartburn, heaviness in the abdomen, nausea and vomiting.

                      Metabolic disorders, vitamin deficiency

In these cases, the permeability of the walls of blood vessels and capillaries is disturbed, and the result is circles under the eyes. Not only dark circles speak about the disease, but also fatigue, apathy, drowsiness.

                        Cardiovascular diseases

As a result of disorders in the cardiovascular system, circles and blue under the eyes are possible. Additional symptoms are shortness of breath, heart pain, dizziness, heart rhythm disturbances.

                          Chronic fatigue

It is usually accompanied by the following symptoms: mood swings, poor appetite, frequent colds, exacerbation of chronic diseases, decreased performance, headaches, unstable sleep.

Endocrine disorders, changes in hormonal status

They are expressed in dizziness, increased heart rate, nervousness, sleep disturbance, excessive sweating

                              Dermatological problems

The problem may be associated with insufficient hydration of the facial skin. Concomitant symptoms: peeling of the skin, pallor, swelling of the lower eyelids.

Only a doctor after an individual consultation can determine and select the correct treatment.

How to find out the cause of bruises under the eyes

There are several ways to determine the cause of bruising under the eyes:

                              See what symptoms accompany them

The relationship between bruising and disease is described above.

Pay attention to the frequency and moment of symptom onset

Perhaps bruises under the lower eyelid appear after a sleepless night, after eating certain foods, after using certain cosmetics, or they accompany you constantly. In the first case, we are talking about factors that can be eliminated on their own, in the second one cannot do without consulting a doctor and his recommendations for treatment.

                                  Evaluate the appearance of bruises

The blue color of bruises indicates dilated vessels and fragile capillaries, they are red-brown when it comes to skin problems, with dehydration, the skin becomes saggy and flabby.

                                    Visit a doctor

If you are sure that the bruises under the eyes are not the result of overwork or the influence of other external factors, then you should make an appointment with an ophthalmologist. At the consultation, he will assess your condition, select the necessary examinations and give recommendations. If the doctor determines that the appearance of dark circles under the lower eyelid is not associated with visual impairment, he will refer you to another specialist, for example, an endocrinologist if there is a problem with the pancreas, a neurologist or therapist, if dark circles appear due to chronic fatigue, and etc. Of course, any doctor is primarily interested in concomitant symptoms, but it is rarely possible to do without examination. Most often used: general blood test and blood test for hormone levels, general urinalysis, ultrasound, MRI, ECG. Depending on the clinical picture, these types of diagnostics can be supplemented by other specialized studies.

Ways to get rid of bruises under the eyes

Treatment of bruises under the eyes is individual and depends on the cause that caused them. It is imperative to eliminate an external irritant if the circles are caused by some kind of external influence, for example, alcohol intake.

Special cosmetics, nourishing masks, herbal compresses help to cope with an aesthetic defect: but keep in mind that they only work to eliminate the symptom, and consultations and competent recommendations of a specialist will help to overcome its cause. But if an important meeting awaits you and you need to look good, feel free to use a good cream, concealer, foundation, etc.

How to keep your eyes looking healthy?

Beauty and eye health are the result of a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, first of all, it is worth normalizing the mode of work and rest, starting to eat right, avoiding stress, not smoking, not drinking alcohol. All these recommendations are quite simple, but very effective. At the same time, they help to avoid not only circles under the eyes, but also the formation of various pathological processes.

90,000 🧬 Why does the right side hurt

This unpleasant symptom can manifest itself in different ways: the pain on the right side in the side is sharp, pulling, appearing with active movement or at rest. Why does this happen and how to understand when it is time to see a doctor? We will tell you together with the GMS Clinic surgeon Bulat Yunusov.

Why can the right side hurt?

The causes of this symptom are usually related to internal organs. “This is a sign that something located on the right side of the abdomen is suffering,” says Bulat Yunusov, surgeon at GMS Clinics and Hospitals. “The cause of damage to these organs can also be different, for example, inflammation, oncological processes, trauma, the consequences of previous operations, neurological disorders.”

However, this symptom may have other reasons. “The unpleasant sensation in the right side can be muscular in nature, especially if it occurs after physical exertion. If the person falls on their right side, the pain may be associated with muscle contusion or injury, such as myositis. Gallstones can also cause unpleasant tingling sensations in the side. The stones close the ducts, which leads to a swelling of the bladder and, as a result, to the occurrence of calculous cholecystitis, that is, an inflammatory process. All this, of course, is accompanied by pain, ”commented an invited specialist from another medical center. Let’s consider the main causes of pain in the right side.

Inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract

Pain and cramps in the right side can be caused by a whole bunch of inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract. “These are, for example, appendicitis, diverticulitis, colitis, gastroenteritis, stomach and duodenal ulcers,” says Bulat Yunusov.

Most often, with these diagnoses, pain is felt as aching, moderate, with a gradually increasing intensity. With appendicitis, pain may increase when walking, coughing, changing body position, and decrease at rest. Also, with this diagnosis, there is an increase in temperature, nausea, and vomiting.

With a stomach ulcer, the pain becomes more noticeable after eating fatty, spicy or fried foods, alcohol, as well as intense physical exertion.Additional symptoms may include heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.

With colitis (inflammation of the intestines), the pain can be pulling or paroxysmal. The disease is also accompanied by diarrhea, fever, general weakness, headaches, the presence of mucus in the feces.

With diverticulitis (protrusion of the intestinal walls), acute pain is felt to the right of the navel, the temperature rises, and diarrhea appears (with blood and mucus).

With gastroenteritis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and small intestine), pain in the right side is accompanied by a lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, etc.

With pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), the pain begins suddenly and is constant and intense. Sometimes it can “give” to the left side or intensify after eating heavy, fatty or spicy foods.

                                    Diseases of the urinary system

Often the side hurts on the right side due to the organs of the excretory system. “These include urolithiasis and pyelonephritis,” says Bulat Yunusov.

Pyelonephritis is an inflammatory kidney disease, in which, in addition to pain in the right side, weakness, nausea, vomiting, “jumping” pulse, dry mouth, high temperature can also occur.

Pain in the side with urolithiasis can be constant or wavy, dull or acute, it can only bother at rest or intensify when walking. It depends on the location of the stone, but sometimes pain can first be felt in the lumbar region (the so-called “renal colic”), and only then “settle” in the right side.

                                    Liver diseases

“Pain in the right side can occur with damage to the liver and organs of the hepatobiliary system,” says Bulat Yunusov. “Such diseases include cholecystitis, obstructive jaundice, liver cysts, hepatitis, cirrhosis.” All these diagnoses are characterized by a rather sharp pain in the right side, which can “radiate” to the right shoulder, neck or shoulder blade.

Often, on the right side at the bottom it hurts in women due to malfunctions of the pelvic organs.“Such disorders in work include inflammatory diseases (salpingitis, salpingo-oophoritis) and non-inflammatory (corpus luteum cyst, ovarian tumors, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy),” notes Bulat Yunusov.

With salpingitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes) and salpingo-oophoritis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes and ovaries), the pain is most often felt as pulling in the groin area, but it can also “give” to the right or left side. It is accompanied by fever, nausea, severe headache, vaginal discharge and intensifies during sexual intercourse.

With cysts of the ovaries or corpus luteum, pulling or stabbing pain is mainly localized in the lower abdomen or lower back, but can also be felt in the right side.

With endometriosis, pain is most often acute, cramping, and may disappear and return. It is felt, as a rule, in the lower abdomen, in the left or right side (closer to the lower back).

                                    Reaction to exercise

Sometimes the right side hurts not at all due to malfunctions in the work of internal organs (which we discussed above). If you felt pain on the right during (or immediately after) physical activity, chances are that it is:

                                    • Muscle spasm due to weakness in the muscles of the back or peritoneum.
                                    • Spasm of the diaphragm. It is most often encountered while running: rapid breathing causes the diaphragm to contract faster, which can cause it to spasm and “give off” pain in the right side.
                                    • Enhanced liver function. This organ is considered the “blood” depot of the body.During exercise, the liver may slightly increase in volume and “press” on its outer capsule, where there are many nerve endings, which will feel like pain in the right side. And such discomfort can also arise due to an improper diet: for example, if before training you “went over” with carbohydrates or fats. In this case, during the lesson, the liver will be forced to work with increased stress, which can also provoke pain syndrome.

How to determine why your right side hurts

Of course, you will not be able to make an accurate diagnosis on your own. However, you can get some idea of it, starting from how exactly your right side hurts. “In acute diseases, pain occurs suddenly, increasing in intensity in a short period of time (hours, sometimes days),” says Bulat Yunusov. “If the reason is some kind of chronic disease, then the pain syndrome is either permanent or wavy in nature, not differing in great intensity.”

It is also important to check for additional symptoms.“To correctly determine the cause of pain in the right side, it is necessary to listen to the nature of this pain. For example, muscle pain is usually dull and aching, – commented the invited specialist. – However, muscle pain can be acute, because in addition to muscles in the right side there are intervertebral joints, which can be a source of discomfort. With gallstone disease or acute cholecystitis, an increased temperature joins the pain. This situation can be called “pain-plus” – pain and temperature. The discomfort caused by renal colic can also be “pain-plus”, but already pain plus frequent urination or the presence of blood in the urine. Pain caused by bowel problems – pain plus diarrhea. ”

What to do if your right side hurts

As you can see, side pain can be a symptom of a wide variety of health problems. Therefore, you should not ignore it – be sure to see a doctor. “It is not always possible to determine the severity of the disease that caused the situation by the nature of the pain syndrome. This applies, first of all, to the elderly and patients with diabetes mellitus – serious diseases of the abdominal cavity can be erased (pain syndrome may not be expressed at all or disappear completely), says Bulat Yunusov. – Thus, if abdominal pain does not go away within a few hours and is accompanied by an increase in body temperature, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stool disorders (constipation or diarrhea), discomfort during urination, a decrease in blood pressure, then the only correct solution is an in-person consultation doctor “.

Can you take medicine if you have severe pain in your right side? Yes, but with caution. “You should not resort to taking analgesics on your own, as this can“ blur ”the clinical picture of the disease, which will lead to an untimely formulation of the correct diagnosis,” says Bulat Yunusov. “The only thing is that it is possible to take antispasmodics (for example, no-shpy): these drugs relieve spasm of the muscles of internal organs and are aimed at eliminating the cause of the pain syndrome, in inflammatory diseases, they usually do not give an analgesic effect.”

In general, doctors have a negative attitude towards self-medication. “At home, it’s impossible to guarantee pain relief without harming the body as a whole. You can dull the feeling of discomfort, thereby relieving your torment only for a while. In addition, by self-medication, completely unintentionally, you can cripple some other organ, which initially had nothing to do with pain in the right side. Home treatment is not a safe remedy. ”

The best way out is to make an appointment with a general practitioner and discuss your condition with him. Sometimes the problem can be solved “remotely”. “To understand the conditions that are accompanied by a wave-like course with dull pain for a long time, possibly with a remote consultation,” sums up Bulat Yunusov.
