Natural remedy to stop diarrhea. Natural Remedies for Diarrhea: Effective Solutions for Digestive Relief
What are the most effective natural remedies for diarrhea. How can diet changes help alleviate diarrhea symptoms. Which foods and supplements can provide relief from diarrhea. What lifestyle modifications can prevent recurring diarrhea.
Understanding Diarrhea: Causes and Symptoms
Diarrhea is a common digestive issue characterized by loose, watery stools and increased frequency of bowel movements. It can be caused by various factors, including:
- Bacterial or viral infections
- Food intolerances
- Certain medications
- Stress and anxiety
- Poor diet
- Excessive alcohol consumption
While occasional diarrhea is usually not a cause for concern, chronic or severe cases can lead to dehydration and other complications. Understanding the underlying causes can help in finding the most effective natural remedies.
Dietary Changes to Alleviate Diarrhea
Making simple adjustments to your diet can significantly improve diarrhea symptoms. Consider implementing the following dietary changes:
The BRAT Diet
The BRAT diet is a time-tested approach to managing diarrhea. It consists of:
- Bananas
- Rice (white)
- Applesauce
- Toast (white bread)
These foods are easily digestible and can help firm up stools. Why is the BRAT diet effective? It provides low-fiber, binding foods that can help reduce bowel movements and replace lost nutrients.
Foods to Include
In addition to the BRAT diet, incorporate these foods to support digestive health:
- Oatmeal
- Millet
- Steamed leafy greens
- Plain yogurt with live cultures
- Boiled potatoes
Foods to Avoid
During bouts of diarrhea, steer clear of the following:
- Fatty and fried foods
- Spicy dishes
- Dairy products (except for yogurt with live cultures)
- Caffeine and alcohol
- Artificial sweeteners
Herbal Remedies and Natural Supplements
Nature offers a variety of herbs and supplements that can help alleviate diarrhea symptoms:
Ginger
Ginger has been used for centuries to treat digestive issues. How does ginger help with diarrhea? It contains compounds that can reduce inflammation in the intestines and help normalize bowel movements. Try sipping on fresh ginger tea or taking ginger supplements.
Peppermint
Peppermint has antispasmodic properties that can help relieve abdominal cramps associated with diarrhea. Drink peppermint tea or use peppermint oil capsules for relief.
Chamomile
Chamomile tea can soothe the digestive tract and reduce inflammation. It also has mild sedative properties that can help alleviate stress-related diarrhea.
Probiotics
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that support gut health. They can help restore the balance of good bacteria in the intestines, which is often disrupted during bouts of diarrhea. Look for probiotic supplements or consume probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut.
Hydration and Electrolyte Balance
Maintaining proper hydration is crucial when dealing with diarrhea. Frequent bowel movements can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. How can you stay hydrated during diarrhea?
- Drink plenty of clear fluids, such as water, clear broths, and electrolyte solutions
- Avoid sugary drinks and caffeine, which can worsen diarrhea
- Consider homemade oral rehydration solutions
Homemade Oral Rehydration Solution Recipe
Here’s a simple recipe for a homemade oral rehydration solution:
- 1 liter of clean water
- 6 teaspoons of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Optional: 1/2 cup of orange juice or mashed banana for potassium
Mix all ingredients thoroughly and sip throughout the day to replenish lost fluids and electrolytes.
Natural Binding Agents
Certain natural substances can help bind loose stools and provide relief from diarrhea:
Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is known for its ability to absorb toxins and can help reduce diarrhea symptoms. How does activated charcoal work? It binds to toxins and harmful substances in the digestive tract, preventing their absorption and helping to form firmer stools.
Psyllium Husk
Psyllium husk is a soluble fiber that can help bulk up stools and reduce diarrhea. It’s important to start with a small dose and increase gradually to avoid constipation.
Lifestyle Modifications for Diarrhea Prevention
Preventing diarrhea is often easier than treating it. Consider these lifestyle changes to reduce your risk of recurring diarrhea:
- Practice good hygiene, especially hand washing
- Cook foods thoroughly and avoid raw or undercooked meats
- Be cautious when traveling to areas with poor sanitation
- Manage stress through relaxation techniques or exercise
- Avoid known food triggers and allergens
When to Seek Medical Attention
While many cases of diarrhea can be managed at home with natural remedies, some situations require professional medical care. Seek medical attention if you experience:
- Severe abdominal pain
- High fever (over 102°F or 39°C)
- Blood in the stool
- Signs of severe dehydration (extreme thirst, dark urine, dizziness)
- Diarrhea lasting more than 3 days
Remember, these natural remedies are meant to complement, not replace, professional medical advice. Always consult with a healthcare provider for persistent or severe symptoms.
Integrating Natural Remedies into Your Routine
Incorporating natural remedies for diarrhea into your daily life can help prevent future episodes and promote overall digestive health. Here are some tips for integrating these remedies:
Create a Digestive Health Kit
Prepare a kit with essential natural remedies for quick access during diarrhea episodes. Include items such as:
- Ginger and peppermint tea bags
- Activated charcoal capsules
- Probiotic supplements
- Electrolyte powder packets
- A small bottle of peppermint essential oil
Develop a Gut-Friendly Meal Plan
Design a weekly meal plan that incorporates gut-friendly foods and probiotic-rich ingredients. This can help maintain a healthy digestive system and reduce the likelihood of diarrhea. Consider including:
- Fermented foods like kimchi and kombucha
- Fiber-rich fruits and vegetables
- Lean proteins and whole grains
- Bone broth for gut-healing properties
Practice Stress-Reduction Techniques
Since stress can trigger or exacerbate diarrhea, incorporating stress-reduction techniques into your daily routine can be beneficial. Try:
- Meditation or mindfulness exercises
- Deep breathing practices
- Yoga or gentle stretching
- Regular exercise
- Journaling or creative activities
Stay Informed About Medication Side Effects
If you’re taking any medications, be aware of potential side effects that may include diarrhea. Discuss alternatives with your healthcare provider if you experience persistent digestive issues.
Monitor Your Body’s Responses
Keep a food and symptom diary to identify potential triggers for your diarrhea. This can help you make informed decisions about your diet and lifestyle choices.
By integrating these natural remedies and preventive measures into your daily routine, you can take a proactive approach to managing and preventing diarrhea. Remember that consistency is key when it comes to maintaining digestive health.
As you explore these natural remedies, it’s important to listen to your body and adjust your approach as needed. What works for one person may not work for another, so be patient and willing to experiment with different combinations of remedies to find what works best for you.
Ultimately, a holistic approach that combines dietary changes, natural supplements, proper hydration, and lifestyle modifications can significantly improve your digestive health and reduce the frequency and severity of diarrhea episodes. By taking control of your digestive health through natural means, you can enjoy improved overall well-being and quality of life.
Natural Remedies To Combat Diarrhea
The human intestinal tract is a marvelous creation, in which our food is digested, water is absorbed, and waste is collected and eliminated. When our digestive system works well, we feel good. But when it works poorly, we can feel really lousy.
A common digestive problem is diarrhea, which can be caused by bacteria, excessive intake of oily and greasy foods, stress, inadequate friendly bacteria in the intestines, poor diet, excess alcohol, and many different types of pharmaceutical drugs. Diarrhea is uncomfortable, inconvenient, and often quite embarrassing.

Many Americans experience diarrhea due to the drugs they take. According to the National Institutes of Health, drugs that typically cause diarrhea include antibiotics, all laxatives, magnesium-based antacids, chemotherapy drugs, heartburn and stomach ulcer drugs (Tagamet, Zantac, Axid), and the common pain-reliving agents ibuprofen and naproxen. According to the FDA, the heartburn drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) (Dexilant, Nexium, Prilosec, Zegerid, Protonix) can cause severe enough diarrhea and gastric distress to eventually require surgical removal of part of the colon in some cases. If you are taking any of these and are experiencing diarrhea, speak with a holistic physician who can help you to get off these drugs and recommend something safer.
If you suffer from regular or chronic diarrhea, then the first thing to do is revisit what you are eating. Inadequate dietary fiber, high intake of fatty and fried foods, and insufficient intake of highly nutritious foods—such as whole grains and leafy green vegetables—can weaken your digestion and tend you toward diarrhea. Going to the bathroom too much, loose stools and watery elimination can occur. So first off, change your diet. Easy-to-digest grains like oatmeal and millet can help to re-stabilize digestion and elimination. Steamed leafy green vegetables can supply the minerals your bowels need for healthier function. Reducing or eliminating greasy and fried foods can also make your digestive tracts less slippery.

Probiotics, which are friendly bacteria necessary for proper digestion and elimination, can help to reduce or completely eradicate diarrhea. Live, active yogurts and live, probiotic supplements can help to colonize your digestive tract with bacteria that enhance digestion, improve overall intestinal health, form healthier stools, and control elimination. Take them regularly until you are back in balance. I recommend the Pearls IC probiotic by Enzymatic Therapy.
When you are experiencing diarrhea, charcoal capsules can help to stop the problem, and give you relief. Charcoal absorbs toxins and helps to slow down elimination. It’s safe and non-toxic, while working relatively quickly. Look for the the Activated Charcoal capsules from Nature’s Way.
Fresh ginger root tea, which is useful for a very broad range of health problems, can also help to reduce the discomfort of diarrhea. Tazo Teas makes a good organic ginger root tea. Eating green bananas can help as well, slowing down elimination. White rice – eaten plain – can slow down excessive elimination, and is filling.
Regular or chronic diarrhea means that something is wrong. If you are taking medications, find out if any of them can cause diarrhea. If you are eating greasy foods and little fresh produce, then a diet change is in order. Better food and a few natural remedies can help you to enjoy better digestion – and get you away from the bathroom—so you can enjoy life.

Throughout history, civilizations have compiled natural remedies for health and healing. But where should you begin sifting through this flood of possible solutions to solve the problem plaguing you? From supplements to herbs and plants to “kitchen cures” straight from your fridge and pantry, Meredith Hale’s book Home Remedies (Wellfleet Press, 2015) is a collection of the best cures for common ailments. Whether you’re plagued by fever, toothaches, insomnia, or anything in between, this book contains a comprehensive and unique list of natural fixes for your illness.
Diarrhea
Diarrhea refers to watery, loose bowel movements. It’s often caused by a virus and referred to as the “stomach flu”; however, other causes include bacterial infection, food allergies, side effects from medications, and more chronic conditions like irritable bowel syndrome. In addition to loose stools, diarrhea can cause bloating, abdominal cramps, nausea, and a feeling of having to go — right now! Over-the- counter medications exist to treat diarrhea, or you can let it run its course, which may take two to three days. However, to soothe the symptoms and speed recovery naturally, try one of these simple approaches.
Black Tea
The tannins in tea help to reduce intestinal inflammation, and black tea can help to rehydrate you after a bout of diarrhea. Let the tea steep for fifteen minutes and drink as necessary to ease symptoms.
Blackberries
Like black tea, blackberries also contain astringent tannins that can ease the symptoms of diarrhea. You can buy blackberry tea or make your own by boiling 1 to 2 tablespoons of blackberries in 1-1⁄2 cups water for ten minutes and then straining. Or, you can pour 1 cup of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of dried blackberry leaves. Steep for ten minutes and then strain.
Probiotics
If bacteria are to blame for your digestive troubles, probiotics can repopulate the digestive tract with “good” bacteria. Look for probiotic supplements, or add probiotic-containing foods such as kefir or yogurt (containing “live active cultures”) to your diet. Also add probiotics to your diet when taking antibiotics, to maintain the balance of bacteria in your digestive system.
The BRAT Diet
After diarrhea, it’s often a good idea to stick to bland, binding foods to help ease your way back to normal digestion. BRAT is an acronym for bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. These foods are low-fiber, making for firmer stools; in addition, the potassium in bananas can help to replace lost nutrients. Follow this diet for the first twenty-four to forty-eight hours after diarrhea, and then begin to re-introduce other foods into your meals.

How To Treat Baby Diarrhea Using Natural Remedies
Tetra Images / Getty Images
As distressing as it is for parents to observe, diarrhea is a very common problem in babies and and It is usually mild and brief. A baby has diarrhea if they have more bowel movements than usual, and if stools are less formed and more watery. Sometimes babies with diarrhea have other symptoms, such as fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, cramps, and blood and/or mucus in the bowel movement. According to Mayo Clinic, it may be caused by bacterial or viral infections, Celiac disease or other food allergies, inflammation of the digestive tract or irritable bowel syndrome.
When the diarrhea is not severe enough to take the infant to the doctor, there are home remedies that parents can use to decrease diarrhea and make the child feel better. If diarrhea persists or becomes more severe, or is accompanied by a fever, notify your pediatrician immediately: babies can become dehydrated very quickly. Diarrhea may take 2 days to 2 weeks to treat but If not given immediate attention, it may lead to dehydration which is harmful for babies.
Effective Home Remedies To Stop Diarrhea in Babies
Let your baby drink breast milk.
One of the best home remedies for baby diarrhea is breast milk. Mothers who are already breastfeeding their infants shouldn’t stop when a baby has diarrhea, because breast milk combats diarrhea and speeds up the recovery. Breast milk is rich in antibodies that help keep the baby’s immune system robust, thus minimizing the risk of infections that can cause diarrhea. If you are formula feeding and your baby’s diarrhea continues for more than two weeks, you may need to make a change in formula. You should discuss this with your baby’s doctor.
Try starchy food.
Foods that contain a lot of starch are more easily digested than other foods during diarrhea. If your baby is over 6 months old, continue with solid foods. Potatoes are a great source of starch and safe for babies to eat. Boil them (plain) and then mash them up. Bananas help to restore the potassium levels and help the body to absorb the essential nutrients and energy which is majorly lost during diarrhea. Applesauce and rice cereal are also good options.
Foods and fluids with higher sugar content, such as juice, cookies, cakes and sodas, can contribute to the diarrhea by pulling more fluid into the intestines, causing the excess fluid and sugar to come out the other end quickly.
Prepare an oral rehydration solution for babies over 2 months of age.
An oral rehydration solution (ORS) is a mixture of water, salts and sugar in specific amounts. These solutions can be absorbed even when your child has large amounts of diarrhea or is vomiting. Oral rehydration solutions can be used to keep children well hydrated when they have significant amounts of diarrhea. Oral rehydration solutions are also available at pharmacies in ready-to-serve preparations. It is best to buy an ORS that has already been mixed.
Prevention
Frequent hand washing is your best defense, because the microorganisms that cause diarrhea are easily passed from hand to mouth. Handling a soiled diaper, for instance, can transfer these microorganisms to your hands before you wipe your baby’s mouth. Make sure to boil bottles and equipment for breastmilk or formula and throw away breastmilk or formula left in the bottle after each feeding. Your baby can also catch a diarrhea-causing infection from putting his fingers in his mouth after touching toys or other objects that have been contaminated with the stool of an infected child. Also, be sure to follow safe food preparation and cooking practices.

4 Helpful Remedies: How to Naturally Stop Cat Diarrhea
Cat diarrhea, pee-ew! It can be an absolute nightmare, especially if it’s chronic or extreme. The problem with it is that we know something’s wrong but it can be hard to tell what’s actually causing the issue. So, what’s the remedy for stopping your cat from having diarrhea? Obviously, our fluffy friends lack the ability to communicate using language, so sometimes we have to do a little detective work to figure out what’s causing this gastrointestinal disturbance. Hopefully, it’s not that serious, and if we’re lucky we can try to use a natural remedy to give them some relief (from relieving themselves).
What Is Cat Diarrhea?
Unfortunately, diarrhea is a universal problem for all mammals. As we know it’s no picnic, and I’m sure cats agree. It’s sad to see your cat in discomfort or pain from diarrhea, so what exactly is going on? Is cat diarrhea anything more than loose feces? Allow us to explain this messy subject.
Like humans, your cat’s digestive tract is built up of different sections. Their colon is the last part of their gastrointestinal tract. Food material that enters the colon has been largely digested; meaning, it’s pretty much fecal matter. Part of the colon’s job is to absorb vital fluids from feces and further process waste for elimination.
Essentially, if your cat’s colon absorbs enough liquid, then their feces will come out solid and healthy. If they don’t absorb enough water, then the feces will have a higher volume of liquid and it will come out wet or loose (hopefully it’s in the litter box). Diarrhea tends to happen when the body tries to expel fecal matter too quickly.
Although diarrhea comes from the colon (or rushes through it), it doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with the colon. It could be from a number of things, paying attention to what type of diarrhea your cat has could prove useful for you or your veterinarian.
Is it Acute or Chronic?
If you notice your furry feline is experiencing diarrhea pay attention to when it started. Hopefully, it is just an episode or two, but if it is persistent you may have a chronic problem. That being said, let’s take a look at the two basic kinds of cat diarrhea.
Acute Diarrhea
This means that the onset of diarrhea started suddenly and ended fairly quickly. In other words, it’s a shorter event that is usually punctuated by a definite beginning and end.
Chronic Diarrhea
This means that diarrhea in your cat is more of a constant problem. There is no definite beginning or end to their episodes of gastrointestinal distress, and more than likely it’s a symptom of a chronic underlying problem.

Although both types of diarrhea can be potentially serious, chronic diarrhea more likely needs veterinary treatment. This is especially true if you tried any home remedies and your cat’s condition hasn’t improved or even gotten worse.
When Should You Contact the Veterinarian?
Does your cat have diarrhea? Make sure to monitor it. If you answer yes to any of the following questions, don’t hesitate to take it to the vet.

- Has your cat had diarrhea for more than two days in a row?
- Is your cat is very young, very old, or vulnerable to dehydration?
- Is diarrhea present in large quantities, is it frequent, or explosive?
- Does your cat’s stool contain lots of blood or is it very tarry and dark?
- Is your cat exhibiting other serious symptoms, like vomiting, weakness, and/or pain?
What Causes Diarrhea in Cats?
According to Forest Gump, S**t happens, but why does diarrhea happen? Remember, diarrhea is not an independent disorder; it is an overlying symptom of one or more underlying disorders. In fact, it’s one of the more common symptoms, meaning that it may be indicative of a wide variety of potentially serious diseases. As a result, be sure you use your best judgment when dealing with your cat’s health.
That being said, let’s take a look at the more common reasons for cat diarrhea:
- Systemic or overall illness
- Abrupt changes in dietary intake
- Increased levels of stress/anxiety or serious changes in the cat’s environment and/or routine
- Liver and/or kidney disease
- Pancreatic disease
- An irritated or hypersensitive gastrointestinal tract (an upset stomach)
- Consuming garbage and/or rotten food
- Consuming nonfood or foreign bodies
- Adrenal glands that do not function properly (Addison’s disease)
- Intestinal blockage
- Primary inflammatory disorders
- Thyroid disease and/or imbalance
- Constipation – this may seem weird, but older cats have a tendency to react to constipation by expelling watery stools around the obstruction
- Infection (viral, bacterial, or fungal)
- Various parasites, especially ticks and/or fleas
- Various toxins and/or drugs
As you can see, there are so many different reasons that your cat can get diarrhea. In many cases, you’ll have to take your pet into a veterinarian in order to properly diagnose the underlying condition. However, this is usually only necessary if the condition is particularly serious and/or consistent. If it’s not too serious you might be able to stop your cat’s diarrhea naturally.
What Are the Symptoms?
Besides the consistency and frequency of your cat’s bowel movements, there are a number of symptoms associated with cat diarrhea, including:
- A higher than usual volume of water in your cat’s feces
- A higher than usual volume of actual feces
- Accidental or uncontrolled defecation
- Vomiting
- Depression
- Mucus and/or blood in your cat’s feces
- Straining or effort when defecating
- Fatigue, weakness, or listlessness
- Elevated body core temperature (fever)
- Pain in the abdomen or torso
- Potential anorexia
Remember that diarrhea is not really a disease itself, but rather a symptom indicating there’s a problem. In fact, it is formally known as a non-specific symptom, which means that it’s quite common and is usually used in conjunction with other symptoms in order to make an accurate diagnosis.
Because diarrhea is usually the sign of another issue, it is extremely rare that it is the only symptom. It is almost always accompanied by one or more of the symptoms listed above. If you’re lucky, the issue won’t be too serious and hopefully, you can stop your cat’s diarrhea naturally by using one of the following remedies.
Natural Remedies for an Upset Stomach
Whether it’s a bug, food sensitivity, stress, or something else that’s ailing you, when you feel sick to your stomach, what you want is simple: to make it go away—quickly. These nine stomachache remedies swoop in to the rescue. They all hail from nature, and they’re easily accessible and inexpensive.
No matter what the root cause—a bug, food sensitivity, stomach flu, stress, food allergies, constipation, morning sickness, or something else that’s ailing you—when you have an upset stomach, you want it to stop hurting and fast. Although there’s no silver bullet to stop a stomachache, there are a handful of soothing foods and natural remedies helpful for an upset stomach.
All nine of these are inexpensive and, chances are, you either keep most of these items stocked in your kitchen, or you can easily employ these techniques as soon as you need them.
1. Shoot Apple Cider Vinegar Mixed with Water
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is one of the great neutralizers. Made by fermenting the sugar from apples, ACV promotes alkalinity, and, in turn, alleviates nausea. It can also reduce gas and bloating, and mitigate heartburn.
Mix a tablespoon of ACV into room-temperature water. If you can’t tolerate the sour flavor, use less water, hold your nose so you can’t taste it, and shoot the mixture back in a few seconds. If you enjoy the flavor, use more water and sip it at your leisure.
2. Drink Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe vera juice helps with acid indigestion, heartburn, constipation, and other stomach issues. Try drinking 2 ounces at a time—up to 8 ounces in a day—and see how your body reacts. Because aloe vera juice is a natural laxative, drinking too much may cause you to go to the bathroom more.
3. Sip Ginger or Peppermint Tea
Ginger and peppermint are some of the best foods for upset stomach and can help relieve symptoms of nausea, morning sickness, and abdominal discomfort. A review of six studies of 500 pregnant women found that ingesting 1 gram of fresh ginger daily was linked with five times less nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Researchers have found that peppermint relaxes the muscles in the digestive tract and therefore reduces the severity of intestinal muscle spasms that can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea, particularly in people with irritable bowel syndrome, which is a chronic gut disorder that can cause stomach pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation.
You can add fresh ginger or mint to a variety of recipes, or you can drink it in herbal teas. Purchase pre made tea bags and dunk them in hot water. Or, to make homemade tea with fresh herbs, steep a few chunks of ginger root, or a few mint sprigs, in 8 ounces of boiling water for two to five minutes. If you want to unlock additional oils from the herbs while the tea steeps, press them with a muddler, which is a tool that’s used to release flavors.
4. Apply Heat or Take a Warm Bath
Applying heat to your stomach or immersing yourself in warm water (also known as hydrotherapy) can increase circulation and relax the muscles to reduce tightness or cramps. Use a warm towel or a microwaveable compress—either store bought or make your own by filling a clean sock or pillowcase with uncooked rice—and microwave it on high for a minute or two. If you’re taking a warm bath, add 1 to 2 cups of Epsom salt to the water and stay in the bath for 15 to 20 minutes to help draw out any inflammation.
5. Eat Fennel
Fennel, a flowering plant species in the carrot family, supports digestion, and reduces gas, bloating, cramping, and nausea from an upset stomach. The vegetable has a sweet anise or licorice flavor. It’s indigenous to the shores of the Mediterranean, but it’s grown around the world and you can find it in most grocery stores. Eat it raw, roast it in the oven, steep it in boiling water to make a tea, or crunch on fennel seeds.

6. Be Sure You’re Hydrated
Dehydration impairs digestion, making it more difficult and less effective, which can cause stomach cramping and nausea. Hydration is important for overall health. If you experience an upset stomach during or following exercise, or you have an illness that’s causing you to vomit, it’s especially important to drink more water or beverages that contain electrolytes—sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and phosphate.
Coconut water, a natural alternative to manmade electrolyte drinks, is high in potassium, and also contains sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, and vitamin C. You can also make your own rehydration drink at home by adding 1 teaspoon of sea salt and 4 teaspoons of organic cane sugar to 1 liter of water. Sea salt is rich in electrolytes and trace minerals, and sugar is a simple carbohydrate that helps with quick electrolyte absorption.
Although some say you should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day, there really isn’t a one-size-fits-all rule when it comes to hydration. People who are more active may need to drink more. People with thyroid disease or kidney, liver, or heart problems may need to drink less. It’s important to work with your health care practitioner to understand how much water you need each day.
7. Massage Your Stomach While Taking Deep Breaths
Muscle constriction and constipation may cause stomach cramps. Gently massaging your abdomen can increase circulation and encourage elimination. While massaging, focus on the parts of your stomach that feel sore, and take care to not push or rub too hard. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth to help relax your stomach muscles and guide your mind away from the pain. A study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology revealed that deep breathing can alleviate acid reflux.
8. Drink Baking Soda in Water
The primary ingredient in many over-the-counter antacids is sodium bicarbonate, which is more commonly known as baking soda. If you have indigestion or feel nauseated, it’s easy and inexpensive to make your own antacid remedy at home to neutralize pH balance in the body. Simply stir 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda into 4 ounces of warm water, and slowly drink the solution as a natural remedy for an upset stomach.
9. Practice Stress-Reduction Techniques
The biochemical and hormonal changes that result from emotional stress can negatively impact digestive health. When you’re under mild, anxiety-induced stress, you might report feeling like you have a “pit in your gut” or “butterflies in your stomach.” With more severe stress, you might experience indigestion, constipation, bloating, gas, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Chronic stress may contribute to the onset or worsening of more severe digestive problems, such as inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and stomach ulcers.
To help relieve or even prevent stomach challenges, do your best to manage stress through whatever stress-reduction technique works best for you—exercising, stretching, meditating, spending time outdoors, doing something creative, or breathing deeply.
The next time you need upset stomach relief, try one or several of these natural home remedies to soothe your digestive tract and alleviate the abdominal pain. If the pain persists, visit your health care practitioner so they can help determine if other stomachache remedies are needed to get you back to feeling your best.

Effective Home Remedies to Stop Diarrhea in Babies | by Buding Star
Effective Home Remedies to Stop Diarrhea in Babies
Diarrhea or loose motion is bacterial infections accompanied by cramps, blood in stools and even sometimes fever. It is a stomach disorder characterized by frequent and very soft or watery bowel movements. The baby becomes very upset and weak and hence it becomes very complicated for mommies to face this difficult situation. Therefore, in this blog, we will understand the causes of diarrhea, its effect along with its symptoms and most importantly we will discuss the effective home remedies to stop diarrhea in babies (for the babies above the age of 6 months).
Diarrhea or loose motion in babies is the condition when a baby passes its stools frequently being watery in nature and more than three times in a day. If a baby is passing stools like fine paste, normal in color and even frequently then it is not a sign of diarrhea.
Usually, it is cured by itself within 2–3 days without any medical help, but if it does not cure by maximum four days then it is good to consult pediatrician (or child specialist) immediately.
The causes of diarrhea can be the following:
- Infection: An infection with a virus, bacteria or even with parasites. Babies are very much prone to the infections as they pick up the germs through their toys or either though the contact of surface. So therefore, they get infected quickly due to the virus and bacteria.
- Food Allergy: A food allergy can also be a cause of diarrhea. A food allergy happens when a baby consumes any unhygienic food. For example, Cerelac or any formula milk is always been advised to give immediately after the formation, but if we overlook this instruction and give this supplement after the long duration of its formation time, then our baby can get ill or allergic.
- Drinking too much fruit juice: There is a very famous saying that an excess of anything is harmful too. So it goes with the consumption of fruit juices too. Most of the mommies prefer to give their babies much fruit juices to drink within a short interval of time. This causes a discomfort in baby’s tummy and results in diarrhea. So prefer giving whole fruit instead of fruit juice.
- Teething: Teething phase is quite painful for the babies. They get fussier as because of the soreness and swelling of gums. During this phase, gums produce more saliva which gets into their guts and hence loosen the stools. This causes diarrhea.
- Weather Change : A small change in weather for babies can result in loose motion too. If the baby is habitual of living hot weather then an even a minor drop in temperature can give him a frequent bowel movement and it goes for the same for those who are living in cold regions. This happens because when the weather gets changed for the babies, it takes a bit of time to get accustomed to a new weather and new foods.
Diarrhea if overlooked, then can lead to several complications in babies and sometimes for an adult too. It can give the major issues like:
- Dehydration.Dehydration is nothing but the loss of excess water from our body. As during diarrhea, frequent bowel movement takes up the water from our body in excess quantity, which leads to dehydration.
- Diaper Rash. Babies develop diaper rash from frequent pooping and wiping. Diaper rashes can get sore and itchiness to the baby’s sensitive skin.
The symptoms associated with diarrhea include:
- Abdominal Cramps.
- Abdominal pains.
- The urgency to go to the toilet.
- Frequent passing of loose and watery stools.
- Nausea.
- Vomiting.
Now we will discuss Home Remedies to stop Diarrhea in Babies.

There are many useful herbs and remedies for diarrhea and dysentery. These remedies, in conjunction with medical care yield better results.
Water – Water is the first and foremost home remedy for dysentery. When you have dysentery you will be passing watery stools. Your body will be losing all the water from your body. You need to replace it on regular basis for recovery and also to keep yourself hydrated. Drink lot of water.
Electrolytes – You also lose lot of electrolytes from your body. Therefore you need to regularly take oral rehydrating solutions (ORS) by mixing electrolyte or pedialyte or rehydralyte which is available easily in the stores.
Yoghurt – is the best one for dysentery. It has good and gut-friendly bacteria in it which fights against bad bacteria present in the colon. It helps producing lactic acid in the intestines which kills the bad bacteria. When these bacteria get killed your recovery will be faster. When you are suffering from dysentery, you will feel better once you start taking lot of yoghurt. Like a typical Indian, you might also try taking yoghurt with rice adding pinch of salt for taste.
Curds and Buttermilk – Curds and Buttermilk are said to be the best remedy in Ayurveda for all the colon disorders. Like curds or yoghurt, it will help to encourage intestinal friendly bacteria in the stomach to grow well and help you recover from dysentery. 10-15ml of Castor oil mixed in 1 glass (150-200ml) of hot water, 2-3 spoon of ginger juice should be added to the mixture and served hot. 1 spoon lemon juice can also be added to beat the smell of castor oil.

Take 1 teaspoon of this mixture to 2 teaspoons of psyllium husk and a pinch of rock salt. Consume this with buttermilk in the morning. Take the same mixture mixed in lukewarm water in the later part of the day.

90,000 TOP-15 drugs for cystitis – rating of good remedies 2021
Cystitis – inflammation of the bladder. It is accompanied by frequent urge and discomfort during urination. It usually occurs in the presence of a bacterial infection, but can also be the result of damage or irritation of the bladder. Both men and women suffer, and the latter, due to the anatomical structure, usually face this disease much more often.
The functions of the bladder completely determine its structure and position in the body. The organ is located in the lower part of the pelvis in the retroperitoneal space behind the pubic region.
The bladder is a muscular organ that:
- is hollow inside, and its walls consist of several layers;
- smooth muscles cover the upper body of the bladder: they are longitudinal on the outside, round in the center, and reticular on the inside;
- muscles are responsible for shrinking the walls of the bladder;
- permeated with a dense network of blood vessels feeding the organ;
- inside is the mucous membrane of the transitional epithelium.
In our body, the bladder plays the role of a reservoir, which stores fluid, cleared by the kidneys, and then removes it. Along with water, unnecessary substances leave the body from the body – surplus that cannot be processed, as well as poisons and toxins.
Classification of drugs
For cystitis, drugs of the following groups are prescribed:
- Antibacterial (fluoroquinolones, phosphonic acid derivatives, penicillin derivatives, cephalosporin series).Antibiotics kill the bacteria that cause the disease. In the acute form of the disease, antibacterial drugs of a wide spectrum of action are prescribed.
- Uroantiseptics. They have antibacterial, antifungal, antiprotozoal and antiviral efficacy. Pathogenic microorganisms practically do not develop resistance to drugs of this group.
- Antifungal. They are prescribed for cysts of fungal origin and are widely used to prevent the addition of a fungal infection.
- Antiviral. Necessary for the treatment of viral diseases. Appointed only after diagnosis.
- Antispasmodic. Relaxes smooth muscles, which helps to relieve pain and relieve stagnation of infected urine.
- Pain relievers and anti-inflammatory. Designed to eliminate inflammation and relieve symptoms. Helps to facilitate urination by emptying the bladder completely.
In the ranking below, we have collected the best medicines for the treatment of cystitis. Please note that the key to effective therapy is prior consultation with a doctor. Only a specialist can determine the type of disease and prescribe the correct drug by conducting a comprehensive examination.
Reasons for development
Many consider cystitis to be an exclusively female disease, but this opinion is erroneous. Due to anatomical features, in men, this disease develops much less often – which is about 5% of cases.
Causes of infectious cystitis:
- incomplete emptying of the bladder;
- pressure on the bladder due to pregnancy;
- improper use of toilet paper (back to front).
The causes of irritation or damage to the bladder in non-infectious cystitis are hormonal changes, dehydration, and smoking abuse. What matters is the quality of the hygiene products used. The disease can develop against the background of diabetes and after the installation of a catheter.
Among the predisposing factors, one should single out a general decrease in immunity, a violation of the blood supply processes due to a sedentary lifestyle. Also, do not forget about personal hygiene and the fact that you need to empty the bladder on time. Most often, the disease occurs in the spring.
