Are Bananas Alkaline or Acidic?

What pH are Bananas? Can Bananas Cause Acid Reflux? Are bananas alkaline or acidic? Does the ripeness of the fruit affect that? Let’s check it out.

Wonderfully created with creamy and firm flesh, a banana is one of the few fruits that come already naturally prepackaged in yellow jackets. Now, bananas come in various forms and shapes.

There are over 500 banana varieties, the most common one being the sweet and seedless Cavendish banana. It accounts for over 90 percent of all the bananas sold worldwide, making it a ‘hot cake.’

However, because it is seedless, it means it cannot reproduce (it is sterile) through the normal process.

Bananas can be grown and harvested throughout the year and are usually ready for consumption 9 to 12 months after planting.

They have several essential nutrients, including protein, dietary fiber, energy, Zn, Fe, vitamin A, manganese, folate, Vitamin C, and Ca, which is more than any other fruit or cereal.

They are also sodium-free, fat-free, and cholesterol-free. That said, have you ever wondered what else is in a banana other than the nutrients?

What pH are Bananas?

The alkalinity of acidity of something is usually measured on a pH scale ranging from 1 to 14 and is referred to as the pH value.

Any value between 1 and 6 is acidic, while any value from 8 to 14 shows alkalinity. Similarly, a value of 7 indicates the item is neutral, which means it is neither basic nor acidic.

Any food with a pH of 7 and below shows high levels of acidity and foods with more than 8 imply alkalinity, which helps neutralize/counter acidity in the stomach.

So are bananas basic or acidic? Read on to find out:

The Nitty-Gritty

Whether a banana is alkaline or acidic depends solemnly on the ripeness of the fruit.

Most ripe fruits have a pH that is slightly alkaline or less acidic. The same applies to bananas.

Ripe bananas are alkaline (have a pH of around 5.5), while unripe ones are acidic (have a pH of about 6.6, which is less acidic).

Unripe bananas have around 4.4 Millie equivalents of organic acid per 100 grams. The primary one is oxalic acid, followed by malic, tartaric, and citric acid. Citric acid forms 10 percent of the acidity, oxalic 50 percent, and malic 35 percent.

Now, as the banana continues to grow or ripen, the citric and malic acids increase by about 60 percent, while oxalic drops to about 50 percent of the initial amount.

As such, you will find that in a ripe version of the fruit, malic accounts for about 60 percent of the acidity, citric 20 percent, and oxalic 10 percent.

“It is because of this that the fruit is considered alkaline in nature,” says Patrick Takahashi, MD, a gastroenterologist at Adventist Health White Memorial.

What Is Acid Reflux?

The flow of acid from your stomach up to the esophagus is what is commonly referred to as acid reflux. This usually takes place when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) becomes damaged or weakened.

Typically, the LES closes when food passes via it to the stomach, which prevents the food from moving back into the esophagus. If it doesn’t close properly, however, the acid in your stomach can flow backward, irritating your esophagus lining.

Can Bananas Cause Acid Reflux?

Because they are one of the many great low-acid foods, bananas act as anti-acids to help counter the acid in the body when ripe.

They also produce mucus that coats the stomach’s lining to prevent damage and corrosion. Besides, they are rich in calcium, manganese, magnesium, and potassium.

The potassium has an alkalizing feature that not only helps reduce stomach acidity considerably but also helps with the absorption and digestion of food. Similarly, eating the fruit bolsters the sphincter by enhancing its working capabilities.

So, having a banana either before or after meals can go a long way in countering acid reflux. You can integrate the fruit to your daily diet in the form of a topping to cereals, salads, or even smoothies.

But what about unripe bananas? Unfortunately, they do the opposite! They can trigger acid reflux. They contain potassium nitrate, which is a major cause of acid reflux and indigestible carbohydrate, which causes gut fermentation.

So what do these mean for your health?

· High Fiber Content

Besides being an alkaline food, bananas are awash with both insoluble and soluble fiber. Soluble fiber slows down digestion, which causes you to feel full for longer. It is the main reason bananas are highly recommended for breakfast meals by dieticians.

· Heart Health

Alkaline foods with high fiber are also great for heart health. According to Webmd.com, increasing your consumption of the humble banana fruit can lower your risk for coronary heart disease as well as various cardiovascular diseases.

· Ease in Digestion

According to the Harvard School of Public Health, bananas have both sour and sweet taste. The sweetness brings about a feeling of heaviness while the sourness stimulates Agni, digestive juices that support digestion and enhance metabolism.

· Nutrients

Banana is a powerhouse of nutrients. It is awash with critical minerals and vitamins such as magnesium, folate, calcium, folate, and manganese, which all play essential roles in keeping you healthy as well as to proper functioning of the body.

· Blood Pressure

Salt is the main culprit when it comes to conditions such as high blood pressure. Bananas have high potassium content with low salt content, which makes it excellent for people with this condition. Just ensure you consult your doctor or nutritionist before incorporating it into your diet.

Note

· If you are buying in dozens, ensure you go for firm ones so that they can serve you for at least four days before spoiling.

· They usually ripe very quickly, which is why the peels turn black, and the flesh turns gooey after a while. The best idea is to purchase them in small quantities so that you enjoy them fresh.

· Go for those without squishy spots or blemishes

Summary

Yes, it’s true, alkaline foods like bananas may help you shed off some pounds, but these may catapult, the risk of other conditions such as muscles and weak bones if not done in the right way.

So if you want to try alkaline foods regularly, ensure you also take enough protein. Also, note that bananas will not help change your blood pH but will help you improve your overall health.

8 Alkaline Foods You Should Include In Your Daily Diet

If you have paid close attention to your chemistry lessons during school, you will be familiar with the concept of acid and alkali. If not, then here’s a quick brush up: Acids are basically aqueous solutions that have a pH level of less than 7.0 whereas alkalis have a pH level of more than 7.0, water being the neutral component with a pH of 7.0. In simpler terms, acids are sour in taste and corrosive in nature, whereas alkalis are elements that neutralise acids.During the process of digestion, our stomach secretes gastric acids, which help in breaking down food. The stomach has a pH balance which ranges from 2.0 to 3.5, which is highly acidic but necessary for the process of digestion. However, sometimes, due to unhealthy lifestyle and food habits, the acidic level in the body goes haywire, leading to acidity, acid refluxes and other gastric ailments. If you review the daily diet of most urban dwellers, it contains large amounts of acidic foods such as burger, samosa, pizza, rolls, cheese sandwiches, sausages, bacon, kebabs, colas, doughnuts, pastries, etc – which in the long run can hamper the acidic balance in the stomach. These foods when broken down leaves behind residues that are referred to as acid ash, the main cause of your tummy troubles.

Ingredients that are acidic in nature when digested by the body are meats, dairy products, eggs, certain whole grains, refined sugars and processed food items. It is important to note that an ingredient’s acid or alkaline forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. Citrus fruits are acidic in nature, but citric acid actually has an alkalising effect in our body.

Alkaline foods are important so as to bring about a balance. Like all experts and doctors have been saying for years, we should have a balanced meal with a good mix of everything, rather than restraining ourselves to have only a certain category of food items. Alkaline foods therefore help in countering the risks of acidity and acid refluxes, bringing some sort of relief. Most traditional Indian meals contain alkaline food items to create a balanced diet. If you have ever tried a typical Assamese lunch, it always starts with a dish called Khar. Khar also refers to the main ingredient in the dish, which is an alkali extracted from the peels of a banana varietal known as Bhim Kol. The peels are dry roasted and preserved, and before preparing the dish, are soaked in warm water to obtain a brownish filtrate which is then used in cooking. The dish can be made with different ingredients, but the one made with raw papaya is most cherished, known as Amitar Khar. If raw papaya isn’t available then cabbage or squash is used as well. Sometimes, a fried fish head is scrambled into the dish during the later stages of the cooking process. Khar is believed to be good for the stomach, easing digestion.

7. Nuts

Love to munch on nuts when hunger pangs kick in? Besides being sources of good fats, they also produce an alkaline effect in the body. However, since they are high in calories, it is important to have limited quantities of nuts. Include cashews, chestnuts and almonds in your daily meal plan.

Nuts are loaded with essential nutrients that can help maintain a healthy body and mind

8. Onion, Garlic and Ginger

Among the most important ingredients in Indian cooking, onion, garlic and ginger are great flavour enhancers too. You can use them in numerous other ways – garlic to spruce up your morning toast, grated ginger in your soup or tea, freshly sliced onions in salads, etc.

Onions are important part of Indian cooking style

Now that you have this list of alkaline food sources, try and include them in your diet to make the most of their incredible benefits. Make sure you do not make any major alterations to your diet without expert advice. If anything, for any reason is not suiting you, maybe you should skip it.

pH of Banana — Acidic or Alkaline?

Botanically belonging to the berry family, Bananas are found across the globe, varying in shape, size, color, etc. Hundreds of banana varieties exist in the world, with the conventional sweet and seedless Cavendish banana being the most popular one. It is important to know the composition and chemical nature of edible fruits so that the consequences of consumption can be determined better.

So, what is the pH of Banana? The pH of bananas usually lies between 4.4-5.2 for unripe bananas, making them acidic in nature. Ripe bananas however have a pH of about 6.5-6.6, which is much less acidic.

Cavendish bananas have been globally cultivated in large numbers.

They are capable of achieving high yields per hectare (due to the short stems and robustness to environmental damage) and account for about 45-50% of the total global banana production.

Being a very popular and widely consumed edible product, a lot of questions arise, from time to time, around factors such as – the nutritional value, alkalinity or acidity, ripeness, etc. about bananas.

What is pH and pH scale?

According to chemistry, pH is the potential of Hydrogen or the power of Hydrogen. It is a scale used to specify the basicity or acidity associated with a substance.

For determining the pH, the material has to be in a somewhat aqueous form. This is because pH is an indication of the concentration of H+ ions in the substance and those ions are present only in an aqueous solution

pH = – log [h4O+]

The pH scale is a logarithmic scale that inversely implies the concentration of hydrogen (H+) ions, i.e. as the negative (or reciprocal) of the base ten logarithmic activity of the ions.

The value of pH thus obtained, abets the nature of the concerned element. A pH of 7 indicates that the tested solution is neutral.

If the pH falls in the bracket of 0-7, then the solution is termed as an acidic solution, and if it lies between 7-14, the solution is a basic solution by nature.

The Role of Indicators

Indicators are chemical substances that aid the pH determination process by showing color changes with respect to the nature of the solution.

This means that the indicators help in analyzing the pH by merely changing the color of the solution.

Each indicator, by virtue of its own properties, has an acidic color, an alkaline color, and a definite pH at which it changes the color.

For example, Phenolphthalein is an indicator that is practically colorless in acidic solutions and changes color from dark pink to red for strongly alkaline solutions, with pH values starting from 9.

The Universal indicator gives different colors at varying pH values.

It ranges from Red (for strongly acidic solutions with pH of 0-1) to Purple (indicating strong alkaline solutions with pH 12-14), as shown in the figure.

Determining the pH of Bananas

Cavendish bananas have been globally cultivated in large numbers.

They are capable of achieving high yields per hectare (due to the short stems and robustness to environmental damage) and account for about 45-50% of the total global banana production.

Being a very popular and widely consumed edible product, a lot of questions arise, from time to time, around factors such as – the nutritional value, alkalinity or acidity, ripeness, etc. about bananas.

Excessively acidic fruits can be harmful to health. Determining the pH value of a banana can help establish the corollaries of its consumption.

The most basic and simple method that can be followed for measuring the pH of banana (or for that matter, any fruit) is as follows:

  • Wash the banana with water and dry it with a clean paper or cloth towel.
  • Chop it into two pieces and put them in a plate.
  • Graze a small piece of the pH paper (about 1-1.5 inch) and firmly press it on one half, along the cut surface of the banana.

The paper strip will acquire color, which can be compared to the standard scale.

The color indication can help confirm the pH of the banana. The same process can be repeated for any number of fruits with a different piece of the pH paper.

Are Bananas Acidic or Basic in Nature?

Whether a banana is acidic or basic depends downright on the ripeness of the fruit. In general, fruits tend to shift towards a more alkaline value of pH as they ripen. The same is the case with bananas.

While unripe, bananas have a pH ranging between 4.5-5.2, which is a pretty acidic value. The exact pH value of banana depends on the type of cultivation.

Conversely, ripe bananas have an improved pH value in comparison to unripe ones.

The completely ripe bananas have a pH of approximately 6.5-6.6, which makes them a lot less acidic.

The main acidic constituents of bananas are malic acid, oxalic acid, and citric acid. In chemically treated bananas, these acids are significantly low as compared to naturally ripened bananas.

As the bananas gradually season, the fraction of citric acid and malic acid increases, and that of oxalic acid decreases.

Malic and citric acids are a lot weaker than oxalic acid and therefore the acidity of the fruit decreases with its growth.

In a fully grown ripe banana, the proportion of malic acid is about 50-60 percent, citric acid is about 20-25 percent and oxalic acid is about 10-15 percent.

Due to its pH value being closer to the neutral value of 7, bananas are broadly classified as alkaline fruits and not acidic fruits.

Bananas and Acid Reflux

What is Acid Reflux and How does it occur?

Acid reflux is a chronic digestive disorder that occurs when the acid or bile from the stomach flows upwards to the food pipe. This leads to irritation in the esophagus lining and can occur frequently.

Acid reflux is usually caused when the LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) gets damaged i.e. the valve loses its ability to prevent the contents of the stomach from entering the food pipe.

As a consequence, the separation between the stomach and the food pipe is weakened and the bile paves way upwards, causing inflammation like sensation in the chest.

Does Consumption of Bananas cause Acid reflux?

The answer to the above question is No, bananas do not cause acid reflux. Instead, they help in countering the uneasiness caused by the disorder.

Bananas aid the formation of a protective mucous layer in the stomach, thereby helping in diminishing the magnitude of heartburn and irritation caused by excessive acids.

This fruit is also rich in minerals such as magnesium, manganese, potassium, and calcium.

From the seedless fruit to its peel, it is completely edible and can be consumed in a number of interesting ways – even as a topping to cereals or in the form of a smoothie or a shake.

The high potassium content (about 350mg Potassium in 100g of Banana) in the full-grown ripe bananas enriches the alkalinity of the fruit and deteriorates the stomach and esophagus acidity considerably.

It even amends the working capabilities of the Sphincter.

So, gorging on the low-acid ripe bananas (in adequate amounts), during the day can help ease the irritations in the abdomen, chest, and neck, balance the stomach acids, and counter acid reflux.

On the contrary, unripe bananas tend to have a more acidic pH value for themselves and are hence capable of triggering acid reflux.

Their potassium content is lower and potassium nitrate dominates the composition. Being a stodgy (indigestible) carbohydrate, potassium nitrates catalyze gut fermentation, thereby amplifying the acid reflux and hence, inflammation.

How bananas help in upholding health?

Fibre Content: Bananas are encumbered with rich soluble as well as insoluble fibers. These fibers break down slowly in the digestive system and keep the stomach occupied for a longer time.

Such fiber-rich fruits reduce the unnecessary intake of food and are good for consumption during breakfast or as snacks.

Counter Acid Reflux: Acid reflux is the flow of acid from the stomach upwards to the food pipe when the LES gets damaged. Bananas also help in forming a protective mucous layer in the stomach.

Being more inclined towards alkaline properties and containing potassium, calcium, and magnesium, ripe bananas help in countering this acid reflux, while unripe do the exact opposite (as they contain potassium nitrate).

Easy Assimilation: Bananas have both sweet and sour constituents. The sugariness ensures a feeling of heaviness.

Owing to the sour nature of the fruit, digestive juices are secreted which boost metabolism and improve digestion.

Due to this property, it is also used as an effective home remedy for digestion related problems.

Nutritional Value: They contain an assortment of nutrients such as carbohydrates, vitamins (especially A and C), calcium, protein, and minerals like potassium, iron, etc.

They are fat-free, cholesterol-free, and sodium-free and are thus suitable for consumption during pregnancy or for people concerned with blood pressure.

Completely Edible: The banana peels are not at all poisonous and can be served in cooked, fried, boiled, or crushed (in a blender) form.

The peel is rich in Vitamin B6 and B12, potassium, magnesium, and some fiber, and taste better for ripe bananas.

Improvise Vision: The alkaline fruit banana has a fair amount of Vitamin A, which helps in balancing the normal vision, enhances the eyesight at night, and keeps the eyes healthy.

It helps in the prevention of macular degeneration.

Assist Replenishment of Energy: For people who exercise (especially those attending the gym), bananas are recommended, as they top off the energy consumed and also help achieve electrolyte balance in the human system.

Being a natural energizer, they do not pose side-effects and remove oxidative stress.

Conclusion

Bananas tend to be alkaline in nature, with a pH value of approximately 6.5 (when ripe). They are rich in calcium and minerals and suitable for consumption in almost all situations. Gorging on the low-acid ripe bananas (in adequate amounts), during the day can also help ease the irritations in the abdomen, chest, and neck, balance the stomach acids, and counter acid reflux.

What Is The Alkaline Diet And Should You Try It?

What You Need To Know About Your Alkaline Diet:

  • An alkaline-promoting diet reduces the acidity in your body and can help guard against certain chronic diseases.
  • Eating foods that are very acidic can lead to real health issues.
  • Alkaline foods to eat include raw veggies like broccoli and cauliflower, raw fruits like lemon and watermelon, and oils like avocado and olive.

By Isadora Baum

It’s true what they say: Your gut really is like a second brain. So, when it’s off balance, it can seriously affect your mood, digestion, and energy. The good news is that it’s pretty easy to keep your gut in tip-top shape. A first step? Try the regime Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Elle Macpherson swear by—an alkaline diet.

By eating alkaline-promoting foods to effectively battle the acid we consume in things like caffeine, alcohol and some processed foods, it will help balance pH levels in your blood and urine, says Dr. Josh Axe , DNM, DC, CNS. Our body needs to be at a slightly alkaline state to perform optimally, so eating an alkaline-promoting diet can, for some, make a significant difference.

According to a 2012 review published in the Journal of Environmental Health, eating this way not only helps gut health but an array of other chronic diseases. It can lower the risk of mortality and incidence of diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, and osteoporosis. It can also help improve muscle mass, decrease your risk of hypertension and stroke, reduce inflammation and chronic pain, improve vitamin absorption and immunity, and aid in weight management.

“Our lungs and kidneys have a tightly controlled mechanism to regulate the pH of our blood. Diet can, however, affect the pH of your urine,” says Robert Glatter, MD. “The metabolism of foods leaves a so-called residue or ash, and those who follow the diet believe that this ash can have an effect on the acidity of your body.”

ACIDIC FOODS TO AVOID

So which foods should you avoid and which should you load up on? You’ll want to stay away from eating a  lot of dairy, including cheeses such as parmesan, American, mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Meat and cured meats like bacon are also good to eat less of as is poultry, and canned sardines and tuna. Go slow on eggs, refined grains, alcohol, soda, caffeine, and artificial sweeteners.

Confused as to what you should have? A diet rich in raw fruits and veggies:

 ALKALINE-PROMOTING VEGETABLES

Mushrooms, spinach, alfalfa, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, and Brussels sprouts are great to eat for those on an alkaline diet, says Axe. And opt for organic when possible, which is produced in a more mineral-dense soil, so it’ll offer greater benefits.

Axe explains that cooking can reduce the alkalizing effect, so eating fresh produce in their natural, raw states can help maximize absorption. Or, you can also try lightly juicing or steaming, as this process isn’t as harsh as frying, sautéing, or another type of high-heat cooking technique.

CITRUS FRUITS

According to Structure House‘s registered dietitian Benjamin White, PhD, despite their acidic nature citrus fruits are actual an alkalizing agent on the body. “Citrus fruits like oranges have citric and ascorbic acids and taste sour, but they are actually alkaline-generating once they’ve been digested and absorbed.”

Tomatoes, lemons, limes and grapefruits are also alkaline rich. When drinking alcohol, or just starting your day, have water with lemon or lime for an alkaline, detoxifying drink. Another good option? Add a tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (and a teaspoon of raw honey) to a glass of water.

OTHER ALKALINE-RICH FOODS

Watermelon, bananas, dates, and figs also are foods to integrate as are tomatoes, avocados, cherries, apples and grapes. Oils such as olive, coconut, avocado, are beneficial as are quinoa and wild rice. If you are reducing acid-rich foods, it’s important to make sure you consume alkaline foods high in calcium (broccoli, almonds, white beans and leafy greens), essential fatty acids (flax-seeds, chia-seeds), and protein (tofu, beans, nuts).

At the end of the day, you have to eat what works for you.

“The actual reason it’s a healthy diet is based on the principles of fresh, natural and unprocessed foods,” says Glatter. Unfortunately, some foods that can be good for you are eliminated, as they’re just simply a bit more acidic. So, if you’re craving an omelet for breakfast, feel free to have it. Just balance them out with foods like spinach or kale, which are alkaline producing.

Foods That Can Help with Acid Reflux Symptoms

And heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux, which occurs when stomach acid flows back up into your esophagus — the tube that connects the throat and stomach. In some cases, acid reflux progresses to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or a more serious form of reflux. Common signs of GERD include frequent heartburn, coughing, wheezing, chest pain and regurgitation — particularly at night.

While over-the-counter and prescription medicines are available, lifestyle changes can sometimes help those with only occasional acid reflux. The Mayo Clinic advises losing excess weight, eating smaller meals, and avoiding alcohol and nicotine. But dietary tweaks also can be key when trying to alleviate symptoms.

Here are five foods to try.

1. Bananas. This low-acid fruit can help those with acid reflux by coating an irritated esophageal lining and thereby helping to combat discomfort. Due to their high-fiber content, bananas also can help strengthen your digestive system — which can help ward off indigestion. One soluble fiber found in bananas is pectin, which helps move stomach contents through your digestive tract. And that’s a good thing — because food that sticks around will only continue to generate acid.

2. Melons. Like bananas, melons also are a highly alkaline fruit. They are a good source of magnesium, which is found in many medicines for acid reflux. Furthermore, melons have a pH of 6.1, making them only mildly acidic. Especially good are cantaloupe and honeydew melon.

3. Oatmeal. Like other high-fiber foods, oatmeal may help stave off acid reflux symptoms. Fiber not only promotes intestinal health, but it also reduces constipation and makes you feel full a long while after eating it. And, of course, when you feel full, you are less likely to overeat and therefore less likely to regurgitate what’s in your stomach into your esophagus. Enjoy your oatmeal with low-fat or almond milk, as both are low in fat and highly alkaline.

4. Yogurt. Like bananas, yogurt has a soothing effect that helps keep stomach discomfort at bay. It also contains probiotics, a type of good bacteria found in the digestive tract that gives a boost to your immune system. Being a good protein source means yogurt also improves your ability to properly digest food. Make yogurt even more impactful by adding in a bit of ginger, which can act as an anti-inflammatory in your system.

5. Green Vegetables. If you like green vegetables and have acid reflux, you’re in luck. Asparagus, spinach, kale and brussels sprouts all are highly alkaline, meaning they’re good for your stomach and digestive system. Being naturally low in fat and sugar, vegetables also help lessen stomach acid.

In the end, make sure to speak with your doctor if you have questions about what kinds of foods should be part of your diet. Some foods may help alleviate symptoms in one person but aggravate them in another. Make sure to work with your doctor to come up with an individualized plan that’s right for you.

Thirteen Acidic Fruits To Avoid For Your Teeth Health

Most people love eating fruits: They’re sweet, juicy and the high vitamin C content – in fruits like oranges, strawberries and grapefruits – makes them particularly good choices for both your dental health and overall health. Some fruits, however, have high acid contents and can also be damaging to the enamel of your teeth. But you can still reap the health benefits of acidic fruits if you know which fruits pose the greatest risk and how to keep your teeth safe while eating them.

Which fruits are the most acidic?

The acid content of a food is measured according to its pH value. Foods with a pH above 7 are considered alkaline, per the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), whereas those that are below 7 are acidic. And the lower the pH, the higher the level of acidity. Here are the 13 most acidic fruits and their pH value as observed by the Clemson University:

  1. Lemon Juice (2.00 – 2.60)

  2. Limes (2.00 – 2.80)

  3. Blue Plums (2.80 – 3.40)

  4. Grapes (2.90 – 3.82)

  5. Pomegranates (2.93 – 3.20)

  6. Grapefruits (3.00 – 3.75)

  7. Blueberries (3.11 – 3.33)

  8. Pineapples (3. 20 – 4.00)

  9. Apples (3.30 – 4.00)

  10. Peaches (3.30 – 4.05)

  11. Apricots (3.30-4.80)

  12. Oranges (3.69 – 4.34)

  13. Tomatoes (4.30 – 4.90)

The good news? You don’t always have to eat these high-acidic fruits to get the vitamin C your body needs. Cantaloupe, for example, is one of the best natural sources of vitamin C, and with a higher pH (6.13 – 6.58) it’s much less acidic than many other fruits with similar vitamin content. Honeydew melons, watermelon and bananas are also good choices for this reason. Just be aware that fruits in the form of juices, wine, jams and jellies – or when tinned or frozen – are still acidic in nature.

What Is Dental Erosion?

As hard as tooth enamel is, the high acid content in many fruits and fruit juices can cause it to weaken and demineralise over time. These softened areas of enamel may then become discoloured, sensitive to extreme temperatures or even sweet foods, and eventually decay and need special types of repair. The calcium in saliva can help strengthen enamel, according to the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), but when the environment in your mouth is too acidic, remineralisation will not occur.

Preventing Enamel Erosion

You don’t have to give up fruit in order to prevent erosion. Here are a simple few tips to keep your teeth healthy while maintaining your vitamin C requirement:

  • Never suck on lemons, limes or any highly acidic fruit. Putting these fruits against your teeth for any period of time is a sure way to soften the enamel on your teeth.
  • Use a straw when drinking fruit juices. This keeps it from coming in direct contact with your teeth.
  • Rinse with water after eating fruit to dilute the acids in your mouth, and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing to give your enamel time to resettle.
  • Keep your enamel strong by brushing with fluoridated toothpaste.
  • Eat cheese after your fruit. This raises the pH levels in your mouth and increases saliva production, which also helps neutralise acids. The AGD also holds that certain compounds in cheese adhere to tooth enamel, protecting it from various acids in your food.

The Importance of Vitamin C

Vitamin C plays a major role in the growth, maintenance and repair of your body’s vital tissue. This includes your bones, cartilage and teeth. In fact, the United States National Library of Medicine suggests vitamin C keeps your body equipped to heal wounds and fight infections – gum disease included.

Your body cannot manufacture or store vitamin C by itself, though, so you need to get your daily requirement by eating foods that are rich with it. Vitamin C is found in all fruits and vegetables, but some of the best fruit sources are cantaloupe, citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits, as well as kiwis, mangos, pineapples, watermelon and several types of berries.

Health professionals will always recommend eating a balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables so that you get enough vitamin C, as long as you take precautions to keep the most acidic fruits from hurting your teeth. This way, you can have your fruit and eat it too.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FRUIT – Is it Good or Bad for your health? – Alkamind

Would you be surprised to know that some of the foods you think of as highly ACIDIC are actually ALKALINE-forming to your body?

When transitioning to an alkaline diet, it is so important to know which foods and beverages are alkaline and which are acidic so that you can make the right choices in regards to what you should (and shouldn’t) put into your body.

The problem is that most alkaline/acid food charts that you will find are WRONG!

So many charts out there have foods that are actually ACIDIC listed on the alkaline side – no better way to mess up all of your hard work!

Let me explain….

When determining whether a food/beverage is alkaline OR acidic, there are two important components you need to look at in that food…

  • the mineral content
  • the sugar content

Take vegetables for example. They are mostly alkaline because the majority of them are high in minerals and low in sugar.

Alkaline foods are high in minerals but LOW in sugar…

Why is the sugar component so important to consider?

Because SUGAR = ACID!

Just because a food is classified as “acidic” (i.e. Citric Acid Fruits), this doesn’t necessarily mean that is is acidic.

On the contrary, some of these citric acid fruits are alkaline-forming once consumed inside your body, and this is where all the confusion lies.

Here’s the deal…

I don’t want you to be focused on what the specific food or drink’s pH is OUTSIDE of your body. What is more important is the effect the food has on the body once CONSUMED.

When you look at your top 4 citric acid fruits – lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits, 3 of them are alkaline-forming, one of those are ACIDIC…which one do you think is ACIDIC (hint – think about how they taste)?

The ORANGES, but why?

All four citric acid fruits are acidic outside of the body. All four are high water content fruits, and all have high amounts of alkaline minerals.

BUT, the lemons, limes, and grapefruits are LOW in sugar (2%, 2%, 5% sugar respectively), and the oranges are HIGH in sugar (12% sugar).

THAT is the game-changer in regards to what the food does once consumed inside your body.

Let’s take a look at your top alkaline fruits:

  • Lemons
  • Limes
  • Grapefruit
  • Avocado
  • Tomatoes
  • Coconut (water, milk, butter, oil)
  • Pomegranate

Watermelon has a neutral pH.

All the rest are acidic, even fruits like bananas, oranges, and berries.

Again, this is because of one thing only… THEIR SUGAR CONTENT!

Let’s take a closer look at why that is the case and why most alkaline food charts are wrong.

The reason my Ultimate Alkaline / Acid Food Guide is different than other charts (and why most charts are wrong) is because they base their alkalinity or acid readings on something called the PRAL (Potential Renal Acid Load).

This is not an accurate method to determine if a food/beverage is alkaline or acidic, and hence the reason why there is so much confusion among the different charts out there.

To test for PRAL, a specific food (i.e. banana) is heated at an extreme (high) temperatures, and then a reading is taken of the ‘ash’ that is left behind of that specific food, and from that ash, the pH is measured.

But here is problem with this method…

While it does give us the mineral content of that specific food which is SO important, what is MISSING is the other important part of that food that gets burned off at the high temperature – the sugar.

And when the sugar gets burned off at this high temperature, the reading gets misconstrued.

This is why some high sugar fruits like bananas for example are listed as alkaline on many charts (not mine) when in fact, they are acidic.

Bananas are 25% sugar, and again, SUGAR = ACID!

When sugar is consumed in any form, it undergoes the process of fermentation (yes, just like beer and wine!), and turns into ACID and ALCOHOL, which binds and clogs your digestive system.

To get the appropriate reading and pH, you must take the reading of the ash before the sugar content gets burned off.

That’s why my chart is the MOST accurate Alkaline / Acid Food Guide that you will find.

Does this make sense?

Now you know WHY lemons, limes, and grapefruits are alkaline-forming and GOOD for you, and WHY oranges and bananas are acid-forming.

They make the smoothies taste better and they do possess some health benefits. But because they are still acidic, you must know how to neutralize the acid to give you a net alkaline gain on that smoothie. So, I’m not saying don’t consume bananas, in fact, many of the smoothies in the GET OFF YOUR ACID 7-DAY CLEANSE have fruits like bananas and berries.

This leads me to two important tips…

Never give your kids (or yourself) oranges or orange juice if they are sick!

Now, oranges do have large amounts of Vitamin C which is beneficial to your immune system, BUT as I mentioned earlier, they are high in sugar and they are acidic.

Sugar feeds bacteria and makes it harder for you to fight off any infection your body is dealing with.

You need to get your body into an alkaline state, because things like bacteria, viruses, mold, fungus, and parasites have a hard time thriving in an alkaline environment.

These little bugs love an anaerobic (without oxygen), acidic state, so if you or your children are ever feeling under the weather, ALKALIZE your body and that will accelerate the healing process.

Do some power breathing exercises to oxygenate your body and to get rid of the most pervasive and damaging acid in your body, CO2 (carbon dioxide gas), hydrate more (coffee doesn’t count!), get more chlorophyll (Daily Greens), more minerals (Daily Minerals), more healthy fats, and lymphasize (i.e. the rebounder) to help detoxify your body.

If you want to have a higher glycemic index fruit like a banana, you MUST make sure to combine it with a healthy fat.

These healthy fats will slow down the metabolization of the sugars in the fruit and will neutralize the ACID and prevent an insulin spike in your blood.

This is why our smoothies on the cleanse that have bananas or berries in them always have a couple of forms of healthy fats included like raw almond butter, coconut oil, chia seeds, flax, and hemp.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion and misunderstanding about fruit and why lemons, which are high in citric acid, is actually one of the most powerful alkalizing agents you can put in your body, and why you should always add this to your water to help alkalize your body and detox and cleanse your blood.

90,000 Banana is an alkaline product. List of Alkaline Foods: Studying It

The division of foods into acidic and alkaline has been around for a long time. The first to draw attention to this division was the German scientist R. Berg. Studying these foods and their effect on the human body, Berg proved that the human body must maintain a normal alkaline environment. For this, it is necessary that a person eats one part of acidic food and two parts of alkaline food per day. An optimal alkaline environment is able to provide, gives energy and strength.Excess acid in the body contributes to premature aging and disease.

Not a lot of nutrient intake is the key to success, but the strength and synergy of whole, disconnected and raw foods. Scientists in the pharmaceutical industry understand very little about the power of raw foods in the process of purifying and rebuilding the physical body. Think about the food consumed by the wildest herbivores, like elephants, horses, or you. They feed mainly on grass and leaves.See the silvery gorillas that live in the wild.

And their diet is very simple, consisting of fruits, sweet tubers, small berries and flowers. More than 70% of grizzly bears carry food from herbs. And all of these are the most powerful animals on stage. I admit, from my own experience, that I have never felt better and in harmony with God and nature than after six months of a regimen consisting entirely of organic oranges. Trust nature, God and intuition if you want to know the truth.

Meat. The whole truth is to survive.

Separation of products into acidic and alkaline

Alkaline products, getting into the body, are well absorbed and cleanse it. Acidic foods can shift the acid-base balance towards an acidic environment. They are difficult to digest and contribute to the formation of toxins. But this does not mean that they are harmful and should be excluded from your diet, they just need to be consumed correctly, along with alkaline foods.

Beetroot, Gogosari – All colors, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Red and White cabbage, Carco, Telina, Cauliflower, Chestnut, Chicory, Arix, American cauliflower, Sweet pitcher.Cucumber, paprika, marar, green stitch, eggplant, chicory leaves, garlic, horseradish, cauliflower leaves, gull, leeks, lamb, green salad, Sauerkraut, Macris, Spinach, Germen, Pumpkin, Sweet potatoes, Tomatoes – only yellow, Nap, Creson, White potatoes. Chinese and Chinese Tea, Organic Wine, Raw Milk Yogurt.

Alcoholic drinks, Artichokes, Asparagus – top. Aspirin, barley, green bananas, dried beans, blueberries, blackberries, blueberries, breads, cakes, cookies, candy, cereals, cheeses, chocolate and cocoa, coffee, cola and soft drinks.Artificial colors, Spices, Ready-made corn. Cornstarch, Salty biscuits, Egg creams, Dairy products, Salad dressings. Jams, gemstones, lentils, mayonnaise, meats – including fish, shellfish, crustaceans and poultry, oat products, processed olives, salt olives, nuts, pasta, peppers, prunes, rice cakes, white and brown rice.

Alkaline (basic) foods contain magnesium, sodium, iron, potassium, calcium, and also reduce acidity. These foods are high in water and low in protein.

It is by no means possible to divide products according to their taste into acidic and alkaline. After all, if you take a lemon, then it tastes sour, but is an alkaline product.

Soy products, Sheta, Refined sugar, Tapioca, Indian tea, Tobacco, Canned vegetables, Vinegar, Yogurt. Remember, Joy, laughter, happiness, relaxation, and sleep create alkalinity. Worry, anger, hatred, india, gossip, fear and insomnia create acidity. The alcoholic diet is known worldwide for its cancer prevention properties, but also for its weight loss capabilities, Victoria Beckham is committed to this diet.

What the alkaline diet is based on. Products are classified into two categories based on their effects on the body. Foods can be acidic or alkaline. Acidic foods cause acidic stomach upset, which can lead to more chronic acidosis. Basically, they acidify tissues in the body, which “absorbs” cells, limiting oxygen, thereby disrupting the immune system. This process can lead to all types of heart disease, vascular disease and cancer.

Alkaline products

Alkaline foods rejuvenate the body and make it healthier. Now let’s talk about what foods can be attributed to alkaline according to their importance for our body:

Acidic products

Acidic foods mainly include foods that are high in carbohydrates, protein or fat, include:

An effective way to prevent this process is an alkaline diet, which promotes good oxygenation of cells in the body. An alkaline diet is based primarily on fruits, but also seeds and oily fruits, which can also lead to weight loss. Basically, those starting an alkaline diet and strict supervision can lose up to seven pounds in one week.

What do you eat on an alkaline diet? Start your morning with a mix of fruits such as avocado, grapefruit, lemon, rhubarb, lime, and strawberries. Provides energy for the first part of the day without raising your blood sugar suddenly, so you don’t run the risk of starving an hour or two after breakfast.

Acid-base balance. I.P. Neumyvakin

pH, or indicator of acid-base balance

This is a measure of the relative concentration of hydrogen (H +
) and hydroxyl (OH-
) ions in a liquid system and is expressed on a scale from 0 (complete saturation with hydrogen ions H +) to 14 (complete saturation with hydroxyl ions OH—
), distilled water is considered neutral with a pH of 7.0.

At noon, you can eat vegetables such as peas, pumpkins, cucumber, garlic, pasta, tomatoes, cabbage, lettuce, asparagus, onions, cauliflower and radishes.Any combination of vegetable socks without fried oil, but steamed or oven-stewed, can be the perfect meal on an alkaline diet.

However, the body also needs fat. Sources of good fat in an alkaline diet include avocado fruit, hemp oil, and olive oil. Don’t forget snacks as they are essential for hunger and metabolism for effective burns. Between meals, snacks should be made from seeds such as almonds, pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds.

An increase in the concentration of positive hydrogen ions (H +
) in any of the body fluids causes a shift in pH values towards zero and is called acid shift.

Increase in the concentration of OH hydroxyl ions
causes a shift in pH values towards the value of 14 and is called an alkaline shift.

Of course, you need to follow an alkaline diet. Most often in the morning for breakfast, you eat a white bread sandwich with cheese or sausage and drink a cup of black coffee, juice or yogurt. Thus, your stomach is filled with only acidic foods, and as a result, the body is hit by potassium, calcium and magnesium. Which is bad for our bones, joints and muscles. In order to compensate for the breakfast you eat, your body will have to release all the minerals. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to correctly combine acidic and alkaline foods. For example, your breakfast might look like black cereal bread, pear and almond cottage cheese, and 1.5 cups of water.

You can also cook with sprouted seeds such as soy, wheat, or lentils, combined with grapefruit juice, lemon water, almond milk or herbal tea.If you feel like you need something more consistent, you can eat broccoli in the oven or stew or humus, they have fiber and protein content, which makes intestinal transit easier. At the same time, they are also salty.

Furious and vegetable juices. You can put the aforementioned vegetables in a juicer or blender so you can consume 300 milliliters for dinner. Foods to avoid on an alkaline diet. Meat proteins should be avoided on an alkaline diet. Therefore, it is not recommended to consume chicken, beef, pig, turkey or lamb. But you can eat fish other than salmon. Don’t worry about not giving your body enough protein. Vegetables such as soybeans, avocados, humus, as well as cauliflower, carrots, asparagus, and broccoli are relatively high in protein.

Thus, your body will receive half of the acidic and half of the alkaline food

Therefore, if you ate an acidic product, be sure to compensate for it with an alkaline one. For example, if you cooked 300 grams of meat, then add 500 grams of greens to it.Of course, it is not necessary to consume alkaline and acidic foods at one time, you can take the whole day. if you can properly balance your diet, you will be guaranteed throughout the day.

Avoid dairy products such as cheese, sour cream, milk, yogurt and ice cream. They increase the acidity of the tissues. Also avoid processing fats from margarine, sunflower and corn, opting for olives, almonds, and avocados. For drinks, vegetable juices and water are summed up. Drinks, coffee, beer, and generally industrially processed drinks are great enemies of health and silhouette.Eliminate them from food. They contain empty calories: so they have no nutritional value, but they are fatty.

Although we often imagine and unknowingly or unapproachably relate to food or lifestyle choices, it is good to know that our bodies are making unpredictable efforts to maintain the necessary functions of “survival” at a normal level. We often feel small symptoms like headaches, dizziness, numbness, etc. body warnings about imbalances present in the body.

Consuming alkaline foods will not only keep you healthy, but also help maintain your beauty. For example, they help to avoid problems with cellulite and skin firmness. After all, as you know, high acidity can cause many diseases. It also significantly slows down the digestion process. Acids have the ability to accumulate in connective tissues, thus posing a risk of inflammation.

To maintain this balance, we must keep in mind both food and other activities that somehow affect the acidity and alkalinity of the blood.Acidity creates inflammation, asymmetry, tissue contraction. We need to consume more alkaline foods and more alkaline water.

95% of our body’s activity is due to minerals, not vitamins. Our biochemistry depends on minerals. Generally, since food is more concentrated in minerals, the better. Wild plants have the most minerals. Organic and organic plants also contain higher amounts of minerals compared to commercial plants. The beauty of our hair, nails and skin depends on how mineralized we are.

Which can lead to arthrosis or muscular rheumatism. With increased acidity, metabolic over-oxidation can occur, which can adversely affect blood flow. Thus, the red bodies, passing through the peroxidized tissue, become inelastic, and form clots, by sticking to each other. As a result, blood clots form, which can cause cerebral hemorrhage or myocardial infarction.

Because each food card has a different opinion about which foods are alkaline and acidic. The first indication of how much alkali or acid a particular food is is the mineral content. If foods contain alkaline minerals, they create alkalinity; if they are rich in phosphorus, chlorine, iodine, nitrogen or sulfur, they create acidity.

Principle of the Mineral Directive

We need both acidic and alkaline minerals to be healthy and balanced. This principle says that minerals are attracted to different parts of plants or animals. Thus, alkaline minerals are found in plant stems, leaves, and animal bones. Acidic minerals are found in the seeds and roots of plants and in the muscles of animals. Fruits and flowers can be slightly acidic, slightly alkaline or neutral. So are the organs of animals.

Maintaining acid-base balance

Can be easily checked at home. To do this, it is enough to use litmus paper. Litmus paper is intended for the determination of alkali and acid in solutions.Very often, similar experiments were carried out at school. If the solution contained acid, then the paper turned red, if alkali, then blue. Take such paper and with its help, and in the morning on an empty stomach check your urine. If the litmus paper turns blue, then everything is in order with your acidity, but if it turns red, then it means that you need to take action.

Therefore, if someone eats rice to compensate, you should eat next to a green salad. “Primitive wisdom” – primitive civilizations seemed to understand this. The modern diet is very acidic. Unless you know for sure, your body should tend to eat more chlorophyll-rich greens. Many people have the wrong opinion about acidic foods. This is not good, we need acidic foods and alkaline foods. But more than alkali, especially in the early years of a healthy diet change.

There is a difference between the acidity of food and its acidifying or alkalizing effect. The fruits are sour in nature. In the body, fruit acids create alkalinity, decreasing acidity levels, ”says Dr. Gheorghe Menchinopski, director of the Food Research Institute. Our specialist draws attention to the confusion between acidic and acidic foods. This confusion is due to the fact that we cannot distinguish these foods from their taste. If our taste buds tell us that food is acidic, that does not mean that the food will also have an acidic effect after digestion.

If you find that you have high acidity, then this is a reason to consider your food and drink diet. Yes, the drinking diet also affects acidity. After all, the kidneys are the main organ of excretion, and acids are excreted through it. Of course, you need to know what to drink. And in order to lower acidity, you need to drink clean water and herbal teas. Water is alkaline, so drinking enough water per day can lower the acidity level in your body.

Based on this principle, foods can be grouped into several categories: acidic foods, acidifying foods and alkaline foods. All unripe fruits, lemons, oranges, tangerines, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, plums, apples, grapes, cherries, tomatoes fall into the acidic category. However, after digestion, they become alkaline and reduce the acidity of the internal environment.

The second category of products acidifies. This category primarily includes products of animal origin, which have an acidic effect on the body due to the proteins they contain. Acidifying products are beef, pork, fish, sausage, fish, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, cheese, butter, lard, boiled and hard vegetable oils, refined cereals, bread, some legumes, oily fruits, refined sugar, baked goods, sugar jams , coffee, tea, cocoa. The acidity caused by the foods listed above can be controlled if we eat alkaline foods: potatoes, green vegetables, carrots, beets, turnips, bananas, avocados, and dried fruits.

The acidic environment promotes the multiplication of pathogenic bacteria, the processes of putrefaction in the intestines and the formation of toxins. The alkaline environment, on the contrary, neutralizes acid, heals mucous membranes and promotes the elimination of toxins. Scientists have proven that cancer is a consequence of the excessive “acidification” of our body.

To prevent acidification of the body, you need to eat more alkaline foods. Alkaline foods are suitable for anyone looking to eat healthier, healthier, and prevent / cure diseases, including cancer. It’s no secret that the cancer industry is not interested in finding a cure for this terrible disease. After all, cancer is the most profitable disease in the history of medicine. However, there is a way out: first, start eating right.

Despite the knowledge that processed foods are bad, we still continue to consume them for convenience and taste.Fast food, processed foods, GMOs continue to harm our bodies as they dramatically alter our pH levels.

The human body must be alkaline. But we go against nature and ourselves create an acidic environment for our body. As a result, acidic pH values affect the immune system and the body becomes prone to various diseases. Conversely, when our body is in an alkaline state, the blood is enriched with oxygen, which is harmful to mutating cancer cells.

The oxygen level in the blood of a healthy person is 98-100 (measured by a pulse oximeter), but in cancer patients this figure does not exceed 60. That is, the lack of oxygen in the body is the cause of the appearance of tumors – the cells must urgently change in order to receive more energy during the fermentation process (fermentation – the release of energy without the participation of oxygen) sugar. These facts are scientifically proven by Dr. Otto Warburg, who received the Nobel Prize in 1931.

To properly switch to alkaline food, it is necessary to gradually minimize the use of acidic foods.

The most “sour” products are: meat, fish, cheeses, eggs, butter, milk, sausages, confectionery and bakery products, all animal fats, nuts, cereals and pasta, sugar, coffee, tea, lingonberries.

Following an alkaline diet, these products in the daily diet can be no more than 20%. This proportion allows you to quickly neutralize the acid accumulated in your body and normalize the Ph of the newly received products.
“Alkaline food” includes mainly raw vegetables and fruits. They reduce acidity, bring an alkaline reaction to the body. In addition, they perfectly cleanse the digestive organs. Ideally, the percentage of raw vegetables and fruits in a person’s diet should be up to 50-60%.

Below is a list of the best alkaline foods, as well as examples of menus using them.

Celery slows down the aging process and has a beneficial effect on the nervous system. We have a special “stress hormone” in our blood. The substances included in the composition of celery significantly reduce the content of this hormone, which soothes and pacifies. So instead of swallowing a sedative, it is enough to eat a little celery, or drink the juice obtained from it. Plus, celery is good for memory.

Add cilantro, dill, lettuce, spinach to various dishes to taste.

Cucumbers and tomatoes

Cucumbers are 90% water, which gives the skin a healthy and youthful appearance. Cucumbers improve appetite, have a choleretic and diuretic effect. In terms of the amount of alkaline salts, cucumber is second only to black radish.Cucumber is a very good source of iodine, and its compounds are easily absorbed by the body.

Tomatoes not only have a beneficial effect on the body, but also on our mood. They contain the organic substance tyramine, which is converted into serotonin in the body. Thanks to this, they cheer up and help fight stressful conditions. Tomatoes do not need to be refrigerated for tyramine to survive.

Flax seeds, linseed oil

These seeds are very alkaline, high in fiber and rich in vitamin E.Their anti-inflammatory properties also help in reducing hot flashes in menopausal women. A healthy breakfast recipe from Dr. Joanna Budwig, seven-time Nobel Prize winner who has cured 90% of her cancer patients from cancer. In half a cup (100-150 grams) of natural, fat-free (1%) cottage cheese, add 2 tablespoons of flaxseed oil or 2 tablespoons of freshly ground flax seeds and a little red capsicum. Mix everything – the dish is ready! Important: flaxseed oil or seeds should be used immediately after contact with air, and it is better to eat the dish itself with a wooden spoon – any metal destroys the beneficial properties of flaxseed oil. You can also season salads with flaxseed oil or sprinkle with flaxseeds on top.

Zucchini

Zucchini is the most common dietary product. This vegetable is a good food for those suffering from gastrointestinal diseases and diabetes patients. Zucchini are valuable because they contain effective components necessary for proper human nutrition. The ratio of potassium and sodium 150: 1 has a beneficial effect on the body’s water balance.

90,000 things to know. What foods contain aspirin

The presence of alkali in the body has a very important role, this is due to the acid-base balance. There are some foods that contribute to an increase in acidity in the stomach, during this process, poor digestion of foods and the formation of fermentation occurs, which contributes to the growth of bacteria.

When bacteria form, poorly digested foods are deposited by toxins and toxins in the body.As a result, there is a deterioration in digestion and the occurrence of various kinds of discomfort. Alkali is a kind of acidity stabilizer and prevents the digestion of food from deteriorating.

Eating foods that contain alkali helps to digest food faster and get all the necessary minerals and vitamins from food.

Reasons for violation of the alkaline balance towards acidity

Violation of the alkaline balance occurs due to improper nutrition. When consuming foods that raise acidity, the level of oxidation in the body increases, which is the reason for a decrease in the alkaline balance.

In order to balance the balance, one should adhere to a certain type of diet, as well as correctly form the menu. It is very important in the process of eating to correctly match dishes that will optimize the pH level.

Products for maintaining alkaline balance

To maintain the alkaline balance, it is necessary to consume alkaline foods.

Alkaline foods for cancer

Many medical professionals claim that a well-chosen alkaline diet helps prevent the development of cancer cells.

To prevent the formation of cancer cells, the following products from the list are recommended:

  • Lemon, lime, grapefruit, watermelon, mango.
  • Garlic, parsley, onion, beetroot, celery.
  • Millet.

Experts advise adhering to the following rules to prevent the formation of cancer cells:

  • Introduce raw fruits and vegetables into your daily diet.
  • Move to fresh air daily.
  • Eat only freshly squeezed juices.
  • Reduce consumption of meat products.
  • Exclude the use of synthetic products.

Improper nutrition increases the incidence of cancer, so it is necessary to consume alkaline food not only to improve the general condition of a person, but also as a prevention against complex diseases such as cancer.

Acid-base balance of food

Acid-base balance should be equal to indicator 7.
If the indicator fluctuates upward, this means an increased oxidizability of the body. In cases where the indicator is less than 7, this means the advantage of an alkaline environment.

In order to measure the pH, it is necessary to purchase litmus strips at the pharmacy and to analyze urine and saliva. After repeated experiments, the average number is displayed, by which the acid-base balance of the body is determined.

In order for the pH value to remain normal, it is necessary to monitor the acid-base balance of the products. To do this, you should use a balanced diet that will contain the optimal amount of essential substances.

You should also know that in order to maintain the balance at the required level, you should correctly combine the products:

In order for the acid-base balance to remain normal, nutritionists recommend that you periodically follow special diets with acidic and alkaline foods as well.

  • There are certain contraindications to dieting.
  • There may be a sharp deterioration in health, due to insufficient intake of nutrients.

Despite all the drawbacks, this type of dietary nutrition is very often recommended by experts to improve the general condition of the body.

Acid-base balance is very important for the normal well-being of a person, if disturbed, problems such as constant fatigue, poor sleep and excess weight may appear. To balance the pH, it is necessary to monitor not only the quality of the products, but also their compatibility with each other.

To balance the indicators, it is necessary to choose the right menu and exclude foods that cause oxidation of the body. In addition, this method of nutrition will not only improve the functioning of the intestines, but also help and eliminate accumulated toxins and toxins.

Alkaline nutrition originated in the 50s of the last century and immediately fell in love with actors and athletes. It is one of the most discussed in scientific circles. Some experts believe that this is a very effective system for losing weight and maintaining health in good shape.

The alkaline diet has opponents who argue that this program can lead to a serious violation of the acid-base balance in the body. One way or another, but this food system has become extremely popular and has found many fans.

Diet Features

What is an alkaline diet? The basis of this weight loss program is alkaline foods. These primarily include fruits and vegetables. By consuming them in large quantities, you can significantly affect metabolic processes, remove excess water, toxins from the body and normalize metabolism.

However, in the modern world, preference is given to just those products that increase the acidity of the body. These include all flour and confectionery products, cereals, fried foods, snacks, carbonated drinks and much more.

The nutritional problem also lies in the fact that often completely incompatible foods are eaten.Acidity rises, the pH of the gastrointestinal tract is disturbed. Of course, there is an acidic healthy diet, but getting rid of excess weight with this practice is much more difficult.

What is an alkaline system

This program is designed to normalize the body’s pH by restoring the acid-base balance within 3 weeks. This system was tested and refined by the famous singer and model Victoria Beckham. As metabolic processes change, excess weight goes away.

Dietitian Victoria Beckham – Natasha Corrett, author of a book on healthy eating, believes that the use of alkaline foods will lead to normalization of weight and get rid of many diseases: cancer, cardiovascular problems, diabetes and many others.

When acid food is consumed in large quantities, alkaline phosphatase in the blood increases – an enzyme that breaks down phosphoric acid and is involved in the transport of this alkaline nutrient through the cell membrane. This indicator indicates a disruption in the functioning of the liver and kidneys, changes in bone tissue, as well as an excessive accumulation of body fat.

With increased alkaline phosphatase, it is recommended to change the diet and practice an alkaline diet. It helps to normalize this indicator in the blood, is the prevention of the development of oncological diseases, and affects the strengthening of muscle mass. To do this, it is necessary to include in the diet 70-80% alkaline and 20-30% acidic foods.

If the acid level is very high, all kinds of disturbances in the functioning of various body systems occur.

What changes occur in the human body in violation of the pH of the environment

The norm of pH is 7.4 units. If this indicator changes, serious violations occur in metabolic processes and in the work of all internal organs:

  • Collagen synthesis decreases, as a result, connective tissues suffer.
  • There is a threat of such diseases as oncology, diabetes mellitus, neuroses, osteoporosis.
  • Toxicosis, diseases of the skin and mucous membranes may occur.
  • The body becomes sensitive to external stimuli, allergic reactions are manifested.
  • There are problems with the digestive system.

Diet food

Vegetables and fruits eaten raw contribute to alkalinization of the body. During heat treatment, they lose their properties. To “alkaline” products
also include:

  • greens;
  • berries;
  • pearl barley;
  • wild rice;
  • algae;
  • plant seeds;

the following list can be attributed:

  • poultry meat;
  • fish;
  • seafood;
  • corn oil;
  • oatmeal;
  • dairy products.

Combined with natural vegetables and fruits, this food can be used on an alkaline diet.

Most alkaline foods

  • Lemon
    – number 1 in the list.
  • Dill, parsley, cilantro
and other greens are the main source of alkali.

Basic rules for an alkaline diet

  • Fractional nutrition.Eat a little 4-5 times a day. This mode will allow food to be digested quickly.
  • Breakfast and lunch should be complete and nutritious, dinner light.
  • Dinner should be no later than 7 pm.
  • Diet changes should be made gradually. Alkaline foods should replace acidic foods and, over time, take up 70% of the total amount of food eaten per day.
  • Drinking fluids will help the body cleanse itself. Drink 1.5-2 liters per day. clean drinking water.
  • Vegetable salads are the basis of the diet. The more often they are consumed and the more varied in composition they are, the more benefit to the body.
  • Meals should be balanced.

Diet Benefits

  • Alkaline food products, the lists of which are given above, help to normalize the pH of individual organs and the body as a whole.
  • This program affects the general tone of the body, promotes the release of energy.
  • In the process of applying the diet, the complexion changes, the skin becomes more elastic, the hair and the nail plate are strengthened.
  • Thanks to alkaline nutrition, many functions of the body are restored, kidney stones dissolve, and the work of the gallbladder is getting better.
  • When switching to such a program, excess weight is lost, metabolic processes are normalized.
  • Acid-base balance affects many chemical reactions in the body.

Acid-alkaline diet involves the use of alkaline and acidic foods in a 50% / 50% ratio so that the body gets used to the new diet.

Disadvantages of diet

  • This diet requires strict control at first: the exclusion of acid from the diet is fraught with health problems, so you should not get carried away with the most alkaline foods.
  • For people suffering from gastrointestinal diseases, a sudden transition to such a diet is extremely dangerous. You should gradually replace acidic products, first with neutral, then alkaline.
  • Alkaline foods are rich in fiber and carbohydrates, but they are low in protein and fat. Therefore, when getting used to such a program, fatigue, weakness, and drowsiness occur.
  • In order to maintain calcium levels, vitamin-mineral complexes should be consumed during the diet.

Contraindications

  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • cardiovascular diseases;
  • low acidity;
  • renal failure.

Three Phases Slimming

As a rule, this program is designed for 3 weeks.

  • First phase
    – the most difficult and painful, when the body gets used to the new food system. During this period, you should gradually change the diet, introduce alkaline foods, replace the most beloved and familiar acidic foods with neutral ones. At the same time, metabolic processes are changed and activated, and cleansing occurs. Apathy and fatigue are possible. Weight goes away quite actively.
  • Second phase
    – restoration and alignment of acid-base balance. Slowing down the process of losing weight. The tone rises, the mood improves.
  • End of program
… The result is more noticeable. The weight is stabilized. The complexion improves, the skin and hair are strengthened.

Professor Neumyvakin, an expert in this field, recommends getting used to alkaline food gradually. This will allow you to painlessly switch from familiar foods to alkaline ones.

Daily menu

If the alkaline diet is right for you, the menu can be compiled immediately for a whole week. The following rule should be observed: in each meal, include 2 alkaline products and add 1 neutral or acidic to them.A sample menu for a week looks like this:

Many of the foods that we eat create an acidic environment in our body, which slows down metabolism and absorbs energy, as a result of which we are prone to excess weight and the development of diseases. Nutritionists advise eating more alkaline foods, especially for people trying to lose weight.

In the twentieth century, therapists Franz Xaver Mayr (1875-1965) and Howard Hay (1866-1940) were among the first to formulate the whole doctrine and concept of acid-base balance.

In the mid-20th century, French scientist Louis-Claude Vincent invented a technique for measuring certain characteristics of blood, including its pH. The work he was doing inspired some authors who began to use pH balance in their diets.

Various diets were aimed at restoring the acid-base balance in the body, increasing energy and vitality, preventing the development of most diseases, including osteoporosis ().

Acids are present in the human body, for example, digestive juices, however, as for the blood, it must be alkaline, pH 7.35 to 7.45.

Nutritionists believe that maintaining the correct alkaline level can improve our mood, increase energy, relieve migraines, and reduce physical pain.

The acid / alkali (pH) level is essential for the health of cells and tissues in the body. For the body to function properly, it is important to maintain the acid-base level at all times. if the environment is too acidic or too alkaline, cells are not able to work effectively, or they are damaged, which negatively affects health.

Many foods can affect the pH of the body, as well as an unbalanced diet. Some of them break down into acidic substances, while others break down into alkaline substances. A healthy diet should be 70% alkaline and 30% acidic.

A large intake of acidic foods slows down the metabolism, which leads to fatigue, loss of energy, the risk of developing diseases, and weight gain. To maintain your health, it is better to eat less acidic foods. In this article, we’ll talk about healthy alkaline foods that don’t break the balance.

Alkaline foods to maintain a healthy pH

As already mentioned, our body has a pH of about 7.4 i.e. slightly alkaline. The body is constantly regulating this level. To maintain a healthy acid-base balance, we only need to eat a healthy diet. eat more alkaline foods and less acidic ones (70:30 or 80:20). Nutritionists believe that alkaline foods are the foundation of health, rejuvenation of body cells, as opposed to acidic foods, which, if consumed excessively, can lead to disease.

If your diet includes a large number of foods that create an acidic environment, then an excess of it can oxidize tissues and organs, which leads to the development of diseases. In addition, an acidic environment can become a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and other microorganisms. These microbes can interfere with the normal thyroid gland by delaying the processing of fat. As a result, the metabolism slows down with a subsequent increase in body weight.

In addition, the accumulation of acid can lead to acidosis, which negatively affects the liver, kidneys and heart. These problems can lead to stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, cardiovascular problems, osteoporosis, obesity, and hypertension.

The main sources of acid accumulation in the body are: metabolic disorders; consumption of acid with food, air, water.

For example, nitrogen oxide emissions from industrial plants, food colors, sprays, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, water pollutants like chlorine, fluoride, etc. are just a few of the acidic chemicals we consume on a daily basis.

Eating more alkaline foods not only maintains the correct pH balance in the body, but also improves health.

According to some celebrities, physicians and self-styled health experts, the alkaline healing system eliminates the need for any medical treatment. According to scientific studies, everything is much more complicated. While the alkaline environment is actually conducive to health, it should not be considered a panacea for all diseases. Try the alkaline health system and you will be able to judge for yourself how effective this diet is.

Steps

Alkaline diet

Drink alkaline water. Doctors and nutritionists advise drinking plenty of water. Nutritionists who recommend an alkaline diet are advised to drink alkaline water. Some research suggests that alkaline water can help slow bone loss, but more research is needed to confirm this fact.

  • Alkaline water will not harm your body, so give preference to this water.
  • Include a variety of alkaline foods in your diet. The above tips are the fundamental principles of this power system. In addition to the products mentioned above
, include the following options in your diet:

    • nuts and seeds
      90,030 almonds, chestnuts, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds;
    • protein sources:
      90,030 tofu, soy, millet, tempeh, whey protein;
    • spices and seasonings:
      sea salt, chili, curry, mustard, ginger, cinnamon, stevia;
    • dried fruits:
      dates, raisins, figs.
  • Reduce the consumption of oxygenated products.
Although many people give up meat, dairy products and eggs right away when they start on an alkaline diet, there are a number of other foods that should be avoided as well. In addition to meat, dairy products and eggs
Eliminate the following foods from your diet:

    • cereal products:
      90,030 pasta, rice, bread, cereals, crackers, spelled and so on;
    • processed foods:
      90,030 sugary / fatty snacks, sodas, desserts, jams, jellies, and so on;
    • some fruits and vegetables:
store juices, blueberries, coconut flakes, olives, plums, prunes.
  • 80/20 is the formula for alkaline diet success.
This means that 80 percent of your diet should be alkaline and 20 percent acidic. You should not only eat alkaline foods if you are following this diet. Stick to an 80/20 ratio in your diet; 80% of the foods should fit your alkaline diet plan, the remaining 20% may be “forbidden” foods.

    • You can choose the products for your diet yourself. For example, you can try planning each meal so that about 20% of your calories come from alkaline foods. Alternatively, you can try this diet most of the time, with only one “break” in every fifth meal.
  • Don’t fall into the trap of scammers.
Fraudsters often claim that in order to properly follow an alkaline diet, it is important to buy special (usually expensive) foods. This is a fraud. When compiling the menu, refer to the list of products mentioned above. Buy regular groceries in stores instead of buying questionable substitutes.

    Lifestyle

    1. Try to minimize stressful situations.
Stress is either a cause or a consequence of high acid balance. However, this connection has not been confirmed by science. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that a stress-free life is a healthy life.If you try to reduce the stress in your life, you can prevent the development of many diseases, such as heart disease.

      Rest after training.
Exercise is essential to well-being. However, if you experience muscle soreness after exercising at the gym, reduce the intensity of your training, as vigorous exercise can lead to a build-up of lactic acid in the muscles. Reduce the intensity of your workouts if you start to experience muscle soreness. The body needs time to remove the breakdown products of lactic acid and restore damaged tissues; If you do not give your body enough time to recover, painful cramps cannot be avoided.

      • If you are following an intense training schedule, try different muscle groups on different days. This is necessary so that each group has the opportunity to rest. For example, if you are working on a muscle group of the upper limbs on Monday, on Tuesday you can work on the lower part of your body.
    2. Limit alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and drug use.
Nutritionists say that these substances increase acidity. This may be true, but when it comes to caffeine, this statement sounds highly dubious. Nevertheless, this advice is worth listening to – for sure, following this rule will have a beneficial effect on your health. By consuming the aforementioned substances, you can face serious health problems.

    Common misconceptions

Do not believe the statement that alkali cures all diseases. Some nutritionists believe that an alkaline diet prevents serious health problems such as cancer. There, at the moment, no less than
There is scientific evidence for this claim. If you have a serious health problem, is not
Consider an alkaline diet a panacea for all ills. Get qualified medical attention.

    • To support the above hypothesis, nutritionists cite the fact that some
Cancer cells grow faster in acidic solutions. However, these studies were conducted in test tubes, not in the human body. Agree, there is a huge difference between the conditions in the test tube and in the human body. Therefore, it is impossible to say with complete certainty how a cancer tumor will behave in an alkaline environment in a human body.
  • This was a real discovery for our editorial staff! As it turned out, many foods that a person is used to eating create an acidic environment in the body that slows down metabolic processes. This is where excess weight, premature aging and many unpleasant diseases come from. The only salvation is restoration of acid-base balance
and healthy harmony in the entire complex system called the “human body”.

Acid-base balance of the body – Weight loss based on

According to many experts, a very high acidity of the body disrupts the normal functioning of organ systems, and they become defenseless against a variety of bacteria and viruses.

The pH value is the number of hydrogen atoms in a given solution. If it is 7, then this is a neutral environment, if it is from 0 to 6.9, then it is an acidic environment, from 7.1 to 14 – an alkaline one. As you know, the human body is 80% water solution. The body is constantly trying to balance the ratio of acid and alkali in this solution.

Consequences of acid-base imbalance in the body

If the acid-base balance is disturbed, it can cause serious disturbances in the body. When you eat foods rich in acid and not enough water, acidification of the whole body occurs. These include sodas, cereals, foods containing sugar, sugar substitutes, baked goods, meat products, and meat.

Acidification is dangerous because it worsens the transfer of oxygen throughout the body, micro- and macroelements begin to be poorly absorbed. This can cause, first of all, disturbances in the digestive system, cell metabolism, and also causes cardiovascular diseases, skin diseases, a decrease in bone density, immunity, and more.In an environment where the acid-base balance indicates acidic, various parasites, including viruses, fungi and bacteria, grow and multiply rapidly.

Nobel laureate Otto Warburg received his prize for the discovery that cancer cells do not multiply in an oxygen-rich environment, and it was later proved that viruses, bacteria and fungi are inactive in such an environment. The higher the pH, which is alkaline, the higher the concentration of oxygen molecules (calorizer). In an acidic environment, the concentration of CO2 increases and lactic acid is formed, which creates the preconditions for the growth of cancer cells.

How to check the pH of the body?

It is quite easy to check your acid-base balance using a special test – test strips of litmus paper, which can be bought at a pharmacy. The most optimal pH balance is 6.4-6.5. It is best to determine your acid-base balance one hour before meals, or two hours after.

urine pH can fluctuate throughout the day. If in the morning its value is 6.0-6.4, and in the evening it is 6.4-7.0 – there is no reason for concern. However, if the test shows 5.0 and below, then the pH of the urine is sharply acidified, and if 7.5 or higher, then the alkaline reaction prevails.By the pH value of urine, you can determine how well minerals are absorbed in our body, for example, calcium, sodium, magnesium.

As for the pH of saliva, its value indicates the active work of enzymes in the alimentary tract, especially the liver and stomach. The normal acidity of mixed saliva is 6.8-7.4 pH. It is usually measured at noon on an empty stomach or two hours after eating. Low acidity of the oral cavity often leads to tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath.

What is acidic and alkaline media?

In medicine, there is such a term as “acidosis” – this is hyperacidity. Drinking a lot of alcoholic beverages and complications of diabetes mellitus often lead to this condition. With increased acidity, problems with the heart and blood vessels can be observed. A person can gain weight quickly enough. Very often in such cases, there are diseases of the kidneys, bladder and decreased immunity.

An increase in the level of alkali in the body is called alkalosis. In this case, poor absorption of minerals is also observed. The reason for this condition in the body may be the prolonged use of medicinal substances containing a large amount of alkali. Alkalosis is rare enough, but it can also cause serious and negative changes in our body. These include diseases of the skin and liver, unpleasant and pronounced odor from the mouth, and others.

How to maintain a normal pH?

To maintain the optimal acid-base balance of the body, you need to drink a sufficient amount of water (30 ml per 1 kg of body). As for food, there should be several times more alkaline-rich foods than acidic foods.

Plant food, like vegetables and fruits, promotes the formation of an alkaline reaction, and cereals, meat, processed food in the form of sausages, semi-finished products, bakery products – acidic. To maintain an optimal acid-base balance, it is necessary that the diet is dominated by plant foods.

Doctors say that it is in our best interests to maintain the correct level of acid and alkali in the body.Only with an optimal pH balance, our body absorbs nutrients well.

Our body has natural mechanisms that improve the acid-base balance. These are the buffer systems of the blood, the respiratory system and the excretory system. When these processes are disrupted, our body releases acids into the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and lungs, and our skin. It is also able to neutralize acids with minerals and accumulate acids in muscle tissue (calorizator). If you feel tired, it may mean that the iron in the hemoglobin in your blood is neutralizing the acid. If dizziness, headaches, cramps and insomnia are observed, then this may signal that magnesium is being used in nerves, muscle tissue and bones.

Here are how many health problems can arise from acid-base imbalance. Don’t let things go by themselves, take into account that prevention is the key to good health.Monitor your body pH regularly to avoid many diseases.

Why is it usually said “banana” rather than “banana”, but “lemon” and not “lemon”?

Adjectives are formed in the Russian language according to different derivational models. The suffixes that are most often used are called productive suffixes. These include, for example, the suffixes -H- and -OB – (- EB-). Both suffixes have the meaning “referring to something”, therefore, they are equivalent and can equally participate in the word formation of adjectives.

Why is the suffix -Н- used for some adjectives in the language, and -ОВ- for others? Scientists have been looking for an answer to this question for a long time, but have not yet come to a consensus. It is only known that in different periods of language development, the productivity of some suffixes increases, while the productivity of others decreases. Thus, the presence of a particular suffix in an adjective can be explained etymologically, by determining the period of appearance of a given word in Russian.

Thus, the adjective ‘lemon’ is derived from the noun ‘lemon’, which has been known in Russian since the 11th century. Already in 1582, the adjective ‘lemon’ appears in the dictionary, this is a very ancient adjective, and during its formation, the suffix -Н- was probably more productive.

But the adjective ‘banana’ appeared in the language much later, its ‘ancestor’ – ‘banana’ – was recorded in dictionaries only in the 2nd third of the 19th century.During this period, the word-formation model with the suffix -ОВ- became more productive. Interestingly, some words have variations due to the parallel use of the suffixes -Н- and -ОВ-. For example, an adjective derived from the noun ‘orange’ is noted in dictionaries of the late 18th century as ‘orange’, and only since 1806 – as ‘orange’.

By the way, the word ‘lemon’ really exists in the modern Russian language, it is indicated in the Scientific and informational publication “Academic Spelling Resource ACADEMOS” of the Institute of the Russian Language.V.V. Vinogradov of the Russian Academy of Sciences. However, in the texts that make up the National Corpus of the Modern Russian Language, examples of the use of this word are not found.

Everything opens up in a new light: why lemon should be added to almost any dish

Sorrento, August, the sea, rocks and the most beautiful sunsets in the world.Sophia Loren, born in these parts, walked along these embankments. But the main pride of these places is not the sea or even Sophia Loren herself. The main attraction of these places is lemons.

Huge, covered with a thick “cellulite” crust. They lie photogenically in mountains in wooden boxes, torn off right along with branches and fragrant leaves. As if a skilled stylist came and laid them out like this for the upcoming photo shoot. These leaves, full of ether, you want to rub your wrists, they will replace any perfume.Or you can throw them into the soup, like lavrushka, into cream to give flavor to future ice cream, or rather, not ice cream, there is only jellato. You can lay out a large dish with these leaves, and on them are fillets of fish, the one that local fishermen caught in the morning. Here, on the Amalfi coast, today it is a swordfish, but in Moscow it would be dorada, cod or pike. It sounds simple only in comparison, in fact it does not matter at all.

The main thing is that lemon leaves with their aroma will return you to those lands where it was so good and calm.Where you sat somewhere under the crowns of lemon trees, breathed this lemon air, and everything bad was somewhere far, far away, where you are not

Dreams can be turned into reality if you grow a lemon tree right in the apartment, many cope with this quite successfully. The small town of Pavlovo-on-Oka in the Nizhny Novgorod region became famous throughout the country for its lemons, although there is not even a trace of the climate in the south of Italy, and you will not find lemon alleys there. Walking along the streets, look into the windows of wooden houses with carved platbands. In every house you will see the same thing as in any small town in Russia: outside the window, on the windowsill, a cat of an unknown breed with a sleek muzzle will watch you, in the back of the room there will be a TV covered with a lace scarf, and next to or in the same place, on the window, it is lemon tree. There are lemon trees in every house, you can’t live without them. And they grow there so beautifully that they even erected a monument to lemon in the city.

I never caught myself thinking about a series of coincidences that my personal paradise, the Amalfi Coast, was connected with the town from my childhood and my favorite and most important ingredient in the world lemon.

The fact that it is impossible to live, cook, eat and even open a restaurant without lemon, I realized only years later, at the time when I worked in the kitchen of a Parisian restaurant

Every morning began with the fact that the best suppliers and farmers from all over France brought their pride to our kitchen, their work their best products. The freshest fish, the fancy greens that had just been cut, the fantastic cheeses that I then tried unsuccessfully to find in every Parisian market on Sunday. But another thing surprised me – boxes of lemons, appearing and disappearing in just a week at the speed of light. This was surprising only for one reason: there was not a single lemon dish on the menu. No lemon pies, no cakes. Nothing at all. So why are they needed in such quantities?

    © Sergey Bobylev / TASS

Let’s go in order. There is salt, there is oil, there is pepper – these are the simplest things, this is the base without which neither the great chef nor Baba Nyura, who cooks for her grandchildren, can exist. The quality of these products is the cornerstone of any dish. Truly high-quality, thick and tart olive oil with fresh, unwashed, aromatic pepper crushed in a marble mortar and a pinch of sea salt will turn even the simplest pasta or buckwheat into something unforgettable and special. In other words, these are all strongest flavor enhancers. And what can reveal the taste, pull it out, make it work better than acid? Here is the answer.

Lemon is not just a fruit or citrus, it is a seasoning, it is “salt”, it is a spice.Call it what you want. Without acid, the picture is not complete, it is just a sketch. Without it, our receptors don’t work at full capacity. The acid creates a balance between all the other ingredients: sweetness, bitterness, pungency, spice. There is no perfect middle ground without it. Acid is the key and secret ingredient

Adding it is not something that is possible, but it is necessary almost everywhere. Even if you bought a ready-made kebab in the supermarket and cooked it on the grill, pouring it with lemon juice (more generously), and with a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt, this simple semi-finished product plays with new colors.Lemon juice will do better. Cut the pumpkin with a potato peeler into thin petals, season with lemon juice, sea salt and olive oil and be surprised how some raw pumpkin perfectly complements even fried fish, even a steak. And besides, how it turns out beautifully and unusual. And you can not pumpkin, you can turnips, radishes, and even carrots. Now is the season of vegetables, take any, all you need, is very thinly sliced and sprinkled with juice. In general, today I have a difficult task, because telling what you can do with lemon juice is like educating about where to add salt.Lemon is to some extent “salt”. Therefore, I will not torture myself, there is one answer – add lemon everywhere, the main thing is to learn to feel balance, and for this you have to try and try again.

A couple of drops in salad, soup, and of course, dressings and sauces. Everything opens in a new light, you just have to add a lemon.

But again I will jump from Paris to the lemon paradise – Amalfi. There, the main value of a lemon is not in the juice or even in its pulp. There it is, just an addition to the main thing – to his zest.Lemon zest is almost the most important thing in lemon (although we already understood that even the leaves of it must be used). It is on the zest that their main attraction insists limoncello liqueur, no juice is added there. And the color becomes bright yellow without any dyes.

Zest is the quintessence, gold concentrate, the whole essence and taste of lemon. But there is a very important nuance: in order to get only benefit from this essence, you need to know how to get it

It is important to arm yourself with a hand-held fine and sharp float. With this float, you need to remove only the uppermost, most yellow layer. If the grater is sharp, then it is enough to swipe the lemon literally once. It is in this – the uppermost, thin, bright yellow layer of the zest – all the ether and all the taste. You don’t need the white part in any way, it only gives you bitterness. Bitterness spoils everything, so you urgently need a good hand grater, ideally with a rubber handle. Everything is in nuances, especially in the kitchen.

Zest is unique in how it makes familiar flavors play in a new way.If lemon juice enhances them, then the zest complements them. The same ingredient, but different ingredients, solve different problems. The zest will complement a lot, for example, fried chanterelles, which are now in season. They need to be fried in a mixture of olive and butter with thyme and garlic, and at the very end, when everything is ready, rub the zest, but just a little, just with a note, add parsley, chopped into dust and more butter – again nuances.

Zest is adored in all cuisines of the world, it will go for salmon, and its caviar, and lamb, and ravioli stuffed with its tails. There is one more iconic dish with lemon, according to which you can appreciate the skill of the chef. This is a lemon tart. Immortal and permanent classics. There is on the menu of almost every self-respecting restaurant, and if not now, then it was or will be. In this, on the one hand, simple, and on the other hand overwhelming recipe, you can capture the whole essence of the cook: how does he cope with this acid in combination with sugar, how does he know how to deal with bitterness, which side of taste has he pulled the blanket over? Lemon tart exposes the chef’s ability to keep balance. There is nothing worse in the world than a sugary lemon dessert, and it is very easy to overdo it with sugar. And how will the tart behave on the second day, how much will the bitterness come out? You won’t know until you try it yourself.

I have developed a very simplified version of the recipe that minimizes the likelihood of failure. It may not be called a classic French tart, but the number one hit among all my friends for sure. Everything is so simple there that you don’t even have to roll out the dough, which means you don’t have to stain the table with flour, and then wash it all.In other words, there is no reason to dodge lemon tonight.

How to make the easiest lemon tart in the world

    • Take care of the filling: grate the zest, use a sharp grater for this, you only need the yellow part of the zest.In a large bowl, beat the eggs well with a whisk or mixer, add plain sugar, vanilla sugar, a pinch of salt, and quickly whisk again. Add the zest and lemon juice to the beaten eggs and beat well again.
    • Add 3 tablespoons to the lemon mixture. l. flour and mix well again – no lumps!

growing tips: care, planting and replanting, fertilizing and soil Peter Peet, watering, pruning, diseases and pests

Lemon – a plant from the Rute family. There are many legends about this fruit, one of them says that the beloved servant of one of the Caucasian kings of Khosrov fell out of favor for a crime. The enraged master ordered the servant to be immediately imprisoned and ordered the guards to feed the prisoner with only one type of food. When asked which one, Vladyka, having mercy, replied: “Let him choose himself.” The prisoner had no choice but to fulfill the royal will. He asked to feed him with lemons, explaining to the guards: “The scent of lemon will amuse my thoughts, the peel of fruits and grains will be good for my heart, in the pulp of the lemon I will find food for myself, and with juice I will quench my thirst.”

Lemon is rich in a huge amount of vitamins and is very useful for the human body: it contains pectins, carotenes, phytoncides, organic acids, vitamins C, E, PP and B vitamins.Lemon strengthens the immune system, has an antiseptic, antiviral, diuretic effect, acts on the body as an antioxidant, helps rid the body of toxins and toxins, improves the work of the cardiovascular system, helps to remove heavy metal salts from the body, has a beneficial effect on metabolic processes, prevents putrefactive and fermentation processes in the intestines, increases appetite, tones and improves mood. 100 g of lemon contains 0.9 g of protein, 0.1 g of fat, 3 g of carbohydrates and only 33 Kcal.

However, lemon is contraindicated in case of increased acidity of gastric juice, in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, ulcers and gastritis, pancreatitis, allergies to citrus fruits, individual intolerance to lemon and citrus fruits.

    Home cultivars:

Pavlovsky, Lunario (or Four-Season), Ponderoza2 (or Canadian), Skernevitsky, Lisbon, Kursk, Genoa, Maikop, Villafranca, “Jubilee”, “Meyer” (“Chinese Dwarf”).

    Place for lemon

Lemons love diffused sunlight and have a negative attitude towards drafts. Place them on a stand by the window.

    Lemon care

Soil. Lemon prefers neutral soil ( рh = 6.0-7.0). You can prepare your own potting mix by mixing 400 g of soil, 2 tbsp. l of ash, 6 tablespoons of humus leaves and manure, 200 g of sand and diluting with a small amount of water until a thick creamy mass is obtained. You can plant lemon in ready-made PETER PEAT “For citrus” HOBBY line.

Landing. Purchase a clay pot for the lemon. At the bottom, put a layer of drainage (3-5 cm) (for example, expanded clay PETER PEAT of the VITA line), then a layer (1-2 cm) of moss, dried manure or peat and then the soil mixture, which must be tamped in a pot so as not there were voids with air at the roots.

After planting, place the lemon for 7 days on the north or west window, where there will be the least amount of sun. After a week, the lemon can be transferred to the south window.

Transplant young trees annually in spring, and a fruiting one every 2-3 years (before the start of growth). Do not replant the lemon during flowering or fruiting, otherwise the leaves and fruits may fall off. Transplant the lemon using transshipment.

Irrigation . Lemon does not like a lack or excess of moisture, so it must be watered very carefully: in the summer – as the earthen coma dries, in the winter – about 1 time per week.During watering, distribute the water evenly over the entire surface of the soil, until it appears on the sump. During flowering and fruit set, lemon requires abundant watering.

In summer, spray lemon from a spray bottle 2-5 times a week, in winter – 2-3 times, and also wipe the leaves with a cotton swab soaked in water once a week.

Temperature and humidity. Comfortable temperature for growing lemon is + 18-24c °, air humidity – about 60-80%.With the beginning of the heating season, the temperature in the room can rise to 25-26 c °, and the humidity can drop to 25-30%, so install trays of water between the plants or purchase small indoor fountains or special room humidifiers. In winter, daylight hours for lemon should last at least 11-14 hours, so plants need to organize supplementary lighting with phytolamps.

Pruning. Lemon will bear fruit every year if you periodically trim it carefully and correctly and remove old branches.Prune the lemon in March before the lemon starts to sprout. You can thin out the crown a little in winter, after removing the fruits from the tree.

Formation of the crown of the tree:

    1. Cut off the zero-order shoot (vertical shoot) at a height of 15-20 cm, leaving 4 developed buds, of which 3-4 main shoots should be formed in the future.

    2. As soon as the shoots of the first order (main) reach a length of 20-30 cm, pinch their tips.

    3. When the shoots of the second order grow, cut them to a length of 20-25 cm.Cut subsequent shoots 5 cm shorter than the previous ones.

    4. Approximately on the fourth order of shoots, the formation of the crown ends. From the shoots of the fourth order, the tree begins to bear fruit.

In the future, shorten strong shoots, remove old and growing into the crown. Either remove vertically growing non-fruiting shoots or cut them to 20-25 cm so that they begin to bear fruit.

Regularly prune weakened branches on older trees to induce new shoot growth.By gradually pruning and feeding the old tree, you will prolong its fruiting.

So that lemon bears fruit annually, remove some of the flowers in parallel with pruning and pinching the shoots. From their surplus, the tree is depleted, the amount of ovary decreases, from which fruits will be obtained in the future. The more barren flowers you remove, the more useful ovary will remain on the tree.

    Top dressing

From early March to mid-August, feed lemon once a week, in winter – once a month.

    Top dressing recipes:

    • March-April – Take 100 g of slurry and 5 g of superphosphate, dilute them in 1 liter of water and mix well. In April, the feeding recipe is the same, just add 3 g of potassium sulfate.
    • May – take 1.5 g of urea and 2-3 g of complex mineral fertilizer with trace elements (Kemira Universal, Universal, Solution) or a complex mixture containing trace elements: 3 g of mania sulfate, 200 mg of boric acid and 20 mg of copper sulfate, diluted in 1 liter of water and mix.
    • June – Dissolve 5 g of superphosphate and 3 g of potassium sulfate in 1 liter of water and stir.
    • August – 100 g of slurry, 0.2 g of manganese and 2 g of complex fertilizer with microelements per 1 liter of water.
    • September – Feed your lemon with compound fertilizers. Well suited fertilizer PETER PEAT “NPK 15-15-15” of the MINERAL line.
    • October-February – Spray the lemon leaves with pale pink potassium permanganate (0.1-0.2 g per liter of water). For foliar feeding, you can use PETER PEAT liquid humic fertilizer “Living Power: for indoor plants”.

    Reproduction

Cuttings. Cut off cuttings from one-, two-, three-year branches 6-10 cm long and 3-5 leaves. Make the lower cut on the handle oblique (directly under the kidney), and the upper cut straight (above the upper kidney). Before planting, remove the lower leaf of the cutting, sprinkle the lower cut with crushed charcoal. Plant the cuttings in cleanly washed river sand, water and cover with a 0.5 liter jar.The optimum temperature for rooting the cuttings is 20-25 ° C.

After 1.5 months, transplant the cutting into a pot with a soil mixture prepared from 5 parts of granular sod soil, 2 parts of manure humus, 2 parts of deciduous humus and 1 part of steamed river sand. When planting, cover the root collar with soil no more than 1 cm. Then put the lemon in a bright place and spray it with water at room temperature from a spray bottle 2-3 times a day for 2-3 weeks.

Feed the seedling with a weak solution of slurry (50-60 ml per 1 liter of water) and every 10-12 days – infusion of mullein or horse manure diluted with water 6 times.

Seeds. Select the largest seeds from the lemon and immediately sow them in small pots or cups in loose fertile soil to a depth of 1-2 cm, always with a drainage hole at the bottom. Before sowing, soak them in a solution of liquid humic fertilizer PETER PEAT “Living force: for soaking seeds” for 10-12 hours. Sow 10-20 seeds at once so that later you can choose the best shoots.

At the age of 3-5 months, transplant the seedlings (completely preserving the earthen clod) into a larger container and add a handful of compost processed by earthworms to the soil mixture.

    Pests and diseases

    • Aphid is a yellow-green insect that feeds on foliage sap. To combat aphids, place a pot of scented geraniums next to the lemon tree, the smell of which will scare off the aphids. Or rinse the foliage with a cloth with one of the following solutions:

    – Dissolve 30 g of chlorophos or karbofos in 10 liters of water;

    – take 30 g of anabasine sulfate and 40 g of laundry soap and dissolve in 10 liters of water;

    – Stir 5 g of laundry soap and 10 g of kerosene in 1 liter of water;

    – finely chop the onion;

    – steam an infusion of 1 part tobacco dust to 10 parts boiling water in a sealed container for a day, then add soap and denatured alcohol to it.

    • Scabbard is a fleecy dark brown pest that settles on the veins of lemon leaves. In case of severe damage, the scabbard can also cover the stems of the plant. Control measures are the same as for aphids. Treat the plants once a decade (about 3 or 4 procedures). Before processing, try to remove all pests from the leaves, then rinse the affected areas thoroughly. Inspect foliage daily and remove new pests. The place where the scabbard lived, rinse with one of the proposed solutions.

During processing, avoid getting solutions into the ground, and incinerate used rags and toothbrushes. During the treatment period, make sure that the sun’s rays do not fall on the foliage, otherwise burns are possible.

    • Spider mite is a small brownish-red spider that braids the leaves from the underside with cobwebs. The pest feeds on the sap of foliage, which subsequently loses color and falls off. Control measures are the same as for scabbard and aphids. You can also spray the foliage from a spray bottle with tinctures and decoctions of horse sorrel, onion or garlic husks, tobacco, dandelion, potato tops, and yarrow.
    • Sooty fungus – a disease that manifests itself as a dark coating on the leaves, later on the branches and trunk. The disease leads to stunted growth of the tree. Control measures: the sooty fungus feeds on the waste products of the scale insects, therefore, first of all, you need to get rid of the scale insects. Also regularly and thoroughly ventilate the room, treat or spray the lemon tree at least 2 times with a 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture.
    • Gommoz – a disease due to which gum is released on the ground part of the lemon.Reasons: mechanical damage to the tree, improper use of fertilizers, damage by harmful insects. The bark gradually dies off, wounds form on the trunk, and the foliage falls off. Control measures: get rid of pests, clean the affected area to healthy layers, treat it with a 3% solution of Bordeaux mixture and cover with garden varnish. Now disinfect the tree by sprinkling with copper sulfate.

    Notes:

    – If a lemon sheds leaves, it means that the room is either dry air, or drafts, or you moved it from place to place, or over-watering or overdrying the soil.

    – If the leaves curl: this can also be due to unfavorable conditions.

    – If yellow spots appear on the leaves, you may be over-watering the plant.

    – If the leaves begin to turn yellow and shrink, and the lemon stops blooming, then it lacks nutrients and it is necessary to transplant the plant into more nutritious soil. For example, in the ground peter peat “For citrus” lines hobby .

    – If leaves become dry and wrinkled, it is possible that they have received sunburn.

    1. Lemon zest seasoning. Finely grated zest is a great savory addition to a variety of dishes. Store this seasoning in the freezer.
    2. Lemon pepper. It is a spicy blend of black pepper, salt, garlic, onion, turmeric and lemon peel. It is used for preparing various dishes, especially good for grilled fish and meat. You can make lemon pepper at home.
    3. Candied fruits. It’s easier than it sounds to make this favorite childhood treat. You need to boil the pre-soaked lemon peels in sugar syrup and then dry them.
    4. Lemon sugar. Many people love lemon tea. There is a new recipe for them: grate lemon zest, put in a plastic container and cover with granulated sugar. Lemon sugar is also used to make various cocktails.
    5. Freshener for fruits. Sliced bananas and apples turn black quickly. To avoid this and keep the “festive” look of these fruits for a long time, sprinkle them with lemon juice.
    6. Lemon olive oil. If you want to add a pleasant, light lemon scent to regular olive oil, use the following tip. Cut the lemon zest and place it in a jar of butter. Let it brew for two weeks (shaking the jar from time to time). Then strain the oil through a strainer, pour into a bottle and use for cooking.
    7. Limoncello. Lifehacker has already talked about how to make this delicious Italian liqueur. The instruction is here.
    8. Lemon ice. Spirals of lemon zest or whole lemon wedges can be an original decoration and a tasty addition to various drinks if you freeze them with water in ice cube trays.
    9. “Preservative” for cane sugar. If you put a little lemon zest in a box with brown sugar, it will not damp.
    10. Lemon cream. Perfect for soaking biscuits, as well as ice cream and other desserts. The recipe is very simple.

    Life

    1. Cleaning agent.Lemons make an excellent cleaning and disinfecting agent. To prepare it, you will need lemon zest and vinegar. Lemon peels should be put in a jar, covered with vinegar, covered with a lid and left for two weeks. After 14 days, strain the resulting tincture, dilute with water (50 to 50) and you can start cleaning.
    2. Insect repeller. Ants cannot stand the smell of citrus fruits, so to get rid of them, pour lemon juice on baseboards, windowsills, and other places where they hide. Also, lemon is effective against cockroaches and fleas.
    3. Bleach. Lemon has natural bleaching properties. To give white cotton garments a fresher look and to get rid of some types of stains (such as rust), add a little citric acid to the machine before washing.
    4. Refrigerator freshener. Lemon peel absorbs unpleasant odors, and in return gives a pleasant citrus aroma.
    5. Descaler. Over time, scale builds up on the heating elements of metal and plastic kettles. However, it is very easy to get rid of it. To do this, you need to boil a kettle with citric acid. After which it should be thoroughly rinsed and boiled again.
    6. Microwave cleaning. Many housewives are already familiar with this life hack: we take a bowl designed for microwave cooking, fill it halfway with water, add a few drops of lemon juice and send it to the microwave for 3-5 minutes at maximum power. The water boils away, condensation forms on the walls of the stove, which must then be wiped off with a towel.Together with it, the dirt will disappear.
    7. “Firewood”. Dry lemon zest burns great. It can be used instead of paper for kindling a fireplace or lighting a fire.
    8. Cutting board odor eliminator. Onions, fish, garlic – the smells from these and other foods are very pungent and are absorbed into the cutting board for a long time, especially if it is made of wood. You can get rid of unpleasant odors by rubbing the board with half a lemon.
    9. Sasha. This is a scented pillow designed to deodorize laundry and repel moths.Take a cotton bag and fill it with dried lemon zest, cloves, juniper, cardamom, and other spices and herbs of your choice. A pleasant aroma is provided for your things.
    10. Cleaning of knives. Knives that you do not use for a long time become coated. To get rid of it, sprinkle the blade with sea salt and then rub with lemon zest. The knives will be as good as new.

    Health and Beauty

    1. Lemon scrub. Lemons are rich in alpha and beta hydroxyl acids, which are excellent at removing dead skin cells.Plus, lemons help fight acne, pigmentation, and other skin problems. Lemon-based scrubs are an excellent refreshing and cleanser. There are many recipes on the web – you can choose the one that suits your skin type.
    2. Cleaning and whitening of nails. Manicurists recommend this simple recipe for nail care: squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a small cup of warm water and immerse your fingertips there for 3-5 minutes. After the bath, rub the nail plates with lemon zest.
    3. Remedy for nausea. If you feel unwell and nausea comes, hold a slice of lemon in your mouth – the malaise will recede.
    4. Dry skin of the elbows. Our grandmothers also used this remedy to combat dry and darkened skin on the elbows: you need to grease your elbows with cream and rub with lemon juice, and then, after 10-15 minutes, rinse with water. Then again grease with cream.
    5. Lightening age spots. As already mentioned, lemon is a natural clarifier and has been used since ancient times to combat age spots and freckles. To do this, apply lemon juice to problem areas, leave for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with warm water.
    6. Lemon tonic. Lemon is an excellent tonic. The tonic prepared on its basis will cleanse, disinfect and refresh the skin. Typically, lemon tonic is made from mineral water and honey.
    7. Fresh breath. Lemon juice diluted in water can be used to disinfect the oral cavity and get rid of bad odor – citric acid kills bacteria.True, after that, you still need to rinse your mouth with water so that the remains of citric acid do not corrode the enamel.
    8. Aroma bath. If you add a few drops of essential lemon oil to the water in addition to the foam, then a simple hygienic procedure will turn into a therapeutic one. Such baths are great for relaxing, and also help in the fight against cellulite and obesity.
    9. Anti-dandruff remedy. Also “grandmother’s” recipe: rub the hair roots with lemon wedges 1-2 times a week, then wash your hair in the usual way.Warning: lemon is drying, so this method is not suitable for people with dry and sensitive scalp.
    10. Inhalation for colds. Lemon essential oil has many healing properties (you can write a separate article about this), one of its uses is inhalation during colds. Dilute the oil in a ratio of 2-3 drops per glass of water and breathe over the solution for 5-7 minutes.

5 Reasons You Should Drink Lemon Water Every Day

Sipping lemon water is one of the easiest ways to improve your health.

Not only is it delicious and incredibly healthy for you, but it’s also easy to make and relatively inexpensive. See the recipe below.

Here are 5 main reasons why you should drink lemon water every day.

    1. Lemon water alkalizes your body (or balances your pH).

Although lemons are very acidic in their own right, they have a strong alkaline effect on the body. Why is pH so important? Quite simply, cancer cells cannot grow in an alkaline environment. Keeping your body weakly alkaline by alkalizing foods is extremely important to your overall health. (The same goes for limiting acidic foods such as dairy products, animal proteins, and high amounts of processed sugar.)

    2. Lemon water strengthens your immune system.

High amounts of vitamin C, potassium and folate will strengthen your immune system and keep your body healthy. No more colds or sinus problems this fall! Both the natural phytonutrients and the healing properties of this drink will strengthen your immune system.

Bonus: Lemons are also rich in lutein and zeaxanthin for eye health.

    3. Lemon water is a natural diuretic (also induces urine and prevents bloating).

This is a great way to start the day with a large mug of warm lemon water: the diuretic effect helps to flush out toxins from the body to start the day right. Because it is a lightweight, natural diuretic, it does not dehydrate like prescription diuretics. In fact, water and the natural hydration of lemon juice will improve your hydration as well as have a very mild diuretic effect to relieve bloating.

    4. Lemon water aids digestion.

If you have ever experienced an upset stomach, nagging in your stomach, or digestive problems in general, sipping warm lemon water 10-15 minutes before meals will help produce enzymes in your intestines and aid digestion.

What’s more, it also helps the digestion function properly, which may have a long-term healing effect.

    5. Lemon water makes your skin beautiful.

Loaded with vitamin C and a host of nutrients, drinking warm lemon water regularly will leave your skin looking radiant.Try it for a week and see for yourself.

Why do I need fresh lemon?

Believe me, if bottled lemon juice worked the same way, I would say go for it! It just isn’t true. The bottled lemon juice has been pasteurized (heated to a high temperature), which kills most of the enzymes and nutrients. It is also usually just a mixture of water and citric acid with a little lemon flavor or very little lemon juice. If you want to get the natural healing properties of this drink, you need to use real lemon.

No lemon? No problems! Use instead of lime

Limes also have very similar properties to lemons and taste great. Adding lime juice to warm water from time to time is a great way to mix things up.

    How to Make Lemon Water

Fill a 12-15 oz mug with warm (not boiling) water and add the juice of 1/2 lemon.Always use fresh lemon; Never use bottled lemon juice. Organic lemons are best if you have access to them. If not, wash the lemon well before slicing it. Plus, boiling water will kill the nutrients in the lemon, you need warm water, not boiling water. Bring the water to a boil and let it cool in a mug for 3-5 minutes before adding the lemon. Room temperature water is also fine. Optional, Optional: Add some organic cayenne pepper to speed up metabolism and further increase digestive enzyme production.Drink every morning to enjoy the health benefits listed above.

Why should I drink this in the morning?

As I mentioned above, warm lemon water improves digestion, which is great when you wake up. It also moisturizes your body after sleep (we lose so much fluid from just breathing when we sleep!). Start your day with ready-to-eat hydrated digestive enzymes is a great way to improve your health. You can also drink this any time of the day for additional benefits.

A little warning: since lemon water is acidic, remember about tooth enamel. Every morning or once a day is great. If you drink it more often, you can rinse your mouth out with plain water or brush your teeth so that the lemon juice doesn’t just sit on your teeth all day.

How To Make Lemon Water (Because You May Be Doing It Wrong)

Lemon Water is healthy, refreshing and easy to make. There are a few key points to keep in mind when preparing a glass, but don’t worry, after the first sip you will be hooked and these simple steps will forever remain in your lemon-loving brain.

    How to make lemon water

If it sounds like it’s super-intuitive, it’s because it is. But here’s how to make the absolute best lemon water to take full advantage of all the health benefits.

    Step 1. Juice lemon

Take a fresh lemon and give it some. (Roll it onto a cutting board if you need to break it a little.)

Avoid lemons that are too hard because they are probably not ripe enough to release all the healthy juices.Psst: Stay away from grocery store lemon juice containers as they are usually filled with preservatives and other additives.

Cut a lemon in half and squeeze it all into a bowl so you can pry out the seeds when finished. (Or use a lemon juicer.) Pour the juice into a 16 oz water bottle.

Water Bottle: Lifefactory 16oz BPA Free Glass Water Bottle ($ 20 at Amazon)

Step 2: Use water at room temperature

The water temperature here is , mostly , so if you are using water from the refrigerator, put it in a microwave-safe glass and extinguish with a nuclear bomb for five to ten seconds to warm up to room temperature. No microwave? Heat the kettle and let it cool before pouring.

Why is this important? Temperature can change the molecular structure of lemon juice and jeopardize the benefits you would otherwise receive. According to nutritionist Wendy Leonard, room temperature water helps “ensure better absorption and utilization of phytonutrients and vitamins.” This is room temperature!

Step 3. Mix the juice with water

Pour lemon juice into a bottle and fill with water at room temperature, sufficient to fill the bottle.Close the lid, shake, drink and enjoy all day.

The health benefits of lemon water

    1. It starts your digestive system.

Drinking warm lemon water stimulates the gastrointestinal tract to help your body absorb nutrients more easily and pass food through the body more easily. Lemon juice also helps with heartburn and bloating.

    2. It can help you lose weight.

Lemons contain pectin, a fiber that helps you lose weight by suppressing food cravings. Drink this mixture between meals and you may use the vending machine less often.

    3. Boosts your immune system.

Hello, vitamin C. Always useful for fighting disease. Keep in mind that your natural levels tend to decrease when you are under stress, which increases the likelihood of getting sick, so it is advised to increase your intake during particularly frantic times.

“One lemon contains about half the RDA for vitamin C, a natural antioxidant,” says Leonard.

    4. Improves your skin.

Vitamin C is also important for the skin as it plays an important role in the synthesis of collagen (which increases the elasticity of the skin) and repairs damaged cells. In addition, warm lemon water has astringent properties that can help heal acne and even acne scars of the past.

“Lemons also contain phytonutrients – what gives them their characteristic yellow color – that contribute to healthy skin,” says Leonard.

    5. Reduces inflammation.

If you have ever experienced painful joints, you may have a build-up of uric acid. Warm water with lemon dissolves it just like that.

    Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

Do you know what causes automatic eye rolling in writers like me? Claims about the miraculous benefits of certain foods or ingredients – especially when it was something that was in your great-great-grandmother’s fridge, when they called it an ice box, and only rich people had them.

Look, I get it: we would all like to discover a simple, natural, inexpensive and not exactly disgusting ingredient that will make us energetic, slim, radiant, spicy and able to get rid of a bad mood in a single bite.

But by default, when I talk about something like , the benefits of lemon water I think: If lemon water was that great, people reading about health for life would hear about it somewhere other than social networks .Especially if you have genetically stunning and already healthy looking celebrities like Gisele Bündchen, Lauren Konrad and Miranda Kerr amplifying the signal.

It turns out that this is the case when there are real science-based reasons to consider making this sip a part of your daily life. “I’m the first to break the nutritional myths, but as annoying as rumors about lemon water are, they certainly have some benefits,” says nutritionist Lauren Slayton, M.D., MD, founder of Foodtrainers in New York…. “I spend most of my day discouraging people from trying semi-hazardous supplements and avoiding processed crappy ingredients. So come on, let’s take a break from lemon water.

Before we get to the question of why you might want to drink lemon water, let’s define our terms. We’re not talking about one floating spa that makes drinking water prettier and a little less boring. “When we talk about the benefits of lemon water, I mean the juice of ½ or more of a lemon in the water,” says Slayton, who loves this lemon and lime grinder to help her get the right amount. She also notes that you need to consume natural lemons. “We need water with lemon, not water with pesticides, especially if you let the lemon float in the water.”

One caveat: Lemon water is safe, but you should also drink plenty of plain water, according to the American Dental Association, because the acid in lemon and other citrus fruits can erode tooth enamel over time.

Benefits of drinking water with lemon

    • First, there is water. Almost 44% of women drink less than 4 cups a day, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although how much you need depends on many things, like how hot and how much exercise you do, many people walk around dehydrated, which can make you dizzy, confused, and headaches. You can get fluid through juicy foods and other beverages, according to the CDC, but a low-sugar option like lemon water is a smart move.“Rehydrating in the morning after sleep is a good habit,” says Slayton.
    • It can blunt your sweet tooth. Lemon water is acidic and the rind is bitter. “Bitter foods are one of the tools to control sugar cravings,” says Slayton. Sure, this research was done on fruit flies, but there is no shortage of trying it yourself, especially if you like the taste.
    • It contains useful chemistry . These include antioxidants and flavonoids, which can protect your cells from damage and help reduce inflammation.”Many of these compounds are found in the peel, so you need to add a little zest to the lemon water,” says Slayton. In particular, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, and although there is not much of it in the juice of half a lemon, water with lemon increases its intake.
    • For some it helps with constipation. Slayton recommends using warm lemon water if this is your main concern.
    • If you are prone to kidney stones, lemon water is your friend. These incredibly painful crystals form in your kidneys when substances (calcium, uric acid, and oxalate) become concentrated, and drinking lemon water (with the juice of two lemons a day) can help prevent stones from forming.
    • May help your skin. While the amount of vitamin C in lemons alone will not make you look forever young and blemish-free, the antioxidant protects against sun exposure, which means it helps prevent wrinkles and discoloration. It is also involved in collagen synthesis. Collagen is a protein in your skin that keeps it firm.
    • May help lower blood sugar. There is some research that has shown that lemon juice slows down the digestion of starch in a laboratory setting, suggesting that it may be doing the same to real people in real life. This could potentially blunt the blood sugar response, reducing the likelihood that you will accumulate excess blood sugar as fat (this mouse study gets to that point, and no, we’re not just giant mice, but since lemon water has won out) I won’t hurt you, it won’t hurt.In addition, “the better controlled blood sugar levels, the better and more stable our energy,” says Slayton.

Bottom Line: Drinking lemon water is a small plus you can easily make. “It won’t make you a healthy person by itself, but it’s a good and safe habit,” says Slayon. “Often times healthy gives birth to healthy and can open the way for other positive changes.”

I recently started drinking warm lemon water in the morning.

Health Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

      • Vitamins: Lemons contain a lot of vitamin C, which strengthens your immune system.
      • Detox: Lemon water aids digestion, detoxifies and cleanses the liver.
      • Joint Health: Helps relieve knee and joint pain.

Read more about all the benefits here. To get the most out of hot lemon water, you should do this in the morning. And it should be warm.

Is lemon water good for you?

I do not think that drinking water with lemon is a cure for everything, but I still think that water with lemon is very powerful. Like kombucha, borscht, or light vegetable soup. So, while I don’t think lemon water is a “miracle pill,” warm lemon water in the morning has certain health benefits.

Final Verdict: Lemon water is just good. You likely won’t eat half a lemon every day, so adding it to your water is a great alternative.

      Which lemons are the best?

      • “Regular” lemons: Yellow and oblong lemons. Known as Eureka, Avalon or Bearss, this is a “regular” lemon sold in most supermarkets in the US and Canada.
      • Organic Lemons: Growing without the use of chemicals or pesticides, organic lemons are the best lemons in terms of health benefits due to their peel, rind and juice.
      • Not Meyer’s lemon: Meyer’s lemon is not a real lemon, but rather a hybrid of lemon and orange. It is sweeter and is often used in baked goods.
      • Bottled Lemon Juice: Bottled Lemon Juice contains preservatives and leaves little or no health benefit.

      How to Make Lemon Water

      • Squeeze the lemon juice into a glass. Both the manual lemon reamer and glass lemon juicers work well. This is a matter of personal preference; the only difference is that the glass catches the seeds.
      • Add warm water. To make the water warm, I mix boiling water with cold filtered water. Another option is to turn off the kettle before the water boils (you just have to wait at the kettle).
      • Stir and enjoy: Spoon and drink while warm.

Tips for preventing tooth enamel damage

A reader pointed out to me that water with lemon (such as water with lime, grapefruit, and apple cider) can damage tooth enamel over time.Dr. Sarah Solomon gives us 5 tips to prevent tooth damage without giving up your morning ritual:

      • Dilute lemon juice in 8 ounces of water: I would make 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons boiling water + the rest cold water.
      • Straw: Drink lemon water through a straw.
      • Rinse: Rinse your mouth immediately after drinking lemon water.
      • Postpone brushing: Do not brush your teeth for 60 minutes afterwards.
      • Best Toothbrush: Use a soft toothbrush and avoid harsh brushing.

10 Benefits of Drinking Warm Lemon Water Every Morning

Something that was very important to my body during this 7 day spring cleanse, but also part of my daily routine for several months, was drinking warm lemon water.I started (almost) every day with a glass of warm lemon water and it has changed me a lot. Warm lemon water in the morning helps speed up the digestion process throughout the day. According to Ayurvedic philosophy, the choices you make about your daily routine either increase your resistance to disease or destroy it. Ayurveda invites us to start the day by focusing on morning rituals that work to align the body with the rhythms of nature, balance the doshas, and strengthen self-esteem along with self-discipline.

Lemons have many health benefits that have been known for centuries, the two largest being the strong antibacterial, antiviral and immunostimulant properties of lemons and their use as a weight loss aid as lemon juice aids digestion and detoxifies the liver. Lemons contain many substances, especially citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin and limonene, which help to strengthen the immune system and fight infections.

      HOW TO DO IT:

You should use purified water, it should be warm, but not too hot. You should avoid ice water as your body can process a lot of it and it takes more energy to process ice water than warm water. Always use fresh lemons, organic whenever possible, never bottle lemon juice. I squeeze 1/2 lemon out of each glass and drink it first before I eat one thing, or workout, etc.D.

BONUS: Try adding grated ginger or some cayenne pepper for added strength.

10 benefits of drinking warm lemon water every morning

      1) Aids in digestion. Lemon juice removes unwanted substances and toxins from the body. Atomic composition, it is similar to the saliva and hydrochloric acid of digestive juices. It encourages the liver to produce bile, which is an acid necessary for digestion.Lemons are also rich in minerals and vitamins and help flush out ama or toxins in the digestive tract. The digestive properties of lemon juice help relieve symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, belching, and bloating. The American Cancer Society actually recommends offering warm lemon water to cancer patients to stimulate bowel movements.

      2) Cleans your system / diuretic. Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted substances in part because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body. Therefore, toxins are released more quickly, which helps maintain a healthy urinary tract. The citric acid in lemons helps maximize enzyme function, which stimulates liver function and promotes detoxification.

      3) Boosts your immune system. Lemons are rich in vitamin C, which is excellent for colds, and high in potassium, which stimulates the brain and nerves. Potassium also helps control blood pressure. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) found in lemons is anti-inflammatory and is used as additional support for asthma and other respiratory symptoms, and enhances the absorption of iron in the body; iron plays an important role in immune function.Lemons also contain saponins, which have antimicrobial properties that can help prevent colds and flu. Lemons also reduce the amount of mucus produced by the body.

      4) Balances pH levels . Lemons are one of the most alkalizing foods for the body. Of course, they are acidic by themselves, but inside our body they are alkaline (citric acid does not create acidity in the body after metabolism). Lemons contain both citric and ascorbic acid, weak acids that are easily absorbed by the body, and the minerals in lemons help alkalize the blood.Disease states only occur when the pH of the body is acidic. Regular drinking of lemon water can help reduce overall acidity in the body, including uric acid in the joints, which is one of the main causes of pain and inflammation.

      5) Clears the skin. Vitamin C and other antioxidants help reduce wrinkles and blemishes and help fight free radical damage. Vitamin C is vital for healthy, glowing skin, and its alkaline nature kills some types of acne-causing bacteria. It can be applied directly to scars or age spots to reduce their appearance. Since lemon water flushes toxins from the blood, it will also help protect your skin from imperfections from the inside. Vitamin C, found in lemon, rejuvenates the skin inside your body.

      6) Invigorates and improves mood. The energy that a person receives from food comes from the atoms and molecules in your food. A reaction occurs when positively charged ions from food enter the digestive tract and interact with negatively charged enzymes.Lemon is one of the few foods that contains more negatively charged ions, providing your body with more energy when it enters the digestive tract. The scent of lemon also improves mood and energizes. The scent of lemon juice is uplifting and helps clear the mind. Lemon also helps reduce anxiety and depression.

      7) Promotes healing. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), found in abundance in lemons, promotes wound healing and is an essential nutrient for maintaining healthy bones, connective tissue and cartilage. As noted earlier, vitamin C also has anti-inflammatory properties. Collectively, vitamin C is an essential nutrient for maintaining good health and recovering from stress and injury.

      8) Refreshes breath. In addition to fresher breath, lemons are known to help relieve toothaches and gingivitis. Remember that citric acid can destroy tooth enamel, so you need to keep this in mind. No, don’t brush your teeth immediately after drinking lemon water. It is best to brush your teeth first and then drink lemon water or wait a significant amount of time to brush your teeth. Alternatively, you can rinse your mouth with purified water after you finish drinking lemon water.

      9) Moisturizes your lymphatic system. Warm water and lemon juice support the immune system by hydrating and replenishing the body’s fluid loss. When your body is deprived of water, you can definitely feel side effects, which include: feeling tired, lethargic, decreased immune function, constipation, lack of energy, low / high blood pressure, lack of sleep, lack of mental clarity and feeling stressed, to name just a few of them.

      10) Weight loss aid. Lemons are rich in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger. Studies have shown that people who follow a more alkaline diet do lose weight faster. Personally, I find myself making the best choice throughout the day if I start my day off the right way by making a conscious health choice – drinking warm lemon water every morning first.

Do you drink warm lemon water every morning? What are your favorite benefits?

I always peel my lemons before juicing them for my daily warm lemon water.I keep the container in the freezer and keep adding to it. Great for pasta dishes, salad dressings, etc.

I drank lemon water every morning and my skin feels great

Drinking lemon water in the morning was touted as a miracle. Some swear it improves their skin condition and improves overall health.

This drink has been reported to provide health benefits, from clearing acne to boosting your immune system with vitamin C, which helps fight colds and flu.

To test if these claims are substantiated, I decided to try the lemon water test, which consisted of drinking a glass of lemon water every morning right after waking up for a week.

Objective: Drink a glass of lemon water every morning for a week
Drinking lemon water is one way to get vitamin C and increase your hydration levels.

The process was simple, every morning before work, somewhere between 8:00.m. and at 9 am I mixed eight ounces of water with the juice of half a lemon.

Some recipes I found on the Internet suggested that the water be warm, but that made it not very tasty, so I gave it up.

Much to my surprise, I actually saw the results.

After completing my weekly experiment with lemon water, I noticed that my skin was almost flawless: no breakouts, no extra oils, no new blemishes. I also found my skin to be much softer to the touch and much brighter.

Essentially, drinking lemon juice created a natural glow on my face.

A few days after I stopped drinking lemon water every morning, I found that some of the acne was starting to come back. It seems to me that lemon water really helps to improve the complexion.

I also found that lemon water helped me with my oral health.

I am cursed with bad breath, so the morning has always been a particularly difficult time for me.

However, I soon discovered that lemon water improved this. The citric acid of the fruit seemed to help break down and fight bacteria in the mouth.

At the end of the week, I also found that I had a lot less bloating. Some research suggests that lemon water may act as a natural diuretic (something that helps rid the body of excess fluids), which may explain this.

Conclusion: This challenge has improved my skin, but other health benefits are difficult to identify

It is difficult to say if drinking lemon water brought real or long-term health benefits.Gianluca Russo

Apart from improving complexion, freshening breath and reducing bloating, I have not noticed any other health benefits.

I haven’t gotten sick this week, so the lemon water may have boosted my immune system or helped my internal organs, but both would be rather difficult to determine from this short trial.

On the other hand, I noticed one negative effect of drinking lemon water. Every day I found that in the morning I was more thirsty, and if I did not quench this thirst, a strange aftertaste remained in my mouth.

Overall, I would definitely consider adding lemon or infused water to my daily routine. The benefits for my skin were undeniable, and while I may have been very thirsty, there is nothing wrong with staying very hydrated.
