Can Alcohol Cause A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

If you are prone to urinary tract infections (UTIs) and struggle to limit your alcohol consumption, then you may wonder if drinking too much can cause a UTI. After all, some people get UTI symptoms after drinking alcohol.

While alcohol does not directly cause UTIs, it can raise your risk of getting a UTI, as well as worsen your symptoms. Sometimes, alcohol use can even mimic the symptoms of a UTI, making you feel like you have an infection when you don’t have one. Additionally, avoid alcohol use with medications that treat UTIs.

Article at a Glance:

To recap, there are several important points to remember about alcohol and UTIs:

  • Alcohol cannot cause UTIs, which are only caused by bacteria
  • Alcohol can impair your immune system, which might raise your risk of a UTI
  • Sexual activity can also raise your risk of a UTI
  • Alcohol can also irritate your bladder, making UTI symptoms seem worse
  • Some antibiotics for UTI should not be taken with alcohol
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist if it is safe to drink while being treated for a UTI
  • Alcohol can also cause other bladder problems, like bladder irritation without an infection

Does a Painful Bladder After Drinking Alcohol Mean I Have a UTI?

Discomfort in the bladder is known as cystitis. Cystitis can develop from a few different causes, the most common of which is UTI. You will likely suffer from unmistakable symptoms when you have cystitis. Some cystitis symptoms include:

  • Discomfort in the pelvis
  • Pain when urinating
  • Needing to urinate often
  • Feeling like you need to urinate right away
  • Abnormal color or smell in the urine

However, there is a difference between bladder discomfort and a UTI. Your bladder may bother you for reasons that are not due to infection. Often, having a UTI can lead to you having bladder discomfort or pain. Other substances, like alcohol, can also irritate the bladder lining and cause bladder discomfort. Therefore, a painful bladder after drinking alcohol does not always mean that you have a UTI. Your symptoms could be due to alcohol irritating your bladder. Regardless, if you think you may have a UTI, contact your doctor. If left untreated, a UTI can turn into a more severe infection.

Why Does Alcohol Make My Bladder Hurt?

Alcohol use can make your bladder hurt even if you do not have a UTI. The pain occurs because alcohol is highly acidic. In turn, the acid can irritate your bladder lining. The bladder irritation from alcohol is similar to how you may feel when you have a UTI, so it is easy to confuse the two feelings. One study shows that lowering your intake of irritating (acidic) beverages like alcohol may improve your urinary health.

Does Alcohol Cause UTIs?

While alcohol cannot directly cause a UTI, alcohol consumption may raise your risk of getting a UTI, for a few different reasons.

All UTIs are caused by bacteria which irritate and inflame the bladder. Alcohol cannot create bacteria in your bladder; therefore alcohol cannot directly cause a UTI. However, alcohol use is associated with other activities that can move bacteria closer to your bladder and cause UTI, like sexual activity. One study shows that there is an indirect relationship between alcohol use and UTI in some women because there was a relationship between alcohol use and sexual activity.

Alcohol can also harm your immune system. Alcohol interferes with many of the different immune system cells and chemical signals. A weaker immune system makes it hard for your body to fight an infection like a UTI. Research shows that you have a higher risk of getting infections if you drink alcohol.

Can I Drink Alcohol If I Have a UTI?

If you have a UTI, you are probably taking antibiotic drugs to kill the bacteria in your bladder. However, mixing alcohol and antibiotics is not safe.

One of the most common antibiotics used for UTI is called Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim). Taking Bactrim with alcohol can lead to uncomfortable side effects, including:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Feeling short of breath
  • Low blood pressure when you stand up

If you are prescribed Bactrim for a UTI, it is important to avoid alcohol. You should also avoid drinking alcohol for three full days after you have completed your Bactrim medication regimen. Waiting for several days before drinking alcohol will allow the Bactrim to clear from your system so you can avoid the side effects listed above.

What to Eat and Drink When You Have a UTI

If you want to see what pure fear looks like, then say “UTI” to a group full of women. The painful, nauseating symptoms from a urinary tract infection will creep back into their minds and make them relive the unpleasant time they had until their antibiotics kicked in.

Although men can have urinary tract infections as well, they are more commonly diagnosed in women. UTIs occur when bacteria enters the urinary tract through the urethra and begins to multiply in the bladder.

Symptoms include consistent urge to urinate, a burning sensation when urinating, passing only small amounts of urine, which can be cloudy, red or bright pink (watch out, that is a sign of blood in your urine), unpleasant smelling urine and pelvic pain.

Being that women are more than likely to get more than one UTI in their lifetime, it is no surprise that I have had my fair share of them. Now I can live to tell the tale of how AWFUL and REAL those symptoms are.

I have learned tons of tricks to make the infection not as torturous throughout my lifetime. While there are medicines and painkillers that can help diminish the pain from this pesky infection, taking too much medication after awhile, like antibiotics, can become harmful to your body. Sometimes changing your diet can be the simple solution.

Next time you have a UTI load up on these foods and drinks so you can help kick that infection right out of your body:

Water

Christin Urso

Stop what you are doing and drink a large glass of water. Now. The best way to get the infection out of your system is by drinking liquids to flush it out. Water is the best option for this being that it does not contain anything to irritate the infection.

It is recommended that you drink 6 to 8, 8 oz. glasses of water a day to make sure that your body is flushing out any harmful bacteria that may be hanging out in your bladder.

Cranberry Juice

Abby Cote

Cranberry juice is one of the more popular, go-to drinks when you have a UTI. While cranberry juice won’t magically cure your infection (sigh, if only), it is thought that it can help prevent the bacteria from spreading.

According to researchers, cranberries contain substances that prevent infection-causing bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract walls. However, since multiple studies do not show clear evidence of cranberry juice being a cure to UTIs, this is one of those things that you will have to try yourself to see if it makes a difference in your body.

If you are not a huge fan of cranberry juice, or you just have used it too many times as a chaser to drink it without alcohol, then pick up some cranberry pills. These pills also help prevent UTIs by having anti-adhesion properties within the antioxidants.

Yogurt

Alex Frank

When you have a UTI and you’re on some heavy-duty antibiotics, you need probiotics immediately. Probiotics are seen as “good” bacteria that can help balance the “bad” bacteria, while helping to improve symptoms that occur with UTIs.

Luckily, yogurt is a food that is rich in probiotics. Try to eat yogurts that are unsweetened. If you are in debate on which kind of yogurt to buy, then find out the difference between regular and Greek yogurt in this article.

Garlic

Kai Huang

Who would’ve thought that garlic could help cure your UTI? Garlic contains compounds that can kill bacteria, including those that cause a UTI.

Instead of chowing down on a raw piece of garlic, try making a cup of garlic tea. Peel and mash a couple of fresh garlic cloves, then place them into warm water. Let the cloves steep for five minutes before drinking. I know, this drink sounds disgusting. But when you have a UTI you will be willing to do anything to get rid of it.

It is also noted by doctors that you should avoid certain drinks and foods as well. Drinking citrus drinks, tomato juice, coffee and alcohol can make urinating more painful. You should also avoid any spicy foods, acidic fruits and chocolate.

Having a UTI is one of those things that no one wants to have but it somehow always creeps back into our lives. If you have never had a UTI—wow, you are blessed—then make sure you read up on how to prevent from ever getting one.

Stay healthy, everyone.

A guide to the best and worst drinks if you suffer from UTIs

Top 5 worst offenders

Not only are there certain drinks that could be making your symptoms worse, but if you are drinking more of these, then it’s most likely you’re drinking less of what you should be drinking! Let’s run through some of the drink options you’re better off avoiding:

1.

Fizzy drinks – even the diet varieties!

Most people know by now that fizzy drinks are loaded with sugar, but the diet varieties are fine – right? Wrong! Fizzy drinks aren’t recommended at all if you suffer from recurrent cystitis. With all the sugar in the regular varieties you’ll risk boosting the bad bacteria at the root of the problem – these will happily feast on all that refined sugar. Then, when it comes to the diet varieties, they often contain a whole host of artificial sweeteners and additives not to mention caffeine in many cases which can all irritate the bladder making it much more susceptible to infection.

2. Coffee

Coffee is loaded with caffeine so not a good choice if you suffer from recurrent infections. Caffeine acts as an irritant to the urinary tract, but it also acts as a mild diuretic which can leave you running to the loo more often.  Opt for tasty coffee alternatives such as Bambu if you’re in the habit of a morning brew.

3.

Fruit Juice

We’ll discuss cranberry juice in more detail in the next section, but generally, your morning glass of fruit juice could be doing your bladder more harm than good. Fruit juices are often loaded with sugar as all the fibre has been removed, so, this sugar spike could potentially encourage bacteria to grow which isn’t good news if you suffer from recurrent UTIs. Have some whole fruit instead, or opt for lacto-fermented juice varieties instead such as Biotta.

4. Wine

For a number of reasons, your favourite alcohol tipple could be causing havoc with your bladder. Again, alcohol acts as an irritant to the bladder but it also dehydrates you super fast, so you could wake up the next day feeling a little worse for wear! Concentrated urine certainly won’t help to keep those infections at bay, and many varieties of alcoholic drinks have lots of added sugar too, which will only add to the problem.

5. Cow’s Milk

The jury’s out on dairy, but generally it can be classed as pro-inflammatory in the body and many people are sensitive to milk. If cystitis symptoms are getting you down, try decreasing your consumption of milk and see how you get on.

Top 5 to include more of…

Now that we know what to avoid, what should you be drinking more of to help keep those symptoms at bay?

1. Water

I can’t stress enough the importance of water. Out of everything, water is most likely to make the biggest difference to your symptoms and we need to drink more of it – simple! Aim to drink 1.5l of water a day, and not the fizzy varieties as mentioned above. If you aren’t used to the plain taste why not try adding some sliced fruit such as lemon (this isn’t ‘acid producing’ contrary to popular belief so will be just fine), or pop in a sachet of our Balance Mineral Drink to help further support the pH balance in the body.

2. Molkosan

Talking about adding things to water, Molkosan is one of my firm favourites! By adding a splash of Molkosan to your water you’ll be ensuring you get a good dose of L+ lactic acid which will help to support the balance of bacteria throughout the digestive tract. A strong force to be reckoned with when it comes to those strains of bad bacteria trying to settle in! By supporting your gut, you can help prevent infections in and around the urinary tract too.

3. Cranberry juice

I’ve explained why you need to be wary of fruit juice but, when it comes to cranberry juice, this is the exception. Watch out though, some varieties still have added sugar which we don’t want, but a good quality juice, or even better a cranberry supplement, may help to protect against recurrent infections.

4. Herbal Teas

As we’ve mentioned, caffeine is a no-go, so coffee and even tea should be limited if you’re struggling to keep those infections under control. But, don’t worry, I know how comforting a warming cuppa can be so there are other options out there. Opt for Roobios for a nice caffeine-free alternative to regular tea or why not try some Golden Rod Tea if you want a combination of herbs that are more directly going to help support your urinary tract.

5. Apple cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has a number of proposed benefits and supporting your bladder and urinary tract could be one of them. Choose a good quality product that contains the ‘mother’ for best effects. The combination of the fermented goodness (think good bacteria again) plus lots of vitamins and minerals that can help support the pH of the urinary tract and keep those infections at bay. Again, dilute a spoonful or two and in a big glass of water to make a drink and enjoy sipping it throughout the day.

The Cure for UTIs? It’s Not Cranberries

Misconception: Drinking buckets of cranberry juice can cure, and even prevent bladder, infections.

Actually: You may enjoy the taste (see: vodka) but it won’t cure and, probably, won’t prevent recurrence.

This purported remedy is centuries old and there is a considerable amount of research investigating it. While some studies suggest that cranberry may reduce repeated infections in younger women, it is certainly not a treatment for an active case. The gold standard for treatment is antibiotics. Sometimes doctors just recommend rest and ibuprofen.

“I was hoping it would work,” said Dr. Manisha Juthani-Mehta, an infectious disease specialist at the Yale School of Medicine, and the lead author of a study published Thursday in the journal JAMA, which showed no reduction in urinary tract infections for female nursing home patients who took standardized, high-dose cranberry capsules — the equivalent of 20 ounces of juice daily — for a year.

“I’m not sure it’s worth spending money on, particularly for patients on a fixed income, ” she said.

In a strongly worded editorial also in JAMA, Dr. Lindsay E. Nicolle, an expert on urinary tract infections, or UTIs, at the University of Manitoba, concluded that the evidence is “convincing that cranberry products should not be recommended as a medical intervention for the prevention of UTI.” She added that “clinicians should not be promoting cranberry use by suggesting that there is proven, or even possible, benefit.

She concluded, “It is time to move on from cranberries.”

By some estimates, at least 50 percent of women will have at least one urinary tract infection over a lifetime. In women of reproductive age, symptoms include a frequent need for urination and devastating pain while doing so. Older women, particularly those over 65 and frail enough to require nursing home care, can seem asymptomatic, but have fever, fatigue and malaise. Older men, too, may be susceptible, because of problems associated with enlarged prostates.

The risk factors in younger women include sexual activity and the use of spermicide. Dr. Kalpana Gupta, a professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and an expert on UTIs in women of reproductive age, explained that sex “promotes the movement of bacteria into the urethra.” Women, she added, “have a short urethra, compared to men, so once bacteria get there, they easily can go to the bladder.”

Spermicide, she said, can exacerbate the condition, because it can get rid of “good bacteria,” allowing the bacteria that cause UTIs to predominate.

Dr. Gupta, who is head of the Infectious Diseases Society of America’s guideline committee on treating UTIs, was emphatic in at least one regard: “UTI is not a hygiene-related issue,” she said, noting there was a stigma associated with it. “There’s no evidence that shows not wiping properly or wearing underwear that’s too tight leads to UTIs.”

Many doctors recommend that women prone to recurrences urinate after sex. “There may be some value to voiding after intercourse and the flushing could be protective,” said Dr. Gupta, “but it’s never been rigorously studied.”

There are several theories about why cranberries have come to be seen as having some effect on UTIs. It is certainly one power-packed little berry. Researchers at Rutgers found that cranberries contain proanthocyanidins, a condensed substance which seems to interfere with the adherence of UTI-causing E. coli bacteria to the lining of the urinary tract.

Dr. Gupta, who said she is not ready yet to walk away from cranberries, suggested that some women with recurrent UTIs may still want to discuss cranberry treatment with their doctors.

Certainly in drinking cranberry juice, patients are hydrating. “The juice has diuretic properties,” said Betsy Foxman, an epidemiologist at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, “and urinating more is part of the body’s way of getting rid of infection.”

In researching an alternative to antibiotics among nursing home patients, Dr. Juthani-Mehta found that Native Americans had been using cranberries as a remedy for UTIs as well as other ailments for thousands of years. They passed on the lore to the Pilgrims, she said.

Cranberry juice in its earliest, purest form was far more astringent than the version now sold commercially. One problem with some studies, say critics, has been compliance: “It’s hard to drink that much cranberry juice,” said Dr. Foxman. She has studied cranberries and UTI rates in college-age women (no reduction) as well as in a specialized group: post-gynecological surgery patients with urinary catheters, who had a 50 percent reduction rate.

Capsules are easier, but are not regulated, so dosing is inexact. Many researchers believe that if cranberry has some protective effect, the amount needed would be so great as to be impractical for a wholesale recommendation. Even so, the new JAMA study, which included a very high and standardized dose, showed no effect.

Postmenopausal women are particularly at risk for UTIs because of hormone depletion, which can leave the bladder more vulnerable to bacteria. Dr. Juthani-Mehta encourages postmenopausal women to stay hydrated and even to discuss with their physicians whether to use estrogen cream, which has shown some efficacy in reducing UTIs.

Dr. Gupta, who acknowledges the mixed research results, remains concerned about the use of antibiotics as a preventive treatment. “People want something that doesn’t lead to antibiotic resistance and empowers women to care for their UTIs,” she said. “We do need something better.”

5 Things to Avoid When You Have a UTI

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) must be treated promptly by your doctor.

Left untreated, a UTI can be painful and may spread. There are several things you should avoid while you have a UTI in order to prevent worsening of symptoms.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infections affecting older adults, especially women. If you have a UTI without complications, and you are otherwise in good health, your doctor might prescribe a shorter urinary tract infection treatment, such as a 3-day course of antibiotics. However, treatment type and length will depend on your medical profile and specific symptoms. Additionally, your physician may prescribe pain medication that relieves burning during urination, but pain is usually relieved shortly after beginning the antibiotic treatment. Below is some information to help you know what to do if you have a UTI infection in order to prevent exacerbating your UTI symptoms.

The following things can further irritate your bladder and increase the frequency of sensing an urgent need to urinate. Until your UTI has cleared up, you should:

1.

Avoid Foods and Beverages that Can Worsen UTI Symptoms

Avoid consuming foods and beverages that can irritate your bladder or worsen your symptoms, such as:

  • Caffeinated coffee
  • Caffeinated sodas
  • Alcohol
  • Spicy foods
  • Acidic fruits
  • Artificial sweeteners

2. Avoid Delay in Going to the Doctor When you Have a UTI

At the first sign of symptoms of a UTI, call your doctor. Attempting to treat a UTI yourself just allows the infection additional time to spread. Putting off getting medical attention for a UTI puts you at risk of serious health complications. Over-the-counter medications can mask pain, but do not kill the bacteria; antibiotics are necessary to eliminate a UTI infection.

3. Avoid Thinking You Can Quit the Prescribed Antibiotics Early

The particular antibiotic prescribed for your type of infection must be in your system for the full length of the period prescribed by your doctor in order to entirely eliminate the threat. Although you will probably start to feel better after just one or two days from the start of the antibiotic treatment, that does not indicate that the antibiotics have completely eliminated the infection.

Avoid Insufficient Water Intake

Depleting your body of water leads to dehydration. When the body is dehydrated, bacteria can grow in the bladder. Additionally, not drinking sufficient amounts of water can keep your medication from penetrating into your kidneys and bladder. Drinking abundant amounts of water flushes the kidneys and bladder, helps deliver the antibiotic to the urinary tract, prevents dehydration, and, additionally, reduces risk of developing kidney stones.

Avoid Delays in Urinating

Do not allow yourself to hold your urine because you think you are too busy to urinate. When you sense the urge to urinate and hold in the urine instead, you can put yourself at risk for major urinary tract issues. Retaining the urine also allows germs that are floating in your bladder to remain there. Emptying the bladder promptly flushes out bacteria.

When you have a urinary tract infection (UTI), finding relief from the pain and irritation you experience when urinating is often a top priority. Your doctor will likely clue you in on ways to prevent a UTI, but you should also ask about what you should avoid when you have a UTI.

Tip

If you have a UTI, you should avoid beverages like alcohol, soft drinks, citrus fruit juices and drinks containing caffeine.

What Is a UTI?

In simple terms, a urinary tract infection or UTI is a bacterial infection that affects your urinary system. This includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. UTIs are common in both men and women, with women experiencing more infections since their urethra is shorter than a man’s, according to the Office on Women’s Health.

You may also know a UTI as a bladder infection, since the two are often used interchangeably. Some of the more common symptoms to be aware of include:

  • Pain or burning when urinating
  • An urge to urinate often
  • Pressure in your lower abdomen
  • Urine that smells bad or looks cloudy
  • Blood in the urine

When a UTI goes untreated, you may also develop a fever. Don’t wait for these symptoms to go away on their own. If you’re experiencing one or more of these, call your doctor. They will be able to tell you if you need to come in to get tested for a UTI.

Beverages to Avoid With UTI

When you see your doctor about a potential UTI, they will first test your urine for bacteria. If the lab results come back positive for a UTI, a round of antibiotics are often the first line of defense. Additionally, your doctor will likely recommend several lifestyle modifications that may help ease the symptoms while the antibiotics are doing their work.

According to the Mayo Clinic, avoiding drinks that can irritate your bladder may help ease the pain from a UTI. Some of the top culprits include alcohol, coffee, soft drinks and citrus juices like grapefruit and orange juice. The acid in citrus drinks tends to irritate the bladder. You should also avoid anything with caffeine.

In addition to irritating your bladder, drinks such as coffee and alcohol can actually stimulate your bladder, causing you to make urgent and more frequent trips to the bathroom to get rid of the fluids you’re consuming.

Plus, beverages like alcohol can also increase your risk of dehydration, which complicates the symptoms of a UTI. Repeated bouts of dehydration may also trigger a UTI, according to the Mayo Clinic.

How to Avoid a UTI

Although a number of remedies exist to help you avoid a UTI, there is one that tops the list: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Getting adequate amounts of water helps dilute your urine, which leads to urinating more frequently. When you’re urinating throughout the day, you’re able to flush bacteria from the urinary tract. This helps prevent infection.

Harvard Health Publishing says both blueberries and cranberries may help prevent UTIs. Consuming enough of these fruits raw or via unsweetened juice can keep bacteria from sticking to the lining of the urinary tract. They also recommend probiotics in the form of supplements or fermented foods since they contain colonies of good bacteria.

For women, simple hygiene practices like wiping from front to back after a bowel movement and changing tampons and feminine pads often can help reduce the risk of developing a UTI, says the Cleveland Clinic. Also, both men and women can reduce their risk by urinating before and after sex and urinating frequently throughout the day.

Treating a UTI… debunking some myths

UTI advice what to believe and what to ignore

Suffering with the agony of a urinary infection or UTI you’ve probably been given some well-meaning advice from a friend or half remembered that article on cranberry juice you saw in a magazine months ago.

Google is full of ‘quick fixes’ for UTI you’d think it’d be simple to get over a urinary infection. But there are some big persistent myths out there about urinary tract infections or UTIs it can be really hard to find the right advice.

But these myths could well be stopping you getting better or stopping you get the right diagnosis to start with. So we’d like to debunk them.

You don’t need to see a doctor, it’ll go away if …

Get to your GP as soon as you can. Early diagnosis and treatment is key to getting better quickly.

Describe all your symptoms – write a list before you go in case you forget any. Take our factsheet for Medical Professionals with you.

Your doctor might do a dipstick test to look for an infection. But there’s a big problem with the tests used to diagnose UTI. They miss around 70% of infections. This Guardian article explains why.

So describing all your symptoms is key to getting the right diagnosis and the right treatment.

Cranberry juice will cure your UTI

Why won’t this one just go away? Drinking cranberry juice to cure a UTI doesn’t work. It’s not even debated by scientists and doctors. There’s no research to back up the claim.

In fact drinking lots of cranberry juice might well make you feel worse. There’s a lot of sugar in cranberry juice. Sugar feeds the bad bacteria in your bladder and your gut and makes them grow. Sugar is also a best friend to thrush, which you might get from too much bad bacteria, or because your immune system is weak from your infection or from taking antibiotics. Thrush and a UTI is not fun.

Flush out a UTI with lots of water

We’ve all heard this one. Drink lots and lots of water to ‘wash away’ the bacteria causing the infection. For starters you’ll end up peeing more, which you’re probably already doing and painfully so.

Your urine contains natural defense chemicals against infection, so drinking lots of water may dilute them and stop them working so well.

If you do need to see your GP and a urine sample is required to check your urine for infection, drinking too much water may make it too dilute for the tests to diagnose an infection.

If you’re taking antibiotics for your infection drinking lots of extra water may also dilute the antibiotic making it less effective.

And if you have an embedded infection (when an infection hasn’t gone away and the bacteria has entered the cells lining the bladder) then no amount of drinking water will flush away the bad bacteria. It’s sat nicely in cells where antibiotics can’t even touch them.

When you feel better stop taking antibiotics right away

Finish the course. Even if you start to feel better.

Too short a course of antibiotics can fail to clear a UTI properly, so your symptoms might well come back.

And if you finish your course of antibiotics and you still don’t feel better go back to your GP. You might need a longer course or different type to kill the infection once and for all. If not the infection could well hang around for weeks or months,  gradually get worse, and harder to cure.

We don’t want this to be a scare story but there are well over a million people in the UK alone who have chronic infections from UTIs that never cleared up.

But what about antibiotic resistance?

For UTIs new research suggests that longer courses of antibiotics not only work to cure infections but do not create antimicrobial resistance.

Getting the right treatment, at the right time is key.

Application “UTM at the terminal” – Instructions and useful articles

If you sell alcohol, the cash register must transmit information about sales to the unified state automated information system – EGAIS. To work with EGAIS, you need a special program – a universal transport module, or UTM.

Typically, UTM is installed on a computer or hub – a separate device that is connected to the cash register.

The application “UTM on the terminal” runs the program directly on the Evotor. So you save space on the counter and do not waste time setting up the program – Evotor will set it up by itself.

In this Article:

Install application

Install the UTM Plus application suite and from it the Alcohol and Legislative Updates applications. Without this, Evotor will not be able to sell alcohol.
How to install “UTM Plus”

Open “My Account” → “My purchases”. Find the UTM Plus kit below under the list of individual applications. Select the application “UTM on the terminal” and click “Install”.

Find the Evotor from which you will sell alcohol in the list and mark it with a tick. Click Apply.

If the UTM on the terminal application has already been installed on this Evotor, which is not from the UTM Plus package, the subscription to the old application must be deleted, otherwise, on the next write-off date, the Personal Account will write off money for two subscriptions.

Go to “Personal Account” → “Payment”. Find the UTM on Terminal application in the list of subscriptions. Click “Unsubscribe”.

Select the reason “Chose another application”. Click “Confirm”.

On Evotor, go to “Settings” → “EGAIS”. Include alcohol trading.

Done! The application is installed.

Unit UTM

Now you need to install on the Evotor UTM. If the smart terminal is connected to wi-fi, it will download the file itself. If you use mobile Internet, download the program to your computer and write it to a USB flash drive – this way you will save traffic.

  1. Download UTM (542 Mb).
  2. Rename the file to evotor-utm-install (the full filename will be evotor-utm-install.aef).
  3. Write to an empty USB flash drive.
  4. Insert the USB stick into the smart terminal. Evotor will install the program itself – it will take 10-15 minutes.

Done! UTM is installed.

Startup

To run UTM, you need a key with an electronic signature. Evotor works with Jakarta and Rutoken keys.

Insert the key into the terminal – the UTM will start itself.

Problem solving: Evotor does not recognize the crypto key
Problem solving: Evotor hangs at the stage “UTM launch”

The company details will appear on the screen – check them. The details must match those for which the key is registered.

Done! Now Evotor can exchange documents with EGAIS, and you can sell alcohol.

Setting the time for the sale of alcohol

To prevent sellers from selling alcohol at night, set a limit.

Go to your Personal Account → “My Applications”. Open the UTM on Terminal application.

Go to “Settings”.

Enter the sale time and click “Set time”.

Done! Now sellers will punch alcohol only at the time you specified.

Checking the status of UTM

To be sure that there will be no problems with the sale of alcohol, you can look at the UTM status. This can be done in Evotor’s personal account or on the terminal. The application shows the UTM version, key type, certificate expiration date and unsent documents. You can also receive UTM status updates by email.

Via personal account

Go to your Personal Account → “My Applications”. Open the UTM on Terminal application.

Go to “Settings”.

Here you will see the UTM status.

To subscribe to notifications, click “Configure Notifications” and enter the address.

At terminal

Go to the “Settings” → “EGAIS” menu.If the UTM is connected and working correctly, you will see a message on a green background:

If something is wrong, open “More about UTM”: the section displays unsent receipts and information about certificates.

According to some, it is also the best, even if its characteristic acidity does not please all palates. To offset this acidity, some decided to add sugar to it. Thus faro was born. Adding sugar syrup to lambic was a revelation at the time of Bruegel. (Some even argue that without faro, Bruegel would have been deprived of inspiration and would have remained an ordinary amateur painter whose canvases couldn’t even have been sold at a flea market.) Until the 19th century, faro was very prevalent in the Brussels region. Folklore there was frequently associated with it, and the divine liquid flowed like water. Then faro fell into oblivion. It was not until 1978 that our family brought it back to center stage. Or center Senne, as you prefer. Particularly appreciated after physical exertion, faro is not only easy to drink, it is a joy to do so. “,” Is_in_production “: 1,” beer_style_id “: 226,” beer_style “:” Lambic – Faro “,” rating_score “: 3.482, “rating_count”: 43871, “count”: 43871, “beer_active”: 1, “on_list”: false, “has_had”: false}, “brewery”: {“brewery_id”: 288, “brewery_name”: “Brouwerij Lindemans “,” brewery_slug “:” brouwerij-lindemans “,” brewery_page_url “:” \ / BreweryLindemans “,” brewery_label “:” https: \ / \ / untappd.akamaized.net \ / site \ / brewery_logos \ /brewery-288_5751c.jpeg “,” country_name “:” Belgium “,” contact “: {” twitter “:” LindemansBeers “,” facebook “:” http: \ / \ / www.facebook.com \ / Lindemansbrouwerij “,” url “:” http: \ / \ / www.lindemans.be “},” location “: {” brewery_city “:” Vlezenbeek “,” brewery_state “:” Vlaanderen “, “lat”: 50.8159, “lng”: 4.21219}, “brewery_active”: 1}, “user”: {“uid”: 5912361, “user_name”: “goushda”, “first_name”: “Georgy”, “last_name” : “V”, “user_avatar”: “https: \ / \ / untappd.akamaized.net \ / profile \ / 7865565476fa074e1121de7961fb040d_100x100.jpg “,” is_private “: 0},” venue “: {” venue_id “: 9157057,” venue_name “:” \ u0420 \ u0435 \ u0441 \ u0442 \ u043e \ u0440 \ u0430 \ u043d \ u0447 \ u0438 \ u043a \ ” \ u0423 \ u0442 \ u0438- \ u041f \ u0443 \ u0442 \ u0438 \ “”, “venue_slug”: “restoranchik-uti-puti”, “primary_category_key”: “Food”, “primary_category”: “Food”, “parent_category_id” : “4d4b7105d754a06374d81259”, “categories”: {“count”: 1, “items”: [{“category_key”: “russian_restaurant”, “category_name”: “Russian Restaurant”, “category_id”: “5293a7563cf9994f4e043a44”, “is_primary” : true}]}, “location”: {“venue_address”: “\ u0421 \ u043e \ u043a \ u043e \ u043b \ u044c \ u043d \ u0438 \ u0447 \ u0435 \ u0441 \ u043a \ u0438 \ u0439 \ u0412 \ u43b , 1 \ u0411 “,” venue_city “:” \ u041c \ u043e \ u0441 \ u043a \ u0432 \ u0430 “,” venue_state “:” \ u041c \ u043e \ u0441 \ u043a \ u0432 \ u0430 “,” venue_country “:” venue_country ” u0420 \ u043e \ u0441 \ u0441 \ u0438 \ u044f “,” lat “: 55.792099, “lng”: 37.6716537}, “contact”: {“twitter”: “”, “venue_url”: “http: \ / \ / cafe-uti-puti.ru”}, “foursquare”: {“foursquare_id” : “58272f277a4d7f479e7160a2”, “foursquare_url”: “http: \ / \ / 4sq.com \ / 2g5kuI9”}, “venue_icon”: {“sm”: “https: \ / \ / ss3.4sqi.net \ / img \ /categories_v2\/food\/russian_bg_64.png”,”md”:”https:\/\/ss3.4sqi.net\/img\/categories_v2\/food\/russian_bg_88.png”,”lg”:”https : \ / \ / ss3.4sqi.net \ / img \ / categories_v2 \ / food \ /russian_bg_512.png “},” is_verified “: false}}
