Dermatologists Skincare Advice for Teens — Best Skincare Tips for Teens

Imagine how awesome it would be to have a dermatologist for a parent—someone you could talk to or text, day or night, about all things skin. Well, it turns out, derms’ kids are no different than anyone else when on the receiving end of advice from their parents: “My daughter’s eyes kind of glazed over the first time I started telling her what to do about her acne; I had to remind her that people pay me for my opinion,” laughs Peterson Pierre, M.D., a dermatologist in Thousand Oaks, California who has a daughter, 20, and son, 18. “But once she got that the advice was coming from a dermatologist, not ‘dad,’ she started following it.”

To give you the best of both worlds—the expert, insider advice without the parental opinion or commentary baked-in—we asked four skin gurus-slash-guardians about the most important wisdom they’ve handed down to their teens and 20-somethings.

1. Wash your face every. single. night.

Do not go to bed with a dirty face! Period. “It doesn’t matter if you didn’t wear a stitch of makeup; your skin needs to be cleaned of all the impurities it encounters during the day,” says Deanne Mraz Robinson, M.D., a derm in Westport, Connecticut with four kids. Otherwise, the dirt and bacteria, along with excess oil can cause breakouts.

Each derm we talked to gave different advice for what kind of cleanser to use. Dr. Pierre told his daughter to use a plain, gentle cleanser for her sensitive skin since acne-fighting ingredients can be irritating if overused. (He’d rather she reserve ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for more targeted leave-on products.)

Sonic cleaning brushes are another option for sensitive skin. “They came out when my daughter was 13 and let her exfoliate her delicate skin well without harsh acids,” says Debra Jaliman, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City.

However for her acne-prone teens, Leslie Baumann, M. D., a derm in Miami, said salicylic acid cleansers were the right choice. “They didn’t like putting a lot of stuff on their faces, so this helped keep their pores clear,” she says. Another key tip: “In the shower, wash your face after rinsing off hair conditioner, since its ingredients can cause acne.”

2. Moisturizer is super important. Yes, even for oily and acne-prone skin.

“The more moisture you give skin, the less it makes on its own,” explains Dr. Mraz Robinson. “Moisturizing actually helps [oily] skin self-regulate.” All our parent-derms recommend choosing oil-free, non-comedogenic lotions or creams formulated with ingredients that strengthen or repair skin’s barrier function—namely ceramides and niacinamide, which you’ll see on ingredients lists.

3. Be smart about how you use acne treatments

There are a lot of different ingredients that effectively clear and prevent breakouts. One reason they work so well: They’re strong, and if you’re not careful and smart, they’ll leave skin even more red and irritated than pimples can, Dr. Pierre says. “The more irritation, the less you’ll want to use the treatment, so you’ll just be back at square one with your acne.” Here’s how to safeguard skin:

If you use Rx topicals

Dr. Baumann recommends starting up with a barrier-repair moisturizer prior to beginning use of a prescription acne treatment. The stronger your skin’s barrier function is, the less likely it is to be irritated by potent ingredients. When you do get the Rx, start sloooooowwww so skin can gradually get used to it. “Use only 1/8 teaspoon at night and wait three days. If skin doesn’t get red, apply it every third night for two weeks,” she says. “If skin tolerates that, move up to every other night. After two weeks and no redness, apply every night.”

If you use OTC retinol

Dr. Pierre recommended over-the-counter retinol for his kids’ mild acne because it’s anti-inflammatory (and therefore cuts down on zits’ redness), reduces oil production, helps refine pores and banishes blackheads and whiteheads. As with Rx treatments, start retinol slowly, applying only every few nights to start. “And apply moisturizer on top to deal with dryness,” he says.

If you use benzoyl peroxide

Although a killer acne-fighter (literally—it kills the bacteria that cause zits), BP can leave skin extra dry and it can bleach your clothes. So Dr. Pierre made sure his kids knew to get dressed before applying. Dr. Baumann also suggests that if your skin gets red or dry after using BP, apply barrier-repair moisturizer first. That gives skin a buffer, helping it better tolerate the treatment.

4. Do not sleep on acne bacteria

“Acne bacteria [spawns] baby bacteria every 12 hours, so using treatments once a day at night is not enough,” Dr. Baumann says. Because the ingredients can be irritating, however, many are too strong to double up on. She recommends using your big guns (i.e. an Rx, retinoid or BP) at night, then the next day, around mid-morning, a milder OTC treatment. Her fave: a salicylic acid spray with colloidal silver, which lowers the pH of skin and makes it less hospitable to bacteria.

5. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen—for everyone and every skin tone

Every day, rain or shine, clouds or sun, whether you’re going to school, to run errands, to play sports or to the beach or park. “My kids have known this since preschool; I’ve scared them straight with stories from my youth [of getting burned] and with the cases of skin cancer I see at work every day,” Dr. Mraz Robinson says. “So applying SPF 30+ is part of the morning routine for our entire family.”

SPF is important not only for preventing skin cancer, but also wrinkles and other signs of aging that will come to haunt you years down the road if you skimp now. And if you think you don’t need it because your skin’s melanin will protect you, listen to Dr. (Dad) Pierre: “My kids are black, and there’s this misconception that skin of color doesn’t need sun protection. While melanin does provide some inherent protection, it is not 100 percent—you still need sunscreen,” he says. “Plus, skin of color is prone to discoloration, and dark spots will get darker when exposed to the sun if you don’t wear protection.”

Both Drs. Pierre and Mraz Robinson recommend mineral-based products (look for zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide on ingredient lists). “They do the best job blocking out UV radiation, they’re mineral-based and so won’t irritate skin, and you can find really good zinc-based products that rub in completely and don’t leave any white residue behind,” Dr. Pierre says.

6. Treat mild rashes with cortisone and moisturizer

“My daughter would get little rashes occasionally due to stress, a product reaction or changes in weather,” Dr. Pierre says. “Cortisone deals with the inflammation and redness, but it works better if you put moisturizer on top.” The moisturizer helps prevent moisture loss from skin, which exacerbates the reaction, he explains.

7. Keep your hands off zits

“I always say, ‘Don’t touch it, let me get it!” Dr. Mraz Robinson says. But if you don’t have a professional pimple-popper living with you, she’s a big fan of wearing pimple patches with “micro-darts” and salicylic acid to help drain whiteheads, clear out the clogged pore and reduce redness.

8. Do your best to pick up healthy-skin habits now

“The habits you develop when you’re younger are the ones you keep throughout your life,” says Dr. Jaliman, who has seen it firsthand with her now 29-year-old daughter. The two most derm-advised habits to make a forever part of your routine: nightly cleansing and morning sunscreen.

8 Best Skincare Products for Teenage Skin

It is nearly impossible to get through the teen years without suffering from acne. Regardless of if your case is mild or severe, choosing the best skincare for teenage skin can go a long way in your quest for the perfect skin.

Here is everything you need to know to achieve the perfect complexion, and the best products to help you get there.

How to Take Care of Teenage Skin

While the teenage years bring about a host of skincare challenges, equipping yourself with the knowledge and tools to fight the acne battle head-on will help in your clear skin endeavors. Following this five-step process will put on the path to a radiant complexion:

1. Cleanse – The cardinal rule of proper skincare at all stages of life is to follow a thorough cleansing routine. A well formulated cleanser will deliver the best results in the fight against blemishes. You should aim to wash your face twice per day. It is especially important to follow a good cleansing routine if you wear makeup.

2. Exfoliate – Now is a good time to get in the habit of using an exfoliating product. There is a myriad of exfoliants on the market. The key to clear skin success is to choose the right product for your specific skin type. An exfoliant works by stripping away dead skin cells to reveal a fresher layer of skin in its wake. This process will prevent pores from becoming clogged. Exfoliating is a preventative measure that will deter teenage acne from taking hold.

3. Use Spot Treatment – Despite your best intentions with preventative treatments, it is inevitable that you will experience breakouts as a teenager. When this happens, you will want to go straight to the proven spot treatments in order to reduce the inflammation and redness. As the most common spot treatment available, benzoyl peroxide is often cited as one of the best acne treatments for teens.

4. Moisturize – Although it may seem counter-intuitive to slater more products on your face, a good moisturizing treatment will prevent your skin from becoming dry and irritated. This is especially important when looking to combat the drying effects of many acne treatments.

5. Sunscreen – Especially if you are outdoors playing sports, it is vital that you wear daily sunscreen. Be sure to choose a broad-based sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 for the most thorough protection.

What About Natural Skincare for Teenage Skin?

While the green movement has a lot of practical benefits, choosing to go natural with your skincare products is not in the best interest of your overall skin health. Natural skin care products might be the rage in some circles but they are gimmicks with no support by science. In fact, most natural and organic skincare products may do more harm than good.

Because these natural products often contain an overload of essential oils and other harmful substances, they can cause more damage to your skin than the proven treatments. Lastly, these labels can also be misleading because the industry has so little regulation.

Additional Teenage Skincare Tips

Skincare Product Tips

  1. Choose the Right Skincare Products: It is impossible to overstate the importance of choosing the right skincare products. It is important to understand that every skin type is unique, and finding the best skincare for teenage skin is easy once you understand your skin type.
  2. Cleanse Regularly: The cornerstone of a clear complexion is regular cleansings. All of the products and treatments in the world will not make a difference if you do not commit to a consistent cleansing routine.
  3. Don’t Sleep With Makeup: We have all had days where we just want to fall into bed. Sleeping with makeup still on is one of the worst things that you can do for your complexion. Although it is no substitute for a quality cleanser, a pre-moistened makeup wipe can work in a pinch. It is also important to not share makeup. Sharing makeup products means that you are also sharing the germs that grow on the cosmetics as well as the applicators.

Other Tips

  1. Change Your Pillowcase Regularly: Even with the best cleansing routine, it is possible for hair products and leftover makeup to leave a residue on your pillowcase. These impurities will seep into your skin while you are sleeping and clog pores and lead to breakouts. Changing your pillowcase regularly will help to mitigate this problem.
  2. Keep Your Phone Case Clean: A smartphone screen and case can harbor a ton of germs and bacteria. These impurities transfer to your skin every time that you hold the phone to your ear. Wiping the phone down with an antibacterial wipe on a regular base will keep this grime away from your skin.
  3. Don’t Pick Your Skin: While it is tempting to pick at your skin in an effort to remove the pimples, this will only make the problem worse. Your fingertips are home to a host of dirt, bacteria, and other impurities that transfer to your face every time that you touch it. Making a commitment to keeping your fingers off of your face will prevent the introduction of new bacteria to the surface of your skin.
  4. Be Mindful of Haircare Products: While makeup has the worst reputation of being a culprit for acne, you also need to be mindful of the haircare products that you use. Waxes and gels are particularly likely to lead to blemishes because of the acne-causing ingredients. Long bangs can be a problem if they are not kept off of the forehead since this region of the face is susceptible to frequent breakouts. Keeping your hair pulled back, especially when sweating, will help to prevent the problematic hair care products from seeping into the skin and wrecking your complexion.
  5. Get Enough Sleep: Lack of sleep can cause acne. Not getting enough sleep may exacerbate existing skin conditions because of the increased inflammatory response due to elevated levels of cortisol. You should aim to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night for maximum skin health.

Summary: Best Skincare Products for Teenage Skin

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that you cannot fight nature and the power of puberty.

Additionally, teenage skin requires special attention. Therefore finding the best skincare products for teenage skin is essential.

However, with the proper attention to your skin care regimen and the right products, you can work to fight against frequent acne breakouts.

Making the effort now will result in less blemished and scarred skin as you age, making it worth the investment of your time and money.

Best teenage skincare product 2021: For oily, dry and combination skin

It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin. With ever-changing hormones doing their worst, teens suddenly have to contend with blackheads, breakouts and oiliness so it’s a good time for them to embrace a simple, targeted skincare routine they’ll want to stick with.

Anything too harsh or rich is a no-go for teens. Instead, hero products include gentle cleansers they should use every day even when not wearing make-up and lightweight moisturisers that will repair the skin’s barrier without overloading it.

Other useful products – particularly for older teens – include masks, exfoliators or sonic brushes, Vitamin C treatments to protect skin and micellar water to encourage them to always, always, remove make-up before bed.

Acne products can be very useful for some teenagers but should always be used cautiously as they are strong and can cause redness and irritation. Anyone with concerns about severe acne should consult a dermatologist before using any product.

How we tested

We asked a group of teens, between the ages of 13 and 17, to try a vast range of products to find their favourites. All were immediately drawn to those packaged with obvious teen-appeal and they were especially keen to try any product they had previously seen on TikTok or Instagram.

Read more:

They were also excited to supplement their top products with extras to boost results and were particular fans of This Is Silk’s one-sided silk pillowcase (£25.99, Thisissilk.com) to soothe sensitive skin and encourage hair growth. Those keen to ditch disposable wipes and cotton pads also loved the Ramer cleansing shammy (£4.99, Ramersponges.com) for applying their favourite products.

But, in terms of cultivating a decent skincare routine, these are the products that came out on top…

Bioderma sebium h3O micellar water, 250ml

Best: For makeup removal

Rating: 8/10

Teach your teen to take their make-up off every night, no matter how exhausted they are, and you’ll be giving them a shot at decent skin for life. Micellar water makes the process as quick and easy as possible and is particularly good for delicate teen skin that harsher products can dry out.

This cult French version is perfect for oily, combination and acne-prone skin, controlling sebum quality and removing impurities to keep budding spots at bay. Soak a (biodegradable) cotton pad in the silky-feeling water and wipe it over the face to whip away every last trace of dirt – our tester found it worked a treat even on waterproof mascara. There’s no need to rinse or even moisturise afterwards so is ideal before your teen falls into bed after a late night.

If they can face one extra step, we also loved Bioderma’s sebium lotion (£11, Naos-store.co.uk) which regulates sebum production and skin’s pH, tightens pores and hydrates for eight hours.

Workout day nutrition and defence natural moisturiser, 50ml

Best: For older teens

Rating: 9/10

Aimed at ages 16-35, this smart skincare brand hopes to convert people to a minimalist routine that prevents them from over-washing and weakening their skin. They believe everyone can achieve strong, balanced skin with just three all-vegan products: the warm-up conditioning cream cleanser (£19.50, Gymforyourskin.co.uk), this workout daily moisturiser and rest, an overnight recovery moisturiser (£39, Gymforyourskin.co.uk).

They also offer booster serums for when your skin needs a little extra help to tackle breakouts, sensitivity, redness, sun damage and large pores. The products can also be used individually if preferred although the effect is better together.

Our testers especially loved this silky-smooth moisturiser, which smells like it’s straight from a spa, sinks in immediately and help skin feel soft and balanced. They all loved the sleek, stylish packaging too, although all wished it was a little more affordable. Still, it’s one product we’d be happy to treat our teens to – if only so we could pinch it once in a while.

Florence by mills low-key calming peel off face mask, 50ml

Best: For younger teens

Rating: 8/10

This was the range almost all our teens were most excited to try. Named after Brown’s great-grandmother, the products are easy to use, gentle and suitable for all skin types, packed with teen-friendly vitamins and antioxidants.

This peel-off mask stood out thanks to its shimmery rose-gold appearance and major glow-giving qualities. It includes witch hazel to cleanse pores and balance skin, chamomile extract to soothe redness and water lily extract to calm the most stressed-out skin. Lyonsleaf beauty balm, 60ml

Best: Natural product

Rating: 7/10

Even the most low-maintenance teen will love this one-pot wonder, which cleanses, exfoliates, moisturises and protects without a bathroom cabinet full of separate products. It’s 100 per cent natural and handmade in the UK with home-grown herbs using minimal plastic, no preservatives, no artificial chemicals, fragrance or colour. The water-free, vegan formula means a little goes a long way so this tiny jar will last and last and it’s suitable for all skin types including sensitive and problem skin.

Our testers with oily skin were nervous about using a greasy-looking balm on their skin but all were converted and were surprised how well it worked, even to remove makeup and reduce shine. It’s easy for even the laziest teen to use too. Massage into dry skin, run a dry flannel under comfortably hot water and wipe away. There’s no need for a separate moisturiser, so there’s no excuse for hogging the bathroom longer than necessary either.

Salcura antiac acne clearing active liquid spray, 100ml

Best: For acne

Rating: 9/10

While it can be tempting to tackle acne with the strongest product possible, it generally doesn’t do skin any favours. Our acne-prone testers considered several ranges targeted at problem skin but felt this was by far the most effective and didn’t cause any redness or dryness like some others.

There are various products according to how severe their acne is, though the daily wash (£11.99, Salcuraskincare.com) worked well to keep skin clear and reduce slight blemishing. However, this liquid spray was the real must-buy for tackling flare-ups, yet only uses natural ingredients including aloe vera, calendula, chamomile and lavender. These reduce inflammation, calm skin and clear infection and impurities without stripping sensitive teenage skin. Simply spray it on and wipe away with a cotton pad. If symptoms are severe, spray it on again and let it sink in or gently massage in (with clean hands).

One tester even used it on his back and was wowed by the results, which were noticeable within just one week. Our one gripe is that it does smell quite strongly – though not unpleasantly so – of eucalyptus so may be best used at night.

Ecooking clay mask, 100ml

Best: Gender neutral range

Rating: 8/10

If pretty packaging and unnecessary fuss make your teenager want to crawl under their duvet and hibernate, this results-driven range from one of Denmark’s fastest-growing skincare brands is suitably streamlined. Products including a cleansing gel, micellar water and an acne serum come in simple, gender-neutral packaging anyone would be happy to keep on a bathroom shelf. None have unnecessary outer packaging and all are made with 100 per cent organic oils and the highest quality natural peptides and vitamins. In fact, several products are so pure, they’re even safe to eat.

The clay mask was a particular favourite with our testers with oilier skin as the iris extract, zinc salt and vitamin A help reduce redness and the sebum production responsible for oils. Some weren’t keen on the way it dries on the skin as it felt uncomfortably tight, but most felt there was a visible reduction in pore size after using this mask and loved how baby soft their skin felt afterwards.

Mallows coconut mud mask, 10g

Best: British brand

Rating: 7/10

Skincare doesn’t have to be boring. This fun, brightly-coloured range is cruelty-free, all vegan or vegetarian and made in the UK, so you know you’re not racking up air miles to look good. The company also believes in empowering young people rather than focusing on quick fixes and insecurities and donates 5 per cent of profits to mental health charities.

The whole range is brilliantly feel-good, with bath bombs, stick on nails and body scrubs ideal for a self-care Sunday. Our younger teen testers loved Mallows’ eye-catching packaging emblazoned with positive affirmations. They especially liked the range of scented face masks and this coconut version left their skin glowing, while the packaging advised them to pop on Netflix while it worked its magic. The handy single-use sachet size makes it great for a teen birthday pampering session with friends too.

Bye Bye Blemish vitamin C exfoliating gel, 118ml

Best: For all skin types

Rating: 8/10

Harsh exfoliation spells disaster for delicate teenage skin, yet this gentle gel is a great way to remove dead skin cells and impurities that can clog pores and lead to blemishes. Massage on to freshly cleansed, dry skin and papaya enzymes get to work as a natural exfoliating agent, while lemon enzymes balance the skin’s surface and vitamin C evens skin tone. Rinse off with lukewarm water to reveal smoother, brighter skin that all our teens were impressed by. They all also liked the easy pump dispenser and the fact they could easily add it into a skincare routine once or twice a week with minimum hassle and visible results.

Tolpa sebio 3-enzymes face scrub, 40ml

Best: New product

Rating: 8/10

This miracle-working face scrub may be a new name in British skincare but it’s already the number one beauty brand in Poland, selling one product every 60 seconds. It’s become a cult favourite with teens there thanks to gob-smacking before and after images and this scrub is its stand-out star, selling more than 4.5 million tubes last year alone. It then immediately sold out when it hit UK shelves in July.

Packed with natural ingredients including tolpa peat (a multi-plant antioxidant), papain from papaya and bromelain from pineapple, it claims to work as a face peel without any harsh particles or AHA acids. Instead, it’s applied to the skin and left for ten minutes before being massaged in and rinsed. It’s suitable for sensitive, combination and oily skin and drastically reduces sebum production and blocked pores.

Our testers felt they could see a difference after just one use and were particularly chuffed at the effect on their pesky blackheads. Although, one disliked the scrub’s tingling effect so it’s a good idea to test it on a small area first.

Bad habit chill out adaptogen hydrating mist, 100ml

Best: TikTok sensation

Rating: 8/10

If your teen can’t tear themselves away from TikTok, they’ll already know all about the cult Bad Habit skincare collection from influencer Emma Chamberlain. The products are vegan and cruelty free, contain no nasties like parabens and mineral oil and target specific problems such as dull skin, dehydration and too much screen time.

The range includes daily cleansers and moisturisers but we especially loved the targeted quick-fix treatments like this refreshing mist which works with all skin types and claims to be “a meditation moment in a bottle”. It contains soothing aloe vera and hyaluronic acid for instant hydration plus mandarin and clary sage essential oils to relieve stress so it’s a treat for the mind as well as the skin. Simply spritz on over or under makeup, take a deep breath and get on with your day. Our testers loved using it to perk up their skin and were particularly keen on a quick spray in the morning to help them look awake even when they still wanted to be in bed.

Best Natural Skincare for Teenage Girls

With a teenager daughter I’m often asked what natural skincare I buy her.

Having just turned 50 (!), my personal skin challenges are around ageing and dehydration, whereas when I was a teenager it was all related to puberty, hormone imbalances and haywire skin! Teen skin issues are mostly centred around oily skin due to overactive oil glands, which can cause blocked pores resulting in breakouts and blackheads.

At this age they also can shed too many dead skin cells which which can also clog pores and lead to blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. Then there’s the issue of bacteria getting caught inside the pores causing inflammation, redness and irritation, basically the start of acne.

It’s easy to see why it’s important for our teens to get into a good skin care routine!

Using natural products becomes even more important because young skin is still sensitive and delicate. At the very least, I recommend a daily cleanser and moisturiser, plus gentle exfoliation once a week. We do love a soothing face mask every 2-3 weeks as well.

Now you know how I feel about any products full of harmful chemicals #nogozone but when we’re talking teens, I enforce this philosophy even more stringently because the last thing we want to do to our kids when they are going through massive changes in their development is bombard their growing bodies with harmful chemicals.

Have a look at this youth-led study looking into personal care products as a source of exposure to potentially endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as phthalates, parabens, triclosan, and benzophenone-3 (BP-3) for adolescent girls.

Below I’ve put together our favourite tried and tested skincare products which my daughter loves and which keeps her health safe. All of these products apply to my teenage son as well but good luck getting him to use them!

You’ll notice that many of the products we choose to use are from Young Living. You need to become a member in order to buy their products. The best products for a teen skincare routine

Feeling a bit lost about putting your first teen skincare routine together? We’re here to help! Learn how to build a simple yet effective regime with our best teenage skincare products.

Know Your Skin Type

Putting together a routine of teenage skincare products right for your skin all begins with identifying your skin type!

This gives you a great starting point to build a routine that suits your skin and treats specific concerns. Using the wrong products and ingredients will hinder, rather than help your skin.

The most common skin types are sensitive, dry, normal, oily, and combination.

You may already know your skin type but if you need a little help figuring it out read our guide here.

Acne, Excessive Oil, and Congestion

One of the big skin complaints about teen skin is excessive oil production which results in congestion and teen acne.

Why is an oily skin problem so common for teens? One word: hormones!

During puberty, your hormone levels surge. This causes your sebaceous glands (oil glands) to enlarge which leads to increased production of oil (sebum) in the skin.

Excess oil mixing with dead cells and other debris on the skin surface can quickly lead to blocked pores causing blackheads, whiteheads, and even cysts.

Hormones aren’t the only culprit for breakouts in your teen years. Genetics can also play a role; if your parents had acne it’s more likely you’ll experience it too. Stress, diet, and lifestyle choices can also contribute to acne flare ups.

AM Routine For Teen Skincare

Cleanse

The most important step in your teen skincare routine is cleansing! Removing the build up that finds its way onto your skin every day (dead cells, makeup, oil, dirt) is key to keeping your complexion clear and fresh.

Stick with a gentle cleanser. Many cleansers targeted towards teenage acne can be very harsh and strip the skin of its natural oils. Stripping the skin only makes oily issues worse as your sebaceous glands are triggered to produce yet more oil to compensate for what’s been lost.

A gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser is the best face wash for teenage skin. Choose a gentle formulation that includes active ingredients to target specific issues, depending on your skin type and concern.

We recommend:

The Uncomplicated Cleanser

The original Uncomplicated Cleanser is gentle and ideal to remove surface products.

If you’re experiencing cystic acne or acne that is inflamed, we recommend a double cleanse in the morning and evening.

The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Anti-Redness (acne prone | double cleanse)

You can opt for The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Anti-Redness for the second cleanse. Containing antibacterial properties, this cleanser is ideal for soothing inflammation and minimising acne flare-ups.

Serum

Containing potent ingredients to target specific skincare concerns, a serum is something you can opt to include in your teen skincare routine.

Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid are good all-rounders to start with to improve skin hydration – these humectant ingredients draw moisture to the skin. No matter your age or skin type, extra hydration can benefit everyone.

We recommend:

Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum

Hyaluronic Serum contains Vit B3 (niacinamide) which will help to balance skin and regulate oil flow which can act as a preventative for breakouts. It also accelerates healing and repair post-breakout.

Acai Hydrate & Nourish Duo  (Acne prone skin)

The ‘gentle’ dose of actives in this formulation is perfect for teens and helps to balance and strengthen skin, promote repair, and soothe skin.

Moisturise

Moisturiser plays a crucial role in your teen skincare routine – even if you have oily skin.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that if you have oily skin you don’t need moisturiser. This step is especially important if you are taking acne medication or using over-the-counter spot treatments which can be particularly drying for the skin.

Moisturiser forms a protective barrier on the surface to help minimise water evaporating from the skin and help prevent environmental irritants from entering in.

Facial oils are suitable for most skin types – even oily ones – to replace a cream based moisturiser or apply over the top of one.

We recommend:

Acai Skin Balancing Face Oil

Ideal for all skin types, especially oily skin with balance concerns, this nourishing oil can replace moisturiser to improve tone, calm and hydrate while regulating oil flow.

Peppermint Green Oil (Acne prone skin)

Highly moisturising with antiseptic and astringent properties to treat acne-prone skin, as well as anti-inflammatory properties targeting redness and inflammation.

Apply SPF

Let your teenage years be the time you commit to wearing sunscreen every day – this is a skincare habit you’ll never regret. The earlier you start this step, the better your skin will be in the future. Trust us!

We recommend:

The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Charcoal. Ideal for all skin types prone to congestion, breakouts, and large pores, the active ingredient charcoal purifies and balances oils for a refined, clearer complexion.

If you’re experiencing cystic acne or acne that is inflamed, you could opt for The Uncomplicated Cleanser plus Anti-Redness again.

Spot treatment

Depending on your skin type and concerns, you may want to include a targeted spot treatment as part of your teen skincare routine.

The evening is a good time to do this. Apply the treatment and wait for it to dry before adding serum.

Serum

Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum, opt for the Acai Hydrate & Nourish Duo again or, if you’re dealing with breakouts, try the Anti-Redness Minty Green Smoothie.

Moisturise

Acai Skin Balancing Face Oil or Peppermint Green Oil (Acne prone skin)

Weekly Treatments For Teenage Skin Care Routine

Mask

Face masks can be beneficial but finding the formulations that work best for your skin type and concerns is important – so is going not overboard with treatments.

It’s best to introduce masks once your skin is responding well to the core products in your teen skincare regime – cleanser, moisturiser, and serum.

We recommend:

Soft Skin Refining Charcoal Clay Booster Mask

The mild exfoliation action of kaolin clay is kind to sensitive and breakout-prone skin, soothes and regulates oil production while deeply cleansing to remove impurities.

Teenagers should introduce this step slowly, once the skin is used to the actives in the cleansers and serums.

Exfoliate

Teenage skin can benefit from exfoliating in the right way with the right ingredients to remove dead cells, keep pores clear, and encourage a smoother complexion overall.

There are a few methods you can use to approach exfoliation; chemical (acids and enzymes), physical (scrubs, granules, textured mitt), or a combination of both.

Chemical exfoliation works by dissolving any breakout forming build-up on the surface (oil, dirt, dead cells) to keep pores clear.

Physical exfoliation removes build up by manually moving the scrub, granules, or mitt/washcloth across your skin’s surface.

We recommend:

Detoxifying Exfoliating Charcoal Serum (Acne prone / congestion)

Using this 2-3 times per week will help to clear dead skin cells from the surface and detoxify the skin by drawing out impurities.

This serum contains powerful drawing agents, it will draw out any underlying congestion – so don’t be alarmed if your skin purges. Continue use after impurities have emerged to aid healing.

Or you could opt for Fresh Sea And Salty Sand. This exotic Polynesian sand physical exfoliator combined with the additional exfoliating power of papaya enzymes gently but effectively exfoliates away dead skin cells.

How to Get Clear Skin for Teenage Guys

Teenage guys are very susceptible to acne. This guide will show you how to get clear skin for teenage guys and all the fine details of acne treatment.

Having struggled with acne for years and trying hundreds of acne products, it’s finally time to share how to achieve clear skin.

If you have severe acne, please seek a professional for specific product recommendations and possible acne medications.

But before we get started, let’s talk about why taking care of your skin is so important…

Why Teenage Guys Should Take Care of Their Skin Now

Prevention is extremely important when it comes to getting clear skin. Starting now instead of later will prevent things like acne scars, bad hygiene habits, and even faster aging in the face.

If you allow things to build up in the beginning, a lot of the acne you receive is almost irreversible.

Now, that doesn’t mean that you’re screwed if you already have acne. It just means that you should be taking care of it more than ever and continuing to do so until your acne is gone and beyond.

Bad hygiene habits are a huge issue for teenage guys as well. If you don’t take care of your face now, what makes you think you’ll take care of it for the rest of your life?

Staying on top of your skin care routine is the most important part; more than products, medication, or any other method. Consistency will always be your best friend long term.

With that being said, let’s get into a few methods to get clear skin for teenage guys:

How to Get Clear Skin for Teenage Guys – Methods That Work

There are 4 main things you should be doing to take care of your face and acne as a teen. Towards the end, we’ll be covering a few more recommended skin care tips and products that you can implement into your routine.

Wash Your Face With a Cleanser!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to wash your face, and especially with a cleanser. Please don’t just rinse your face with water or (even worse) use a bar of soap to wash your face.

Most bars of soap contain chemicals that are way too harsh for the face and can cause serious dryness which only makes things worse.

Guys have different skin than girls do, meaning guys should be using different skin care products than girls do. Be sure to read until the end for a few product recommendations for teenage guys.

Wash your face twice a day with a gentle facial cleanser. Make sure your hands are clean before applying the face wash and gently lather it around your face in circular motions.

Be sure to get your neck area as well, especially if you shave in that area.

A morning and night routine will be the best way to stay on track with your skin care and develop good hygienic habits.

The face wash you purchase (or already have) should be strong enough to get rid of the oils and dirt from the surface of your skin while also being gentle enough to not dry it out. Gel cleansers are usually great for this.

Every time you wash your face, you should always follow it up with this next tip…

Related Post: 7 Things Causing Your Acne

Moisturize Your Face

A lot of guys forget this step and it’s one of the most important ways to get clear skin.

Always moisturize after you wash your face! This is what happens if you don’t:

  • You wash your face with a cleanser/exfoliator
  • Your face gets dry
  • Your sebaceous glands produce excess oils
  • The oils get caught under bacteria
  • Acne forms as a result

Don’t let your skin get to that stage. Find a moisturizer with a cooling feeling to keep your face hydrated and awake for the day.

This will trick your skin into thinking it’s already lubricated enough, stopping it from producing excess oils.

Apply moisturizer twice a day, considering you wash your face twice a day as mentioned above.

Getting a good one can be the difference between smooth clear skin and oily dirt-trapped skin. Invest in yourself because it will pay you back in the near future when you feel more confident than ever knowing your skin is clear and you’re using healthy products.

Consider getting a moisturizer with an SPF (around 15-20).

Exfoliate the Skin

Getting an exfoliator is essential for going a little deeper into the skin to get rid of oils, dirt, and especially dead skin.

Exfoliators usually have a gritty texture, making it slightly more abrasive than a smooth facial cleanser.

Because of this, exfoliating is only recommended to do twice a week at the maximum. It is still important to keep this step in your skin care routine since the face wash doesn’t always get everything off your face.

It is great to use an exfoliator before you shave to get rid of the dead skin cells that interfere with your razor. The shave will feel a lot smoother and reduce your chances of breaking out.

Consider getting a rotating face brush as well for added efficiency when you exfoliate the face.

Prevention – How to Stop Acne Before It Appears

Getting clear skin for teenage guys doesn’t always start with products. Sometimes the biggest cause for acne is daily habits, activities, and even diet.

Here are 7 Possible Things Affecting your Acne:

  1. Sweating
  2. Diet
  3. Hormones
  4. Touching your Face
  5. Stress
  6. Poor Hygiene
  7. Dehydration

For more details on each of these causes, read this post.

Any one of these 7 things can be affecting your acne and you didn’t even know it. Some of them are inevitable such as hormones and stress, but most can be worked on!

Talk to a professional dermatologist that can examine your face and tell you if you have an underlying factor causing your acne.

Aside from that, work on wiping/cleaning your face right after sweating, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding touching your face.

Other Ways to Get Clear Skin for Teenage Guys

Here are a few extra methods/products to consider when working on your skin care:

Toner

Toners are excellent products to help reduce acne overnight and, with consistency, remove acne altogether.

They’re usually applied after washing your face and before your moisturizer. They’re also great for removing a little extra dirt that might still remain after washing your face.

Consider a toner if you have oily, clogged skin and want something to go directly into your face and reduce your pimples.

Rotating Brush

As mentioned before, a rotating brush can really give you that extra deep clean you might need.

After testing out a face wash using my hands compared to a brush and using a cotton ball to wipe my face, here are the results…

I noticed there was still a little dirt left over on my face after using my hands. When using the brush, my face was a lot cleaner and there wasn’t any noticeable dirt left.

Keep it in mind especially for using an exfoliator with it and before shaving.

Overnight Recovery Oil

Although it’s not necessary, a recovery oil can help revive your face overnight while relaxing your skin.

It also gets rid of dirt while moisturizing the area at the same time. It’s almost a face wash and moisturizer in one, but definitely do not replace an actual face wash and moisturizer with this product.

If you decide to use this at night, replace it with your moisturizer after washing your face.

Consider an overnight oil if you want something to leave you skin feeling soft and replenished in the morning.

Drinking Water

Drinking water almost deserves a spot on the main ways to get clear skin. It’s that important! Here’s why…

Drinking water is almost like moisturizing/hydrating your face from the inside. It helps rid your body of toxins and bad bacteria which can also cause your breakouts.

Water is like the medicine for everything, so drink enough that your urine is at least clear in color. This will show you that everything is fully flushed out of your system.

Reducing Stress

Easier said than done, I know. Reducing stress doesn’t just magically happen, but hopefully (after implementing these tips) you’ll feel more confident in your skin. That’s one less thing to worry about and anything helps at this point.

Consider doing some breathing techniques when you’re stressed, or being prepared for tests, etc.

It will not only calm your head down, but your skin as well.

Things to Avoid in Your Skin Care Routine

Here are a few things to stay away from to avoid damaging your skin further or wasting your money on unnecessary things:

Bars of Soap

Washing your face with a bar of soap is a HUGE no no. Don’t ruin your face’s skin like that. Invest in a face wash and keep the bar of soap for the rest of your body.

Face skin is much more delicate than your body’s skin and the chemicals in soap bars are not healthy for your face. Your body can at least handle the chemicals better, but still usually lead to dryness.

Certain Chemicals

A lot of low quality skin care products include chemicals and other bad stuff that you should 100% avoid.

Most parabens, unnatural fragrances, and many others that have names too complicated to say out loud.

For a full list, check out these skin care ingredients to avoid.

Products Without Education

Pay very close attention to the companies and products that you look into. If you notice that they don’t do a good job of telling you what’s inside, avoid them.

Invest in products that come with instructions, or directly mention the natural products inside. Do they include the chemical listed above? Keep all of these factors in mind when choosing a product.

90,000 Teenage Skin Care – Teenage Skin Care

In adolescence, a person changes not only his character and views on the world, but also the body as a whole. Deep transformations in all organs are strongly reflected in the skin. One of the most common “youthful” problems is oily skin. The teenager may also develop acne and blackheads. Ironically, it is at this age that a person develops an attitude towards his body, and problems with appearance can cause serious complexes in both the girl and the boy.Facial skin care for teenagers is a task that needs to be solved together with a beautician. A professional will tell you which tools are best used in a particular case.

Start with Power

The skin is a mirror of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract. If a person’s food is poorly digested or toxins are slowly eliminated from the body, “traces” of this problem will immediately appear on the face. Facial skin care for teenagers is, first of all, proper nutrition. If a growing child eats incorrectly, rashes cannot be avoided.Eating alcohol, spicy or fatty foods will cause the liver to “flush” toxins onto the skin in the form of acne, dryness and redness.

By the way, not only the skin but also the hair can suffer from improper nutrition. The hair of a teenager who regularly dines on chips or energy drinks will become brittle and runny. Of course, you can’t force them to eat right, but parents should set a positive example for a teenager: give up fatty, spicy and sweet, as well as products with a lot of synthetic additives.Often, problematic facial skin in a teenager is a consequence of the parents’ lack of self-discipline.

The cause of diseases of the digestive tract can be not only abuse in nutrition, but also poor heredity, congenital disorders in the structure of tissues, lack of movement or the influence of environmental factors (for example, poor water in the place of residence). To avoid possible troubles, you need to undergo a medical examination. In the presence of diseases of the pancreas, gallbladder, liver or stomach, the doctor will prescribe preventive treatment, for example, he will advise you to periodically drink decoctions of medicinal preparations.

Skin care for teenagers at home

As soon as the child has the first acne or blackheads, it is important to explain to him that they cannot be squeezed out mechanically, otherwise there will be noticeable scars. It will be much more difficult to eliminate them than acne, and some traces of fighting skin problems will remain for life. To remove pimples that have already appeared, you need to choose good cosmetics for washing!

If you are planning to independently choose your child cleaning agent or want to help him with this, carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions! Most products for problem skin contain acids and alcohol.Alcohol dries out the skin, but at the same time stimulates the production of sebum and disturbs the balance. Therefore, before buying such a product, it is better to consult with a beautician.

Skin care tips

Before you begin to properly care for your skin, you need to eliminate existing problems. If a child has acne, consult a dermatologist, if less significant complications, consult a beautician. He will cleanse, find out what products a girl or boy uses for oily skin, and give all the necessary recommendations.

The specialist will also carry out darsonvalization, make a special mask and prescribe a healing cream. Superficial and midline peels can be used to even out the texture of the skin. These procedures will help remove the stratum corneum of the epidermis and even out its color. Face masks for teens can be made from natural products, just make sure your child is not allergic to certain ingredients first.

After cosmetic procedures, you need to build a system of proper facial care.A child 12-13 years old can cleanse the skin with a soft foam for washing. Mineral tonics with thermal water should also be used. In winter, you can use a nourishing baby cream (available in pharmacies) at night.
For a teenager aged 15-16, you can buy a neutral light cream from the professional line. Cosmetics for problematic skin of teenagers Manukas Cosmet is one of the best on the market. High-quality professional products are designed specifically for teenage skin, take into account all its features and guarantee perfect results.

90,000 Adolescent skin care

Adolescence is the period when both boys and girls need to start cosmetic facial skin care.

Because during puberty, hormonal changes in the body take place, and since the work of the sebaceous glands is regulated mainly by sex hormones, this naturally affects the skin of the face.

The skin becomes more oily, prone to clogged pores, blackheads and acne. And often, the most important question that worries teenagers is how to get rid of the hated acne?

In fact, the whole world is looking for an answer to the question of how to get rid of acne once and for all, but to date, a remedy that will prevent the appearance of acne by 100%, unfortunately, has not yet been invented.

Therefore, it is very important for parents to explain, and for adolescents to understand that such changes in skin condition are an integral part of the growing up period, which, alas, will have to go through.

But this does not mean that there is no point in taking care of your skin. Although the care products are not able to completely prevent the appearance of comedones and acne, they can reduce the risk of developing inflammatory processes, promote the early healing of existing rashes and improve the condition of the skin as a whole.

The main product that you will need at this age is a product for cleansing the skin of the face. It can be a cleanser or an anti-inflammatory gel that will thoroughly but gently cleanse your skin.

You can buy such a washbasin in a store, in a pharmacy, from cosmetologists, or order it online. The main thing is that it matches your skin type and its condition at the moment.

If the skin is dry or normal, and after waking up there is no oily sheen in the T-zone, then in the morning it is enough to just wash such skin with water and pat your face with a towel. And in the evening, you need to cleanse the skin with cleansers – a soft gel or facial wash for dry and normal skin.

Once a week, you can use a scrub to exfoliate dead cells.Film masks can also act as a scrub.

Nourishing and moisturizing masks are essential as a weekly treatment for all skin types. For adolescence, these products are distinguished by a lighter texture.

Basic care products – creams – have a protective and moisturizing function. Light texture creams are suitable for dry and normal skin.

Going to the beach, going to the sea or to hot countries – in such cases it is necessary to use sunscreen.

And if your skin is very sensitive and after washing you get a feeling of dryness and tightness, then I can advise you to wash your face not with tap, but with mineral or pure drinking water. Or, after washing your face, rinse your face with a light infusion of anti-inflammatory herbs, such as chamomile.

Those with combination and oily skin in adolescence, as a rule, have many problems – oily skin, blackheads and occasional rashes.

In this case, it is necessary to use a cleansing gel for oily combination and problem skin in the morning and in the evening. And it is also desirable to have several additional funds.

From budgetary funds, you can purchase a 2% salicylic acid solution at the pharmacy and treat inflamed acne 2 times a day. To do this, it is best to moisten a cotton swab in a salicylic solution, apply to the inflamed element and support for several seconds.

Salicylic acid has an anti-inflammatory effect on pimples and reduces the secretion of the sebaceous glands. However, do not treat the affected area too often or for a long time.It is enough to treat pimples 2 times a day for 3-5 days, otherwise you can dry out the skin in the area of inflammation.

Alternatively, you can purchase special remedies from medicinal cosmetics for problem skin, which usually contain not only salicylic acid, but also moisturizing components and therefore do not dry out the skin so much.

For multiple small breakouts, toners and lotions for problem skin can be used to regulate excess sebum secretion and prevent acne breakouts.

But you should not use such lotions all the time and all over the face, especially alcohol-containing ones, so as not to dry out the skin of the face again. It is better to apply such funds locally on problem areas.

Moisturizing and cleansing clay masks. Essential as a weekly treatment for all skin types.

Basic care products have a protective and moisturizing function. For mixed skin, oily and problem skin, you should choose fat-free lotions and gels with a mattifying effect.

Many teenagers are quite complex about blemishes and acne, so I usually recommend that moms get their children an antibacterial concealer. Such products can be found in various brands that produce cosmetics for problem skin.

Teenage girls often start using makeup and foundations. Regarding decorative cosmetics – mascara, shadows, lipstick – the main thing is not to forget to do a thorough make-up removal in the evening and not go to bed with cosmetics on your face.

As for tonal means, I would advise you to use them as little as possible as a teenager. Of course, modern foundations are not what they used to be, and now there are foundations specially designed for problem skin.

If you have problem skin as a teenager, you should make friends with a good beautician.

Of the salon procedures at this age, facial cleansing is still the most popular. It is necessary to carry out such a procedure as needed, but usually no more than once a month. And if there is an exacerbation, you can look at the beautician for anti-inflammatory care.

But regardless of whether you visit a beautician or not, it is important to introduce yourself a rule – never squeeze acne on your own! Because by such actions you can only worsen the situation.

Also, the beautician will tell you how to properly care for your skin and help you choose face care products, taking into account your individual characteristics.

When is it necessary to see a dermatologist?

For minor rashes – up to 10 inflamed nodules, the described home and salon care will be quite enough. As I said, at this age, periodic rashes are almost inevitable, and according to statistics in European countries, about 85% of all young people go through this.

However, if after 1-2 months of regular care you do not see any improvement, it makes sense to consult a dermatologist. In this case, in addition to the available care, it is possible to prescribe acidic or medicinal products for the treatment of acne. However, you should not prescribe such funds yourself.

The choice of agents for treating acne is now very large, and it depends on the form of the disease, age, tolerability of drugs and other factors, and therefore even a specialist is not always able to immediately find the right approach.

But I want to end on a positive note. As a rule, well-chosen simple home care and periodic visits to the beautician will soon give good results.

The number of rashes is reduced, the skin takes on a cleaner, calm and well-groomed appearance.Well, with age, for most young people, this problem goes away by itself.

    Summarize information.

Analyze information on how decorative cosmetics can affect the skin of the face.

Create a multimedia presentation for project protection.

Create a memo on how to use skin care and decorative cosmetics for teenagers with problem skin.

Relevance of the chosen topic

In biology lessons, we studied the changes occurring in the body of adolescents and their effect on appearance. Girls are especially concerned about this. Many of my peers do not know how to take care of themselves, and some generally believe that it is too early for them to do it. I believe that the largest organ of the human body, the skin, requires very careful care and greatly affects the appearance and self-esteem of any person. Therefore, the topic I am considering is very relevant, especially in adolescence.

Chapter I . HOW TO CARE FOR FACE SKIN FOR TEENAGERS 9000 8.

Teenage skin requires increased attention and constant care. It includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing with special cosmetics.

Due to various hormonal changes, the skin of adolescents can look ugly. It is necessary to understand that this is a rather difficult period, when hormones are simply raging: an unpleasant shine appears on the skin due to the activity of the sebaceous glands, and an increased level of testosterone contributes to the appearance of acne, comedones (“blackheads”), and inflammation1.

If nothing is done, then spots and scars may appear on the skin in the future, and their treatment will be a rather complicated process. Therefore, it is important to carefully maintain your skin clean and tidy. Fig.1. It is important for every teenager to know what will help maintain the beauty of their skin2.

1.1. Care for dry and normal skin

People with dry and normal skin, even in adolescence, rarely have rashes, so they usually do not need any additional funds3.

Healthy teenage skin does not need any tonic or cream applications. The exception is going to the beach, trips to the sea or to hot countries – in such cases it is necessary to use sunscreen.

And if your skin is very sensitive and after washing you get a feeling of dryness and tightness, then I can advise you to wash your face not with tap, but with mineral or pure drinking water, or use skin care products Fig. 2. Or, after washing your face, rinse your face with a light infusion of anti-inflammatory herbs, such as chamomile4.

1.2. Care for combination and oily skin

Those with combination and oily skin in adolescence, as a rule, have many problems – oily skin, blackheads and recurrent rashes.

In this case it is necessary to use a cleansing gel for oily combination and problem skin in the morning and in the evening. And it is also desirable to have several additional funds.

From budgetary funds, you can purchase a 2% salicylic acid solution at the pharmacy and treat inflamed acne 2 times a day. To do this, it is best to moisten a cotton swab with salicylic solution, apply to the inflamed element and support for several seconds.

Salicylic acid has an anti-inflammatory effect on pimples and reduces the secretion of the sebaceous glands. However, do not treat the affected area too often or for a long time. It is enough to treat pimples 2 times a day for 3-5 days, otherwise you can dry out the skin in the area of inflammation.

Alternatively, you can purchase special remedies from medical cosmetics for problem skin, which usually contain not only salicylic acid, but also moisturizing components and therefore do not dry out the skin so much.

For multiple small lesions, tonics and lotions for problem skin can be used to regulate excess sebum secretion and prevent acne breakouts.

But do not use such lotions all the time and all over the face, especially alcohol-containing ones, so as not to dry out the skin of the face. It is better to apply such funds locally on problem areas.

Many teenagers are quite complex due to blemishes and acne, so I usually recommend that moms get their children an antibacterial concealer. Such products can be found in various brands that produce cosmetics for problem skin5.

1.3.A visit to a beautician

For girls with dry or normal skin, salon procedures are usually not needed, home grooming will be enough. And for oily, and even more problematic, a complex combination of salon and home care will be required. Do not forget – the earlier you visit a professional, the easier and more effective the help will be. It cannot be said unequivocally that the first visit to a beautician should be at 12 or 13 years old. The need for salon care in each case is individual and depends on the characteristics of the child’s development6.

There are various procedures in the arsenal of specialists. There are programs specifically for young patients. In modern cosmetology, both traditional and innovative methods of problem skin care are used.

Most popular:

Mechanical or hardware (ultrasonic) facial cleansing. There are a number of limitations here. The frequency of cleaning is selected based on the characteristics of the skin: usually once a month. If hygienic cleaning of problem skin is rarely carried out, and in addition, it is also started late, then the pores may enlarge. If you resort to it often, 2-3 times a month, then it is possible to activate the secretion of sebum.

Cryomassage . It is carried out to narrow pores and eliminate oily sheen. Liquid nitrogen is used. Blood circulation improves due to a sharp temperature drop. The work of the sebaceous glands is streamlined, acne decreases, spots after acne are removed, the face freshens7.

Chapter II . Research on the project.

2.1. How to determine your skin type.

To take care of your skin, you first need to determine what type of skin it is. Below is a test that will help you independently determine your skin type and choose cosmetics that are suitable for this particular type. To pass the test, I created it in a Google form, you can refer to it, if necessary, using the link https: // goo.gl / forms / lbcfVyAJggZOcMCx2.

You just need to answer the questions:

Key to the passed test: Sum up all the answers.Your skin type is determined by the prevalence of answers under one letter or another.

If your answers predominate:

a – Your skin is dry

b – Your skin is normal

c – Your skin is sensitive

g – Your skin is oily

d – Your skin is of a mixed type

Important: Your type skin depends on the habitat (when moving to a new place, it is advisable to pass the test again to determine the type of your skin, taking into account the characteristics of the climate and water in the new area), on the season (in winter, the skin is drier than in summer), on age (with age, the skin becomes drier). Before buying a new cosmetic product, it is recommended to repeat the test to find the product that your skin needs at the moment.

2.2 Regular cleansing, moisturizing and protection

Cleanliness and beauty are almost synonymous, so any skin care should start with proper cleansing. It is very important to do this in the morning and evening (especially if you have used makeup), and if necessary, during the day after sports, swimming or in hot weather.Find the right cleanser for your skin type. For oily skin – light gels and special soap for washing. For dry – mousses of a delicate texture or cleansing milk. We wash off mascara with special means for removing make-up from the eyes and in no case with soap for oily skin, so as not to dry out the thin skin of the eyelids. The cleansing is completed with a skin-type toner that removes the remains of cleansers and softens the harsh effects of water. With alcohol tonics, you should act carefully even with problem skin and use them only as directed by a cosmetologist. You can’t use dad’s cologne or mom’s perfume for skin. Keep a pack of antibacterial hand and face cleansing wipes with you when hiking, so you don’t neglect the issue of cleanliness even in nature. For very oily skin, it is advisable to blot your face during the day with matting or regular paper napkins9.

Many people have believed all their lives in the myth that oily skin does not need hydration. This is not the case, moisturizing is necessary for any type of skin, you just need to choose the right textures. For dry skin – light creams, for oily skin – fat-free lotions or matting gels. After cleansing and toning, apply them twice a day. If the skin is very oily, then apply the product only in the morning. Of course, few teenagers think about the fact that the sun is the main cause of skin aging. But you can get burned at any age, and do not forget about the possibility of developing various diseases. And remember that the skin can react to aggressive sun exposure with excess oil secretion, which leads to acne. Therefore, it is imperative to protect your skin from the sun, using products with an SPF of at least 15 throughout the year (in hot regions, the sun protection factor should be selected even higher). On vacation, use one sunscreen suitable for face and body. The rest of the time, either choose a daytime moisturizer with SPF or use filter-based makeup10.

2.3. How to choose a foundation for problem, combination and dry skin?

The question of how to choose a foundation is important for every woman who wants to look perfect at any time. Therefore, applying a tonal base is one of the mandatory stages of preparation for makeup. This is a means of decorative cosmetics that can not only beautify, but also take care of the surface of the skin, thanks to its individual characteristics. Therefore, you should not neglect it, even if you are not the owner of problem skin Fig. 3.

Why do some teenagers need to use a foundation:

1. The need to hide acne of problem skin;

2.Disguise pigmentation;

3. Visually reduce the number of mimic wrinkles;

4. Face contouring;

5. The ability to perfectly align the tone;

6. Moisturizing dry skin;

7. Providing complete skin care throughout the day;

8. Protection against negative environmental influences;

9. Preservation of youth and health of the skin.

2.4. Marketing research and its results

During the work on the project, I conducted a marketing research to find out the situation with skin care of my friends, classmates and teenagers from school.A questionnaire was drawn up and a questionnaire survey was carried out, during which various questions would be voiced that could help me in developing recommendations for the care of a teenager’s skin. The marketing research involved 80 recipients, whose age ranged from 12 to 20+ years, of which 50 were females and 30 were males. Almost all respondents know what their skin type is. Many questions were asked, the results are presented below in the diagrams in Figures 4 – 7:

Fig.4 What kind of skin do you have?

Based on the survey results, we received information that proves the need to inform adolescents about ways to care for facial skin. Not all adolescents know that the skin is an organ of the human body that requires careful care. Everyone wants to look good, so starting from adolescence, you need to monitor your skin on a daily basis.

2.5. Facial advice for teens

Everyday consistency and consistency combined with periodic special treatments is the most important thing in skin care. It is also important to take into account all factors when choosing a skin care system – the type of skin, and its age, and the season, and the individual characteristics of your body. I can offer the following recommendations for facial skin care:

I would like to advise adolescents to use first of all cosmetics for skin care, and only then decorative cosmetics as a correction of the problem.

Be sure to moisturize your skin during winter. It doesn’t matter what type of skin you have: dry, oily, combination.

Watch your diet, as what we eat reflects on our face.

Try to determine what your skin is reacting to and, if possible, eliminate it from the diet.

If you have more global skin problems such as acne, visit your dermatologist first. He will look exactly into the depths of the problem and help you get rid of acne.

Try not to crush pimples. Even if you really want to.

Use a cleanser or hydrophilic oil every day. In the morning and in the evening. But not with soap, as it dries the skin

Change the towel and pillowcase frequently. Since, a lot of microbes gather on them.

Conclusion

In the course of working on the project, I applied the knowledge gained in the lessons of technology, informatics, biology, life safety.

To find information, I used Internet resources and the library. In search of the necessary literature, I was also helped by Internet resources and search engines Yandex and Google.

For the design of the work, I used Microsoft Word. I used Microsoft Publisher to create the design product. For the presentation of the project at the defense, I used Power Point.

I conducted a market research that confirmed my assumptions about the existing problem of skin care among adolescents. There is a lot of literature on the topic I have chosen, and if you read everything and then draw conclusions, it will take a lot of time. Since I needed to master a large amount of information, the most rational, in my opinion, is to develop a recommendation for adolescents with problem skin. This is what I made the main goal of my project. A booklet with recommendations can be used by any person interested in this problem, moreover, this information can be disseminated among parents of primary grades, because their children may subsequently have problems with their facial skin, so the audience of interested persons is growing.

While working on a project, I faced the problem of choosing the optimal information. After all, the information must be reliable, necessary and sufficient to become relevant to the audience for which my brochure is designed. A lot of information that I collected during the work on the project was not included in the text part, as it turned out to be redundant, but I believe that I did not waste time in vain, because there is never a lot of useful information.

It may have been necessary to consider some of the chemical aspects of facial cosmetics, but this was not part of my initial plan of work, and therefore I decided not to insert the information I found into my project. If I continue to work on this project, then perhaps I will consider the chemical aspects of cosmetics, in terms of their chemical composition and the possible harm and benefits when using this or that remedy.

The work on this project was very useful for me not only from an informative point of view, but also from the position of a student who needed to find, generalize and draw conclusions from the work done.

improper care in adolescence

Hello! Not so long ago I consulted a good friend of mine in the field of care for a 15-year-old girl. This is the most moody adolescence when disaster strikes. Not all, but many develop pimples, the skin becomes oily, rebellious and adapts to hormones.

Therefore, I would like to devote this topic to skin care for teenagers, and also tell you what to do if it comes to bad: to the consequences of improper care.

There are three rules in the care of teenage skin:

1. DO NOT MATT DEATH, AS YOU WANT IT, EVEN IF THERE IS OILY SHINE

2. TREAT SPINS AND DO NOT PRESS THEM IN NO EVENT. FIGHT THEM ONLY LOCALLY

3.VERY GOOD MOISTURIZING THE SKIN

Many people resort to using alcohol toners, tea tree foams, matting toners, and do not use moisturizing, because at first glance it makes the skin even more oily. What’s more, avoid hydrophilic oils! This is the most incorrect approach that can be.

Of course, for a short period, the skin of a teenager will become dull and dry from shock, but then it rushes into battle and begins to intensively secrete sebum, which, together with acne, can turn the face into… let’s not say that. Mothers forbid girls to apply foundation and advise using only loose powder – because it absorbs fat. Which is also completely wrong. As a result, the teenager walks with the skin dried with powder, unprotected, and not moisturized.

Sadness, longing and sadness.

Proper care during adolescence

So, we understand in stages what can help a teenager. You need to understand that all this will take place gradually, not quickly, and if it is hormonal, then the teenager will simply “heal and restrain”, not letting the storm break out, and then the pimples themselves will stop climbing.

BB cream

Yes, yes, he is. Blemish Balm is the full name that can be deciphered as “balm against imperfections.” It used to be used to heal scars and mask them, but Koreans have retained these functions and added a dose of hydration, nutrition and healthy replenishment. Therefore, you can treat the skin around the clock, protect it from the external environment, and moisturize it. You can choose any BB cream, the basic set of functions is the same for everyone.

Anti-grease

If a teenager walks around unhappy with a greasy shine, then matting napkins will come to the rescue (this is usually such tracing paper in a pocket package and SPECIAL matting powders – they are pressed and applied by patting on the face. For example, Tony Moly 3M Oil Blotting Film or Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Pact. Ordinary decorative powders should not be used – this is superfluous.

Now let’s move on to leaving.

Make-up removal

If a girl uses makeup, then she also needs to shoot it with high quality. And hydrophilic oil works on the principle of “like attracts like”. Fat attracts fat. Therefore, the classic hydrophilic, and if they are also with coal – just a must-have. For example, The Saem Natural Condition Pore Deep Cleansing Oil or Ayoume Pore Deep Cleansing Oil.

By the way, when removing makeup, you cannot rely only on your hands – a sponge will help the horse to thoroughly and gently cleanse. Why not a brush? You can also brush, but only if there are no acne and inflammation – for such skin, even the softest will turn into a source of micro-scratches, irritation and spread of bacteria.

Cleansing Foam

As soft as possible – no tea tree or soda. It will not bring benefits, there simply will not be time to act, but the background of the skin will spoil and dry. After all, we will treat by other means, and the foam should be as soft as possible.

I have always considered CosRX Morning Low PH Gel to be the best. He really cares for the skin – both for youth and for adults.

Facial Toner

And here the treatment with acids begins. Fruit and salicylic – they disinfect and renew.
If acne in a teenager is in its prime, CosRX again comes to the rescue – its formulations are just designed for problem skin.CosRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol (for those who are not well), and milder CosRX AHA / BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner (for gentle disinfection and prevention)

Exfoliating with peeling pads

Two treatment options – both with BHA / PHA acids. CosRX One Step Pimple Clear Pad and Scinic Feel So Good Peeling Pad (PHA)

Peels are one of the most effective ways to heal your skin. Depending on the instructions, they need to be applied 2 to 7 times a week, they are washable and indelible. The rinsed ones are best kept on the skin for 5-10 minutes to let the ingredients take effect.

Acne Stickers

These are the very local helpers that kill the pimple. They must be glued strictly before moisturizing, they are not molded onto the skin with a conditional cream. For severe inflammations – Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch, for weaker ones – Tony Moly Tony Lab AC Spot Patch. Usually they are glued on at night, but nothing prevents you from doing it during the day under make-up. They are either transparent or flesh-colored.What does such a patch do? It kills the focus of inflammation, and draws out pus, if one has already appeared. The rule is not to squeeze pimples, but to stick patches on them – this is what will help the skin to avoid scars, cyanotic spots and other joys of physical impact.

You can use such patches at least every day, around the clock.

Humidification

Strictly speaking, teenage skin does not need a full cream. Light textures of the emulsion will be more preferable, penetrate deeper into the skin, and moisturize just as well.My all-time favorite is The Skin House Marine Active Emulsion with sea water and trace elements. What happens during hydration? The skin gradually realizes that it does not need to defend itself, and begins to produce less sebum.

This is a very simple but effective care that will help you to survive the crisis. Gentle cleansing, healing toners, peels and stickers, and quality light hydration. And skin protection with bb cream.

Acne

What to do if a teenager’s skin is already damaged (pimples have been crushed, there are still beautiful spots, scars, etc.)or is it a bunch of acne due to an infection?

In the first case it is necessary to add snail serum between toner and moisturizer, and also apply snail creams and gels to damaged areas BEFORE basic moisturizing. Snails resurface post-acne and scars.

In the second case we urgently stop pressing acne, use ONLY BHA toners and peels (no PHA, AHA, only hardcore), and moisturize the skin even more. It is possible and even necessary to add daily sheet masks based on aloe, coal, tea tree and Asian centella to the diet.It is fabric masks with these ingredients that will help, not harm or dry out.

Secrets of skin care for teenagers

Adolescence is a great time to start cosmetic skin care.

Cosmetologists recommend taking care of the face for both girls and boys, regardless of the presence of rashes and other problems.

Clean skin without pimples, bumps and blackheads is a source of pride. But in order to avoid problems, she needs proper and delicate care.Especially when it comes to a tender age.

Features of the skin of a teenager

During puberty, the body begins to rebuild. Hormone levels rise dramatically. The sebaceous and sweat glands work in full force, the vessels are transformed. That is why the skin and hair become oily faster, sweat acquires a pungent odor, and the problem of skin rashes is encountered.

At the same time, in boys, the problem may be more pronounced, since their testosterone level is higher, respectively, the amount of sebum secretion increases and rashes become more.Girls are more careful about their appearance, so they have the opportunity to prevent the occurrence of inflammation. Boys, on the other hand, consider self-care a “girly” occupation, so inflammation is aggravated.

Dry to normal skin

The absence of oily sheen in the T-zone after sleep indicates that the skin is of a normal or dry type. It is enough for them to wash their face with water and foam.

Before going to bed, the face should be entrusted with cleansing gels for dry to normal skin.Additional care is often not required because this type of skin is less likely to have acne problems.

Healthy skin of a young girl or guy does not particularly need additional care, creams and tonics. Exceptions are sunscreens during prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Sometimes, after washing, there is a feeling of increased tightness, which is an indication for using mineral water instead of tap water or rinsing the face with herbal infusion.Chamomile will come in very handy.

Combination to oily skin

Adolescents with combination to oily skin have many problems in adolescence. Excessive activity of the sebaceous glands provokes the appearance of an oily sheen, increases the number and degree of rashes. In such a situation, you cannot do without the use of a cleansing gel, at least twice a day.

A budget solution to the problem will be the purchase of a 2% salicylic acid solution in the pharmacy and spot treatment of inflammations.Salicylic acid reduces the secretion of the sebaceous glands and has anti-inflammatory effects. This tool should not be abused. Otherwise, there is a risk of overdrying the skin.

Most teenagers are very sensitive to their appearance. Complex formation is possible due to skin imperfections. Therefore, you can purchase an anti-inflammatory antibacterial matting stick.

If you start proper skin care in a timely manner, then inflammation and rashes can be avoided.Over time, the skin will acquire a normal, well-groomed appearance, and with age, this problem completely disappears.

Boys Face Care

It is common for teenagers to develop pimples or blackheads on their skin during puberty. In order to get rid of acne, you need to eat right, including in your diet foods high in vitamins – fresh vegetables and fruits in as large a quantity as possible.

You can take multivitamin preparations – this will also help to normalize the metabolism, the violation of which causes the appearance of acne on the skin. You can also use and widely advertised on television means – “Klerasil” and “Oxy-Yu”. But with the manifestation of individual intolerance, the use of these funds is not recommended.

The appearance of blackheads on the skin becomes very unpleasant for a teenager. This is one of the most common cosmetic skin imperfections in both boys and girls.

As a rule, acne in adolescence and adolescence adversely affects the psyche of young people, often causes them to seek retirement from their peers.

Oily skin of the face, with black dots and red inflamed elements of acne, has a negative impact on the character and behavior of adolescents and young men, their attitude towards others, and causes a depressed mood. Young people with acne are most often shy, tend to avoid society, and if acne is localized on the back and chest, they avoid sports activities where you need to undress – in the pool, on the beach, on the sports field.

Therefore, wipes are not just a cosmetic defect – they are a complex medical and psychological problem.

Favorite places of blackheads are on the nose, forehead and chin, primarily on the wings of the nose, where there are most of the sebaceous glands. In most cases, the cause of their occurrence is dust and dirt that gets into the enlarged openings of the sebaceous glands, where the secreted sebum is contaminated.

Long hair on the forehead and temples also contributes to the appearance of blackheads in these areas. The more the sebaceous gland ducts are expanded, the more and faster the pores become clogged. Therefore, evening face cleansing is one of the main means of dealing with blackheads.

The more thoroughly the affected areas are cleaned, the more successful the result will be, the more surely it will be possible to avoid further complications, since juvenile acne or acne starts with blackheads.

Under no circumstances should you squeeze out the rub! In this case, an infection can be brought in, which causes deep inflammation. In addition, when extruding, as a rule, the layers of the skin are injured, marks remain and redness almost always appears from ruptured capillaries, which does not adorn the face at all.

The best way to cleanse your face is with bran, oatmeal, salted or sea water. To prepare a mixture of bran or oatmeal (in this respect, they are almost equivalent) as follows.

7 glass of oatmeal (rolled oats) or bran is passed through a meat grinder, 7 teaspoon of baking soda or boric acid is added. The mixture is well mixed and stored in a glass container with a spoon. Cleaning is carried out as follows: the skin of the entire face is moistened with water, then 7 tablespoon of ground oatmeal (bran) is placed on the palm of the left hand, which are mixed with water to form a gruel.

With the right hand, the gruel is gradually applied to the skin of the face, while lightly rubbing the chin, nose, forehead and cheeks. You should use circular movements, as if rubbing the mass into the skin, due to which the blockages dissolve well and are washed out of the pores.

For water rinses, a warm rinse is recommended in the evening and a cold rinse in the morning. For the last rinse, you can also take sea salt, which is sold in pharmacies, but after it is completely dissolved, the water must be separated from sand and other sediments that can damage the skin of the face.

In the morning and in the evening, 10 – 15 minutes after drying the skin, the affected areas can be wiped with the following liquids: 3% hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, toilet vinegar. As a rule, the compositions are changed after a week or two.

In case of rapid skin contamination, you can use salt procedures 2-3 times a week instead of the next evening cleaning. Soak a cotton swab with hot water, lather well with baby or cosmetic soap until foam forms, sprinkle with a small amount of fine salt and wipe the affected skin on the face in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes.

Leave the foam on the skin for 1 – 2 minutes, rinse it off first with warm and then cold water. This procedure gives the best effect after the bath. It can be replaced by brushing with 3% hydrogen peroxide and soapy cream.

15-20 minutes after the salt procedure, the face is wiped with boric, salicylic (1 – 2%) or camphor alcohol or aloe juice, which disinfects, tones, and soothes the skin.

In almost the same way, but not after a bath, you can cleanse your face every other day with a cotton swab moistened with warm water and sprinkled with dry mustard – for the first 4-5 times in a small amount.Only the areas affected by black dots are treated with circular rubbing movements, at first within 1 minute, later (after 3 – 4 times) a little longer.

This procedure is followed immediately by a copious rinse with cold water. After the first rubbing, sometimes there is a slight tingling of the skin, a slight redness, but then these phenomena decrease and disappear.

Dry mustard best cleanses the skin, blackheads, blockages, deeply disinfects the skin, prevents inflammation.A tampon with mustard powder can be applied to the contaminated wings of the nose after 1-2 days.

After the procedure with mustard, the affected areas are smeared, lightly rubbing, with a composition of glycerin and lemon juice (or table vinegar) in equal parts. These wipes can be done 10-15 minutes before applying the mass, as they help soften and discolor blackheads and make them easier to clean.

In spring and summer, the most useful are rubbing in fresh juice and a mask of fresh sorrel, young dandelion leaves, calendula and plantain, which have excellent medicinal properties.

Blackheads with dry skin are treated as follows: areas with blackheads are slowly and thoroughly lubricated with a cotton swab soaked in warm vegetable oil 2-3 times, and the oil is rubbed into the skin. Then these areas are treated with a warm soapy swab with fine salt.

After 2-3 minutes, the face is rinsed with warm water, and overnight a mixture of the following composition is applied to it: 1 teaspoon of potato starch, 1 teaspoon of glycerin, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar. This mixture should be lightly rubbed into the skin where there are blackheads. It is used every day or every other day for a month.

After 10 – 15 minutes, the composition is well absorbed, softening clogged pores and dissolving blackheads.

We help you navigate a wide variety of cosmetics and understand what needs to be included in the care and what not.

What are the most common skin problems in adolescents?

Teenagers go through puberty in different ways, but many remember the moment when they stopped being children well from the changes in the mirror. Enlarged pores, oily shine on the face, white acne that appears through the skin.

This is what acne looks like, a skin disorder that affects about 85% of young people aged 12-25.Or, your skin suddenly becomes red, itchy, and crusty where it is irritated. This is how eczema begins – usually it manifests itself in childhood, but it can postpone the start up to 12-13 years.

The list doesn’t end there: Vitiligo, contact dermatitis, psoriasis and fungal infections also plague teenage skin.

I have had “dry skin” since childhood, as my grandma used to say. But then it turned out that this is called “atopic dermatitis”, and this is a hereditary disease.

Transmitted through the mother’s line: great-grandmother, grandmother, my mother, older brother, me, my younger sister and now my daughter collided with him. My brother and I got the most.

We have seasonal rashes on a large area, itching, pain, sometimes with discharge of fluids. The rest just have dry skin. By old age, the situation gets better, somewhere after 50.

My face began to “bloom” at the age of 11. When classmates have clean baby skin around you, and there is no living space on you, this puts a lot of pressure on your head and self-esteem.For many years I have been looking for the cause of acne, and only at the age of 23 I found out: I have no internal disorders that could cause acne. This is genetics, a tendency to breakouts.

Why do children not have acne, but teenagers do?

The skin of a teenager differs sharply from that of a child – hormones begin to regulate its work. When puberty is reached, a green light comes on in the brain to produce testosterone in boys and estrogen in girls.

In fact, the process is more complicated, but it is important to know the following: sex hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to work and produce a lot of sebum, that is, sebum.Sebum moisturizes skin and hair, but when in excess, hair becomes greasy and skin oily and acne-covered.

Acne can also occur on dry skin if it lacks moisture. The epidermis is damaged and becomes available for the growth of bacteria that cause acne.

The process of puberty is part of the development of the adolescent’s body. You need to treat its manifestations with Buddhist calmness. 8 out of 10 teens will go away with facial acne.

Good news: The sebaceous glands will never be as active again as they were in adolescence. The older the person, the less active they are. If acne remains after puberty, it means that genetics turned out to be stronger.

In this case, you will need a consultation with a dermatologist and selection of treatment.

Can the quality of facial skin be affected?

How long will it take to work with the skin to avoid inflammation and irritation? The honest answer is all your life. In one course of treatment, it will not be possible to cure the skin for good. But regular grooming, started in adolescence, will help at least reduce the number of complications in the form of scars and blemishes.

Learn from experienced investors: the sooner you start investing, the more you get rich. Early facial is an investment in well-groomed skin at maturity.

Nursing is not a cure. A specialist doctor can prescribe medication and lifestyle recommendations. But without a beauty routine, it won’t be as effective. Research suggests that proper care can help treat acne and rosacea and improve the quality of life for patients.

How much basic care products do I need?

To provide your skin with complete care, you do not need to fill the entire bathroom shelf with jars of creams and serums.Just a few tools are enough. Each has its own task and turn to apply to the face.

What to apply to the skin in the morning What to apply to skin before bedtime
Cleanser Facial tonic (if needed) Moisturizer, lotion or gel Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 Make-up remover Cleanser Facial tonic (if needed) Night cream or night mask

It turns out that the basic care set consists of 5-6 products. All of these products provide the skin with cleansing, hydration and sun protection. Add toning as needed: exfoliation is required – choose a toner with acids, moisturizing – with hyaluronic acid. Active care products – after consultation with a specialist.

In what order should the products be applied?

To understand order, you need to remember how the means work. It is important that the skin is pre-cleansed before applying the toner and cream.

This will not clog the pores and the components in the products will get into the deep layer of the skin.Sunscreen is applied after treatments and before cosmetics, because SPF products can dry out the skin.

Moisturizer prepares the face before applying it. It turns out this order:

  1. Washing. In the morning, a gentle cleansing is enough, and at the end of the day, you must definitely wash off the makeup.
  2. Treatments are applied to the skin according to the rule from “light” to “heavy”. That is, tonic, serum, medicinal ointment go first of all – these are non-greasy and easily absorbed products.
  3. A moisturizer or mask is the hardest product to use at the very end. This step locks the skin and everything that has been applied to it. Not a single serum, toner or other product will pass through the dense creamy texture and will not be effective.
  4. Sunscreen if it is day and you are going outside.

How to choose a product for your skin type?

Knowing your skin type will come in handy when choosing a cleanser that doesn’t dry out. And also in the choice of a moisturizer – so that it does not clog pores and, for example, cope with eczema.

There are 5 types of skin in total: normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive.

Skin care is not always easy to pick up on your own, especially if your acne is severe and eczema cannot be soothed with body lotion alone. In this case, you need to go to a dermatologist: he will describe the stages of treatment and advise on products for basic care.

As a teenager, I tried a bunch of remedies for eczema: J&J oils, baby cream, some ointments, traditional medicine, birch tar.I feel so sorry for myself as a child!

I drank tons of bacteria, pro- and prebiotics, sat on exhausting diets, but everything went by. Fortunately, I was fortunate enough to learn about evidence-based medicine and doctors working on its principles.

This is how I found out: all I had to do was start using emollient and moisturizing ingredients of cosmetics, or emollients. Often, many, and everywhere. For a whole year I have not seen the spots and I hope that they will not return.

I completely changed my care: I go to the shower with a special gel-oil, I do not use soap, and the skin feels completely different.

Means for washing and makeup remover

Products responsible for cleansing due to surfactants in the composition. Washes away dirt and grease from the skin. Surfactants are soft and hard. Harsh ones clean better, but can cause irritation, allergies and dryness.

As part of them, they are labeled with the abbreviation SLS – this is sodium lauryl sulfate. The skin needs something softer, no SLS in the composition. If there is SLS, but in the middle of the composition or closer to the end, then its percentage in the product is small.

The product will not be so aggressive, you can use it.

But it is better to choose a cleanser that is soft and without scrubbing particles. See how it behaves when washing your face: if it is gel-like and almost does not foam, this is a good sign, most likely there are few aggressive surfactants in it.

Beauty blogger Caroline Hirons advises buying gels, milk or balm for washing. You can use the same remedy in the morning and in the evening. If you are wearing makeup, take a closer look at hydrophilic balms for cleansing: they can wash off all makeup without leaving any residue.

Moisturizing & Exfoliating Toners

In adolescence, these products are useful only for additional exfoliation of the skin with acne, and it is better if the remedy is selected by a doctor. During puberty, the skin itself renews itself rather quickly, so if there are no indications, toning can be skipped for now.

Active care

These are usually products with vitamin A, or retinol, and its derivatives. This step, if there are no serious skin problems, can be skipped. If you have moderate to severe acne, that’s a different story. The introduction of retinol into care can help, but only a dermatologist can choose a treatment regimen.

Humidification

What any skin needs. You can find glycerin, petroleum jelly, peptides and ceramides in the compositions of the products – they saturate the skin with moisture and form a thin film on its surface, preventing dehydration.

Sun protection

An often overlooked and second most important care step after moisturizing. If you are severely sunburned more than five times in your life – with burning pain and blisters – your risk of developing melanoma doubles.

In addition, the sun’s rays accelerate the aging of the skin and provoke pigmentation. To avoid this, use a product with an SPF of at least 30 at any time of the year – the UV index can be high even in winter.

Now on sale you can find not only cream with SPF, but also milk and spray that will not leave white spots on the skin and will not be felt on the face.

Are decorative cosmetics and teenage skin compatible?

Of course! It’s okay to wear makeup as a teenager. If you want to mask acne with a foundation or concealer, mask it to feel comfortable. But cosmetics must be handled correctly.

  • Wash your hands before applying foundation to your face, and do not share lip balm or mascara with a friend. If you don’t want to, of course, share with her acne, conjunctivitis and other diseases.
  • Wash sponges, brushes, and other makeup products every 7-10 days. If this is not done, bacteria will enter the face from the brush and cause acne.
  • Always wash off makeup before bed. For long-lasting makeup, you need a separate product – for example, micellar water or hydrophilic balm. We wash off the makeup until the cotton pad is transparent and there are no mascara residues on the eyelashes. And then we wash our face with the usual cleanser.

What to see?

It is better to show once how to wash properly than to write a hundred times. In this video, Caroline Hairons, a beauty blogger with over 30 years of industry experience, shows you how to cleanse your skin properly in two minutes.

How to take care of your teenager’s skin: care products and rules | Online magazine Girlfriend

We know that the face of a teenager sometimes surprises and spoils the mood. Therefore, together with the best dermatocosmetologists, we have prepared advice on care. But first, about what happens to the skin in adolescence.

From the age of ten, the skin in its characteristics and protective properties becomes similar to an adult. But a number of differences, of course, remain. Your skin is denser, more elastic, heals quickly, has a healthy glow. It’s just a dream of everyone, especially women after 30. But, you say, we go with acne! Alas, yes.

This is not a problem for everyone, but for many. Already at the age of 12-13, adolescents notice excessive shine, oily content, clogged pores and youthful acne. Of course, as soon as hormonal changes are finally completed, acne for most will disappear. But no one wants to wait until the age of 25.

So read on to find out what kind of teen skin care you need.

The cosmetics that you buy should not only be suitable for the price, like the smell, but also meet the needs of your skin type. Therefore, we pay attention not to the brand, but to the composition, okay?

Care for normal facial skin

This is the simplest thing for a teenager. If there are no inflammatory elements and nothing bothers, just cleansing is enough. But it is necessary, otherwise there is a high probability that the hormonal storm and improper hygiene will lead to sad results. Correct teenage care is morning and evening washing with gel or foam for normal skin, rinsing with cool water.

Tightness, peeling, itching – this discomfort has to be endured if you have dry skin. Although why endure, you just need to know how to care for her correctly.Dryness can be constitutional, natural, or acquired.

In any case, this is a disturbed protective layer, dehydration, lack of own lipids (fats) and, possibly, manifestations of certain diseases – for example, atopic dermatitis.

Daily care for such skin should include:

  • cleaning – very gentle. Preferably with a hydrophilic wash oil, mousse or foam. Ideally, once a day, the second with water only.Your task is not to dry out your skin. In cosmetics, look for allantoin, hyaluronic acid, oils, aloe extract;
  • moisturizing – in the morning and during the day after contact with water, either apply a light moisturizer for sensitive skin, or often spray your face with thermal water;
  • food – after an evening wash, we will use a nutrient. Don’t buy creams for aging skin! There are many nutrients in them, but they will be heavy for you.Your task is to restore the protective barrier. And emollients do well with this. This is a cosmetics that perfectly moisturizes, softens the skin, relieves itching and prevents moisture loss. Look for panthenol, hyaluronic acid, urea, vitamins in the composition.

With an increased production of sebum, not only in adolescents, but also in adults, inflammation often occurs. Trying to get rid of acne, burn it, squeeze it out, we only exacerbate the problem. The most common 90,013 mistakes 90,014 in caring for problem skin of a teenager dermatologists believe:

  • degreasing it with alcohol solutions – so the amount of fat only increases;
  • squeezing blackheads with hands – so the inflammation becomes larger, age spots appear – post-acne scars;
  • the use of harsh scrubs or cosmetics with acids not for age;
  • excessive washing – it dries out, provokes the production of sebum;
  • independent use of local, sometimes quite aggressive medicinal preparations, including antibiotics.

And the steps for caring for oily teenage skin should be completely different:

  • cleansing with light products marked “oil-free” in the morning and in the evening;
  • humidification. Yes, don’t be surprised: oily skin is dehydrated. Therefore, she tries to protect herself by increasing the production of fat. As soon as you start using a non-comedogenic moisturizer after washing your face, thermal water during the day – you will notice that there is less oily sheen;
  • local correction of imperfections .The highly concentrated formula is active against inflammation, instantly soothing and revitalizing the skin. The product absorbs the resulting exudate (inflammatory fluid) and instantly removes swelling and redness of the skin. Due to its disinfecting properties, it accelerates the healing processes and wound tightening.
  • strips or patches can be used to remove blackheads on the wings of the nose .
  • special care – products prescribed by a dermatocosmetologist.Do not be too lazy to go to at least one consultation. It is wrong to simply go through all the pharmaceutical preparations – apart from harm, there will be no effect. They differ in their principle of action, in their intended use for different skin types, and even in age. Some are allowed from the age of nine, some – only to adolescents over 12 years old.

By the way, acne often appears not only on the face, but also on the back and chest. The rules are the same: gentle cleansing and special external preparations.

Yes, it happens that the so-called T-zone on the face shines from excessive fat content, and on the cheeks – dryness and flaking. In this case, it will be correct to look after each area as it should.

It is clear that it is inconvenient to clean the forehead separately, the cheeks separately. Therefore, it is better to wash your face with a product for oily skin, moisturize the entire face, but apply a nourishing cream separately to dry areas, and a healing cream on problem areas.

Or pointwise on inflammatory elements.

Is there a difference in skin care for boys and girls?

In theory, yes, but it’s minimal. The peculiarity is that boys in adolescence produce more testosterone and oily skin, the number and severity of acne can be noticeably higher than in girls. In addition, boys begin to shave, which additionally traumatizes the skin, and contact with shaving products causes an unnecessary reaction. We would advise not to use men’s foams and gels, but to thickly apply your detergent on your face and shave over it. Girls with problem skin need to be careful when applying cosmetics. It is better to postpone thick foundation, powders, etc. until the moment of remission. And if you really need to hide minor inflammations and scars, you need to choose CC- and BB-funds with the same marks “oil free” and “non-comedogenic”.

The rules of skin care for adolescents are not only about taking care of the face. Other means are also needed.

Scalp

Teenage girls love to experiment with colors, moreover at home, with girlfriends and not always expensive and professional means. Therefore, irritation, peeling, itching may appear.

In this case, immediately change your usual shampoo to a special – neutral, for sensitive scalp. You can try at the time of exacerbation and for children, but it will cope worse with cleansing the hair.

And guys have another problem – the production of sebum increases not only on the face. The scalp also suffers from this, the hair itself gets dirty and greasy faster. We understand that ten bubbles are useless and we don’t want to spend half an hour in the bathroom.

You can try adding a little bath salt to the palm of your hand with your shampoo once a week. Massage your head gently and rinse thoroughly. So you cleanse the skin, remove dead cells, and the hair will literally begin to breathe, get more nutrition.

Try it – you won’t regret it.

For intimate hygiene

It’s not only mom who can use these products. You, too, can and should. Such cosmetics are more gentle in relation to the mucous membrane, do not cause irritation, soften and maintain the correct balance of microflora. We only choose funds of a medium or high price category (fortunately, they last for a long time) or, even better, special ones for teenagers.

We have been taught from childhood that everything will pass in the sun, we boldly substitute our face – we are not afraid. But this is not entirely true. Outwardly visible and deceptive improvement in the condition of the skin is its defense reaction. At first it seems that there are fewer blackheads under the sunburn, and the relief is better.

Only the skin, when it becomes denser, does its best to protect itself from the harmful ultraviolet radiation, and when the solar period ends, exacerbations occur much more often and more severe. We know that this product is definitely ignored by teenagers. But still, do not be lazy to apply a light sunscreen or cream-veil on your face before going out in the sun.

Just remember that the composition should not contain oils and the label must be marked “oil free” and “non-comedogenic”.

Important! Girls, keep your makeup supplies clean. It is better to change them more often, wash the sponge once again, buy a spatula for the cream, and not take it out of the jar with your finger, than then suffer with inflammation on the skin.

If you do not know exactly what you need to care for you, go to a dermatologist or cosmetologist. Better – to a specialist in the problems of adolescence. He will correctly select all the necessary tools and write down the care scheme.

Life hack. Whatever type of skin, a teenager should have their own face towel, which is regularly renewed! Well, it is also advisable to change the pillowcase on the pillow more often.

It turns out that taking care of the face of a teenager is a whole science, but it is not so difficult if everything is properly organized, you are not lazy and you do not make mistakes. Most of the products can be bought in regular stores, the main thing is to pay attention to the composition, in no case do not use cosmetics that have expired and that helped a friend from acne.

Skin care for teenagers.Features, selection of products and care tips

face care teenagers acne problem skin

Many changes in the human body occur under the influence of hormones. The condition of the skin is no exception, because the hormonal background affects the activity of the sebaceous glands. In newborns, milia – whiteheads – are often observed precisely against the background of increased sebum secretion associated with hormonal changes in the body. By 6 months, the activity of the sebaceous glands decreases and such problems disappear before puberty.

The onset of adolescence is accompanied by constant changes in hormonal levels. At what age this will happen and what consequences it will have – it is impossible to predict. It depends on both hereditary factors and the individual characteristics of the organism.

The skin, as the largest organ in the body, is undergoing major changes. Most boys and girls between 15 and 19 years old suffer from acne of varying severity.

Hormones affecting the body:

  • Progesterone – regulates sleep, immunity and brain function
  • Estrogen – supports the production of collagen, which is responsible for elasticity and firmness
  • Androgens – regulate the sebaceous glands and hair growth
  • Dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA – protects against oxidative stress, which plays an important role in the prevention of aging
  • Growth hormone – human growth hormone, maintains muscle elasticity

Male hormones, known as androgens, are endocrine hormones that go directly into the bloodstream. They stimulate the activity of the sebaceous glands, since they biochemically force sebum (sebum) to be produced in greater quantities. Although androgens are “male” hormones, women also have them, but not in such quantities.

A significant proportion of circulating androgens are produced by the adrenal glands and testes (in men) or the ovaries (in women). Most androgens are also synthesized from dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). In addition to the sebaceous glands, other androgen-sensitive components of the skin include hair follicles and sweat glands.

These structures contain the enzymes needed to convert hormones into potent androgens – dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone. Dihydrotestosterone and testosterone are the main androgens that interact with the sebaceous glands.

Because boys have more testosterone, the main androgenic steroid hormone, than girls, they are more prone to acne during adolescence.

Regardless of whether pubertal skin becomes problematic or not, parents should help their puberty children find the right daily care. The need for regular care with the help of cosmetics is due to the fact that the structure of the epidermis changes with age. Baby skin is so delicate and soft due to regular renewal.

Old cells of the outer layer are peeled off, and new ones quickly come in their place. However, as you enter adolescence, the outer layer of the epidermis is renewed less and less. Thanks to this, the skin becomes more elastic and dense than before.

This enhances its protective function, but without thorough cleansing and moisturizing, the accumulation of dead cells can lead to clogged pores and inflammation.

Skin care for teenagers usually comes down to three main stages: cleansing, toning, moisturizing. You need to choose cosmetic products based on the characteristics and needs of each specific case.

Cleansing

If a small child had enough warm water to maintain cleanliness, then, starting from the age of about 13 years, cleansing should be carried out using a special tool – gel, foam, mousse.

Ordinary soap will not work: an aggressive alkaline environment destroys the protective lipid film, which can lead to increased sensitivity, dryness, and dehydration of the skin.

Specialty cosmetic products usually have a neutral or close pH and are therefore much less irritating.

It will be enough to wash your face twice a day: in the morning and in the evening. In the morning, it is necessary to cleanse the skin from the accumulation of sebum and sweat accumulated during sleep, and in the evening it is important to rid it of the dust and dirt accumulated during the day, mixed with sebum and the dead layer of the epidermis.

Bold / problematic type

It is characterized by excess sebum production all over the face.It is characterized by a noticeable oily sheen on the forehead, cheeks, nose, chin. Since inflammation occurs in particular due to the accumulation of dead cells on the surface of the skin, a cleanser containing components for micro exfoliation will be the most optimal.

  • Gels and foams with salicylic acid, zinc or willow bark extract will really cleanse your pores and get rid of excess oil.

Care for teenage skin: products, advice from cosmetologists

What remedies will save you from juvenile acne? Can Stretch Marks Be Prevented During A Hormone Burst? Experts answer the most popular questions about teen care.

We interviewed a dozen parents of teenagers and, in fact, teenagers themselves, and found out what aspects of skin care they care about the most.

Experts helped us to answer the questions:

  • Tiina Orasmäe-Meder , cosmetologist, co-author of the books Beauty Myths and Science of Beauty, creator of the Meder Beauty Science cosmetic brand.
  • Anna Pavlova , Isdin Medical Consultant.
  • Julia Krasnaya , officeMD, cosmetologist, dermatovenerologist, clinical laboratory diagnostician of the Gen87 clinic.

When is it time to start caring for your skin?

All experts agree that the right time is the start of puberty. In girls, when menstruation began. Boys – when the voice began to break and the first emissions appeared.

“At this time, adolescents usually come to the idea that they need to wash, brush their teeth and put on clean clothes not only because their mother requires it, but also because it suddenly becomes important for themselves.

I would advise you not to delay the discussion of this topic: if the child does not have time to talk with the parents and the beautician, he will talk with friends and top bloggers, and then the result can be unpredictable, ”says Tiina Orasmäe-Meder.

Yulia Krasnaya agrees that it is important not to miss the moment: “Teenage skin problems should not be underestimated. Its appearance affects the self-esteem and psycho-emotional state of the child. Proper care will help eliminate these problems, without bringing the situation to unpleasant consequences – scars and blemishes. “

Is the skin of adolescents different from adults?

During puberty, the endocrine system is rebuilt at an incredible rate. “Both boys and girls have increased testosterone levels. It is this hormone that is the trigger for increasing sebum production, ”says Anna Krasnaya.

“The sebaceous glands in adolescence are working at full capacity, the sebum is different from what we think is healthy. It can be more viscous or, conversely, more liquid.

Vessels are also going through a transformation stage, sweat glands work more actively. Hair quickly becomes oily, sweat takes on a pungent odor.

Physical activity, minimal stress, hot or spicy food, changes in temperature – all these can cause strong perspiration, ”says Tiina Orasmäe-Meder.

Is it different for boys and girls?

The general picture is the same for boys and girls. But since the amount of testosterone in boys is higher, the hyperproduction of sebum and a tendency to inflammation are more pronounced in them.

“Also, girls tend to start washing and grooming at the first sign of inflammation. For boys, this activity seems “girly”, so treatment often begins not at the initial stage of acne, ”notes Yulia Krasnaya.

What products should be in home care?

Purification is the most important step. It should be soft. The cream is microbiome-friendly and sebum-regulating. If necessary, you can use an anti-inflammatory serum.

Anna Pavlova draws attention: “It is worth remembering that if there is acne on the face, then in 80% of cases it has already appeared or will appear on the body. In this case, you need a body remedy that regulates the secretion of the sebaceous glands. ”

Yulia Krasnaya reminds that you cannot wash with soap. It creates an alkaline environment that is conducive to the development of bacteria.

Also during this period, due to rapid growth, there is a risk of stretch marks on the body. Unfortunately, there are no tools that can guarantee this.Anna Pavlova explains: “Stretch marks appear due to insufficient skin elasticity.

The degree of elasticity depends on genetic characteristics and physiological processes. That is, other things being equal, one will have stretch marks, the other will not. ” For prevention, moisturizers can be used – but this is not a panacea.

Which ingredients are good and which are bad?

Alcohol is absolutely contraindicated. Tiina Orasmäe-Meder also does not recommend products with triclosan and other antiseptics. In her experience, a good result is observed from products with green tea extract, silver mallow, Barbados and bitter aloe, agaricon mushroom, chamomile, calendula, vitamin B3, lactic acid and prebiotics.

For the treatment of acne, agents with salicylic and glycolic acid, retinol, or its derivatives are used. But it is better to entrust their choice to a specialist.

Do you need a beautician?

If possible, it is worth consulting a doctor, even for home care appointments. And be sure – if acne appears. Home care, again properly selected, can handle the first degree. If there are more than 10 comedones and inflammations on the face, this is already the second degree, in which complex treatment is needed. The third degree – more than 25 inflammations and comedones and up to five nodes larger than 5 mm in size.

But inflammation itself is not the only possible problem. “It is imperative to see a doctor if you notice that the child has begun to“ cleanse ”the skin on his own, scratches, abrasions, bruises, new inflammations appear on the face or other parts of the body.

Teenagers are fragile creatures. Dissatisfaction with one’s appearance can translate into a tendency to self-harm in a variety of ways. “Acne cleansing” is one of them.

In this case, it would be good to go not to a cosmetologist, but to a teenage psychotherapist, there is no need to be afraid of this, ”says Tiina Orasmäe-Meder.

Are salon treatments needed?

All experts are unanimous – procedures by a beautician are needed if home care does not help, and there is pronounced acne. Many in such a situation go to mechanical cleaning – this is wrong. It often leads to a worsening of the situation, the development of an infectious process and increases the risk of scar formation.

Tiina Orasmäe-Meder considers effective and modern procedures to be deep atraumatic skin cleansing, chemical peelings, procedures with prebiotics, apparatus treatments (IPL therapy, gas-liquid dermabrasion, hyperbaric action on the skin, microcurrent therapy).

Julia Krasnaya recommends Heleo4 photodynamic cellular cleansing – it has a cleansing and antibacterial effect.

Is it possible to give a child their own, “adult” means?

If a remedy is advertised as anti-age, then of course it shouldn’t be used. Although hardly anyone would think of it. Typically, anti-aging products stimulate collagen and elastin production, which young skin does not need.
